Self care is like that because of lower ranks. It's not that common in red ranks. In red ranks, DS, DH, & BT are definitely wayyyy more common than self-care. Unbreakable & a few of the other meta perks are more debateable.
Yeah, new players still wind up reading guides with misguided "run Self-Care!" advice that teaches them super-bad habits, which they have to unlearn later.
-
It's not Huntress who needs a rework. It's that specific combination, which is one of the absolute worst things to face in this game.

I know that wasting bloodpoints on perks after lvl 50 without prestiging looks psychopathic enough.
But wasting iridescent shards on bloodpoints? So much rare currency for some bloodpoints???
I-... I just...
I have never wasted Iridescents on a cosmetic item. My time is way more valuable than that, and I would rather spend a trivial $5 on something than a bunch of shards that it took 15 times as long to earn.

Oh boy, of course it was the Claudette that BMed. I wish people would stop being a crouching stereotype with her and actually get good.
I resent that remark. Rank 4 full-perk-library Claudette here, who never BMs, doesn't run Self-Care or Urban Evasion, and doesn't spend the game hiding like a potato.

Also, welcome to the forums and the game, @sunsetsilhouette -- I hope you will stick with it, because it gets more fun as you learn. Let us know if you have any questions.
-
Yeah, Hex: Devour Hope lets them start killing people once it has enough stacks. It's been popular lately, and it's honestly one of my most hated perks to deal with in survivor games right now.
-
I used to agree with you about Kindred, but it is so powerful at this point that it would be super-unbalanced if all survivors just had it by default.
There are audio and visual cues to evaluate gen progress. Or are you saying you want to be able to tell from across the map?

I never understood getting all T3 perks without prestiging either. It feels like a new movement from the newer generations of players who can't or don't want to deal with the grind of 2020 with all the content we've received almost 4 years later, so yeah, in a sense prestiging is a much greater task than it was way back when.
However, even if it is, it still feels hella incomplete if you T3 perks without prestiging. Prestiging gives you a greater likelihood of rarer items in your bloodwebs there is a direct benefit beyond the P3 outfit pieces you get after every prestige. Especially if that character is your main and you play them frequently, if you T3 all perks and later down the line you decide to P3 you will have wasted a TON of bloodpoints and time.
It's even worse because then you're getting all perks, eventually deciding to P3, and then get all perks.
And I mean, think about it this way, if you P3 there is NOTHING left to do afterward. There is no P4, once you make it to P3 you're good and you get the benefit of everything. It's the end of the line so to speak, now you all you need to do is maintain your character with add-ons, offerings, etc.
and I mean, since you're playing DBD why not? There's no compaign, not everyone likes the diversity of the challenges of the archives, so why not give yourself your own goals? Like P3-ing certain and specific characters you enjoy.
players who can't or don't want to deal with the grind of 2020 with all the content we've received

The grind is a huge issue.

Be Happy With What You Get....
I love DBD I really do BUT I can't stand people who will automatically after a new killer is announced and they're NOT happy with the developer picked, they'll be like, who's the next killer going to be? Can't you be happy with what you get? I'm excited for the new Silent Hill chapter and if you aren't happy about the ne Killer no one is forcing you to buy it OR play it for that matter.
Oh a little side topic I wanted to discuss. Why do people complain about a new Killer being OP (Overpowered) and they act like little babies and DC because they can't handle it. First off, a Killer is supposed to be overpowered, he or she IS a Killer, duh. Don't DC all because oh no it's Pyramid Head I'll go to another game, that's just childish and if you are going to act like a baby playing DBD then you should've have press PLAY to begin with. Sorry rant done. I just wanted to get that off my chest and see if others felt the same as I do.
Everyone has their opinion, and nothing they do is gonna please everyone.
The way I look at it is: It's a bit silly to get angry that the new game mechanics are not wrapped in the specific textures you would have preferred. I could probably rattle off a few licenses I would have preferred if it were somehow up to me, but I also think it's really cool to see them branching off into a full video game horror chapter, and Silent Hill is an absolutely awesome place to start. I'm sure that Pinhead or Candyman or Jason or whoever will wind up in DBD down the line, but I am just eager to see what each new chapter brings, whatever it may be.
-
Hopefully The Game, in such a way that it isn't two claustrophobic floors that you can get lost in way too easily. I hate that map.
-
How dare you play in such a boring way, getting a passive buff for pursuing your objectives.
Oh also, lol at his OH MY CONTROLLER BROKE excuse.
-
The killer not having a TR is a super-specific scenario that definitely isn't worth an entire perk slot. Why would you use this over Spine Chill, which essentially does the same thing as you're describing but much better?
-
I don't understand the issue. You hit the survivors to make them run away. This kind of bodyblocking puts them at risk for getting downed themselves.
-
Jeff should get a head cosmetic that straps a massive bullhorn to him. But then it doesn't change his volume at all, because you can already hear his uninjured breathing from two maps over, and both maps are Hawkins with tons of background noise, and also the killer has both Distressing and M&A equipped.

Its gonna annoy the hell out of people if the planned new prestige rewards are something crazy cool/useful.
If it's something useful, and it's not reasonably accessible by the entire player base regardless of their past choices (i.e. opting not to prestige and instead full-perk a main because prestiging is currently not worthwhile), there's going to be a massive revolt on the forums. Because it is (I assume) a new system/moving of goalposts, it needs to be accompanied by an option to reset your character levels and globally refund all BP for a one-time reallocation.
It needs to be friendly to all players, and not a selective portion of players. This is more important than making a few players feel special-as-heck because they did a big grind when no solid payoff was there.

I love how killers will stand firm that camping and tunneling are legitimate strategies, but then whine and ######### on hook suicide. To use something from your playbook, that is a legitimate strategy, get good.
I love how people treat the DBD roles as if they are political parties, and then strawman these types of motives onto others.
I do not "main" either role. I have not suggested here, or anywhere, that I support camping or tunneling as effective strategies, so what you're saying here makes no sense. And, if anything, I can't imagine a scenario where a hook suicide is anything but helpful for the killer. I made this suggestion mainly as an idea to ensure that survivors don't have to deal with the kinds of wrecked games that result from their teammates suiciding on hook.
-
I dunno when you bought the game, but the basic gameplay loop (...such as it is, lol) has been this way for years. It should not come as a surprise.
-
A disconnect is a disconnect. It doesn't matter why.
If you don't understand why there is a penalty for this, it can't possibly be anything but a willful misunderstanding. There's no functional position you can take against a penalty for disconnecting and thus sabotaging a match for everyone who remains in it.
-
Having five more perks in every match would be super OP. Take every balance complaint thread or angry postgame chat and multiply it by 25%. That's what it would result in. Also, it would eliminate the difficult choices that you have to make when creating builds. You would be able to cover every weakness with a fifth perk slot.
-
On paper, sure.
In practice, anything that splits queues would not be good right now.
-
I really like Haddonfield as a survivor, and I dunno why others don't. Those houses are filled with great hiding spots and escape routes, and the upstairs generators are among the safest bets in the game.
I intensely disliked Hawkins when it came out, but it's... OK. I still really dislike its "noise profile," though. It's too loud. This especially throws me off as killer, because I'll be like DID I HEAR AN INJURED SURVIVOR and it was just some background sound.
-
@Carlosylu said:
I've seen Blendettes crouching and hiding the whole match just to get the hatch at the end, if they got a safety pip I thinks that'd be really unfair
This is a garbage play style, but the worst outcome of this change would be that they just don't go anywhere with it, they just tread water with safety pips. They aren't being penalized as long as they escape, but they're also being useless and substantially decreasing their own chance for survival if they aren't on objectives. They also aren't being rewarded with a pip.
I mentioned this up above, but I also think this would need to be accompanied with a change that results in a bunch of loud-noise-ping crows over a survivor's head when they go too long without making any meaningful game contribution.

Ok but then if you start prestiging people after youve done everything else, you wasted a mother truck ton of bps as soon as you click that prestige button.
The way i do it is i worked my way through p3 with trapper. When he was at p3 50, i took half my bps from a game and dumped them into trapper, the other half i saved. Rinse and repeat till i had a million saved up. Then i would dump that million into another character im prestiging. That way trapper slowly gains perks, i replenish his add ons and im p3ing other characters. Of course this was after I 40'd everyone.
I also save my iri shards up to 8000, when i got that i go to the shrine of secrets for an extra 650k.
I highly recommend p3ing freddy or doc first. Once youve got them p3 and all the perks for them, you can play them without add ons and still do well, so its literally all being saved for the character your p3ing. You dont have to, if you want to play someone else do so, you just have to spend bps replenishing add ons.
My solution is to just never prestige any character, ever. 😄

Undetectable doesn't counter any of the detection perks that survivors have access to (though it does counter Terror Radius perks like Borrowed Time and Stake Out). This means that Spine Chill, Premonition, Dark Sense, Object of Obsession, etc can all still detect an "Undetectable" killer.
All it gives the killer is no terror radius and no red stain.
I don't think the status itself needs to be buffed to counter the many perks that survivors can find the killer with, but I do really want for this "your perks can't see me" ability to be restored to Tier I Myers (and Tier II while using Vanity Mirror). It would be a good QoL improvement to help Myers shape up.
I'm sorry, but a lot of what you're saying here is just flat-out not true. Undetectable ABSOLUTELY hard-counters all aura reading perks, including Dark Sense and Object of Obsession. Any perks that show the killer's aura to you, in pink, are disabled by Undetectable. Spine Chill and Premonition do not show the killer's aura and are thus not impacted by the Undetectable status.
Here is the description of Undetectable, from the official DBD wiki:
Applies to a Killer's Stealth Mechanics. When a Killer is Undetectable, the following effects are applied:
- The Killer's Terror Radius is removed.
- The Killer's Red Stain is hidden.
- The Killer will not have their Aura revealed.
- The Killer does not trigger the jump-scare sound effect that plays when starting to move after standing still for a moment.
- The Killer sees the smoky screen visual effect, indicating stealth.

No, a killer can kill all 4 survivors and still depip, I see no reason why survivors should be the exception. Also if you escape and depip then you were utterly useless and deserve to derank.
Survivors shouldn't be the exception, and I don't see anyone trying to argue otherwise. Killers should ALSO absolutely never de-pip when a match ends with all survivors dead.

Sometimes, someone will engage and bring up a point that changes my perspective on something. I don't just go !!!! THING BAD, PLZ NERF NOW, and I don't have a bias toward or against any one role or style of play.
I have to assume that you believe, or at least will extend me the fundamental good-faith assumption, that I am being honest and genuine when I lay out my discussion points. I don't know how to convey that to you, other than saying to look at my post history, including this thread. I don't have some sort of an agenda. Wait, I thought the whole point of Undetectable was that it does counter survivor aura perks. The change to tier 1 Myers is that he used to be immune to Spine Chill, but after the update to the "Undetectable" status he lost the immunity to Spine Chill. What he gained was zero terror radius, so Myers no longer has to run M&A, but not being immune to Spine Chill anymore does hurt him. It was a nice feature of his tier 1 EW and I miss it.
Edit: Yeah, Undetectable is listed here as preventing the killer from having their aura revealed https://deadbydaylight.gamepedia.com/Status_HUD
Yeah, Undetectable definitely counters survivor aura perks. I run Kindred religiously, and if I see someone get hooked without a killer aura showing up, it is almost without fail a Scratched Mirror Myers (and he still gives me a heart attack every time he comes out of nowhere lol).
Undetectable doesn't counter stuff like Spine Chill and Premonition though, because those are not aura perks.

If you hook survivors without much of a chase or with certain killer 1 shot abilities and either they don't get saved/hook suicide you do not get enough chaser/malice? emblem and just like the image above do not gain enough points for a pip.
Thanks to the odd matchmaking this can happen frequently enough unless you les people go and artificially extend the match.
Yeah, this is just as backwards as survivors de-pipping on an escape.

@WRussoW said:
To be honest, I don't understand people who say that prestiging costs THAT much time and bloodpoints. If you compare the time you waste on P3 to the time you waste on getting all tier 3 perks, prestiging looks really cheap by that point.
For me, it's the fact that all those Bloodpoints spent on prestiging could have been put to much better use by spending them on a different character. It costs approximately 1.6 million BP to take a character from level 1 to level 50, so doing this 4 times would cost you 6.4 million BP. That's 4.8 million BP that could have been used getting four other characters from level 1-40.
And if you've already gotten all characters to 40 and unlocked their teachables, that 4.8 million BP would be much better served unlocking perks and/or juicing up your main characters inventories.
To me, prestiging seems like it only makes sense when there's literally nothing else left for you to spend BP on.
-
This isn't really how design works.
They aren't all-knowing, and they cannot see all use cases ahead of time. They don't set out to create meta perks, and there are most assuredly gameplay implications that they are unable to account for when they are designing this stuff. It's why perks like Mettle of Man get out the door in a completely broken state, and then have to be nerfed. It is completely appropriate for the designers to approach perk design in an altogether conservative manner, as from their perspective it is probably better for a perk to be a little bit underpowered and get buffed after they gather some data, than it is for a perk to be grossly overpowered and need a knee-jerk nerf.

Well I’ve been playing for 2 years so I’ve probably hit my skill cap
I started in Nov. 2018, and there have been various points where I have believed this about myself, but I keep at it and keep surprising myself, so don't give up.
As survivor, I got to a point where I assumed I would never make it past green ranks because I am so bad at looping and chases, but now I can consistently hit rank 4 every season as a solo player (although pipping in red ranks is another story). I still think I am a big potato when it comes to looping, but I have gotten semi-decent at mindgaming the shack and the easy double-window loops.
As killer, I bit the bullet a while ago and decided to commit deeply to Spirit, a killer that I was really bad with but wanted to put the time in to learn. I got to the point where I was able to predict survivor movements, catch them at windows, and triangulate location based on sound and movement visuals. I actually got pretty decent for my rank (although I have never gone above purple ranks as killer, alas). I took a break from the game for a while and am now pretty rusty with Spirit, but now I know I am capable of playing her semi-competitively for my rank band.
So yeah. You probably won't notice dramatic improvements all at once, but you will hone your game sense little by little, over time. Believe me, I am not special or great at these kinds of games in any way, so if I can keep learning new stuff even at higher ranks, so can you.
-
I dunno what to tell you, other than to keep practicing. Players are just way better at this sort of thing at high ranks.
-
@Volfawott said:
You do know that means I could basically sit in basement and do absolutely nothing but just spam emotes and just escape through Hatch that means I'll safety by default even though it's undeserved
I think this change would also have to accompanied by some catches to make sure killers can see other players (via repeated loud noise notifications) who choose not to engage in any meaningful action for some amount of time. At best, they would get carried and only receive a safety pip and effectively go nowhere, and at worst they would be a really easy target for the killer.

To compete against the opposing side, not to have a built-in advantage. The game is supposed to be balanced, not to handicap one side over the other.
Both sides have handicaps vs. the other side, but the handicaps are drastically different for each role. That is what makes it asymmetrical.
-
John Wick lol
-
I see people make this claim a lot, and I really don't understand it.
It's true that ranks don't carry a lot of incentive, in terms of having any sort of reward or really effective matchmaking structure around them. But many of us have obviously run the gamut from brown to red ranks ourselves, and have been grouped with all manner of other survivors. You can't honestly claim there is no difference between a yellow rank player and a red rank player.

I'm really hoping that it's some kind of secondary objective, like finding gas to fill the gens with, to spice up the gameplay a little.
The last thing that would improve the game is a secondary required objective that makes survivors wander the map aimlessly. It would basically be like requiring them to break multiple totems to get anywhere.
-
Left 4 Dead 2 still has a really active online community to this day. The downside is, if you're not already really knowledgeable about the game, you will run into a lot of people who will dismiss you and leave you behind.

Yep, this is super-dumb. You should get an automatic safety pip for escaping, because it is the game's central objective for the survivor role. If you are ever in a situation where being killed would result in a -1 pip, but you escape, it should just always move the needle into black pip territory.

No, they jumped down to those dead-ends with lockers. The Wraith was blocking that doorway.
Oh, it seems that I read this wrong, sorry. That sounds like a clear-cut holding-the-game-hostage scenario then, if the killer was blocking them from leaving the room.
-
Farming is not gonna get anyone banned unless you're holding the game hostage or working with the killer to target and harass a specific survivor. As long as survivors can choose to play the game normally, fix gens, and leave, it's fine.
