Upon reading lots of different posts that claimed, that high prestige survivors were tunneled or lobby dodged, I made a discussion to ask how bad this issue really is. I personally don't understand why high prestige would make a difference to some people because you could just as well play a character for thousands of hours without leveling them.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/406496/questions-for-p100s
The results however were clear. Many confirmed that they were indeed dodged or specifically targeted commonly. This has led to some players not playing their favorite characters anymore because they have no interest in sitting in a lobby for minutes on end. So instead of high prestige serving as a reward to show off dedication to a character, players actually feel as if they are punished for it. Which is quite the opposite of what should happen.
I also have had a few matches in which I performed badly on my P100 Hillbilly and was then prestige shamed. Fortunately, this seems like a rare occurance but it's bad enough that it happens at all.
This is why I ask for an option to hide prestige in pre game lobbies and end game lobbies as well. Killer players do not need to know, who has a high prestige character before the match starts and people that feel self-conscious about their prestige should have the option to hide it for everyone else in the end game lobby as well.
Be honest, you know exactly what will happen if hiding prestige is optional. Anyone hiding their prestige will be assumed to be high prestige and the killer players that dodge lobbies that look too challenging will just dodge anytime they see a hidden prestige. It's no different than when survivors use anonymous mode. Because a survivor is hiding information, everyone assumes the worst about them and dips.
There's no point in doing half measures. You either hide it for everyone or you don't bother at all. This middle ground approach would solve absolutely nothing.

It's a nice piece of music. But it hardly screams "I'm a bacon sandwich, come get a boop".
-
Distortion isn't meta. Complaining about Distortion is though.
-
I have no idea what a "Hello Zepp" is. But I have always thought it was sad that she is a licensed killer with a default TR and chase music. As much as I think all killers should have their own music, licensed killers definitely should.
I'd love her to get some sort of pork inspired theme. Maybe the Peppa Pig intro? Whilst they're at it, Demo should get a Homer Simpson burp sound effect for when it lands a shred on a survivor instead of the usual screech.
-
I played a solo queue match a few days ago against a Doctor. He was hard tunneling me, and my teammates did everything they could to keep me alive. Body blocking him and not letting him re-hook me. They caught up to me at a loop and formed a shield on either side of me, not letting him get near.
They could have just left me to it, as I was wasting a fair bit of his time, but their priority was to keep me alive. They could have easily finished off the last gen and escaped, but they wanted to protect me, even though they didn't know me personally. I don't generally expect that degree of care from strangers, especially online, so to see it was kind of a shock. It genuinely made me smile during a match that, up until that point was pretty stressful.
I just wish I had access to end-game chat so I could have thanked them.

the only ones I called scumbags are the people who run it WITH left behind and dont help there team at all. I dont think thats overkill at all I think thats a very accurate description of people who screw over there team for a easy escape like that dont you?
"the perk isnt fun for either side, bc survivors who use it use it in the most seflish scumbag way possible"
If you were being inarticulate then fair enough. But you literally said that survivors who run it play like scumbags.
-
It's always been a crapshoot. Sometimes you get good teammates that can pull their weight, and other times you get boiled potatoes that play so badly that it's impossible to win or even have a decent match. The only improvement we got was the HUD. But it doesn't make bad teammates good, as the dodgy matchmaking has always been the biggest issue.
-
Wouldn't it just be better to change the system mechanics rather than devote a perk slot to fixing the issue?
Just make it so when all survivors are inside the exit gates and the killer isn't nearby the timer goes down faster. It wouldn't impact regular gameplay and you wouldn't have use a perk slot.
It would be nice to see some bi-partisanship when it comes to tackling toxicity though. People generally only want the other side stripped of their ability to BM, but if you try to take their ability to do it away they get very upset.
-
I only see it every few games and it's always just some survivor playing normally. No Left Behind. Just some dude playing the match normally.
Losing your mind and calling people scumbags for runnning it is overkill.

However, in reality, digging a tunnel in DBD attracts far more hate than completing a combo in a fighting game. that's strange.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3660071#Comment_3660071
For serious survivors, tunnels are a tactic, creating a 3-on-1 situation if effective, and guaranteeing escape for 3 Survivors if not. The person targeted is an important person who holds the key, and it is a very rewarding role. Yes, for serious players.
I know this is a game for casual players. However, I am disgusted by the way people who have no intention of winning get angry at killers when they lose due to their own fault, and the remarkable efforts of conservation groups to justify this.
I think for more casual survivors, getting singled out and targeted when they are vulnerable (off the hook and not healed yet) just feels bad. They don't have the skill or map knowledge to avoid going down again fast and so they quickly die whilst the other survivors are ignored. Streamers quite enjoy getting tunneled but that's just because it makes better content than doing gens.
Sometimes people are just upset that they have lost and will use whatever excuse they have to justify their frustration. That's always been my experience in fighting games, and I don't play games that have infinite loops or ToD combos like MvC.

Tunnels in DBD are equivalent to combos in fighting games, but are considered harmful. It's the same.
If we learn about the world and don't solve the problem only within DBD, we will soon realize that many people are saying kiddy things.
I think of tunneling like playing four player Smash. I'd rather go for the player with the most stocks, that way everyone gets to play for as long as possible. It's not the most accurate comparison but it's how I feel about it. Ideally everyone gets to play and contribute to the match for as long as possible.

The CJ tech isn't as common or as interesting as you say it is, and it's only "fun" when a survivor fails miserably and gets hit. In my last 200 hours as a killer, I've probably only seen it twice. Survivors don't go for them anymore because they only work against that Trapper player who got the game on sale yesterday.
"Stuff like that is part of why the game is still going" No, it literally isn't. This game is still going (despite the janky controls you defend) because there isn't anything else like it.
"Going for dumb, risky plays is part of what keeps veteran survivor players around." Again, you couldn't be more wrong. People who have put 5k hours or more into this game keep playing because they have already invested so much time and money, and won't quit because of the removal of the CJ tech.
I'm gonna be honest here, I don't usually see people arguing against adding QoL features. That's a wild position to take, lmao.
You mischaracterized what I said. It's not about the CJ Tech itself, it's about creativity. Removing creative options is a bad thing as it makes gameplay more stale. I never said it was common. I didn't even defend the jank controls. I'm just saying that the reason BHVR hasn't removed them is likely because they don't want the remove certain interactions. They could have easily changed the controls for killer years ago but still haven't.
I have a view as to why veteran players stick around and you have your view. Your perspective is no less an opinion than mine is.
Again, I'm not arguing against QoL features. I simply said that BHVR needs to be careful as to what interactions they choose to remove from the game. You're arguing against a position that I don't even hold.

I'm sorry you encounter toxicity on a regular basis. I meet toxic killers but it's not the majority of my matches. Sometimes getting BM'd for looping well does sour my mood, but that feeling wears off.
There are nice people online, it can just be hard to find them sometimes. I hope you encounter more players with better attitudes.
-
Seraphor is correct. Skill checks do lag when spectating. The cheaters I've seen in videos don't even display the skill check wheel. Only the sound plays.
The anti-face camping mechanic does allow for second stage self-unhooks.
Some killers have access to Killer Instinct which shows survivor locations even without aura reading perks. Even without that, sometimes killers either just get lucky or have good map sense.

Technically CJ techs are exploits. The devs have started to fix exploits for the purpose of fixing exploits, no matter how much of an advantage they grant or how much counterplay they have, so this should go as well. Otherwise it's inconsequential and one might call it hypocritical.
Most of the interesting stuff in this game is an exploit of some kind. If BHVR wanted to add more control options for killer that would remove some of this stuff I think they would have done it by now.
Sometimes players discover things and they get kept in the game as it adds something that the devs didn't think about including. I think removing locker blinds was a good call as it had no counterplay when there's two survivors in lockers next to each other, but the CJ Tech has counterplay, you just wait a few frames before trying to break the pallet.
I'm not a fan of blanket rules. Some exploits add to the game in way that is positive and some are just awful. It should be done on a case by case basis and each should be judged on their merits.

I once had a survivor say the match was "easy", even though they were the first to die. I didn't hit them on hook or rage quit or did anything that players generally don't approve of, so I don't understand why they felt the need to say that.
But then again, I once had someone say they hoped I burned alive. There is no way of truly understanding why this toxicity happens, only that it does, regardless of how the match went.
I remember the good days when the end game chat had five ggs and nothing else. Wish that still happened.
I got raged at for doing combos in a fighting game one time. Stupidity is limitless.

Last time they put out player numbers almost half of all survs were in a two-man SWF, with threes and fours way less common.
But this varies by region, with SWF groups much more common in North & South America and in Europe than in Asia for example. So in Asia perks like Self Care are ran more often because SWF are ran less often, causing survs to be more reliant on themselves. The dev's charts always show usage of Self Care being very high globally, even though it's ran way less in certain regions, a fact that sites like Nightlight won't reflect.
Imo the true strength of SWF is screening teammates. You pick who you play with and know what their loadouts are, plus have the comfort of knowing most likely you won't be left behind. You know whether they're doing a challenge or rift or daily, and over time learn their tendencies & weaknesses. There's no way for solos to know any of this, with no realistic way of getting them this info either outside of showing builds somewhere.
Basically it mitigates the randomness of solo queue a lot. Comms can be useful, but all of that matters more I think.
I played about four matches today. My first had the killer drop chase with me after about a minute of looping. He then grabbed a teammate off a gen. He then grabbed a second off a different gen. Then the first survivor got grabbed again off a dull totem.
The second match a teammate got hooked, then a second went down after trying to body block the hook. Then a third teammate fast vaulted into a locker and got grabbed. All three in the basement.
Playing survivor is just a mess sometimes.

Because "the rest" is 90% of the time just silent and therefore complacent.
I did the experiment for a prolonged time by going for 8hooks/0kills with no camping or tunneling and from my observation nice, encouraging messages are about as frequent as or sometimes rarer than blatant toxicity.
The rest is softly positive/negative attitude, like a GG (ez) no matter how the match went, or in the vast majority of cases just silence.
I'm sorry you've had lousy experiences, genuinely. But only focusing on the worst people doesn't do you any favours. It just makes you feel like crap.
I'm also part of that silent majority as I'm on console, so can't even engage with the end game chat. If I could I would be actively thanking killers for "playing nice". The best I can do is leave an item at the gates and hope that my intention is receieved as I intend it. I'm sure there are plenty of other players like myself.

@MikeStev said:
If you play solo and get three other solid players then you can immediately tell that the matchmaking is the problem
hmm? SoloQ means getting random teammates, some use healing builds some use build for generator, some can loop killer longer some down fast etc. isn't that normal? Isn't that the same thing for SWF? unless you're playing with a tournament team.
Being in a SWF doesn't mean you will have good teammates. Solo players just think being in a SWF will lead to successful matches because killers constantly complain that SWF is broken and unbeatable. But most players don't have the opportunity to SWF, so they never realise that it's not true.
-
@MikeStev said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3659903#Comment_3659903
from what I read it's not like that (not about matchmaking).
They want to close the gap between soloQ and SWF, they even asked for voice chat or more information for soloQ like basekit Kindred for example, making players able to see who is swf who is soloq etc.
What is the difference between soloQ and swf? The information received by the player.
SWF = good teammate, Random = bad teammate? Nope, SWF don't always mean good players, your friends can make mistakes and then you laugh together because it's a friend or because there's voice chat, people tend to be more tolerant.
Most people who play solo don't ever touch SWF. Because of that, they assume that having info is what makes a difference, when it's not. If you play solo and get three other solid players then you can immediately tell that the matchmaking is the problem.
-
@MikaelaWantsYourBoon said:
I don't. When killer play fair, i respect them because i know they would win easily with a bit tunnelling.
Some people are just toxic, there is no fix for them tho.
Yep. Plenty of survivors are pleasant and will even thank the killer for "playing nice". But if even one survivor is toxic, all that goes out the window, and the only thing that matters is the one toxic person. The kind players are immediately discarded.
I've extended a handshake to plenty of players online, only to get a slap in the face for my troubles. The difference is that I don't focus on that one person and ignore everyone else.
-
@MalekithHatesSnow said:
Wonder why so many people camp and tunnel if you're gonna get flamed might as well win too
Why do you think killer players have no autonomy? You act like everything they do in life is just a reaction to how other people behave.
If you meet one toxic person and decide to build your entire mentality around that and ignore everything else, then that's on you. That's a choice you have made. Nobody forced you to do that, you chose it.
-
The main complaint people have about solo queue is the bad matchmaking. If you have bad teammates then you lose the match. That's the problem. People don't want to play well and lose regardless because the matchmaking decided to screw them over. The HUD doesn't fix that. Nor does bringing a medkit, and no perk combo will help.
Having more info can help to an extent, but if the matchmaking is bad then it makes no difference.
-
Welcome to being online. Most people are the worst versions of themselves. That goes for killer players too.
You met one survivor who sucked. What about the other three who didn't trash talk? Why focus on the minority and ignore the rest?
-
Solo Queue Fix - Just assume the match will be a disaster with no chance of success and it will be less painful. It's sad but it does work. Playing something else is also very effective. I've been loving Tekken 8 recently.

CJ Tech is literally capitalizing on Jank controls. Besides BHVR and 80% of the Playerbase (as those are Casuals), can't even do it properly
Yes, it is capitalising on jank controls, but that's not the point. BHVR has to be careful when removing creativity from the game, especially with the survivor role as doing interesting things is what keeps the gameplay engaging. Survivor doesn't get new mechanics every three months the way killer does, so there needs to be stuff to keep players entertained.
As annoying as it might be for killer players, stuff like that is part of why the game is still going, despite having had the same stale gameplay loop for the last seven years or so. Going for dumb, risky plays is part of what keeps veteran survivor players around.
I just don't see BHVR ever removing stuff like that. The game needs all the skill expression it can get.

-
My guess is that it's because it would eliminate some of the creativity for survivors, making gameplay more stale than it already is. Things like the CJ Tech would no longer work and you'd never see a killer accidently vault out a second story window.

Odd bc most my games are against players that all know each other.... and are swfing...
"so if they get slugged to death it's genuinely because the killer wants to waste everyone's time"
this is pretty stupid considering I just listed reasons why you are forced to slug but ok just gloss over that
Killers who slug and let you bleed out are a very small minority of players they are just broadcasted so much that it seems like alot of ppl do that when in all actuality they dont.
- Maybe you are at high MMR, most players aren't. Solo players sure as hell aren't.
- I didn't say that there are no valid reasons to bleed survivors out. I didn't gloss over anything. I didn't even say the majority of killers do it. I'm simply saying that most survivors are not running a full SWF that can make hooking impossible. When they are getting bled out for four minutes straight it's purely because the killer player is trolling.
- If you think that killers wouldn't do it for the lulz then you underestimate just how much hostility some killer players have towards survivors in general. I've seen the term "sociopath" used to describe survivor players quite often.

I second you on that but even then look at soul guard builds where you get endurance for picking yourself up, and you cant hook bc they all have toolboxes and if you drop them they scatter and repeat, idk why people think killers slug bc they want to, i dont enjoy making people bleed out its boring asf, but some games I cant do jack ######### but that.
Most players don't play in squads, so if they get slugged to death it's genuinely because the killer wants to waste everyone's time. I've only experienced it a few times, but I had an experience where a Bubba managed to down my three teammates who were all in one place, I went over to help and got downed. The Bubba just left everyone on the floor and nobody had UB, so we all just lay there and slowly bled out.
BHVR could make changes that would limit the ability for squads to be obnoxious without harming everyone else, as most players (solo queue) have zero potential to do anything close to what might be considered griefing.
-

like the infinite self pick up/endurance builds
or ######### boil over builds where you quite literally cant ######### pick them up
Then fix that crap. Boil Over has been a stupid janky perk for years now.
-
If slugging all four survivors at once till they bleed out is just part of gameplay, then I'll make a suggestion. Let's have a mechanic where if all four survivors make it to the exit gate, they get a barrier that protects them from the killer. It lasts four minutes and survivors can choose to force the killer to wait till the timer finishes, at which point the survivors win.
There's a bunch of people here defending the right for killers to waste four minutes of the other player's time when the killer has already won, so this shouldn't be a problem, right?
-
Ghostface has a reveal mechanic? I assumed it was an urban legend, seeing as every time I stare at him it does nothing.

@Leonardo1ita said:
I think the add-on is fine if we consider that:
- TVs can always be deactivated by survivors, and in case of issues with the character, the problem is NOT the speed after the teleport, but something related to Condemn itself.
- With decent reaction time, survivors almost always have a chance to react and leave the loop completely fine, or vault a window or pallet or drop a pallet at the right moment, or pre drop the pallet.
- On the macro game, it doesn't change too much without it.
- It's perhaps one of the most fun things about Sadako, removing it would suck.
- In the very end, the issues on the macro play coming from Sadako come from the new/casual players not knowing how to counter her. The issue here is that there are no useful enough tips, no training on how to really counter her, and the ones in the loading screen EVIDENTLY don't get read.
TLDR / To conclude, players need tips in real time on what to do to counter her, nerfing her add-ons or basekit if a bit too strong is not the way to go, otherwise we'll keep bottlenecking the killers' potential just because survivors don't learn (or worse don't wanna learn for psychological bias).
"With decent reaction time, survivors almost always have a chance to react and leave the loop completely fine".
This completely disregards the fact that roughly 50% of the playerbase is somebody's elderly grandmother. What are Agatha, Gladys or Betty gonna do?
-
The game is balanced to favour the killer, survivor is balanced as though everyone is in a SWF, bad matchmaking means a guaranteed loss for survivors, getting hooked once often ends the match for a player (as you're going to get tunneled straight off the hook), and if someone gets killed early in the match there's no way for survivors to bounce back, so they just have to play through the match with no hope of winning (not to mention that if you actually try and keep going the match will last forever).
Is it really a shock that survivors aren't having good time? Most new survivor perks are either mediocre or boring (sometimes both). Adding basement self-care? What an interesting perk. Basement Deliverance that doesn't work in end game? Exciting. A gen perk that requires you to sit on your rear end in the basement for two minutes straight? Fantastic.
It's too easy to just say that every survivor who is having a lousy time is entitled. Let's be real, it's just an excuse to disregard every complaint survivors have.
-
Nullifying counterplay to ranged abilities always causes the same problems. I'd rather she were 4.6 than be able to glue herself to survivors to guarantee a hatchet hit at every loop.
-

There's no issue with a gif like that, given the context, which is what was missing in your original post.
Whilst I'm still not sure why it might be viewed as disrespectful, I at least understand your reasoning. I will try to be more clear the next time I use one.

Someone made a thread saying that the PTB was today. I asked if that was the case. Someone responded saying it was scheduled for the 20th (today). I responded with this:
I only meant to show that I was excited for the seeing the new killer. I didn't think it would be viewed as being disrespectful.

Thank you.
It was an ape doing a happy dance in response to finding out the new killer PTB was scheduled for today. I appreciate the clarification but I'm still confused, just about something else now. If you can't discuss the reasoning openly as mod that's okay but maybe someone else could elaborate.
Edit: I'm not sure how anyone could explain it to me without the context so ignore that last request.
