That’s not ‚my definition‘
Bubbas face underneath the mask is not the same color as it is for the other cosmetics. That is literal blackface.
Are you actually trying to argue that white people with dark/black painted faces is not racist, considering the history of blackface and the mocking of people of color in general (not only ‚blackface‘ but also ‚yellowface‘).
and I am against a singled out removal as well. I have said that several times in this thread now. Change all 4 of the survivor masks to be less offensive and more in line with Bubbas actual character (wearing clothes and such from his victims).
this would also result in these cosmetics having more value overall. Let’s be honest, no one ever would see a difference between original head cosmetic and athlete/leader face since there isn’t much difference…

This screenshot alone is proof enough for me that it should be changed :/
His skin isn't painted black, he is missing textures on all of them. Could also be badly applied light/shaders.

When I see posts like this I think people are forgetting how discrimination was and still is a big problem.
Blackface is not just a joke. Inform yourself before making such a statement.
IMO making this an issue actually pushes away actual issues that are actually happening.
As someone who is a minority myself, I'd rather people put their time and effort to actually help minorities in real issues that we actually face instead of being offended over a video game cosmetic, that people might use to do something racist.

Considering trolling teammates are pretty common as it stands, this comaprison is nonsensical.
And facecamping bubbas aren’t common?

Yet (some) people do wear Smartface with the intention of being racist.
They're not really the same thing...
People don't do it, or people don't say they're doing it?
Because just because a SmartFace Bubba facecamps a claudette, doesn't mean they are doing it to be racist, unless they state so in post game chat.

What does the pride charm even remotely have to do with this? I'm lost.
If racist people use Bubba's smartface cosmetic as a way to harass others, the pride charm can be used in the same way.
I'm pretty sure everyone remembers when it got added we had some people saying they were getting tunneled and camped because of the pride charm.
From what GBK is saying, people who were using Bubba's Smartface, were camping and tunneling people, and people would assume they were using that cosmetic with the intent to be racist.

If you take a ban because of this topic then idk what to tell you, the only way you could really achieve that is through making a racist or insulting remark which are both clearly against forum rules lol
I'm all for a better reporting system since the current one is trash.
You're speaking it enables people, that's why earlier I brought up the pride charm as an "enabler" since it also can be used like that. Does that mean the pride charm should be removed because people can use it to be bigots? No.
People who show obvious bigotry just need to be banned.

Saying that something that people who experience racism have defined as racist- though I appreciate not everyone will, which was my bad since comment 1 on this thread- doesn't create more racism in the world, it just allows people to deal with something that was racist all along but simply wasn't recognised as such
It isn't racist, tho.
How it would be racist:
Bubba only killing claudette and using her face because of her race.
Bubba never using claudette's face because of her race.
He sees everyone equally, he doesn't care about race. People making it a "blackface" thing, when it's not even close to the definition.
It would be "blackface" if he used it to mock claudette for her skin color. He doesn't.

People have been advocating against this cosmetic for a while- well over 2 years. This isn't a recent development. Who are you to say what is and isn't an issue for people?
The same way you can say this is an issue for certain people, I have the right to say this is a non-issue for other people.
Bubba wearing a mask made of skin, that happens to be black, is not blackface. It's not racism.
Saying this is racism, actually takes away from actual racism happening in the world, which already is a lot, why add even more to it?
-
@GoodBoyKaru said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2654566#Comment_2654566
Now IDK about you- actually I do, you won't change, so this argument is entirely pointless and is just going around in circles- but I'm more than happy to accept the definition made by multiple people about an issue that they face if it can be commonly agreed upon. In this case, a lot of POC have agreed that this is blackface/cultural appropriation, so I'm more than happy to accept their definition and support their attempts to remove something that is being used to purposefully harass them
"an issue they face", an issue that they made up sure. There was no issue in the first place.
Pretty sure there is way more POC thinking this is a non issue than what some people are making it out to be.

Pride charm allows representation of onesself. Blackface Bubba is blackface. His skin tone beneath the mask is literally darker than usual.
They're really not the same.
"noun: black-face
- 1.
- used to refer to the practice of wearing make-up to imitate the appearance of a black person. The use of such make-up was associated with minstrel shows in the United States from the 1830s until the mid 20th century; it is now regarded as highly offensive."
He isn't wearing makeup, he is wearing a literal face.

Congratulations you've massively missed the point. Like it's genuinely impressive how far out that reach is; really hope you stretched else that'll really hurt tomorrow.
Bubba's faces isn't representation or expression of yourself, pride charm is.
You're still saying the issue is people using a cosmetic to target others. Which also could be applied to the pride charm. So no, it's not much of a stretch, it's just that it makes no sense, like saying bubba is doing "blackface" just bc he wears a random face from a random person he skinned.

Going back to @ReikoMori's post, since I think they worded it really well- "I get the whole, Leatherface isn't racist argument, but it ain't about the character and people should stop making it about the character."
Stop making it about how Leatherface isn't racist for doing so, because nobody is disputing that he isn't. It's not about proving he's racist, but about taking away a tool and allowing POC to feel more comfortable in the game. If people are using it to be racist and if people are finding it uncomfortable for these reasons, especially then listen to the community and remove it. If you aren't the people who have been historically oppressed from it, then you of course won't understand why it makes people uncomfortable because you simply don't have the experience- it's like asking a lawyer for advice on a brain surgery. Both have different experiences leading to different types of knowledge which makes their opinions far more valid on certain things (as in, for legal issues I'd absolutely go to the lawyer).
So should we also remove the pride flag since homophobic people exist?
-

Right- apparently "yellowface" is the more Americanised term- just checked in with a friend (and yes, calling Asian people yellow is horrendously racist) and it's better to use cultural appropriation over it as it's less offensive (they're also not an expert on the subject, neither am I, however since they're iirc half-Chinese I thought they're better to ask and get opinons from rather than use my own knowledge).
Regardless of the term, though, it's something that was portrayed in media frequently and still is rarely to this day. It's far less recognised than blackface, however is still a problem, and Jake's face cosmetic is cultural appropriation like Claudette's face is blackface.
It's not cultural appropriation since Bubba isn't do it with the intent to be offensive to a culture, he literally just kills everyone and skins them.

Yes, yellowface. As in, the Jake Park face. Because Bubba is still white immitating an Asian person. And yellowface does exist, as does blackface; look it up.
I'm pretty sure calling asian people yellow is considered racist? At least in Europe is quite frowned on.

My experience with SWF isn't much different to my experience with solo, other than the fact that I always run Kindred when solo. As a killer, I rarely worry about if the survivors are SWF or solo, I don't think it makes much of a difference, you can get good solo players who can still give the killer a run for their money.
As a console player, ever killer is a low tier killer, because Nurse, Blight, and most ranged killers arent viable.
You need to have a ######### ton of chill as a killer, because the game is tremendously survivor sided. There's no wonder why so many killers play sweaty. Killer is a sprint, survivor is a leisurely strole.
Game is SWF sided not survivor sided.

It's about giving racists an obvious tool to be racist without it being technically bannable. If they say racist things in endgame chat, that's bannable. If they have a racist username, that's bannable. If they tunnel and facecamp the POC while wearing the blackface/yellowface cosmetic, and do it to no other survivors, then it's pretty obvious what's happening, however unless this is targeted across multiple games on the same people it isn't bannable.
And once again, a community manager has gone on record saying they're attempting negotiations for it to be removed, however it's ultimately up to the licence holders.
Anyways, that's like saying if a killer tunnels and camps someone with the LGBT flag it's phobic. Unless they state it was out of biggotry, it's only an assumption.

Again, it isn't about the character. It is about the way a certain section of players behave towards another specific section of players. I've repeated this because you clearly didn't read what I said.
So ban those players? Racist trolls will be racist trolls, with or without a cosmetic.

The players who are racist probably won't leave, but we also don't have to give them tools to be freakin' weird. I get the whole, Leatherface isn't racist argument, but it ain't about the character and people should stop making it about the character. It's about players behaving in really messed up ways towards a specific group of players. I know a lot of people who play this game don't know or care about the cultural context of why people do not want to see this cosmetic continue to be in the game. Yet, I would like people to just take a step back and consider that none of this is directed at you and that no one is actually asking you to do anything.
When us POC players complain about the cosmetic we ain't talking to you. We're talking to BHVR. If you don't agree, that's cool, but the stupid thing should be removed. To do so literally costs nothing and if people really got a problem with it just give the folks who unlocked it blood points or iri shards.
It's a murderer.... who tortures and skins all types of people.... and uses their faces.... on a imaginary world in a video game...

I'm a pretty chill killer. I don't care about the 4K and regularly give hatch, or mess about with the survivors when it's clear theyve won.
But Boons are the biggest pain in the ass I've ever faced as a killer. It really is not 14s vs. 2s when you have a coordinated team, you can't keep them down without throwing the game, so you just have to give up and let them have their god-mode zone.
Hit and run doesn't work with CoH, so Wraith, Legion, Pig, etc. just don't work. You're forced to tunnel. (I don't like tunnelling)
Aura reading doesn't work with Shadowstep, so gone are all the fun and quirky builds like Mirror Myers, and a ton of iri add ons like Demo's Leprose Lichen and Lifeguard Whistle. Not to mention, BBQ loses all functionality, you know, the most common anti-camping perk. (I don't like camping)
These are hard counters to base killer mechanics. You can snuff them out, but you have to go out of your way and lose a chase to do so. You lose way more than the 14s it takes a survivor to bless them.
There's playing chill, and then there's being the survivors punching bag. In order to avoid that... I now have to play nasty. I have to camp and tunnel, just to get a fair number of hooks and maybe 1 or 2 kills. I can't be a chill killer any more. So I play Plague instead, and nothing else until boons get nerfed.
I have no problem with people discussing why something needs a nerf/buff, when they do it in a constructive way, basically the way you just did.
Lately you don't see that though. You see a lot of low effort threads just say "this op pls nerf", or just general pity posts where everyone brushes each others egos, like a little echo chamber. If someone has a slight different opinion, or no opinion at all they get mobbed.
One side uses the argument to "just do this or that" but as soon as the other side does the same, there is a problem.
Another issue I have with it is that people always mention "survivors" when solo q and swf are almost different roles. All the arguments I see in favor of nerfs for one side, it's either just considered for swf or for top tier killers.
Low tier killers and solos just get forgotten into existence while things keep changing and they keep getting things nerfed that are only actually overpowered on top tier killers and SWF.

Bruv. If you dont have friends and need to solo q. Thats different issue. Just go make some friends to not solo q 4head.
A totem counter would be unbalanced. "But swf has that information readily available" so go make friends. "Why do solo q have to bring perks for that info" because you dont have friends. "I have friends" okay. Ask them to play with you. "They hate this game" go make more friends then. /S
REALLY THO. a totem counter would just be way more unbalanced. It would counter hex perks even more. Which in return killers will have very little good slow down perks. Which means gens will get slammed even harder. Which also buffs the hold w and predrop pallet meta. With that being said, if survivors get a totem counter? Can killers also get said totem counter? Esp with hex: permento coming out?
The only perk that should really be baseline is kindred.
Or maybe my friends don't play this game anymore? Are you implying everyone who plays solo doesn't have friends?

My survivor queue times are usually short, killer queues usually take noticably longer for me. Depends on time of day and night too, sometimes it's reversed, but I have not had 5+ minute survivor queues in ages. SWF queues are usually a bit longer, but also only very rarely hit 5min. I would not be surprised if there are still more people playing killer than survivor at high MMR.
I would like to see evidence of people having long survivor queue times. Whenever I watch streamers it's the same for them, they have pretty fast survivor queues, in regions across the globe. Maybe survivor queue times at lower MMR are worse though.
TrU3Ta1ent (UK) solo survivor queue times: 1min10s; 16s; 1min10s; 1min; 1min45s; 2min; 1min30s; ...
ZuabtLEL (CA/NA) solo: 10s; 40s; 30s; 30s; 12s; 35s; ...
Hens333 (EU) duo: 45s; 1min; 1min20s; 1min10s; 1min30s; 1min; ...
Can you show me VODs of people actually having upwards of 5 minute survivor queue times?
It's the same for me. They're instant during the day and like 3 minutes at night, this with crossplay off, which supposedly would make them longer.

Difference between noed and ds is night and day. Noed doesnt prevent the game from moving forward. Infact you could literally stop noed from ever happening in the first place. Ds on the other hand was used as an offensive weapon in the killers face. Including doing gens right in the killer face forcing him to grab you just to stop you from doing a gen. Not to mention the free unhook you can do at hooks because of ds. The difference between them, besides one being a hex and can he removed from the game entirely before it even procs vs. One who can literally stop a killer in their tracks and be forced upon the killer. It was literally 60 seconds of "i do what i want". So yea good job on your strawman argument.
