I'm not sure why you're italicizing the killer's base power as if it has anything to do with anything. Doctor has all sorts of tracking in his base ability kit, are you saying he shouldn't because other tracking perks exist? What does a tracking ability being part of a killer's base abilities have to do with anything in this thread?

Also taking away the ability to do damage at extreme range doesn't take away the ability to do damage at up to 30 meters. Survivors still can't ignore crows when the Artist is in the area even if they hypothetically took away the ability to do damage with them beyond that range.

Because the killer's base power is intended to either help them get injures, get downs, or both. A perk that is optional, can be applied to any killer, and only gives information is very clearly NOT intended for the same purpose. Anything built into a killer's kit directly is there for a purpose to aid them in either chase (antiloop,) or catching survivors off guard (stealth, or mobility.) Crows do literally neither of those things.

Its funny you keep mentioning doctor, since his power prevents vaults/pallet drops/even dead hard. Crows do none of those things. She has to land a skillshot that has a placement and release delay. The kicker is that she either needs to do it when there are absolutely zero physical obstructions, or she needs to land it twice within a period where a survivor holding the button to disperse her crows is only 1 second shorter by default than her ability to place and release more crows... or the survivor ignores her power completely and then gets confused and cries on the floor when they get downed (assuming they were injured to begin with.)

This is one of the easiest to counter powers in DBD history yet people still complain without taking a minute to learn how it actually works. You got your absolutely safe built in counterplay, yet you refuse to use it.

As for the 30 meters argument, you clearly don't even understand how it works in a simple loop, why would you pretend to understand what impact it would have at 30+ meters versus 28?

  • His animations and camera still feel jank as fugg, BUT, they're not as bad as that one dreaded patch.

The instances of seeing claudette booty skillfully ignore the chainsaw by holding W has decreased somewhat, but it still happens unfortunately.

  • Sometimes I run CoH. I know its an absolutely busted perk, and it completely destroys map pressure for half the killers in the game, but sometimes i use it just to win.

I'm sorry (apparently fellow?) killer mains, please forgive me.

  • was wondering how long this topic would take, even with another one that actually had multiple counterplays while simultaneously showing how easily the value of this perk is denied.

Well your complaint about the aura was you get to see them but be too far away to pressure them off. How is that any different from BBQ?

Also I don’t use BBQ personally but I know there are quite a lot of people who use it just for the aura.

the aura is only worth the perk slot on killers that can utilize it well. Killers like Pig, Billy, Nurse, Blight who use it either to know where everyone is, or to start the next chase as quickly as possible. Its also a perk that gets chosen in a loadout and not, you know, the killer's base power.

This isn't like pinhead's addon where his chains can injure immediately on hit. The artist's ability to injure survivors by hitting them while they have crows already on them is specifically to punish survivors who ignore her power. The time to remove crows vs the cooldown to fire more is a pretty clear indication of that.

  • @dugman said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2789765#Comment_2789765

And BBQ likewise shows you info on distant survivors, but people still think that information is valuable.

BBQ also isnt even remotely the same thing? Its aura reading isn't even very useful on most killers, its primary use is for points.

  • @dugman said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2789533#Comment_2789533

If survivors don’t respect the ability at long range they’re giving the Artist free information every time a crow hits them. It’s the info that’s valuable, not the snipe gimmick.

So you get to watch them sit on the gen and not move, without being able to punish it short of crossing the entire map? cool.

  • @GoshJosh said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2789569#Comment_2789569

You mean like the killers who couldn't bring perks of their own to counter Boil Over? Or slug?

Killers who only have 4 perk slots, which need to dedicate 2+ to gen defense? Nah they just said ######### it and started camping and tunnelling to make it 3v1 asap so they could combat gen speeds. The ones who were against the BO troll squads just started slowly bleeding everyone out. They complained because, even when winning, it was extremely bad for the game health.

Sure there are plenty of killers who cry about things that are unreasonable, but pick your battles lmao.

  • People would rather complain than learn counters. It makes actual legitimate issues near impossible to find in a sea of tears.

  • AFTER a survivor is hooked, it activates and starts its timer, but doesn't do anything yet. While its timer is active, if a survivor lets go of a gen, the gen is blocked for the remainder of the timer. It does not regress the gen, and the killer can't cancel it early in order to be able to start regression themselves. Its basically locked in a neutral state.

Oh, also, the timer doesn't refresh with each hook. If there are 5 seconds left on the timer when another survivor is hooked, the perk is wasted for that hook entirely.

  • @dugman said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2789524#Comment_2789524

I agree, I said multiple times above damaging people at range is a gimmick, her real strengths are long range information, aura tracking in a chase and zoning at loops. That’s why I said removing her ability to do damage at extreme range isn’t a big nerf.

Its not a nerf that needs to happen at all. If she couldn't do damage at all from longer distances, survivors would have zero reason to respect her power from long ranges. You just want to be able to sit on the gen without the risk of being an obvious target.

  • @dugman said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2789482#Comment_2789482

I didn’t say “remove her ability to damage at range”, I said they could remove her ability to damage at “extreme range”. Being able to do damage from say 30 meters out or less is still possible there.

Play her. For the love of all things sacred. Damaging people at a distance might as well not exist unless the survivor begs for it.

  • @dugman said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2789340#Comment_2789340

That’s not a “100% counter” because the artist can just send a new crow 10 seconds later and still block the gen for 35 seconds if you get back off it.

Also the counter for BBQ has nothing to do with not being on a gen so I’m not sure why you brought that up?

Why do you need a "100% counter" in the first place?

As a doc main, I gotta admit, even on the larger maps it can be ridiculously easy to hold a 3 gen with DMS and static blast, especially with a TR increase build

Too bad a single survivor with a CoH boon outside of that 3gen completely nullifies it since you're not an instadown killer :(

And i said, killer is not only using 2 perks. She can learn which generators are repairing with information perks.

Cool, then start running and gain huge distance and good positioning before she arrives. Using DMS practically nullifies Pop so you know she won't have that (or if she does, she wont be able to afford even a few seconds of chase if she wants to use it)

  • plenty of counters offered, but the complaining continues.

DMS doesn't even regress gens, and synergizes poorly with most perks that do. Whole lotta LET ME WIN energy in here.

If DMS blocks a gen, work on another one. Stagger multiple instead of just sitting on one AFKing while holding space.

What you're talking about sounds like a completely different issue than what OP is referring to???

Like, they're talking about the game giving a disconnection penalty to players who didn't DC because of some technical error and you're talking about people DCing and rage quitting intentionally because of how a game is going. Those are 2 separate issues entirely

yeah, this. I've seen it a few times lately, end up getting thrown out of the game with my item i entered with (if i had one) and full BP rewards, but the 5 min disconnection penalty and only the killer's DC icon in postgame. Every time its happened to me, its been a survivor attempting to BM the killer and failing, then as they die (or are about to) we're suddenly all thrown out.

  • ...Are people really this unwilling to just let go of the gen for a second in case it pops, then start working on it again? It counters both perks simultaneously.

  • Billy has felt awful to play since before they even gave him the overheat mechanic tbh. He's never fully recovered from that one time they completely botched his camera and animations, its only gotten marginally better since then.

You don't buff Killer stuff to overpowered levels to counteract the overpowered stuff Survivors have, you just nerf the overpowered stuff Survivors have

Nah, you nerf other killer stuff that survivors complain is unfair while leaving the op survivor stuff alone for 6-24 months.

  • I'm fully convinced its a pride issue at this point. I wonder how many times accurate feedback has been denied over someone being too embarrassed to change something?

  • @GuyFawx said:

What if BT protected the unhooker as well from a hit that would solve his camp game

    what short memories we have...

  • Run Kindred and Windows of opportunity. Kindred will tell you where everyone is the second someone is hooked, so you'll be able to be optimal with when to stick to gens, go for saves, or distract the killer. All 3 will contribute toward emblems, so Kindred alone is already giving you a way of deciding which of the 3 is best at any given time someone is out of commission.

Windows will help you route chases much better, so you'll get caught in deadzones considerably less often, and know what pallets have/havent been used (likewise, which doors havent been broken.) Learning to use that information can either make your chases last extremely long, or have the killer outright refuse to chase due to recognizing when their time and pressure will be wasted.

Don't go for bad saves. If you have BT don't rely on it, and if you don't have BT then don't save in the killer's TR unless absolutely necessary. And if a save DOES go south, be willing to pull the killer away from the person who just got unhooked. If you know the killer is on the opposite side of the map (and its not a killer like the plague or something,) don't be afraid to heal the person who just got unhooked either (and again, if interrupted, be willing to take the attention on purpose.)

Those decisions alone will help pip progress at most ranks of solo survivor, and have the added bonus of just being plays that help take away the killer's pressure and increase your chances of winning. Don't worry about the survival emblem too much, unless its something like you're standing at the exit gates teabagging and havent been downed the entire game (then you could drop from iri to gold for no reason, so stop BMing and just leave.)

  • I feel that overall the game is currently survivor sided. At the top level, its SWF sided. in the middle, its kinda even, since it only takes 1 good survivor to really turn the tide of a game sometimes. At the lowest level, killers absolutely dominate though.

The biggest problem I have with balancing the game, and especially with the "feedback" that often gets given, is that too little of it actually takes things into account, and instead relies on knee jerk reactions. "Killer camped/tunnelled? Killer OP." "Survivor chained 2 loops and I refused to break the pallet? Survivor OP" People would rather get directly angry about a play not going their way, rather than try to learn from it.

And I get it. At all skill levels, and on both sides, there will be situations you can do absolutely nothing about. Be it from bad RNG, bad teammates, incredibly strong situational advantages, it can be extremely frustrating to be put in situations you simply can't win. Unfortunately the only time those situations are important to game balance is when they are constructively addressed, and not many people offer reasonable answers.

Here's an example: Scourge hooks. There are 4 of them regardless of how many scourge perks you have, which is consistent enough and kinda makes sense (since the hook can proc multiple perks, there's no reason to increase the amount.) Unfortunately, there is no system in place for determining scourge hook distribution, so they can spawn in such a way that makes them entirely useless for most (if not all) of a match.

This dilemma itself technically isn't new, since killers had the same problem with hex spawns, but it raises an interesting balance discussion: How can scourge hooks be made more consistent, without removing their limitation of requiring specific hooks? Do you make it so they have to be a certain distance from each other? maybe require at least 1 normal hook in between? Have them focus on corners of the map? Increase the number to 6? Maybe a combination of some of the potential fixes?

The hamfisted argument would be to make them all scourge hooks. While this would certainly make the perks using them more consistent, its not what is necessary to fix the issue: It essentially pushes the needle too far in the opposite direction, and defeats the point of scourge hooks in the first place. While one could argue that the system of Scourge Hooks is too limiting vs a perk's strength in general, that becomes a different topic altogether.

That same type of feedback issue gets applied to many things in the game, and a lot of times it does more harm than good. Unfortunately this tends to be fostered by how ignored many constructive feedback posts can feel, especially when they get banished to the graveyard containment board for them. Topics with constant complaining about X or Y will get dozens of pages of responses with maybe a handful of well thought out posts, but the sea of responses will be MAKE X BASEKIT or Y NEEDS TO BE NERFED while the suggestions given are extremes that suit people's personal tastes rather than actual balance.

So I guess TL;DR is high skill favors survivor, low skill favors killer, everything in between is a mixed bag, 99% of complaints are non-constructive.

Perhaps SWF gives *less" of an advantage to experienced killers who know how to play around it, but to new players, we just get bullied, and learn nothing. How about a filter for new players. Cant be placed with SWF until after XX amount of playtime or something.

oh no, that advantage of theirs continues regardless of your skill level. The MMR system doesn't even work correctly because it doesn't want them to have to wait too long, so it throws them at someone with 5 hours in the game if they're in queue for more than a few minutes.

Welcome to why many people don't bother playing killer. You either need to tough it out and lose horribly while you spend obscene amounts of time unlocking decent builds on killers and learning how they all work, get lucky and get matched with players of actual similar skill, or just ignore the role entirely and just play for the occasional daily/tome challenge.

"The majority of my improvement in the game has come from learning from mistakes. Brute forcing the same mistakes over and over and relying on a crutch in the process teaches nothing."

Ah, yes. I will now learn from my mistake and avoid getting unhooked by Survivors who dont have BT. Thank you. You changed my life. If I would be able to do 10% of what you can do, I would be a better person.

Seriously, a Perk which only helps you if another person has it is a band-aid.

And BHVR at least seems to think about a solution. But as I said before, it depends what they do. E.g. if they make BT Basekit, but nerf it by reducing the Endurance, they would probably buff camping.

In the end, I am not a big fan of BT being basekit, but the thought process makes sense.

Ah, yes. I will now learn from my mistake and avoid getting unhooked by Survivors who dont have BT.

don't know if you missed the point on purpose, but the point was that situation is the one you can't control, but its also the one where said survivor needs to learn to not do that stuff, because its a bad play. To you being unhooked? Its bad luck in the same way that bad RNG is, its just caused by a human player who has not (or refuses) to learn better. If you want something where your perk makes the difference, run kindred so they can see the other survivors (as well as the killer if they're near the hook) and hopefully gain some sense.

  • @Aven_Fallen said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2786054#Comment_2786054

No, not really. But thx again.

I wrote that you have no control over the Survivor who is unhooking you. So if they have BT or not.

Because you can write "its not necessary at all". Yeah, I would like others to actually have BT. And it does not matter if the Killer is actually camping or if they are just farming me.

This is something you cant control.

You're right. There are many things you can't control in the game. Your teammates actions might as well be the same RNG that determines hook spawns, totem placements, and anything else. I'd love if gens spawned in even spacing to prevent 3 gen setups, deadzones to never happen, etc. And likewise, I'm sure killers would love to not have scourge hooks cluster in a corner of the map, ruin to spawn in LoS of survivors, and so on. Sometimes its just not in your favor, but that doesn't mean you need a safety net for free in this one situation.

The biggest difference is that survivor behavior and tactics are caused by a person. A person who can learn from bad plays and improve. Giving them crutches rewards bad plays, so they continue to make them without needing to think "huh, maybe I should have thought that out better."

The majority of my improvement in the game has come from learning from mistakes. Brute forcing the same mistakes over and over and relying on a crutch in the process teaches nothing.

  • You literally started with "BT Basekit would actually make sense" when no, no it would not. Because its not necessary at all, which is the point of making things basekit.

TBH I should have gone into how what you're implying in the post is dangerously close to how BT was when it affected both the unhooker and the unhooked, which was rightfully nerfed.

Your point is nonsensical. For one game you don't get to complete your challenge and instead of brushing it off and trying again you want to complain that this one killer didn't pander to you doing what you needed to do. That's just a bit hypocritical...

Imagine, it would have taken less effort to just do another game and try for the challenge :)

  • @HommeBizarre said:

What is the point of the repel action if survivors can remove the crows faster than the Artist reloading her power ?

you can get two hit setups from across the map if you stagger their position a good distance apart, but aimed at the same spot. Other than that, using two whole addons gives you like an extra second and a half to try to land the second one lmao

honestly its more for information than anything. The big boi snuggly at the start of the launch path is the only part that should be relied on for consistent damage, and he requires an open path with no obstacles (so basically just for antiloop setups)

I agree with you right there I get it, and some are hard, but I just felt like, some of us too had stuff to do also? is it such a crime want to do your mission along with others?

Technically, yes. you're not supposed to collaborate with the killer in general, especially through messaging software. Survivors use that to sandbag each other all the time, and its not a built in feature for multiple reasons.

Nobody EVER has to cooperate with farming or cooperation with the opposing side. You ALWAYS have a choice in the matter, and there is no restriction nor requirement of such truces to happen. Again, the killer could have thanked you by just killing you and smacking you on hook until the timer ran out. Take the W and don't complain.

My point is a Killer can hold the game as today, he was all wanting to just have the red glyph so we had a boring match, opened the gate for us to want us to leave my point is I had a challenge to do, but we had to pander to the whims of the killer

The killer isn't holding the game hostage. They did not prevent gens from being able to be done, and unless they bodyblocked you in a spot where you couldn't move, they did not prevent you from being able to work toward your goal. Hell, according to the devs, boil over RPD exploits aren't considered taking the game hostage, even though they can waste absurd amounts of both the killer and other survivors' time. If you don't want to participate, just go your objective, don't help the killer, and leave.

You literally have zero point outside of "the killer didn't give me my challenge back"

  • @SunsetSherbet said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2785937#Comment_2785937

It's even worse if it's a survivor challenge because you are now impacting your team and lowering their chance of winning by doing a challenge that is putting you (and thus the team by proxy) at a disadvantage. I think the most pure example of this is the blue glyphs. I like the idea of the glyphs but I don't like the idea of that challenge putting detrimental effects on you, which now harms your team by making you weaker for some time. There's other challenges that encourage you to go out of your way to do things you don't generally do regularly. I am certainly guilty of going in a match and just running to every hook saboing them for a sabo tome challenge.

There are some killer ones that are just as bad, especially the invisible glyph one. You basically have to give up all post hook pressure and time to get it unless you otherwise randomly chance upon it at a time you can afford it. Ones for breaking pallets can be a waste of time and even setups for killers like huntress and hag who can benefit from keeping them.

I don't think a single person disagrees that some challenge designs are awful, but the topic is about OP being upset they didn't get one for free as "thanks" from the killer.

  • @Aven_Fallen said:

The thing is, BT Basekit would actually make sense. Because BT is a band-aid for camping (something which BHVR gets criticized for a lot, when they introduce fixes via Perks). But, the Survivor on the Hook has no control over it, I can bring BT all the time, but this does not mean that the Survivor unhooking me will have it.

However, it highly depends what they will do with it. They wont give the Survivors the current BT as Basekit and dont give anything back to the Killer. They will either help Killers in a different aspect or make a watered down version of BT Basekit. The latter can actually turn out to be worse, because it might be even easier to tunnel afterwards.

the vast majority of survivors who claim they need BT, use it solely to not be punished for bad saves. I almost never run it, yet i get saves just fine thanks to other perks like Kindred.

I've always been against the sandbag challenges, yeah. Stuff like "repair the equivalent of x gens" and "hook survivors x times" are fine since they are the main objective, ones around saves and kicking gens/pallets are iffy since they can go either way, but some outright tell you to play bad to get them.

Are you even reading? no so here is a sticker for you too, I can't be doing with trogs that don't get what I am saying. -pins a sticker to you- adults only here :)

So resorting to ad hominems aside, what did you hope to accomplish with this topic? trying to get killers to give you a free pass in a way that benefits you more? or to not go for challenges they don't think they'll be able to get in a sweaty game?

You totally are missing the point but here is a sticker, off you go.

The entire point of this topic is that its complaining for the sake of complaining, so why not just leave it on your twitter or something instead?

Someone else got their challenge for free, and you didn't. first world problems, especially in this game.

Lol! "Unless you play well enough" honey I have been here for 3 years lol no read what I said! I am not co operating, I am saying killers come in want to do their challenges and not all they will farm and not play the game at all due to wanting their selfish ways and not playing the game how it is survs cant do their daily missions etc. Maybe read what I said.

so you're.... upset because the killer had an objective that didn't revolve around the survivors themselves, and didn't bother trying to kill you? I'm even more confused. You legitimately got a free win when the majority of survivor complaints come from being 1hook camp/tunnelled/etc?

Maybe they're bad at killer, and knew giving themselves a large handicap wouldn't give them a fair game anyway? just gotta reiterate, you're complaining about a free win.

Also, yes, "Unless you play well enough." As in, if you play better than the killer and they can't catch you, which isn't impossible depending on the skill difference.

Omg I am not, I have to do gens just to get the hell out of there because it's boring, why should the Killer get dibs on others doing missions? I need to do a mission but oh no some killer is too fearful to play the game and to their mission as its suppose to and aborts to farming, wooh.

Because the killer controls whether you live or die. Unless you play well enough that their input doesn't matter anyway. Like think about this for a moment, you're literally complaining about the killer offering to collaborate with you, in a non-griefing manner. If you don't like it, don't cooperate.

I still think Basekitting BT is the quickest way to make BT irrelevant. If a killer is going to tunnel you, it's going to happen. With BT in question, they might hit you and give you the speed boost you need to bolt away but if the killer goes in KNOWING you have BT, do you think the killer is going to

    A. Have a change of heart and stop tunneling

    B. Wait X seconds to then smack you instead

At least right now the killer has some risk/reward to smacking you right off the hook but make BT basekit and all you're going to get is tunneled but after X seconds have passed

the next goalpost would become "BT unhook timer shouldn't start until outside the TR" and next thing you know, every killer is suddenly post-nerf legion.

This was it, we was in and out, Killer opened the gate and was all like gg, i got my shards, yeah thanks for my cnsent of giving an easy match it was boring.

if its boring, play the actual game instead. just run from the killer, do your gens, and peace out. if you're sandbagging yourself to help the killer with challenges, you are knowingly making the game boring.
