For me, going against a competent Freddy is one the most boring things in this game. I wouldn't say he's the strongest killer but he's so god damn good for his lack of skill ceiling. You barely need to learn his mechanics to start getting constant 3/4ks.
The passive Dream World timer is extremely short. If you want to wake up you either run to the opposite side of the map and waste so much time going to the alarm clock, or you fail a skill check and he knows exactly where you are. Even when you're awake, you see him for 2 seconds, then he goes invisible for 2 seconds. You can't see him far away so you don't know always know when to leave the gen you're on.
Looping him is boring, there's almost no point except to throw the pallet down early (which is just wasteful) or risk it being a fake one, or him putting down snares to stop you looping and getting a hit.
I get they can't rework him without discussing it with the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise owners, but damn it's so boring to verse a Freddy.
By boring do you mean challenging?
-
Because against even a half decent team the killer needs to remove one person off the map rapidly in order to stand a chance, given how garbage most of the killers available to play as are.
I used to hate moris too, then I played killer and now I understand.

This is funny because it's true.
Some SWF groups are SO DETERMINED for the 4-man escape that they will simply refuse to leave no matter what.
One time I was doing a tome that required me to get a sacrifice during the EGC. So I figured...what the hell, I'll just let them do gens, let them open the gate, get one hook with Bubba and let the rest leave.
Spoiler alert: They friggin' refused to leave. Even with me just standing at the hook with chainsaw revving, they refused. Ultimately the hooked one ended up dying, one died to time running out, and the other two just barely scraped by. Of course, they were all kicking and screaming about how unfair it all was in the postgame chat, even after I explained why.
Exactly! It's the kryptonite of SWF, they're way too altruistic to their detriment. If I play the usual way with them one will just loop me with no end in sight so I'll break chase and move on to pressure gens and then the next one I chase does the same thing. It's not as bad now with some of the infinite loops removed but for a while it was like just move on from one infinite loop to the next. They can make nonstop perfect plays but the second you camp someone or slug someone and camp them while they're down on the ground they can't function at all.

This is also a problem I have though. Being forced to run 1 of 2 perks to not get gen-rushed is an issue in itself (old Ruin flashbacks). Being forced to play top-tier meta killers to not get gen-rushed is an issue.
For Clown I do feel like he'd need a lot of changes to be a viable killer. I'd even argue Freddy needs another rework, but not for the same reasons as his prior one.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1252539#Comment_1252539
Haha, as I do play a lot of Leatherface, this is something I quite enjoy. BBQ, NoED, Insidious, Infectious Fright (because I am scared of flashlight saves). I usually end up being abused in the post-game lobby because I facecamped, but 3 of them chose to not do gens while I was facecamping so 😶
I love Freddy how he is! I think he's one of the few killers that inspires genuine fear in most survivors, and that's a good thing. but to each their own.
I set my profile to private so I don't hear the salt lol
For me when I LF camp it's always a group where almost all 3 other players are literally running around the downed player the whole time so it's kind of like ... what else is there to do anyway ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I literally had that happen one match in the basement and all 3 just rushed the hook at the same time ... while I had the chainsaw revved and ready to go. Shortest match I've ever played.
-
Just do what I do, when you see what looks like a 4 player SWF of tryhard red ranks in the lobby just load in first-hook-facecamping-leatherface.
Trust me.
-
I felt the same way for a while and I even posted my $.02 on it in some older post where someone was saying the same thing. I got tired of being roasted by him as a solo survivor.
Then I played as the Doctor. Against a 4 player SWF. Changed my mind about the doctor permanently.
If anything his cooldown on his static blast at default is too long.
Try playing as the doctor up until about rank 16, which is when the trash matchmaking system starts to kick in to full effect.
You'll see what I mean. Have fun!
-
idk seems like a lot of pallets to me
-
Playing against Freddy will only seem brain dead if you're used to being a brain dead survivor
-
Definitely! Maybe with a touch of cosmic horror would be perfect!
-
You should try Friday the 13th or if you can the new predator game.
Those will probably keep you busy until they sort out the matchmaking stuff.
-
I would totally love to play as the spider version of Stripe but you know what would top even that? ...
-
If I suspect someone is below my rank I take it easy on them.
If someone throws in BPS or an escape cake I try to keep it in mind not to kill anyone too early in the game.
I let the last person escape if they all played a fun, decent game or if they seemed like rank 20s.
I give rank 20s a lot of second chances actually.
When I get paired with red ranks it's no holds barred. I'll slug, tunnel, facecamp, mori and close the hatch and tunnel them down. I despise red rank players.
-
I'm totally with you on this but...
Just hear me out.. how about ...
-
My opinion as solo survivor - Mori's are kind of awesome. It's a cool animation and beats getting facecamped or tunneled. I can just go into another match right away so whatevs
My opinion as killer - Moris are awesome. It's a cool animation and beats chasing 4 people around and having to hit them twice and hook them up to 3 times for each person within like 5-15 minutes.
My opinion when playing SWF - You shouldna done that, he was just a boy.
-
How about just getting rid of the hook from the game entirely?
-
Here, I got so motivated I captured some footage and even added in some video effects.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihN-UrAsCBI&t=4s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENrscXS9tZA1. No camping hooks
2. First 2 minutes no one gets downed
3. No tunneling
4. No slugging
5. No basement hooks

No need. The matchmaker did this multiple times in 2019, and did it again in November 2019 and was still doing it in December 2019 when I finally gave up and left. Fast forward to April 2020, and here we still are with the matchmaker.
Oh, but don't worry. Fear not denizen of the Fog. BHVR is now working on a Hidden MMR system that will be the savior and fix all.
I'm not a betting man, but given their history with a matchmaker in DbD, I wouldn't get too excited about it being done well.
I know, it's so sad. This game could be so awesome but it just .. isn't. At least half the time.
There's a load of AAA horror games coming out later this year, supposedly. I'm biding my time and will probably be switching to something else once they do.
-
As killer I hate the meat packing plant .. this sounds bad but I can never find the stairs fast enough
As survivor I hate the backwater swamp, it's so hard to not get spotted sometimes because there's lots of high ground and all the gens seem to be on the low ground, plus there's a few areas with buildings that have high ground positions for the killer to scope out the map, I've only ever had success on it with my blendette and running urban evasion. The match was like 30 minutes of sweaty sneaking in the bushes

There just is No Way
This is what ALL my matches are starting to look like! All the way from rank 20 and now I'm at rank 16 .. not even exaggerating. I can start taking screenshots

If you choose to not down people for two minutes then you’re running yourself to lose, slugging has a counter which is spreading out and picking the slugged survivor up at a safe time. You don’t need to handicap yourself for a challenge, the other players are what is meant to challenge you, not self-made rules. It also isn’t the killers job to accommodate for survivors mistakes or leave the hook while others are nearby.
Agreed that you don't need to accommodate anyone else for their shortcomings but you should probably definitely make accommodations for sportsmanlike conduct. There's a difference.

I'm sorry but asking the Killer to not down anyone for the first 2 minutes of the game or break chase after 40 seconds is not "Playing fair"
It's deliberately giving the other side an advantage.
It's like if I as a survivor wait until the first person who is hooked enters second stage. It makes no sense why I would do this unless I would cripple myself.
And what do you mean it's unsportsmanlike? If the game allows it, then it is allowed. It's within the confines of the game. It's sportsmanlike.
I don't slug or camp but those two methods can be effective at obtaining kills. So I understand, even as a survivor, why a killer would do that. It is of course ineffective to survivors that know what they are doing, because they can play around that.
Also asking the Killer to not use a very clear advantage, the basement hook, just doesn't make any sense.
There is a challenge, and then there is crippling yourself.
A challenge allows you to do your best in hopes of you besting it.
What you just described is crippling yourself during the match just to be "Sportsmanlike" according to your definition, not the devs.
Just because it's possible doesn't make it sportsmanlike. I know it. You know it. Everyone knows it. Same is true for almost every game and sport under the sun.
Sounds like you're scared of a challenge. Talk is cheap. I'll tell you what, I'll post some match results or video using those tactics and you do the same. IF you're playing against your own rank/skill level it shouldn't be a problem.
-

I'v already said this like 20 times. There's definitely instances where it makes sense to use some those tactics. Do you not know how to read?
-
I think there's room for it to be toxic like previous people have commented, but to a large extent it's just another strategy.
I'll slug if there's some sweaty SWF team standing by in plain sight or rushing to save the person I just downed. I've actually had this happen multiple times. A whole group of three other players all in plain sight like 6 feet away from em and the downed survivor and they're all either waiting for an opening to come in and heal them or flashlight blind me and then heal them or they just outright start rushing me to heal and take hits in the hopes they'll get the person up. What happens is if they get the person up then I just easily and immediately down them again and it's not fun for them or me, the only people having fun are the three other SWF players. I've literally had to just stand over a survivor until they bled out because this happened and there was no other strategy to deal with it. On the occasions where I've been playing as leatherface and this happened I literally just used the chainsaw and downed all four survivors in one shot. Like, srsly ######### were they thinking?
Otherwise I'll slug if I know I'm playing against a squad of solo players and the person is on their last hook (death hook) and I know they haven't gotten much or very good play time. I'll slug them and leave and patrol some gens so their teammates can heal them up and get them back in the game. Then, where possible, I'll try not to focus on them if I end up spotting them right away after they have gotten healed. I'll only do this once per match and only under those circumstances where the person hasn't really gotten much play time or it really would be frustrating for them to be killed. It's very situational but I try to make a good judgement call on it in the service of providing a good clean, fun match for everyone.
-
Matchmaking and ranking is definitely elaborate in this game but also not very well thought out, plus bugs in the programming itself that screw it up.
I just focus on getting bloodpoints and trying to play the game as it was intended to be played.

That's kinda giving the killer an unrealistic checklist and rules to abide by.
Ergo, the Survivor's Rulebook for Killers.
While yes Killers should play fair, they shouldn't have to always abide by these rules to play fair.
So you admit that you're playing using all the exploits in the game?
That's not going to be a challenge for anyone, on either side of the game. You're not fully comprehending what I've been saying either. I've already said in that comment and in others on here that a lot of those rules are situational to an extent. If you get a bunch of people hook rushing in plain sight then it does make sense to stay near the hooked survivor etc etc
I've also already stated that yes, survivors also have a full list of unsportsmanlike behavior they can engage in as well, which you are apparently not paying attention to despite me having very clearly and succinctly explained all of this.
I'll say it again, any killer could get a 4k every game if they used all the exploits and played completely unrestrained. The same goes for survivors (ie you can play SWF and coordinate perks, items and add ons with one another and then proceed to hook rush, gen rush, teabag, flashlight abuse etc etc)
This is unsportsmanlike on both sides. Just because the game allows for it doesn't mean that it's sportsmanlike. If we're all being honest with ourselves we can all admit that the game isn't perfectly developed and leaves room for unsportsmanlike conduct. This is evident in the fact that the game has been in ongoing development since it was first released and new patches come out regularly to address any balance or fair play issues.
Try and play a clean match without crutching on exploits and unsportsmanlike conduct. Let's see you get a 4k every match then

constructive feedback for who? for 20% of the playerbase of killer mains? The moment i stepped in onto these forums i realized its pointless and im not wasting my time anymore cause my feedback is going to be lost around "git gud" kind of posts. And like i said plenty of things said here is ignored because its only about 20% of the playerbase.
This also basically sounds like confirmation of my suspicions that you're playing using unsportsmanlike tactics and strategies.
Post some of your match results for us while abiding by the following:
No camping
No basement hooks
No tunneling, break chase after 30-40 seconds
Set a timer at the beginning of the match, no downs until 2 minutes into the match
No slugging
No proxy camping either
This isn't to single out killers either, I could easily make a similar list for survivors.

I do appreciate those of you who have tried to help and haven't been dicks about it. But it drives me nuts when I hear people tell me that I just need to learn to do things differently. It's hard to learn and adjust to what perks you have when you're not being given a fair opportunity to practice with those said perks. This isn't a FPS where the mechanics are easy to understand and fairly straight-forward.
For example, if you're playing as a survivor and the killer is clearly more experienced than you, it gets real hard to learn the basics of the game (let alone the perks) if you can barely survive for more than 2 minutes. And that's not a fault on the more experienced player, that's a fault on the matchmaking system.
I know what you mean!
I started playing killer to get a break from struggling as a solo survivor all the time. My first few matches of killer were fun and casual and before anyone says anything I was playing against my own ranks or close to and I'm more casual about my gameplay when playing killer. I don't really mind it if everyone escapes or I don't do well as long as it was fun for the most part. So my first few matches I was abiding by not camping and trying to keep mindful of whether or not I was tunneling anyone.
Then the MM system started spitting out red rank SWF groups and then it just became this frustrating, sweaty and humiliating experience every other match. So I used to be a salty survivor main and now I can sympathize with the killer mains.
It's a stupid game and poorly thought out but when it's fun it's a blast, so until they fix matchmaking the best I can do is try to focus on doing what I can to make it fun for me even when I get crappy matches. I think the hook is a stupid game mechanic, in all honesty, and would rather it just be like you can kill survivors after downing them and give survivors more objectives to do that would grant them different means of escape.
-
idk I found huntress challenging, but never op enough to be frustrating. I think she's pretty well balanced. She feels scary to play against but like there's still a decent chance to win.
It's possible to dodge and counter her hatchets. You need to duck/crouch in front of objects (directly in front, if you're not right up against them it doesn't work) and then her hatchets just hit the object. Works great around pallets.
If you get the hang of looking behind you while running away it helps with dodging her hatchets too.
-
I know those feels.
Solo survivor gets the shaft just as bad as killer lately.
-
I've had those matches too, I'm in noobie ranks and getting matched with red ranks.
I've had good luck with trapper running distressing paired with unnerving presence. If I ever unlock infectious fright that would go well with those two perks also.
You need to focus on perk combos that boost or complement each other. Same strategy with add ons and try to use ones that will slow the match down. I like running the add ons for trapper that add mangled or hemorage effects. It slows down the match forcing survivors to self heal unless they want to die.
To be good at trapper you need to play a lot of survivor to understand where the best spots to place traps are on each map. Myers is next to impossible for me, I just can't deal with how slow he moves at low levels so I haven't bothered to level him up.
I always try to focus on patrolling gens as priority number one, then chases etc. This usually gets me at least 1-2 kills and plenty of BP.
Which isn't to say the MM isn't absolute garbage. Because it is. I still end up getting matches where everyone escapes and teabags the whole time, but just trying to offer constructive advice.

This! If you feel like something is easy just shoot yourself in a leg. Great response.
Your response just makes it seem like you're not really looking for constructive feedback, but rather just looking for people to validate what you're saying, which is unlikely to happen because you just don't make a very persuasive case. You honestly sound like another hostile, angry, toxic player that this game unfortunately tends to produce due to its balance issues. Most of those issues could probably be resolved with a better matchmaking system and by borrowing concepts or mechanics from other asymmetrical games that are less toxic and have less polarized communities.
You're the one who complained about how easy your matches are, and again, your response just shows that you're probably not challenging yourself.
I could probably get a 4k every match if I played completely unrestrained and used every tactic that survivors despise. That's not to say I don't use some of those strategies myself in very limited circumstances. If the whole team is hook rushing in clear view the second I down someone or put them on the hook then yeah, I'd probably stick close to the downed survivor. If I haven't gotten any kills and the exit gates are open, yeah I'm probably going to camp that survivor I just hooked, unless I get the distinct sense that their whole team kind of sucks and so do they then I might wander off and give them a chance to get rescued. It's all situational, but you really can't complain if you find it easy when you're not challenging yourself.
The same could be said on the survivor side. You could easily form a tight SWF and all bring flashlights and meta perks and use every dirty tactic in the survivor handbook such as flashlight clicking, god loops, body blocking, hook sabotaging, hook rushing, rushing downed teammates, and gen rushing but then you're not really challenging yourself either. Instead you could limit flashlights to flashlight saves and the occasional pallet break blind and create a perk build you think might be fun as opposed to one that's coordinated to inflict absolute misery. You could also challenge yourself to limit the amount to which you use any single pallet or loop.
The problem is when people don't play with any limitations because doing so is essentially just exploiting the bugs and shortcomings of the game mechanics.
I'm not going to judge anyone for how they play, but I think people do need to be honest with themselves about the difference between unsportsmanlike and sportsmanlike conduct. In most games you have the opportunity to play either or and with this game people tend to mistake the fact that just because something is possible then that means it's sportsmanlike. That's just not true. The fact that the game keeps getting tweeked and updated is evidence enough that this isn't true and the game itself is continually evolving to try and achieve a state of balanced and fair gameplay with less opportunities for unsportsmanlike conduct.

I don't think NOED is a problem. But I do think that everyone (killer and survivors) should get a notification when a totem is destroyed. Just a simple pop up indicating the number of remaining totems. This would have an indirect nerf effect on NOED since if you know your team mates are breaking totems it would increase your desire to break them given the opportunity as well. But even as a killer I don't get mad when survivors break all the totems. At the very least that means I wasn't gen rushed so I still got value out of the perk.
That's really the deepest flaw with NOED. There's no way of knowing for sure if you got all the dull totems unless you did them all yourself (speaking for solo survivors). A simple counter in the corner of the screen would solve the issues it poses for solo players.
I still don't like the idea of nerfing it at all, but that's the most balanced suggestion I've seen.
-
Don't camp at all. If you see a survivor near a recent hook you can chase them but can't down the rescued survivor if they unhook them.
No slugging.
No tunneling. You break chase after 35 seconds regardless of what's happening.
The first 2 minutes of the game you don't get to down anyone. Set a timer at the beginning of the match.
No one is allowed to be killed until everyone has been on the hook at least once.
No basement hooks allowed.
Follow those rules for a few matches. Then it should be challenging again.
-
Maybe instead of a siren song she could create auditory illusions when near survivors instead of a terror radius? Like they hear sounds that other survivors make when moving around or working on gens?
Or maybe her siren song is her terror radius and she can make it so every survivor hears it, similar to the doctors red stain illusions?
There's also the myth of the selkie. That might make a good hex perk. Her selkie skin gives her some sort of major buff until it's found. Maybe it's something that is hidden in one of the lockers in the game or something?
I also like the ghost of Davie Jones or the I know what you did last summer killer too.
-
No, there's already lots of counters to NOED.
You can do bones. It's actually kind of fun if you make it your main objective and keep a map handy or use detective's hunch.
You can bring an insta heal for teammates
You can bring no one left behind and combo with that other perk that speeds up unhooking (cant remember its name) or resilience for teammates
Unbreakable might help
On the toxic side you already have hook rushing body blockers with flashlights and decisive strike. Have you ever played against a red rank SWF that strategically all body block the same person, then three of them simultaneously flashlight blind you while teabagging?
I get that NOED can be frustrating if you're playing solo survivor but honestly half the time just having urban evasion and spine chilll can get you past the exit gate if a killer is camping the gate with NOED. The only time I've had problems with NOED while playing solo survivor was when the exit gates are super close together. It's still doable if you're super sweaty and tryhard. The best way to play solo survivor is to assume that every killer has NOED, BBQ, Nurse's calling, Iron maiden, and bitter murmur.
-
I agree, there needs to be a nautical themed killer.
It would be hard for them to be aquatic tho, because how are they walking and breathing on land?
Maybe a ghost pirate?

I give you credit for playing both sides and discovering the truth. Many claim "nothing is wrong. Just apply pressure and git gud" yet they don't play killer. They say they hit r1 both sides but when you hit r1 is a big difference. If you hit r1 before the emblems id say you played killer well. After emblems it's not hard to rank up. After ruin was destroyed, ranking up as survivor is easy.
haha yeah, I get it now, for the most part. I've found that the higher the rank, the more toxic the survivor, and the opposite for killers for the most part. It wouldn't be a problem if the matchmaking actually worked. Almost all the matches I played today as killer were me (bb killer at rank 16) against red and purple ranks, some green, and almost no lower ranks. Pretty sure a majority were SWF too. The super sweaty kind that hook rush and body block, flashlight click and teabag.
Held my own alright for a few matches.
Never had an issue with the old ruin either btw, even as solo survivor. It spiced things up

The problem with hexes is RNG. It gladly spawns them in the open fields or on hills with no cover so everyone can see it from 60 meters away. I stopped using it when I got 4 games in a row where it spawned a survivor at my hex and I Was losing my perk inside 15s of the game each time.
Nothing will be done to help killers though. If it inconveniences SWF, it inconveniences their money and so we're just taken for schmucks.
I haven't played enough killer yet to understand that frustration too much. I only just got NOED haha
What I did notice as survivor tho was how random all the totems spawn. The few times I legit was like "I'm just going to cleanse all the dull totems as my main objective" I couldn't find all of them for several matches in a row. Then I brought a map to help me out and was stunned by how obscure and random the dull totems spawn and how obvious the hex totems spawned.
-
I played a lot of solo survivor. Like a lot. And yeah, I noticed after the last patch the gens actually got faster. Not a LOT faster, but enough to make me chuckle the first time I played after the new patch, as I was thinking about all the salty killer mains I knew were complaining about gen speeds.
Then I started playing killer main... (╥﹏╥)
-
I just cleanse totems. When you know you have someone on gens and someone already distracting the killer it's an easy way to contribute without wasting time trying to find a gen to work, especially on some of the maps that have a lot of one-person gens. It's actually kind of relaxing just fiddling with the totems. No skill checks. Just me and my bones.
-
I had this happen once as a killer. I tunneled the $%*£ out of the person trying to help me and facecamped them and then let two of the others go scott free for the most part, just in case that first player was still spectating.

-SWF are the majority of all games now
-Comms means hooked survivors can tell each other who we are going for from 60m+ away and can do gauranteed tug-of-war for gens with the killer where every second you keep them off one gen is a second wasted and you're forced to yield gens.
-Pallets are every 10m in some maps, where all killers except nurse and ranged killers are locked into extremely long pallet chases. SWF also tell each other when you decide not to break pallets so they know areas of the map are still usable.
-Body-blocking with DS and Mettle of man active so you can't punish unhooking and if you go for the unhooked survivor they body block and fire DS anyway since everyone takes that perk now
-Anti-tunneling perks like DS are allowed to stack because it's convenient, so survivors can stack DS on you so you're banned from getting hooks even during EGC Where you would think tunneling is definitively impossible
-New sabotage rework means that you sabotage hooks in 2.5s and even if we hit you it does nothing to stop your timer and you are guaranteed to get the sabotage anyway.
-Killers get no points if they do anything to you at the gates. If you leave but get hit at the same time, we get no points or anything for it.
-One of the only killers with enough mobility to cover most of the maps, Nurse, got nerfed and now every killer with mobility has an extreme giveaway (e.g. the nightmare visibly makes gens bleed before he teleports to them, and hag has a maximum range and has to pop up in your face before even deciding to teleport)
-Killers without mobility got shafted hard by the nerf to Hex Ruin and we have almost nothing now to truly delay gen-rushing, if we engage in chasing at all the gen-rush happens irrespectively and low-mobility killers like shape just can't physically reach gens to use things like pop goes the weasel in time. The one or two perks that kind of still help are locked behind DLC or waiting weeks / months for the shrine to offer it.
The game exceptionally favors survivors and SWF has become the norm but the game has not been changed in the slightest to reflect it. That's why killers justify toxicity. There's no incentive to rank up at all, it's SWF All over the place now and killers have a tougher time ranking up compared to survivors anyway, so detterence like facecamping causing pip loss is pointless because the rank system itself is pointless.
Dude, A week ago I would have argued with you, but after finally being able to play killer since console got dedicated servers I totally get it!
I agree 100%
What's astonishing for me is that when I play survivor I swear it feels like there's never enough pallets to last me longer than a 20-40 second chase.
When I play killer I'm like "Where the hell are all these pallets coming from? This map NEVER gives me this many pallets???" lol
I never had an issue with ruin as a survivor, it was kind of fun looking around for that glowing totem. The one I absolutely HATED as survivor was iron maiden. Not because I hide a lot, just because the few times I did, the killer always had this perk.
