Interesting...
- that’s straight up exactly what most survivors do, I’m getting the idea you’re inexperienced.
- Anything that doesn’t financial compensate me is not my job, otherwise I’d put it on my taxes. I choose to provide examples and I have so scroll up and find them if you want to read more about it.
- To exploit; to selfishly take advantage of someone or something at benefit to one’s self, commonly at the cost of another. (Nothing to do with coded errors, exploitation is, as you stated, a behavior)
- setting traps, breaking pallets, yada yada yada, does not take much time, so if given a grace period of say 10 seconds of not pausing the hook and your still there, yeah, your obviously camping and trying to find an excuse to still be in the area.
- I’m not “sorry” per say, that you’re getting “a little heated” in a community discussion, but it is unfortunate. Nobody is going to back down because you want them to, that’s not how things work in the real world.
I spend my time playing, not spamming forums. I've already spent more time on this obviously bad idea that's bad than I'd like. You're clearly a bad faith debater- you know that exploit as a noun is different than exploit as a verb (or maybe you don't, but it's not my job to teach you parts of speech). If you're just going to toxic survivor all over the place, feel free to scream into the void. I'll just hope I never encounter you in game and not bother with you anymore here. Way to take a fun ribbing of OP's suggestion and turn it into two days of irritation and disgust.

- Not showing survivors auras is no guarantee that all 3 are in range, there are several ways to hide your aura from that perk you should be aware of.
- there’s plenty of ways to make such a feature less exploitable if you put some thought into it.
- camping in itself is an exploit so if your going to resist this function on those grounds you should acknowledge the former.
- any killer worth their salt has no fear of unhooking. Unless you are not confident in being able to find a survivor more than once.
1) Yes you can hide in lockers and whatnot; most Survivors don't bother doing that. And if you don't see anyone, they certainly ALL wouldn't hide in lockers outside 40M away. If you don't see anyone you might as well hunt around the hook region.
2) it's YOUR job to demonstrate how you could make it unexploitable. YOU'RE the one saying this is needed.
3) No, it's not. It's a behavior, not an error coded into the game. It's a real scumbag move. I hate it and it makes the game worse for all parties.
4) yes, you're right. The corollary to your statement is that a good killer may stay NEAR a hook without camping to do some of the other stuff I said (reload, set traps, break pallets, kick gens), and, by the extremely bad idea you support, would not get any hook progression.
You got camped by someone who felt uncertain in their skills. I'm sorry you had that terrible experience. It sucks. This solution makes the game unplayable for killers. Every killer has several things that survivors do that are jerk things to do that aren't exploits and gets them riled. Flashlight flicking, teabagging, gesturing at the killer, locker spamming? These are all jerk moves. I'm not going to suggest something like giving anyone who crouches 10 times in 5 seconds exhaustion for 30 seconds for basically doing squat thrusts in front of me.
Your idea is not a solution.
Edited to take the edge off a bit. I'm getting a little heated by you spamming this forum topic trying to suggest this "solution" as a thing that wouldn't completely break the game. It would. Stop.

Guess you're not a Futurama watcher, then. Otherwise you'd understand I was quoting said show.
I could go into other things about how pausing a hook timer while a killer is within range, say, setting traps, or using intel they have from their perks (if bbq and chilli doesn't show everyone, then all three must be within range, but I'll run away and let them get that unhook for free because if I don't walk away the hook timer will never start...), or breaking pallets, or any number of things that aren't camping but would be treated as such by this bad suggestion, but I really didn't want to do anything other than convey my point with a pithy quote.
In short, this is impossible for survivors to NOT exploit, even by mistake, and it's impossible it's not punitive against killers. What OP suggests is "What if all survivors had a free hook pausing perk that they could exploit by keeping the killer within range?"
-
This suggestion is bad and you should feel bad!

*A* fix needed to happen. *THIS* fix was garbage. It took me all of 30 seconds to think up a more effective system.
Every two hooks gets you a kill to use. Tentative additional restriction: the survivor had to have been hooked at least once to use the kill.
As things stand, setting it to two hooks per makes it less time consuming to find a hook and death hook them rather than kill a survivor. Don't be surprised if they announce virtually nobody has used Moris following these changes, and they are going to try to figure something else out now.
In essence, I think the Devs are going to make more work for themselves by taking the "easy" solution.

@sQuAde said:
"gave bad killers a chance to at least do decent."
first of all, if you're doing bad you shouldn't deserve a kill in the first place. The mori nerf was a good change.
Nah, it was a bad change. But a change at all was necessary. Don't conflate the two.

@noctis129 said:
Ppl are scared the devs will bring mori's back if enough ppl complain.
I don't want them to bring it back to one. I want them to not do the laziest option to "fix" it. Now it's longer to kill than to just bring to a hook. Keys still needed a fix but since that would require effort because they put thought into appeasing survivors, they logjammed this through instead.
Here's a fix that retains Mori usefulness. Make a Mori give you a kill for every two hooks you get. If it needs a restriction above and beyond that, make it so that you can only use your banked kills against a survivor who's already been hooked once.
That solution took literally a minute to think up and it's still better than what they did.
Look, I get why the Devs do this stuff this way. There needs to be four times as many Survivors as Killers so of course they're going to favor the Survivors. But if they keep this up, there's not going to be people who want to play Killers, and then there's no game at all.

I am so sorry this happened :(!! I hate when I get a swf team because a lot of the time, they leave me on the hook to rush generators and then provoke the killer. Not all the time, of course, I'm sure I've had some fantastic teammates in a SWF, but I hate seeing someone on my team bullying other players or the killer. I don't have post game chat, but if I did, I would have stood up for you. If someone accidentally 'camps' (which you definitely didn't do, bless your soul lol <3) and explain it in chat and still bet harassed, I don't know how I would react. I also use whispers when I play killer, and I definitely look like a lost puppy following them :)!! Good luck in your next matches and I hope they're more fun than this one!
Appreciate the sentiment, thank you. It'd just be nice to not have a game focused on try harding every now and then, y'know?

Clown is often regarded as the worst killer in the game you can still get a 4k with him but it's a lot harder. Your icon was clown.

lmao, ok buddy.
Learn the difference between video games and real life. If you can't see the difference between someone spitting at you in real life and someone spamming CTRL on their keyboard to make their character go up and down you're always going to be offended and upset.
It's the essential same sentiment. I'm trying to have fun and someone who teabags at the pallet is calling you a sh-t player. It's not pleasant to play against.

Maybe it's a regional thing, but at least where I'm at (Western US, dunno how well they segment regions) this kind of thing falls WAY off at higher ranks. The green and weaker purple ranks seemed to be where I found the most salt. Red ranks is pretty much just gg by both sides no matter the outcome, with maybe some light sympathy if a match went poorly for one side.
It's not some Utopia, of course, some guy was playing like a dingus earlier and kept ending up wherever I was, and wasn't very good at looping, so he died first. He waited until the match was over to complain that I had tunneled him "because I didn't like Trump" (dude's name had Trump in it, but I hardly notice these things as I'm, you know, playing the game) and then he proceeded to go on like a 10 minute long rant until the chat server died about how California was killing Arizona and how Arizona wants to go to war with California, it was the most batshit crazy nonsense I'd ever seen, and at first I thought he was just doing it to meme before election time, but the way he kept going and going and going makes me think he may have been a little unhinged.
That said, I found it amazingly entertaining!
As someone from that state, allow me to say us desert-dwellers would disown am angry little man such as that. There's a difference between wanting a fun game and losing one's sh-t about it. I just want to have some fun. 😄

Why do you ask, out of curiosity?

If killers are murder-providers...toxic survs are Karens. That explains everything.
We've cracked the code! 😯
Though frankly I'm smugly self-satisfied with the whole "murder-based customer service" thing. 😝

If it’s any consolation, although most top tier SWF teams are bloody hard work, they’re usually also the most predictable survivors to go against, and that CAN be used against them.
Observe and take note of recurring behaviours across suspected SWF. For example: when I highly suspect SWF I usually slug more aggressively because there is almost ALWAYS a team mate that can be found close by either waiting for a flashlight save, or to follow me to a hook.
Thanks for that insight. Solid advice. Though that'll probably land me on their sh-t list for slugging or camping but hey that'll happen no matter what, right? 😝

Just turn your emotions off- say, "brain, end emotions.exe", and POOF, you'll be a killer robot.
...what do you mean you can't turn your emotions off? Oh, right...because you're human, and that's okay.
Hang in there, man. I made a frustration rant the other day covering pretty much these same issues. Also, don't be afraid to play a little dirty to get a point across- things like an early-game mori tend to let survs know you're not messing around, and puts them on edge.
I keep trying to dig my emotions out with a salad fork but my pre-frontal cortex keeps getting in the way. 😄
In all seriousness, appreciate your backup. And counter-playing toxicity with more toxicity doesn't make me feel great. I think it's the fact that I can't retroactively gear up a Mori for a team that was already sh-tty to play against. At that point I'm just taking it out on the subsequent team. I don't feel good about that.
I don't know. Behavior seems to be of the "gear the game to survivors" mindset, which makes sense from a raw numbers perspective. You need four times as many survivors as any one killer. But that makes killers service providers in some ways, and if we're dispensing murder-based customer service, then Behavior needs to up their game to cut down on survivor toxicity.
That's not to say that killers aren't toxic, of course, but (going by Dwight's earlier comment) it seems much more endemic in survivors.

If someone's dumb enough to pretend they don't have a massive advantage, if they genuinely believe they earned anything the game gave them, then what do you care? They're clearly too stupid to have a rational exchange, and they clearly need the petty victory because no-ones giving them much-needed attention IRL.
I care because I want to provide fun, and the collaborative effort of a fun game is being undercut by angry angry people.
As I said I don't need to kill anyone, but I do want some thrilling chases, a fair number of hooks spread across the survivors, and, following that, a close shave of an escape. Kills should be the result of misplays or good plays by the killer, not a knife fight in a grimy alley with biting.
Five minutes of stealth gens (with diligent patrolling) followed by "lol fukken loser git gud" didnt provide a good time to anyone.
-
I won't prestige until it gets reworked to acknowledge that leveling all killers and survivors requires 6,300 levels. If you want to max all perks too, then you have to multiply that by 3 again, for a total of 18,900 levels.
The current system was clearly meant for people who have played this game for over thousands of hours and is badly in need of a rework to bring a new set of high-tier players into the game.

Unfortunately you'll see this kind of antagonistic behavior ten fold in the high ranks. Its rampant. The only advice I could give is try and ignore it. They want to trigger you. Get you to make mistakes. The really toxic ones will want you to chase them so the others can do gens.
You need a thick skin as a red rank killer otherwise this sort of behavior will drive you nuts.
Thank you for the reassurance I'm not crazy, and the supportive words. The thing is I expect a higher level of play at higher ranks, obviously. I just don't play this game to be the target of a 4- person psyop designed to break my soul.
Again, not angry. Despondent.

@Axe said:
they would use discord and mute DBD so whats the point exactly?
Well, there's a certain percentage that wouldn't bother with Discord if it was a default feature in the game, even if Discord is strictly speaking better. And it would only be muted if Behavior gave the option to mute it. If they made it a default setting, then getting double talk would compel people who would use Discord to use the game version.
And some part of me hoped that survivors would want the game to be more fun instead of pure min-max rub-it-in-your-face assholery. I wish everyone wanted to play that way, to be honest. It's probably the naive "games bring people together for fun experiences" philosophy that I've felt erode in me a bit by playing this game. I love the game, don't get me wrong, but sometimes I lament what this game has eaten away in me.
-
@Milo said:
... People would still use discord? Especially
with the killer never hears the survivorsThere's always going to be edge cases of course. This workaround, Steam voice chat...
But the fact that SWF is in constant 24/7 contact with no penalty is such a stick in the eye it needs SOMETHING to redress the balance. I made this suggestion as a sincere hope for a fix without favoring the killer too much and still retaining the utility for the survivors.
Also, I appreciate you engaging the suggestion sincerely vs. Mr. "lol all red rank killers r trash" right below there.
-
Oh, just thought of another one- whatever Prestige Level you are, you generate Perks of that level or higher.
