I'll make this short. This is an asymmetrical 4 vs 1 horror game correct. Asymmetrical, uneven, odd, and unfair. Survivors use their perks and tools and critical thinking to think of the best way to win, right? Killers ALSO use perks, add-ons, and critical thinking to win. If a killer finds a TACTIC that works, like tunneling, that should be fine. From all that I've read, a bunch of you f*cking hate tunneling and get so mad when we use a tactic to our advantage. It's not cheating, breaking the game, it's just a TACTIC THAT WORKS.
thats not what asymmetrical means in this context, and as someone who has been consistently high ranked since release, no, tunneling/camping are inconsistent and prevent you from scoring high and getting consistent 4ks
Anyone who needs to defend it as a "tactic" needs to learn to play killer

It dawned on me, The devs keep saying they wanted to change the hud so they have more free space for future additions. It seems rather odd to change the hud without these new additions. (The hook counters are small and could of easily been added to our current hud) they seem highly insistent on keeping this new hud and keeping the character portraits vertical instead of Horizontal. My take on this is that the next killer or maybe the anniversary killer is gonna add some new game mechanic that required the hud to be redone for. Any ideas what kind of gameplay mechanic would require a hud overhaul? New status effect? I dunno but It does seems really odd to change huds like this for no real good reason, I suspect the next killers they have plan are the reason.
I thought about this as well, and I would stand by the fact that no killer could be interesting enough to warrant such a terrible change. It would be a gimmick and a very lame one at that...

to the killers who somehow think you need to tunnel to get consistent 4ks. You make us killer mains look bad. You 100% do not...

If you want to keep as much information on your screen at once why would you aim it so far down such that the bottom of the screen is not very useful? Would you just aim higher on maps like Thompson House where seeing higher is useful? I'd call this simple preference, not some sort of standard/meta tactic lol
thompson's is so unusually high, and def an exception to normal dbd. In most situations, this angle puts the most information on your screen. There is a line where there is no more useful information, but angling your camera in specific ways keeps all of the relevant info on screen at once. Camera manipulation has always been a big deal to getting info and I just dont think the devs understand these facets of the game enough to make effective changes

I'm not sure I'd agree with that - I have no large scale data on this of course but I don't angle my camera this far down. This feels pretty claustrophobic to me. Even with as much tilt as is in this screenshot, though, the top left would rarely be blocking anything useful. Something would have to be a floor above the survivor or extremely far away for it to be that high on the screen.
We're just gonna have to disagree on this one. I've been playing since release and this is just standard with higher ranked survs. Keeping as much info on your screen at a time is really important, and this gives you info on things at a distance. You can see killers from a distance, gens, everything. This just kinda is the standard.

Were you happier with them in the top left?
honestly they're both pretty awful. Im not sure which is worse yet, I haven't played with them in the center, but I can't imagine this will be significantly better. Id have to assume it would be a bit better, but it might make looping VERY uncomfortable. Honestly I still see no reason to move it from the bottom of the screen. The bright aspect of it is also very jarring. I always turn over my phone when I play, bright colors are a bit distracting in this environment. I've literally just set them to the smallest GUI scale and have been trying to ignore them. Its awful, and has been causing a lot of issues with managing certain killer abilities, but its more comfortable than trying to manage this

I'm not sure what this means
https://i.ytimg.com/vi/zasEuhjlRqU/maxresdefault.jpg
I typed in "dbd gameplay". This is a random, but solid, example. Most people naturally angle their cameras this way. Notice how the hooked person is physically higher on the screen? This angle provides your entire screen with information. The top and center of your screen shows what is ahead of you more effectively because dbd isnt a first person perspective as a survivor. Your eyes are effectively above your head, so this angle provides far more information. If survs played in first person then you would be right, there would be no great reason to be looking up other than to find gen lights. But due to this perspective, the top part of your screen is often showing you important information about where people and things are

@Mandy said:
The reason that they're not horizontal is because it allows us to make things clearer.
Who knows what might need to be added in the future as well, we have said there might be more things on the HUD in future.
I really have to disagree on the clarity thing. I feel like having the information displayed in this format is genuinely less useful. We view grouped information horizontally, its why most languages write horizontally, we evolved to scan from one side to another. All this does is spread the information and put it in a less comfortable format. Not to mention it does still just cover the screen. Idk i feel like we should be made aware of these "future additions" could possible be that they'd warrant them needing so much space. Even then, a 2x2 grid at the bottom left would take up less space while still providing much more room to dedicate to each icon

Bear traps? Phantasm traps? Dropped items? Totems? I don't see how the top quarter of the screen is more valuable. I would prefer the portraits in one of the corners (even the top quarter) over the side middle, but this diagram feels very arbitrary lol
because cameras are often angled in a way to maintain the most useful information on your screen at a given time, which puts information in front of you, not under your nose

Why is the bottom quarter of the screen not included in the "useful view" section? This doesn't make a ton of sense to me.
because you aren't scanning that area. You aren't actively looking for anything in the distance at ankle level. Grass and walls often block anything at that height either way. There is also no killer that could fit within that area, and anything in front of you that you wouldnt want to step on (various traps), will already be in your central vision if you can see it.
The upper parts of your screen are where you see killers/survs, gens and totems, vaults and chests. Nothing you are actively looking for will never be sitting at the bottom of your screen

they're still in the middle of the screen... how do they not see the problem here?

So right now Wraith is not very strong he’s very weak. Here’s my rework Wraith will get.
increase cloaked speed to 195.5% speed(7.82 M/S). Make it so wraith can go through walls and pallets since he’s cloaked and he can’t attack he should be able to go through walls since he’s technically in another world when cloaked. This wouldn’t be OP cause Spirit can do what wraith does but better but spirit can’t go through walls but can turn invisible and attack. Wraith can’t attack while cloaked but to compensate he can go through walls and pallets and moves fast at the cost of not attacking.
next I’ll silence his footstep sounds and growling while cloaked because once again since he can’t attack he should be completely quiet so he can sneak up and hit people. His true invisibility will stay the same like it is now.
when Wraith uncloaks the bing bing sound will only play when within 16m of the wraith and his speed boost when coming out of cloak will still be 1.25 seconds.
When Wraith recloaks the woosh sound will not play so people don’t know when he turns invisible again. When he uncloaks the woosh sound will play to let people know he’s able to attack but to compensate when he turns invisible the woosh sound doesn’t play.
That’s my proposed rework to The Wraith he was very simple to rework if he had all of this he could be very very strong. What are your thoughts on my rework?
you clearly do not understand how to play wraith...
The only really like salvageable part is the walking through walls aspect. If this mode had like, a longer time, it would be an interesting tool to be used to force certain body blocks

Okay I've completely had it with the toxicity in this game. Every other game I load in there is a toxic claudette tea bagging, body blocking, camping and what not.
It just sucks the fun out of the game because if I ignore them they'll just continue to be anoying and spam flashlights and firecrackers, rush vault over everything to give me a billion notifications etc.
If I chase them for some reason the entire teams seems to think it is 'funny' to join is this toxicity and do whatever they can to stop me from killing this disgrace of a 11 year old piece of [bad word].
Please is there anything I can do to prevent it because I want to enjoy playing this game but these players just make it impossible. Disconnecting is also not an option because it will result in me getting a penalty whilst survivors don't seem to get one because they DC like half of the time.
its too hard to define in the first place, let alone put a system in place to record this behavior

What kind of kill rate do you want so you would finally be statisfied? According to some voices here, people seem to want to 4k legit every single match. I mean do you guys realize the othr side of the same coin wants to have fun too?
A kill rate of 100% is NOT balance! Balance would be 50/50 which means killers getting a average of 2k in most matches.
you see theres this thing called a moron. They aren't good at the game, and both sides have them, and they are very good at b1tching about everything because they don't know any better. They're also notoriously loud

I play Killer & Survivor 50/50, i'm rank 1 in both and have been for quite some time so i'd like to think I have an unbiased opinion when it comes to nerfs and i'll be the first to agree that Undying/Pop didn't need to be nerfed.
But with that said, how much is too much? It seems like every single patch I see countless posts begging for survivor nerfs.. and then when you finally get what you want, you immediately start asking for another nerf?
In most recent events.. Infinites got nerfed? wasn't enough. Toolboxes + all Addons got nerfed? wasn't enough. Gen speeds got nerfed? wasn't enough. Hook saboing got nerfed? wasn't enough. More maps got reworked? wasn't enough. Keys are being reworked? wasn't enough. Decisive just got nerfed and Object has been confirmed for a nerf at a later date? Still not enough..
Now I see people demanding a Dead Hard nerf when anyone who uses it knows you end up dead on the ground 7/10 times.
I mean hell.. Just last week I saw someone asking for a Spine Chill nerf because it wasn't fair to stealth killers.
Will you truly ever be satisfied? or is it human nature to just constantly want more and more after you get your way once?
the problem is players like us who learned the game don't complain. Its the people who refuse to learn counterplay who b!tch about every little thing. There will never be any way to satisfy these people. Unfortunately until dbd starts caring about their game and their active community, others will continue to hop on any opportunity to say BHVR doesnt know how to balance

Boil Over. Impossibly garbage. No decent killer has ever been slowed ever by the perk. Even if all the perk did was reduce the wiggle bar's size by 10/15/20% it would be 1000x more useful and actually be a perk you could consider running
-
good killers understand how terrible it really is as a perk. Getting one unearned kill every 15 games is inconsistent and weak. Far too much counterplay for it to be considered good

I dont see how you figure. Ghost face's mori has more energy that any other mori. The deathslinger has that beautiful end pose, but thats about it. Oni's is brutal, and yes he tears out their tongue, but it lacks any singular focus. Ghost face has the best of both. The process of killing them is there, and thematically perfect, it isnt a one and done. It also maintains that perfect frame where hes holding the camera. Its so in your face in that tongue and cheek kinda way. Funny, but not goofy or toxic. It just feels so iconic at this point

Here's mine, really? Plague A teir, her mori is boring and non brutal (yes this is in order from best to worst)
she strangles them to death with her weapon (so few mories take good use of their weapon in the animation). Then she ######### acids their face off with her power, once again so many ignore. Freddy literally does one of his most iconic kills ever as a mori animation. In what world is Ghost not S tier? He is the king of the mori.
-
the fact that wraith doesn't obliterate them with his bell is insane to me.

@[Deleted User] said:
Huntress is A tier imo. She literally tears the survivor head in half.
being brutal doesnt change the fact that all she does is swing her axe at them. Honestly I'd put her at B at best. She could ######### pitch her axe at them and shake their skull off by bashing it into the ground. Or she could throw hatchets at either hand, locking them to the ground as they struggle in pain before she cleaves their chest in half. She has so many great options
-
legion is unfun to play and unfun to play against. He's good at slowing a game down to a halt, so he isnt necessarily bad, but he has nothing to confirm a down within his base kit, which makes chases feel so boring. Hes infuriating to play against as a surv, as a slow grindy game is also just boring. On top of that, your normal safeties of vaults no longer exist, so thats just anti comfort. Nothing about him is conducive to fun gameplay.

People ######### about DS, Unbreakable, Soul Guard, Borrowed Time, whatever else. What I don't understand is why people don't complain about Dead Hard nearly as much. I almost never see it talked about despite it being at the very least one of the most busted survivor perks in the game.
Dead Hard, when used right, is--to me at least--the most oppressive survivor perk. In chase, it's basically a free health state, and especially against certain killers like Nurse. And all you have to do is press E. No talent involved, wasting so much time of the killer, and it's not something with limited use (like unbreakable which can only be used once), or something that the killer allows you to use (DS).
It doesn't really matter if half the time it's used you're exhausted on the ground. You can make a similar case in point that DS is not very impactful on a game because people use it as soon as possible, often times after their first hook, rather than preserving it for more critical times. Same with Unbreakable: using it as soon as possible rather than strategically.
DH is the most infuriating piece of shite perk ever but I don't ever see people complain about it and rallying around it getting reworked and I actually don't understand why.
as a killer main, you anticipate it. You assume everyone has it. You wait the half second, you swing. If they didnt use it in their first chase, you assume they dont have it. Getting to that window or vault is something you need to learn to assume so long as they havent been cleared of it. Some killers give the option of providing exhaustion. In these situations you always bring it and you just get to play much more agro. My huntress is ALWAYS increased windup speed and exhaustion of some kind. I quick throw a point blank hatchet, 4 seconds later they are downed because I dont HAVE to be careful. The other counter is anyone who can expose or one down. So, Oni, Myers, ghost face, billy, hillbilly, all counter without add ons or perks. Huntress can already counter as I said. You can't dead hard out of a bear trap. That is 70% of the roster right there. Anyone else can be running haunted, devour, make your choice, or any other exposure perk. These also directly counter DS. DS is the ONLY exhaustion perk that is contingent on the killers' actions. It is the glass cannon of exhaustion perks. The most versatile, and one of the most effective, but by far the single easiest exhaustion perk to counter and deny the use of as a killer. This is why DH is fine

Im going back to playing as survivor to be honest its not fun playing as killer.
killer is def harder to swap to if you main surv, but its just way more fun for me. At the higher tiers of play, and if you know what you are expecting, its really rare i lose an encounter in a way that wasnt my fault

You're kidding me. Survivors actually extend their bodies before they run and as they stop, also when they crouch. They trip every once in a while when they run injured. I could go on. The only thing I don't think looks all that great is the idle animation, but I'm not complaining because the cosmetics don't stretch anymore.
its like the uncanny valley. A puppet can have so much personality put into it. The fact that every animation is so rigid in its range of motion makes survs feel so lifeless. Is the animation more realistic? Probably yea. Does it look more natural or lifelike? Absolutely not. Its far more robotic than it ever was

This recent patch has everyone in a riot and i don't see much of a reason why you're all acting like the games dying in the water. I've played the newest features since the new Archives started and i find the game still very playable.
Are hitboxes a problem? Yeah, i've noticed it too, but i'm not yelling about it. I've been both Survivor and Killer and i'm still escaping and getting kills.
Are there glitches in the newest patch? Yeah, but when isn't there? They can't catch onto everything until we let them know about it. Glitches happen all the time, but the Devs are actually doing something about it, unlike other companies who leave their game and not look back. Anyone seen anything new about that Last Year game? There was meant to be a new killer coming and i haven't seen anything about it since. I never played it, but i look these things up.
The Devs are actually trying to fix the problem as quick as they can, so can everyone stop going on about the bugs like they're staying? I don't hold this kind of thing on the Devs. In fact, the only thing i'm upset with them about is the lack of any news on Chapter 19.
So can everyone just stop being so dramatic! The game isn't over and its being patched, so just cool it, k?
The real reason we are so hard on them? Time after time they poll the community, they ask us for feedback, they "listen" to us. They've always clearly heard what the community wants. They just do not care. They do what they want, often at the expense of the game's health. They patch over major issues with small bug fixes. They've spoken often about spaghetti code but just keep pushing update after update to bells and whistles without stopping to fix their core issues. If we didn't get a new chapter for six full months, no new content of any kind, no tomes, no nothing, and they spent that time to reorganizing themselves, fixing bugs, taking in numbers and listening to people who understand how the game functions so they can truly address balance, no one would mind. We went for so long without any real new content in the past and no one cared. We love the core concept of the game, and they truly have no direct competition. So what do they do when they outrage the community? What do they do when they push and push? They do damage control. They have NEVER proactively listened to what the community wanted on any major issue, they wait until people are pushed to mass exodus and until the review bombs start, then they drop a few free bp and say "we'll figure it out". So much of the community just accepts the bp and goes on their merry way but we really have spoiled them... they get away with treating the community that turned an indie studio into a big name like absolute garbage, and we enable it.
Do you remember anyone asking for graphical or animation updates? Was this something anyone cared about at all? Many people outright hate the new designs as they don't fit in with the less realistic overall style of the game. A lot of people think they make the game's flaws far more glaring, and that in an attempt to look and feel like more of a mainstream title, has lost much of its charm. So why is this their only real focus? Why do they only care about the hot topics? Why cant they just stop and fix the spaghetti code if its such an issue? Why do these huge bugs get past PTB? What other publisher is allowed to produce such a mess of a game without major scrutiny? Fall out 76 killed Bethesda's reputation, No man's sky (despite the resurgence in updates) destroyed a company. Cyber punk made everyone question the ability of the creators of the ######### witcher. Why does BHVR get a pass for a game that is so so broken? Why SHOULD they get a pass? We enable this and we need to be vocal that this is not sustainable

welcome back to #3 of who would win in a 1v1 fight between the dbd killers. their powers included. todays matchup is a doozie! oni vs pyramid head! make sure to put who you think would win in the comments!
if their powers are included Id have to say pyramid head. Oni would have to just outpower him. Oni's sword wouldn't be able to go for any kind of good shot with that pyramid helmet covering most vital areas. The club would be a cool option but like, I don't see him doing enough damage by just bashing with it against someone that massive.
PH's giant ######### sword would bust past oni's sword no problem. Oni could defend with the club but I dont think trying to overpower pyramid head would be that effective.
If we are assuming Oni still needs someone else's blood to even use blood fury, then he's going to need to use his sword to try to get to a point where he gets his major strength buff, at which point pyramid head can just ######### trample him.
On top of ALL of that, pyramid head has a pretty brutal ranged attack which just pushes him that much further ahead. Even without his weapon and armor advantages, this along could very likely give him the win

Look, i have no Idea on how this works, so i ask you guys who maybe have a little bit more knowledge on that topic.
The recent update broke many things, mostly for survivor but also for killer.
We can agree that it wasnt a very good patch regarding fun in this game.
In my head i am like "isnt there a back up file?" just reverse the update and work on it until its not game breaking anymore? Isnt that a safety net game Devs should have? I mean, what if there would be a bug where people (killer or survivors) could make the game crash? It would be abused by trolls and the game would be litterally unplayable.
And it seems there would be no going back because right now the game is kinda broken and not reverted to the previous patch.
So do they even have the option to revert back to the last patch? or do they just not want to?
Just asking, as i said I have no idea on how this works. So anyone explaining me would be nice :)
of course they can, there is no dev team in the world incompetent enough not to have a save of every major build of a project like this. They just choose not to because their "work" is something they refuse to compromise. Unfortunately they don't know the first thing about game design (from like a professional stand point), to make intelligent choices

But most Killers MUST sweat for that 4K and Survivors are so sick of it. The Devs already said it's a 6% chance us Survivors escape anyway, yet Killers want to sweat so hard for a 4K.
"because they're being sweaty" is a really bad reason that any side should get to manipulate factors outside a game to change the results... Whether they're sweaty or not, there should not be anything anyone can do outside of the game environment to change the game environment, period. I don't really know what the solution would be other than general dc penalties, but whether one side deserves it or not, there is no argument that this is healthy for the game

That doesn't make much sense because 10% and garish makeup kit = long duration. Normal tonics have a duration, and I don't think you are understanding 125% speed compared to 80% with flask of bleach. You get a 45% speed boost over a survivor compared to 115% over 80% That's a big boost. Like sure people who haven't played clown as much as me and some others won't fully understand this concept of significant this boost is. Even some of the top clown mains, have said this is a good strategy. I used it to close gaps, and throwing multiple tonics would've actually made the gap take much longer. If you set it up like I did in the video it is helpful. Is it the biggest buff he could've gotten? No, but that doesn't make it not a pretty decent buff for him.
Not gonna say I play him enough to be an expert, but it just felt kinda weak for a buff? I get that its a buff, not a rework, but it just still feels a bit underwhelming.

The only killer perk I have an issue with is Hex: noed cause even if I've done well as a solo, the killer gets rewarded for "playing average". So this leads me to my deal...
I mean... all perks either unlock an ability or reward you in some way for "playing average". Thats just what a perk is. Noed really is kinda weak due to how inconsistent actual value in it is, and as such it is very rarely used in the higher ranks. Optimal play encourages totems to be done earlier anyway to set up inner strength, and decent players tend to have taken note of where the dull totems were earlier in the match. Its also contingent on even getting to that point in the game. Its annoying when it does work, I agree, and results in unearned downs, but if you get one unearned down every 20 games, its not a strong perk, its an annoying perk.
-
especially considering how many killers rely on snow ball. Some trappers will willingly give the one or even two free gens, uncontested in the name of setting up. Its just an unfair thing to have to account for.

https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/227308/pallets-saves-shouldnt-require-waiting
The range on pallet stuns is already absurd as most of the time I get hit by stuns when I respect and stop in front of the pallet. If you're unable to wait the time for an EXTREMELY lenient save then you deserve to fail.
"Oh a killer doesn't look around."
The issue here is, that I can look around all I want, the animation takes approximately two centuries to finish, if you down a survivor by a pallet they'll crawl there and stay under it like a stubborn baby and what if I find someone who's waiting nearby?
- If I chase them off and follow them, someone else might get the downed player or they might get unbreakable to trigger.
- If I chase them off but then stop and go back to pick up the survivor, unless someone made their way to him in the mean time, the same person can just see me backing up and just run back after me and it's just a waste of time that benefits survivors already.
- If I chase them and actually take the time to down them then if they have some basic looping abilities, it's probably going to take a good amount of time to do so and someone else might get the first guy and this guy might get downed by a pallet and just lay down catching sun under a pallet again with someone else round the corner and the killer is back at square 1 with nothing gained but a lot of time wasted.
You'd know this if you actually played killer for a fair amount of time. Next thing you'll want to request a timer showing you when the next skill check will happen because that shouldn't require timing either...
As someone whose been red ranks consistently since release, and plays almost entirely killer, I can tell you you are doing it wrong. If they are staying close to you for that long waiting for the save you can easily down them or get them to burn the pallet anyway, its incredibly easy...

I've seen that before and the more I look at it the more I dislike it. It looks overly packed and at a quick glance would be very difficult to see the required Survivor information.
really couldn't disagree more. Its a tiny bit more packed than the old one, yes, but maybe that kinda says more to certain info not being relevant? Like the total number of hook states?

i mean moris arent nearly as strong anymore. They're good for saving your hooks for later use, and can deny one ds per surv, but not nearly as brutal

the problem with these polls is that we need to take the killer sided answers 4 to 1 cause of the survivor to killer ratio...
yea but that would imply 4 times the people saying its killer sided. Its already like 5 times saying its surv sided. Both sides feel it. There are way too many connected pallets. Even besides that, the map just kinda sucks now...

I hate how so many people think they are "listening to feedback". Numbers were way down, outrage on every platform was an all time high. Listening to feedback means making choices based on what we want. Releasing a hot fix when youre losing money and getting review bombed is damage control. There is a big difference and people need to understand that.
anytime there is something we dont like, they dont start changing it until they start seeing dips in play or reviews... this isnt the first, but we'll take ur 50k bp, a pat on the head and be on our way, like last time, like next time...

I was going to join the Discord to check it out but it seems sketchy that they require you to verify your phone number to join. No other discord I've joined has required that, it's unnecessary.
yea and its kinda hard to hold a conversation over there. Most discords make multiple general chats, they just removed reactions and have general on a constant 60 second cool down

How is this a clear lack of care for the userbase?
The main complaints were the items being too spread out, mainly the objective counter on the top (now grouped with the other elements), and the status icons now as far towards the bottom as they can go.
one of the issues, the other being how it obscures the screen and is generally distracting.

"They won't even tell us why they want this vertical layout so badly."
Two words, my friend. Discord users. The current layout is clearly inspired by the Discord overlay.
if thats why thats a really poor reason to begin with, but the least they could do is convey that

So in a recent tweet, they've claimed they are making these huge compromises.
"A quick list of the most notable changes:
• Lowered Survivor statuses
• Lowered hook counter
• Moved objectives from top to bottom left
• Removed text from objectives
• Skill checks now have their own UI scaling option"
It is just so painful that they are passing this central left positioning off as "bottom left". Not only has it been made clear that we will not play like this, but what does this half measure crap do? If they are so dead set on leaving more space for the names and icons, why not just do a 2x2 grid? there is so much empty space at the bottom not being used. They won't even tell us why they want this vertical layout so badly.
If this was about doing what the community wanted they wouldnt have waited for review bombs and terribly low number of active users. This is damage control, and the responses we've been seeing via socials just doesn't make me feel like our opinions are valued.
I've loved this game since release, I have thousands of hours and have recommended this game to dozens of people who also got super into it. Hell I've probably gifted six copies to friends over the years. This game has lasted so long for a reason, I don't want to sit here and complain about every detail, I just want to see them take their time, consult the community, and act like they care about the people that made this indie company a huge name. I don't feel like thats asking for a lot, but when they can't even tell us WHY they are doing these things and fighting us at every turn, then its hard to have faith in them
