There's quite a few hilariously hypocritical mixes of opinion out there when it comes to deranking. People excusing "their side" for doing it because they "don't want sweaty lobbies" or "don't want to go against so many nurses and spirits", while demonizing whoever playing the other side as bullies that want to play omegablink + mori against rank 19s or military grade SWF death squads wanting to bully fresh installs.
It's bad no matter who does it, and even worse when people delude themselves into believing it's okay when they do it, but not when their opponents do it.
EDIT: Not accusing you of thinking like this in any way, just agreeing. All sorts of people do it, and some people don't even have the balls to just own the fact they do it and need to make up flimsy justifications for it.
Not excusing any deranking at all btw. I get not liking certain ranks. I don't enjoy the red ranks due to all the sweat and toxicity. I usually stop playing for the month at rank 5 or 4. But deranking just to own low levels is pathetic.

Sounds like deranking to me.
This.
Lots of deranking out there right now. Played survivor with my wife last night. Rank 5 killer with Billy. All he did was race around the map, never even kicked a gen. He DCd as we ran out. Had 2 killers act similar to this. They were clearly not putting effort forth. One sat afk in the corner of the basement with Wraith. I saw him there when getting the chest for my daily.

your theory is incorrect because survivors egos are through the roof for things like beating a low tier killer
And I've seen killers who intentionally derank to destroy low tier survivors. Again, that power role to the extreme. Nothing like an expert Billy or Nurse destroying a bunch of rank 18s while rank 18 themselves with full t3 perks. Most even admit it.

ye just it has 0 sense hurt survivors can sprint like nothing happens :( killers are suppose 2 be super natural creatures , at the moment survivors seem also like super natural humans ,
i mean how can u run when u had a hook in ur stomach x.x
We can't start talking about what makes sense. How does skinny Legion hoist Jeff up with one arm? Pig? How does a man with a S-shaped spine run super fast with a chainsaw? None of them are supernatural. Why can't David King, a street fighter, beat the tar out of angsty Legion? Heck, Tapp could too.
Makes sense does not cut it. Penalizing injured survivors does not either. We tried to warn them that this nerf would push this mentality, but noooooo, nerf healing! Then WHAAAA! THey are not healing! rofl

i think more egotistical players just tend to pick survivor
Nowhere near my experience. Insecure players tend to play SWF and derank. Egotistical players flock more to killer mode for that power role. It is basic psychology, and nobody cares. Some play both, some flock to one or the other. Either way, toxic pizzants are going to be toxic pizzants no matter what.
-
More and more people are DC'ing with Freddy since the Oblivious change. I've noticed it as well. Ran him 4 times yesterday and got 5 DC's. Was running DH and was moving away from hook fast to get tokens, so no camping/tunneling. It is what it is. Legion got that treatment before.
Ran Trapper and Doc for around 8 matches with zero DCs.

Quote from patch notes "The Demogorgon's Shred special ability now breaks pallets by default. Because of this change, we have re-worked the Red Moss add-on."
I find this very upsetting not because of this change, but because Legion has the same ultra rare add-on that let's them break pallets except they're vaulting. Legion should also be able to break pallets by default with his special ability (Frenzy) giving their current state. It just seems unfair they didn't make this change for Legion as well and they totally should.
Demogorgon is a creature from another plane with supernatural abilities and significant mass. Legion is an angsty team of teenagers (young adults) weighing maybe 140 and likely a vegan. I don't buy them breaking a pallet in the same manner.
Heck, I think Legion should have to kick the pallet 3 to 4 times while screaming "not fair" to break a pallet.
-
Avoiding survivor play as much as possible. The campers and moris will be out in full force. Saved up lots of padded traps and bags for farming. Will likely play sparingly with Trapper, Doc and Freddy to farm a few mil BP and wait for it to end.

What could be done is we could have two lobbies where killers match with randoms and another with swf but the swf wouldn't match with any killers because none would want to play, okokok a few pro killers out there might but you get what im saying
And then those SWF members would lobby dodge until they got into the same "solo" lobby. Longer waits for the same results.

Wow, talk about salt. You should check your blood pressure bro. Too much salt is bad.
Back to the topic at hand, I'd rather see dailies a bit more customized to your play choices. I get wanting to encourage expanding player's experience, but when the majority of the dailies don't match the player's pattern, that is something else altogether.
-
@ElusivePukka said:
You being salty that you've chosen predictable play over developing new skills in the game isn't actually a reason the dailies are bad.
Salty? Over not wanting to play certain killers due to their play style? Did you not read the part where I said I play them just fine? I've used them plenty in KYF in order to help others get used to playing them (New players). I don't like their play style, and don't want to be forced into playing them. No salt to it. Read slower perhaps?
-
@Peanits What was said here is hitting the mark for me. This game has a pretty toxic player base that likes to feed on new players. That makes it hard enough to get new players as it is. But for the Devs to let this problem last for as long as it has, and then do a free weekend that pits new players against vets is horrible for the health of this game.
I want new players to come into the game. I don't want them getting destroyed by vets and not buying the game. All weekend long I'd get rank 18-20 players in my matches. Sometimes, I could tell. I'd take the foot off the peddle and let them get some experience in playing. If they did well, I'd even let them escape (making good decisions). But at other times, I did not notice in time and squashed them.
The Devs need to get their priorities straight on this. This weekend could have been much more successful in pulling in new players that stay if they had fixed this before releasing the DLC.

It's allowed and bad or newer players will get the greatest use out of it.
Can't knock a new player for using it, probably one of the few perks they have that's actually worth a damn.
Bad players are just that. Whether they are practicing or not. Or just can't get better.
Good players see little to no use of it, simply because they get everyone before the gates are powered, or there is only 1 or maybe 2 left by the time the gates open, it it's almost irrelevant. Plus better killers usually means better survivors, they will get ridda totems.
TBF, only bad and new survivors complain about NOed being OP cause why do totems, where as only bad and new killers use NOed because of lack of skill.
At any rate, it's a perk, people can use it if they want to or not.
Also The Doctor recommends the totem cleansing treatment, has a 100% success rate of a NOedless game if all 5 are done. Nurse approves.
I would highly encourage new players to NOT use NOED as it really hinders learning the killer role. I started off using it and it became my crutch. I had another killer give me some good advice. He told me to take my licking as a killer and learn from my mistakes. Stop leaning on NOED. They were absolutely right. I got my butt handed to me, but got better every match.
That said, NOED is a key part of multiple end-game builds and I don't mind using it for them.

The point I'm getting at is perks should be used in favor of a play style you enjoy. Not as a means of countering a metas. There are only 4 slots to fill and way more counters needed. Plus nurse is getting a rework, axe the perk and make a dumbed down version a base mechanic that only affects the injured survivor.
It's just what I want and I'm aware it's not a popular opinion.
The metas are created by perks. The nerf to healing and healing perks created the no-heal meta. Perks also counter them. It is called tools. If you start hindering injured survivors, nobody will play survivor and we will go back to 1 hour lobby times as killers. Just stop complaining and use the tools that counter the thing you hate.
Personally, I like that they don't heal. It plays directly into my game. It is like running most of the match with NOED. I wish I was not colorblind, I'd love to see the blood pools of all those injured survivors.

1. I'd then have to play nurse to make it teachable, then unlock it in the web with my preferred killer. Then I'm running a perk to induce (what I feel) should be a base mechanic.
2. As @DudeDelicious summed up quite well, that "risk" of being downed, which is the only real threat a survivor faces, can be easily reduced.
3. I'd be happy if they just moved slower while injured, and maybe got more of a boost after the initial hit to give them a good chance to lose the killer. Then there would be some actual risk to playing injured. Cause anyone who does now, has come prepared to do so and mitigates majority of the risk.
Ummm....yeah, you'd have to unlock it, but you don't to play her. My Nurse is level 1 and I have Thanataphobia. We all have to do that, it is call your toolbox. If you don't want to invest in making it better, don't complain about it later.

And the only (!) rule in the killer's rulebook is to:
#1 Do not give a f* about the survivor's rulebook.
You clearly don't read these forums much if you think that is true. Killers whine more than anyone. Well, let me clarify. Not all killers do, considering I'd be looped into the killer group, but not the whiner one. Killers are the biggest vocal group on this forum and they constantly complain about:
SWF, Gen Rush, Adrenaline, Non-Healing Meta, Healing is too fast (#########?!), Borrowed Time (how dare anyone rescue in front of me when I'm camping!), Dead Hard, DS (how dare they stab me when I tunneled them!), SWF (again, just cuz....yeah), Keys (I just closed that thing!), nobody cleanses sickness, Sprint Burst (seriously?!), loops, loops (see what I did there?), and many more.
Both sides whine and have a rule book. Admit it, and move on.
-
Tuesdays after 11 AM but before 5PM. Wednesday's after 1PM but before 5:45PM. Sundays all Day.
For the record, DS, Adrenaline and BT are only clear for use Friday's from 9AM until 11AM. Mondays between 2PM and 4:45PM.
Everyone clear now? Can we get this pinned?

Pretty sure the idea is exactly to get you to play a different killer.
I know, but it is not helping. I may run that killer for the one daily, but I'm miserable the whole time and not putting a BP into it. I don't know why I don't like those killers. I play them just fine, I just don't enjoy their play style. NO amount of dailies will change that.
-
I don't think it will be Pennywise. I think it will likely be from either the Shining (sequel coming out) or from the Salem Witch book by Steven King (which also has a movie coming out).
-
Bad idea.
1. Thanataphobia does this for you.
2. Survivors are at risk when playing injured
3. Dead Hard is easy to bait and DS is a joke unless you tunnel. Even then, slug to avoid.
4. If you did this, the survivor population would drop significantly.
5. If you implemented this, you need to reverse healing nerfs to balance it out.
6. I like the no heal meta as it makes the survivors easier to pressure and down.

Don't get caught or don't get found . plus it only activates its full potential at the end.
We could throw away each time a gen is complete if you'd like

Why not just have all windows be blocked off once all genes are completed.
Now that sounds dangerous
Why not just have all the survivors go into dying state? Seriously, all windows blocked? That is insanely powerful. The perk is fine as is. I have used it to success already.

Nope it is intended to balance DH at higher ranks. That's why we only have 2-3 reliable killers higher ups(red ranks).
They are all killers that counter certain perks or actions the survivor do.
Hag, can break loop and jukes.
Myers, can bypass DH and MoM(although it's a bad example).
Doctor, completly destroy immersove perks like UE.
Completely wrong here. None of these killers are designed to specifically counter a perk with their base power. Can some of their abilities do so? Sure. How does the chainsaw counter DH when No Mither is being run? The two perks are on the same base survivor for a reason. Always injured and always ready. If anything, David's base perks were designed to counter the use of insta-down. And yes, I see killers chainsaw injured survivors all the time, thus DH comes into play. This gets chalked up to situational avoidance, but the perk is still useful.
Hag counters no perk with her base powers.
Meyers does not counter either. His exposed status can insta-down, but he likely has many injured opponents around the field capable of using DH to avoid it. He also is likely to score more M1 hits than exposed hits throughout the game, thus not nullifying MoM, but situationally capable of avoiding it. Still not a complete counter.
Doctor does not completely destroy UE. He makes it more difficult, sure. But good stealth players still make it work. I've been able to use UE plenty of times to avoid Doc long enough to put enough distance between us that he goes for another target or wastes a ton of time looking for me. Add Calm Spirit in and you are seriously hindering Doc's tracking ability unless he is looking in your direction. Again, does not fully counter the perk, but makes it less effective.
On the other hand, the new changes completely shut down several perks, much like EGC completely shut down Lone Survivor/Sole Survivor.....whatever that perk that nobody ran was.
I love that stealth killers got a buff, but not at the expense of killer and survivor perks, and not one that promotes a frustrating gameplay tactic like tunneling off the hook.
-
Bad change. More DCs will occur on Freddy now.
-
I've noticed several people running it lately, and I started wounding and letting them run off if I heard a gen running during the chase. It worked better than using Ruin. So then I ran TotH, just to see if there was a correlation and sure enough. Hit, chase, if I don't down them by the time I hear a gen, peel off and hit. Shortly after, watch a totem disappear and someone get healed. Means I have two off the gens. One looking for a totem and healing, the other being chase. Not bad.
Won't work that way as you rank up though.
-
I have not seen any DC's yet with him. Not wild about the change though. As a survivor, it seems a bit frustrating. What was wrong with Fred as he was a week or so ago?

Gl playing with 3 perks then
Like playing with ruin is not the same? Seriously, at least this one has the chance of continuously working throughout the match. Nice try though.
-
This perk is useful for slowing down those who try to tap the gen mid chase. I'll load it up if I see a 3-4 man swf and give it a try.
-
I agree with OP in that I try not to destroy new players. I don't give them a full pass, but I might let them "lose" me if they make a good move. Then again, you could be the new player that just threw a pallet and started tea bagging that then got dropped and morid because you did not know about Devour Hope.
Unfortunately, I know a lot of people ha e their accounts locked up tight for a reason, and it has nothing to do with DbD. I keep all my online accounts locked down for a much better reason than DbD.
-
At some point we have to just admit that OP is horrible at killer and refuses to get better with the tools at his disposal. Sorry, but every excuse he's thrown out there about this is just that, an excuse.
I hate running Legion, but did so last night at rank 6. Ran 8 matches. 4 with no perks, 4 with only Thanata and SB. No addons. Had a 2k in the first match due to key escape, but a 3k in the next two and 4k in the last no perk match where only 2 gens were done. That was a brutally long match as I was focused on the center and killer shack area of azer. There were only 2 gens on the other side, so I refused to roll over there. They kept running out there, but I'd go back and kick gens. 20 long minutes, but great BP.
With 2 perks, it was a 2k in the first match, but lots of hooks and still pip. Fun match vs a good SWF with 3 rank 2s on Lerys. 4k in last 2 matches.
Map pressure is a choice. You play for the hook and you get burned. Play for the gen and you will get the hooks.
I will caveat this by saying I got lucky with a few maps due to getting Groaning Storehouse 3 times and Azerovs. I'm comfortable on these maps as I cut them in half and hold the fort down. I also gave the hatch twice because I felt those two instances were good survivors saddled with boosted team members.
2nd edit- Forgot to mention that I switched to Trapper after that. Felt great, like putting on your favorite shirt. Got absolutely destroyed in the next 4 matches. 3 deaths only. Mostly my fault as my head was not in the game. Switched to Lady Hag, had a good match, quit while I was ahead.
-
7 4 stacks tonight. 4 of them were 4ks, 1 3k, 1 2k, and one I got owned in, but was oddly fun. SWF is what it is. Most are not very good.
-
I honestly think BHVR's biggest problem is the lack of structured analytical techniques in their development process. They look at it all from a developers stand point, but they don't really check some of their potential design flaws before putting them into practice. For instance, Mettle of Man comes to mind. It was either a very evil plan to lure survivors into buying a product they knew needed to be changed, or they could not see the problems with the original design of the perk. Either way, that is a problem. As soon as the perks went public, many players saw the potential problem and abuse of that perk. It unfolded exactly like the majority of the player critics said it would.
There are several examples of this in the past. It is clear they have the talent and creativity, I just think their refining process is severely lacking. They need someone that plays devil's advocate in order to identify these pitfalls for them.

A couple of reasons this game keeps me playing.
1. I love the slasher/horror genre of games and DbD puts you in both the driver and passenger seat. I enjoy being the predator looking for his prey and having the cat and mouse game of it all. I enjoy the jump scare, or the rush of activity when the killer finds you. I even love the anticipation of finding out what map or killer there is.
2. Though the toxic players and play styles tend to greatly mitigate the enjoyment of the game, there is nothing like getting those rare groups of survivors or killer that makes it fun. Like the hag that missed me 3 times, hitting a tree instead. She stops and hits the tree on purpose, so I point to the rock and she hits it. I point to another tree and she hits it. I point to a third and she shakes her head no. Then downs me and moris me. After game chat she says that now we are forever joined "my love". I laughed so hard through the whole thing.
Or the survivor I approach while they are digging in a chest and they turn around and offer their new prize to me as a bartering gift. I turn around and count to 3. If they took it back, they die, if not, I look for a new target. Awww, they left that key there for me.
Again, the unexpected fun of those who are enjoying the game as much as I am.
-
BP is one of the main reasons I play killer. Much better BP rewards. BBQ is a must just for the BP. I honestly don't think about the aura site 90% of the time. I play Trapper, so not like I'm crossing the map quickly to get someone.
-
@JawsIsTheNextKiller this has been my concern for a while. Whether its smurf accounts, or deranking, there is an absolute disregard for the health of the game. Getting and keeping new players is very difficult when these things are nearly common. That is how you kill a game off long term. Especially a game with such a niche market.
I keep trying to get my wife interested in playing killer, but within 2 matches she will get a team of red ranks grouped with a rank 19. They taunt the hell out of her the whole time and get toxic in chat. I don't blame her for looking at me and saying no thank you. And she's a gamer. Plays several mmo's (pvp), fps, and other games.

I feel you man. Matt Walker strikes again. These maps are so god awful and they just keep getting worse. Definitely the biggest problem next to gen times.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/696398#Comment_696398
Ok, but Legion doesn't have traps so this doesn't help me. I know how to play killer, this was an unwinnable situation. Maybe as another killer, perhaps, but I highly doubt it. Also 3 gens popping for set-up shouldn't be normal. That's kinda ridiculous, but yea, Trapper arguably has some of the best snowball in the game if your traps are popping off right.
It is not about the traps. I do the same thing with Pig, Doc, Hag, Shape. You look at the gen layout as soon as you enter. Ignore the outliers at first and patrol the clusters closest together. Pick you area of the map and defend it. If the survivors are popping hens, they will likely pop the ones not in your chosen area, as long as you are pressuring it, and find themselves having to work a taller field where you can influence the tempo better.
Legion is better at this than Trapper. You can see where people are when you apply DW. If they are on a gen close enough, push them off. Don't just tunnel down the first one you see.
I only run Legion for dailies, so I'm not as good with him as I am with others, yet 4k with 3 gens left is the norm when I do run him. (Purple and red)

The problem is the gens were on opposite sides, plenty of pallets, and they were hyper focused on gens. The time it took me to chase/down I'd already lost my 4th gen. If I had a 3 gen scenario maybe, but there was no winning this match. If I kept ping-ponging back and forth between the gens they'd have just popped them, popped adren, and got out anyway. 1 chase 3 gens shouldn't be a normal occurence.
No, it won't. I main Trapper. 1-3 gens done before the first hook is the norm. I set the field with my traps and chase anything near a gen off while doing it. After , the snowball starts. Usually there are bo more gens done as my map pressure skyrocketed. I have half the gens trapped with 3 to 4 gens to guard. I pip easily and 4k more than 3k.
It is about picking your battleground. Don't try to pressure the entire map if you don't have the means. Pick your spots.
-
Easy fix. Let us see the ranks before the game starts.
-
I'll say this, if you lose EGC as Demo, you need to stop playing killer. Portal at each exit, activated and wait. Perhaps increasing the range the portals can be placed by the gates would make a bit sporting? I know I've yet to lose an EGC. It's too easy.
I don't like closing the portal when survivors are trying to destroy it though. Defeats the purpose of Killer Instinct.
@DudeDelicious Not really. Most matches you'll see 1-3 portals destroyed. I have only intentionally held back my portals in one match. Never had a shortage.
-
NO love for the Trapper. Not sure I'd put Hag on par with Billy. Hag's map pressure can get good over time with bad survivors, but Billy's map pressure is insane from the start.

Are you saying I did everything the guy as killer did? You would not know that. I did mind game sometimes (trying to fake movements on 1 survivor while not trying to protect the gens and possibly wasting time) I rarely missed, and I do not swing at every pallet.
I have no idea what you did. What I can say, as someone who mains and plays mostly M1 killers, is you are not pressuring the map very well if you had 6 matches in a row getting owned. You have to be willing to drop chases to pressure gens. Not sure what you are doing, but you are doing something wrong.
-
So, I just played a survivor game with my wife. She is legally blind, and has bad carpal tunnel in her right hand. In short, she is a potato in this game. She ran the killer (and she sucks at looping!!) for 4 gens. Needless to say, this guy got owned and cried about how powerful survivors were. He was horrible as a killer. Keep in mind, my wife runs nearly straight, does not mind game well, and throws every pallet she goes through. She is rank 17.
When you don't pressure the map, you get owned. That simple.
EDIT: For the record, this guy made every bad decision you can make as a killer. He did not try to mind game. He kept missing. Tried to swing at every pallet.
-
Anyone seen my Hooeey card? I wanted to throw it down on this one, but I can't seem to find it.
-
No pressure. I just had a 4 minute game too. The survivors were hitting my traps faster than I could gather them. 4k in 4m.
-
@thatguyinktown Agreed.
