Winter fire crackers are doing it too, I dropped one in a round today and got no hiss, just a bang and a blind.
This isn't the only audio occlusion error, some Killer sounds are messed up. I'm not hearing Ghostface's shifting straps for example (which although funny and beneficial to me as a Ghostface player isn't fair and should be fixed, they should be soft but not that soft) and many Survivors have for a while now had much softer breathing, footsteps, etc. Please normalize Killer and Survivor audio so there are no unfair advantages.
-
I've noticed this on my Nea running Lithe. I do run stealth perks on my Nea, but none that should silence vaults. I notice this on Cheryl too who I also run Lithe on.
-
Agreed. I think more hexes should also move totems as they are lit, so it's harder to find them, like how Two Can Play or Face the Darkness do.
-
I don't care what they add to 2v8 - nothing will make me play it again because none of the Killers I like are in it or ever will be, and I just don't want to play watered down DBD where everyone is turbobuffed.
-
How many times do we have to post this?
Because Invocations are permanent effects that change the game. They're intended to permanently change the game in your favor in exchange for a mere minute of your time in the basement. You can snuff Boons, you can destroy Hexes, but the Killer can do nothing once an Invocation is cast. Because that's the point of Invocations.
Why should we have multiple game-changing, game stacking effects go off together? If you want to have that much game-changing power, then bring your two Invocations and do them. I mean do you really think it's fair to subject a Trapper to forever aura read and also less charges on one gen? I don't think so. That sounds OP to me.
There's an argument to be made for changing the effect doing an Invocation has, like maybe Treacherous Crows shouldn't perma Break you and should perma Blind you instead. But there is none, not one, except "Because I wanna win even harder and be superman against M1s that cannot handle it" for asking for Invocations to stack this way. I mean what if we get an even stronger one and Invocations can stack? Imagine Weaving, Crows, some Invocation that gives permanent 3% Haste, and some Invocation that permanently reduces the Killer's speed by 5% or something. Imagine that. And they all stack.
If they want to do more Invocations in the future, they cannot have them stack. Because four people can bring them and then have a bunch of things stacked in their favor so the Killer can't do ANYTHING. Like it or not, Invocations need to stay unstackable. Or do you want Killers buffed even more to handle the possibility of an Invocation meta? I don't.
Don't buff Invocations by making them stack. Buff them by buffing what they do individually so you only need to take one.
-
I think we shouldn't be judging or balancing Killers, perks, Survivor playstyles, or strength of anything based on how well Streamers that are good enough to streak are able to play the game. Those people are outliers.
Same goes for tierlists - they're stupid, they confuse the average player into thinking some perfectly balanced Killers are "too weak/strong", and they don't judge based on average players at average capability instead judging at peak of perfection against the kind of comp SWFs you rarely ever to never see.

Also bhvr has been touching these killers so hopefully they get more changes in 2025. Base kit ourple chili for bubba , basekit partial brown addons for Ghostface, upcoming freddy rework, and Myers buffs are all good things that helped these legends.
I think it's very likely, these minor changes don't fix the glaring issues they have. They're a wonderful start but I think Ghostie in particular could get a bit more.
-
Well when I play Survivor I just want fun and some BP and to hang with my friends, I don't even wanna win that hard unless I am doing an adept. I genuinely assume the point of Survivor is to queue up with friends and die in hilarious dumb ways over and over.
If I actually want to try to win, I just go play Killer.

If you're casual, the game ought to be putting you with casuals. This is a failure of the MMR system.
I agree, both sides. I like being able to choose mercy sometimes. I like killing as many or few as I want, I like getting Killers to interact. I am sick of feeling like I have to genrush or push super hard from the word go to get anything done.
-
Hopefully they have a plan to make things like Ghostface's reveal more fair and consistent both sides, then. I'm sick of being seen through walls.

How people seem to believe if you play Killer, you are a monster IRL and deserve scorn, abuse, and more nerfs.

It's not about making dbd easier for a casual audience. It's about restructuring the core gameplay to be more player friendly oriented.
Disincentivise getting a survivor out ASAP. Introduce an early game mechanic so that gens don't fly in the first minute. Rework / change the outliers in terms of strength (Killers like Nurse, Trapper; addons like syringe, bnp; items like maps). Reevaluate map design across the board.
These are just a few aspects that would need to be looked at in order to make dbd more player friendly.
Sadly I don't see this happen any time soon, if at all. It take a lot of commitment and time to do this and after 8 years I can understand that BHVR is unwilling to change their game this drastically.
I see, and I hear and agree with all of that. Pardon my aggression there, it's late for me and I wasn't exactly right. My bad. :)

As someone who prefers Killer more, and as someone who will defend the use of leaving downs as pressure in the right situation… yes. Knockout is unhealthy. it promotes the BAD kind of Slugging for pressure, not the kind of pressure where you leave someone down to say, chase another Survivor who was nearby or do it to get someone off a gen or bait a save. Knockout isn't that. Knockout is a perk that encourages four man slugging by hiding Downed Survs from other Survs, AND prolonging the misery of the downed Surv. There's never any legitimate reason to leave a Survivor down for four full minutes until Bleedout on purpose. On accident because you lost your slug or they crawled away to hide is one thing, but NEVER on purpose. Ever. And that's what this perk is for.
It needs a change, any change. But not what it currently is now.

If you stack the odds in your favor, in any way, you are not chill, you are sweating.
If you intentionally stack them as much as possible with the intent of winning, sure. But when I load up DBD with 3 friends who barely play and we are on comms cracking jokes, I'm chilling out and hoping they have fun without being tunneled as they don't look behind themselves in chase and don't know anything about the game. I'm stacking the odds in my favor by being in a full SWF with comms but I'd argue that is still chill. Intent matters.
I'd say in a similar vein, running a shoulder/BT/babysitter/reassurance build is chill while running UB/deli/DS/OTR is sweaty despite both being very strong. But how you play matters more imo.
I think you kneejerked, I was not in any way referring to friend SWFs on Discord. I was referring to a specific kind of four man thta goes in with multiple map offerings and the best stuff every time. If that's not you, then it's not something you should be offended by, because my statement wasn't aimed at you. :)
-
I stop playing 2v8 every time even though I like the mode because I literally don't enjoy waiting 20 minutes for a game is lesser DBD and lasts for five minutes. I went on hiatus from the game after three days this time because I got bored of Surv and could not get into a game as Killer in either mode within a reasonable amount of time.
I don't like feeling like I can't play the game I paid for, with the Killers I enjoy, because I have to wait forever and my Killers will never be in the mode. There will never be Pinhead, Sadako, Ghostface, Nemesis, or Myers in 2v8. Why would I bother playing when I have to play Killers I don't enjoy in rounds I have to wait half an hour for that last like 5 minutes? Literally what is in it for me? Nothing.
The mode splits the base too much and creates horrendous knock-on effects for the Killer wait times. It cannot be permanent. I'd rather it just be its own game.
-
Because the point of the game isn't to be superman, and the bots are programmed like that. The point is to avoid the Killer, so Bots are programmed to avoid the Killer.
Oftentimes, poorly.

If you're going to play chill, you need to be comfortable losing sometimes (if not all the time). This goes for both sides.
This is it.
If you truly "play chill" and "aren't sweaty", that means you CANNOT also hold the idea thta you deserve to always win/escape. Like, you can't be running a ton of Meta if you really are playing chill.
And a lot of people say they are a chill SWF or Killer, then don't actually play chill.
If you stack the odds in your favor, in any way, you are not chill, you are sweating.

Ghostface isn't as weak as you might think in chase. He's not intended to BE chase, but he has capability in chase to create hesitation moments that really only checkspotting counters.
For one, he can use crouch especially if running Leather Sheath in a way that creates situations where he's hard to see, like Chucky. For another, a lot of Survivors rely on the red stain to handle chase around 50/50s. Hiding your Red Stain in chase makes it much harder to read you around 50/50s, which means the Survivor can't tell where you're at.
His hitbox, a bit like with Sadako, is slightly smaller, so he can hug walls a bit more (not as much as Chucky can but it's similar). Has to do with his Lean mechanic. If you get close to walls and especially if you crouch, it can make you really hard to notice.
Really the only issue you should ever be having as Ghostface in chase is with strong and god pallets, or with checkspots. Everything else is just mindgames, proper Shroud use, and crouching if you have Leather Sheath on. If you don't run Leather Sheath, then don't use the crouch as that only slows you down. You can even create dangerous situations in strong tiles like Shack or strong Mains this way. Now that he basically has basekit Walleye's Matchbook, it's easier than ever to use Shroud in chase like this, and fun too!
Some maps have sound effects that hide or obscure Ghostface's in-Shroud noises. Amplify this effect by running cosmetics that have fewer straps or flaps, and less bright masks. Survivors are looking for the straps and mask, and listening for the rustling. Minimize those. The Stealthiest I have found are Bush Hunter, Scarecrow mask, any non white mask, and Classic Robes (though the latter won't work on bright maps like Coldwind).
Just like in real life, consider areas of shadow and light. The direction of lights on some maps can give you away. You can slide with the Lean around corners a bit, I've heard this referred to as Ghost-Surfing.
Knowing when to drop chase, hang back and stalk is critical to playing him right. 99ing and "milking stalk" while someone tries to reveal around a corner IS intentional and IS the intended play. That's not a bug or glitch, he's supposed to be able to duck behind objects to stop a reveal so he can gain a little bit more stalk.
Being Revealed isn't all bad, it gives you info and it's expected you might be revealed some of the time. You can use the Reveal to find Downed Survs who crawl away, or Survs who try to hide in corners to deny the hatch and prolong the game. You can use the Killer Instinct to track and predict where people are going. If you find you're having a bad Reveal day (which happens!), consider running addons that give you a benefit on being Revealed - Night Vision Lens is a good one since it counters problem perks like Sprint Burst or Finesse.
Ghostface is one of the only Killers for which Proxying a hook is acceptable behavior in order to gain stalk. He's also one of the few Killers punished for lurking too much around hooks or a slug down. If a Ghostface is doing this, they are either stalking you or they're an idiot who doesn't know how to play him.

Why should they? I 100% understand why there is an mmr - system in this game. We have to thank our ever growing comp-scene for that. It started many years ago and continues to this day.
The emblem system rewarded a more fun match over fast kills. I still think its better than what we have today.
I agree with you, and I just wanna flip this though… why SHOULDN'T BHVR change it to make it easier for the casual set?
-
If you have two people downed like this you have no need to go find and close the hatch, just kill them instead of wasting everyone's time.

So bp don't matter?
If a bubba goes for the 4man slug at 4 gens, everyone gets like 3k bp and that's it.
Moreover, what about having an own mind? I don't care about mmr. What does it lead to? If my mmr is high I meet more people that are sweating. Sweating in dbd does often not mean skill but stronger equipment. Why would I want to make my game progressively more stupid? At some point it's not difficulty or a challenge, it just becomes impossible due to how big the power discreptency is. It's the limit of a killer.
I make my own incentives and my incentive is having fun.
Screw mmr.
I agree, I prefer to make my own goals too, but the problem seems to be that BHVR does not see it that way.

I'm getting real sick of being cucked by Reveal because of high ping on my side, someone else's side, etc. getting me seen through solid walls.

Are we seriously complaining about the C tier Doggo Killer who JUST got a bunch of much needed buffs?
Learn her counterplay like with every other Killer. Or is minorly buffed Ghostface, buffed Myers, Demo's quicker portals, Trapper getting a little haste from trap setting, etc. too spicy for you, too?

The fact that people call me survivor main in threads like this and killer main in othere where I talk about the other side kind of reassures me that I do play both sides enough to actually know the pain points of both sides.
I will edit the post so it is more obvious what I meantThat seems to be the trend: If you dare defend Killers and criticize Survs too much you're a Killer Main, but if you criticize Killers too much and seem to ignore how Survivors can be problematic, you're a Survivor Main. I once had the dubious designation of being a Killer Main on Reddit but a Survivor Main on Youtube. Brother I posted my videos to Reddit before I stopped using Reddit,

Speaking as someone who has this Killer in my rotating roster, Pinhead IS just a fancy M1 Killer.
His chases go long. His chains are more for hindering, nothing else. The Box can be just as much taken hostage and used against him as he can use it against Survivors. He doesn't really "rely on SoloQ not knowing what to do", his counter is there, it's just harder to coordinate against a Killer that requires teamwork if you're not all working as a team together. Something that happens often in SoloQ.
We cannot, should not, and must not change Killers and their playstyles based on them having counters that people find too hard. Rather we should educate how to play against those Killers better instead. It starts with teaching people to go for the Box in this case as if he has no control on the Box, he basically has no passive slowdown and is just a fancy M1 Killer with a hindering tool.
Your title here is nonsensical, OP. Because Pinhead IS an M1, so you're not actually saying "M1 Pinhead should not be allowed". You're actually saying, "Pinhead shouldn't be in the game." And that's not a fair thing to say about a high B low A tier Killer that maybe 2% of people play to the maximum of his capabilities, because he's finicky and difficult and not a lot of people like his gameplay loop. If anything, Pinhead could use a pass on his power, his chains, his addons, his gameplay loop, and more - all as BUFFS and FIXES to issues he has to make him more enjoyable to play as well as vs.
-
It's Survivors too.
People posting threads like this always seem to forget that.
Everyone's doing it, Killers are not inherent sinners here any more than Survs are saintly saints.
-
I think it's a non issue mostly, but I would like the kick limit changed in one way - perks that pop gens don't cause it to happen until only 2 gens are left. Period.
I also think it's time to address toolbox speeds on some boxes, and how for some reason toolboxes can still stack with perks. There's a lot more Survs can do right now to crush gens that Killers can't do, remove progress on, or avoid. It feels a bit unfair.
-
That skin was bugged. It wasn't supposed to be a pay to win skin at all.
Are the "pay to win skin users" in the room with us right now?
-
Reminder there are perks that are useful for Killer involving chests, too. Human Greed for example. Dominance. Perks that give info based on items in chests like Weave Attunement.
You WANT Survivors to do other things besides gens. Adding one more chest means they have a chance to do something that isn't a gen, giving you 8 precious seconds of them NOT doing gens and possibly proccing something you brought.
I do think more chests should have a chance to be empty or spawn something less useful, though. I also like the idea of more booby trapped chests like with Vecna's mimics.

Five minutes.
Can we please stop asking BHVR to hard nerf Killers we don't like into the ground under the excuse that they're "too strong and unbeatable"…
FOR FIVE MINUTES?!

But you can't design the game around the last survivor being helpless, either.
The moment you can secure a 3k, you've already won. The last one escaping isn't a big deal.
This is also very true. Once you have that 3k it's not entirely that hard to get the 4k if you push hard. Again, the game counts "a win" as being "killing one survivor/escaping one killer", so winning or losing a 1v1. It then amalgamates all four 1v1s to see how many points you get and determine a Killer "ranking " (that is, Entity Hungers, Brutal, Ruthless, Merciless). While Killers just have to see how many 1v1s they can win by eliminating the Surv (therefore they can win up to four times a round), the Survivor has to escape the Killer without being eliminated to win.
So if anything, Killers get much more leeway on whether or not they won any amount of the game at all, but Survivors are judged on if they lost or not more harshly. That's probably why some people are so angry Survivors don't "win" as much as Killers, it's because for Survivors it's binary but for Killers it's a scale between 0-4… and you therefore, only lose as Killer if you 0k.
tl;dr - Killer is a mode about being in a canned deer hunt, where you have four deer, and you're supposed to eliminate as many as you can. Survivor is a party mode about trying to escape with your friends, or die trying. Killer is the more complex "combo rush" mode but Survivor is the simplified "arcade mode" where you're supposed to try and either win or lose. Killer is "do your best", Survivor is "survival horror in a setting where the odds are against you".
And that's what people don't get, I think. -
I love being a Santa Surv. :) I do it with Cheryl though.

I think part of the issue is that a win/loss isn't clearly identified after the match so a win is up to the individual to interpret it as a win. For example some feel 3k is a win based on MMR going up as a result. Some feel 4k is a win based on the bonus BP and achievements 4k results in. Some even believe 2k against a 4man swf is a win as they stopped the whole team getting out. Survivor are the same, some teams believe they win by getting everyone out. Some believe they win via hatch (even tho it doesn't count positively for MMR) some even believe it's a win if they can simply loop the killer the whole match and be the sole survivor. Some people believe a win is getting most BP score post match regardless if they survived or not.
I'm not sure BHVR should clearly define a win then, but should make it so ALL those are equal ways of "winning" so nobody feels like "less" of a player and the game feels less competitive-minded. If it's a party game like they want, then all these ways of winning should be equally valid and DISPLAYED as such.

eh.. youre still ignoring how the game is designed.. its only your problem as survivor if you cant win, rly.. the killer's job is to kill every survivor before they escape.. 3 kills is not win
Judging by how pips are calculated actually, yeah, a 3k is a win. You're incorrect. If it ups your MMR and pips you, then it's a win. The definition of a win is "not a tie or a loss". A 2k is a tie, and a 1k is considered a loss.
But reminder - the game calculates kills itself as a 1v1 against an individual Survivor. So a 1k is also a win on that one Survivor. You're not judged for how many you Kill necessarily, the game sees a 1k as 1 win and a 4k as 4 wins. You're just supposed to Kill as many as you can or want to, not "kill 'em all". That's a holdover from when you could lose pips. You can't anymore.

It's both sides my friend.
The player base is out for blood for some reason I don't understand.
I can tell you why.
Survivors: The game is miserable now! I want to win too! I'm tired of everything good being nerfed for us despite the fact they might deserve to be because they are in fact too strong, those perks were fun and I like doing things that make me impossible to catch in some situations, Killers should just git gud and play around my second chance perks. Come on guys - let's SWF up and play with these new perks, it's all these tunneling, camping, slugging Killers deserve despite the fact they may or may not even be doing that at all! Let's ruin their games because they keep ruining ours!
Killers: The game is miserable now! I want to win too! They've taken away a bunch of pressure from gens, hooks, injury pressure, chase, and nerfing Killers I play, why should I play nice? Every time I do, Survivors bring the most obnoxious and nasty perks. I literally meanwhile have to devote half my build to generator perks to even get anywhere. I'm so tired of being nice and getting sweat on and humiliated, I'm supposed to be strong, right? Get 60% kill or I get mocked, right? Now we have these new perks and buffed stuff. Well fine then, it's all these obnoxious entitled Survivors deserve despite the fact they may not even be doing that at all, let me be the villain! Let's ruin their games because they keep ruining mine!
The issue is that both sides are frustrated with the game right now because BHVR keeps on taking things that helped them NOT have to do these things. That's why. -

I genuinely dont know. Getting kills seems to be the only reason for some people to play killer at all.
Because sadly, that's all BHVR incentivizes the Killer to do. :(

funnily enough, the promise of extra points for your performance actually incentivizes people to make the most out of it. hence, that is why people play more offensively during events.
unfortunately there's not much you can do. if players want to perform their best to maximize their gains, you just have to play around it or join the fray. it is a game, after all! This is why I never understood the "BHVR gimmie more BP!" people. Just make BP gain equal across all Survivors and the Killer, and then everyone gets this buff during events. Cancel blood hunts/feasts too because those ALSO just make people sweat.
The reason is, people want their points. They wanna maximize. So take the fun out of that by maxxing it FOR them, and fewer people will care, DC on hook. etc.

@Phenomenal_Ox said:
They said before the reason for slugging is hooks breaking and not respawn and they fix it and they still slug, now it's the hutch fault the devs maybe will fix it and they will still slug, then it will be because survivors perks activate from hooks so they will still slug, there is no amount of fixes to them to stop this bad gameplay they need to punish it.
The maybe the Devs need to stop adding things that make hooking unappealing, because there's multiple perks and survivor tactics that counter slugging like this.
The gameplay is intended, as sometimes there's a tactical reason to leave a down for pressure for a couple seconds to a minute. The problem isn't prolonged downs, it's when people slug so severely they four man down, and leave everyone to bleed for minutes on end without even TRYING to hook. THAT is slugging.

I think mmr and time of the day plays a part in the frequency it happens. As survivor killers have slugged me to get my team mate and also slugged my team mate to hunt for me very often....it happens a lot.
Also I played multiple matches as killer tonight, every single match that it was an option, I slugged the 3rd to find the 4th. 3 of the matches i actively kept the slug alive by carrying them around the map with me. And all 3 times I did this the 3rd survivor had enough and lead me to the 4th survivor to get the match over with. It happens a lot, if you haven't had it happen to you then you have been very lucky lol.
I played at night (the sweatiest time) and I play at decent Survivor MMR. I have done this for two years.
I can count the actual times I have been forcibly truly toxically tunnelled, camped, or slugged like this on one hand. OVER TWO YEARS.
I think you just, like many others, believe certain things that aren't toxic, are. it's an easy mistake to make. If you're really getting this that much, run the perks that help.
-
I think at this point it's just part of the game, is actual gameplay, and the Devs will never address it.
-
My ping's been through the roof randomly since Doomed Course.

Killers don't need to be strong to be likeable, most people are fine with Ghostface and he's not strong, not withstanding the people who get butthurt over the Reveal screwing them over when it screws him over just as much.
