Make 2v8 permanent, at least in its current state, and the knock on effects it causes will kill DBD entirely. Not straight away but it'll happen.
-
Have just seen a load of stuff about this on twitter. Looks very abusable and once a big creater makes a video on this, get ready for hex builds all over the place! Will probably get changed pretty quickly if it becomes a big problem.
-
Were the escapes on the newer version of Ormond? It may be that it only triggers on the original map?
-
I've yet to try him out since the changes but reading what they've done, I'm very happy I got the Evil Incarnate trophy the day before 2v8 started. That looks even harder to do now.
-
And then you'd end up with full sweat killers in 2v8 just shooting across the map to tunnel out survivors because it's pretty easy to predict the cages spawns. If no survivors had arrived yet they'd learn the distance to proxy camp in no time. It was already happening a lot this week in the few matches I played and was the same the last few days of the first 2v8. And as it was pretty much low ranked survivors as half the lobbies, gens weren't getting done whilst the killers concentrate on one person.
It happens in every game I've played previously that tries making a casual type mode. Sweats will just go to stomp no matter using whatever the meta tactics are and the mode would probably fail or end up no different to solo queue in 1v4.
-
I agree. It'll be a game thrower in solo queue and any decent swfs with good game sense won't need to use it. Maybe duos might find a use for it but that's it I reckon.
-
Scenes when BHVR shut down 1v4 and then think, wait a minute, we have zero revenue from selling killers and perks because you can't use any of them in 2v8! Sounds like a sound financial decision.
-
I tried playing it for a couple of challenges that in theory should be easier in 2v8. Every game is just killers tunnelling the easy to predict cage spawns. Whilst stupid survivors ran about doing everything but touch gens. Was about as fun as getting teeth pulled. Seemed that all the sensible survivors have stopped playing and every game was a stomp. Thank goodness for hatch!
This is the experience BHVR see fit to destroy queue times for. Insane. In three years of playing this game, this was the single worst experience I've ever had on it.
-
Being in my forties, X Files with Mulder, Scully and as killer Alex Krycek with a Eugene Tooms legendary skin would be great!
Walking Dead with Rick Grimes with Negan as killer!
Also just finishes watching Breaking Bad and El Camino last night whilst I'm on a break from the game until 2v8 goes away. Could get behind maybe Jesse Pinkman and Skylar as survivors maybe with a Gus Frings missing half his face or Hector Salamanca in his chair with the bell as his power somehow! Don't ask me how it would work though!
-
Occasional weekends would be way better, even one week is way too long for the huge lack of variety the mode has.

what makes it fun?
it trivializes or outright removes most of the exciting parts of this game like chase or overall game strategy. in chase there's too many resources while killers always have an option to group up to remove any chance you have to last. I ran into a bunch of deathslinger abusers and this isn't enjoyable in the slightest.
On killer side, despite all the ######### you can do, you still can't stop generators from being completed as they take very little time investment to be done, are often doubled&tripled and to add insult to injury survivors also have a class that can ramp up gen speeds even further.
Catch up mechanic that exists for both sides is unsurprisingly unimpactful. It makes the bar red or yellow which is funny, I guess, but that's about it. +-5% for each gen / hook is not having any visible effect.
Despite the fact there are two killers, you get twice as little action because they rarely commit (unless they're from really low mmr) by themselves and drop chase the moment they see anyone else unless you're a really easy target, while all you do otherwise is hold m1 on gens, run up to cages that conveniently spawn near you or heal.
Nothing in this gamemode feels rewarding or earned, you just play very dumbed down, unmanageable, uneventful and unbalanced (some-#########-how) version of the game.
I guess people like power tripping or are that desperate to play with their friend on killer because I don't see the appeal otherwise. If the base game was just like that, I wouldn't have played it for 8 years.
Probably the best summary of 2v8 I've seen. It is basically watered down DBD that was fun for a day or two each time for me. For two weeks, and three weeks last time, it has destroyed queue times in both modes for killer, and matches in normal 1v4 are pretty much total stumps one way or the other as the MMR feels like it is very loose to compensate for the queues.
2v8 has little to no variety gameplay wise and, for me, it has massively overstayed its welcome both times. I hope what happened last time doesn't happen, where people were instantly dc'ing as soon as they heard the Huntress's lullaby in 1v4 because they were sick to death of playing against her.
As others have said, bots aren't the way. That's a very dangerous road to go down to flesh out lobbies and would probably kill the game pretty quickly, as it has every other pvp game I can think of apart from Fortnite.
Only compromise I can think of for 2v8 would be to have it for a weekend occasionally, maybe every couple of months at the absolute maximum. Having your game compromised like it has been for the 5 weeks of 2v8 isn't good at all. The amount of people simply not playing at all until the mode finishes isn't a good position to be in for the games overall health.
-
Any game that only has one or two different modes and needs to use bots to fill lobbies has a major problem. The devs need to be very careful with 2v8 or it could be the downfall of DBD.

I bet if they did a poll the vast majority of players would want 2v8 extended. It's only the small minority of 1v4 killer mains who want it to end.
I play probably 80-20 survivor and I can't wait for it to end. It's boring, repetitive and with no variety whatsoever, it's doing more and more damage to the game the longer it stays. Was fun for an evening but is essential DBD lite and not enjoyable at all now.

For anyone without any empathy in the matter though know that for someone who's enjoyed this game since release & actively wants to play this with his friends having FUN this game can be that win or lose, the things that can annoy people are the parts to this game that are getting out of hand & that are horribly unfortunate to deal with. Not every player needs to learn to loop & shouldn't have to. Not every player has great coordination, & not every player should be expected to just play something else because they in your eyes clearly suck to much. The "sucks to suck" mentality is what sucks most.
This is the part of your text that surprises me the most. To me, 2vs8 is a lot more casual than 1v4 and is precisely what makes it so much more fun. I see it as the solution from BHVR for the many people who asked for a split between "casual" and "competitive" queues. I genuinely wish it would stay permanently.
It is of course fine to not like this mode but if you played only 5 games and your reasoning is that it's too hard, I think you might just have had an unlucky experience, because I'd argue the goal of this mode is the exact opposite. Here's mine (played about 50 games on each side):
- On survivor side this mode is incredibly more chill than 1v4. No MMR, basekit protections against tunneling, slugging and camping, games feel a lot closer, and because gens go so fast you still have a lot of time to meme with survivors and loot chests without throwing the game. The chase game is easier because of all the pallets on the map, and this is where I'm surprised by your "Sucks to suck" point - the mode is the most beginner-friendly DBD has ever been: there are only 8 killer powers to learn, no perks, and no MMR. Tunneling still happens but was very uncommon in my experience, in the future it might become more common but for now I'd say you were really unlucky if you had that happen in 2 games.
- On killer side the queue times are a huge issue and almost invalidate the mode I'd say. But the gameplay once it happens, is fun, because it's basically just chases and it's what I like the most, one QoL I really appreciate is the time gained by NOT having to carry survivors to hooks anymore. It might get eventually stale at some point but to me the possibility to play with my friend makes up for it for now. In solo queue you'll likely not do more than 3-4 kills as your teammate will usually be incompetent, but you'll still do tons of BPs, and as long as you accept that it's soloQ and a casual mode, it'ss very chill as well.
Something I've observed is that the quality of the games varies a lot depending on the day of the week and hour at which you play. This is true on every game I've played. If you've only played 5 games, probably give it a few more tries, your experience might completely change the next time you try it. In my case, I don't think I'll go back to 1v4.
This is the problem that this mode has caused. Absolutely no dig at you, everybody is more than entitled to their opinions, but if this mode was made permanent, that would be the beginning of the end. The current queue times are unsustainable. You would have to go down the bot route to fill lobbies and that would be the worst thing that could possibly happen for DBD.
Also this mode is causing divides in the community outside of the usual survivor vs killer stuff. For me, 2v8 gets very boring within a couple of days due to the complete lack of variety in killers and general gameplay. Now it's people saying they can't go back to 1v4 or like me, are barely playing until 2v8 goes away. The whole thing is harming the overall health of the game. It's like BHVR have opened Pandora's box with 2v8.
It's be great if there was a way both modes could coexist but it just isn't possible. I can't wait for it to go away again and I pray they don't extend it again. Just hope when it's back to just 1v4 and the new chapter releases, it isn't like last time with people instantly dc'ing against the killers they faced to death in 2v8 and people just ruining matches for both sides by killing themselves straight away for no apparent reason.
The Christmas event needs to be decent to help smooth everything out until 2v8 comes back again and blows the game apart for weeks once again.
-
It's dying a painful death. Sitting in lobbies with 6 survivors and 2 killers all ready to go and no survivors join for 2 minutes on the day the 2nd tome is released is all you need to know. And 150% BP bonus isn't going to solve anything. Scouts and Escapists running to the killer to get killed just so they can complete the two challenges to play a match using those classes.
Another week of this to go as well. It's just harming the game at this point.
-
2v8 will be what kills DBD if they bring it as a permanent game mode or do it more than for two weeks at a time twice a year. The only way would be to bring in bots and we really don't want to go down that road. It just about works with a handful of them in a 100 player Fortnite lobby, but in much smaller DBD lobbies it would be the end.
-
Yesterday I was already seeing survivor lobbies start to fill up more slowly. Since Tuesday they've been instantly at 8.
The problem is the mode gets boring very quickly. As last time, it was fun for a day or two but the same killers over and over and same 4 classes over and over equals no variety or depth.
With perks you have almost infinite combinations available if you wish and you have to think way more in the normal mode. 2v8 is DBD lite. 400% bonus couldn't keep a lot of people interested last time, less this time certainly won't. I can't wait for the mode to end and really hope it isn't extended for 3 weeks again like last time so we can get back to the normal mode again with normal queue times.
As last time
-
I'm not waiting fror 15-20 minutes to play killer and I've got bored with playing survivor in 2v8 so I'm back to the main game. Will go back to do the second tome but that's it.
It's just a watered down version and as happened the first time, it has got pretty boring for me pretty quickly. Killer times on the normal mode were about two minutes last night so not too bad.
-
It won't be long until it's just Billy and Blight zooming across the map searching for cages or survivors recently rescued from them. It's what happened last time once killers caught on to how the cages spawn. Fully expect that to happen again, and as per the earlier post a bit above this, it's looks like it might already be starting to happen. Blight and especially Billy will excel at it.
-
I've played 17 games also. Didn't keep track of what killers I faced though. Escaped in 15 of them. One was a hatch escape, the other escapes were pretty much landslides for the survivor team with at least 6 escapes.
The hatch escape was on the Chapel map where we heavily 3 genned ourselves. Overall though it's been a procession in the survivors favour.
Killer wise, the vast majority of matches contained Huntresses just like last time. But the most deadly duo, not surprisingly seemed to be Blight and Billy. They seem way more powerful than all the others. One Billy was just going around downing everyone very quickly. He is going to be a menace the next couple of weeks. I'm not sure what it is but the others just can't seem to keep up with how quickly gens go and the size of the maps. They just can't pressure enough against 8 survivors.

Can you even give up in cages?
That's a good point! I'm always careful not to step on Pyramid heads trails so I'm not sure and haven't played as him yet. You can certainly miss skill checks on the second stage though.

You think there was MMR in the last version? It didn't seem to be activated to me because I got some pretty new Killers and Survivors in a lot of my games. I was even able to max out my boldness points in a few trials by looping the Killers (this almost never happens in my regular games).
Towards the end of the event the mode started to feel a lot sweatier though. It stopped being so fun after the strategy of double teaming Survivors emerged and there was nothing you could really do against that.
Yeah, that and the fact killers worked out how the cages spawned and the quicker ones would show up at the opposite side of the map to interrupt the unhook. This won't get any better with Blight in it and Billy also able to insta down now. This will happen straight away rather than a week or so in like last time. I really have a bad feeling about this 2v8.
The first time I enjoyed it for 2 days, this time killer queues will be probably as bad if not worse and survivor will be boring very quickly without being able to create an infinate number of different builds to play around with.
-
Enjoyed it for about a day or two maximum last time. Got old extremely quickly for me with the complete lack of variety it had. I'll give it a chance but will likely be a couple of week break for me from the DBD grind if queue times are destroyed in the normal mode.
It's a shame because during the Halloween sale I found out I'd managed to accumulate nearly £30 store credit on the PlayStation Stars thing on the phone app. Bought 7 or 8 licensed characters I didn't have with £20 of Auric Cells and was enjoying using my new survivor perks in builds and new killers. Even managed to get the Myers Evil Incarnate achievement last night, as well as his adept!
-

I'm not sure about the changes they made.
For example the haste they added always tend to break the game.
Also full power Billy and Blight in one team? I'm not looking forward to that. That combo in the same match with two people playing together that know what they are doing will just be mass suicide on hook/cage!
-
Not excited at all. Three weeks, if they extend it again, of awful queue times in the normal game mode and as killer in 2v8 for something that is boring within a couple of days as survivor.
I'll give it a chance, hopefully there's more variety this time, but if not it will be a break from the game for me till it goes. Just happy that I managed to do the Myers Evil Incarnate trophy lasr night before it gets even harder to do!
-
The average age of gamers is probably going up and up as time goes on. I'm 45 and started in the mid 80s. Probably a lot of people my age and higher that have grown up with it and won't stop. It helps me relax when I'm not working, being a dad or playing sport.
-
High chance that they've stream sniped him bringing all that. Very unlikely they do that in a normal lobby.
-
When I play killer, I always hook the 2nd survivor left. Couldn't care less if I get either a 4k or a 3k and hatch escape. It's a win whatever so let's just get on with the next match. There's absolutely no meaningful prize for getting 4k at all. Not going to hold someone on the ground and waste their time for up to 4 minutes for a few more bloodpoints when I can make those bloodpoints or more anyway in the same amount of time at the start of another game. Dragging out games like this is just so pointless.
-
It happens to all games with MMR at some point in their life cycle.
You go into a game to have fun. The other side is going all out for the win, full meta. You think, screw that, and next game take more meta stuff. The other side gets stomped trying to have fun and next game they go more sweaty. Rinse and repeat.
-
I had one of those bots yesterday on The Game as Trickster. Two survivors immediately dc'd. It came down to a bot and a survivor.
I communicated to the real survivor that I wouldn't kill them and soon found the bot. It got right into the downstairs corner of the map behind a staircase and was basically uncatchable. It knew where I was so was always in the right position when I tried to double back. I had to back iff and let it go somewhere else where it was easy to down. The guy I let out must have wondered what on earth I was doing chasing it for so long!
-
There should only be a give up button when there are only hooked survivors and a slugged person.
Played two games so far today and both times I've been slugged for the killer to find the last person, they get hooked and just stay on the hook hitting skill checks. Both times just waiting forever just for that person to eventually die on hook so they can use the free mori. Just a pointless waste of time. Can be even worse when the survivor on hook is a bot on their first hook. They don't go for the 4%!
A stupid mechanic that needs reverting back.
-
The survivors I play with in solo queue on the whole seem to know what to do. Sure you get the occasional one that doesn't do anything that registers on the HUD or very occasionally someone letting everyone else die on hook, stood in the corner holding a key.
The biggest problem isn't the skill of survivors for me, it's the ones that just kill themselves when they're the first hooked or when they see what killer it is, just stand there to get downed and then kill themselves. This happens way too often and just instantly ruins the game. I see it when playing killer also for no apparent reason and I hate it because it just makes the match a complete waste of time. Why bother even playing at that point?
It needs addressing big time because it is slowly killing the game for a lot of people.
-
I'm not looking forward to it at all. Completely messed up queue times for 3 weeks last time and I got sick of playing it after about 3 days. Got so boring for me so quickly. Was no depth or variety at all, just wall to wall Huntress for 3 weeks. Only good thing was that it made some of the old tome challenges a lot easier to complete.
Won't be playing DBD very much once it arrives until it goes away again.
-
It needs sorting, but I have no idea how you stop people doing it. Just spoils so many matches, mostly for absolutely no reason at all. Sick of seeing it happen now.
Also was playing as The Unknown on a Cold wind map the other day and found two people on gens. Instead of running away, they just let me down them and killed themselves on hook. The other two I just messed around with occasionally hitting them with UVX and letting them clear it, and let them do gens while kicking pumpkins and firing haunts at them so they could heal. Also gave them some pallet stuns. Somehow I ended up with 220k blood points after the match, before the daily and tone challenge I also did. Both the survivors got 80k.
Playing normally after 2 instant suicides is totally pointless as killer in my eyes.
-
The rare times I actually play a game against her, there is always one or two survivors that just seem to ignore the video tapes and condemned system and die needlessly.
Whenever I play killer, I seem to play against players that are either obviously playing together or individuals that know ever safe loop and evasion tactic specific to whatever killer I am. I guess at present she basically has very little chance against these types of players but casual survivors that don't really know what's happening get absolutely stomped?

Wasn't original sadako super hated cause of that one pump Willie playstyle ring drawing addon slugging strat
That was horrific to play against in solo queue. Do not miss that at all.
-
The most frustrating killer playstyle to play against to me. Knockout is an obnoxious perk.
Luckily I haven't played again it much recently. Only time during the event was a Nemesis using sloppy to slow down the pick ups. Fortunately I was using Botany Knowledge, Strength In Shadows, Inner Focus and Sprint Burst. The new Inner Focus gives aura reading of the killers location for 6 seconds whenever a survivor loses a health state so was easy to find the slugged survivors and battle through sloppy with Botany. We all got out. Was just a happy coincidence I was testing out the rework to Inner Focus and had Botany otherwise I have no doubt we all would have died early.
Also, nothing was worse than the teleport spamming Sadako of a year or 18 months ago using Knockout and Third Seal with the add on that spread condemned to survivors when they interacted. Game would go on for ages and eventually everyone would die if it was full solo queue. Thank god they changed that!
-
I was doing that gen yesterday and noticed that. Luckily the killer didn't show up and I did the gen and got out of there. Fully expect a post somewhere of a killer body blocking a survivor in there for an hour at some point soon (If the stairs aren't too wide to do it that is).
-
I started playing in November 2021 about the time when boons were pretty new and Artist was released. It was difficult to learn what survivor perks did and recognising killer perks back then but I have no idea how someone new could start playing now on their own like I did. The sheer number of killers, maps and different perks to deal with must put so many off.
With how inconsistent MMR seems to be even the worst killers must destroy new players on the game in solo queue, god forbid the new players end up going against experienced killer in backfill lobbies. An absolute steamrolling that would scare away a lot of people surely?
-
Earlier this week I played as Artist to grind the 50 downs with dire crows trophy. The amount of free bird swarms I got when a survivor had outplayed me at structures or any other sort of cover was ridiculous. Flushes them to run out into the open and made downing a survivor a lot easier countless times. Also caught a good few sneaking into lockers.
It's not a healthy perk. Why should I be rewarded for my bad play? I only used it because I knew it would make the trophy a lot easier but overall it makes no sense.
-
I grinded the 50 downs with crows Artist trophy the past couple of days and finished it last night. It was so weird. Ghost hits that didn't register, swing with my weapon from 1 inch away somehow not hitting the person directly in front of me and running in a straight line, getting pallet stunned whilst being nowhere near the pallet. The whole thing is not unplayable but extremely inconsistent and a bit of a mess.
-

Does that actually work? How often do survivors fall for it? I'm sat on the bus on the way to work and that made me chuckle!
-
Maybe also Gearhead?

Rrobably something like Lethal Pursurer, Floods of Rage, Darkness Revealed and something else long range aura and practice long shots.
My total on that achievement is 0/100!

I disagree it's good for a decent Nurse.
First, you have to lose your survivor. That's a huge assumption when it's based on the Nurse being decent.
Second, I believe it's exactly what "Distortion" is for.
Third, there are way better perks to use in a chase that do not require the Nurse to lose a survivor to be effective.
Time will tell but I as for myself I don't think I'll use it.
I'm not the best against a competent Nurse, but always try to break line of sight ASAP or run to somewhere close where that can be done. The perk now completely takes that away or any chance of playing around a structure. It just tells them where you are with no effort.
I'm planning to play quite a bit this weekend so will be messing with all the reworked perks. Will be interesting to see what happens using and going against them.
-
I was away during the PTB for this and purposely kept off the forums and only started playing again this week after a 3 week total break from the game. As soon as I saw the patch notes I instantly thought that's a huge buff for any half decent Nurse. No doubt the perk won't stay in this state for long because of her.
Before the nerf though, I plan to play Artist to get the down 50 injured survivors with birds trophy. It's been at 10/50 forever. This perk should make it a lot easier!
-
She never ever should have been released in the state she was. As has been pointed out previously, she arrived at the time when Eruption and COB were the meta and people were already extending matches by 3 genning with The Knight. Skull Merchant played into that meta even more, blowing the Knight out the water at it.
I started playing around when Artist was released, and 3 gen matches with SM were miserable. The worst experience imaginable since I've been playing. Most survivors haven't forgotten that. Then she was reworked and her powers changed a couple of times. She produced so many status effects that so many survivors didn't have a clue what was going on and again if you didn't know what was happening, again. it was miserable.
I didn't mind her previous state to this rework, but this is crazy. She never stood a chance of being accepted from the start and don't think that'll ever change; even now!
-
Forgotten Ruins is a horrible map. I like that they tried to do something different but it just doesn't work. Games on it are mostly awful.
-
Sounds like someone that played way too much 2v8 as survivor just because of the 400% blood point bonus despite not really enjoying it and was totally sick of playing against nothing but Huntress for 3 weeks. Now they have developed a hatred for said character due to massive overexposure. Is this accurate?
-
This is probably the worst thing to come across in the game whilst playing solo queue. Hadn't faced it for a long while until I played against a Vecna using it together with Franklin's and Weave. We all got slugged extremely quickly as when someone figured out where the first survivor was he would return and hit them and so soon he had permanent aura reading all around the area where the first survivor was slugged. Didn't take long for everyone to get downed.
Absolutely miserable game that was and hope this doesn't become a regular thing or solo q will be tragic.
