    1. How did they get to low mmr? Did they run the killer for 5 gens and die a hero repeatedly? Did that killer keep getting SWFs sending them to bad match ups for maps? Conversely, how did someone get to high mmr? The killer tunneled their way up? That survivor be a rat letting the team do the heavy lifting? Just because someone is low mmr wouldn't make whatever they said untrue or less valid, especially when you don't know how they got this "score".
    2. Yet this curiosity comes with a can of downsides that simply hiding it solves.
    1. Escaping a trial more than you die is how you get to high MMR, the fact that you can loop the killer for 5 gens, still get sacrificed at the end and lose MMR is a flaw with the SBMM system. They should just add defeat protection from IDV or just make the sacriced survivor (running the killer for 5 gens) gain MMR at the end if the other 3 survivors escape. The MMR system as a whole would be perfect if every killer had similar powers, tiles were fair and perks didn't have that much effect on the match and maps were midsized. Kilers get more or less MMR depending on the order that the survivors are sacrificed. Patrick one of the former devs that was the head of the MMR at the time so to speak, said in of the Q and A's that the game is conducted as 4 separate 1v1's.
    2. Can you please explain this?
  • New players and a new rework. low and mid level players were clearly getting stomped by him and probably are still to this day.

It makes sense, why would you listen to people at low MMR anyway? This applies to a lot of things in irl situations as well.

The why is their opinion matters.

If someone has a family and a job and they only get to play the game a couple of times a week, their opinion matters.

If someone is hard of hearing or has poor reflexes, their opinion matters.

If someone is a horror fan and rarely plays video games but likes DbD, their opinion matters.

And because many players at low MMR are the player who will one day be at high MMR, but only if they stick around to play the game. The success of a game requires retaining as many of your players as you can, not catering to a specific segment.

So would you want to balance the game for? Casual players or the veterans because if you balance it for the casuals, the veterans suffer and vice versa. A lot of my friends who played this game for years quit this game a long time ago due to BHVR's balance decisions the last year, SBMM one of the biggest reasons.

  • @crogers271 said:

    Almost certainly not.

1: People would basically discount the opinions of those not at high MMR, much like those with hours under 4 digits can get discounted

2: Publishing MMR would make people play toward that system. MMR is there to ensure roughly equal matches, its not meant to be about how people play or what a win is.

3: It's not meant to be a precise ranking. People get upset about the idea that they can run a killer for 5 gens, die at the end, and lose MMR. It's not supposed to matter to the players though, its just supposed to be a rough number for matchmaking.

How it works to my knowledge

Kills/escapes to gain/lose MMR, hatch counts as nothing

Quick matches give less MMR, 10 minutes or over give full

Survivor MMR gain/loss is adjusted by the escapes/deaths of others. When they announced this I thought it applied to everyone, but now I generally hear people say it just means SWFs.

At a certain level the ability to gain MMR becomes very difficult (hard cap).

Killers have their own MMR, but each player also has an average MMR that applies to all their killers.

The amount you gain / lose depends on the MMR of the opponent. If you lose to someone with a much higher MMR, neither party really moves in either direction.

I've heard that their is anti-smurfing protection so that experienced players who start new accounts jump up much quicker, but I have no idea on the mechanisms of how it works

    1. It makes sense, why would you listen to people at low MMR anyway? This applies to a lot of things in irl situations as well.
    2. I agree with this but i don't think that this is all black and white. I genuinely think a lot of players just wanna know their MMR and know how the system works.
    3. Agreed. It was an extremely accurate system in the beginnning, remember when Dowsey had to sit in a queue for 4 hours as twins and when he finally got a match, he got destroyed? Game was literally unplayable during that whole time, it was literally sweat squads all the time and queues were atleast 5 minutes long.
  • @OPXtreme_ttv said:

I'm genuinely curious as to know my own and how gaining it and losing it works

i doubt it. Choy made a video about this and he got his fans who wanted know their MMR denied their MMR by BHVR because of legality reasons.

Like every 1-3 months. I really want to know what the kill rates for Ghoul is, because it has to be outrageous. I'm only playing until the end of the event until the killer gets less popular. I've been playing since the Nemesis release and have never complained about a killer release before this one, but this game is basically not playable as is. Its bad enough to have an over powered/unfair killer, but then the fact the killer is as popular as Wesker was, and on top of that you basically have zero chance because so many survivors give up (understandably so). Idk how anyone plays. If not for the event, I certainly wouldn't.

Of the 53 matches I've played during the event, 18 have been Ghouls. During those 53 matches, there has only been 1 four survivor escape. Since Ghoul's release, the average kills in my matches have been at 3.0 or about 75%. In the 555 matches before this event, the average kills I've seen were 2.4, so killer sided but reasonably so. The game works best with somewhat of a killer advantage. But 75%? That's pretty bad.

I also track gen completion and an unrelated bit of trivia is the average gen completion in my matches before and during the event are exactly the same, 3.7 gen completion on average. So that would suggest to me the new gens are more likely to get done, but that hasn't helped survivors at all somehow. Most likely due to Ghoul just being stupid strong.

I want to know if my experience is an anomaly or if the matches really are this bad for most other survivors. BHVR should release more stats, more frequently to answer this question.

Why exactly? The stats literally mean nothing

Mandy is right. Most people underestimated him in the ptb and called him weak. Some said he is just another legion, who is considered weak…..

About „majority of the playerbase are survivor mains“, this doesn‘t matter. Most people in this forum are killer biased and guess who gives most feedback in the forum ptb section. In general killer players are a lot louder in the dbd than survivor players.

"About „majority of the playerbase are survivor mains“, this doesn‘t matter." How exactly does this not matter? How are the majority of the people in the forums killer biased when anytime they say something they get downvoted all to hell? The killer players might be louder but that goes back to my previous point.

Not to mention, they also need to shift through the opening week data and sort out the genuine problems from people just complaining for the sake of complaining. They can't just "nerf hammer" everything, especiallyu nowadays.

"The numbers, BHVR! What do they mean?"

  • @Mandy said:

I'm going to step in on this one right away - a killers power has nothing to do with sales first of all, two completely separate departments that work independent of each other!

The feedback about The Ghoul on PTB was incredibly mixed, with some saying buffs were needed and some saying nerfs were needed, in fact more were saying "D tier killler" than there were saying that he was a strong killer. So whilst the feedback is useful to us, its not set in stone at how players would react once the Chapter hit live.

Bugfix Patch 2 is the earliest one to get any changes into after content has gone live, the first patch is normally addressing things found in the PTB or internal testing. It's why there's no changes in this PTB to The Ghoul, as the PTB is based on the current Live game.

There is no way in hell that more people were saying that he was a D-tier when the majority of the playerbase are survivor mains, let's be honest here.

  • Shoulder The Burden always was a strong perk, the ability to deny a hook state on a survivor is always going to be busted especially if that survivor was on death hook

  • Blood generators not being affected by majority of the killer perks is why the killer you are seeing is only the strong killers and Kaneki because he is the newest killer in and one of the most fun killers we had in a long while imo.

  • I feel like they made the blood generators skill less in order to incentivize players to play the survivor role

Choy needs to stop playing DBD all he does is complain about the game and attack bhvr.. I don't understand why content creators force themselves to play a game they hate sooo much.. Their negativity spreads to their community and then innocent people just trying to play the game get attacked.. Choy and others like him should just go find a game they have fun playing and play it.. No one is forcing them to play dbd.. I mean go play civ 6 or something.

It's called passion for the game, the guy obviously wants this game to succeed. The biggest reason why people hate this game and still play it is because you cannot get what is in this game anywhere else. That's why people hate this game but continue to play it because there is no competition. Like for an example, i am a Freddy main and if some dev team decided to make a Nightmare On Elm Street multiplayer game, i would be off of this game instantly. TCM is a dead game and the people that came from DBD came back to DBD once they saw how bad the game was, same thing happened with The Evil Dead game. If it was not for the license chapters, this game would be dead a long time ago. You got Leatherface and Myers being the first licensed chapters introduced to this game and then Freddy came back after that we got Pig, Stranger Things, Silent Hill, nearly the whole Resident Evil franchise etc etc which drew the audience to this game to play as their favorite franchises. You are not going to beat DBD with a single franchise.

  • Content creators as a whole for this game are a double-edged sword imo.

This entire statement is beyond wild. If all the gen regression perks were nerfed to the ground as so many of you band wagon killers claim, then why are they still the most used perks in the game? You all wanted to overuse them so they got nerfed, that's how it works. You all tunnel so anti-tunnel perks get buffed, toolboxes get buffed, then you all complain about that and start slugging because "survivors wont let us get our hooks" so now anti-slugging is getting nerfed. You all just don't learn.

Another killer main finding any excuse to try and justify tunneling and slugging when in reality its a skill issue. I bet you tunneled and slugged before the gen regression nerf.

They were nerfed to the ground to the point they are not even worth using, that's why a lot of killers at high levels are straight up slugging right now. If you are playing a a S-tier killer or are at low MMR then sure you can use gen regression perks or go for 12 the hook logic because you are going against a bunch of ######### players. Me personally, i stopped using perks 2 months ago and now i only play every single killer perkless because what's the point in using a perk or an add-on if it's just going to nerfed or changed later down the line if it has a high usage and a high killrate? Knockout is a perfect example of this, a perk that hides auras for survivors and for a whooping overpowered 15 seconds slowed down survivor recovery speed but now where at a point where that is even overpowered. Something that only gets 15 seconds of use is overpowered and now Knockout is a dead perk and nobody uses it except at low MMR.

  • @MoZo said:

This killer is insane. Guaranteed injury since it’s almost impossible to miss with the power, insane map mobility, and insane at ending chases since you can leap ahead of a survivor or right next to them and cancel your ability mid air so you can get a instant m1 after landing. I would put him around Billy as the 4th best killer in the game currently. He has all the things in his kit to be S tier and has an addon that is legit bbq and chili.

Funny you mentioned Chucky and now he is one of the worst killers in the game lol

I’ve been playing Kaneki for a few hours and in almost every game there’s at least 1-2 MFT’s. It feels like pre nerf MFT with it messing up my distances and having to hug the loop very tight to catch the survivor. I’ve swung thinking id hit a survivor so many times and they will out run the lunge. This is giving me PTSD lmao, anyone else?🤔

It's because of a lot of killers slugging. MFT cucks this killer hard unfortunately.

idk what latest rework you’re talking about. Their most recent official rework of a map was haddonfield last spring and they completely gutted that map from head to toe for survivors. The map lost a third of its size, all the houses were made significantly weaker to the point where you cannot run them themselves anymore and they added a horrible rng to the pallets. Sometimes you can get a nice number of pallets like 13-15 but more often than not the map will have like 8-10 pallets and half of them will be those horrible new edge map bush tiles they added last year.

I agree and that change was stupid but that's 1 map out of what 59 maps in the game, right now? The Ormond rework is a great example too of a bad rework. Let's not forget that they are adding another variation of Eyrie Of Crows with double pallets from The Greenville Square map. Maps are one of if not the biggest issues in the game imo.

This tactic has always existed. It's a game design mistake. It's easy to fix. The slug, tunnel, and camp should be disadvantageous for the killer. It is necessary that for each survivor who leaves the game there is a bonus to actions for other survivors, for example, 25%. Then the killer will not try to knock out the survivor faster.

It already is disadvantageous. They have given survivors a lot of second chance perks in the form of hook based survivor perks. Choy, another DBD content on Youtube made a video specifically about this and why killers at the high level are straight up slugging because it's the only thing that hasn't been nerfed…yet. Tunneling as a whole makes you lose the entire game if you are just focusing 1 survivor all game especially if the got OTR and Decisive strike. The best thing to do if the killer is just proxycamping or waiting near the hook is too just leave the survivor since if the survivor is on a hook, there is no survivor to tunnel, right? It already takes 210 seconds for a survivor to die on hook and that's without Reassurance or Camaraderie. Solo queue, that's a different story however. adding a comeback mechanic would exclusively benefit the survivors, 2V8 is proof of this.

  • @RpTheHotrod said:

Interesting opinion, but I have time entirely disagree. Map offerings are awful because all you ever see at levels beyond lower mmr brackets is just the same offerings over and over and over and over and over. Dbd has essentially turned into a 2 map game. Nerfing those is a great move, though I would have just converted them to map BAN offerings and it'd only select one killer ban and one survivor ban (not 4 survivor bans).

As for the DC penalties for go next another amazing change. Anyone who "goes next" intentionally is trolling all of their teammates forcing them into extremely unfavorable odds which makes their gaming experience horrendous. This is a great change to keep matches played out as intended.

As for surrender, I mostly agree with the changes, as some players do indeed troll by dragging out a match that would naturally end already. What I don't agree with is how no gens getting done within a certain time period should be a killer surrender considering it's the survivors that are failing to do their objective. All this does is encourage survivors to just hide all game and refuse to touch gens to try to get the killer to surrender. BHVR didn't think this one through, at all. If it was the other day around, then sure the survivors could hide all gsme but then lose anyway with their surrender giving the killer their win.

Facts. At high level, they only thing you see is map offerings to Badham Preschool, The Game, RPD, Garden Of Joy and Macmillan. Map bans has been suggested by the majority of the community and i wonder why they didn't get that system. Like the map offerings is just there to grant an unfair advantage.

  • All i can say as a Freddy main is that you need to get used to this.

  • They are nerfing them because majority of the maps are still survivorsided to this day due to pallets everywhere and the size of them. Their latest rework on the maps has made pallets spawn like 2 feet from each other.

  • This happened last time Chaos Shuffle was in the game and it was due to the nature of the mode with randomized perks and also triple BP during that time. The same thing happened this time too. Scott Jund made a video about this.

That is so true, and that's why I'll never understand the complaints of "This game is so Survivor/Killer sided!" when in fact it's RNG sided.

On topic, I've pretty much lost most of the fun. I took a week off from playing DBD, and then came back, only to get tunneled out more than I ever had before. Like, what gives? What changed within the last week that made Killers even more desperate to tunnel?

A lot of things on the killer side have been gutted is what happened, every single gen regression perks has been gutted to the point is not even worth using unless you are an A or S-tier killer. That's why Killer tunnel and slug right now.

  • @UknownShredder said:

Ive been watching some content on killers, I wont say all is like this but when i watch it i feel like they are playing against extremely low MMR survivors that get stuck in walls and do not know how to loop properly and generally disoriented. Meanwhile i face coordinated groups with every meta perk in the game 4000 hours on their survivors and they loop flawlessly , You really nee to powder your nose and have coffee to even stand a chance.

So my question is basically, Are they tanking for content or what is going on ? The survivors they face is like when you pick up a new character you never played but yet have 1000+ hours primarily as a killer so its just slaughter.

    Different MMR for each killer

  • @Zakon05 said:

I liked this modifier a lot the past few times, it was a good time on both sides.

    This time it's been miserable.

Play survivor, killers tunnel at 4-5 gens and aggressively camp and slug, often when they're in no danger of losing the match.

Play killer, survivors bring 4 BNPs/syringes and play in the most mind-numbingly boring ways possible (pre-drop pallets, hold W).

I refrain from using strong items when I go in, and on killer I use wackier addons like the Cube of Zoe on Dracula and the Chatterer's Tooth on Pinhead, and I seem to be the only one who is trying to relax in this mode.

I don't mind hard games where everyone is trying their hardest to win, in fact quite often I enjoy them. But not when I can't customize a loadout to maximize my odds of winning. What's the point of sweating this hard in the RNG mode?

Double BP incentivizes players to play sweaty

  • @xGodSendDeath said:

I'm having the opposite time. I must just have very bad luck. I keep getting absolute trash perks while my opponents are getting a bunch of meta. Trying not to hard tunnel and getting stomped over and over is rough because the gens are just flying

It's bad on both sides since each side both sides don't have the perks they need so survivors gen rush, use the best items and killers tunnel to get a 3v1 as soon as possible because of no Gen regression

I've been playing since 2017 and I can still have moments where I mess up during a chase and probably come across like I've only just installed the game lmao. It's unrealistic to think people will always play to the best of their ability and have god tier chases. A lot of things in this game are all about luck and RNG and a lot of the time it's got absolutely nothing to do with your skill level. I haven't used an exhaustion or anti-tunnel perk in years as I personally don't find them enjoyable to use and I have much more fun running healing builds or Open Handed + Kindred. I personally value aura reading / healing over being able to protect myself as I find it more fun escaping chases or being able to loop for a long time knowing you had nothing to help aid you during those scenarios. I think because I've been playing for so long, you just grow tired of the 'meta' and realise that when you stop playing thinking you have to escape every match, the game just becomes much more chilled out.

None of my solo queue matches feel the same. I just love having no idea if it's going to be a fun ride or a car crash. I used to play with some friends a few years back but they no longer play but it honestly became stale for me. I didn't like knowing that I always had strong teammates with me / always knowing what perks they were running. I can't imagine playing as a SWF again tbh. I've became such a lone wolf gamer and some of the best and most memorable matches I've ever played have been in solo queue.

The whole game is based around advantage I;E perks, certain killers and having the RNG on your side

  • @tyantlmumagjiaonuha said:

I've been playing the game since 2018 and every time an update comes I update my comfort level. Instead, the game has become more boring, with more situations requiring judgment and less freedom to build.

I said this for a long time that every time they tried to bring balance into this game, it has made the game even worse especially when you nerf a lot of things on both sides and not compensating with something else. Remove SBMM and the game would become a party game again and you would see a lot more variety in both killer perks, survivor perks and different killers in general. I used to be positive about implementing a MMR system in DBD to get the devs to weed out of the problems that were in the game at the time but the more i have seen with all the updates, it is just making survivors hate killers more and more and survivors hating killers more and more. We keep balancing the game around new players but it's newer enough and they just leave because nothing is fun anymore in this game. For either side. Why base the game around new players if the are not going to stay in your game in the long run? I don't get it.

  • Mathieu Côté himself has already stated that DBD thrives on frustration

  • Forcing survivors and killers to stay in lobbies or otherwise they will receive a matchmaking timeout is bad. TCM is proof of this, it just lead to the game slowly dying and killed a lot of lobbies.

  • Completely randomized perks + a lot of the perks you get are not in synergy with each other nor are they good in the first place. Killers tunnel or slug to create pressure. Majority of the killers that do this don't do this outta spite, it's to create pressure and force a 3v1 quickly or force someone to pick up the slugged survivor.

  • @I_CAME said:

It's definitely harder. My teammates are worse and most people in the mode can't handle Legion. I don't if MMR is on or off but it definitely doesn't feel like it's on. You add the useless bots into an already terrible team and things get even worse.

    Mostly.

To some extent, Kills do equal skills. You probably aren't going to 4K or 3K consistently if you are being outclassed, but I do think Hooks should have more to do with it.

    Like solidhex said, a 4K 6 is FAR less impressive than a 2K 10.

Escapes as Survivor definitely makes zero sense and I think most people are in agreeance with that.

Escapes as Survivor does make sense but what doesn't make sense is leading the killer on a 5-gen chase only to be camped at the end, die and lose MMR. That doesn't make any sense and in those situations every survivor should gain MMR even the survivor who got camped at the end.

  • @solidhex said:

BHVR never communicated a clear win condition for both sides.
It also encourages an unhealthy playstyle that is much more unfun and braindead for both sides.
Having 6-8 hook stages but 0 kills can be a good performance (depending on the killer, map, loadouts etc.), it all depends on the perspective - if we see kills as the only goal than this killer has failed, and this also leads to other conclusions: we need to do something about tunneling - nerf it and re-balance the game around this change.

Killer as it sounds KILL survivors, the most effective being to tunnel a survivor out. Survivors on the hand is a bit different since it's a team based game and you can't really count escapes as whole to determine that.

Your suggestion to make it so dying survivors would be asleep means they would basically always be asleep after being downed or if they were immune they would go to sleep in 60 secs. Not a good idea because that'd mean you'd always be able to teleport to the dying survivor when they get picked up.

Then remove the tp to healing survivors because freddy needs his Teleport, either remove the wake up on down or revert the alarm clock to where it used to be.

It wasn't busted lol I'm just stating what actually happened that killers who get quick downs in succession were what people were complaining about, it was just initial reactions to basekit unbreakable which were the issue, when the PTB had been around for a bit it was slugging was even stronger despite the change as it could end the game against certain killers.

And yes I'm not complaining about Tenacity, I'm saying Basekit Unbreakable would be a good thing.

Well yeah Nurse is the best killer in the game no matter how many buffs the others killers because of her power alone. Huntress has always been able to get quickdown because of her hatchet, that it literally her power, to shred through health states. Sluggin by itself can be counter by 3 perks Unbreakable, MFT and WGLF. All of those perks can basically destroy a slugging build

Now survivors are just dodging lobbies with 2 empty slots, because they're gonna get filled by bots. So first we gotta wait 10-15 min to get a lobby and then more to find survivors willing to play with bots. :/

    Anyone else encountering this?

How else would they have fixed this do you reckon?

    Or was it coordination?

Or was it an unfair skill distrubution?

Or was it a bad map?

    There are other factors.

All of those things but i honestly thought the Matchmaking ystem would fix "the unfair skill distrubution"

You aren't understanding, healing teleport works if either survivor involved in the interaction is asleep.

Yeah but why would you even be asleep in the first place? there are like 5 different ways to wake up and they made it to where you can use any alarm clocks to wake up, Alarm Clocks that give you immunity to falling asleep even if the Nightmare hits you for 30 seconds

It wasn't? It got canned because Huntress and Nurse players among other killers were slugging to get the win, it had nothing to do with unbreakable basekit, it took LONGER to get up.

It also made perks like tenacity much more appealing.

So the Unbreakable in the PTB wasn't busted but just had to do with Huntress and Nurse players slugging? This makes sense to you? Slugging for the 4K is already a thing in the base game so where in the PTB was this not busted? Tenacity being more prevalent would actually make the game more fun since you would stop seeing the same perks over and over again.
