We should place bets on what happens first.
BHVR does something about these players, BHVR does something about the posts, or the community changes for the better.
Probably the posts, really wouldn't surprise me if they over look the core issue and just do the quick fix.
@Krazzik said:
There's not -that- much BHVR can really do. There's always gonna be people who DC or kill themselves on hook because of certain killers/maps/perks/addons/they went down too fast. Likewise there's always gonna be people who are douches to other players after the game.
They could increase DC penalties, which I think they should do, but that won't stop many cases. They could also take abusive comments in endgame chat more seriously, though that wouldn't have done anything in this case either.
They can do the following:
1. Make anonymous mode make your profile not be clickable. I shouldn't have to deal with false reports and harassing messages. Players can use the ingame report if theres an issue in game.
2. Increase ban times like you said, though this never does much if it doesnt carry over a longer period of time.
3.linked to bans but mark players that DC/suicide early on in the system so those players will be matched together so people who do want to play never have to deal with it

Then do not click "play" on the survivor lobby. The amount of survivors that either suicide at the start of the match or outright dc on first down is one of the only things that still get to me in this game. What is the point of queing for a match if you're going to leave the millisecond something doesn't go to plan. It doesn't matter if its a killer you don't like, a perk you despise, if teammates don't drop their injured family members to immediately save, or if the killer camps. Play the game or not at all.
But these are the players we should balance for...

There isn't enough time to wait out dead hard, thats how fast gens go. Stop saying dead hard doesn't need a nerf. Can't even play killers like huntress cause her hatchets are so easy to dead hard, you need 3 hits to down a survivor. I don't care what you all say there just isn't time to wait out dead hard I need to go kick my gen cause thats apparently so damn important, more important than actual chases apparently.
Let's be honest the fact killers have to piggy back a survivor for multiple seconds is stupid in itself.
If I play killer I can only lunge 50% of the time because everyone has DH. It's also why tunneling is smarter, you get rid of OTR and DH as soon as they get off the hook, far easier than dealing with DH later on.
It's a problem perk, it takes away the basics of lunging and can be done on reaction for alot of killer powers. Theres a reason DH has been on my build for god knows how many years, no perk comes close to its value.
As usual though people will say bad players cant use it so it's okay to be so strong. Insta flashlights and instant gens was also defended so DH probably wont be touched again in forever

I disabled messages bc of that a long time ago. But after a year i enabled them again.
Now i just report them when they say something awful. Sony is really quick and i had even people ask me on their second account why they got banned, so they really suffer consequences.
There are messages like a simple ez, where you can do nothing. Well, sometimes people slip up later if you answer them, but you shouldnt make it a game, where you trick people into saying things, which get them banned.
Sadly xbox report system is rather lame ever since they changed it years ago, people use to get banned for breaking any of the rules but now it seems only the mega extreme ones do and even then it's not always. Things like racist, threats etc. Can be gotten away with at times so simple harassment and insults dont stand a chance.
They also have stupid sub categories now so even in the "unsporting" report which I dont use has sub categories like sexual assault etc. Like... why is that in unsporting..

Sometimes I try and send a message to say well played or to thank them for moronic behaviour, and it says that there profile is private and cannot be messaged. So within the confiines of the console there is a way to keep your profile locked down.
Yeah but if you do that it affects all games and socials, it's only on DBD I get this sort of problem and I shouldn't have to stop everything because of a single game.
I just need the devs to make anonymous mode make it so they cant click on me, game actions that are banable should be solved through DBD report system, they dont need access to my profile which gives the ability to harass

As a mostly solo player, I have to say the solo buffs are pretty great. I like being able to tell what's happening in the match, up to a point.
However, I do feel like seeing generator progress is maybe too much information. It kind of takes away from the air of mystery of the game and gives me information for free that I needed good game sense for before.
I'm not even necessarily saying that visible generator progress is overpowered, since swfs do get all that for free; I just think the visual indicator turns the game even more into gen rush simulator without the extra bit of uncertainty.
Does anyone else feel the same way?
I think it's all pointless tbh.
I'm a solo Q player, the games I win i would od won before and the games i loose i normally would of lost.
The HUD doesnt stop matchmaking screwing me over with people who never touch a gen. All this HUD did was make my easy wins (people all my skill) even easier to the point its boring

You can stop any communication but no can't prevent them from opening your profile up. I too want anonymous mode for Xbox, but apparently they can't make it work with whatever privacy settings that are messed with that mode being on. I did enjoy the week or two it worked though.
Yeah but all BHVR has to do is make it so you cant be clicked on in lobbies etc. They can do that as they dont even need you tag/name their at all and even in the endgame they have had it before where you couldn't.
I do miss those days

Sounds you're very unlucky to face toxic people like that. I mostly just get gg:s or thank's etc. Sometimes I do get complain but not often.
On DBD its so common, other Multiplayer games I get maybe 1 hate message over months but for whatever reason DBD is different. I legit got false reports for playing blight... (perkless and addonless)
While I usually ignore them it gets kinda hard when it's so common and not every day I'm up for being harassed at just for playing a game ya know?
I rarely get a gg, been months since my last 2 ggs. One because I let a survivor go and another because I met and old vet player (we end up on the same team or versing each other every few months)

Would be nice, I dont see why it isnt tbh but DBD is the only multiplayer game where I have to deal with these issues consistently so other multiplayer games dont have it. Not sure the point of anonymous mode if they can just click on you anyway..
Took a break for awhile to enjoy the deadspace remake but the first 2 days back just constant messages and more false reports

They planned an entire roadmap, they shared news, they promised and delivered. They made SoloQ much better now with the new HUD that they worked so hard on and they surprised us with Maurice skin and william birkin for blight. Why are you hating on them even though they deliver good patches?
Because they dont actually address issues and while they can do some nice changes they also do stupid ones or take years to put stuff in...
Some of the stuff they're adding in have been spoke about years prior and they can just be quality of life changes and not balance so they should be quick and easy.
My main hate towards them is how they lack understanding of their own game, huge maps, stupid tile setups and the SBMM which doesn't track skill at all for survivors.
When they make changes that actually benefit me and reward me then sure I'll be happy. But it's hard to have Hope's when they say stuff like "if you do a 5gen chase but you didnt escape was you really skillful?" Or keep making huge maps or maps filled with safe pallets so half the roster can do anything against a player with understanding...
These "solo Q buffs" haven't done anything, I win the games I'd normally win and I lose the games I normally would. Matchmaking is the issue not the HUD, no matter the HUD changes being paired with people who dont do anything or loop worse than a bot will always be a bad match. SBMM and matchmaking needs the change.

Behold. An entire minute of Jill #2 doing absolutely nothing. If I spend one more minute with teammates like this, I'm gonna start seeing colors only shrimp can as the rage boils over.
Also, as a bonus, Jill sent me this after the match (ended quickly after due to Eruption, PR and CoB in a 2v1)

Thanks Jill
Remember how I said (multiple times for years) that solo Q sucks not because of balance but because of people not doing anything and being inefficient?
I dunno maybe now people will realise they lose games not because of the killer stuff being OP constantly but more rather theres 1 or more teammates barely on a gen or never on a gen.
I would say this change is great as it will now show people that your team was useless and made you lose not the killer but I doubt it.
Been speaking for years how the survivors are the reason you lose most of the games and youd be surprised how often people arent actually doing stuff, there will always be excuses or people avoiding blame on the survivors side. Would be nice to get less backlash for supporting killers even as a survivor main but I doubt it, I'm sure people will just say "most survivors are bad and dont do much so we should balance so survivors in that team can still win" because God forbid we punish players that dont do the objectives.

Consider a year ago wiggling did nothing special I'd call this change while small a good and survivor sided thing.
The devs didn't have to improve the wiggling on greats but they did.
If you're expecting to wiggle off a bunch for free every time sounds like you want the game to be massively survivor sided. Not every change has to be massively impactful.

OTR doesn't work as anti-tunnel since it's circumvented by the killer just tunnelling harder.
And yes, people used to bring DS, DH, BT and UB, but only DS was there for anti-tunnel, with a tangential mention of UB for when killers just left the tunnel victim slugged. Now you need OTR AND DS in order to have -any- anti-tunnel.
OTR legit gives you a free extra health state off hook... that is anti tunnel.
It's also the reason why OTR is on all my builds, while DS use to be OTR does the same thing but better now as a stand alone perk.
People used UB with DS because it was a win win situation, people dont use DS as much so they use UB even less.
OTR is a great anti tunnel perk, and if you feel the need to run multiple stacked anti tunnel perks to get any value then I'd say that you're lacking in other areas of the game and should try and improve on those like leading a better chase, OTR alone provide you a second chance and lasts so long that if the hit isnt instantly then the killers wasting alot of time.
I feel you're expecting one perk to do all the work for you and make you immune... that's not what anti tunnel is meant to be. Anti tunnel is to help against tunneling, OTR does that alone by giving you a free health state just by being unhooked...
And like I said if you stack anti-tunnel perks now its actually stronger than before and therefore not really a nerf like my point was, only DS is a nerf if looked at singularly which is why OTR is used instead

That's if you equip three perks though. And DS by itself was comparable before the 40% stun duration cut.
DS should never have had its stun cut. It was tailored for one specific instance and required a LOT of cooperation from the killer to make it work.
Yeah but I'm saying the only perk actually nerfed was DS but it doesnt make it weak just OTR has completely replaced it and if anything the biggest nerf to DS is the deactivation on end game.
My point was only DS was nerfed while OTR replaced it, BT was made base, DH was just a change and not a nerf and if you stack them all (OTR,DS,DH not BT as that's base) it's now stronger than it use to be.
I'm not sure what your experience was before but perks like DS, DH, BT, UB etc. Was always so meta and I would see 3+ each every game so saying"thats 3 perks" doesnt mean much as survivors have always stacked them anyway except not BT is base so you get a free extra choice and OTR replaces DS so of anything survivors are the same with less perks used or if they choose to use more perks like all 3 it's been made stronger.
I still see alot of the same meta on survivor, main difference now is OTR has replaced DS but some still use it even with OTR and BT is now base so it's like survivors who ran bt before have 5 perks now meanwhile the killer meta has changed far more in perks being used, except Scourage pain which is still common but used far less than before

BorrowedTime, Deadhard were 2 difference heal states. Despite they use 2 perk slots.
New BT, DH, OTR can be disable with a single hit off hook. Despite they use 3 perk slots.
For the BT get buffed. But you may prefer another candy, than have your 1 candy get bigger in size.
DH is still dirty and punish killers who play fair, thats for sure.
BT is basically base though, I never used it before and now it's free with haste so it's kinda waste using the perk now, if everyone uses OTR (meta perk) you dont need BT and its void completely.
While you're right you cant use DH after being put in mend via OTR, that OTR lasts so long and gives you a free health state in that time you dont really need to use DH as well.
But if you use OTR, DS, DH none conflict with each other as when you go down to use DS your mending state is gone so all you need do is replace BT in the old meta with OTR and now you're even harder to tunnel than before so its actually a buff in that aspect of second chances.
I personally dont see the point in BT unless it's a comp game where you cant have repeat perks, but we cant use that because basic games dont follow that rule.

I am done with this. I dont care anymore. If u play at the daytime (right now), you have literally no chance of winning against these squads I get. They do 5 gens in under 5mins while Teabagging mid-chase and Bodyblocking. Always 2 guys at the gens, tunneling them asap, ignoring everything else. Prove Thyself, Commodious Toolbox, Boon Circle of Healing and the most broken sht I have even seen... new Deadhard.
Its time to move on to Nurse every fckin game, cant wait for this Midchapter and her 7-Blinks.
If I want to play something outside of Nurse, I should wait for the evening, when all the noobs come online.
Deadhard BROKEN as fck, 3rd health-state for everyone. In these lobbies, they almost never miss the timing. Adrenaline at the end = Free Escape, because the others have already 99% the gate till this chased survivor is there. Dont forget the Free Escape off hook with 10sec Basekit-BT and Bodyblocks, Reassurance to coordinate perfectly. Its absolutely impossible for killers to do sht then.
I can really understand why EVERYONE is tunneling hardcore and says, without Tunneling its absolutely impossible to win. I just need to watch "Comp.DBD" to see this one playstyle in every single game to get at least a 2K.
Now, with Basekit Unbreakable incoming, this will become absolute garbage. One "Killer-Patch 6.1.0", while survivors gets a buffed Deadhard, a 10sec Basekit-BT, still sick gen-speeds with their OP-Toolboxes, hell no. This game - for killers - has become way more worse than it was before.
"But Marik, the killrates have increased, so killers needs nerfs, not buffs". Yes, they increased because Noobs cannot handle Eruption etc., because they dont know when to "let the gen go". In my lobbies, you have that little things called Voice-Call: "Im going down, let go". Boom!
Tunneling, Camping, Tunneling, Camping, NOED. Thats it nowadays. You did a splendid job BHVR, but unfortunately, BOTH Sides are pissed now. But hey, soon even Solo-Survivors, which granted killers better stats, will become more efficient with your Icon-System. While all that happens, most of the killers are totally useless against these squads I encounter. I have 2.200 hours in this game, why the hell do I get guys with 9.000 hours, 6.000 hours, playing like Comp.-Teams, tunneling Gens asap.
Cant wait for that Basekit Unbreabakle. "But think about the new players and the casuels u would like to say?"
I dont go against these survivors, so why should I care?
Hex-Builds are garbage, because the totems are in front of a roof, so everybody can see them. Oh dont forget that awesome Totem in Shack everyone literally spawns at it.
You wonder why killers bring 3 Gen-Regression-Perks every single match. I will lift the secret: "BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO!" We dont have anything left besides Pain Resonance and the Call of Brine/Eruption-Combo. Nothing. Playing without Gen-Regression? Sure, I can do that, but I know the outcome by default.
@Survivors: Dont blame the killer for tunneling every game. This game is created to do it. Tunnel one out before the 4th gen is done. Tunnel the 2nd out before the exit gates are opened. Use the Altruism survivors love to do to grab someone off the hook and go for the last person. Thats the way. Mixing hooks? Dont tunnel? Yea, if u play against noobs who fail skillchecks, yes. Besides that, mixe them if u want to lose.
Hell, give us a fckin break, please!!!
Matchmaking has seemed very odd to me personally over the past few days since iv been playing again So maybe that's what you're experiencing?
Because if its happening to everyone else as well you'll have people like me who youd class as mega sweaty, versing killers we just shouldn't be versing and am having easy games. Just a thought and my experience as survivor recently but that may just be me.
Though survivor has always been easy and the stronger role imo
-
@Rovend said:
You do understand that for most situations you described here there is an equal one from the survivor side.
Like most survivors would like to try a non-genrush build if it weren't because they are usually facing against the Eruption/Brine/Pain res combo and they are being slowdown to oblivion.
That's funny i dont use gen rush build and apparently I escape far more than most of the forums by how they act.
Survivors dont need faster gens if people are efficient on them, but alot of the time people arent or struggle to loop the many safe tiles in the game.
If you truly want to win more as survivor learn how to loop against each killer and constantly push gens, if everyone does that its pretty easy
-
Curious what second chance perk was nerfed?
DH doesnt feel like a nerf at all to me but more of a change as it's still insanely strong and on all my builds.
I guess you could say DS? But they as long as the killer isnt nurse, blight etc. You can usually make it to a tile and still does its job but that's definitely nerfed. But OTR exists so just use that over DS if needs be and you avoided a nerf technically.
I dont think killers running gen defense is a surprise though, should be very clear as to why they do it for any player with good game understanding but maybe that's just me. recently I feel I'm being mismatched in games as killers arent running stacked slowdowns or playing to the normal skill I expect and games are just flying by

That's odd.
I know that they've been doing some fiddling behind the scenes in terms of when you take a break, your MMR is made more volatile so if you come back and lose it'll drop really fast.
Yeah I honestly have no idea what's going on, I'd say my teams are the same as usual with some okay and some stupid but no game has felt challenging like normal.
I thought maybe my mmr has gone down a little since not playing (maybe they added it while I was away) but after back to back escapes through the gates I'm not seeing any increase.
Only didnt play for nearly a month as I moved location for holiday (still uk) and it's so different
-
How about you dont lock incentives behind a perk... means you're forced to run it and likely have a weaker build just because of it?
Base incentives would work far better than ones behind a perk or just make the game more balanced so a killer can go after different people every time and not lose?

Gen rush is not happening because anti-tunneling perks were nerfed and resulted in less chases.
I'm not so sure about that. Both the anti-tunnel nerf and the gen timer increase happened in the same patch, so we can't just look at stats and conclusively state it was one or the other, but I think survivors would be more keen on arming themselves against tunnelling through perks that punish it, if they still could, than on genrushing.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3313854#Comment_3313854
Killers arent able to win equal matched players without such tactics and then even stacked slowdown is needed if you're playing anything but the top killer on a decent map..
That's not the whole of it though. What a killer can or cannot win is also in part dependent on the skill of the player. People like to point at professional, tournament level play, but disregard that this does not represent 99% of the game.
Additionally, the idea that you can't win against equally skilled survivors has a self-reporting issue: How do you determine your own skill? How do you know the survivors you are going up against are actually of your skill level? Especially when tunnelling or camping come into play as methods to bolster your MMR as a result of getting more kills, how do you know that you wouldn't be able to handle survivors of your skill level if you let MMR settle without tunnelling?
And it's not just that, either. My first game as killer when I picked the game back up, I committed to an absolutely atrocious chase where I spent over a minute on a single loop, trying to get the hang of Pinhead's power again. Once I got the down, I could've easily stated that, because the survivors got so many gens done on that chase, I -have- to tunnel. But that disregards that the reason I am in a losing position is because of my own incompetence, not because the game is unfairly balanced.
Tunnelling just muddies the water when it comes to balancing and skill assessment.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3313877#Comment_3313877
Is that not exactly the same thing as rewarding killers for not tunnelling?
Not quite. I wouldn't call it a 'reward' to be spared when a new problem is created. But it is kind of necessary to create problems for tunnelling in order to dissuade it, because even if 12-hooking is/were to be as viable as tunnelling, tunnelling will likely be easier, and will still be on the table as an option to bully people.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3313980#Comment_3313980
Someone suggested at one point that Ruin self-disabling when a survivor dies is kind of a starting point. Maybe some of the more meta perks should be changed to have variable degrees of effect based on how many survivors are in the game. Some could be bumped up to be stronger if there's four survivors, while weakening when there's three or fewer.
That'd be a pretty complex overhaul though.
Another option that comes to mind is an older idea I had for a hypothetical 'post-camp/tunnel' DBD, which is where the co-op action penalty gets reversed. IE: You work slower when alone, but faster when together. If this effect were to weaken as survivors are eliminated, that could incentivise survivors to stick together early on, making it easier for the killer to put out pressure, but then as survivors die, that benefit would dissipate.
Okay I cant beat people my own skill, while saying all killers cant beat their own skill is probably a lie at the lower mmr/skill level.
I have never understood why people find it so hard to judge skill? I feel that's more due to the very casual base players that only want to look at one stat and that just doesnt work especially for DBD. While other games you can kinda go of K/D or something DBD isnt like that, though even in games like halo for example k/D isnt the only show of skill you have map control, rotations, grouping, ditching etc. Etc. Which are all different levels of skill and DBD is the same you cant just look at one thing like most do
As someone who does play games at a high level and actually does judge skill of many different aspects and playing DBD since its release I have a vast knowledge of the game and able to judge what skillful is.
So being able to judge skill you can soon see if you win because the other side was weaker etc. Especially with the maps designs and half the roster making alot of tiles safe or so time wasting the killer would lose. Luckily SBMM isnt very good and I dont get a full team of my skill level or gens would fly and the killer wouldn't get many hooks.
Most of the time the survivors are the ones having to make the mistakes and alot of the roster doesnt have the control. It's one reason I dont do swf anymore, far too easy if everyone is my skill and if I get a group that isnt it massively ruins the matchmaking.
And if you can do awful chases that take ages to get a down and you can even admit that then you shouldn't win, if you did those survivors was bad and inefficient and therefore You should win.
But the whole you cant beat your own skill is true if you dont run gen defense or tunnel so yes that part is still true. Depending on your skill and how much gen defense and how "mean" you want to play

No, this isn't a 'if you don't like it git out' thread (although, yeah, the Eruption threads are getting up my snout right now).
I'm curious why you - be it a new or a veteran player, are still playing this game?
For me:
- It's incredibly effective at waking me up in the morning. This game makes me feel...a lot of things, but 'sleepy' isn't one of them. Mrs. Lost refers to my early morning DbD as my 'daily rage coffee'. Which is apt.
- A good match of DbD is exhilarating, win or lose.
- The hope that one day they'll give me my giant spoopy spider killer and I can be happy forever.
- Right now, I'm trying to really get better at survivor, and while some of the killers have been grating my damn cheese as of late, I am enjoying the feeling of improvement.
- Sometimes, this game has wonderful, memorable little narratives that emerge in games.
- For example, my last match of the night had a Clown (on Haddonfield) who'd evidently just discovered that...thing that Clown can do that might be an exploit, but it allows them to completely negate Endurance. He tunneled out the Sheva immediately, and with us trying to save her had literally all of us on the ground, no gens done when he did his final hook. David was doing an adept, and so picked himself up - then I picked up the Lisa, who blinded him with a cracker and we all got away. Somehow - we all looped like machines, used every pallet and every vault we had, and we were at 0 gens with 2 of us still alive. I ended up sacrificing myself to let David get his Adept, and postgame was actually really wholesome. A bit of a pisser that Sheva had brought streamers, but eh. Still a game that I'll always remember when I think of DbD.
Because it's fun, simple and just easy going tbh. (This is my survivor opinion as I dont really enjoy killer with how badly its balanced if I verse my skill but we wont dwell on that for this post)
DBD is fun, regardless of what people say it is. Sure you can have bad games and even awful days on it but you can any game but DBD is simple and honestly not that skillful as survivor as all you do is run around or hold a button and that sure beats the effort other games require such as halo, overwatch etc. Especially when most games force SBMM now so they become less fun having to sweat all game every game (how killer can feel more often than not as I'm not lucky enough to get chill players at off peak hours)
I'm also a great horror fan, while DBD isnt scary it still has the horror style and I play all games that do. Evil dead was a great game till they buffed survivors too much (may have changed now, but I could 1v1 the demon so that with little content gets boring after awhile) but I only just started play again after a month due to other games, I'll stop again when Deadspace, res 4 etc. Come out

The issue is that the reward for not tunneling would have to be MASSIVE in order to stop people from tunneling. Killing someone off ASAP is so so so strong that I don't think there's an incentive that could convince me not to try.
I think a better thing to try is to make 3v1's less Killer favored and make 4v1's less Survivor-favored.
Well if you reward those that dont and punish those that do, together those changes will make a huge impact. Alone it wouldn't work as either way would either not be enough or too much like you said.
There has been many things in the game which could be changed or did encourage keeping 4 alive. Alot of powers can simply be made better in the 4v1 and slightly weaker as you take people out but that's alot of work on BHVRs part and I dont see them doing that, afterall they still dont even understand map design so just easier for a little reward and punishment simultaneously
-
Rather a garden of joy rework first, nasty map.
But I could see sebastian as a survivor, though not sure on killer.. probably safehead dude with teleporting and something else
-
The line "killers change their strat to tunneling to improve the chances of winning" highlights the issues well enough.
Killers arent able to win equal matched players without such tactics and then even stacked slowdown is needed if you're playing anything but the top killer on a decent map..
I'm not sure why people dont see how certain changes or balances force certain playstyles. Ever since tunneling has been a thing iv been saying you need to reward and encourage players that dont alongside slightly punishing those that do as atm tunneling can often be more beneficial for the killer.
As for the perk changes OTR will replace DS simply because is so much stronger and before the DS nerf the OTR change made it's way to meta just because of it's pure strength as its not just good for a single use.
The meta shake up change killer more imo, while it's still gen defense (needed) its different. Only thing changed on survivor is DS for OTR and base BT so you kinda get a 5th perk now.
I'm not sure what your post is actually aiming for though? DS basekit? Probably be abit much now but I have always said DS could be basekit if the killer got some love to allow them to go for chases over kills, base corrupt and a reward for actually hooking someone new would be a start
-
If I'm not mistaken call of brine etc. Are just like ruin except the killer has to kick the gen? It plays out the exact same, if he chases you you get more distance as he had to kick it and if he doesnt chase you can just go back on it?
And eruption requires a down so he has to chase someone... infact they have to kick a gen, chase and down to even get any value at all which is actually worse for the killer because he needs downs to get value unlike ruin.
Killers will always need gen defense to verse slightly good or efficient survivor teams it's just how it is and you cant get mad at them for it, if anything eruption punishes bad survivor teams more as they will go down faster than the better teams.
I personally just dont like the incapacitated effect, rather more regression just so I can keep doing stuff at least but I'm also not gonna moan about stuff which is needed verse any form of decent team.
Besides gen regression etc. Usually means longer games so more chases and more to do etc. Games that end in 4mins because my team did gens and the killer had no defense are boring... I'd actually like to have multiple chases or do multiple actions in a trial. And often the games I lose iant because of stacked perks but because of bad teammates or teammates far weaker than the killer so I expect the loss at that point.

I'll keep that in mind ! I have literally 0 object permanence though so I was using Saboteur more for the aura than anything else, I had a yellow toolbox with sabo speed for the actual deed. =)
I've never used DH but from what I'm hearing it might be a little too precise and ping dependant for me to use consistently... I'll definitely think about it ! For now I don't even have room in my builds for exhaustion, haha. I'll see what I can part with !
Thanks for the advices ! =D
Oh I see you're using sabo to see hook locations and which ones are Scourages, that's fair and a good use for the perk just a shame the sabo speed itself is so bad but there are times I completely over look a hook lol
I dont have too much issue with DH tbh, only time iv had trouble is on 120ms which shouldn't really happen. Just harder to use compared to the old.
And that's okay I'm always happy to help or give advice to help do certain things :) currently I'm messing around with firecrackers since the Christmas event Bloodwebs give so many haha

Hi EntitySpawn !
I believe few weeks back we chatted about flashlight changes and you mentioned preferring sabo plays nowadays.
I've tried Breakout/Saboteur this afternoon, and though I'm still not a confident enough survivor that it doesn't essentially mean a trade, it was still very satisfying when it worked out to spare death hook teammates.
Thanks for the suggestion, have merry winter holidays !
Oh neat! I personally dont use perks to do with it as I find them very meh, I'm pretty sure saboteur is the slowest way to sabo a hook other than the one toolbox?
I personally just use a brown toolbox and try keep track of hook locations and which ones that may want to go for, obviously more situational than what you're trying but definitely satisfying and the killers hate you lol.
I'm glad you're having fun with something else though! Maybe you can try DH so so can sabo the hook and DH to get away for free? Need a pretty fast sabo toolbox though so keep that in mind.
Nice to see another hook sabo survivor! Rarely see it so go you!
And thankyou Hope you have a merry holidays yourself! :)

It's not so much a bad thing to say people need to improve, but within reason. There are areas of the game which can only be improved by change to how the game works.
Other changes are very dependent on luck. E.g I've been trying to get better at looping in recent weeks and I have got a bit better - but it's very dependent on which killer is there and what perks they have. Some killers are great at guessing what you'll do to mind game them and countering it, some killers bring perks that make looping harder than it already is given the killer is naturally faster anyway and gets faster the more they chase with blood lust. Other than that, what is there to actually be able to get better at?
You cannot get better at countering tunneling unless your team is heavily dedicated - again that depends on your team and even then that isn't always successful. You can't get better at countering camping because if a killer wants to camp they will. You can go off and do gens, but that depends on your hooked team mate not suiciding and giving you the time to do it. It's also not a viable counter to camping because the natural successful solution is to save your teammate. Ignoring them and letting 'x' amount of them die so 2 or 1 of you can escape doesn't feel rewarding. Similarly, you can't get better at doing gens because it's so straight forward and if a killer brings 350+ regression it's a nightmare.
My other gripe this attitude is it mainly seems to come from one side more than the other.
Okay so I'll go through your comment and explain why it doesnt fit my post. Remember my post is about encouraging people to get better learn to counter instead of just nerfing stuff so with that in mind
1. Theres plenty to learn, so many different tiles on different maps which can all be played differently which each separate killer.
2. If a killer is good at baits or mindgames/making reads then surely that is completely fine, they outplayed you and therefore this just backs up not needing to be nerfed but to improve your own baits etc.
3. If killers are bringing perks to help them in loops why aren't you? Someone bringing perks to help them is the point of perks and you should be doing the same and thay will improve your own chases and it also improves the killers
4. If a killer has to bloodlust constantly it should be an easy win. Even though there are quite a few pallets which completely safe to BL3 so even that wont do anything. If you're losing to a killer constantly BL then your team isnt doing gens and shouldnt win
5. Stuff shouldn't be nerfed because someone may give up or DC. Fact is this is a big issue people will just DC and give up when it's not going their way and if you nerf stuff to please them then you'll always have them doing it and they will never learn and the game will be a mess.
Camping and tunneling can suck, no doubt. I'm a survivor main and some games I am the killers only goal (no idea why) but there is stuff you can do and it's not just about you, sure you may die but your whole team shouldn't especially when you can run anti-tunnel perks. Another big issue is people will unhook you unsafely making the tunnel easier so of course the killer will.
If you want to address tunneling/camping you need to reward those that dont but the game doesnt do that if anything if can reward you more for actually doing those actions as it can help the killer win. So reward those that dont, encourage and balance so people dont need to and then punish those who do alongside the rewards. Just negatives dont work.

I just listed several that don't. Because you don't have any teammates in those games.
Indeed, the DbD community is incredibly entitled. Especially Survivors who think they're entitled to prolong the match and torment the Killer for as long as they like.
Just stand in the corner, they will get bored. Its rare you will get a 4man hold you hostage for ages when they cant do anything and even if you do run into that massively rare situation you can afford that DC as it's the only reasonable time to DC and you wont run into that enough to get a ban penalties.
Like I said though theres still plenty you can do besides instantly giving up and going AFK in the corner, such as learning new things etc.
And yeah survivors are very entitled, BHVR and the community have kinda encouraged that but as a survivor main myself I can assure you it's not fun for me either to have people entitled and throw games instantly over stupid situations.
But fact is if there was no DC penalties for killer then loads of killers would instantly DC over silly stuff and that's just bad to have, it's not fun having DCs or people give up as either side.
No one gets free passes, it's about being a good sport and having manners and ita not like you'll get held hostage often at all
-
All multiplayer games have a DC penalty...
DBD definitely needs it because this community is so more entitled it's stupid. Only game I can play and people will just DC over stupid stuff.
If you massively wanna give up so bad as killer go stand in a corner and face the wall, though I'm not quite sure why people want to give up as either side so easy... you can learn alot in from those matches even if it's just to practice something different/new.
Multiplayer games need DC penalties, even in asymmetrical ones.

I "told" people that Sadako was bs and she was top tier but no one listened and i got heavily critisized for having her at top 8 at A+ on my tier list. This was 4 months ago!
Now fairly recently the kill rate data was released and what do you know? Sadako had top 3 kills overall! Yeah because i told people i didnt lose with Sadako much at all and i constantly 4k with her. People either ignored this or went on about the same old tired line;
"You went against low mmr bla bla bla lol! (You cant win with this community and its mentality is rigid!)
Sadako is bs end of story like i've been saying for the past several months! You "have" to do the tv's eventually and your gaining condemened during the match and depending on her add-ons this is accelerated through interactions.
She has a walking undetectable and demanifesting is better than Wraiths! She can teleport to tv's with no cool down but people thought this killer was weak and bottom 3 lmao!
This is why i think for myself and dont listen to people!
Top 8... and still A+ what on earth tier list are you using?
While I dont think shes the worst shes definitely not great, definitely an easy killer to beat if the survivors know how to play. Even the condemned strat doesnt work on good survivors.
Shes the same as alot of killers, requires weaker survivors or "casuals". But to me shes an easy W, but this is why opinions exist I dont think wraith, billy, slinger etc. Needed nerfs but others did...
-
Yeah I'd rather more regression than incapacitated tbh. Only thing I actually dislike tbh as I physically cant do much sometimes and its abit boring. Wouldn't be so bad if it was just gens but sadly it's not.
Though I doubt some players even notice, some people really do nothing some games and just walk around and crouch without eruption forcing it lol
-
Most things are entitlement, just the level of entitlement changes depending on what people are saying.
I think it's fair everyone as humans have some entitlement in them but it's just more of a matter how they go about it.
As for the changing name thing you have to except being targeted, yes it sucks but you changed your name to let people know you're doing it. Some may help, others may not but it is entitled to expect just the good and it doesnt work that way.
I get it's not fun, hell I'm targeted alot just for simply playing the game and its annoying seeing a bubba ignore all the moving snowmen near me and just hard tunnel me instead so I do get your frustration there.
End of the day though people can play how they want, with what they want and it's never fair to expect your opponent to play a certain way for you when it doesnt happen the other way around.
Tunneling and camping isnt the most fun sure, neither is stacked gen defense but it fixes alot of base game issues from bad matchmaking, imbalances at certain levels etc. And if you look at it fairly from the killers POV you should be able to understand why they do it and not really be mad at them as it is just a game afterall and despite what people say most people like to win and will try to win.
In a perfect world loops and naps would be fair, killers wouldn't need to run gen defense or use unfun tactics to try win while survivors get matched properly, multiple chases etc. But it will never happen because everyone has different opinions, thoughts and feelings about everything in the game and to say your opinion etc. Is better or has more value is the entitlement part.
I disagree with alot of things people say, I just explain my points and experiences and leave it there. No point attacking people or moaning about how they play but for some reason DBD is a very toxic and entitled community

I consider myself a decent survivor and I'm not even close to 70%. Do you stream? Maybe I could learn a few things... Lol
Depends how picky you want to be and your skill.
Your mmr will matter, the higher mmr you are the better chances of a team that does gens and chases (doesnt mean you will but it's a better chance, you'll still get stupid as hell games though because matchmaking sucks)
Time of day will matter, for example best times for me to play is 6am-12 uk. As it gets later games get worse. This is my personal experience for my server, mmr etc. (Once again no guarantee, some days i can escape most games, others loose most)
Gens, gens, gens. Honestly cant tell you how often people will get a loss just because they arent efficient.
Game awareness and general skill will carry you so much, and obviously dont do stupid things that can throw/snowball cant really go into detail or I'd be typing for days lol.
Lobby dodge, something I actually will do if I'm not feeling up to putting up with usual DBD rubbish. I can soon tell who will be closer to my skill than others, if I see a very low playtime, lack of achievements or even no prestige on characters been out years likely mismatched. Also backfill is a thing, if others back out its safer to do the same, take note of certain players (good and bad) you may run into them more than you think
Meta perks, if the killers running meta to win why arent you?
Some tips I guess... still massively luck based, some games are impossible to carry even if you are a god or on the most survivor sided maps.
-
I win more than I lose, though that would be higher if I ignored every game that had a DC or someone give up early for a stupid reason.
Matchmaking also just sucks, I'm sorry but I still get players that have no idea how to play in the slightest yet I'm a vet and highly skilled (even win alot so my mmr should be high) but its impossible to carry a team of very bad players (as it should be but definitely ruins the amount of wins)
It's also worth noting EVEN IF YOU DIE other may escape, it's a team game afterall so you may die but that dont mean others didnt "win" for you so to speak. Best way to view tunneling, you may die but you're doing it for your teams win

DBD is a casual game at its core, if the gameplay stopped being enjoyable to the casual audience the game would suffer.
Just make sure the things that are super broken in top levels of play is handled, and we're good. Like maxed out items/Nurse/Blight, stacked powerful regression.
Notice how everything you list is on the killer side and not the survivors side... that's my point, it's always a killer issue and it's always taken to the most extreme situations so the already weak gets made weaker and it forces imbalanced and people to play in awful ways such as camping and tunneling.
As much as people call DBD casual it's not, people still just want to win. If it was as casual as people made out they wouldn't moan constantly, rage, be toxic etc. Which can be seen most games in DBD, at thos point it's just an excuse alot use to try validate their opinions.
There may be casual players, for both sides but that doesnt mean balance for bad players or act like everyone is casual when it clearly isnt that case
-

The possibility that killer players could be extremely bad and carried by their perks doesn't cross your mind at all right?
It's always just the survivors. "Just gold L click!"
Damn you're right, killer got carried by those perks. Totally didnt fail to get a kill or many hooks at all....
This isnt as uncommon as people like to believe and while a 4man escape (solo q) may be rare (as it should) many people can escape and bad killers arent carried by perks.
Maybe, just maybe theres other factors that make the survivors loose... like you know, the survivors. Not everything is on the killer.
But let me guess that's killers just garbage, those perks always carry bad killers but he must be extra bad etc. Well no, this blight knew how to slide ans curve just fine and easily better than an "average/casual" so why wasnt he carried? Because all survivors could play and it wasnt a mismatched game due to bad SBMM or matchmaking in general

You're not quite getting what I mean, balancing for bad players doesn't mean making the game a casual party game (which was why I put that closing note on the post) it means balancing in a way that is intuitive for the inexperienced. Part of why killer does so much better at low level than survivor is because their objective and effective strategies are very simple and straightforward: chase people, down them, get them on a hook, then return to said hook if youre not in another chase when they get saved. Obviously this changes as the opposition improves, but right off the bat, its very effective.
With survivors many want to play immersive right off the bat, and that doesnt always go away with experience. Its objectively inefficient and ignores the power dynamic that occurs in any given match, so they are actively sandbagging themselves and their team by doing so. The smart play is to utilize your time as efficiently as you can, as it takes advantage of the numbers game. Therefore the strongest way to play is the least intuitive one, it doesn't lend itself to natural discovery.
Balancing for low level play would be addressing that natural response. It wouldn't mean removing all the skill from the game, but rather encouraging players to naturally gravitate toward efficient play, while making efficient play ebb and flow with the dynamics of the match, almost like a form of rubber banding if you will. As it is the dynamic is very harsh, where survivor start extremely strong (if they can take advantage of it) while killers have the inverse: They start generally weak and get stronger as people die and pallets get used up, but become much stronger. The other part of said suggestion is to address that dynamic so that it is less dramatic in either direction, so that a good start for either side doesn't determine a disproportionate portion of the rest of the match.
When people hear balancing for low level or casual, they always tend to assume it means removing skill from the game, but the two don't have to be mutually exclusive. The game just needs to do a better job nudging people in the right direction, while limiting how far agency denial can go.
Also to add to this, it means to specifically avoid things that can be taken advantage of in the process. Things that require skill don't need to be lumped into that category, and in fact specifically shouldn't but rather things that don't take skill need to be reeled in. This includes camping, tunneling, god pallets/loops, gen rushing, etc. The only things that should ideally be overtly strong in a game balanced for low level play should be things that are difficult to achieve/acquire, as they allow a skill ceiling for growth.
But people generally want no competition and as soon as something requires some effort people want nerfs. A great example is Scourage pain, people still want it nerfed when all they have to do is let go before the hook (as soon as you see the aura) not difficult but want it to be nerfed.
I just dont want things nerfed or things buffed because people dont understand how to actually do/use said thing.
I'm all for encouraging skillful stuff and more fun strategies etc. But people dont seem to understand if you nerf killers gen defense for example killer will tunnel/camp more.
I truly believe SBMM is a bigger problem than people seem to realise, I see so often people blame perks, killers etc. When they cant see their own or their teams mistakes and that's an issue because the balance isnt that bad but it can look worse due to a bad SBMM matching people incorrectly.
I cant tell you how many games iv lost because of my teams actions, whether that's someone giving up, not doing gens, doing silly plays/memes etc. But I cant blame the killer for in those games even if they run 4x slowdowns
I give the same example as it's so spot on, if versed the same player using the same killer and build on exactly the same map twice, one team he got 2 hooks through the time we did 5 gens yet on the other game he got a 4k with lots of hooks and we did about 2gens. This is purely because of bad matchmaking putting people in games they shouldn't of been in. Cant say it's due to the killer but sadly alot do
-
@Eelanos said:
This is why people keep saying not to balance for the 1%.
Good players will be good regardless of how you balance the game. They'll find another thing to exploit and stick to it even if it takes them weeks to master.
Average players, which compose most of the player base, don't do this. They have lives and other interest. There's varying degrees of effort they can put, but for the vast majority, if it takes them intensive training on an isolated environment (custom games or bots or any training mode), they're not gonna master it probably ever.
You have to balance around the average player. If you don't and balance around the most competitive players, you alienate the biggest chunk of your player base and most of them leave, which raises the barrier of entry dramatically for any new player as there's no player of equal skill to match them with.
You keep thinking things should be balanced around top play, but when you only face SWF with thousands of hours with the top items and perks even when you play a new killer for the first time, that's when you regret thinking that even if you don't realize. It's literally what happened with The Knight.
Not once have I said top play, even in any reply iv not said balance for the top.
I'm simply stating to balance for people that know how to play, doesnt need to be amazing but you should balance for people that understand perks, killer powers and loops. Dont need to be the best loopers obviously but if they cant loop at all or even know how killer powers work then they shouldn't be balanced around.
The average player knows how to loop, do gens and understand how powers work so they would know how to play. Anything less than that and you're making the game massively unbalanced the higher you go. You cant expect to win if you have no idea how to the basics to an okay level
Edit: the knight is garbage in all aspects for both sides, the knight was made for bad players (all the info you get) while trying to make an AI antiloop that can actually be used, it's just bad design

Quite often I lack altruism as everyone else goes for saves, I have to do gens and chases lol
As for solo Q it's nottoo bad when you donr have people give up or not do gens, that's a matchmaking issue though. Legit my last game I had 2 aces just moon walking all game never touched a gen but I cant expect to win that with idiots that think they're cool

the point of the perk is to punish you for gen-tapping. there is no cooldown to gen-tapping, so putting cooldown for killer to punish gen-tapping makes no sense.
That's actually not true, we can still gen tap and hit the skill check while looping lol

You can have fun and get alot of points, but still lose most of the matches, over and over again.
So no, whenever i hear "fun" in DBD, what it really means is TO WIN. And sadly, most of the times AS EASY AS POSSIBLE (that goes for both sides).
I like to win, I'm not someone who will lie about that it's why I also try to play my best because why should I win of I didnt try? Doesnt seemed earned to me
I also understand both sides so I understand why people play a certain way especially when I can play both roles at the same level.
This is where alot of people go wrong, they want to win but not try as hard as their opponent. They play one role or play one at a far lower level and quite commonly people cant identify why they win/loose other than x is OP.
Just my last match someone was complaining about a killers perks and we lost at 1 gen left bit they completely ignore the fact we had a teammate hiding for the majority of the match not doing anything. That one player had 7kpoints to everyone else on 20k+ yet it was still the killers "fault"

Easy has two definitions: who has the easier chance to win and who has a harder role to learn. That's why people are talking about skill caps and floors. Your post is about why can't survivors just get better, which means we need to get into how hard it is too learn.
Killer has a much easier role to learn. It takes much longer to become an okay survivor than it does to become an okay killer. A really quick tutorial is all you need to play killer.
Or to put another way, I have rarely gone against a killer I thought was actively bad. Sometimes at the end of a game I've even seen that the killer is pretty clearly a new player and they did okay. I've hit a lot of survivors who were at a complete loss and made horrific strategy decisions (and I'm not even discussing intentional suicides).
Yeah but hold a button doing a gen isnt difficult nor are the base "skill checks" and if you're on about chases the killer has exactly the same process of learning will this power work here, will they mindgame, drop the pallet etc.
Both sides have to learn the chase, while one is following both have to learn tiles and loops and most loops are generic ones you can see over meaning all you have to do is run around which once again isnt hard.
If you're then talking about killers mindgame, moon walking etc. Then the survivor should also be aware of that, if they're aren't they're a lower level than the killer and therefore the killer should win if it based of skill as the killer has more knowledge than that particular survivor.
And also at the higher level alot of the killers fall into 50/50 chance mindgame or the survivor messing up, making it easier for the survivors will make that even worse

Okay, but you can just keep applying it on the same gen over and over with no cooldown.
Doesn't that seem like it could be an issue for people who can't hit that?
Like, at least give it a cooldown. Hell, make it harder to hit and buff the regression to 100% but make it not stack with CoB.
That can be said about most perks in the game on both sides though, cooldowns just make the perks even more niche and not used hence why alot of cooldown perks arent used.
I'm confused you dont like the skill check but want to make it harder and regression faster but stop a combo? Even with the combo it's still slower than 1 survivor means it's still a lose in war of attrition just makes it longer.
Overcharge is fine it really doesnt need a nerf at all tbh, alot of perks needs buffs to make them better not nerf ones that are already niche and worthless at a higher level
-
@Pulsar said:

The skill check.
It's smaller than DS and can spawn at the 4'oclock position. It also regresses 15% of the gen if you miss.
It's hard for me to hit consistently and you still sometimes get cucked by bad RNG, even if your on it.
But that's the point of the perk? If it was easy to hit for everyone it may as well get deleted.
Didnt know it was 15% though, dont see it tbh and I'm okay at hitting skillchecks (unless its doctor with unnerving and cal, which makes them spawn anywhere on the screen and spin mega fast lol)
But killers are meant to get value from the perk, its pretty niche in reliability and would become void if you kept winning with it as youd go against people who can handle it. Hell iv used impossible skillcheck builds and had people not fail a single skillcheck (worst feeling)
