  • When did BHVR lessen the d/c penalty?

During all the errors yesterday, I was kicked from a game and had a 45s matchmaking cooldown. I don't remember it ever being that low. Depending on the escalation process, that's an easy 2-3 d/c's a day for one survivor.

I'd expect that would contribute quite a lot to the problem.

  • Average Wesker Be Like...

Watch "Typical Wesker Game" on Streamable.
Watch "5 minutes later" on Streamable.

I think I worked on the same generator for 7 minutes, because of Jolt, CoB, & Pain Res.

Almost no one in my lobbies run OTR or Reassurance, so games like these are always a lost cause.

You can't see what the survivor sees when they go down or are on hook. Maybe instead of seeing teammates on gens they are in the basement teabagging and pointing at eachother wasting time. Maybe they have a teammate instantly screw them over at the start of the match. Maybe they have a specific archive challenge they're working on and can tell this isn't the match they'll be able to do it. Maybe you hung out by the hook instead of leaving and they figured you were just going to camp them. There's alot of reasons why a survivor may instantly give up.

Slugging them to "punish" them isn't going to make them change their mind. Either it's going to make them go "knew this match would be bad/waste of time" and they'll go play on their phone waiting to die OR the next match they play they'll take it out on the next set of random teammates who save them from hook and find ways to screw them over so they aren't slugged by killer for giving up. Just kill the survivor and move on instead of thinking you need to "punish" them.

Maybe instead of seeing teammates on gens they are in the basement teabagging and pointing at eachother wasting time

Of the times a Killer is completely clueless as to why a Survivor gives up, I'm willing to bet this (and some variation of it) makes up at least 75% of the reasons a Survivor chooses to end it. People cannot be bothered to help a team that doesn't want to help itself.

  • There are a lot of reasons a Survivor will instantly give up, but most of them stem from a lack of patience.

Either they're always impatient, or they've already played out some games against scummy Killers, and their patience has run thin.

Do you typically roam close to hook looking for any nearby Survivors, or just outright proxy camp?

No one loads up DBD to sit on hook for 2 minutes, or to be run down off hook before they have a chance to establish a safe loop. If you're slow to leave an area, a Survivor is going to assume you'll come right back to hook when they get saved.

And personally, I've come to feel as though hook trading is just as insufferable to deal with as tunneling--if not more. I'm seeing so many killers slap on Deadlock and Pain Res, then camp and/or tunnel. Not only is it no fun to be the Survivor who goes down without a chase, because the Killer wants a free trade, but it's boring af to be the Survivor who works on one gen for 3 minutes, because of Pain Res.

  • I'm US East, and the servers have been frequently crashing for the past 2 hours--possibly related?

Tons of error messages booting players from games/lobbies, and preventing players from finding new games.

Every single Wesker tunnels off the hook. I've literally never faced one that didn't.

I swear, Weskers think there is only one survivor in the entire game

I’m saying you are acting like 2k is something to be proud of when in fact it shows that you didn’t win. And once again, the idea that balancing around top level play would kill the game is nonsense. All other games do it, many of which are more successful than DBD.

This game would need a few radical changes in order to be balanced around top level play.

Traditionally, PvP games manage to attract a wide range of players by including both high and low-skill weapons/characters. The low-skill features are considered reliable, but they always have a lower skill ceiling than the high-skill features. This allows the game to naturally balance itself across multiple skill levels, as players engaging the low-skill features will inevitably plateau when they reach their skill ceiling.

DBD has high and low-skill Killers, HOWEVER, it does not have high and low skill Survivors. The Survivors' skill ceiling is determined by the map, which means in order for the game to be balanced at all levels of play, the high and low-skill Killers need to share the same skill ceiling.

If the low-skill Killers share the same skill ceiling as high-skill Killers, what you'll see is a large population of Killers reaching the game's skill ceiling before the Survivors, making the game favorable for Killer at low ranks.

If the high and low-skill Killers DO NOT share the same skill ceiling, one of two things happen. Either 1) the Survivors reach the skill ceiling before the low-skill Killers, and the game becomes favorable for Survivors at low ranks, OR 2) the high-skill Killers are granted a higher-skill ceiling than Survivors, and the game is no longer balanced at top level of play.

It's ridiculous, now they're blaming survivors for the change, like if only the survivors saw the problems with a lot of the nerfs done in the last PTB

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/L2SQ4C62TZGT/killermains.jpg

Even the ones that are way more killer-sided and positive about the PTB changes like SpooknJukes agreed that the healing nerf was too much.

And the DH "buff" some people are talking about, like what buff? It can be used only twice in a match now lolololol they go so far as to deny the Pain Res change wasn't a buff, like, it got busted in the regression, when you boost something is it a buff or a nerf?

Some people shouldn't be playing this, they can't handle it.

Woah woah woah, why you disrespect my man Spookyloopz like that? You totally left him on read.

Cross maps are not map pressure. Decent survivors have awareness to dodge them. Slinger gets way more hits than huntress, which is gonna be insane in the next patch. Only killers that have more map pressure than usual are ones with high mobility, aka not huntress

Is map pressure not one's ability to delay/disrupt the Survivors' efficiency?

Pig and Pinhead create map pressure by introducing a second objective. Doctor creates map pressure by incapacitating Survivors. Myers, GF, and Wraith create map pressure simply by having stealth--Survivors are forced to take time healing or risk handing the Killer an easy down.

Deathslinger is often cited as lacking map pressure because nothing about his kit disrupts the Survivors' efficiency. Despite his strength in the 1v1, he doesn't down Survivors any faster than other Killers with chase powers. A good Deathslinger will zone a Survivor into a lose/lose scenario, but that still takes considerable amount of time.

If anything I think your pathing in the first clip was excellent, 99% of people would have hugged that truck loop until they died or the pallet broke. The end of the clip having you move away from the loop as you deemed he would go for the hug tech based on how long he didn't bump was also well done.

As this blight seemed to be going for flicks most of the time, the other clips are examples on how to deal with the hug tech.

I'd like to know what add-ons the blight was running if you remember.

Also I don't remember which side you main and if you would tell, do you play blight much?

I feel like blight has this stigma around him of him being unbeatable when he try hards. It's like the seal team six thing on killers side. People aren't going up against these amazing blights very often and neither are killer players going up against these cracked out 4 man swf god squads.

    Cheers mate!

They were running Rose Tonic with something else--I can't remember atm

I used to play Survivor about 60% of the time. It's more like 90% these days, because Killer just doesn't really excited me. I can't imagine I've played more than 3-4 hours of Blight, and most of that time was spent running his impossible skill check build. Never learned to J Flick, Hug Tech, Moonrush, etc. so I really don't know what's going on in the mind of a top tier Blight.

  • I just played against a decent Blight.

They weren't the BEST but they were definitely above average.

My first chase was 2.5 minutes, so if you can learn from any of these clips, you'll become a huge help to your team.

Watch "Blight Chase 1.1" on Streamable.

First 20s of this clip are pretty routine--just pathing in a way that extends the loop but still allows me to make it back to pallet. End of the clip shows my decision making as Blight hug techs the car. Not having LOS on Blight as he begun his rush, I decided moving away from the car was my safest option.

Watch "Blight Chase 1.2" on Streamable.

This second clip is where Blights routinely throw away their pressure in chase. Rather than following me around the loop and forcing me to throw pallet, Blight blocks pallet while waiting for his rush tokens to regen. At this point, I am in full control of the chase, because I know exactly what Blight is going to do next.

Watch "Blight Chase 1.3" on Streamable.

Eventually I drop pallet, and I find myself in a risky situation. I know Blight will expect me to doubleback over pallet, but it's pretty obvious I'll go down trying, so I just keep running. Fortunately for me, Blight's rush autolocks to the pallet. Without his POV, I can't really say whether I was just lucky, or I outplayed him.

Watch "Blight Chase 1.4" on Streamable.

Blight tries to set up another hug tech on this car. Because of the tree and tire, I know that he is setting up to come from my left. I egg him on a little bit, so he commits to that play, then rotate around as he goes for the lunge.

Watch "Blight Chase 2.1" on Streamable.

As soon as I hear Blight rush here, I know I'm dead in the water, so I turn back around to bodyblock his rush then I use the tires as LOS blockers as I make distance. I weave back and forth, as I gauge which side of the tires he is going to emerge from. It seems he didn't hear me leave, because he hug techs the tires and I get nice distance away.

Hopefully these clips and my commentary can offer a bit of insight.

No one escaped this trial, thanks in part to the d/c, but because we got a chance to break Blight's ankles it was way more fun most of my other games.

no, our eyes lie :))) i was the one who was lagging, all day everything was clean in this match too but for them in that match i was the laggy one, but the packet loss symbol at the killer is just fake :D if cs2 the last thing i will miss is this community and devs xD really can't get any clearer, if the truth flies in their face they won't be able to see it :/ don't ask me why they're like that...

Never talked to you in my life. No reason to believe you checked everything on your end when you're ranting like crazy.

If people offering suggestions triggers you, I don't advise posting on the forums.

  • @Nirgendwohin said:

I like how @AetherBytes and @KayTwoAyy blames it on the survivor but they can clearly see that the killer has continuous red ping or packed loss (its the same symbol for killers). As it looks for me, the killer ping is about 1000 - 1500ms, maybe with a little packed loss.

BHVR why is the killer ping nowhere displayed? BHVR why is the ping limit with 2000 way over the playable state?

Doesn't mean OP is not also having internet issues.

You're more likely to see something like this when both parties are experiencing issues, as oppose to just one. I wasn't blaming OP, I merely made a suggestion.

  • You should check for packet loss, if you don't play hardwired to your internet.

Map pressure is a buzzword that people throw around without really knowing what it means. Slinger is better than huntress RN and it is not debatable

Map pressure is a buzzword that people throw around without really knowing what it means.

    How so?

  • As @Riski said, it becomes a problem with how quickly it allows the game to snowball.

Ideally, even if a killer has a really strong start, the game shouldn't feel over in the first 5 minutes. When a killer with Pain Res pops off early, Survivors feel like it is futile to even continue playing. This really should not be the case, as the goal is to maximize the number of enjoyable matches everyone has.

If a killer is able to get 2-3 downs so fast, that the single survivor working a generator is unable to complete it without even being interupted, they didn't really need Pain Res in the first place--it's just overkill at that point.

A dead game is a game that has little to no player activity and a small to nonexistent player base. "Dead game" has had this definition since live service games were invented.

Admittedly, I didn't read OP in all of it's entirety, but I don't believe they called DBD a "dead game." They used the word 'dead,' but not in the context you're used to seeing.

Beyond the title, the body of the post seems to talk about how the experience of Solo Queue has detriorated over time. Strictly speaking, 'dead' in this context is talking about a lack of excitement and motivation to play, rather than a dying community.

  • "Violence begets violence; hate begets hate; and toughness begets a greater toughness. It is all a descending spiral, and the end is destruction — for everybody. Along the way of life, someone must have enough sense and morality to cut off the chain of hate."

    - Marting Luther King Jr.

I played against a Wesker earlier who camped their first hook. The remaining 3 of us sat on gens, because we only had 1 gen complete at that time, and none of us had BT, OTR, DS, DH, etc.

I started running over for unhook about 15s before 2nd Stage, and Kate did the same as well. Our teammate went to 2nd Stage, but it looked like we were going to have a chance at a coordinated unhook. I gave Wesker a free hit so he'd chased me--he did--and not 5 seconds later our teammate let go on hook.

They stuck around and watched the entire match play out, only to talk smack in post about what terrible teammates they had for letting them go to 2nd Stage.

I understand the person's frustration, but they are out of their mind to be blaming their teammates.

I've stopped feeling sorry for my teammates when things don't go their way. This community is so divided, Survivors don't even know what it means to be a teamplayer--and why should they, when any one player can abandon objective for hatch. Survivors are not incentivized to work together, and it plagues this game to the core.

It's really upsetting that a large enough portion of this community defends the every-survivor-for-themself elements of this game, to the point where the devs a) don't see how problematic it is, or b) are afraid to make a change.

More than anything, this game needs a QoL patch that restores faith in Survivors' teammates, and pushes them to work together.

  • I've never complained about DH, so maybe I'm the wrong person to answer here, but...

I believe Exposed is okay (for the most part), because all of the insta-downs in the game have been designed with Killer strength and weaknesses in mind.

Starstruck on Nurse was busted, because the perk didn't consider how easy it was for Nurse to make up lost ground. On everyone else, the perk acts more as a "clear the area" effect, than one used to secure insta-downs.

DH is more similar to Starstruck Nurse than say... Starstruck Legion, because it wasn't designed to consider how much time a killer really loses when they need to injure every survivor 3 times per down.

When you look at Billy, Bubba, Myers, Skull Merchant, etc. they are designed with weaknesses, due to insta-down being their main threat. Dead Hard's only real weakness is latency, and that's not by design.

Honestly, a lot of this wouldn't even work on a good enough Blight. I assume that pallet is supposed to be the car pallet next to main in Coal Tower. A virtual tech can easily hit a survivor on the other side of the car while being unreactable. Not to mention Blight can moonrush on one side of the car and circle around almost a 270 degree to the other side, forcing a hit on a survivor. However, a survivor aware of these Blight techs can play around them and expect a preturn on a moonrush, a virtual tech, or straight bump logic, and can play accordingly.

I've played against some of this game's best Blights, so... yeah, the advice works.

As with anything though, simply knowing how to be better doesn't make you better. Hours of experience are needed to execute what you learn

  • This isn't as great as a video demonstrating the concepts, but hopefully some people can put this to practice and find success.

    image.png

If you don't run into a lot of hug tech Blights, and just struggle with how quickly he can run you down, my best advice is to constantly double back around thin obstacles. The wider the obstacle, the easier it will be for him to hit you as he flies around a corner.

  • @MikeyBoi said:

Blights skill ceiling is quite high, and the counterplay is just prethrowing pallets and camping them accordingly if he’s rushing and timing sliding back over the pallet for him to break the pallet instead of hitting the survivor as they’re vaulting over the same time he flicks. This is done in a lot in competitive play.

I will say this, compound 33, Alchemist ring, Compound 21 and Blighted Crow need to be nerfed. Those addons paired with slowdowns paired with a blight whose overcome the skill ceiling can be oppressive as hell even with a Swf. On maps like autohaven, Macmillans etc it’s hard to counter a good blight who brings all that. Chad blights will just run 1 perk either shadowborn or Agitation with Blighted rat and crow and that’s fine and fun for both sides..

Whats Momoseveniths blight win streak at now? 750 games in a row plus? 🤪

Prethrowing pallets may be good conventional wisdom, but the issue there is that you burn through pallets FAST, and then your entire team is screwed at the end of the game.

Rather than camping the pallet, and waiting to throw it down when the Blight comes around, just keep running around the loop.

  • The best advice I can give you is to play against more good Blights.

Unfortunately, that isn't exactly in your control, so if you'd like some pointers just lmk and I'd be happy to provide.

Of personal note, Blight is hands down my favorite killer to play against, and I exclusively solo queue these days.

It wasn't always that way, however, as I had to endure a ton of games against Ascension (and others just as talented), at the height of Blight's popularity. On PC-only servers, I was probably seeing Blight in 80% of my games for a full 3 months. It was brutal--every game was a sweatfest.

I'm really glad I came out the other end of it though, because while Blight is regarded as one of the best killers in the game, I find him to be the easiest to counter. He is extremely predictable, and Blight mains are relentless in their pursuit of lethal rushes.

I'll leave you with two tips, as I have videos on-hand to demonstrate the concepts.

    1) If Blight catches you in a deadzone, you want to double back on him as soon as he starts his rush. Take note of where he is going, what he'll bounce off of, and whether or not you have an object you can put between you two. If you're approaching a pallet, but Blight will beat you there with a rush, try running into him during his initial rush. He can't injure you until he hits his first wall, so if you can body block his rush, you'll buy yourself the extra seconds needed to reach the pallet.

Watch "The Double Back" on Streamable.

    2) Each time Blight rushes, he needs to commit to a direction. When Blight has you dead to rights, fake left and then go right ;)

Watch "The Switch Back" on Streamable.

I wish I had a clip for you around pallet loops, as I assume that is where most casuals struggle against him. If I play against a good Blight, I'll try to pull some videos for you, because it's hard to describe the counter on pallet loops without a visual aid to demonstrate.

Survivors should still have reasonable means to heal themselves. The nerf to healing in the PTB was too much, especially regarding altruistic healing speed. Now syringes will feel more like a necessity because they are the only strong way to heal yourself (Inner strength will be useless if everyone runs it). Of course the current healing is too strong, but that's less because of altruistic healing speed. That was never an issue IMO.

Fairplay. We'll see what BHVR has planned for us when they unveil the changes following PTB.

  • @FMG15 said:

What a terrible take. Healing should not be the least efficient thing in the game. Is it unreasonable to stay healthy against killers?. Do we now need to stay injured. The devs nerfed healing too hard that is not the survivors fault. Yes it's important to do gens. But guess what it's also important to stay healthy. Especially against the strong killers. Yes you need to do gens efficiently. But that doesn't change the fact, that survivors got overnerfed.

Is it unreasonable to stay healthy against killers?

    Actually, yes.

When Circle of Healing was introduced to the game, it completely eliminated an entire playstyle--Hit N' Run.

6 Killers (Wraith, Hag, Legion, Oni, Twins, and Onryo) have powers which are dependent on survivors staying injured for value. Additionally, 11 more Killers (Trapper, Nurse, Doctor, Freddy, Pig, Ghost Face, Demo, Deathslinger, Blight, Dredge, and Wesker) have powers that can shine with the Hit N' Run play style.

Altogether, that is 17 different playstyles that people are not seeing, because they are not currently viable ways to play the game.

Killers need to devote all of their time and resources to injuring a single survivor. Why should survivors be able to undo that effort for 1/4th the time and resources? Doesn't sound very fair, does it?

I definitely think you're 100% right with MMR setting up games that are decided within the first 20 seconds. I guess that raises an interesting question should the game be balanced around a match maker that prioritizes speed over quality? Both sides have absolutely ridiculous outliers at the top end that will absolutely slaughter 99% of the competition they run in to.

I guess my fear/concern is how does the balance work where the survivors aren't holding m1 on something for a long period of time. Either the gens take a long time, healing takes a long time, or chases last an extremely short time to balance 4 good survivors knowing what to do vs most of the killer cast(for the sake of fairness I also want to call out good nurses and blights/other top tier killers vs non swf/non meta survs, same thing where the outcome of the game is probably known before anyone loads in). None of those sound fun for survivors and on the other hand if all of those become fixed for survivors then the game isn't fun for killers and we fall more into the side of "first hook done, 3 gens popped, any damage done has been healed to other survs"

Lastly I do think the idea of moving the stall time from gen regression to healing isn't the best idea, but honestly I can't think of anything that isn't basically the same thing(something that weakens survivors at the start of the game when they are at their strongest but also has the unfortunate quality that it also weakens them after that point when that is no longer needed)

I've always thought that DBD should have Perk/Add-On Strength Matchmaking, to reduce the amount of stomps on either side.

If one side is looking for a chill opponent, they should be able to increase their chance of finding one by running little-to-no meta perks.

Likewise, if one side wants to play a more competitive game, they should be thrown in with other players running the strongest perks in the game.

Try to have a better day tomorrow~

Me: Responds to each of your talking points

You: You're missing my points on purpose

You came in here laughing at me like I had the worst take in history, then offered the most mediocre counterpoints imaginable. What did you expect to happen?

I know I'm creative in my post layouts so I give you permission to copy and paste it. But let's dissect this againnn...

"My post is directed at seasoned survivors who feel threatened by the PTB changes, not the 'SuRviVoR bAsE aS a WhOlE.' Not everyone takes issue with the PTB--it challenges a very specific group of players, who play the game a certain way."

You didn't respond to my good point though, many popular YouTubers and streamers complained about the PTB, even made dedicated videos about it. Are they bad and lazy players? They're some of the best, so it's obvious you're just upset that the devs are catering to the majority of the playerbase and not just you. The world doesn't revolve around you, idk if you've ever heard that in your life.

"No. See my response to Shroompy, above. If you are not playing to win, you cannot complain about the game being 'too difficult,' because you've chosen to make the game more difficult for yourself."

Once again, everyone has the right to complain no matter what. Freedom of speech exists. If a change is nonsensical, people are free to call out a nonsensical change. Which there were many, like if you seriously agree that the changes to Billy's add-ons were necessary, you are 100% part of the problem in this game.

"I implore you to learn more about rhetoric. This post is not complaining--the closest it comes to complaining is the anecdotal evidence I provide about my own experience."

No, you're complaining about survivors who don't take the game seriously. The proof is in the pudding: "In games that I don't escape, there are often spans of 3-5 minutes where I am the only one to touch a generator.".

Complain: to express grief, pain, or discontent.

Which sounds like to me you're complaining about your useless teammates and apparently no one but you ever takes this game seriously.

"Oh that is right, I forgot... I must provide my resume and years of experience in order to say anything on these forums. Is there an email I can submit that information to, I would hate to lose all credibility."

Or... admit the fact that no one is perfect at this game. You said that every time you lose a match it's because you're the ONLY one ever doing gens. You know that's not true lol you're reaching a bit but the branch broke.

"Congrats, I too like to attend parties and take all of the food so no one else can enjoy it. I love walking into public spaces and disturbing the peace, because my freedoms trump basic human decency. I especially love reminding people in online games that if they don't like how I play, they should go play something else, until I'm the only person left playing my favorite video game.

Play the game however you want. You are not who BHVR should be balancing around. It would be a disservice to Killer mains for BHVR to balance the game around you, and players like you. Because while you're off in la-la-land, believing you should escape without trying, some poor Killer has to compete with the tryhard survivor who has been given 4-5x the resources they need to win."

You're response to this is honestly laughable so I'm not even gonna entertain it. 🤣🤣🤣

'Do you see how that becomes a problem?

Do you see how asking for free handouts unfairly benefits those who worked their way to the top?

Do you see how your indifference to playing the game has harmful side effects on those who would actually like to?"

Also a laughable response. 😂 You don't know how I play, and I don't take this game as seriously as you, I have better things to do. Also no, no, aaaaand a no. The devs can change the game however they want and I'm not gonna waste time crying about it and blaming other people for changes that don't revolve around me.

"You didn't respond to my good point though..."

You call 'Youtubers and Streamers Said X, Y, and Z' a good point? People in positions of power are inclined to say whatever they believe will keep them in power.

I haven't seen or heard anything from any content creators, so I simply cannot respond to your so-call 'good point.' All I can say to you is that you should not give so much weight to the words of content creators.

"Once again, everyone has the right to complain no matter what. Freedom of speech exists."

The phrase "you have no right" is not one to be taken literally--I'm not taking away anyone's freedom of speech. It's a way of saying "you are not in a position to offer an opinion." Which you are not, on the topic of game balance, if you don't try to win when you play the game.

    No, you're complaining...

No, I am not. You read something you disagreed with, and you interpreted it as complaining. I've neither expressed grief, pain, nor discontent. The anecdote that you've quoted me on is nothing more than a report of my experience in-game. I offered no expression on how that makes me feel--any conclusions you've drawn about how I feel are pure conjecture.

You admit as much by saying "it sounds to me like..." You're trying to read between lines that are not there.

You know that's not true lol you're reaching a bit but the branch broke.

Oh I'm sorry, I don't recall playing a game with you. Do you have evidence to refute my claim? Or are you just calling bullshit because you don't like what you heard?

Your response is honestly so laughable so I'm not even going to entertain it

Tell me you don't know how to take accountability without telling me you don't know how to take accountability.

The irony in your "the world doesn't revolve around you" comment, whilst expecting everyone around you to tolerate your idgaf-attitude, is unparalleled. By the sounds of it, you're nothing but dead weight to your fellow survivors. Must be backbreaking, needing to carry you all the time.

"My post isn't addressing inexperienced survivors."

But it is considering they're the ones who would have these complaints in the first place? People who willingly put themselves at a disadvantage don't really complain, and if they do they're apart of a VERY small minority.

You're right that playing smart isn't sweaty, I should of used other wording. This whole thing here in fact I agree with but it fails to acknowledge that the game doesn't reward learning new skills or putting tones of hours into something.

"People who willingly put themselves at a disadvantage don't really complain, and if they do they're apart of a VERY small minority."

I would LOVE to concede this point to you, but I do not believe it to be true for this community. The majority here preach "DBD is a party game" and "DBD is too hard" at the same time. Too many people trying to have their cake and eat it too.

I can no longer blame BHVR for some of the major balance issues with this game, because they're receiving most of their feedback from players that want to win without understanding/implementing the game's core strategies.

You said earlier that people want options, and I agree with you on that point. But fundamentally, the strategy of an asymm game will always be for the majority number to spread out and make as much progress in as many places as they can, as fast as possible.

Oh boy another one of these posts... here we go... 🤣 Let's dissect this post starting withhhhh...

"So many of you are complaining about how difficult Survivor is going to be once PTB is pushed to live servers, when you are the reason Survivor is so difficult."

Uhh... how can you judge the survivor base as a whole and accuse them of never doing generators. Not everyone is a lazy teammate, some of us actually try hard to succeed. Just like not all killers are facecamping and tunneling. Very popular YouTubers and streamers complained HEAVILY about the PTB, dedicating videos to complaining about it, are they all lazy do-nothings too?

"You've no right to complain about how hard the game is when you continue to choose the least efficient strategies. Many of you knowingly do this, because "holding M1 is boring, and I refuse to sit on a gen all game."

First of all, everyone has the right to complain, that's what the forums are there for, discussing what's right and wrong with the game. Second of all, no one has the right to complain, but here you are complaining about people complaining. You're part of the complaining. 😂 Lastly, once again, you don't know that many of us do it because you don't know many of us, you don't know how we play so how can you say many of us do it when you don't even know?

"In games that I don't escape, there are often spans of 3-5 minutes where I am the only one to touch a generator."

Notice throughout your whole post, you never named one thing that you do wrong but you're here telling all of us about what we, who dislike things about the PTB because it is FAR from perfect, apparently all do wrong, because you 100% know every single person who complained about the PTB.

"This game cannot be balanced around people who are not playing to win."

Well guess what, not everyone's always trying to win. Me and, probably a few other players too, don't always care about sweating our behinds off, against killers who are also trying to sweat their behinds off trying to get a 4k every match, just to escape and get the extra 7k points. Escaping isn't winning, winning isn't everything, and to me, winning is having a good time with your matches. That being said, I purchased the game with my money, so I can play it however I want. I love casual games and don't always want to win, some matches I just go in wanting to learn the map better, or just to test out some new perks (This was obviously before the bot matches were implemented). In the end, it's ultimately up to the devs what changes go into the game and what changes don't so we can't all be blamed for what changes, particularly ones you don't like.

    Biology class over~ 😌

Oh boy another one of these responses... here we go... 🤣 Let's dissect this response starting withhhh...

"Uhh... how can you judge the survivor base as a whole and accuse them of never doing generators."

My post is directed at seasoned survivors who feel threatened by the PTB changes, not the 'SuRviVoR bAsE aS a WhOlE.' Not everyone takes issue with the PTB--it challenges a very specific group of players, who play the game a certain way.

"First of all, everyone has a right to complain"

No. See my response to Shroompy, above. If you are not playing to win, you cannot complain about the game being 'too difficult,' because you've chosen to make the game more difficult for yourself.

    "You're part of the complaining"

I implore you to learn more about rhetoric. This post is not complaining--the closest it comes to complaining is the anecdotal evidence I provide about my own experience.

"Notice throughout your whole post, you never named one thing that you do wrong"

Oh that is right, I forgot... I must provide my resume and years of experience in order to say anything on these forums. Is there an email I can submit that information to, I would hate to lose all credibility.

"Well guess what, not everyone's always trying to win...I purchased the game with my money, so I can play it however I want."

Congrats, I too like to attend parties and take all of the food so no one else can enjoy it.

Because while you're off in la-la-land, believing you should escape without trying, some poor Killer has to compete with the tryhard survivor who has been given 4-5x the resources they need to win.

Do you see how that becomes a problem?

Do you see how asking for free handouts unfairly benefits those who worked their way to the top?

Do you see how your indifference to playing the game has harmful side effects on those who would actually like to?

    TedTalk over~ 😌

  • @Shroompy said:

"You've no right to complain about how hard the game is when you continue to use the least efficient strategies." Im sorry, but this is just wrong.

One of the most common complaints from killers, is that its 'necessary' to camp and tunnel in order to win. Is this true in some scenarios? Absolutely, but in the large majority of cases its not. That doesnt stop those people from complaining, and they have every right to do so.

People want to feel as if they have options that are actually meaningful. Can you imagine just how boring this game would be if all anyone did was play 100% optimally? Or literally any game for that matter? People play games for fun, some want to just sit back and have a good time, not sweat their ass off.

In the case of this PTB, its been a common complaint that holding M1 is just not fun and should be addressed in some way. Wanna know how their complaints were heard? By making them hold M1 even longer. It just feels like a slap in the face.

My post isn't addressing inexperienced survivors.

If I only run No Mither, and bring no items or offerings, I cannot then complain to the devs about how difficult their game is--I have voluntarily made the game more challenging for myself. I am using the same logic in my post--these aren't new concepts I'm bringing to the table.

Playing smart is not "sweating." People play PvP games because competition is fun. Having the opportunity to outplay your opponent and master new skills are fun. Feeling like a valuable contributor towards a team is fun. Picking others up when they are down feels good.

This isn't a singleplayer game. "Sitting back and having a good time" still requires a certain level of engagement and thought. Your opponent is trying to beat you, and you're souring the experience for your teammates if you are not trying to beat them.

  • Questions like these are why I stopped taking the surveys. Any answer I give is going to be extremely misleading in the data.

Just for fun, a youtuber actively seeking the achievement as it's literally the only one he hasn't done

    https://youtu.be/4fMW9p5NFt0

This is literally me. I had 10, without actively trying to complete the achievement. And now it's just been pain making an effort to get the remaining 10. I've definitely played on the map over 150 times, because it is all that we'd get when Wesker came out, and I'd wager I even have a decent escape rate on it.

  • @Bot_Salvo88 said:

Eh, i did it randomly the other day without even noticing it.

Don't get me wrong, if you only aim to get the achievement you will suffer a lot. I just found it funny that I did it randomly

I don't think I'd mind as much if the map and achievement had been in the game since early on. I'd view it as an achievement that I'd inevitably get done passively, even if it took a couple years.

My play style just doesn't lend itself to getting this achievement accidentally. I seldom open gates, as I'm either taking last chase or going to help whoever needs it. Often times I'll be the one to 99% a gate, then hang back and let someone else open it as I body block the killer

Yea, I agree with you but when someone DC in the first 5 min, when you are being slugged and the killer wants to do it (lot of wasted time) or you see Doctor with abusing the broken Merciless Storm (yes that happend)... you just don't want to continue playing PTB more.

Ah, yeah I've another word for those type of players 🙃

I don't know how reliable it is, but I've seen and heard from several people that the PTB has a lot of performance issues.

Some of those could be crashes. I don't know for sure though, BHVR hasn't let us console players use the ptb :(

Character animations look 8-bit--it's extremely comical seeing Wesker (who I believe has the most animated movement animation), chase after survivors at 5 FPS.

    @Chocolate_Cosmos said:

This was probably the worst PTB (at least in recent memory) I have played. There was maybe like 1 game that was longer than 10 min. 90% of the time people DC. Tryhard killers using the most unfun things possible, etc.

I wouldn't jump to calling the killers 'tryhards.' The PTB needs stress testing, and killers are bringing what they believe are the strongest perk combos to evaluate the changes before they hit live servers. If killers aren't pushing the changes to their limit, then BHVR will have less of a chance to spot unforeseen balance issues.

Both sides should come into PTB expecting to face janky and overpowered synergies. It seems like people have this expectation that PTB is a casual sneak peak of upcoming features, when they should be treating it like a QA test.

  • I don't mean to be that guy, but like... it's not that hard to reach Iri 1.

It's more a statement of how frequently you play than how good you are.

I would expect most people with at least 200hrs to have no trouble reaching Iri

  • If you're injured, and the killer is definitely going to catch you, run past a locker and jump in just as they would go for a lunge. Don't make it obvious you'll jump in the locker (by running straight at it), or the killer won't swing.

If you're not injured, you can try to take loops towards strong windows (like shack), and try to pace yourself so that the killer goes for a risky lunge as you vault the window.

Another good way is to run MoM, Breakout, Circle of Healing, and Sabo, then try to bait the killer into basic attacks while carrying a survivor.

  • I'm a masochist. I'm returning from a 5 month hiatus for pain and suffering.

    @Tsulan said:

While i´m not saying that DbD will die, there is a high chance the playerbase will drop in the next 2 months anyway. But that would be because of something that has nothing to do with DbD.

Next week is the release of Meet your Maker, in a month is the release of Age of Wonders 4 and in 2 months will be the release of Diablo 4. So there might be a visible decline in the DbD playerbase, but not because of the changes.

Sure, those games might not be everyones cup of tea, but there is a chance that at least one of those games will draw in heavy attention playerwise.

Is there really that much anticipation for MYM?

I know deathruns gained popularity when Fortnite introduced Creative, but that was only because content creators were putting up stupid amounts of prize money.

The genre is otherwise underappreciated by all but speedrunners, because the average gamer doesn't have the patience to grind the same level over and over.

If MYM pops off, I'd imagine it's a sleeper hit that takes a full year to attract a wider audience.

  • I would like to see Left Behind reworked into a Token-based perk that rewards great players.

Every token improves the aura reading distance, and the final token enables a survivor to open hatch without a key.

Ideally, tokens would be earned by reaching certain bp thresholds, but I can't see them making a perk tied to bp.

The point is that this addition doesn't give survivors any advantage that they don't already have.

CHOOSING to listen to music instead of game audio is handicapping yourself, and this change allows you to do that but STILL doesn't give you an advantage over people who just use the game audio.

So I don't see your point.

An unfair buff would be seeing the killer through walls, not giving players information they already have access to just in a different form.

My point was that their comment was blatantly false.

We don't know how many players deliberately handicap themselves when they play DBD. No one on these forums can definitively state whether or not this change will have any impact on the overall performance of survivors.

It doesn't matter if people have been CHOOSING to handicap themselves. The fact of the matter is that some people do, and the update will inevitably help those people perform at a higher level, despite the disadvantage they impose upon themselves.

When you consider the fact that some people feel Spine Chill is a MUST pick, for one reason or another, the physical heartbeat will give those survivors one more perk to play with.

  • @IlliterateGenocide said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3381886#Comment_3381886

You mean a heartbeat that will have no effect on normal players but will only help the disabled?

There are plenty of abled listeners who will benefit from this feature.

I've a friend who jams out to drum and bass music while we play DBD. Half the reason they get caught out is because they can't hear the killer's terror radius. This update will allow him, and people like him, to continue jamming to music while playing DBD.

Additionally, I would prefer to play the game at a lower volume. The menu sounds (specifically the bloodweb) are agonizingly loud, with no option to lower it. Now I can lower the volume without the inconvenience of needing to remember to raise it once I'm in-game.

Generally, the sounds in DBD are of poor quality, and I rather be listening to anything but the game if I can do so without detriment to myself or my teammates

If you are losing 2-3 gens as a S tier killer while running CI before you get your first down that is a skill issue. And ever since they changed the MM from 1900 I don't ever see 2 gens pop with CI as I get my first down. 1900 was also before the 6.1 patch which also helped killers.

A 'skilled' killer should be getting matched against equally 'skilled' survivors.

...so no, it's not really a skill issue.

  • @Trollinmon said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3384917#Comment_3384917

Well explain how that isn't a skill issue on the Spirit's end if you are losing 2-3 gens first chase when running CI?

Because the game is mathematically unfavorable towards killers.

It has nothing to do with skill.

Yeah, pair it with overzelous. Go for a totem, and now you make up the lost time repairing the gen. There are plenty of ways to do this.

Also, prior to CoH and boons, inner healing was super meta as a way to heal yourself because self care was bad, and breaking totems prevents noed, and many killers were running ruin+undying.

Overzealous buff is pretty lit--I totally forgot about it. You're right, those 2 together will be a strong combo.

  • @Reinami said:

Autodidact is a single perk, inner healing is a single perk. You don't need to make an entire build dedicated to healing....

Inner Healing takes 14 seconds to break a totem + time to find the totem. Then 8 seconds in the locker + time to slowly enter and leave. You'll spend more time trying to get Inner Healing value than if you'd brought a medkit.

the winds are changing and you'd be a fool to sail against them.

So how do you plan on beating on the Spirits that are going to be around? Spirit wants you to stay injured and if players start bring BNP she can bring ring+ amulet. You'd be a fool to bring no healing perks next patch.

You beat her the same way you beat every killer--do gens as fast as possible. She can't be everywhere at once.

Maybe you don't realize how much wasted gen progression occurs when people decide to heal.

  • @Caiman said:

There's these great perks called Solidarity, Renewal, Resurgence, and Reactive Healing that you might want to look into.

You forgot about perks like inner healing, autodidact (which is actually going to be good now), second wind, and other ways to heal yourself that aren't just "healing" yourself.

Like I said, the winds are changing and you'd be a fool to sail against them.

Compensating for survivors new dump stat is a losing battle. You should not dedicate an entire build to be decent at one thing, when you can create a loadout that makes you great at multiple things or excellent at one thing.

@Caiman have fun running Reactive Healing into the countless Sloppy Butchers you'll be facing.

  • Disappointment.

The longer you play, the more expectations you have for the direction the game should move in. When those expectations are not met, the game slowly loses its appeal.

When I got into DBD I was not a fan of the horror genre--neither in games nor in cinematography. I enjoyed the game because of it's core gameplay loop. As a result, I'm more interested in seeing improvements to gameplay than licensed DLC.

Since the release of Pyramid Head, I've been disappointed in just about every update they've released. The game isn't moving in the direction I would like, so I've lost interest in it.

I can't deny the impact the game has had on me, though. Since I got into DBD, I've seen Halloween, TCM, Nightmare on Elm St., Saw, Silent Hill, Pinhead, Friday the 13th, and I've played RE Village.

  • @ad19970 said:

You will still want to be able to heal. Yes you will waste more time doing so, but on the other hand, the 3 strongest regression perks are being nerfed hard, and I think some people do not realise the impact of what that's going to have.

And yes, people will still want to go for unhooks as well. Unless the killer camps I guess. Camping will need to be nerfed anyways with this patch.

In my experience, the average survivor seldom makes up the time wasted healing, in chase, resulting in a net loss on objective progress.

The mid-chapter will only further compound this issue.

There are only a few scenarios in which it makes sense to heal:

    • Working on a gen in a deadzone
    • Stealth killer and gen has limited LOS
    • Killer is running Thana and/or is Oni
    • Preparing to body block or make a risky play (unsafe unhook, pallet save, etc.)

If you have a genuine issue with it, I recommend tapping basic attack, rather than holding it for a lunge. The average player is physically incapable of reacting to the basic attack animation speed. I'm not sure how prevalant hackers still are, so idk if people are still exploiting frame-perfect DHs, but that simple change to your gameplay should bring you more success.

I was already doing that, people still manage to DH away most of the time. Even after trying to force it out in lunge range for like 5 seconds.

RIP. Well then, hopefully for your sake the perk is dead after mid-chapter.

I never use it as Survivor, so the change doesn't effect me. I'm still waiting for the community to get on board with Vigil + Sprint Burst, because a lobby where all 4 survivors run those 2 perks is insane. Unbelievably slept on combo that would need to be nerfed if it saw as much use as DH.
