I guess the devs and mods are actively encouraging cheating then...by having rooms for swf comms on the official discord.

Its undeniable that comms do increase the chances of survivors escaping...but it's also hard to deny the fact that, atleast from my experience, it's very rarely something noticeable.

I've played weak killers like pre-rework Clown to strong killers like Blight, and comms are far from the biggest problem in dbd rn, but more so the gap between solo survivor and swf (something that needs improvement on the solo surv side while not making anything too strong).

The devs actively encourage to grow their own player base. If comms had a negative impact on it then they wouldn't encourage it. They're a company and naturally, they want to increase their profit.

I agree with everything else you've said though. Comms have the ability to vastly improve your performance but they also have the ability to vastly decrease your performance if someone is goofing around and you can't hear the killer for example. Or if it makes you play too obviously altruistic. So bottom line is that it probably evens out in the end. If used properly and efficiently then comms hold an undeniably huge power.

That being said and as you've said - it's not close to being the biggest problem DbD has and yes the gap between solo and SWF is too big and creates a balance issue both sides have to suffer from.

One possible solution would be to add a chat and maybe even a voice chat in the game and then re-balance DbD around the very fact that communication is available and an intended part of the game.

Sure, one could argue that it's intended because there's an official discord but I think that's taking it too far. If it really was intended then there would be a chat available in game. It's not that hard to implement that and it also exists post game, so that's not an argument imo.

Wouldn't using video and sound cards to alter the game, not to mention playing around with the .ini files, also count as cheating since console can do none of those things?

Arguably yes, depends on how far you want to go. Since DbD is nowhere near being a real competitive game I don't mind that too much but there certainly are games with tournaments with very strict rules. Take fighting games as an example. Games are locked at 60fps and there are very strict criteria which the controller/gamepad/fighting stick you use has to fulfill in order to be able to participate. For example - you're not allowed to use controllers with a turbo mode. If you're using a modified controller (you either built it yourself or you altered the layout/function/whatever of a retail controller) you'll have to provide your controller for further inspection.

Not too sure what you're on about though tbh. Do you want to justify using comms by the existence of other "workarounds".

Again - I'm not saying "ban comms lul". I'm mainly playing killer but I also do enjoy to play SWF with comms from time to time with my friends. I'm just honest about it with myself and accept that the very fact of using comms will most likely have a rather big positive impact on my matches most of the time.

  • @JHondo said:

I have a feeling this is bait but I'm gonna reply anyway.

SWF is a mechanic made so people could play with their friends. Using Discord or any other comms to play is out of BHVRs hands. Most SWF play casually or to BM, the super sweaty squads do exist but they are the minority of swf players and pretty easy to identify though common usernames or the items they're bringing into the trial, usually double beamer toolbox and medkit and are almost always all on the same platform.

Yes SWF is strong and yes comms can give an unfair advantage but banning them or saying they're cheating is one of the most ridiculous things I've heard in regards to this game.

What needs to be done is find a way to give solos more info to bring them closer in line to swf and buff killers as needed to balance the new disparity.

Well I think banning SWFs for using comms it a bit too much but if we're honest about it, it is kind of cheating. Using a third party communication tool is something that a) boosts your in game performance and b) is in no way or form possible within the game. If there was a way to communicate during the match in a clear way and over a long distance, like a chat (so pointing and waving doesn't apply here), we could argue about comms being absolutely fine but it's not in the game and thus the game was not intended and designed to be played that way. I think the devs even said something along the lines of that they deliberately not included a chat and designed the game as such.

I also think that almost everybody in this community agrees on the fact that comms can give you way more information than otherwise. If used properly, it's essentially a fifth perk for every survivor and a pretty strong one at that too.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying to remove SWFs or bann comms but imo we should accept that SWF+comms as it is what it is and in the end it's "using third party tools to directly improve your gameplay" which somewhat falls within the definition of "cheating".

Or as Wikipedia calls it "Cheating in video games involves a video game player using various methods to create an advantage beyond normal gameplay, in order to make the game easier".

If SWF+comms is not exactly ^--- that, what is it then?

More than 90% of my disconnects were while playing as Survivor. The dc penalty is to prevent players from ruining others' fun match after match, but

    A) I quit towards the end of the match so there was little fun left to be had except for me to wait until I bleed out or until the killer finds the last guy, yet I still receive the same penalty as if I had quit in the first 10 seconds;

and B) I don't dc as the killer, so why am I being barred from playing the killer if I'm not going to "ruin others fun," and if I do disconnect as the killer then just lock the killer role too at 1 penalty level higher than the already-locked survivor role.

    ----

The penalty amount should scale with how far along the match is, and it should only apply to the role you were playing since the roles are effectively two different games.

    ----

Solo survivor is frustrating, but I can't even relax and play a brainless M1 killer build to destress because it's locked

Believe it or not but DCing at the end also affects the game. By DCing you deny stacks for certain perks or the use of Pop. You deny the possibility of the last survivor to pick you up. You create a scenario where the hatch opens up and the last survivor escapes before the killer can get there or vice versa. You deny the scenario where the killer gets tired of looking for the last guy and just picks you up which can take him enough time for the other guy to find the hatch.

You're basically altering the possible outcome of the game artificially by DCing. Chances are the game would've ended in another way if you hadn't DCed. If this would've been a better/worse ending is another story but you're still changing how the game plays out.

Plus your suggested solution would make SWF hatch escape DC exploiting or whatever you want to call it easier by not even being punished with a DC penalty. (You know...the games in which the SWF knows where hatch spawns/is and the second to last guy DCs so the last guy gets hatch 100%).

I'm infuriated. Just had a 35 minutes match with Huntress that should have ended on the first 5 minutes. The survivors were awful, none of them could stay alive for 5 seconds, most of them got hooked several times, they wouldn't heal and they didn't do a single gen. They even refused to unhook each other until last minute or would let people die on hook for no reason at all since i wasn't even nearby.

But they used a hatch offering in the main building. So what happens, I kill 2 guys, I hook the 3rd guy, find the 4th and hook him in the main building where the hatch is. 3rd guy Kobes, 4th guy dies, hatch spawns. Ok, I stand on top of the hatch since the guy who kobed is on the other side of the map (that asarov's map that's super long) camping the door right next to him, which I can't get there fast.

Game goes on for 30 minutes, the dude refuses to leave that door and I get bored, so I closed it. I walk towards that door, as a 110% speed killer, boom, door already open and I get t-bagged by a guy who couldn't do a single gen.

I have to spend hours upon hours to "git gud", specially as huntress, the hatchets I hit in that match were amazing. And what do I get as reward? A 35 minutes match and a loss. And it's not the first time this kind of thing happens to me. I should have just went to watch a movie since the dude had 5 gens to do by himself and no intention of doing them.

This game sucks. Worst part his entire team was watching him and started to trash talk him in the end game chat since the dude did nothing but let everyone die the whole game. Yet what happens? He won.

Very cool BHVR, no wonder your killer queues are so long, have fun with your new flash grenades, autoban system and "moris are toxic so we'll remove them".

First of all - you didn't lose at all. He probably lost even after escaping because he most likely de-pipped if he didn't do gens and didn't last long in chases.

Escape is not automatically a win. 4k is also not automatically a win. If I kill every survivor on their first hook due to slugging I'll still de-pip and thus lose ranking.

Secondly - this game is NOT a competitive e-sports game. There is far far far too much RNG in this game to be considered as such. Sure, it's somewhat competitive because it's a PvP game but given the fact how much RNG, unlock able power-ups (perks, offerings, items/addons) there is in this game and the atrocious "matchmaking" if you can even call it that, you shouldn't be so mad because of winning/loosing in this game.

This game is not something to be super try hard and sweaty about. In it's core its pretty casual but people just took it further than it was supposed to be.

Pssst the complaint is about bloodpoints - not rank.

Psst - I was replying to someone complaining about loosing his rank though :D

  • Are you perhaps playin on WiFi? Even with a good ping and high transfer rates, wireless connections are always unstable when compared to wired connections. They're super fine for your usual stuff like office work, browsing and streaming but WiFi really falls apart in some gaming scenarios especially fighting games.

Maybe this instability could be causing your blink issues.

I'll run BT,DH,Adrenaline and WGLF just to soak as many blood points as possible we we the little piggy goes all the way to the bank

I don't know it feels more personal for my toxic players ,they have to win or they'll be obliterated into a million pixels if they don't.

It's because objectly there also establishing dominance over you ,poking fun at you're manhood, women hood,or lively hood, and I'm sure that's what others feel if ,I'm feeling that I'm sure other do to.Those matches just show how powerless you are,but that's probably how others feel when you play against casual players, so at the end of the day it's just blood being paid back with blood, that's why I play survivor so,I can pay back the blood

I'm probably an ######### sometimes so I don't mind if a killer will camp or tunnel me,I mind but I understand why it's happening

I might drop a complaint but mainly just to vent most of the time that's what my complaints are just me venting really.

I don't want anything changed even the power PH has it's great, I just need to vent sometimes when I have really ######### matches.

Thin is NOED is just making the Killer feel a bit better about himself while also kinda keeps him from improving. After this rank reset bug I've noticed (got booted to survivor rank 18 for whatever reason) that almost every single killer in green ranks is running NOED. Had a ghost face, a Myers and even a Bubba run NOED because they legitimately were not able to get a single kill before the EGC.

So those players pretty much rely on NOED to get a single kill at EGC because every body else just exits, leaving the hooked guy to die.

While it's an annoyance for the hooked survivor it hinders those green rank killers from improving imo because it gives them a false feeling of partial success.

  • Yeah solo matches were horrible yesterday. I literally had 3 matches in a row where I completed 2 gens and then ran the killer for 3 gens just for my teammates to let me die on my very first hook because all gens were complete. Those guys were just hiding/crouching around 24/7.

I guess the rank reset but hit me hard.

  • This issues is more of a green/grey rank thing, isn't it? After rank reset I've also noticed almost every killer face camping with NOED (got booted to rank 18 for whatever reason as survivor) because they basically get looped for 4 gens straight if the pick the wrong survivor to chase and most killers at those ranks are too stubborn to drop a chase on purpose.

So they basically get 1-3 kills tops (judging from my games from rank 18 to 14 so far) and then, ofc, just face camp the survivor they got with NOED because they would not get any kills.

In my red rank games as killer I can't face camp even if I wanted to because then people would just gen rush the living hell out of me and escape all escape.

I've rarely encountered a face camping killer around red ranks as survivor before the rank reset. At least not before the EGC.

Trickster, his whole power is so bad that its close to impossible to buff, and giving him 115% ms will just make every trickster never use their power

I've been thinking about a fix for Trickster. How would it be if survivors have to actively pull out the knifes they got hit with which could take around 1 second per knife? This would make him stronger in chase because his "hits" don't just automatically heal but it would also give him some kind of passive gen slow down.

I agree with you!!! but do you know what tires me the most? keep the killer for the whole game and die on the first hook because the other survivors run away without coming to save me!

Happened to me yesterday almost every game.... Ran the killer for 3-4 gens (because rankroulettereset scooped me back to rank 18 for whatever reason) only to discover that 95% of killers in green ranks run NOED and everyone insta leaves resulting with me dying on my first hook. Fun times...

Man, you are two-for-two with absolutely horrible arguments and I've only seen your name twice so far on the forums.

If the killer just refuses to leave a survivor, they are ignoring all other survivors, which is what OP already said.

BL Haddonfield infinites don't exist anymore because BL was nerfed, and the OP is applicable to any game where the killer is just really bad and survivor is just looping better than them.

The OP isn't even complaining about getting chased, which means you didn't even read the post smart guy. The point of the post is that survivors don't get many bloodpoints for being chased for that long even though they effectively carried the team.

Saying that the survivor shouldn't get more bloodpoints because the killer scoring events are also stupid is akin to saying "I experienced bad thing, so everyone else should too," when both sides could just be changed.

The OP literally didn't refuse to participate in other categories, they CANNOT because they are being chased. But lemme know if you found a way for survivors to do generators while also being chased!

Man, don't give the devs new ideas for stupid survivor perks. :D

While being chased by the killer, you'll still be able to repair a random, unfinished, generator at 30% the normal speed. Hitting a great skill check while being chased will grant you a speed boost for 0.5/1/1.5 seconds."

Well, when you play mostly Survivor and then you die several times on first hook because none of your green friends saved you, exactly at this point you care about playing in higher ranks... :D

I do understand your frustration. Had the same happen to me yesterday because two green randoms decided to heal in the other corner of the map while I was dying on my second hook. I died before anybody could reach me...

On the other hand you can just look at it as an opportunity to get better at looping. Green Rank killers are typically pretty bad and easy to loop. So they either have to chase you or let go and chase someone else. Sure, if the decide to tunnel you then you'll die eventually because you'll run out of options but that'll cost him the game and it's pretty rare to encounter killers who absolutely tunnel vision on only one survivor. At least in my experience.

That'd being said I mostly play killer but I've been getting into playing more survivor as of late because playing killer at red ranks at around 7-10pm sometimes tilts the living f out of me :D

  • @LowrenceVonQersrick said:

Yeah, i had this just now. Killer found me first, chased something around 60-90 seconds, he was running after me thru half of whole map, and lost 2,5 gens on my first hook. Then i was tunneled and dead after something around 3,5 gens done. And i dont mind, he killed me so i guess it is good strategy. :) But i also lost rank, and thats not cool. What more could i do? Clearly there was no one else to save or help, i cannot do gens or anything really. I was dead, because he found me first. Thats it.

If someone is on hook 3 times in a row, there should be no rank drop and some bonus BP would be also nice.

You shouldn't care about ranks too much in this game. Rankings are a complete joke in DbD and nowhere near representative. Took me literally 40 hours (as a new player) to reach red ranks as Killer. And the matches in red ranks still felt like I was playing against bots half of the time while the other half felt like I was playing against the gods of looping and gen rushing.

  • @JHondo said:

I dunno, when I'm forced to be the gen jockey I'm lucky if I get more than 11,000pts as I watch everyone else farm unhooks in the killers face and just trade until someone dies and I finally die on first hook with only 8-10,000pts.

This whole thread is just a huge summarization of what's wrong with BP/the emblem system in DBD imo...

  • As a Killer Main - I 100% agree. Farming BP as killer is as easy as it can get, especially with BBQ. Potentially getting 64k BP (I get around 40-45k on avg. in my matches with BBQ) versus 15-20k as survivor is huge.

Given how much there is to unlock by now in this game the BP gain of survivors is laughable at best.

  • @HealsBadMan said:

Just do something else and derank. Don't throw per se bc its bannable, but see how many hooks you get as a Killer w/no addons or perks, or bully the Killer and never touch a gen or heal teammates. Eventually you'll go back to 'fun' ranks

I do enjoy a challenge, don't get me wrong. I certainly don't want "free" wins. But for some reason anything above red ranks feels like playing against bots while red ranks is most of the time an absolute stompfest where I can't do anything and I feel like a bot.
