Because it's not uncommon for the last remaining totem spot to be either extremely hidden in some random dark corner or near the killer. Unless you know or will know all the totem spots it is usually more detrimental to cleanse totems early.

Thats how totem spots should work. Not next to a gen, not in the open, not in a hill but very well hidden. If all totems were very well hidden you would see more diversity with hex perks but spawn locations are so bad. But you're acting like cleansing 1 totem takes up a whole gen to do. If you are exclusively the totem hunter then maybe yes but 1 gen at most. But this is why you're a 4v1 your team mates should help you out. Don't blame the killer blame the team mates.

I swear, the people saying "do bones" sound like they're never played solo queue nor thought critically about that strategy. First thing's first, you should never have to bring a perk to counter the possibility of another perk; that's bad game design. Next, it stands to reason that without coordination, the easiest to find totem spots will be cleansed first, and if you miss one, not only did you waste time doing bones that could have been spent on gens, you now guarantee that NOED is now on the hardest to find totem, again, assuming they even have it in the first place.

Clearly the more efficient strat is to memorize the locations of any dull totems you come across but don't cleanse them, then check those totems after the last gen is done if the killer reveals that they have noed. No time wasted, no self sabotage.

If the perk is there its meant to be used the whole "you shouldn't bring a totem finding perk" is just imo a lazy person's excuse. If noed in your rank is a big problem bring it. Step up to the plate and cleanse totems or wait till the end of the match to find them. Problem is though if you wait at the end and get hit with noed then what was the point of remembering the spot? When you could've cleansed it right then and there but like I said its a risk that you can choose to take.

    It's not.

Let's say in this fairly realistic hypothetical scenario:

Bubba immediately finds, downs, and facecamps a survivor to death about 1 min into the game. In those 120 seconds it would take for Claudette to die as well as the additional 60 seconds from before, an average of 3-4 gens would be completed. Cool, almost all the gens are done. Bubba doesn't catch anyone after, then the final gen gets done. That survivor Bubba couldn't catch? NOED helped him out with a little speed boost and instadown. Bubba facecamps that survivor to death. The others can't do anything about it.

Is NOED fine in this instance?

Even assuming that survivors were looking for the totems while the first survivor was being camped, that would mean less gens would get done, giving Bubba more time to kill. This is assuming that the survivors even find the totem in the first place. On maps like Grim Pantry where the totems can spawn in some random corner away from everything else hidden in grass, are survivors expected to reliably cleanse those totems in a timely manner on that big map?

The problem with NOED is that it requires absolutely no input from the killer in order to activate such a game-changing effect. With Ruin, pressuring survivors encourages them to leave gens. Devour and Lullaby require hooks to increase their power. Crowd Control and Blood Favor require the killer to give chase for their effects to activate. Even Plaything requires a survivor to get hooked. Haunted is pretty much the only exception to this and coordinated survivors or weary solo queue players can figure out what it is, plus, it only lasts a minute.

With NOED, the survivors don't know it's in play until its effect is applied.

Solo queue players can't coordinate totem placements, especially on indoor maps or maps or very large ones.

It's effect is overly powerful for how little it requires from the killer.

If a Wraith can just run Bitter Murmur, No Way Out, and NOED and sit in the corner the entire game until the gens are done, then just go around and one-shot slug the team to death, NOED may be a problem.

Bubba is a bad example imo only because he's one of the best face campers in the game. So even if they didn't have noed it would be hard to rescue against a face camping bubba. Only when and if you destroy the totem you could try to over heat his chainsaw but thats about it. Totems are a second objective small but still need to be done. There's no excuse why you can't use perks to counter totems you have a wonderful perk called counter force that excels at this. You should not be the only one doing totems if your team isn't doing them but only solely focusing gens and won't bother cleansing that's the risk they take. The thing with noed that people seem to forget is that the killer is running 3 perks the entire match. And it can be destroyed before or after it activates. Not every killer perk needs to be "earned". Most survivor perks aren't earned like BT, IW or UB.

No way out requires hooks to make it work. If wraith sits in a corner all game there should absolutely be no excuse on why you can't do all the totems. Take off one of your meta perks and use a totem cleansing perk or map if you wanna step up. If not risk the noed its up to you. And before the whole "I shouldn't have to bring a perk to counter totems discussion" if killers need gen regression perks to counter gen times, survivors should have perks to counter totems. Thats why they're in the game.

  • @toastcrusher said:

and without a DC penalty you would force killers or even toxic survivors to think about if they want to continue with there behaviour...cause if no one stays in your game...more arguments i can crush?

You've done nothing but just talked with your feelings. You're not forced to play the game you choose to play the game you choose to accept or reject it. Reject it and see what happens. Those people bought the game they play how they want even if its by tunneling and camping. Yea most streamers get tunneled down but most like tru3 don't dc. Other streamers abuse the no dc penalty to dc against certain killers. The biggest "sheep" are the ones who say they aren't sheep btw lol. But at this point you're jsut baiting.

  • Survivors: Nooooo!! You can't use a strong build for blight thats too boring!!!

Also survivors: I'm running BT, Dead hard, DS and Iron will. With a swf on discord just apply pressure.

Like seriously this can go both ways.

this is truely all you can parrot...why screw your team? stop turning things up side down, the reason why people dc is cause of extreme a hole behaviour that starts with killers, fix that and the dc would be less of a problem

Like what exactly? What do killers do thats so problematic? Using certain killers? Tunneling and camping? Using 4 gen defenses? Because thats part of the game but I'm curious on what you think is bad behavior and how dcs are justified.

ah yes i'll buy a whole new console or PC jsut cause DbD is malfunctioning, great reasoning.

Yup. What else can you do? Please tell me bro I'm sure everyone here dealing with freezes/fps drops will appreciate the fix you found. You have 2 options atm play the game as is waiting for an optimization update or buy a whole new system. Thats your only choice at the moment but ima wait for the solution you found. (No dc penalties ain't it)

  • Dc penalty is needed in this game. 72 hours makes more of an impact than getting banned for 1 hour. If you're struggling to play the game because of your internet or the game not running great on your system then there's not much you can do but getting a new isp or system.

  • Survivors should still breath when running. No reason why it should make them quieter.

But this time could be different, Otz is one of the most influential creators in the community, it might have some impact.

    I highly doubt it tbh

  • I literally had to build a pc just to play the game. And repurchase all my dlcs. It was frustrating playing the game at console cuz you can't do anything not even dead hard. And most console players I go against still have the same frame rates drops.

    It's an easy choice though.

The choice of cleansing all dull totems means:

    • The team spend a collective 70 seconds cleansing dull totems (not including finding them) which are spread across the map.
    • Unless you're using a map, totem perk, have personally cleansed all totems or in a SWF or want to waste time running around the map specifically checking if all totems are cleansed - you don't know if they've all been cleansed.
    • Gens aren't progressing quickly, whilst the killer's objective is still progressing. Doesn't matter if you cleanse 5 totems, you still generally need to repair 5 gens to escape. If you're up against an amazing Blight, Nurse or Spirit with meta perks and addons, good luck. They will be snowballing like crazy, you need all the time on gens as you can get.
    • You're counting on the killer using NOED. If the killer isn't, it's a complete waste of time and you're against the clock in this game. Even if you make it out, perhaps another survivor is sacrificed where if you had just rushed gens, they could've escaped.

So trying to counter NOED ends up being more of an issue and inconvenience than NOED itself. Which is why it's pointless trying to cleanse 5 dull totems in most scenarios, as described in the second bullet point above.

But here's the thing for me which alot of people don't seem agree with. Noed punishes the survivor for being lazy. How many times has anyone walked past a totem and doesn't do it? All the time. I try to do the totems that I see just in case. The game is a 4v1 so 1 survivor shouldnt be in charge of destroying all the totems your team should help with that. Counter force is an amazing perk countering totems but alot of people don't bring because they believe its a waste of a slot which can be but thats their decision and thats the risk they take. The killer is running without a perk all game until noed appears and even then it can still be destroyed thats why I don't see why killers perks should all have to be "earned" when survivor perks never have to be earned.

  • @Pepsidot said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2449248#Comment_2449248

The only incentive to cleanse dull totems is if you want BP, have a totem related perk (e.g. Inner Strength), to reduce the effect of TOTH (which no one uses) or to prevent NOED.

So no, survivors should not be punished. I'm not cleansing 5 totems (with all the issues that entails, especially in soloQ) just in case the killer uses NOED - unless I'm having a really chill game where the killer isn't applying any pressure.

Then don't blame the killer for using noed. You made your choice.

  • @supersonic853 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2449248#Comment_2449248

Devour, make your choice, no way out, numerous other killer perks that require earning but have amazing effects despite the fact. Noed is mostly comparable to devour. Devour can be cleansed 30 seconds into the match. Devour requires 3 non camping unhooks from 24 or more meters away to get the instadown. Noed can't be cleansed immedately. Immedately has a instadown. And has a haste effect over devour. And i can stand in a corner and wait for 5 gens to pop and reap the benefit.

Thats why you are punished as a survivor if you fail to do the other objective. But when was the last time a killer used those perks? Not always. And the perks that are earned like bbq and pop survivors want it nerfed. So there's not satisfying those survivors.

  • Killers perks imo should never be "earned" survivors should be punished for not doing totems.

  • It still doesn't make swf with comms balanced. The thing killers complaining about swf is comms and the free information they get. Solo can be stressful yes but I disagree that even if you're a great looper you can't do anything. If you're a great looper you should be able to waste enough time so your team mates can finish gens. If you're struggling in solo red ranks then sorry but you're not suppose to be that rank.

  • I'll proxy camping as well if I don't spot a survivor on gens or ill tunnel if a survivor uses their ds on me. This game should be play by how you want to play not what survivors think is "fun"because then you'll just be a farming bot.

  • This is gonna be hard for some people to take in but camping killers will never ever be penalized more than losing some emblem points.

Why is it always the fault of those evil Survivors?

Old Tinkerer was changed, because it was a Perk with a confusing Mechanic. It only benefited certain Add Ons and Killers and was useless with other Killers and Add Ons. And it was easier to change the Perk, since it was not only confusing but the Devs would have needed to balance everything with Tinkerer in mind so that certain Add Ons do not become too strong with Tinkerer or too weak without Tinkerer.

Since they changed the entire effect, Tinkerer only received Buffs.

Why is it always the fault of those evil killer mains?

Same thing can be said for both sides. Except it kinda is the survivors fault that perks, add ons, and killers get nerfed. Hell even the reworked maps like the saw map is survivor sided. Survivor mains tend to whine alot which isn't surprising because they have the majority. But the discussion here is if tinkerer is too strong, I think its decent not too strong and not too weak. God forbid killers use perks that have synergy with their power.

  • Tinkerer is fine tbh. And tinkerer is the way it is because survivors thought old tinkerer was too op or the devs thought it was too strong its one of those 2. But a 7% speed buff would be too oppressing that would guarantee a down or a hit.

  • I love me some blast mine. Unless its used on me then f blast mine lol.

  • Oh look another spirit has not counterplay thread. Can people come up with their own opinions instead spewing the same thing their favorite streamer says? Its getting old. But I will agree keys need a change.

    in H Comment by Unifall
  • I agree its a bit scummy changing last minute but I don't think the devs could implement soemthing so survivors can't change items in lobby.

  • Proxy camping now???? You mean when you know there's survivors near by and you check round to find then. Survivors will call anything camping or tunneling.

  • The strongest for me is freddy. Shut down loops with blood pools and fast teleportation.

Best design probably has to be nemesis. His ability is weird and uninspired but I find him unique.

  • On the bright side with this they might finally increase gen times or buff killers who are struggling.

Yes, please explain it. I am new to the game and I am also very dumb. /s

And nah, the Devs confirmed that SWF was planned from the beginning, but during the initial launch they only had the time to either implement SWF or KYF, they went for KYF.

And while SWF provides an Advantage, Killer Mains are really overestimating this advantage and most of the time they lose because they are not good enough and not because of SWFs. There are countless examples of Killers winning against 4 man SWFs, yet those get ignored.

SWF is not a secret godmode. A SWF of 4 competent Survivors is strong, but those 4 players as Solos would probably be the same Challenge for the Killer, because, believe it or not, some Survivors are not that braindead that they need someone to tell them that they have to work on Gens.

But, this whole discussion is pointless, the Devs will never implement something like this, because they actually have more knowledge of game design than some Killer Mains.

You said it not me. But ill go with that you're new.

Not even the devs have any idea on balance tbf. When they "balance" a killer they either map it too strong, weak or add unnecessary nerfs to their abilities such as billy. Yes swf does bring an advantage! Good job. You're getting it. Swf isn't a problem on paper ill agree but its really unfair when they bring in comms which honestly almost 99% of them do.

Some examples or the advantages is-knowing the killers position, location of totems, what gens are close to being done, what gens not to loop, when the killer is camping, bringing perks that has the ability to recover from the game if it goes bad, BT all using UB ds etc, what pallets are left which ones are up, what generators to work together, which hook to sabo. Like it or not SWF has an unfair advantage. How they would balance it im not sure maybe limiting the same perks in a swf is a good start but it does need something. But ImaGInE NoT WanTInG PeOple tO PlAy WiTH FriEnds!!!!! Did i do it right?

  • Eh idk I don't find it excited or fun as well. Plus its from Twitter, the most boring site in the planet. I would like to see mini events in game maps to tease the next killer. Just like apex legends events when releasing lore or a new killer.

  • @Aven_Fallen said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2424038#Comment_2424038

4 Solos are not really a challenge most of the time. Most SWFs are also not a challenge for the most part.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2424046#Comment_2424046

"Swf was more of an after thought. "

It was NEVER an "after thought". SWF was planned from the beginning. Imagine someone wants to create a game in 2016 with one side being a Team without the option to play together...

Pretty sure it was because if it wasn't swf would be a bit more balanced. But do you understand why people think swf has an advantage or do I have to explain it to you?

  • @grtf47 said:

I know swfs are annoying but perhaps you can try to use them as a way to learn your weaknesses as opposed to winning against potato's

There's no getting better against swf. If so give me examples on why it will and I'll give you examples why killers could never get better against swf.

    @Aven_Fallen said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2424013#Comment_2424013

Nah, I just find it legit funny that a Killer Main calls someone a Tryhard, while wanting to dodge Lobbies to get a full Solo-Lobby, just to have it as easy as possible.

And the thought is amusing that someone does a 3 hour playsession in the evening with 2 hours of them dodging Lobbies, because be careful, there is an evil SWF and as we all know, every SWF in this game is at least tournament-level.

And well, SWF is not cheating.

The game was made for solo ques. Swf was more of an after thought. For the most part swf offer a huge advantage but you don't agree with that right? Its clear when its a swf. Its not very fun for the killer but only survivor mains can have fun right? Get real. This is why the us vs them examples are always a bad way to express your opinion.

  • I think its only if its done multiple times and admitted it. But I could be wrong.

  • Eh i don't really its gonna fix anything tbh. I'm not sure yet but imo ita just gonna hide the problem than fix match making. Because that's easier to do.

  • They don't really listen to ptb feed back and test for bugs before release.

  • It would be nice to have more woman killers. Usually they have the best skins.

  • Oh damn! Super speed blight boi. He might even tap into the speed force.

  • I miss old Franklin's where the item would disappear that was always satisfying to see.

what, that you lack the skill to not care about a measly key?

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2416155#Comment_2416155

    'overpowered'

    let's see:

    1. requires a certain number of gens to be done
    2. requires the players to find the hatch

so, even if they bring a hatch offering... they still have to get all these done first... which can can usually do pretty easily while you're busy chasing the keyholder.

heck, judging by the justifciation I'd say some people bring a key as distraction, and you people are falling for it. wow

So is this post about you defending keys? because it seems like you're trying to justify them. Because when someone comes in with a key thats immediately in the back of your mind. "Lack the skill to not care" is such a bad take. 1. Gens fly so fast that most of the time 1-2 gens can pop within the 1st chase depending on the map/killer. 2. The hatch can be easily found on most maps not that hard. The killer will be focused on defending gens that the survivor will have time to find it. Its easier with the new offerings like the shack/main building hatch spawns. And yes killer can be stressful to new people its less stressful than survivor. Anything can cause stress not just work bro.

Face camping isn't toxic bro. Killing survivors is the killers job. Whether its camping tunneling or bleed out. Survivors and killers aren't their for either sides entertainment. They shouldn't tell each other how to play. You got me messed up if a a survivor/killer says "they didn't have fun" thats not my problem. This game is competitive thats why you rank up. This isn't about Killers or Survivors, this is about one player having the ability to completely negate another players ability to play the game. That is a design flaw.

Not a design flaw. A design flaw would be old hooks where a killer would stand in a certain spot to prevent a survivor from grabbing the hooked survivor or old relenting and STBFL stacking. You have the ability to save a survivor if your team works with you. Thats why its a team based game. You're not playing a 1v1 you're playing a 1v4.

  • Monstrous shrine should give a % debuff for gens, healing, and totems to all survivors as long as the survivor is in there.

Unlike you, I play both killer and survivor almost equally. And when I get 3k, I don't slug, because I don't want to waste anyone's time (including my own) on these childish attempts to seem powerful and almighty. I'm here to play the game, not to assert myself.

I play both sides and a red rank on both sides and I don't think slugging for the 4k is toxic. I slug for the 4k. I want to get extra bp. If I'm nice and a survivor gets hatch, most of the time im greeted with "gg ez" it doesn't feel as rewarding as a 4k.

This still doesn't solve the the 3gen + key = 2 out for free problem, it just makes it so it cannot be done in the killer's face.

Maybe have the hatch respawn at a different location after using a key and can't be opened for maybe 8 seconds?

  • Imo a change to keys would be to "repair/unlock" the hatch which should take 15 seconds to open with hard skill checks if you miss 2 in a row the key breaks to a broken key. The killers should get a hatch imagine that shows the % of the hatch completion in red.

  • Becusae killers can't pressure 4 people at the same time. Right now gens go by so fast that with prove thyself I can get at least 2 gens done before the first person is downed. Which is now easier these days. Killers should be allowed to tunnel, camp and slug. Becuase those things slow the survivors progress if that's their playstyle. Also killers shouldn't play by your rules but their own. Make gens take longer to complete and maybe killers will play less like that.
