I am from NA but I swf sometimes with my friend in Japan and I must say that i often PREFER It despite the ping. Since I'm only queued with one other person and we are not discord calling it is basically solo queue and my experience from other survivors is way more positive. I will say I do get tunneled a decent amount there compared to NA though but I think that is probably due to killers over there thinking I'm "VPN abusing," Don't really know though, no killer has ever said anything.
You are at a disadvantage as survivor on VPN anyway, my ping is around 170ms to NA from OCE and while it is playable I quite often get hit long after a pallet drop or 10 feet through the other side of a window. I am sure if you VPN you already experienced that anyway.
I mainly play NA due to more players available at the weird hours I often play but the tunnelling has gotten noticeably worse of late.

Would be nice if people stopped vpning to NAE in general. 75% of the time someone is mass slugging and afking or hard tunneling it's a SA player on 200+ ping.
I think if you VPN as killer you are completely unethical and should be deeply ashamed of yourself. It borders on exploiting and I have never even once attempted killer on NA. Some of the most unpleasant killers I have encountered on NA servers have not been from the US/Canada too.

NA East Coast Tunneling is silly extreme
Wonder why tunneling levels differ from region to region, tho🤔

I’d guess that it maybe has to do with the difference in cultures. With Americans typically being more individualistic than the majority of the world. We’re taught that the most important person in the world is yourself and that you should put yourself over others. This could be reflected in game by survivors playing more selfishly and killers playing more deviously.
I think Nebula is right to some extent, I do notice a lot more very selfish plays in NA. Not to say I haven't played with some really nice survivors either but there is definitely far more of a sense of everyone out for themselves and I often die so everyone else can get out.
EU gets a lot more tunnelling too from what I can tell, I think it again can be down to certain areas where empathy and selflessness are not valued as much.
Again to be clear, I have played with some really fun randoms who were clearly just nice people and they threw themselves at the killer to save me. But the standard of killers is lower and I think many just resort to tunnelling instead of... well, getting good in all honesty.

The most frustrating part about it is how rewarding tunneling is. Killers don't have to worry about the risks because they can easily be offset with Pain Res, Grim Embrace, Deadlock, Dead Man, etc.
Agreed, there needs to be changes made to make tunnelling so non-viable that killers have to actually yah know... defend gens?
In my experience the tunnelling is out of control on NA servers especially and from watching streamers it looks like EU is almost as bad.

It's very solvable tbh. At this point it's just willingness and whether or not it would actually net more profits. We have no information so we can only speculate that the devs must not see a significant dip in earnings to make them act.
It's very clear that the carrot-on-a-stick approach and any other bribery tactics do not work. Hard punishments need to exist.
Something like hooking a survivor twice in an allotted time-frame causes a reverse pain resonance effect where the two highest gens get 25% max progress. Unhook BT should remove collision to punish players for bodyblocking with anti tunnel measures.
Corrupt Intervention and DeadLock also need to be basekit for anything meaningful to happen though.
At this point I am happy for any options to at least be tried.
I have been using DS and Off the Record and I have to say OTR is great value but after that it seems most feel like they are in it for the long run and most times my DS has run out by the time they finally get me down. Or if I go down before DS expires the stun often isn't long enough to get very far anyway.
I am tired of having to run a build around anti-tunnel I know that much

Agreed. My poor buddy’s not bad at the game, but not good enough to avoid being hard tunneled and he spends half his time playing this game in spectator mode. I always try my best to protect him but it doesn’t really feel like it ever matters if they’re truly trying to get someone out of the game.
The tunneling meta forces survivors to play sweaty and crank out gens as fast as they can because if it’s a 3v1 before 2 gens left, you’re just not getting out. It's a perpetual cycle.

I play in NA East and have been playing since the same point as you and agree that it is the most prevalent it’s been since 1 hook Mori’s were a thing.
I’d say half my games are a 3v1 5 minutes into the match.
Being in Australia obviously I can only do West Coast/LA servers but it sounds like it's the same on your East Coast too.
Real shame as ironically NA is also quite chill in other ways... just the hard tunnelling man, it really ruins the fun and it's out of control

Dose it happen a good chunk of games, yes. As often as people say it dose probably not. We tend to remember negatives far more than positives. So say every one and four(this is based off if the games I have played and this isn’t me personally getting tunneled as well) games you get tunneled you will remember that one game a lot more then the other three and this it will feel like it happens more often then not.
I get what your saying but this isn't the case, I have over 4k hours since Jan 2019 and I have never seen tunnelling like the present day.
I am not being hyperbolic, EVERY SINGLE MATCH has been the same thing - killer gets survivor on hook. Tunnels until dead then repeat process.
Edit: Okay so ironically I just got the first killer who actually didn't tunnel hard

I had someone try to flashbang save me 3 times in one match and fail each time. Sometimes they think they just missed the timing.
Blast Mine has led me to survivor hiding spots because of the aura reading.
Some survivors have found flashlights from chests despite no one bringing any in.
Lightborn is very good for covering ALL blinds, not just when someone brings a flashlight in. I’ve never had more comments aimed at me around one perk than Lightborn. People seem to forget the Flashbangs, Blast Mines and chests exist.
Well... I have lots of fails and survivors who think I don't have ears and who waste a lot of time trying and failing to get blind saves of all kinds. But very few actual blinds...
-
So far EVERY SINGLE GAME on NA either myself of team mates have been tunnelled. I actually have to run full anti tunnel build just to have a normal match. A buff to DS cannot come fast enough!
-
Lightborn is a wasted perk slot, unless you see 4x flashlights in the lobby then it can be a great counter and rage bait lol
-
Yeah its a vicious circle at present, killers are playing really scummy which is making survivors even worse than they already were.
Survivor has been really awful in the past few days for me so I have resorted to killer and I still get teabagged at the exit when I play walking Bamboozle Nurse lol
Man I would be so happy to see a Bubba that isn't running full slowdown Ultimate Weapon based builds. It is all getting so tedious survivor is making me feel drained personally

That sucks. I haven't had a tunnelling killer in about 12 or so hours of play (since before the event). I'd probably quit if I had that every match.
Nah I haven't on OCE, at least not the shameful hard tunnelling I see on NA. Just very sweaty killers so I switched to killer myself for now
@Ilikechips said:
Survivors will keep getting nerfed overall. Killer will continue to get buffs. The tunnelling will only get worse.
I am okay with buffing killers and survivor did need a nerf (I am a survivor main myself) but the result has been full gen build tunnelling camping killers. So something does need to be done about that at some point, as if you're on NA the experience is pretty miserable from what I can tell
-
I don't know if they will nerf that perk but what I would like to see is limiting the ability to stack gen regression.
Full gen regression builds are bad enough by themselves but versing top tier killers with full gen builds and the sweatiest addons is pretty much an insta-win against public lobbies

I've said countless times that I fortunately don't see the extreme tunnelling that others claim to see often. I'm in Australia too. I feel like a lot of experiences in gaming come down to regional attitudes. Though I also find most of my games to be chill, but that might simply be a difference in MMR. I imagine the higher one goes in MMR, the sweatier it tends to get.
I don't see it in OCE as much but in NA it is beyond ridiculous. Honestly I would say just about every match yesterday was the same thing; killer chases until they find an easy survivor to down... wait just outside self unhook range to wait for someone to come in for the save and tunnel the unhooked survivor until dead so its a 3v1 at 4-5 gens.
At that point its pretty much gg go next and the match feels pointless to continue with
-
The Game is a terrible map for her, as obviously her ranged attack is useless if you are on a different level. While she can zone you well there are so many LOS blockers you're forced into a prediction game. So for survivor this map (Meat Plant) is easy mode against Artist and she is one killer who really struggles on this map.
I think she is fun if a bit clunky to play and I enjoy playing her quite a lot but she is very unfun to play against and promotes a tedious pre-drop and run style from survivors. Getting zoned where you have no options does not feel good when playing survivor, it removes 90% of the fun mind games in my opinion. It's the same reason Knight is incredibly unfun to verse too
Artist is a strong killer when played right but will probably eat ######### when versing truly skilled survivors (as do most killers).
-
Yes because the AOE on his spray goes through many walls so you can spray and pray, you can set up teleports just around corners and catch survivors off guard (it has happened to me many times now) and in a hallway or corridor you have little room to dodge his spray and pray attacks. There are areas where you are pretty much going to take a hit regardless on indoor maps.
If someone is actually competent with this killer, they are incredibly oppressive on an indoor map. The fact they can traverse an entire map in a second is incredibly powerful if you know what you're doing
-
Two.
-
I am the most anti camping and tunnelling survivor main out there... but this is fine as it is end game and there is nothing left to play for.

2000 4K's on Blight.
1.2K on Nurse.
Over 400 on ######### Clown!
At some point, the average Killer is going to have to accept that they are responsible for their own losses. The game isn't Survivor-sided. If you are good at Killer, any Killer, you will win the vast majority of your matches.
If you are good at a B+ tier Killer, and you get very good, you will beat everyone but the most skilled competitive teams.
Blight and Nurse are broken in public lobbies with builds that those doing stupid 'win streaks' use and playing in the scummiest sweaty way possible. Also players with more than 5k hours in game if I am no mistaken, so not your average weekend Andy.
If you lose continuously as killer then something is wrong for sure as the average survivor ranges somewhat competent to completely unskilled and no functional brain. That is why the game has to always lean towards being survivor sided, even thought at present is it probably the least survivor sided it has been.
My opinion of course, I don't claim to be an authority on all things DBD

Just because the game was horribly balanced towards one side means it's okay for the game to currently be horribly balanced towards the other side?
It isn't though, survivors just had it so easy before they cry now when they have a more even playing field. The game is still survivor sided but the reality is most of the player base are unskilled casuals and it is good that is the case otherwise killers would never win.
-
I versed it the other night and it is extremely broken so I am surprised they have not kill switched Oni but as already mentioned it probably has more to do with cosmetics than anything.
I versed it the other night and the only reason I decided to not bother reporting him was he let us all go. It was funny for about 2 seconds then it was just plain annoying and a waste of my time.
-
Honestly I am mostly fine with it how it is, as the game was stupidly survivor sided for the longest time and I say this as a survivor main myself (though I have played a lot of killer).
The only issues I personally have is killers stacking 3-4 gen slowdown perks and especially on top tier killers and the tunnelling epidemic at present.

You're right, bud. BHVR has tested MMR before at varying degrees, but I remember one test they made it fairly tight and I wanted to kiss my solo q teams, on average.
I guess twin mains got stuck waiting 3 hours for a lobby so we can't have nice things. Which is a shame, because I was excited to have survivors of similar skill on my team.
It's basically confirmed now that matchmaking prioritizes speed so MMR feels pointless???
I guess a middle ground has to be drawn, because I remember if you wanted to play survivor at night you used to have to wait literally 10 minutes but now it's like 1 minute
Yeah I would believe the priority is speed over accuracy and I am mostly okay with that. Though during this event it has been a bit painful as a veteran player when I get team mates who make the most bafflingly stupid decisions that make my blood pressure rise

Even if it seems like this based on competence of players, some parts of mmr you just never get to experience if you played enough.
I tested this by playing dbd on different account and I was at literal bottom or near bottom every match. Players were completely clueless.
I love when people say "my teammates are babies" because some of them are scared of tr and such, but real babies... man. These players are in a league of their own. It is like discovering a new world you forgot it existed. It is so cute seeing how new players act but this just showed me that even tho mmr is not good it still keeps bottom away from our evil touch.
No I get it, I have 3 accounts but I don't touch 2 of them for sometimes a year at a time and I get matched with people like this.
All arguments aside, I have to say baby survivors are absolutely adorable. Completely terrified, missing skill checks, disregarding the fact you have ears and can hear them injured, terrible hiding, blinding the side of your head at pallets and running themselves to dead zones and letting team mates die on hook as they are too scared to rescue even if you walk to the other side of the map to let them lmao
-
Okay thanks all
-
Probably not but there is a risk, since it does nothing useful I would just not do it personally. As above though, BHVR wont ban you but if it triggers EAC then you're on your own.
Is your entire account with risking for stupid icons? Your choice

Obviously it's subjective but it really isn't that big of a problem. There's so many players who jump into the forum the second they get tunneled like OMG CLOWN TUNNELED ME TREASH NOOBN!!11!!!! And then there's players that get tunneled, laugh it off, and hop into another match. It's not a balance problem, it's really how you handle it tbh.
Clearly it is a problem, I have 4k hours in this game now and I have never seen tunnelling so bad as it is now. Of course that is just my anecdotal claim but it seems to be a common complaint at this point.
It isn't like I don't understand that killers gotta kill and when there is 1 gen left and they have nobody dead I can kinda get it.
But what I am seeing is the most cowardly plays of identifying the least experienced player and shamelessly tunnelling them out of the game even at 5 gens, so they really don't get an kind of match and most definitely a negative experience. This potentially hurts DBD as it makes it a very unwelcoming experience for new players who likely will not stick around.
For me, the best match I had in ages was a Bubba that hard tunnelled me as I am experienced enough to make him pay dearly for that decision, plus I rarely see Bubba anymore and chases with him are awesome. But for a new player this is just a miserable experience and I have to speak up for the defenceless who are bullied by unscrupulous killer players.

Funny I was having this discussion on a stream earlier where the streamer was wondering what is going on and is everyone just really stingy this year or something.
I said the same thing pretty much, that every time I use my BPS/cakes I get the sweatiest most toxic killer ever and I regret giving them 100% extra anything. It isn't like many play to get max points either and I often leave the match barely getting more than a normal match.
I have only used a single BPS so far and that was because I was told by a random streamer that they were all bringing one and that was a good match. But otherwise, yeah they seem to curse me with a terrible match.
It's like every time I bring a stacked up medkit I get Plague lol

That's not the type of stealth I'm defending. Yes, getting an escape without being hooked can be pretty impressive as long as it's not a hatch escape, but more often than not leads to what you mentioned of their team having to take more aggro.
The stealth I am defending, and how I prefer playing myself, is avoiding chases to do objectives, while also using the fact I'm usually uninjured and unhooked to give the killer something to focus on. One game I had earlier last night, I was doing a lot of heavy lifting on the gens while my team were otherwise occupied, while diving straight into the fray for protection whenever I could. Two people on death hook got out because I was able to take heat off them when they needed it, because I was able to save my hook states for when I needed to use them, and doing the objective all the while. That's what I find fun, and why I wish stealth was even just a touch more reliable.
Bro... with all due respect, if you care about stealth that much then that is exactly what stealth is; hiding and letting your team mates take all the aggro while you hold M1.
Don't get me wrong, if you actually do gens you are still better than 90% of the survivors in solo queue and I have no problem if you want to play the game like that as it isn't like tunnelling where you do ruin the experience of others.
I know this mindset as I was like this early in my DBD days but you said it yourself "avoiding chases" so you are still putting the burden on the rest of your team, who also do objectives as well as take killer aggro.
The more you play the more you'll realise that chases ARE the fun part and holding M1 on gens is just the boring stuff you do to progress the game when the killer is not on you. If you are going to stealth though, at the very least when you see a team mate is on death hook then make yourself very available to take a hook state or even trade a hook rather than let a team mate die while you have not been hooked.
I see that far too often with stealth players
-
Long story short: I have come to the conclusion that other than in peak hours in our regions, MMR doesn't really exist in matchmaking and the game just throws you in with whoever it can find.
I would love to see more M1 killers as they are the most fun to play against but I understand why people don't play them so much in the current meta.
I just accepted matchmaking is an absolute mess and I will just get babies one game and comp teams the next. I gave up caring at this point and just accept the chaos lol
-
@Seraphor said:
The main problem with this is that what you're describing isn't 'competitive' it's opportunisticly oppressive.
People who play like this don't do it for the challenge, they do it for an easy win. They want the power fantasy. These people will not play a "competitive mode" because that would be making their games actively more challenging. They will continue to play "casual mode" so that they can bully weaker opponents.
This.
-
Occasional stealth can be a tool when you need it but I find most people who care a lot about stealth in the game will actively avoid chases in any way possible, which means their team carries the burden of killer aggro.
I have had stealth players brag in post game chat that 'the killer didn't even hook me' as if this is a good thing, when the reality is if they took a hook state the team may have gotten out.

Exactly. I don't understand why farming bothers people so much, when there are many way worse behaviors running far more rampant. I wouldn't want farming every single game, but they're actually rare, and I see it as a breath of fresh air.
Honestly, with how sweaty and unpleasant games have been lately, even I would probably tolerate a farming match just to take a break from the toxicity lol
As I said, I really don't want to farm as I want to play the game but I can't understand why anyone would report such a harmless thing in DBD
-
As much as I just cant be bothered farming, I get some people do and personally I would NEVER report people for doing this.
With all the toxic and unpleasant things going on in DBD a bit of farming is probably the least harmful, I will try to just get out of the match as fast as possible though but no way on Earth I would report anyone for this.
The only farming I ever reported was the AFK bot killers that thankfully no longer exist due to AFK penalties

I don’t feel like there’d be much point of using that perk when you can just bring an ebony mori offering which doesn’t take up a perk slot (and most other offerings don’t really impact the game that much except for map offerings).
Devour Hope is appealing because while it is risky to bring and has to be built up, it does not have the death hook requirement so it potentially has a big reward if you do get the 5 stacks. Whereas being able to mori someone who is on death hook anyway often doesn’t make much of a difference. A mori on a death hook survivor might let you bypass a DS or avoid a potential flashlight/pallet save sometimes, but most of the time it won’t be a significant benefit to the killer.
Exactly

Imagine if most people lasted longer than 10 seconds in chase. Nothing discourages tunneling like actually being able to loop.
Yes but this isn't reality, the majority of the DBD player base are low skill casual survivors. Worse still is I find that when killers identify they have a baby survivor, instead of maybe going a little easier on them they instead will often target them to tunnel them out of the game first which is a horrible experience for new players .
As I have said many times, the first 1000 hours in DBD is just the tutorial...

People have been saying dbd is dying for the past few years now. It's really the most empty statement people love to parrot.
No I get what you are saying and I do agree people have been saying DBD is dying pretty much since day one.
But there has never been a hard tunnelling meta like there is now and newer players were not subjected to the misery of not being able to play matches at all as they just get proxied and tunnelled out constantly.
Will it kill DBD? Maybe not but it will start to harm the game if new players quit after a few hours and never come back.
-
@Tsukihi said:
Survivors who complain about tunneling have no idea why the killer is doing the tunneling.
I recommend you to try playing Murderer once.
If that is not possible, you should hone your skills as a survivor.
They are doing it at 5 gens with Blight and Nurse... so if you can tell me why they need to do that, maybe I might learn something new in my 4k + hours so far in DBD

@Crowman said:
Always about the "survivor fun", but no one everyone wants to address that killers need to enjoy the game too. If you want to heavily nerf the killer's ability to eliminate survivors then killers are going to need to be stronger in defending gens.
That is fine but tunnelling does need to be addressed as it is potentially harming the game.
I am seeing streamers (I know they aren't an authority on all things DBD) who are not top tier players pretty much tapping out of DBD and switching to another game due to the proxying and tunnelling off hook constantly.
It harms the newer player experience which is not good for the future of DBD, as when new players don't continue to come in and replace the old players who have simply moved on, the game will die
-
Okay it is pretty funny ngl... how does this this even happen lol?
Meh whatever though, I am still mostly enjoying the event for what it is. Other than the usual very unfun sweaty tunnelling proxying at 5 gen killers but that is the same as any other day lately

I don't mind, I am getting a lot of BP on good matches and if I am not mistaken once the community overall reaches some target there will be more BP.... right?
I am fine with it, it is something different and it isn't costing me anything with some extra BP in the mix.
-
Meh... whatever.
It doesn't work on me, the cosmetics are far too overpriced for me personally and I despise how they sell Cell Packs in odd amounts either just below or double what a decent cosmetic costs.
Just give me a dollar price that is reasonable and I may consider it but FOMO doesn't work on me but I will gladly take free stuff so I am fine with any I can get
