In the last few years I can probably count on one hand the amount of times I've actually had survivors blatantly working with the killer and singling me out.
-
Trying to balance a game around 3 groups of players is never going to work. The game has constantly been shifting towards having balance between SWF & Killers, which ultimately makes solo queue players extremely weak. Add in the 60/40 desired win/lose ratio for killers and you have an even bigger gap when it comes to balance.
The biggest portion of the playerbase comes from solo queue and what you're now seeing is the consequence of solo queue players feeling like they have been abused and left out of game balancing for over a year.
BHVR are making changes but it's never enough and they're too scared of balancing around solo v killer due to the fact that it would make SWF god tier and most likely cause massive issues with queue times if Killers just decided to quit.
Its really an impossible situation because whatever they do they will lose. The healthiest thing for DBD would have been to never allow SWF teams in the first place, as that would have made balancing significantly easier, but that ship sailed long ago and it's definitely not a viable option these days.

I often run Deliverance, Adrenaline, Hope and Left Behind and it's safe to say after hundreds of games that tunneling will remove me early from game neutralizing my build entirely. Its very common to die in match in 2 minutes because killer wanted to tunnel and I have no perk value at all.
You don't get tunneled every single game so let's stop pretending you do. Even if you did tunneling isn't a perk, it's a strategy that inexperienced or weak killers use because they don't know how to apply pressure correctly or are weak at chasing.
I could pretend also that I get gen rushed every single game and it makes my 4 gen regression/blocking perks meaningless.
I personally don't care if people are running distortion it generally means I'll focus on people I can actually see first before going out my way to find the person using distortion, which is probably bad for the rest of the team. Doesn't change the fact that distortion is one perk that has the ability to completely nullify 3 information perks for the entire game.
-
I often run 3 aura perks and it's safe to say after hundreds of games that distortion will block & refresh charges at a faster rate than I can burn through. Its very common to go the whole match and not see the person running distortion.
I'm not sure if there's another perk in the game that can effectively shut down 3 perks for a single slot for the entire match.
-
Proximity camping seems to be much more common these days than straight up tunneling. Usually it results in a hook exchange, which imo is almost as bad as tunneling in early game.
I've been running Kindred & open handed a fair bit and I would say proximity camping is probably prevalent in about 50% of my solo queue games. I would say I only really see hard tunneling once out of every 5-6 games. I don't really consider tunneling to be a thing once you're down to 2 gens remaining.
-
Another your game is going to die thread mixed in with I get tunneled every game.
Just play the game or don't if it's that bad.
-
So you play against bully squads every match???
The amount of exaggeration on these forums is laughable at times. You probably see a SWF attempting to be a bully squad once every 8-10 games. You probably only actually get a good bully squad once in a blue moon because most of them aren't that good & are just people messing around with builds they see streamers using.
-
Sounds like a skill issue. If you're losing to solo queue survivors with 5000 hours logged in the current version of the game then it's on you.
Playing killer has never been easier imo. I barely lose games these days even against full sweat SWF squads.

I've heard from several content creators recently that they are quitting or taking a break from DBD because it just isn't fun anymore. Games feel too highly competitive and it feels supremely punishing to try out goofy or fun builds (or even off-meta killers).
The thing is- the game is probably in its most balanced state that its ever been. There are many things that are OP, yes, but things are a lot more toned down from what they once were and I think Behaviour has been focusing a lot on feedback over the last year.
I think the one thing that is causing players to leave is the SBMM system. If you do good, you get paired with survivors or killers of a similar caliber. That means if you are at the top, you get paired with the top players. For a lot of experienced players, this just means you are pushed to play more meta picks as opposed to the goofy ones, because as I mentioned before it feels highly punishing to try out goofy builds.Yes, it can feel bad as a new player to get paired with a highly skilled Nurse who ends the game in 1 minute. You know what else feels bad? Being an experienced player and getting that multiple games in a row. It can really suck to be the weak-link on the team and cause everyone to lose because you didn't bring Distortion/Dead Hard/whatever and can equally suck to lose as a killer when the survivors complete generators in 2 minutes because you didn't bring Corrupt/Pain Res/Pop etc.
Experienced players want to have goofy games too. Even just a casual non-SBMM mode would be nice… Yes you will still get the players that go try-hard but at least you don't have to worry about that happening every. single. game.
Now I'm not saying this will kill DBD or anything like that… but I feel like DBD would have a lot less people quitting and more player retention if SBMM didn't exist.
Its not really punishing to try out fun or non meta builds if you're good at the game. You need to go into the match with a different mentality other than thinking you deserve to win whatever perks you're using.
Biggest issue with Killers that inflate their own skill level by only using meta perks is that their weaknesses get exposed when you take those perks away.
I haven't used gen regression perks for a long time so it's easier for me to mess about and use different builds and still play well. It's also nice knowing that if you don't rely on meta perks then nerfs don't really effect you when they happen.
-
It really shouldn't even be called MMR because it has nothing to do with how a true MMR system actually works. You basically get a grace period if you're new and then you hit the very low softcap and you're thrown in the mix with everyone. Most players that are even semi proficient at playing Killer will be playing the best SWF groups at some point or another.
Solo queue on the other hand would be much more difficult to soft cap due to losing matches that are outwith your control on a regular basis.
If MMR actually worked properly you would have massive bottle necks at certain ratings which would only effect certain players. Queue times would suck for some but be okay for others.
-
With the unknown look at what you can bounce your projectile off to close down loops & remember if can go through walls. A lot of times I'll use walls or trees behind the person to bounce it back. You can also bounce it round a corner when you're just about to lose sight of a survivor on high wall tiles. A lot of times people don't expect that and you can easily close down loops or force them off.
Don't play wesker that much these days but I used to use his power a lot to gain distance between gens. Try and anticipate using it for vaults to get that extra pressure in chase. It's not really that useful for mind gaming loops just try and force them to throw pallet and break it straight away to force them towards another area where you can use your power to catch them in a dead zone. A brown add-on I used a lot was the one that switches the distance on your power. So you get the a more equalised distance between the 2 dash charges. A lot of people don't anticipate that and often get caught on the first dash because they're used to seeing a short first dash when they face other Weskers.
-
Killer feels much easier to play than in the past. I barely lose games these days playing with non meta killers, perks or strong addons. Even if survivors get a good start Killer is fairly forgiving mid to late game and you can easily turn it around. In the past you would need to play pretty flawless if you had 4 survivors left with 2 gens. Now not so much.
Solo survivor on the other hand really feels like a constant up hill struggle. I'm by no means an amazing survivor, but the amount of games I'm in that the Killer gets 3-4 hooks before a gen even pops is a lot. I see people going down time after time in 15-20 seconds after the match starts and the killer isnt even running lethal pursuer. I've started running Kindred a lot and what I see from it is a lot of proximity camping and hook exchanges. Some killers will tunnel the unhooked survivor and some won't. Proximity camping seems to be more prevalent in my games than actual straight up tunneling. Proximity camping is much more effective imo than tunneling. You'll often need 2 survivors off gens to get a rescue and you'll usually end up with one on the floor and the process repeats itself.
I'll continue to play survivor but it's currently not really that enjoyable about 75% of the time. A lot of games are pretty much over in the first minute and you can see the effect it has on the entire team time after time. People just give up or start thinking about trying for the hatch early on.
-
Proximity camping and hook exchanges are pretty common. Generally after this the killer will hard tunnel the escaping survivor so it would effectively promote this strategy even more for people that are inclined to play that way.

what a weird thing to get upset about and try to get banned. People like you are the reason these things stay private in the first place. They’re all mutually agreeing to do it, they’re not hurting anybody.
They stay private because they know what they're doing is potentially breaking the TOS and they might find themselves getting punished for it or the Devs implement something to prevent it. I mean I've given two good reasons why it's potentially not good for the game but if you can't be bothered reading previous comments then that's on you.
-
You can butter it up any way you want. It's called organised win trading. The prize has no real negative effect on the majority of the player base except the excessive amount of rare & Iridescent addons you can accumulate through methods like this, but other than that it really doesn't matter about someones prestige level.
It will only become an issue if for some reason they decided to nerf BP events because of such actions or if they ever decided to implement an actual ranked MMR system. It's probably one of the main reasons we currently don't have a ranked system in place. Way too easy to exploit & a headache the Devs really don't want to get into.
Good to know a lot of you endorse these kind of exploits though & don't really care about the integrity or future of the game.

I mean, its only Bloodpoints. Its not like they get a meaningful competitive advantage from this.
Exactly so why even do it. Like it's definitely not for the fun that for sure. I can't think of anything worse than fishing for the correct game and then everyone lines up in front of the killer to take turns at getting hit and healing before moving on to standing under pallets to take turns at dropping and resetting the pallets.
I'm actually still stumped to why it's even a thing in DBD tbh. Like is account selling/boosting with all perks P3 and P100s a thing in DBD? That would make sense to me if it was. There's usually a monetary motive behind things like this.
-
I care because when people abuse game mechanics that result in achieving things at a rate of 3-5x what the normal player would it becomes a problem for the Devs and they normally rectify the situation by nerfing it so it's not possible anymore.
Happens all the time in different games, so if it ever happens in DBD then don't say I didn't warn you.
-
@Sngfun said:
Here, it's isn't against the rules because they arent griefing anybody in particular:
I would probably say working with the opposite team to gain an advantage would cover it tbh.
The advantage is you actually don't have to play the game in order farm BP. The most efficient way is collaboration with the opposite side.
I honestly don't care if people want to do this if it's something that won't end up penalising the community i.e they decide to remove bonus BP because people are abusing it.
-
I mean you ain't winning as two players so it's generally whoever gets caught first should just die on hook and let the other person try for hatch.
Whats really annoying though is when you have 2 people hiding and stalling the game out of saltiness or when you have people hiding in lockers when theres still 4 players alive because they think the games going bad. Nothing worse than sitting on first hook watching 2 people heal in a corner somewhere and the other person hiding in a locker.
-
I mean you don't know what the new animation is going to be like so can't really gauge how the duration is going to be effected. I reckon they will make it faster though. DS might end up having a double buff if for instance if they made the new animation only like 0.5 to 1 second.
-
Other survivors are undoubtedly the biggest problem with solo q, much more problematic than any killers or meta perk in the game.
I've lost count the amount of times people suicide on first hook because they don't like facing certain killers or they don't get rescued within 5 secs of being hooked. A bigger problem is people just not doing gens. It's so disappointing when you take first chase/hook to look at your HUD and see people doing nothing when you've ran the killer for like 1 min.
-
I think the weakened status actually needs a nerf. The range when looking at him needs increased. Currently you basically have to be within ranged hitting distance to reduce the timer which feels kinda bad when you run halfway across the map looking at him and you only remove 50% of it. It's not like it's that difficult then land hits either.
I've barely lost a game with him so far. He has massive snowball potential & gets stronger mid game as the map gets smaller.
-
Only thing I think needs changed is the distance you can dispell his debuff. Like you can run half the map looking at him and still only remove like 50% of it. It's not like it's that difficult to hit survivors so you shouldn't need to be in hitting distance looking at him to remove it.
-
Getting called a hard tunneler when I got 12 hooks and the team still had 4 survivors alive with 1 gen remaining.
-
Haven't DC, but I have noticed I'm getting some delay on skill checks which is really starting to annoy me.
-
If you're losing 4 people to NOED after 5 gens are complete it's purely a skill issue in its current state. Like maybe stop trying to save that one survivor and just accept the fact that you will lose 1 person and open the gates. If they have other end game perks just hide until timer has run out. Also try looking at your status HUD and don't blindly run into the killer trying to heal or unhook.
Honestly people will complain about anything these days 😂
-
80% of the time nothing
15% GG or GGWP (mostly SWF or TTV SWF)
5% some salty remarks after they lose.
Maybe it's just the way I play. I very rarely tunnel on purpose and I never use gen regression perks and still have a pretty high win ratio. I also play a random mix of killers and never really play meta killers, except nurse on occasions because I actually enjoy playing nurse from time to time. I guess if you play fair (in survivors eyes) and still win it's hard for people to call you out or say something toxic.
-
I mean if you're winning like 1 game out of 20 on Killer you must be doing something to make that happen. My guess is that you're rage afking most of your matches when you perceive the odds to be against you. You've already mentioned that you afk or plan to afk if you see certain perks. Like just play the game win or lose. You won't get better if you just fold at the first hurdle. You would be surprised how many times you can turn a game around after losing 3 gens with barely any hooks.

I'm pretty sure its possible to make a hotbox that has two values. One for objects and terrain and one for player characters
Yeah I'm sure they could but I would imagine they would screw it up in some way lol
-
I don't feel his ADS is that bad if you can consistently hit +10m shots. It becomes more of an issue when survivors are closer to you due to it being pretty slow and easy to predict. The hitbox is probably the most annoying thing as others have mentioned it's not uncommon for the spear to go straight through the target on your screen. This is especially true at short to mid range. Not sure if they could change the hitbox though without messing up the ability to shoot through small gaps properly.

It's even worse if you're on console because you can't see their steam account which you need to make a meaningful report online
I've got a feeling most of the hacking comes from Epic games accounts. In the past the game has been free there so anyone could have made multiple accounts. They also have reduced prices in other countries so people could probably pick it up for next to nothing using VPNs.
Most of the questionable stuff I've came across seems to be pretty exclusive to accounts outside Steam.
-
I've also seen an uptick in questionable survivor gameplay recently. Wallhacks where I can actually see them react immediately to direction changes due to me using a lot of aura perks at places they have no way of knowing which way I'm going to go. Suspect speed hacks & injured survivors going back to full health mid chase.
I don't record any games, but once you've played this game long enough you just know when something feels out of place.
-
You can win against good survivors using no perks so I if you can't win using alternative non meta or fun perks it's probably a skill issue.
-
What's the point in lobby dodging anyway? If you don't play against good teams you won't get better at the game. Most bully squads kinda suck anyway. They're predictable so just choose a few perks to counter & play sweaty from the get go. Most of the time they crumble after a few downs & hooks when they realise they can't bully you. I play with a lot of aura and status effect perks and early pressure is your best friend v teams like this.
-
You can actually get pretty good on console with some practice although range killers are a nightmare and not worth the hassle.
The biggest problem console faces is down to performance. It's significantly easier to straight up lose track of a survivor after a hitting them with a basic or special attack. I think it's a combination of frame drops, survivor speed boost, perks & visual effects that can literally make a survivor almost vanish in front of your eyes. There's a reason people say spinning only really works against console killers and it's due to poor game performance.
I played on console for a few years before moving to PC and it's like you're playing a different version of the game. On the plus side if you can work around the console issues and become fairly good at the game and switch to PC it will make you a very good killer.

You completely missed the point and now you're doing the straw man argument of "where does it stop" which is always used to justify someone's bigot views (I don't know what your views are so I'm not talking about you before you take offense to that). "Two men can get married? Where does it stop? Next you can marry your dog!" And just because you don't see it, doesn't mean it doesn't happen but if you want examples, here you go.
Trigger warning to anyone clicking on those will showing transphobic images. I do not support these views at all but using it as an example. I hope mods can understand and leave them here because it is important to the conversation.

etc etc. Took me all of 2 to 3 minutes to find those
You're talking about real life situations and trying to compare them to a game. 2 men getting married and your dog comparison is completely different than removing pixels because someone got offended by some scumbags in a game that is riddled with toxicity.
Those pictures don't share any resemblance to what The Unknown looks like at all. You suggested the image you posted looks similar to what you would find from a simple Google search of transphobic images. Those images may be in bad taste, but they certainly don't depict trans people as horrible deformed monsters. You choose to make that connection, doesn't mean everyone else should.
-
@jayoshi said:
I think what some people are missing is that having the unknown with their default head with the cheerleader outfit gives the look that a lot of transphobic people use when being transphobic. A person looking like a "man in a skirt/dress" and looking like a monster/freak. Here is what it looks like:
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/SXQKQPOQVDJ7/screenshot-2024-03-14-134201.png
I'm not going to post an example because I don't want to give it any light of day, but you can easily search for right wing political cartoons or just a single drawing of what a trans woman looks like to them. Pretty much a burly man with face stubble and a hairy body wearing a pink dress. For people saying BHVR is not at fault for this, that they can't help what awful people do online - I have to disagree. If they had someone on their team that is in charge of looking out for things like this, it could have been avoided and the outfit would have been set to a locked set. Now I'm not a fan of locked sets so I get getting upset at the thought of it, but in this case - they really need to be locked. It's Bubba wearing Claudette's face all over again. Did they not learn from that?
Googled it and never found anything remotely close to what you describe.
I'm not really getting what the issue is now. Somebody got harassed (apparently) and now the problem is you can have a head that looks male with a crop top and skirt on a character model that doesn't even remotely bare any resemblance to a human being.
I guess the story and lore is completely irrelevant and everything should just be banned because of a few bad eggs.
Like where does it stop??? If someone is truly transphobic/homophobic etc etc they could just as easily target one particular person who is wearing a flag or playing David. Should we also remove those from the game so it doesn't happen?
Report them and move on. If it's that bad they will get banned.
-
I mean you can just YouTube harpoon gun and see rifles that fire harpoon spikes very similar size. It's not going to require any significant force to fire at 15m and definitely won't be shattering your shoulder.
You got 50 cal rifles that are accurate to 2km that have ridiculous amounts of kickback that won't break your shoulder.
-
I mean if you focused on protecting 3 gen specifically from start of match I'm assuming you ended up in a 4v1 situation with only 1 gen remaining.
It sounds like it's more of a survivor skill issue than 3 gen being too strong. You shouldn't be losing as a survivor team in that scenario. 3v1 yes but not 4v1.
They literally just need to chip away at each gen and try to bait you into a chase every time you come over. If you commit you most likely lose a gen. If you don't commit ultimately it will stalemate until the survivor team eventually wins because you can't be in 3 spots at the same time or the gens will get blocked.
Out of 15 games I don't believe this 4v1 3 gen tactic would be netting you like a 90% win rate unless you're playing extremely weak survivor teams.
-
Taking regular breaks from games that you play long term is a good thing. I basically do it with all the games I've been playing for years on and off including DBD. I'll try new games and sometimes add them into the fold and basically rotate when I get bored.
Currently on my list I play DBD, Dayz, Black Desert & wow classic. Most of the time I'll come back to DBD and Dayz over the others as my regulars, but I'll generally only play 1-2 concurrently. Just bought Helldivers 2 after hearing the hype so that might be something I add to the mix if they keep adding content.
One thing I like about coming back to DBD after 3 months off is there's generally new content and usually a bunch of changes to adapt to.
-
I mean I'm pretty sure if you got the right gunpowder to force ratio someone could potentially create a workable replica of something that fired a spike attached to a chain from a barrel. It would most likely be completely ripped out of the persons hands after firing it though unless it hit something before it reached the end of the chain and maybe even taking a few fingers with it.

My friends showed me some of their Xbox messages. You are 100% correct. That probably has to do with less ban restrictions and even if they got a consequence it wouldn’t disable their game.
What's even worse is that if you reply with something like f off then you get message ban for X amount of days regardless of what toxic drivel you got sent in the first place.
Luckily you can just block all messages outside of your friend list so you don't have to deal with the drama.
-
Maybe it's time for you to take a pause and come back a few months down the line. Online games have a habit of getting very frustrating at times when you perceive everything as being unfair or imbalanced, especially if you're playing the same game for 1-2 years.
Haven't played for about 3 months cause everything started feeling kinda stale and I'm enjoying playing again on both sides. I'll probably take a break again in a few months once I get bored and jump onto something else until I get bored of that also.

Console chat is 100% more wholesome than the ingame chat.
Probably because the toxic players disable it. I've found if a fellow PlayStation player has their messages open, they're almost never negative and it's GG's and great banter all-round.
Although the threat of losing your entire PSN account if moderated, rather than just a single game, could be a factor there.
It's completely the opposite on Xbox. PC endgame chat is like a PG movie in comparison to some of the messages I used to get sent after matches on Xbox.

If you cant find survivors because of distortion, then you really need to practice your killer play.
Also, its really rare that i see it, and with the current level of tunneling i think its more than a fair perk.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3662247#Comment_3662247
Meanwhile Lightborn dosnt require any tokens and can counter both perks and items, for a whole game.
So it would only be fair that Lightborn had tokens 3, and after each "blind counter" it would loose one, and only regain counters if the killer got people hooked??
It's actually pretty common to see distortion these days. Definitely doesn't fall into the rarely see it category.
Your comparison to lightborn is wrong. It would be more similar to the killer getting a stack every time they stay in chase for X amount of seconds, which basically means the whole match do it's pointless having any stacks (which is why Distortion might as well say it blocks all aura perks for whole match).
Now if distortion had other requirements such as healing another survivor fir x amount or gain a stack in unhook etc then having stacks would actually make it work in manner that at least gives the killer value from his perks at some point in the game. Currently even running 2 aura perks and lethal pursuer the stacks never drop to 0.
Alternatively put a timer on distortion that counts down as your aura is shown and charges back to set amount. That way at least certain perks might be stronger against it when combined with stuff like lethal pursuer.
-
These days I don't really care who's in the lobby. Could be 3 ttv SWF or 2 x p100 solo/swf or just random with high prestige.
Most of the time I don't even take note who's the P100s are. I generally base my decision on 1-2 chases & decide a survivors ability after that. Normally I identify the person who's good at looping or wants to lead me to strong loops and I'll ignore them until the time is right i.e less pallets, catch them in a weak area etc.
I've been surprised quite often by the players I assumed would be strong actually being the weaker links and by players that look unsuspecting (low prestige, base cosmetics etc) to be very good.
As a general though most people with a p100 are fairly good at the game so I can understand why some Killers might be intimidated by having a lobby full of p50-100s and go into full sweat mode playing as if their life depended on it lol
-
As a killer who runs like 2 aura perks and lethal pursuer a lot on quite a few different killers I find that Distortion is pretty much active for 99% of most games. The perk might as well read Distortion blocks all auras generated by the killer for the whole match.
It should definitely have diminishing returns and gets weaker the longer match goes on. I wouldn't class it as mega OP, but more of an annoyance because it renders a huge amount of perks completely useless for pretty much the whole game.
-
Xbox players are some of the most toxic players I've came across in DBD. I played on console for about 2 years before moving to PC about a year ago and regardless of how you play you get very abusive private messages from 80% of Xbox survivors. To the point it's borderline harassment and you need to turn off direct messages outside of friend list.
In contrast it's actually very rare that I get any abuse on PC these days. Happens occasionally and it's generally being called a camper or tunneler but most of the the people don't actually say anything or you get occasional GG.
Xbox players also like to excessively tbag at any opportunity even if they completely suck at the game. Yes tbaggin happens on all platforms, but Xbox players have a special love for it.
Having experienced what the Xbox playerbase is like I honestly don't think having any communication enabled directly from console is a good idea. It would honestly open up a whole new level of toxicity in end game chat that you really don't want to experience.
