  • I very much do not enjoy versing Plague

Edit: that being said, I would take Plague over Knight, Twins or SM any day of the week

  • I don't think OTR will be touched for a long time if it even is.

I think they realise tunnelling is a big issue in DBD at present and perks are a Band-aid fix until they perhaps introduce base mechanics that discourage tunnelling.

If you really want to punish tunnelling and I most certainly do, you run OTR with DS, DH and Unbreakable. So if a killer decides to tunnel you can take the hit with OTR, make sure you drag them away from gens and go down near a pallet, if they don't pick you up you Unbreakable or if they do (most do) you hit them with DS which will reset your endurance so you have DH available.

Any killer who chooses to tunnel you will regret this decision and I think that will stay in the game for a while yet.

I saw someone make a bug report on this, apparently you can't gain progress as of last patch.

    edit: here's the report!

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/410091/outta-nowhere-achievement-is-bugged

Ah great thank you that perfectly answers my question then.

Well I guess I will park that achievement up for the meantime

  • I have burned out on DBD many times and taken months away from the game, my longest break was 9 months and I swore I was never coming back to the game as I was very over it all. Yet here I am… back again after several other breaks of months at a time.

I stopped saying I will never come back as I have come back too many times and you may well do this too.

That being said I have several friends who gave up with all the anti loop killers entering the game and some of them have never returned and they were 5k hour + players.

  • I absolutely LOVE versing Bubba and my best match recently was one where the Bubba really wanted to tunnel me.

The chases are interactive with mind games, he doesn't have an anti loop power like some recent killers and if you are half decent it is possible to have incredibly fun chases against Bubba.

If I could verse a single killer every match it would be Bubba but sadly I don't see him as much as I used to.

I am not very good at playing him but I think he can be terrifying in the right hands, an insta down power that can cover a lot of ground fast can be strong. But overall I would consider Bubba mid to lower tier with a very balanced overall kit

  • Any killer is good against the average survivor, as the average survivor is bad at the game. That is okay too and while I found this thread funny I actually don't want to see Freddy buffed either as I am okay with him being bottom tier. Someone has to be afterall and I don't miss the days of forever Freddy

  • I think boons are fine as they are, they created a whole host of problems in the past and it took a lot of adjustments to correct that. I don't want to see a return to those days

  • @Yippiekiyah said:

Extremely survivor sided at high mmr and nothing is gonna change my mind.

It always has been and always will be because the majority of the player base are survivors with low skill and casual attitudes. If killers were balanced to deal with the high end players the majority of the player base would have no shot.

At present I feel the game leans slightly killer sided until you reach the top 1% where it definitely is survivor sided.

    To respond to the OP:

My feelings on the current state of the game is that it is mostly in the best state it has ever been, though I feel the increasing number of anti-loop and haste/hinder mechanics are a big mistake and incredibly unfun.

I do think tunnelling needs to be addressed as do things like stacking 4x slowdowns in a build, along with BS unfair perks like Background Player and I think the angle of flashlight blinds is maybe a bit too forgiving and needs tiny adjustments.

But as a survivor main I am fine with the game being less survivor sided at the mid tier and overall the game is in a good state. But please, no more anti loop killers BHVR!! Its very unfun

  • Skull Merchant is the killer of choice for most toxic trolls I have encountered recently.

But there are still the Knockout/Infectious slugging Nurse kids who like to waste 4 minutes of your time bleeding you out because BHVR still have not implemented a concede option to render this kind of trolling redundant.

There was no issue with BBQ or WGLF having the bloodpoint bonus, in fact it made games so much more worth playing since your being rewarded more points for doing the objective. Them removing it was the most ridiculous thing they ever did.

Yeah I didn't buy the whole excuse of you're getting more BP now so you won't need the extra from these perks.

I don't think I am alone in that for some reason I got enormous satisfaction out of getting all 4 stacks on those perks for killer and survivor and BBQ being popular was a good thing, as it encourages killers to actually leave hooks and pursue those juicy survivors whose auras they just saw in the distance…

  • Yeah not a big fan of haste or hindered status effects, it's another negative of modern day DBD along with anti-loop killers. I really wish they would stop doing this but here we are…

  • If you want to be a really sweaty survivor you can run Lithe and Balanced Landing, or Balanced and DH with Vigil… killers do not expect you to have two exhaustion perks and will not wait out DH, at least not the first time.

FYI: this isn't my usual build lol… just to be clear

  • I get why they did it, grade or what was formerly rank means nothing anymore other than BP at what was rank reset in the past.

I kinda miss those days of rank reset but I think they are gone forever and this change makes sense I guess

  • Its rough going back to default for sure, makes me realise that the standard BP for matches is not enough anymore and they need to increase it yet again. Or bring back tokens for BBQ and WGLF for those of us who were BP Andy's

  • I mean, as already said it wont solve tunnelling but it will at least be start towards making tunnelling less appealing and to punish it far more than current DS does.

Hopefully BHVR continue to look at tunnelling and mechanics to make it nonviable to discourage those currently getting easy wins from tunnelling

Well when i got 3 kills and closed the hatch the last survivor hid until the last second in egc and then teabagged as they left. So yeah it does seem necessary… and if you think it's not a serious game mode then why do you care about losing anyway?

It has nothing do to with "losing" as I was already slugged so I had already 'lost' this match, though I never went into this ridiculous game mode thinking about winning as such. I thought the idea was just a bit of stupid fun that nobody is taking seriously.

It is the fact that this person was more than willing to waste up to 4 minutes of my time in a supposedly fun and obviously ridiculous game mode, when they had already technically won.

But some people are just so petty they just cannot stand the thought of a single survivor escaping… in a casual ridiculous and not at all serious game mode.

Yeah one down then your killed. Only three Gens to do but that still seems kind of too quick of a match. Also I played three matches of this and gotten under 10,000 blood points each match. Maybe this mode is fun for killer like trying to find little survivors but the giant oni walking around the map makes it not scary. It's interesting. But it's just not as engaging as lights out was. Did someone vote for this in that survey? Or is it just a one day only thing because it's April fool's Day?

I really liked Lights Out, I had not really played DBD for many months (maybe 1-2 matches every few weeks) but I loved that mode as it was fresh and made me want to play DBD again.

I still like that they are trying stuff like this mode though even if it isn't something I think any of us would keep playing long term. I have played with some funny gamers so its all been a bit of harmless fun and a break from the usual sweat of DBD :)

When you close the hatch the gates open automatically which is dumb. Understandable why people would slug.

    Really though?

Is this really that necessary in a meme game mode? I guess I just have the wrong attitude or something but to me it seems really mean at petty to do this in what is clearly not a serious game mode in the first place.

  • I just had a killer slug us to get the 4k…. on a fun meme game mode.

    I don't understand some people.

I think they could solve all the problems if they put haste trails on everyone tbh. And believe me throwing hatchets is not even close to free lol, you lose significant distance every time you ready up since survivors move 23% faster. Every miss costs a lot, one miss at a high wall loop guarantees the chase goes on another 20 seconds. Two misses is half a Gen, it adds up very quickly.

Oh I know, while not a Huntress main I have played her enough to know the pain of high loops and hatchet hitboxes over certain objects etc. The thing is though a ranged attack like hers is very strong in DBD and this is why the devs gave her the slow 110 base movement speed to balance out her strong ability. I don't play Huntress to win anyway, I play her M2 only for snipes and I don't use gen control.

Either way I am really not a fan of haste or hindered statuses and wish they would not be in the game but I guess trails could mitigate this a little bit but it still doesn't fix the issue of ruining your judgement of timings of what you can get away with etc.

It was nice having to reload less. Trickster/ Huntress are the only killers in the game who have to drop chase and go find lockers which can be far away. IMO Trickster and Huntress should get haste after reloading. Like knight does after using guards.

Well I guess a killer than has multiple ranged attacks that can be used within succession needs to not have such a strong power for free and having to reload is that cost.

That being said, I would not be against a brief Haste effect post reload as its the haste in chase that I think feels really bad as a survivor. Since you spend thousands of hours learning what you can get away with, only for a mechanic like Haste (or Hindered) to render those hours worthless - not fun.

  • I tried it and first game the Oni just let us pallet stun him and we all escaped. Second game killer was taking it very seriously and I was expecting to get hooked… turns out he just squashes you like a bug and the match is over for you immediately lol

  • Good, it was ridiculous and unnecessary.

I am not a fan of Haste or Hindered mechanics in the game but I guess its tolerable with Huntress being 110

  • @BillToLast said:

I see many people with a severe case of skill issue complaining about this perk and asking for a nerf.

You can easily counter it by either running Calm Spirit (which is now thankfully a more viable perk) or simply moving in an unpredictalbe direction the moment your position is given away.

I don't care if the killer knows where I am, what I do care about is them getting free info on the entire team with no pre-requirement beyond opening a locker (ironic you would mention skill). Then to add insult to this it has a very short cooldown at present and by far the most irritating thing is the blindness - all because a killer carried out the highly skilled act of opening a locker!

I don't mind blindness with say Hex: Third Seal because it is a hex and comes with inherent risk. But blindness from opening a locker? Come on… seriously.

I cant wait for this perk to be nerfed, it is incredibly irritating and rewards killers for doing literally nothing. I don't want to run Calm Spirit ever and certainly not so killers can have a zero skill incredibly irritating perk.

  • Look I am the first to throw shade at BHVR over game play changes etc but I think to say there are almost no improvements in the last year is just not true and pretty ignorant (not meaning that is a personal isult to be clear).

I cant even keep track of everything but previous patch notes have some pretty drastic changes, with the self unhook anti face-camp mechanic probably being one of the biggest positive changes. Oh and you may have missed the Lights Out modifier event, which actually brought me back to DBD after a long break and I had an enormous amount of fun in this.

BHVR are interested in retaining players and making sure everyone has the best experience possible and clearly tunnelling in particular is on their radar. The recent announcement on the DS buff leaves me no doubt they are hearing the complaints about tunnelling and I think we will see some interesting mechanics in the future

Some of this also sounds like the classic 'skill issue' problem, sorry to say

  • Maybe if rather than increasing BP permanently, they did double BP one week a month and more regular BP bonuses? The reason I say that is if they increase standard BP too much it may limit how crazy they can go during events like this and I would not want to see that.

But yeah, going back to the standard 20-30k BP for a kinda decent match feels really bad after the event

  • Interesting idea and I am up for ANY mechanic that discourages tunnelling and encourages more chases.

In an ideal fantasy world I would love to see the game be able to cater to those who wish to play immersed and scared and those who want chases and for killers to feel they have the time to engage in fun chases.

I used to enjoy being immersed but became more aggressive the longer I played and sadly it is very hard to get killers to commit to chases too much these days and that is unfortunate.

  • Yeah I have to admit I think I was wrong about this one, having faced it numerous times myself I find there is very little counter and especially when you down a survivor in difficult areas to protect yourself in.

I would go so far as to call Background Player an unfair and overtuned perk that probably needs to be looked at moving forward.

It isn't super urgent as I haven't seen it that much but when you do get teams exploiting this it can feel very unfair

  • 3/4 gen perks stacked should not be a thing.

Pop should only have 4 stacks max

I would like to see a move towards slowing gen progress rather than outright regression via explosion or blocking gens. Getting your nearly finished gen hit multiple times with Pain Res then Pop is a depressing experience, as is having gens locked so you have to stand around doing nothing. Not as bad as old Eruption for sure but still not the ideal way to control gens

I am all for killers being able to slow gens, just not a fan of how it is being done at present (Eruption/COB kick meta was FAR worse though for sure).

It's simply not an argument, because obviously there's no point argueing with you, given your response. Feel free to take it however you want, which seems to me is something you usually do.

These are all strawmen or ad-hominem attacks rather than an actual argument, so I guess you have no actual arguments in that case.

  • It depends, if you get a stacked map like Meat Plant or Midwich then Jolt can be extremely painful and match winning by itself for the killer. On larger maps it is less of an issue but it is still a problem that it has no limit to how many times you can get value, especially if you just slug rather than hook every time

  • Play killer and find out how hard it actually is to get value from Devour.

Everyone who has played killer knows the pain of loading in with lethal to see a survivor instantly walk to your totem and start cleansing or to see your totem has spawned in next to a generator.

  • @isha said:

Me when the killer plays efficiently (They are tunneling me out)

Lets be honest here, by "plays efficiently" you really mean 'finds the least experienced survivor and relentlessly tunnels them out of the game without any empathy for how miserable this is for that survivor', all so you can have an unbalanced 3v1 at 5 gens that survivors cannot win.

  • @Nebula said:

against the popular opinion of this forum, I truly don’t believe you need to rely on gen regress perks / tunneling to win the vast majority of your games. Focus on improving your macro gameplay. Situational awareness, knowing where survivors are likely to push gens, where they’re likely to hide, heal, take chase, knowing when to drop chase, etc.

If you truly want to improve, don’t rely on crutches to do so, lose games and learn from them, learn how to better control the flow of the game.

Totally agree, against most public lobbies you don't need to stack gen perks to win if you have good game sense and understand survivor movements and where to apply pressure.

Being an experienced survivor ironically helps a lot

  • I still don't know why they buffed Huntress, she didn't need it and I cant say I saw anyone asking for it.

Just be grateful all the buffs from the PTB didn't make it to live servers!

  • Identify the most distant gen and don't bother protecting it, you will significantly reduce your patrol area from the start making pressure a lot easier.

Survivors tend to push out the easiest/safest gens first so they play into this tactic very easily most times

  • I do feel more compelled to play to some extent and I have done a disgusting amount of hours in DBD in the last 2 weeks (over 200 hours according to Steam) and this is while working a full time job too lol

I don't feel burned out though but I will probably take a break and ease off once the event ends, as going back to standard BP earnings per match is going to feel really bad and a bit demotivating.

It made me realise that while they increased overall BP per match and reduced cost of items, the average BP earned is still too low considering how many characters are in the game now. But that is a thread topic in itself…

  • I don't know how this is an argument, so I guess I will considering that you conceding my point, thanks.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

No idea. This is a perk that doesn't need to exist. I've literally only ever seen it used for griefing purposes. It does nothing positive for the game. It's not an option we need to give players.

100% agree, never had a positive experience in a match where this perk was not used to create a miserable experience.

  • I think its just a fact of DBD that the majority of perks will always be niche and for meme builds more than anything and this is okay.

We don't want every perk to be on an even keel strength wise anyway and some just never will be meta

  • @IamFran said:

I stopped playing her due this. She is one of the few killers who I can play really chill and still get decent results also I love her aestetically. But the amount of DCs caused by the herd mentality is out of hand. Also, as I said recently in other thread, when playing survivor I prefer facing her than hag or blight. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

A solution for this would be raising the first DC penatly to 5 minutes as it was at first, I guess BHVR reduced the time for the fist DC for being a bit more condescending with the people who DC unintentionally due connection problems sometimes. So if they put the 5 minutes for the first DC back then the people with ocasional connection problem would be damned again.

DC penalties don't work for the most part though, it just encourages giving up first hook where the survivors left would have a bot instead if the player just outright DC'd.

I definitely do not enjoy SM but I will just play like an absolute idiot with zero self preservation attempted… that is my way of getting out of the match fast. I would rather just DC and leave them with a bot but I cant.

  • It irritates me but honestly it has been in the game and there will likely always be immature kids in the game. Better to try to not take in on board too much or it will eat you up and make you bitter… I get it though, it is irritating.

  • The reason I started only using Escape Cakes is the conduct of killers - I bring BPS as do team mates, killer sweats like its a tournament with the usual tunnel and camp and I regret bothering.

You would think that when you get a lobby of cakes/BPS as killer you would want to spread out hooks and have some kind of a match but nope, apparently not.

Edit: I bring cakes every time with killer though as I have so many on some killers its no big thing and I am more than happy to let 2 or even 4 survivors go as the BP earned are so awesome at present.

I don't think that losing collision will ever happen because it's been on the table for years, they could have done it already but somehow decided not to.

And tbh, I don't think you've played killer much. The amount of times I've been bodyblocked by a freshly unhooked survivor to protect their rescuer in a situation where hooks were spread and there were like, 2 gens remaining, becoming instead my target, only to complain and whine about being tunneled in the egc. You guys like to act as if only one side is the devil, when there are actually scummy players playing both killers and survivors.

And facing a SWFs will be even harder now, trust me. I'm not saying unwinnable, but surely stressful. BHVR has done plenty of good things lately but this seems like a step back. The solution to tunneling is not increasing the stun duration of a perk like this, even though you can only use it once per trial.

If we go back to vsing bully squads SWFs every couple games, I assure you, survivors (specially soloq) will end up paying the price, too. All the killers that fall victim to SWFs weaponizing perks just to mess with them will either stop playing or keep playing and be the opposite of nice to other survivors.

Depiping is a good step forward that should take stress off of both roles, though, so it may compensate somehow.

I have over 4k hours, admittedly 60% approx as survivor but that is still a lot of hours as killer.

Who is this "you guys" you are talking about, I didn't realise I was officially part of some collective.

I never complained about tunnelling in the EGC, in fact I have repeatedly and consistently complained about "tunnelling out the first weak link at 5 gens" which is what is happening at present.

If you don't tunnel, you do not have this problem and the perk deactivates at EGC or when the survivor does literally anything that progresses the match. If you don't tunnel you do not get hit with DS and I pretty much never got hit with DS from the moment they reworked it to actually be anti- tunnel. You know why? Because I DON'T TUNNEL.

  • Don't see too many Freddy's let alone P100!

######### even she gives Alien a Better time for me than herself,

Controversial take - I actually prefer SM over Knight but that isn't saying much as they are my two least fav killers to verse.

OP: the reality is you can implement all kinds of measures but nothing will make a person play a match they don't want to. I don't DC but I will play with utter disregard for my self preservation… so its like 'oh no, I got hooked how terrible' and maybe I will get points out of it and farm my team mates who are welcome to farm me.

Ideal scenario is they tunnel too lol

Most of the arguments aren't for tunneling, it's for survivors weaponizing it to force the killer to tunnel. Especially M1 killers trying to do a chase and end up having someone bodyblock with OTR/DS/UB ready.

Tunneling needed basekit mechanics put in place, or at least force the unhooked survivor to have no collision post-unhook until they do a conspicuous action to counter this behavior.

Yeah good idea actually, I think that will happen as it makes great sense.

I am not at all about it being weaponised against killers trying to do the right thing, only those attempting to relentlessly tunnel survivors off every hook.

WOAH, What do you know?! A solution that's just as easy to do!?!

Crazy how they'll never do it and then say " It's necessary. " Like…?

Its so weird eh, I guess that DS has absolutely no counter so these poor people will simply not be able to hook survivors.

I mean, how can one possibly play killer if you cant tunnel every survivor off the hook until dead? Wont someone think of the poor tunnellers for god sake? /s

  • Because there is a tunnelling epidemic at present and a lot of bad players are getting easy wins from targeting the first less experienced survivor they find and relentlessly tunnelling them out of the match.

In my over 4k hours since 2019 I have never seen tunnelling like we have now and it is handing very unskilled players wins they don't really deserve and now they are crying that tunnelling will not be the easy win it has been.
