As a solo survivor I find it an improvement over the old rank matchmaking system. I've noticed I've been having a lot less miserable games, although every now and then I get a stinker. I find most games I make it to 1 gen left or EGC and one or two other survivors escape, so even if I die I still have a fun tense match. The SBMM doesn't necessarily seem overly precise, but I feel like I'm being matched with similarly experience and like-minded players. Or maybe it's all placebo.
-
I'm generally enjoying it as a solo survivor. I still get some "w.t.f. are these teammates" teammates, but I think those are just boosted swf duos and trios I'm getting matched with. But even if we all die I feel like I'm going against more killers within my skill level so I'm at least having some really fun chases. Only had one miserable game today and I consider that an improvement.
-
I pretty much agree with steezo. I would like to use these skill checks for some other mechanic or perk, but I think it would disproportionately punish newer players as a random gen skill check and would have little affect on experienced players after some time.
-
Watching YouTube videos, reflecting on your mistakes and actively getting into chases is the best way to improve. Maybe even do Custom games with your friend to practice.
My own personal advice that I try to keep in my head while playing is “look behind and plan ahead”
Look behind is obvious, turn your camera to keep an eye on the killer. But plan ahead is trickier, I find I loop worse when I am only reactive. Keep in my mind what tile you are at, what is nearby and also what you think the killer is going to do in regards to mindgames and power. Will he fall for the window bait, does he respect pallets, is he going to shred or take out a hatchet etc. I still suck a lot of the time though.

BHVR should rework all their crappy killers then
Honestly, you are not wrong. You can make a killer strong yet not oppressive, like Wraith or Huntress, two strong killers I probably go against the most. There are too many killers that are both too weak and a slog to play as… it’s not really the players fault for gravitating towards killers like Wraith.
-
I don’t think he’s OP, I do find a lot of Wraith matches pretty competitive yet mostly fun. My only issue is his pick rate. I don’t know if it’s confirmation bias but I find myself going against him a lot. Plus he has a pretty consistent and unique play style. So those once competitive yet fun matches start to feel tiring.
-
Billy and Demo are far above pretty much every killer in terms of fun IMO. Even really experienced, crazy good Billy’s are a blast to play against.
-
There is a bug affecting the benevolent emblem right now, it makes it way harder to PIP, especially as a solo survivor. I would get to rank 1 every month but have been unable to since Nemesis release It is getting fixed with the Pinhead chapter release though.
-
It wasn’t my preferred map but I didn’t mind it. Some of the loops felt different and mixed up the gameplay a little bit, plus it didn’t feel overly cluttered or confusing. There will definitely be a Hawkins sized hole in my heart, I’ll miss the sounds of clanking doors and feet on the catwalks :(
-
So first the problem was holding W, and now it’s pressing A and D. How about survivors just keep their hands away from their keyboard.
-
I own DBD on both console and PC so I've been doing custom games between the two platforms so I can explore the map, and I have to say it's not as confusing as it initially seemed, I find it much easier to navigate than all the other indoor maps with the exception of Midwhich. It also doesn't feel as big as it initially seemed. I feel like the map can either be killer sided or survivor sided depending on which side understands the map better. As survivor there are some strong loops that you can really string together in a very efficient way and as killer you can create 3 gens and quickly turn sections of the map into deadzones if you're going against a crap team. I don't know, I have to play it more in real matches... but I think I don't mind the map.
-
Tunnelling at the start of the match has always struck me as an effective strategy against weaker teams but way less effective against good teams. Coordinated teams will run perks that counter tunnelling, body block and be efficient with gens and you will be lucky to get one kill. You are essentially just punishing weaker teams that you could have probably just beat normally while not improving your macro strategy/game sense that would help you against stronger teams. There are def times though where the best play is to tunne.
-
Its worth mentioning that the emblems for survivor are currently bugged, I think specifically the benevolent emblem. I’m constantly oscillating between 5-4 when I would normally be at rank 1 by now. I think I have only seen one rank 1 survivor since Nemesis was released.
-
Midwich is an awesome map.
Huntress is way harder to master than nurse.
This game will never be fully balanced due to it being asymmetrical with one side being team based and the other side being individualistic. It’s also a good thing that the game be slightly survivor sided at the very top.
“Crutch perk” and “2nd chance perk” are silly community terms that are just veiled pejoratives.
-
I pretty much only play solo survivor and I don't think Wraith is overpowered and in need of a nerf, although he is very strong and destroys most of the time I go against him. He can't really avoid strong tiles like the house loops and main structures like say Spirit, and loops with "line of sight" blocking can be tough for him as well. I think the biggest problem with him right now is his pick rate, it feels like every fourth game is a Wraith which is making him a bit annoying to go against.
-
I watched the original for the first time recently (I was always too scared to watch this as a kid) and I quite liked it. Takes a lot of different horror elements and tropes but blends it into something truly original, def not a typical slasher film. I also find it reassuring that the new movie wasn't just dumped on VOD this past year, makes me think the studios have faith in it.
-
I’ve gotten it 3 times so far and it seems hellish. I can’t wait until they enable the offering so I can use my steam account to do a custom game against my switch account and just explore the map.
-
I had an idea for meme build where you bring a green medkit and run Lucky Break, Iron Will, Botany, and Bite the Bullet. you could potentially pull off a heal right in front of the killer without him knowing.
-
I think Nemesis and bloodpoints are the two biggest reasons. But I also wonder if the busted survivor emblems are another contributing reason. It’s currently really difficult to pip thanks to broken benevolent emblem so killers of varying ranks are competing for the same pool of survivors.
-
Good perk for sure! I feel like we’ll make it and resurgence would be nasty in a swf. Speaking of resurgence, I’ve actually been loving this perk and it works quite well as a solo.
-
I’m surprised this bug is kind of flying under the radar, is it not affecting everyone? As a solo it is incredibly difficult to pip and I just keep going back and forth between rank 4/5.
-
Best - Demo, Billy, Blight
good - everyone else
don’t really like, but they ok every now and then - Trapper, Clown, Deathslinger, Spirit
f uck off- Twins, Hag
-
I still see him quite a bit, at least not significantly less than other killers. I feel like I see him way more than Oni and a few other killers.
-
He’s fine, I feel like it’s a bit of buffed Bubba syndrome, where people think he is overpowered but in reality they just haven’t adapted yet. My only problem with him is that I seem to have to play against him 39374772839x a night.
-
A reverse Twins skin. So a giant Victor who unleashes a lil baby Charlotte.
-
How about we rework it so when a survivor presses the dead hard button they go to a cage of atonement.
-
Ya, let’s have what is essentially a self inflicted Doctor shock as a perk.
-
Hag and Twins are the only killers I think are awful to go against. Incredibly unfun to play against, hard to get emblems so you rarely ever pip, and you don't usually get much bloodpoints going against them either. It almost seems better to just DC... but I'm not human garbage and I might as well let some sadist get his/her jollies.
I don't really like Clown either. I hate how his power affects my gameplay as oppose to a mechanic he has to master in order to give him an advantage. Annoying and boring killer imo, but I don't dislike him as much as the other two.
-
I think it’s good to just take periodic breaks from the game, even if it’s just for a week or something. This being an online game means you’re constantly in a state of competition, and constantly getting hits of dopamine and I’m not sure that’s a good thing. Who knows too, maybe with lil breaks you come back a little less stressed and end up playing better as well. I treat it a bit like a “de-load” week at the gym, a good way to get out of a slump/plateau.
-
I love this map as a survivor. It is very small, but the tiles are close together so you can find interesting ways to string them together and try to be efficient with pallets and stuff. The only thing I don't like is that it's very easy for a killer to get someone in the basement.
-
I think proper matchmaking would fix the solo experience. It's the disparity in skill that really causes the frustration, and I don't really think solutions like kindred base kit will solve much. As a solo survivor main it would be nice to not have to bring an aura reading perk but it is a fun and fundamental part of the game, and between one aura perk and having some game sense you really do have enough information as a solo survivor. I just don't want to go up against some 3000 hour killer and my teammates are rank 6s who are crouching all over the map and then DC once they are found, although come to think about it I shouldn't be going against 3000 hour killers either.
-
Scary ass tweety bird from Hyde and Go Tweet episode of Looney Toons.
-
I’ve kind of grown to love this map.
It looks great
It’s the easiest indoor map to navigate and get to specific locations.
Pretty Consistent tile spawns and layout
I feel way more comfortable with the loops and how to string them together
-
Red ranks is the most fun rank to play at. Greens and high purple is the worst
midwich and Hawkins are fun maps once you learn them.
”crutch perk” and “second chance perk” are stupid community terms that bitter players use as a pejorative towards perks they don’t like.
-
I wouldn’t be offended and just take the “ggwp” at face value. After watching back my games against streamers I’ve really become aware of how different the game looks from each side, so despite the points it might not have looked like a massive stomp from their end, and if they are a really good killer it might not have looked that bad compared to previous games. And life is too short so no point getting offended over nothing.
I pretty much always say gg after a match and just think of it as when I played baseball as a kid and we’d line up and shake the opposing team’s hand. If the killer gets a 3k or 4K I will give a ggwp and I kind of hope they appreciate it as they are probably used to salt after winning.

Questions for veterans/DBD historians who have played since the beginning:
When did survivors start looping? Like around what month/year did it start becoming a common play style for survivors?
Were there individual players who discovered looping, or did it kind of just grow organically throughout the community?
-
Botany and Self Care is good, but for self healing I prefer Inner Strength or just using a med kit. As a solo player when I wanted to do an altruistic/healing focused build I would take a Purple Med Kit with good addons and just run Built to Last/We'll Make It/Kindred and then Sprint Burst so I can get to the hooks first and I have some sort of meta perk that can help in chase, but Botany would probably work just as well as We'll Make it. I kind of hate using a healing build as a solo player , it's probably fun in a SWF though.
-
I disagree that it is a true indication of skill. But having said that, I've noticed a lot less useless urban evaders and hook bombers in my games. Unless I go against an amazing killer or someone ######### up big time, most of my games have had at least two survivors escaping, everyone is playing super efficient.
-
No, with the current desync issues going on, it's incredibly difficult to show your looping skills right now. Plus it's easier to survive as an SWF and therefore easier to get that unbroken emblem, this doesn't really mean you are more skilled just that you play with a solid team.
-
I went from the Nintendo Switch to PC... the difference was insane. Looking at it positively, I guess playing at 20fps and not being able to see anything was a good learning experience.
-
That is totally effed up, and I have no idea why anyone would want to play like that. My problem with these videos and I guess to some extent this game in general, is that in public matches you don't really know what you're going up against. If you knew you were going up against this team with this loadout beforehand would they have been as punishing. Like it still would have been #########, but with a different killer, loadout and a general knowledge of how they were going to play could you have put up much better fight? They were playing a tournament style match and you weren't and that sucks and is unfair. But I'm not sure if these videos say much when it comes to overall balance issues.
-
I don't think the game should be exclusively balanced around deathsquads because to my knowledge a deathsquad implies a team of extremely high level players on mics. This is an advantage most players of this game don't have. In my opinion this would be tantamount to balancing the game around amazing Spirit players. Imagine if BHVR started nerfing sounds and throwing way more pallets on maps in order to balance around these specific spirit players, this would have a detrimental affect on the rest of the killer player base. I think we also have to remember that a death squad probably represents the top 1% of the player base and therefore the vast majority of killers should be losing to these teams.
Having said that I think you should make balance changes to high level players and I do believe BHVR does this... just maybe not enough. The way they changed overly strong loops in main buildings was a good "higher level" player nerf because let's be honest newer players were not the ones exploiting these tiles so it had no balancing affect on them.
I think we also have to remember that this is a asymmetrical game and any 1:1 balancing will always be somewhat illusory and why this game will never be truly "competitive". Balancing is important but I think an equal emphasis should be towards keeping both sides "fun" and improving quality of life. For some, competition and balance is the only way they can have fun, to which I would say "maybe this game isn't for you".
-
Maybe I just go against really bad Pyramidheads but I find this forum really overrates him. His chase is good, but not as strong as it’s made out to be. And he really doesn’t have that much map pressure. It seems like people really like that he can neutralize certain meta perks, but I often seem to survive against him(even as a solo)
-
I love WoO, I actually think it works much better for intermediate players than it does for new players. It is good for learning tiles and spawn locations, but new players don't know what to do with those tiles or other basic fundamentals like looking behind in chase., so a newer player will just carelessly burn through pallets and are better off just watching youtube videos to learn pallet spawns and understanding tiles. But I find the perk helps tremendously with things like pathing and stringing tiles together, and as previously mentioned it's valuable as a solo player to know what is still up. Great perk, more survivors should run it.

cant you send private messages or something? More intimate that way too

Sounds good man. I manage a pharmacy and I’m currently working 12 hour days dealing with a panicked public. All While fearing for my own health as well as the health of my family (who I can’t even see right now). And there is nothing I love more after a long anxiety fuelled day than firing up the ole DBD and going against some twerpy incel with an unfun build looking for salt. May I recommend typing “GG EZ” in the post game chat?
