But it's not that it's getting nerfed. It's just the approach taken.
If there's one thing that DBD deserves to be commended for, it's the incredible complexity of its mechanics. DBD is comprised of a vast amount of component mechanics. From the big things like generators, hooks and exit switches to smaller components like survivors' breathing, footsteps and the red stain.
That's also what I want to highlight with CoH. Compared to its cousin perks like Desperate Measures and Botany Knowledge, CoH, as a boon, has way more cogs in its wheelhouse. Which is why it's disappointing to me that CoH is simply getting a heal speed nerf.
Addressing only the heal speed, I feel, is going to make this a herculean task that will probably be abandoned at some point. I suspect that CoH, with only heal speed adjustments, will continue to be either overpowered, or an unappealing pick next to its less complicated counterparts. With the competition it has, it's going to be difficult to find the right spot for it.
What I would suggest instead is looking at all the other cogs at play in CoH as a boon. There's a bless time, there's a radius restriction, there's the ability to replant or relocate it.
ALL of these could stand to be addressed as a means to find CoH its own spot. And not only would this give the developers more space to address CoH and finetune it with less direct competition from other healing perks, but it would also open up design space down the road for other boons.
What if, for example, CoH incurred a 90 second cooldown if it got snuffed? Or what if it reduced boon radius from 24 meters to 18 meters? What if it increased bless time from 14 seconds to 21? What if all of these parameter changes set a precedent for other boons, too? Work out a system where every boon's worst stat is considered when multiple boons are picked, to prevent complicated perk-stacking.
All of this would create space for the devs to come up with new ideas, possibly expanding options for boon effects, too.
Just slapping a -25% on the heal speed is comparatively uninspired and cheap, and doesn't do anything to expand on the possibilities of boons as a design element.
While I agree with what you are saying. You at least have to give them some credit. They are trying. Albeit not at the pace we want, and even with reworking dead hard they released the CoH nerf. Now you made some excellent points, but a step is a step. I'm not some "Praise BHVR" person but they at least listened to try to make a change.
I don't think the speed of healing was ever the issue either. More so it's infinite and has a HUGE A## radius while the killer has to waste time just stuffing it over and over if you want a hit and run play style. They are trying at the very least.

Compartmentalizing is an intellectual exercise. Very few people can do it, and even fewer can do it well (which is why police officers tend towards substance abuse and mental health issues). Repression is instinctive, and generally what most people who claim to be compartmentalizing are doing.
It's less about getting 'worked up' and more humans being a social species that relies on social cues to interact, and a very instinctive reaction when these cues are misused.
But okay, let me see if I can explain.
In competitive sports, it's expected for both teams to shake hands before and after the match, no matter how heated the rivalry. This is common across multiple cultures and basically all sports.
Why do you think that is?
Very few can do it? I beg to differ. It's a weak psyche if you cannot. True, it's something that is taught not typically born with being able to do.
Yes humans are social, but if everyone got so offended by what another person has said we would be dead. Either through mass suicides, worse wars then we have ever seen, etc.
Yes I understand the value in shaking hands or saying good game after a sporting match. Though it does not change someone on either team will resent you for how you played. You just. Don't. Let. It. Get. To. You. Simply put we can argue semantics all night. The point is, if you let what another person on a video games says about you. You need to evaluate your own psyche and emotions. Instead if getting mad or depressed over a video game, have a laugh. It's more fun that way.

Not really. It sounds like, if anything, you've probably gotten numb to it (which isn't uncommon, sadly). And that's not a good thing.
I'd probably respond by saying that if the only way you can get enjoyment is by trying to make sure others don't...you're the one at fault and probably need to do some introspection, as this behavior tends to grow out of a deep insecurity on your behalf.
Now, I'm not saying that this describes you, directly. But you are certainly being an apologist for this sort of behavior, which does get my noggin' joggin'.
'Caring what others say'...it's not that intellectualized. It's more just how human brains work (we can get into the actual psychobiological/neurochemical effects of bullying, if you'd like - and how depression works). It's not something people can really just turn off - and if you try to force it (as certain militaries do), you often end up with pretty serious mental health issues later on. Because all you're actually doing is repression.
Numb to it? No. It's a part of being in the real world. It isn't sunshine and rainbows. People will be S#####. That's just human nature. Whether it has to do with previous trauma, deep seeded issues. Idk. I'm no psychologist.
I dont trash talk anyone, I don't see the point. I just don't let it get to me. Regardless of how people choose to play. Guess what? If I really got that worked up over it can you guess what I can do? Press the power button, and bam. Problems gone. If they were to show up at your house and berate you? That's an entirely different issue. You can't go through life wanting people to cater to YOUR needs. That's not how it works. In a perfect world? Eh, maybe. But the world doesn't and will never world like that. You get over it. You can either laugh or cry about it. I choose to laugh.
Sure, people can have depression. But compartmentalizing and repressing are two very different things. "Turn off" is a broad term. Compartmentalizing Isn't repressing. It's putting your emotions aside at the moment to think about it later. Which is exactly what people should do if they are that worked up over what a keyboard warrior says.

Okay, do you think that it should be acceptable to yell racial slurs at the other team in sports?
How about just refusing to shake their hands after the game?
If not, then all you're doing is quibbling over price.
It's all good and well to say 'sticks and stones'...but people don't work like that. And as you get older, you come to realize that more. If anything, recognizing that language is the primary method by which we understand the world and thus has the power to both cause pain and impart happiness...that's something you learn as you get older.
I also know that I deal with enough frustrating parents and students every day to not want to deal with them in my hobbies too - and I see no benefit in being an apologist for people acting like butts in basically any context.
I'm not saying it's acceptable. I'm saying get over it. Who cares what some random online person has said? It's different in the context you use if it was a close friend or a loved one. Then, yes words can hurt allot. But you don't even know these people, so who gives a rip what they say?
I mean in my younger years I learned not to care what others said. Isn't that something you learn when you are older? Not to care what people say or think? If you let people get to you that much then either stop playing or grow a spine so to say.

Either play toxic and get toxicity from survivors or play as u are suppose to play and get bagged at the door
there is just no solution is there
Actually there is a solution, see ya in June, i got my auric cells for the next killer i might as well forget about this game for a while
Have "Fun" everyone
I mean. What else are you supposed to do? You kill to fast. "Tunneling" you do gens which the game is built around doing "Gen rushing". Literally no one is ever happy. If you get Gen rushed learn to play around it, what can you do for perk wise as killer to slow them down. Dead man's switch, eruption, corrupt intervention, and thrilling temors is a really good slow Gen build. Puts allot of pressure and minimizes allot of the gens you normally have to look. Give it a shot! Helps with a mobile killer too.

As someone who's been gaming since the days when having the high score at the local arcade was a big deal in terms of nerd cred - it's the 'generations of today' that make COD lobbies so unpleasant.
I also have never understood the idea of 'I get to be really unpleasant to other people in situations where they have zero recourse' is in any way a free speech defense. This is the stuff that people who want to suppress free speech tend to reach for as justification.
Uh. Also, it's just words. Have you ever heard of sticks and stones? If you got someone that mad, have a laugh. Getting so offended by what someone says does nothing. No trophy, no recourse. It's only you that are affected besides the person you pissed off.
So in older terms. Get over it? Being so sensitive to words from a person you don't even know should have no effect on your life. It's kind of part of being an adult. You grow up.

People say something is "toxic" when mostly it ain't toxic at all. Being toxic is when you are abusing someone (in an intentional manner to get them mad). And do not start to say that tbaging or flashlight clicking or hitting people on the hook is toxic cause it ain't at all. Toxic would be when someone messages you after the game verbally abusing you.
I had a survivor message me (I was her teamate) and I was running killer around whole game and got a flashlight save, eventully got hooked and when she took me off she was running away so I clicked my flashlight at her to tell her to heal me. She messaged me and said that that was toxic and the game dosnt need people like me. That was nothing close to toxicity.
Overall people get butthurt so much these days and it's over a video game💀💀.
We just need to understand that using any in game mechanics is not toxic.
I feel like the generation of today wouldn't last a second in COD MW2 lobbies. Those were toxic but is also why it made it so damn funny. That was free speech at its finest.

I will never understand the survivor entitlement in this game. I have all these people at the end of the game saying something like "wah wah I didn't have fun" when it's a PvP game.
How much do I ever care about the fun of the guy I'm shooting in an fps, or killing in a moba, or competing with in literally any other online game? The attitudes of this community are ludicrous. And somewhat funny since it does make it trivial to troll. DbD is the saltiest game hands down. A game like R6S people will be salty they lost but they won't be on the forums crying about getting shot lmfao
R6S is one of the most toxic community's too. Maybe a but less then For Honor. But yeah DbD is up there too.

It is overtuned.. I don't use it as a survivor main. I just...kinda feel bad for the killer. Even if it is a mechanic they out into the game. The Self-Care, Botany and empathy Claudette who sits in lockers all game shouldn't be consistently in our games. But she is. Literally without fail, it is every third game. We win two, it's fun. We play another and we get god awful teammates and a great Killer.
I'm okay with dying. Can still have a great game and die. I do not mind that. Nor do I mind DC(it's gonna happen) and I don't mind face camping or proxy camping. Killers have get to play the game how they want. Doesn't bother me. But if I am full health, especially with no hooks, I'll run and save a survivor from hook even if it means being done and hooked. Usually I can loop then for a bit, but sometimes I do deadzone myself. But I still try and no matter what I will body block if I am going in for a save with the killer close. I don't expect everyone to do the same. But don't unhook me at 2nd hook then dip away only to be farmed. Take the hit or just leave me I guess.

I was complaining about this yesterday. It's been since this new patch hit it seems a week or so ago? Was stable before. Now it's just seeming to crash multiple times in a day. Yesterday had one game, was fun. Next game was a crash, and got a 30 minute penalty. That was after waiting 48 hours hoping for the 15 min ban time to go back to just 5 minutes. But it didn't reset at all.
That was my gripe. I'm okay with crashing happening, it's just a part of games working out kinks. But we need to know when the reset occur or just completely reset it after 24 hours. If you are crashing(which counts as a DC) multiple times in a day. Okay. But at least you can wait it out without the fear of it just increasing due to wanting to play the game.
Edit:Seeming not seeminging

I'm just saying it's been steadily decreasing over the months and years. July 2021 was the highest its ever been. Which is great. But it's going back down. Maybe another peak will come, but Ina nuanced sort of way(I don't want to say definition.) it's dying out.

In July 2021 there were roughly 62k players online in a day. Up from the pervious month of June with a spike of 14k players. Awesome. But since then it has been decreasing over time. - What else do you expect? This is how it works. There's no magic 'patch wand'.
- Other competitive game? League of Legends' Leaverbuster system would probably have permabanned you by now.
- Why are you defending DCing? That is honestly a bit sus.
- It's not so much me wanting a 4k and more me wanting a good game. I've never had a good 3v1.
- Yes, it's absolutely ruining my experience, because this game is 4v1. 3v1, this game isn't fun.
- Again, you seem to want to have your cake and eat it. That's not how things work. You either need to stop DCing or accept that you are going to get timed out. If DbD truly is the only game that's having connection issues (and it's not you rage DCing) then it shouldn't be hard to isolate the problem. Go chat with tech support.
Well no kidding, which is why I said I would wait. Seemed kind of obvious as I didn't mention a magic patch wand. Didn't know those existed.
Maybe LoL sure, don't play it but 9ther competitive games the bans are not even close to that severe. And as I said. They have a reset that is known. That way if you do have issues. You know the amount you can wait without the penalty becoming worse.
I'm not defending it, clearly you read wrong. I just said I don't care about it because I don't. Typical that you just say"thats kind of sus you must rage quit"
Maybe you haven't had any good ones but I have had a few. I know generally it can make things harder but I don't see it "ruining" the experience. Just makes it harder.
Sure, I'll take my cake. And as I have said multiple times I'm not DC'ing. It's crashing. But I can tell you won't be convinced otherwise because this game runs perfectly and no one can ever have issues. They all just rage quit.

- Yes, I have. I reported a bug, bug was eventually fixed. Have you tried posting logs and asking for help in tech support? It's not like you have anything to lose by trying, and maybe someone could help.
- Yes, they are ridiculously light. You can deliberately DC multiple times in a day without much of a penalty other then 'let me go get another cup of coffee while I'm timed out'. Contrast this to other games, where you'll be put into a 'leaver' pool and have to win several games to get out of it, or can even have your account permanently banned.
- This may sound harsh, but if you can't play without DCing - you probably shouldn't play until the problem is fixed. It's not fair to the other players in these games to constantly have to 3v1. I hate it on killer, as it also denies me rank and BP for something outside of my control.
- If it's just DBD, chances are that it's either your VPN, your firewall or some problem point in your ISP's routing. Posting logs in tech support could help you to at the very least isolate the issue.
- Now, I'm not trying to be mean but - if it's 'just a game', then why are you so upset? Personally, as someone that has limited time for his hobbies, I consider it quite a big deal when I can't enjoy my hobby because someone is attempting to play the game on a Thinkpad from the Arctic circle.
- It's not just about rank. When I play, I want a good, close, thrilling game. A 3v1 is basically unwinnable for the survivors unless skill levels are grossly mismatched. These games aren't fun.
Yes, dealing with their tech team does nothing as far as crashing until a possible new patch comes out and hopefully they fixed it.
Deliberately DC multiple times in a day? What? My game has been crashing twice normally in a day since this new patch, and IF it reset. I'd be okay. Wait 24 hours and if you DC again you go back down to 5 min, then 5 min for the second, 15 3rd, 4th 15, then 30, 30 5th, an hour etc. I could deal with that. That's WAY to many DC's for one day. I agree. But, I had in the period of two days, 4 crashes AKA DC's. So I waited 48 hours. What's "maybe speculated" is 24 hours for one let's say 'blemish'. I got the second 15 min and waited two days. Played one game, got a crash after and a 30 min ban. It's only increasing with no reset.
No other and if you have else to prove NO other even actual competitive game has bans like that. That increase with no time reset since DBD doesn't tell anyone how it works.
Again, how is it not fair? It's a game. So what if people DC? Let them be salty. Does it matter that much if someone does? I get you want a 4k as a killer but more often even if someone DC's typically your not in the group that is gonna 4k every game anyway. So more for you.
The thing is I'm not upset per say. But I'm annoyed over the fact I have out money into this game. Of my own volition, but I should still be able to play even due to their poor design. And if you think it is ruining your experience when someone has bad internet? Welcome to online gaming circa CSGO to now.
And again, a 3v1 puts allot of pressure. But it challenges them. If I see a DC, I will try to hold aggro and loop while others do gens. Not that I'm probzz by any means, but it gives me experience
-
I'd say this man. The game will get you frustrated but don't let's others ruin it for you. I've my own beefs with this game, and probably will quit. But all games have their quirks. If survivors being toxic is a factor, you ever played MW2 back in the day? Probably not if you let people get to you like this.
If they are toxic, move on. Next match. I really don't know why killers get so upset over that, on the rare occasion I play killer I find it rather hilarious. Don't take the gane so seriously. It's just a game, and it doesn't effect your life outside of it. If it does, you need to rethink some priority of your life you are taking to heart. What people do and say especially in a game should have no affect(? I can never remember the difference between the two haha) on the life you live outside of them.
The game is busted, But if you are able, enjoy it for what it is, when they SWF or be toxic just laugh because you did enough to make them that upset you got under their skin. Especially in they T-bag at pallets or loops. Often if they pull a window tech, and I've gotten bamboozled, it's super funny especially if they T-bag, rapid click and run away.
Your rank as far as pips doesn't mean anything towards skill level. Enjoy the game for what it is(if you can stay in one with crashing) and learn to combat them better :)

It's unfortunate, but this sounds like a problem on your end.
I'd suggest posting logs to tech support and seeing if someone can help you.
The penalties in this game for DCing are, if anything, ridiculously soft. But they have to exist, because when they don't every game is spoiled by a DCer.
Okay for one. Have you ever dealt with their tech team? Does nothing. And they are "ridiculously" light? You serious? R6S ngl I've rage quit comp games. I do get punished with rank and time. It is a rare occasion but I've been known to lose my temper. Their punishment is well known and gets reset. Yes it can happen again after some time. But more often it's enough time I learned my lesson and have calmed down and went in with a clear head. But my internet had for the most part never failed me. When it has. I can reconnect. Albeit again, lose the game sometimes. Oh well. Here, you get a few DC you are punished again and again. No it's not my internet or my hardware as again I have said ZERO other game has this issue. I've tested multiple multi-player games. It's only DBD. So how is my issue? And even if it was. I paid for this game. People act like this is their life. It's a game. So what if others DC? I don't like it but I stay in the game and make the best of it. If it's their pips? I've still pipped due to double DC's. So how does it ruin it? Because you don't escape but got up in a rank that doesn't even matter? Your MMR is invisible anyways. So why or how can it ruin it for everyone else? Use it as an experiment to loop, or hide and rush gens, how to best combat how a killer works, etc.

You try using a vpn to connect to a different server?
But again, I could deal with it. Losing pips? Oh well. Guess I have to earn them back. Sucks but such is the way. But the match making bans increasing due to their poor coding and design? That's not what I paid for. I payed to play a game not get banned because they are incompetent.

I've tried it all but usually it comes down to the killers ping. But even still some lag should come back. Other Triple A games can have severe lag in a "competitive" setting and come back. This is just a straight freeze

Then it is their internet, and they should contact their isp to see what is going on. I am not shy to bash on bhvr for doing things wrong, and the servers are... iffy gameplay wise. But they are not the reason op is being kicked from the game.
DBD is the reason for it since the new update. I had no issues last week before it hit. Which is my point. All other games work fine. As DBD did, but now it crashes and it counts as a DC. Which again, would be whatever. Sure sucks for teammates but things happen. Why would I DC, healing a teammate? With no hooks, or unhooked a survivor with another in chase halfway across the map? It's not my internet as you all like to presume usually. My internet works beautifully with most other games. As I said even DayZ works more reliably then this. And that's saying something. But I could deal with worse it's getting progressively punished by a dev team that doesn't even tell you how to matching making bans work. It's a #### design team. WE as the players should know how the vans work since their servers are trash. Why do they keep it a secret? Literally no one knows for sure how their matching bans go down besides them. If they have terrible servers, we should know in case of bugs to avoid literal 3 day bans and get anither DC it's another 3 day ban.

How is it my internet with no other game has an issue of crashing except this one? Tested many other games. Zero issues. It's DBD. Period.

Crashes are near to non-existent these days. It has been really bad in the past. I reinstalled the game after I got kicked out of the game 3 times in a row and got a matchmaking ban of 1000 years (?). It worked, no more crashes. IDK if the servers are the problem. It could also be micro-cuts in your internet.
Could be. Sure, i'll give you that but even as a R6S player you can reconnect, albiet, you may lose that game. But even as a top company they have reasonable ban times for DC. They happen and its hard to tell the difference but this is a casual game. Why their bans can last for 3 days. And longer if something happens is mind boggling . I got up to 15m ban 2 days ago. Figured " Alright server issues, ill take a break. Gave them 48 hours since the so amazing company doest even say how it works." Got one game, a crash after then a 30 min ban. Youre punished for trying to play and they wonder why this game is dying.

Presteiging resets you for a small cosmetic. Nobody wants to do it. So why have it in the game? It makes sense to reward players for getting to thay point instead of taking all that progress away for a small cosmetic. I want the bloody cosmetics but It makes no sense why I have to lose all my stuff for it .
Then if you want the bloody costumes then prestige the character. Losing all your stuff I don't think is bad at all. I almost find it fun to be running without perks and any gear again. Just consider it a challenge.
