I don't need to point out that the RE characters in DBD for example are in fact diverse and very popular. I don't know what you think of when you think about diversity in video game characters, but for me it involves everything. Leon and Ada for example are very diverse in their character from their stories, backgrounds, morals and values and are very different from each other in these regards. Both of these characters are extremely popular and serve as an example of diverse characters well received by a world wide audience. New DBD characters get a couple paragraphs on their info page and a few pages of text in their tomes. That isn't enough to make them popular. How they look really does matter a lot to their success. Sometimes new survivors will get a cinematic to help introduce them to the players. Both Yui and Haddie got a cinematic for their chapter. Yui is a super hot biker chick so her cinematic was like adding more shine to an already brightly glowing star. Haddie's cinematic didn't do this for her in my opinion. You can only expect success when you build on good foundations.

Leon and Ada are especially characters that are from a diversity point of view pretty bland though. While Ada might be Chinese she was also created with a pretty harmful stereotype in mind. I guess Capcom is improving in that regard iirc with the portrayal in more recent entries. Otherwise, no I don’t see the characters from RE as divers. Leon, Claire, Chris, Jill, Rebecca - I do like all these characters but definitely not from a diversity PoV. Sheva and Carlos go more into the Ada direction, sure, though even then there have been arguments of ‚whitewashing‘ for these characters. and they all serve the same bodytype (though fitting as to their license/origin they must be fit).

Now, this is one license that does some things right but not overall and is even then more the exception than the norm.

also, if you don’t mind, you are talking about world wide audiences, though you must agree there will be regional differences. For instance we have several direct confirmations by BHVR that characters like Yui and Min are even more popular in the Asian region (though not only Asian characters as well, Legion for example is also more popular there). Now let’s take Haddie as an example again, do you know how popular she is in the Asian region and more specifically in India and surrounding countries? I can imagine that demographic would be happy about more different outfits for her representing their culture better. But I guess that’s just an assumption on my part.

btw Yui also already got way more and better outfits since their new take on skin distributions ‚caused‘ by the Haddie feedback (which we all know was not solely the Twitter outrage but feedback for a while)

If more cosmetics would have been the difference between Haddie being received better than she was, then why didn't they release her with more? Cosmetics for the most popular characters in this game didn't make them as popular as they are. If that were the case, then all they have to do is give the same amount of attention to every survivor to make them popular. You know that won't work. I am coming to reasonable conclusions, for the same reason I can reasonably conclude Feng's popularity when I can't recall the last time I didn't see her in one of my lobbies. Some things are just obvious. The cast wouldn't be super boring if it had more interesting and cool characters on it. You can be diverse when making cool and appealing characters. Look at the licensed DLCs for example. Lots of diverse characters that are super popular.

are you sure they are the ones not understanding something and that it’s not you missing a completely different point?

Yes. We wouldn't even be talking about this if cosmetics were evenly distributed to all survivors. It is not for no reason that they aren't.

    More popular =/= most popular.

not every character can be most popular and I didn’t say it would have been the case for Haddie. And why they didn’t release her with more cosmetics or planned literally any cosmetics at all is a very good question. Especially combined with the question why to release this character at all if they already anticipated her to be unpopular. Well. we will not get an actual answer. At least BHVR has apologized for it and making up for it now so they know it wasn’t the right thing to do.

Look at the licensed DLCs for example. Lots of diverse characters that are super popular.

can you point out these diverse and super popular licensed characters please? because i do not see them.

We wouldn't even be talking about this if cosmetics were evenly distributed to all survivors. It is not for no reason that they aren't.

no one really expects even distribution? That’s different than completely ignoring characters though.

I can argue that, actually. When I rarely see a survivor in my lobbies, or anyone's lobbies for that matter, I can reasonably conclude that this character is not popular. That, and also the many things I have seen people say about Haddie. There is far more information I have seen to support my argument than there is for your counter argument. There would be no reason not to make more cosmetics for Haddie had she resonated with the players as well as Feng did for example. I do have to explain it this often because too often people don't seem to get how this industry works.

Of course the devs care about the characters. They made them. They can make all the cosmetics they want for any character they want. Its their game and their time/money/resources. That doesn't change the fact the company is trying to make money from these characters. The realization that not everything you make will be a hit cannot be ignored. DBD has to stay in profit to secure its future. They cannot achieve that with mediocrity.

I can argue that, actually. When I rarely see a survivor in my lobbies, or anyone's lobbies for that matter, I can reasonably conclude that this character is not popular.

yet you still have a VERY narrow and personal view and also do not know if these same people have purchased cosmetics for other characters or how they purchased these often seen ones (maybe those are only bought with shards while others with auric cells). It also doesn’t take into account why these characters are popular - see Haddie again, cosmetic-wise dead on arrival. You are not reasonably concluding at all.

and again, no one really reasonably argues they should stop creating cosmetics for their cash grabs.

if they opted your way and only created these best selling characters… the cast would be super boring. Diversity is something actually many people do like and want to see - which of course does not increase the popularity of individual character but you do reach a broader and wider audience when also going into some niches.

I do have to explain it this often because too often people don't seem to get how this industry works.

All they can do is create new characters, present them to us, and see how well they are received. If they aren't received well, or well enough, they should be ignored at least for survivors. Survivors have no uniqueness apart from their looks, so their looks are the most important thing about them. Killers come with a unique power that sets them apart from the rest. Players have more to consider when choosing which killer to play. For survivors we can have any loadout we want on any survivor we want with enough blood points.

Feedback should not be ignored and I don't think it is. I think feedback is exactly why certain characters in the game do not receive as many cosmetics as others. You have to look at this from a business perspective. Characters that resonate well with the players are more marketable than those that don't. Its really as simple as that. The only thing they could do in the case of survivors to make them more appealing is to give them each unique abilities that only they can use. You would then incentivize the use of that character and increase their marketability. Since I don't see that happening, survivors need to be designed in a way that resonates with as many people as possible. Take what has worked well and use it as inspiration for the next survivor.

We should not solely look at it from a business perspective. The devs themselves have said they care about these characters and want to create from cosmetics for them. People often mock the devs/BHVR for not being passionate about DbD but then there is people actually asking them to be just a money grabbing corporate which seems counterproductive?

and literally everyone understands that characters that are more popular are getting more attention and why it is. You do not have to explain that this often and this is not an excuse to completely ignore other characters - they can easily create stuff for these characters without taking away from the popular ones and they have already demonstrated it.

And Haddie was already decided to get nothing before she got released and before they could see the reception - cosmetics are planned, implemented, created in advance. You cannot argue she didn’t get anything bc the reception of her was bad.

I think it sets a precedent that players could use against the devs which is why I think things like this should be ignored. The OP said they were going to harass DBD on twitter because they think it was successful with Haddie. That is never the right approach and if successful pulls time and resources away from the devs that could be used to create content that appeals to a wider audience. I really don't know how many people play Haddie. I speak from my own experience and have seen her maybe 3 times if that in my lobbies this year so personally I think it is a waste of time to focus on characters that did not resonate well with the players.

Harrassement should be ignored, yes. Feedback however should not be ignored like that, especially not just because someone thinks there is not enough people these optional cosmetics would appeal to.

you said it yourself, you don’t know how many people play Haddie (or any of the other ‚underused‘ characters like Singularity) so you do not know if there are ‚enough‘ people buying these cosmetics really.

What we know is they are characters in this game and should not be ignored by the devs completely - or they should never have been created in the first place. Especially for Haddie and Singularity it seems like they decided before release to not give them any additional cosmetics which already decided to some extent the resonance with the community.

When something (flashlight) is not linked to lockers in any given way (no interaction at all), only spaghetti can explain such a bug.

isnt it about locomotion shift when activating flashlights and collisions of survivors and lockers as well as interactions (activating flashlights/entering lockers)? Like.. are you sure you have figured out why the bug happened?

or are you just shouting out ‚spaghetti Code‘ in an attempt to insult the devs for being ‚incompetent‘ or ‚lazy‘ when in fact every code has some degree of ‚spaghetti code‘ to it and you still don’t know if the problems lies herein with this specific bug?

  • Everybody can still see it in after game lobby.

and some people requested to not show it on the pre game lobby bc of possible targeting. It’s currently tested this way for just some parts of the playerbase.

  • I think chests giving flashlights randomly is still a thing and can’t be killswitched like that. They just killswitched ‚Residual Manifest‘ which would guarantee a flashlight.

Devs receive genuine criticism all the time and don't do ANYTHING with it. The most notable instance I can think of is when the devs changed the HUD and survivor animations. Pretty much everyone disliked them and they still pushed the changes into live servers.

Eh. Pretty sure there were some changes made for the animations and the HUD changes. And not everyone disliked them? Ever heard of the vocal majority? Some of the criticism was also taken and responded to and explained why it’s needed the way we got it. Also, just because they get criticized doesn’t mean they have to blindly follow anything that’s demanded.

i would advise to actually -objectively- look back at the stuff that the majority complained about and see that most of it got addressed in some ways. Sure, they are pretty slow on delivering most changes, but that’s another topic.

  • it's just a fov slider so I imagine its not hard to add.

no offense but that’s just not how it works in this game. It’s not like it’s one dev that can just decide to add something and then do it with a few clicks. There is a whole team/company behind it, who already have tasks assigned to them and there might always come tasks like game breaking bugs in between and it has to go through multiple stages including design, implementation, quality assurance etc. They have stated before it will come early next year iirc and it’s very unlikely to get more info on stuff like this that much in advance since it’s all subject to change.

  • If those kids that use a flashlight to just run around and never use them instead of being productive could read they would be very mad at you right now!

  • That’s the neat part: it doesn’t, so I am already right no matter what 🙃

  • My expectations:

certain parts of the community act overly toxic and insult the devs personally while hiding behind ‚they can’t take criticism‘ while not giving one bit of actual criticism

srsly though, I kinda hope for Blight add on changes, as well as some add on tweaks for other killers as well as perks as that’s kinda the norm now. Two or three maps from the same realm probably getting some balance adjustments. Aaaand. That’s it?

  • @UnavailableName said:

Spaghetti does such weird things 😂

Honestly, who would think that using the flashlight while going to a locker would do this ? How is it even possible ? Lockers and flashlights have no interaction at all

Spaghetti code is not the only possible reason for any bug happening, and as you just said you do not have any idea what caused the bug…

  • Xenomorph because it‘a iconic as is and the implementation is very well done considering the limitations of the Dead by Daylight ‚framework‘, I like the tunnels and while the tail attack might need better visual feedback, it’s fun to use and -from my experience- to face in most cases. Flame turrets are a neat counter for the survs without feeling too oppressive (though I wish my random teammates would also touch a gen from time to time instead of only doing these)

  • many people just disguise their feedback, criticism and suggestions as questions and demand answers where pretty much any one with common sense could tell that the answer will be something like „We will consider it“, „we have it in the backlog but not currently working on it“, „soon“..

i know I am doing that as well though I don’t expect direct answers in these cases and get mad when the response is exactly how one should expect.

also MfT will get some changes, which is a hot topic since it’s announcement.

Them being open to fnaf isn't really that surprising considering it's been part of every one of their license surveys so far.

I still see it often debated and people arguing so I guess it was surprising for some of us

  • Well.. we got some info, right?

    • Freddy rework isn’t happening any time soon after all
    • Twins changes mostly consist of bug fixes and addon changes but will play the same with trying to shift away from slugging (seemed like something bigger in last AMA)
    • 2-set-cosmetics are still in their backlog but nothing happening on this regard
    • Cosmetic descriptions were ‚standardized‘ but they heard the feedback and (hopefully) not continue that
    • fnaf is a possibility at least from their side
    • They have planned something about pre prestige auto fill bloodwebs
    • Skull Merchant Update is still on the radar and supposedly ‚big‘
    • Blight update will happen in the near future
    • currently no plans for P100 rewards whatsoever
    • MfT is confirmed to get some form of ‚touch up‘

there have also been some lore and personal questions which are important in these things as well. Also plenty of things that were brought to the devs attention with some numbers (upvotes) behind them so they get an idea on how important it is for the community.

it also doesn’t help that certain questions have been directly answered before and are being asked again and again or it is absolutely clear that they cannot answer something in such a setup even if they wanted to (regarding licenses or upcoming features that are still being worked on and will see further changes before PTB/release)

  • I asked it myself but.. well it didn’t get canceled or shifted lower in priority so there is that! And there is really not that much to talk about it either… it needs to get designed including perk adjustments, all of these need to get implemented, tested, including menu UI stuff, all by people that have other stuff to do (sadly mostly new chapter contents which mostly consist of new killer, survivor, including WAY too many perks if you count all of them)

  • @GolbezGarlandGabrant said:

Not sure what people were expecting. Back in the first AMA when he was acknowledged it only sounded like he was a blip on the radar. Whereas Twins had something more definitive. Seems like it could be a long while. Especially with Skull Merchant and 3-gen stalemates being a higher priority.

Well. Freddy got shifted from ‚blip on the radar‘ to an even lower priority. Idk.. seems like people should be more outraged at this. It’s pretty much at the point where nothing will come for Freddy for the next year at least..

That's not the majority of PC players though, are some using controller? Yes, but most are Mouse and Keyboard.

Nonetheless it still is an advantage and I'll even go as far as saying Controller on PC is more advantageous than on Console considering extra programs for remapping + elevated sensitivity controls on PC for controller exist.

Oh yeah I agree with that.

Not all PC players are cheaters... but I will admit (as a PC player), Mouse and Keyboard give you FAR more advantage over Controller, now that can definitely be an unfair advantage but not the whole "all pc players are cheaters" part which is just unfair to pc players who aren't cheaters.

There is also Controller players on PC though.

I see. Thanks for sharing this with us. I've been under impression that backpacks at least are something that "have a life of their own", because they respond to survivor's movement. As if they are not attached to the back.

It’s a case-by-case situation. I have looked into some of the models. Some backpacks can be completely removed just like we would expect. Some can be removed but the shoulder straps are hard-designed into the clothes. And I would assume on some cases the back might not be modeled completely? Though that might be stupid anyways to implement it like that and I haven’t actually seen it.

but yeah in some cases it’s already possible to toggle them off without extra work! Just not always

  • @Crowman said:

Cheaters can just bypass crossplay anyways. There wouldn't be a point than to make it so that people can't play with their friends causing those people to find a different game to play.

At least that different game would not be TCSM 💀

  • Am I officially back on the forums? Eh idk to be honest. Def not as active as before and still kinda disappointed about certain things.

but rest assured i have upvotes and will continue to upvote any posts here so there is that.

    IMG_7456.jpeg

  • As for the toggle for backpacks and hats I think many people don’t realize that this is in most cases more than just a simple one click solution for them. Generally the hair isn’t modeled completely under the hat and even if so, would need to be reworked to look normal workout the hat. Same with plenty of backpacks and their straps. I mean, I guess it’s not as much work as creating a completely new cosmetic but it does require work for any existing of such cosmetics and require more resources for any of such upcoming cosmetics.

  • No.

not every PC player is a cheater, there are plenty of people that play with their friends between PC and consoles and cheaters can - if they want to - already circumvent it anyways and play against console players that have crossplay disabled.

instead, they should focus on trying to make reporting even more accessible, and implement automatic cheat detection (that shouldn’t be too strict bc of possible glitches and bugs of course). Hopefully they find a way to still create/save a recording on reports on their servers even though they stated it’s not possible with the current framework and would need a complete restructuring of the code..

  • Oh no. Will still be using it (just for the icon with Jonesy). And I guess it’s still pretty much the same as walking/crouching steps aren’t that loud to begin with..

  • Jack??!! 😭

I wanna choose Claudette bc she is so sweet but realistically, I would say Kate is the most Final Girl out of the original characters. She never loses her smile, is one of the most hopeful survivors, her perks and lore suggests she is a fighter, etc

  • OMG hiiii Lilli! Such a cutie!

Following Steam's weekly maintenance on Tuesday, players borrowing DLC characters via Steam's Family Sharing feature reported losing access to these shared characters, leaving only the DLC owner with access. This change is in accordance with Steam guidelines; if both players own the base game, DLCs are not allowed to be shared through Family Sharing.

    https://dbd.game/44lMf2F

If you have purchased additional cosmetics for a DLC character which you no longer have access to through the in-game store, please be assured that those cosmetic items are still associated with your account and will be waiting in your inventory if you decide to unlock the character.

    I have an update

the policy has been like this for years from what I have gathered though yeah it explicitly states it this way, it did work differently before.

Can we be sure that this is now permanently staying this way, or is there still some investigation going on?

  • Aww, I am very happy I am still lurking here to have seen your post!

discovering and accepting yourself for who you are is important, and probably for many people an on-going process for their entire life! It’s nice to see this game and these forums have helped folks out there - even though there is also much intolerance and bigotry seen and acted out here despite the best efforts by the mod team and community.

be proud, be yourself, don’t let the bigots drag you down or tell you your existence is political or should be hidden in public 🏳️‍🌈

  • The data isn’t wrong though. But of course it’s important to look at trends and changes in data especially over time and with introduction of new perks and changes etc.

and I would like to say that the devs are aware of how to interpret the data and they definitely do have access to way more data and info and timeframes etc. so they won’t just look at these data they revealed to the community and only base balance changes around this single screenshot.

Edit: keep in mind the data was collected partly in a time when MfT wasn’t released yet. Also it’s showing overall usage among every MMR, region, playerbase - even the casual ones that don’t get every new content immediately. MfT is strong especially paired with Hope and it is being pushed by content creators thus it will probably rise in popularity even more.

you have no proof that the data is actually wrong just because you don’t like what is shown or your narrow pov doesn’t confirm it..

Flamed you for what? If someone is in the dying state and you try picking up maybe take the hint and don't pick them up. I tried doing that but I didn't do it fast enough and so I got picked up.

I don’t recall the exact words. Started with ‚hope that was worth it‘ from them and didn’t get friendlier afterwards. I guess it wasn’t direct flaming but ya know.. not nice either. Really don’t know what they wanted from me… like… they all ran away and left me for dead with the gen but then they give the killer free hits and want to heal me up in the killers face?!

but it’s your usual soloq experience.

  • Got it myself with Flipflop, UB, Tenacity, Boil over right in the second match. Was lucky to get caught on Pale Rose on the ship with the other survs on a gen, turned the gen on alone and getting downed for it. Though others were still right there so I could crawl in position and heal up to 99.

random Claudette had to try and pick me up (even though I would have gotten downed immediately anyways), I denied that by sprint button -> she didn’t run away and gave up on hook. But then I got my challenge done.

(Claudette stayed and watched me get out through hatch and flamed me in end game chat btw 😇)

  • You won’t get any kind of refund. But you are still able to buy the DLC, since it does give you something else.

i did the same with Tapp, Quentin and Laurie, first purchased them with auric cells and later bought the full DLC for the cosmetics.

in general, I would recommend first looking at those extra cosmetics and if it is actually worth it for you. Eg Mikaela only gets a single piece that’s almost the same as her default. With Jill/Leon/Nemesis, they don’t even get an extra cosmetic but only one charm. For the above mentioned Laurie, Tapp, Quentin, those me it full mix and match able 3 piece cosmetics

I know you're not a fan of adding in real life people but while we're on the subject of Tony Todd I think he would have been a better fit for DBD thank Nic Cage (If Candyman license wasn't an option).

Yeah I mentioned Tony Todd and others (Neve Campbell, Sarah Michelle Gellar) in another thread.

i mean.. at this point I would actually find it worse if Cage would stay the only one…
