I'm tired of gens blowing up its so annoying I hope they remove it, its fine on maybe one perk like Eruption but this game already has a problem with incessant loud random noises; gen explosions don't need to be there too.
-
I don't like spending bloodpoints on killer.

They have shown before that a large amount of negative feedback can end up having changes expedited. A lot of people universally hate the Skull Merchant's 3 Gen playstyle, and she is so good at it that it's caused BHVR to evaluate options as to how to prevent these excessively long matches with a base mechanic.
I think the whole fiasco with that one game with Eternal, and the wave of feedback that was sparked because of it, might have put her more on their radar too.
There's no way to say for sure though, none of us work there.
I agree and for me personally, I'd rather have things like Player Cards vs a Skull Merchant Rework (both ideally) simply because there are already tools to deal with SM games (forbidden or otherwise,) but there are no alternatives to new features/content.
Its definitely not outside the realm of possibility.

I have zero clue how this could be unforseen. killers take a year to make and somehow nobody thought that this was a bad idea.
I hesitate to say filler chapter because I'm sure the production and manpower costs were equivalent to any other chapter, but ToT def feels like it was a filler chapter that they expected people to forget about, even compared to End Transmission it just feels oddly soulless and uninspired.

I'd imagine she's going to get bumped up the priority list due to the number of complaints about her.
Meh, as much as I detest her, putting myself in BHVR's shoes for a moment, is fixing her really that important? She's not exactly super popular playwise, and I doubt people are quitting the game a lot over her (at least not more than other stuff.)
Telling their dev teams to stop working on already established projects to suddenly start working on a killer rework, something that I'd imagine takes a lot of money and time, doesn't seem like a smart use of their finite resources. Especially because it would invariably push something they outlined on their Anniversary roadmap off-course.
I'd say her rework will most likely come sometime after the last project they detailed on their roadmap is released or close to that mark.
-
They will but this is probably an unforseen development.
I'd imagine they have a ton of stuff with higher priority so I wouldn't expect anything this year since it's not critical enough to disrupt current workflow.
Next year is a lot more likely since there are probably other early-dev projects they can bump down to put an SM rework in.

the fact you think wesker is skilless is laughable, you've clearly never played him.
I have played him! In low to mid MMR.
Can you tell me what happens when a character with no skill-floor that's strong gets played in low to mid MMR?

Im ok with lobby dodges personally but I do think they should hide ppl prestige levels. Personally, I only dodge .ttv lobbies bc I don't want to play on someone's stream and those matches are always so bad for me. I don't know if it's me psyching myself out or what but I always play so badly if I know one or more survivors are streamers.
That's why I wish I could see the killer's name too tbh, TTVs are the reason I play only on Anon mode because one game someone opened my profile and started making fun of me to their friends, was really weird behavior.
I refuse to play in any lobbies with streamers in it, win or lose I don't want to be someone's content. Too bad on survivor I have no choice and it really bugs me.
Watching the vod of a toxic killer can be fun though since I usually stomp them, but I'd gladly trade it.
-
Ability to dodge lobby should remain intact and you shouldn't be penalized for dodging a lobby.
However, profiles, prestige, and otherwise should be known to all or should be known to no one. I prefer the latter but I already know killer players would overthink the hell out of every lobby and blame their playstyles on stress, so the former is more likely.
-
I'd literally get reported every game if it did.
-
That's how it should be an exactly how we start making the killer take skill.
-
After playing against her for the first time I didn't realize how safe tapes are now, what's the downside to always taking the tape out the TV closest to the gen? Feels like she has to walk everywhere now.
-
We don't need another reason for killers to complain they were outplayed, I like DH flying under the radar right now, I can finally use my favorite perk without every killer forcing a dance-off or staring contest.

I agree I want shirtless portraits pls bhvr ty.

Im just pointing out a large majority of prople disagree wesker is balanced, hell I bet you dome consider him OP, you saying he is balanced or saying if blight gets and addon change he will be balanced does not change the fact that people will still think they are way too strong until we have a billy situation, were now that he has become a joke of a character he is suddendly the most fun thing to verse.
I agree with you im just providing a point that even if we agree on it a large majority of survivor players would rather see Wesker getting heavily nerfed than weaker killers getting buffed as a solution to the variety problem.
Wanting every killer to be A tier sounds terrible. There are so many brainless killers that should never be strong.
Nerfing Wesker's generosity with his power and tunneling ability doesn't actually affect good Weskers because they don't rely on it as a crutch.
It just makes the killer not an obvious choice for noobs who want free wins and gives him a justifiable skill floor for his strength.
-
Well I mean what did we expect? In order to make maps more fair for killers they have to be made worse.
That being said I loved the Azarov rework but this Coldwind one is terrible.
-
The killer ones are worse but Laurie looks pretty bad sorry.
Some of them are good though, Jonah and David look great.

Hours mean nothing, they can all be on other killers or even on survivor. Since he's P3 it is reasonable to assume he's not playing Bubba too often (or at all).
You want killers not to see player prestige so they would commit to desperate games more? I mean, sure, it makes sense for a survivor to want an easy stomp game, easy stomp games are fun when you are not the one being stomped, but I don't feel like only survivors should be taken into account in this scheme.
As opposed to P100 killer streamers lobby shopping until they find survivors outside of their skill range to slaughter for content? Which has happened to my casual friends plenty, to the point where they're scared to queue with me now.
Neither side should be able to see profiles and prestiges or both sides should be able to, its only fair. Especially since you can go on anon mode which I do all the time.

Blight is the most popular killer in my games, i just had post about it. I am so done with this killer and i can't wait finally he gets his deserved nerfs.
I don't want to devs nuke him like Billy. But his busted add-ons should be nuked.
I'm hoping they remove basekit pallet break.

I hate Blight, it does not matter if they are PC or console player. This killer should get his justice as soon as possible, there is no chance against him sadly.
7/10 Blights are terrible and free wins, 2/10 Blights are good enough to make the game a fun challenge, and 1/10 Blights are good enough to where the game ends so fast it doesn't matter.
He needs nerfs, but he's not that miserable to play against imo and its usually quite enjoyable no matter the skill-level of the player. Helps that I actually feel like I get outplayed by decent ones unlike a certain sunglasses wearing cretin.

Like I said in another reply, having constructive criticism about the problems modern killer power design is one thing. The amount of hate sent towards Skull Merchant is another as it isn't even constructive criticism so much as folks talking license to dump on the people who are playing the killer and refusing to even acknowledge the redeeming aspects of the killer as well as the fact that not every Skull Merchant player is going around trying to time out games.
That sort of thing is hard to do though when the most active and loudest voices aren't Skull Merchant players, but people who don't like and don't play Skull Merchant. Thus while they can clearly see the problematic issue which no one who is being reasonable is saying shouldn't be addressed, but they don't have the investment and knowledge base to be constructive.
To say we're way past the days where people hated her for not being Predator simply isn't true. People are focusing their fire on the 3 gen issue because that is more actionable, but it ain't like the people who hated her aesthetically are different from the people who hate her functionally. If that hate were actually constrained to the character rather than often being a springboard combined with the 3 gen issue to paint those of us who play her in a bad light it would easier to believe that this was justified.
It doesn't matter what redeeming aspects she has (if any) because her negatives far, far outweighs the positives. There is nothing significant to be gleaned from saying "yeah but some people play her a stealthy chase killer."
Again, bringing up certain irrational people who dump on the people who play the killer doesn't take away from the fact that the hatred of her is still justified. Those people would do the same thing to anyone playing any killer, and there already plenty of tools to deal with toxic individuals.
Respectfully, SM doesn't even come close to the top 15 killers with the most depth, and you definitely do not have to play her in any capacity to understand how she works. Her design is that egregious to where saying "SM bad" is valid criticism and I don't agree with how you or others are trying to make it seem like only people who play her have an educated opinion on her.
Its no different than saying Bubba has other playstyles besides basement camping, its clear that facecamping is his most popular playstyle and it was problematic enough to where they are adding in an anti-facecamp feature to attempt alleviate it somewhat.
You could argue that SM should be treated the same, but her gameplay is bad enough to where she will always force a 3-gen unless all the gens are spread out in a max distance circle which isn't feasible.
Hating her lore/looks is still just as justified as hating her gameplay because it can be equally as low quality. And in my opinion, a bland character with bland lore and forced sex appeal is just not something I want to see again. Trickster was done far better than her as a normal-looking person with a monstrous underside.

clarifying and re-clarifying that SM players aren't bad people just that the killer sucks
And yet, every time I play as Skull Merchant I get abuse in end game chat. Every time. It doesn't matter that I play SM as a Stealth Killer and my games are over in 10-15 minutes, the hive mind has decided that SM players are evil and the Killer should be deleted..
I've gotten told to off myself while farming as Demogorgon, its not really relevant, as dumb and unwarranted as it is.
Playing a highly-disliked killer will lead to more cases of chat abuse, this is known, either go anon and hide the chat or continue to get free reports on the jerks being mean to you.
It doesn't mean that every time Skull Merchant and her issues are brought up that we have to once again discuss the "what about the SM players" topic for several pages. At least not in my opinion, since not even the more adamant posters I've seen here have disrespected the players at large.

@o7o said:
Don't know why this is still being dragged out, we all know and can agree after that 50 minute scrim, her playstyle is busted.
Yes, depending on the situation, it can be the survivors fault for not breaking a 3 gen and working together, however;
Her power offers nothing but an unhealthy playstyle that's not fun for either side. It's not always the survivors fault for getting 3 genned. If an SM is going to 3 gen, they are going to 3 gen, and they probably are not going to leave that 3 gen leaving it to be a boring match and battle of attrition.
The hate towards the killer is deserved, primarily because of design flaw that allows her power to be abused and drag games out. The killers design really offers nothing but a boring playstyle. Don't get why we're trying to defend the killer and point blame to the survivors.
I feel that SM main that went against Eternal knew they were going to lose so they chose to make Eternal's time a living hell, and it was not Eternal's fault for the match lasting that long.
If SM could be a chase killer with fair passive slow down, I don't think she'd be that big of a problem, but when the killer's only strength is babysitting her 3 gens for an hour, there's no reason to defend it. No skill ceiling whatsoever. Instead of arguing and blaming survivors for it being their fault for getting 3 genned, you could also acknowledge Skull Merchant's problem and agree.
People take it too personally when others don't like what they like and vice versa which is muddying up the discussion because of clarifying and re-clarifying that SM players aren't bad people just that the killer sucks. Its redundant.
This thread too, has also become redundant, but that being said this is probably the healthiest form of protest that we have as players.
Nobody is harassing the devs and this keeps the convo going which pressure on the devs to fix an issue with the game in a timely manner, something I find to be good in the long-term as long as it doesn't become uncivil.
I say that people continue to make topics about the problem until it gets acknowledged (again) and/or solved. Using your voice is very powerful.

They did the same to Legion for a long time even after they removed the ability to moonwalk down someone with deep wounds, fixed the issues with stacking Filthy and Nasty blade, turbo nerfed and then reworked Frank's Mixtape and Stab Wound Study.
People DC'd on the Twins a ton as well, there was literally the multiple years of hostage Doc and the Forever Freddy days of his original power which caused a ton of DCs. It seems we've been playing this game the same length of time so you would have had to have seen this or at least been aware of this.
The response to Skull Merchant is extremely skewed because the level of baseline hate for her is so much higher than any other killer. Hate she doesn't really deserve considering where it usually stems from has nothing to do with what she's capable of in game and everything to do with people getting hyped up on leaks for Predator or generally being super snobbish about what does and doesn't belong in horror. So a ridiculous level of hatred paired with a generally very weak power that has one grossly over performant strat at the expense of truly being good at anything else means players are going to respond negatively in a seemingly outsized manner.
Most of the folks on this forum that call for her to be killswitched or deleted are also the same ones who were cranking out threads talking about how Skull Merchant doesn't even belong in DBD to begin with.
Critiquing people for being biased against her (with an assumption you made up) while being biased towards her is very funny.
She received a lot of hate because shockingly enough subjectivity =/= mean there can't be a general consensus. Her lore is awful, her looks are janky, and her gameplay is two-dimensional and stale. If you like her that's your right, but I would advise against talking about her like she's some misunderstood diamond in the rough when her flaws from top to bottom are very apparent.
By you own admission she excels at literally one thing and is mediocre at everything else, the thing she excels at is already a dumb gameplay loop nobody likes and something already highlighted with the release of the Knight who also received the same backlash. The only reason the Knight isn't talked about as much is because he's much worse at the strategy and relied on perks to be effective.
Saying her hate is undeserved is extremely delusional, you can like the character all you want, but lets not pretend this is some unicorn land where majority of SM players aren't employing a painful 3-gen strategy, its what the killer is known for and there's more than enough evidence to suggest that the vast majority of her matches fall into this situation.
I personally don't think she will or should be killswitched but I do think a rework is warranted and pretending that the majority of players are dumb bandwagoners who can't think for themselves just because she's talked about a lot makes no sense. There's a very good and justified reason for the infamy. Even excluding the Team Eternal game which is just the cherry on top.
-
They're going to change her at some point.
So all you can do is use the in-game tools to deal with playing or not playing against her and the contrarians who enjoy her can continue to have multi suicide/dc lobbies.
-
Every stealth killer has a sound cue that announces their presence.
If you're playing on speakers you're kinda' screwed but I would absolutely recommend tweaking your sound settings to be as good as possible.
Other than that, having awareness of where your teammates are and if they're being chased to get a grasp on the killer's location is important too. Harder to do in soloqueue, but then again so is everything else. For me, if the killer hasn't interacted with any of my teammates in awhile, that's a good sign they're rotating to me and I'll slowly walk (don't run and leave scratchies) to somewhere safe and watch.
You don't want to run too far though because you need to confirm that they came to your gen and then continued on their patrol, once they leave, wait a moment or two before returning to your gen, they most likely will not double back to your location again and you'll have a good chunk of time to continue working on it.
Rinse and repeat until you win, this counter is usually why stealth killers are regarded as bad. Oh and make sure you heal yourself/allies when its safe too, being injured vs a stealth killer can be very deadly. I wouldn't say that any specific perks would help much since Spine Chill doesn't announce stealth anymore, maybe a solid med-kit or iron will would help.

The question you should ask is "why is matchmaking working like this"
It's not killer's fault for being in a wrong lobby where he can't really do anything.
He had similar hours to everyone else, I could understand if we were gen-rushing or if his first chase cost him a lot so he needed to swap strats for the rest of the trial, but committing to a 3-gen chase at the start and then failing the face-camp is his own fault.
I think this is yet another reason why hiding Prestige/Profiles till the end of the match would be healthier, killers would probably be a lot less stressed and inclined to do something dumb based on assumptions.

Just adding on another example, dude failed the facecamp and then tunneled THEN facecamped again, gave this excuse.

I dont care if you play fair or not I just want you to not tunnel/camp at the start of the game just to get a 1k and no points.

He has C33 and speed add-on. Which is very strong add-on combo.
Lethal + BBQ is very good information combo.
Pop + PR is very strong slowdown perks.
And yet, this was not enough for him because he also proxy camped and tunnelled.
But yeah, he was not sweating. Such a good guy.
Your team has two people with a meta loadout and your Meg's build seems great for resetting, combo that with the offerings and I think its fair game for the killer to expect a hard match and respond in kind.
I dislike grimy killers like anyone else but in that specific game I wouldn't fault the Blight for playing to win because otherwise he would've gotten stomped.

Devour needs a slight nerf tbh. It doesn't have to be big. Just notify survivors of a hex after the first token, like with Huntress Lullaby. Huntress Lullaby is a lot weaker and still notifies survivors as soon as they have one token. I see no reason for Devour to get the benefit of hiding until three (or more if nobody gets hit by exposed) tokens.
That would literally make it useless.
The whole point of Devour Hope is to surprise survivors with a stressful addition to the match, late into the match. Hence the perks namesake.

And this Blight was sweats as well, you are seeing his perks and add-ons. And even with this build, he was very hard tunneller. This is fine but Jill & Renato's builds are boring?
The builds + the map offering/item makes them look like wannabe content creators, I probably would've dodged as a survivor, I hate when people offer those realms because they just try to bully the killer all game instead of trying to win.
The Blight has no shadowborn and is using the worse speed addon, I'd also argue a Blight build with no Alch ring isn't really sweating.
-
It shouldn't work off unhook tbh, but that's like the only thing.

No she wouldn't. We have approximately 1 mehly viable area denial killer (Hag) every other killer has a very basic format of run around searching for survivor, find survivor, hit, repeat. I like killers where every match can be played differently and things are always fresh, SM has a lot that goes into her kit that only improves with add ons (when you actually play her outside of 3 gens) which is why I love her so much because I adore killers with playstyles that can change every match. Yeah you CAN just throw drones at loops or gens but theres much more you can do when it comes to micro management and how you wanna place/adjust everything that without her drones being the way they are just makes her so :/. I don't mind her having zones where she struggles a bit as every killer I feel should, but to essentially destroy her power just to fix something that isn't even an issue with her herself just for it to rinse and repeat isn't gonna help anything.
Agree to disagree then ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯ , I personally believe the needs of the many outweigh the enjoyment of a few, especially if there's always potential to go back and do more work on her later.
With current trajectories I'm sure something is coming anyways, I don't see her enough for it to really tank my enjoyment of the game so I'll just wait for it.

No it IS false advertising actually. You don't make someone pay for something then change it thats like paying to get a burger then they hand you a piece of poop wrapped in a tortilla and go "Its part of the package that we get your order wrong.". And what you're suggesting will never fix the problem just destroy killers who already struggle. Keep nerfing any killer who can utilize a 3 gen in any way instead of just...fixing the 3 gen which you're hugely over complicating.
Except she would still be Skull Merchant.
Her perks would be the same, her lore would be the same, her appearance would be the same. She would most likely still have her drones.
Unless you're saying that putting drones on a gen/loop, something that like 10 killers can already do, was the sole reason you're playing her, this seems like hyperbole.
If it were that easy to fix things in this game, we wouldn't have perks being disabled for weeks (Any Means Necessary,) we wouldn't have basic features like a HUD taking 4+ years to be added, we wouldn't have some characters STILL having gamebreaking bugs (Bubba/Twins.)
Its pretty clear that the coding for this game isn't that great, and I don't want any balance changes taking super long just because the devs want to fix it, they should apply temporary changes to problematic killers first (Knight/SM.) Then fix the three-genning, then buff them if they need it. Everyone wins in the long-term, and in the short-term, we aren't seeing 50 minute games.

Basically yeah.
People are placing too much emphasis on the survivor team being “the best team in the world.”
basically yes SK needs some changes but the survivor team screwed up letting the killer get a solid 3 gen in the first place.
So long as killers can see the auras of gens and can spawn next to a 3-gen (both of which were true in this game,) We cannot fault survivors for getting 3-genned.

I dont think slightly pushing gens away or changing whats most likely a number variable of how close they can spawn will take huge amounts of dev time lol. Stop trying to make every single killer F tier to fix other issues this game has. When SM gets nerfed what then? Then all the people who played her to 3 gen go to knight and the same issue happens except those of us who actually like her now no longer get to play her because shes either
A. Vehemently awful. There is no solution to fixing her 3 gen that doesn't also GUT her. Take away exposed then drones aren't threats, make it so you cant put drones near gens then huge sections of maps will be deadzones for her power, take away her speedboosts then shes just an M1 killer who can see your location every now and then.
B. Not at ALL what we wanted. The other option which is only preferrable because its the only chance of keeping her in a somewhat viable state is to rework her kit heavily which obviously those of us who paid for her didn't pay for.
I have one idea that would fix this problem for skull merchant and keep her how she is for those of us who do love her(Make it so drones can't be placed if their zone comes within a 10 meter range of a generator but remove her drone distance limit) but I doubt they'd incorporate the full thing and probably only the nerf which is the worst part lmao
And then the Knight will get nerfed in that regard as well, the sad reality is that this game has incredibly fickle and fragile coding, things break all the damn time for seemingly no reason. It is most likely going to take a very long time for them to fix the 3-gen issue, I definitely do not want SM holding games hostage, especially as the strat gets more traction while we wait for 3-gen change.
So they should nerf her and whoever else is causing these outliers, sucks for the people that play them, but if people can win just fine on "F-tier" killers then those players will adapt and be fine anyways.
Reworks are part of the potential package when it comes to buying killers, I don't really think its false advertising. That's just what happens since killers are the power role and have big influence over the match.

Shes literally B tier if 3 gens dont spawn close to each other (Which is fine). Skull Merchant isnt the problem its the fact 3 gens can spawn where ANY killer can easily hold the same 3 gen that she pushes it over. If the gens are even moderately too far apart she's extremely easy to disable. The problem isn't SM its 3 gens in general she just exploits that already broken system.
Yes yes that's nice but let's compare the dev time it would take to change something fundamental about the game (recoding gen placement algorithm) and all its potential quirks vs just nerfing a single killer that's not prominent but leads to extreme outliers in gamelength.
They can just revisit her later for buffs once a longer-term change gets put into place. There is zero reason she should remain untouched.
After all the people that play her love the character not her 3-gen playstyle right? Shouldn't be an issue then.

JFC, some of y’all completely ignore what the actual problem with the killer is. The problem isn’t the fact that the best team can be beaten, the problem is the fact that SM can hold a game for almost a whole HOUR against the best team even with amazing coordination. Imagine what your average solo queue team has to go through going against something like this.
It’s miserable for everyone unless you’re the killer and enjoy kicking gens, placing drones near gens, and not doing anything productive the whole match. There’s nothing interesting here and that isn’t a subjective take.
If you genuinely think SM isn’t a problem, then idk what to say.
Its delusion and tribalism making people think that SM getting changed/reworked is yet another "loss" for killer players and another "win" for survivor players. Some people fail to grasp the broader scope of health for this game, there's not really a point arguing with people like that because you can't really force a change of perspective, its just a conclusion they either come to themselves or they won't.
I think what I want is just a dev response to this issue that's more than just "we are aware," I'd like official confirmation that the killer's design is defunct and will be seeing substantial changes, even if its not in the near future.
I think that would put a stop to everyone trying to get their attention with countless discussion about SM.

That's because a lot of threads get moved to the Feedback subsection, if you want to see the more extensive debates over the game, check over there.

Exactly. They need to have some serious conversations internally about how this killer came to fruition.
I absolutely understand not wanting to take your work home with you. The last thing I want to do is do my 9-5 in my free time. But if the people designing killer powers don't have enough experience in the game to immediately see how problematic Skull Merchant's power is during development, that's a problem.
Rule of Cool usually trumps good gameplay design sadly.
This isn't a dbd only issue either, a lot of devs struggle with this once a game hits a certain point in its lifecycle due to the expansive nature of live-service games and the dwindling inspiration one can use.
Leads to a Jurassic Park style of game development where things are made just to be epic and broadly appealing with little regard to game health and longevity, if it sticks it sticks (Wesker) but if it doesn't it gets nerfed/neglected into obscurity while they work on the next Big Thing.
Would not be surprised at all if Skull Merchant get's Hibilly'd and biggest chunk of her playerbase who only plays her to win drops her and we see her fall to Hag-tier popularity.

Remove second Blink, give her 115% ms, problem solved.

Had three people attempt to tunnel me for no reason and DC when they threw the game and lost with 0 kills.
In other words just a normal day of dbd.
