I like how people bring up the Mathieu getting instablinded thing like he got upset and went "nerf this now!!!" or something.
I remember it was either McLean or Almo talking about it, but they said those changes were already in the pipeline at that point. They had already been decided before that event.
Like, there's a whole process balance changes have to go through, it takes time and requires the team to agree on changes. One developer can't get beaten by something and then immediately nerf it, that's not how that works.
-
Doubt it, but telling someone to off themselves in the endgame chat probably warrants a permaban.

I'd say freddy's black box. iri tape and cenobite's engineer fang are pretty bad.
Engineer's Fang is insane? wdym

What about Chuckys hard hat?
True, with the removal of manual scampers that addon is WAY worse now.

I’d say either Iridescent Unpublished Manuscript (the SM addon) or Iridescent Videotape is the worst.
Iri Manuscript gives anything from 0.75% to 1.75% speed depending on the number of survivors tracked (but usually on the lower end). Haste is a strong effect, but not when you’re losing half your claw trap battery life for what is often less than a 1% speedboost. Personally I think her having haste in her kit at all is unhealthy and should be removed anyways, so I’d vote to rework this addon.
Iri Videotape literally just makes Sadako an m1 killer with a lullaby and some mobility at the expense of 2 downsides, one of which is losing basically all condemn slowdown. It’s not worth it at all and even if they removed the cooldown penalty it probably still wouldn’t be very good. Maybe they could try having it reduce condemn gain on teleport to 0.5 stacks (instead of 1 stack) rather than just eliminating it entirely so it doesn’t just take all of her condemn pressure away.
Also I agree with you that Hellshire Iron’s old effect was a lot better, they should bring it back.
For Pinky Finger maybe they could do that invigorated players gain an action speed bonus to vaulting (both survivors and killer) and breaking (only for the killer). Either way, the current one is both bad and also impossible to balance, it’s either terrible or OP and there’s no in between.
I think you're getting Manuscript and Expired Batteries mixed up. Manuscript is the Terror Radius one.
Anyway yeah both of those addons are really bad.

Hey, more Franklin's + Weave Attunement means more Object value :D

Oni's Iri that gives a mini infectious fright on missed hits is pretty bad in practice IMO.
You can use it if you don't know where someone is but you shouldn't be using your power in the first place without knowing someone's location.
Randomly running around bonking is a waste of time and even if you do find someone with it, you probably won't be able to snowball which weakens Oni a lot.
Missing a hit on a survivor and accidently finding someone else nearby could get some minor value.
You could also bonk the ground after a down to see if anyone is nearby for a flashy/snowball but at that point just use Infectious to save time and scan a bigger area.
In every video I've seen showing it off, the person would have gotten more value running Infectious, running any other add-on or would have found the person anyway because of scratch marks, blood etc.
Edit: Now if it worked on hits and misses both then it'd actually be pretty good IMO.
I think that one's pretty good. It makes it pretty much impossible to stealth out Blood Fury. You shouldn't really go around bonking random places, you need to have a bit of game sense about it.
It serves a different purpose to Infectious. I generally run them both together for maximum effect.

Both Artist's ultra rare add-ons are hella dogshit.
I completely forgot about those, honestly. Iridescent Feather is terrible, yeah, a huge penalty for an effect that won't even trigger half the time anyway.
However, I honestly don't think Garden of Rot is actually bad. Super underrated addon. You can get behind someone can force them to either take an instadown or reset the repel timer for a follow up. You just have to play around it a little. The exposed timer could do with a small increase, though.
Iri Feather could be Undetectable when the power is on cooldown at all, without a penalty, and it'd still not be amazing.
-
Nah, Pop is still pretty good. I'm still using it at least.
People were tunneling and slugging like there's no tomorrow even with the maximum amount of slowdown you could stack, so I don't really agree with the argument that a nerf will make people tunnel and slug more.

The knight add-on. Every fourth guard is crazy
Yeah, it's wild how many conditions it has. The stars have to align to even have the chance of getting its effect to work.
Obsidian Goblet I agree with but Seal actually does something (which is more than can be said about 85% of his addons). It's bad, sure, but I wouldn't put it among the worst.
He really does need an addon pass, though.

I'm just happy to see that people want a solution to the toxicity.
Ultimately, some people just suck. They want to win because they don't see themselves winning anything or anywhere else in life, which I hate for them, but that doesn't warrant acting like a piece of crap to a stranger. All that just to say, I wouldn't take it personal by any means, but I do understand the anger fully.
In terms of a solution, they're working on that finisher mori thing, but if I remember right, that's only for the last survivor in the trial. Stuff like you described though, where the killer is clearly gloating, I think that could have something like the anti-camp. Like, the killer is standing right next to a slugged survivor and isn't doing anything, after maybe ten(?) seconds a timer starts that'll let you pick yourself up. Otherwise, if they start running after someone else or whatever, it's just up to getting healed.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: I am by no means a professional game dev or balance guy or whatever. I'm just someone who enjoys DBD and tries my best to help everyone in whatever game I'm in have fun. I'm by no means perfect with even that goal, but I just don't see that need for being a piss-poor individual in a video game.
Yeah, this needs a solution from the game design end. There's a lot of things people can do to drag the game out longer to annoy people deliberately.
Things like anti-slug on a 2v1 (and reworking adepts to discount the hatch etc), a bleed out faster button, and a give up button for killer once the gates are open would be welcome changes for me.
-
It's probably still Pain Res + Pop.
Corrupt + Deadlock is good though.
-
I mean, it's a major event in the game.
It'd be like if Survivors weren't notified about someone getting hooked. It's really important information.
-
@Ohyakno said:
Certainly nerfs. You can spawn them inside survivors for unavoidable hits.
I mean, those kinds of hits are pretty rare, and also reactable if you're quick enough. 0.5s is within the span of human reaction time.
Compare how often you get these hits (like once per match TOPS) to how easy it is to dodge literally every single other hit from the skeletons.
-
I think you're massively overstating how much work Pop requires. It's literally just playing the game as usual and kicking a gen in a certain time window.
-
Deliverance is already extremely good. It has the ability to apply game-changing levels of pressure on the killer. It's one of the last perks that should be considered for a buff at the moment.
-
They should swap how regular and overcharge skill checks work.
@fussy said:
Agree on first point, but about second point: pretty sure you give hit if validation canceled grab. They changed it few years ago.
It doesn't give you a hit, it automatically makes you swing, which can screw you out of a hit itself. Here's a particularly egregious example:

Surely they are not nerfing Flight of the Damned insta-tech. Surely they are making it not crouchable, right?
God I hope so, there's literally no way a decent survivor is getting hit by it at all currently.

Shadowborn is still bad, unfortunately.
I'd like to see more perk buffs in general though.

Personally I love the darker maps, makes it look like a real horror game.
I love the new look of borgo personally. It's dark but that's a good thing. It feels desolate. It's improved both the vibes of the map AND the gameplay aspects.
-
Lethal is probably one of the most healthy perks in the meta at the moment. Up there with BBQ.
It's very effective, sure, but in a healthy way. I'd rather get Lethal than Corrupt, Pop or Pain Res.
Distortion works as a catch all counter to aura reading for the entire game unless it's a stealth killer or something. That's an option you could always consider.

I don't work at BHVR haha, I just post wayyyy to much about this game lol.
I was curious, so I hopped into a game as demo to test it. I don't think it's actually bugged at all. Your stun lasted about 1 second, but mine lasted ~1.3 seconds. It's REALLY hard to tell the difference but it's a bit more obvious when it's put side by side.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-01jLtNCIUI think it's a perception issue. It looks so similar that I was doubting myself the entire time through putting this little video together. Your stun lasted almost exactly 30 frames, whereas mine was about 38. (these videos were rendered at 30fps).

There a problem with that here, I ran my actual build without those perks with Corrupt, BQQ, Enduring, & NWO. Still, was getting that penalty. Before hand the perk was working fine until I did that build. After I played my build I normally run that I stated in here and I was getting that penalty without running the new perk.
Odd, you got a clip?
-
The new vault perk applies a penalty to Pallet Stun and Blind length. It's 25% for each.
So with Dark Arrogance and Enduring, you'll end up at about 75% default stun length.

It's sort of baffling being reminded that Licker Tongue has not been changed since Nemesis's release.
All the ideas here are good, hope we get this or at least close enough to this.
Fun fact: They actually changed it once.
When they released Mikaela, it was buffed from 0.15 to 0.20 seconds. This wasn't documented in the patch notes, though. It wasn't really a noticeable buff either.

I mean I HATE going against Blast Mine with a passion, but DS is more effective in general.

I really don't think that perk is worth it unless you run Spies from the Shadows.
Issue is without Spies from the Shadows you can't even tell who got exhausted.I mean you can just let it do its thing and it'll work. It's quite passive, as you're pretty much guaranteed to run into a crow mid-chase.
It also functions as a kind of mini-whispers, as you have to be within 36m of a Survivor for it to activate.

Doesn't that immediately proc when you scare a nearby crow have a cd?
The duration of Exhausted is 10s. The cooldown is 20s.
The Exhaustion timer might be too long, but I'm honestly not sure. I think it's too early to say and I haven't been seeing it all that much outside of adepts.
-
I play about 40/60 Survivor/Killer.
I've been countering Mage Hand pretty well. Especially with Interloper gear.
-
Perks are all decent. Killer is very fun. Decently strong too.
Mage Hand is getting a nerf to the pallet pick up speed soon so you might want to keep that in mind.

Adore Broken Coin and Iri Badge ideas especially, so interesting! They can just ctrl+c and ctrl+v it into the game right now honestly.Thank you!

Nah, sabo should not be "free" - its high risk - high reward, and its fun as hell for us, not as much for the killers.
It won't make it "free". It would just prevent the situations where you accidentally tap a hook and it goes on cooldown.
I don't think you'd be able to get hit, pull of a Saboteur sabo and then get away for free. You'd still have to trade.

@Peanits said:
Hey folks, now that we've had some time to see it play out and think it over, I wanted to give a quick update. We'll be making some changes to Mage Hand in one of our upcoming minor patches.
- We'll be slightly reducing Mage Hand's range to 14m (was 16m)
- We're reverting the pallet lift time to 0.5s (was 0.35s) - this is the same as the PTB version.
We'll also be reworking the Ring of Telekenesis add-on (which currently causes Mage Hand to pick up pallets quicker) to have a different effect since this turned out to be a very risky number to mess with.
And lastly, as a quick reminder, we'll be fixing a bug which caused Mage Hand to continue picking up a pallet after it stuns you (the stun will correctly cancel Mage Hand), so combining it with Enduring will no longer be an issue.
That kinda sucks. Not really a fan of that change. Is anything planned for Flight of the Damned?
Also, what will Ring of Telekinesis be reworked into?
Thanks for the update regardless :3
-
They need to get rid of the Exhaustion condition on Iron Will, the speed penalty on Calm Spirit and the Cooldown on Saboteur if you don't complete a sabotage.
-
@Aven_Fallen said:
I dont really see a point of this change. Sure, you would be able to activate it quicker, but IMO 4 seconds is not too long. And both, 4 seconds and 2 seconds but not while in chase, basically do the same which is avoiding Survivors to use the Perk while in chase to get information.
I think it should be 3 seconds. 4s is a bit clunky imo.

@n000b51 said:
It is nearly double his range, and he can't do anything at all against Survivors who run instantly the second they hear him. Both untress and Trickster have potentially unlimited range, so they do not suffer from this problem nearly as much.
Well, yesterday, a slinger shots me > 40meters in the distance (I wasn't in his terror radius) from the main in Garden of Joy on the edge of the map, near the shack.
Naturally it was a lost shot bc I could escape (but with an injury) from his harpoon but it was a nice shot.
I don't know how limited is his range but except that, an extended range for his weapon doesn't seem to be useful.
The problem with the deathslinger still was his instant aiming with so few cooldown/penalty for cancelling it. He is almost silent when he is aiming…Thirdly, the survivor collision hitbox feels a tad too small. You get instances where it looks like the harpoon will pass through players, and it's really annoying.
And on the contrary, his fastiest shot can go through some very very small holes of the environnement when the huntress' hatchets have to go over the environnement.
So I don't know… I'm a bit doubtful, but.. it is the survivor who speaks here…There is absolutely no way he can shoot over 40m. He must've had an Undetectable perk or something.
His max range is 18m. There is no way to extend it.
-
Bubba's basekit changes were more significant than Slinger's, I think. Bubba got speed increase, duration increase, tantrum time buff and a collision buff. Slinger got a negligible reel speed buff, a reload movement speed buff (which is pretty nice actually) and a standardization for breaking the chain.
If you run the numbers, pre-nerf AWC is 9 seconds, while post-nerf AWC is 8.7 seconds. 0.3s is pretty negligable, as combined with the speed buffs, AWC has only lost about 1m of distance.
-
Most of my matches on launch day were against Vecna. A couple of Bubbas sprinkled in.
-
I can report that the wiggle bug is NOT just specific to Vecna. I had the exact same thing happen to me in a trial against a Doctor.
-
@Dustin said:
I'm tired of balance changes that happen 6-12 months or even longer unprompted under the guise that it was a bug fix without prior word that it was a bug.
I don't care what anyone says - it clearly wasn't a bug. You just can't leave a "bug" in the game for almost half a year or in some cases years and then change it without any communication and claim it's a bug so you have an excuse.
I mean, to be fair, the bug wasn't present for 6-12 months. It was one PTB.
They intended to remove Scamper outside of S&D with this update alone. It being present on that specific PTB was a bug. Anything before that, Window Scampers were intended.
Whether Window Scampers being gone is a good thing is a different discussion, but this was not BHVR claiming Window Scampers as a whole were a bug, it was an intentional balance decision.
-
Going back to endless torrents of 4 slowdowns and 4 exhaustion perks is going to be a tough one to stomach, honestly.
I liked having to improvise with what I got. It was a fun challenge.
It also highlights what perks need updating quite well, some perks are just SUPER bad.
If I get Teamwork: Collective Stealth again I'm gonna lose it!!! -
The difference is Autodidact actually does something.
-
I was using it before it got buffed to 30%. It was still good.
