You aren't intended to win every game. The goal of the system, if it matches you properly, is to make you win roughly half of the time. You go up against even people, maybe you lose. Then you go down, face people worse and win, going back up.
The "problem" is that you can't just win every game all the time steamrolling everyone anymore. But hey, if having to lose as often as you win isn't fun, I'm sure you could play the little bit mode and just curb stomp the AI's. But I guess that doesn't give the same rush as burning ants with a magnifying glass does, huh?
Just because I managed to kill one survivor during the game and have option to camp second when all gens are done, doesn't make this game "balanced".
It's kinda stupid to have goal for 2k. It's annoying af to play when you know that it just doesn't matter what you do and survivors have free escape tiket. Then it's not really about contest of skill.
Not talking about how stressful it is.

Unfortunately it's not even as simple as just guaranteeing a hook spawn nearby since even if you do that you could kill one survivor there but then you can't do anything if a second survivor decides to do it.
I would camp the ######### out of him.

What do flashlights do to the artist?
You can destroy her crows.
I am not sure how good it will be, but it is a thing. It will probably not be Wraith level of annoying tho, but over low loops, you will just not be able to setup multi crows.

True, I would like to try that out. It would be better than leaving him the way he currently is.
It wouldn't be enough reason for me to start playing him tho, but he would be better for sure.

I'd easily go back to him again if he had a gun with infinite range like Huntress. I want to go on top of Thompson House and snipe everyone on that cornfield.
Oh my...
I don't care that I am not able to down them, but just that feeling would be worth it :D
His projectile would need to get way faster tho, it's quite slow.
-
ADS nerf might be fine, but they would have to make him hit-scan (0 travel time), that way it's actually about your aim.
Right now even potato can react to it and you are forced to zone, which is boring.
-
Huntress for sure.
Every time I see Huntress I wonder if it could be Deathslinger...

I agree that the ADS delay is a little TOO much, it feels disjointed moving in and out. I honestly feel if they lessen it just a fraction on both sides that it would reach a nice medium, especially with the 'shot ready' ring.
I would let him quick-scope, but keep nerf to fake ADS, so Deathslinger is forced to commit on his shots.
It was possible to react to it even before, because of travel time and super small hitbox, but most Deathslingers would just fake it and they didn't really fix that. They fix it only because noone can be bothered to play him anymore. It's just not fun.

I agree, CoH disrupts Slinger a lot currently. Not every Slinger used Monitor before as well and it was simply a nice perk on him since it enhanced what the game made him into: a stealthy ranged hunter. Now in order to play as he is intended, a specific perk is needed. It was a completely unneeded change.
The balance team has the problem of changing more than is needed. The best example I can give is when they overnerfed Freddy. Freddy's action penalty add-ons were problematic, but now he is left with a lackluster power and add-ons that do nothing to enhance his gameplay. And I still prefer og Freddy so both my mains being nerfed sucks.
I personally think the ads changes were okay as it gives survivors some counterplay (although the values could be reduced a bit) and it is more of a muscle memory thing to learn, but they did not give him much to compensate for the change. I think he should keep his 24m terror radius, move at 4.0m/s when aiming, change his ads movement speed addons into spear speed add-ons, and increase the values of his add-ons as they do not do a whole lot currently.
I read somewhere in another discussion that he should move at 115% when he has not reloaded. An interesting idea, but I think that would be more of an add-on change idea.
I mean, it wouldn't really be broken in any way if he was just always 115%. He has limited range and can't down over pallets. That's already less than Plague, PH.
-
@Remedicist said:
For me personally: I find him better to play around loops by pre-aiming, I can choose to give deep wound to someone and go after another to waste some of their time, I can hit shots that I can't normally hit with Huntress, and most of all I find his gun more fun to play with.
As you said though, since his basekit stealth gameplay was removed, I find Monitor and Abuse to be mandatory on him.
I don't think Deathslinger overall is better than Huntress, but for me he is more fun to use.
It's kinda sad. Hey this perk can be too good against bad players, alright let force everyone to use it!
Also mending tactic got worse because of CoH.

Even Trickster is better and more fun... Trickster...
-
@BenihimeWrath said:
The hitbox for Deathslinger's spear is much smaller than the Huntress' hatchet. So in that sense, if you are an expert in both killers then there will be shots you can physically get with the speargun that you won't be able to with the hatchets.
Problem is that it got way harder to make those shots because of longer ADS. So right now it is just negative, because you are more likely to miss.

It's actually better on him then demo TBH. With 8 stacks(even slightly less). You recover fast enough to shoot them before they're out of range(if you can land the hit). STBFL on demo is honostly overated. He can't hit a shred before they get anywhere. You still have to chase a little bit. But people love it on demo because you can save stacks. You can work around it with slinger by eating a stun for the first hit and save 2 stacks.
yeah, but that takes time. That's a problem and it can get worse when obsession refuses to struggle and will try to body-block for others etc.
Demo doesn't really care about that.
It actually wasn't that rare to see for me and it was super annoying.
-
@BrokenSouI said:

Yea basically. What he has going for him is that STBFL is god tier on him. That's about it now.
Yeah, that is good perk for him, not Demo level good tho. Problem is that you can't 100% go around obsession and if you are unlucky, your obsession will see what you are trying to do and never struggle, which is huge problem.

I always played him ADS. So I won't say the ADS ruined him. He's still usable and functions exactly the same. I won't say that he doesn't feel clunky for the people who DID quick scope with him though. His power still is usable though. The TR nerf(increase) was the BIGGEST killer to me
I am not saying he is useless. He is far from worst kiler in the game, but he is just clumsy, worse, less unique, less fun, lower skill ceiling Huntress.
He has limitations other ranged killers don't, he has two weird mechanics (ADS, reel) that are actually downgrade for him.
He had two major things and one minor going for him: lower TR, quick-scope and mending. Let's be honest almost noone cares about mending, it actually got worse because of CoH too. So he just has nothing going for him, play Trickster or Huntress instead.

While I'm in the camp of his ADS change wasn't nearly as big of a deal as people make it out to be. His TR nerf(increased) was overkill. And ruined him completly. If I play him now. I honostly patrol my hook and surrounding gens and see if I can snowball. Because people run early and often against him now
TR nerf make him worse killer, ASD nerf made him clumsy and unfun to use (for me).
I can deal with weaker killer, but why should I bother when I don't enjoy it?
I played him 100% for a quickscope. He is just not interesting without it.

Yea and my point was that yours is dumb. Saying "play duh chareecter!!!" means literally nothing. You don't want to make a valid point and would rather just write off everyone who disagrees with you as scrubs. If you can name any down side to being able to zone survivors in every possible way then please tell me. I'm interested in hearing.
You are not faster than survivors while doing that...
It's also boring af and his ADS mechanic with lower sensitivity and FOV is super clumsy. His zoning is not even better than Huntress.
Tell me reason to play him and not Huntress? There were reasons before, but they got removed. I can tell you a lot of reasons why not play him.
-
@[Deleted User] said:
Deathslinger and Trickster both have The Huntress Problem: they don't bring anything to the table that makes them a better option than Huntress if you're looking to play a ranged killer. They have all of the same drawbacks but nothing that meets or exceeds her strengths in any area. That's before you even get into the fun factor. It's obviously very subjective, but Huntress is miles ahead of Slinger or Trickster in the fun to play department.
Trickster is less punished for missing and his time to down in open is better. He is kinda ranged bubba.
but yeah, Deathslinger has nothing, only limitations that they don't have.

@Laluzi said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/296869/why-does-nobody-play-death-slinger-anymore
Why would people use Slinger over Huntress in his current state? Everything that Slinger had going over Huntress - quickscoping, reactivity, and stealth - has been removed from his kit. When you take those away, Huntress is objectively better and more rewarding to play - she's not range-capped, has more favorable hitboxes, and isn't punished as much for missing. She also has a higher skill ceiling.
If you think he hardly got nerfed, you don't understand how he worked. His main draw was the quickscopes; people who were used to FPS games had a killer who rewarded that skillset, and that doesn't work anymore. And Monitor went from borderline OP on him to borderline mandatory just to make up for how crippling a 32m TR is for Slinger. They should have given him a 24m lullaby instead of that.
Don't forget that she can down over pallets and she can recover from hit faster (no need to reload after each shot), better add-ons, she can also flick and her mechanic holding hatchet is just way better to use than ADS of Deathslinger.

nah he always had this level of zoning. just by walking around due to the insta-ADS you'd zone people through simply existing. take into account latency and a good slinger would have you speared before theyd have even moved on your end. his ability to quickscope was his zoning, and now his ability to walk while ADSing is his zoning.
all they did was change how he has to zone.
That's not true.
They could just make longer animation when he stop his ADS, so he couldn't fake it and he would be forced to commit on his shots more.
His projectile is super small and it's not instant, it was possible to dodge it even before, but problem was Deathslingers that just fake it.
-
@Hippie said:
Because he should have been made 4.6m/s alongside his nerfs... there is no reason for him not to be. His map pressure is abysmal, and every other ranged Killer is stronger than him. Not to mention, he's not even a true ranged Killer--every other ranged Killer can hit Survivors at range, but Slinger has to have them within M1 range. He can't down Survivors at range!
Like I said in a previous post, Pyramid Head is a FAR better Killer than him, moves at 4.6m/s, can hit through pallets and walls, and has more going for him besides his M2. Slinger has nothing that warrants playing him over any other ranged Killer, except for pure personal preference.
Let's be honest, even if they buff him to 4,6 m/s, noone will play him. Main problem is his ADS mechanic. It feels like ######### to use.
He was interesting because of quick-scope and we didn't have to deal with ADS mechanic before.
-
@GoodBoyKaru said:
Because as much as I parade about the nerf and as much as I say he deserved it, it was lowkey overkill. I'm happy that I never have to face him anymore but I feel like they could've done so much more to reward skillshots after aiming instead of this, and whilst he's still amazing at zoning due to the increased movement speed that's all he's really good at now.
I absolutely hate(d) Slinger, and I really feel like he needed a change, but they didn't go about it the right way. His fundamental flaws continue to exist while being unfun to play as now in the eyes of a lot of people, as well as the animations making people nauseous.
He's a prime example as to why choice restrictions for perks and powers should be implemented to help balance out imho.
What is funny that everyone complained about zoning and they changed him in a way that he is actually forced to use zoning way more than before..
I never liked to use zoning while playing him, because it's cheap and boring for me. I always enjoyed quick-scope and it was super satisfying to get long range hits, but it's just not viable against survivors that look behind them, because even potato can react to it now, so it's not worth a risk and zoning is only option.
-
He might be fun to go against, but he is not fun to play.
Why play him and not Huntress?
He is clumsy, worse, less fun, less unique Huntress. Deathslinger was my main, but he is just not interesting anymore.
He had two unique things -> quick-scope and low TR. They removed both. He has limitations that other ranged killers don't, but he doesn't have anything better than them now.
It's funny from you to say that he "hardly" got nerfed, when you have never played him.
-
I didn't mind Dead Hard that much like hey I ######### up, or yeah free extra loop I can't do anything about is annoying, but when I get validated for it, with 30 ms ping? Yeah, that's when I am done.

Sadly the data here suggests the survivors need more help to leverage a 2k balance. Devs need to be looking at the context of a match not just the outcomes.
I always thought it's kinda dumb to have goal for 2k average.
Like you kill one guy during game, you camp the last guy. That's nowhere near fun to be honest.
It's just hopeless when you get to the point where you know that it's close to impossible get actually a 4k and you can get there really fast agaisnt decent players.
It's just weird to have super stressful game for a ######### 2k.
Yesterday I had game with Oni when they played super safe. I got ######### 2 hooks when all gens were finished, but I downed one guy near exit gate and managed to down another when they tried to save. So I got 2 kills from that game and that is supposed to be their goal to have "balanced" game?

Someone else made a specific, numerical assertion, which he then contested.
of course it can be proven.
exactly same way he wants other person to prove it.
Gameplay
Well, from that we might be able to tell MMR at least, but if someone wants to tell me that high MMR (he didn't say that) is not full of meta perks and SWF, I will want to see gameplay with amount of playtime those survivors have.
I can just prove it by using other streamers record. Scott made a video about it. It was about EU vs NA tho, but you could see ######### tons of meta perks there.

I think he's the disputant in this scenario. Someone made a claim and he is disputing it. The burden of proof isn't on him.
He is OP, isn't he?
He claimed something.
Most killers see same meta perks over and over again. He wants to tell us that it doesn't happen. Sure, I want to see those games.
Someone disagree with him and he wants a proof? That's not how it works. He doesn't have anything to back up his claim but he wants it from others.

Yeah that's a 'proving the negative' fallacy. There's no way for him to prove that something doesn't happen, because that's literally impossible.
The burden of proof is always on the claimant for this exact reason :).
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2662639#Comment_2662639
I...have no idea. Early morning games are always impossibly good Chinese players, while afternoon/evening games are pretty balanced.
You know that you are getting a crazy high MMR, so yes - you'll be facing people with crazy high MMRs too. That's how matchmaking works :). It wouldn't be fair to pair you up against lowbies.
Ehm, yeah. That's what I want.
He is the claimant. He said that survivors don't use meta perks.
One guy disagree with him and he wants proof?

I see similar stuff, especially on my early morning games (something is hinky with MMR around that time, I have a suspicion). But this is also a product of you massively inflating your MMR to the point where you are only going to be facing squads with similar massively inflated MMRs.
If you played a bit more chill, you'd usually face more chill groups.
That survivors don't use meta perks.

I get why they're popular ideas and I agree that the problems they address need addressing, I've suggested similar things to basekit kindred and removal of perk tiers myself, but not quite as far as them.
I think survivors should have the ability to ping the location of other survivors, but it wouldn't be an aura, it would be a heartbeat styled like killer instinct, giving you direction but not precise location, and no killer aura. This keeps Kindred a valid perk, but it also wouldn't be countered by aura-blocking effects.
And I think all unlocked perks should be available automatically at tier 1. This would mean you could form a build of any tier 1 perks you like the moment you start playing a new character, but still allow you to grind for tier 2 and 3 versionss for a sense of progression. This reduces the grind by a third (instead of two thirds of removing tiers completely) but with the bonus of not needing to grind out pages and pages of bloodwebs just to find the one perk you need. So it's arguably more user and newbie friendly, while still maintaining the progression of tiering up perks.
Both are better and less disruptive to the games design and currency economy than simply basekit Kindred or removing perk tiers.
Like, I don't agree 100% with what he said.
DeahtSlinger needs way more to be interesting again, just 115% wouldn't change anything imo.
Oni's Topknot doesn't need more nerfs.
Hey, give all perks as T1 would help too, still better than nothing.
I don't think kindred basekit would be that broken, I would give only survivor aura part tho, not a killer -> that would stay with a perk + his new effect.
I would love to see some type of chat wheel tho like -> I am chased, I found a totem, I am going to save etc. simple actions that would help soloQ to call their actions. Still worse than SWF, but way better than nothing.
-
@Seraphor said:
No to basekit perks or removing perk tiers completely. There are better options that aren't so extreme, and frankly they sound a bit too entitled. Like, asking for unlimited bloodpoints or permanent Ruin.
Those are not really all his ideas. Those are things suggested for a long time and would fix a lot of issues.
Kindred basekit was suggested a lot to help soloQ and I agree with it.
Grind is huge issue and makes it hard for new players to enjoy this game and this would fix it.
and it's still nowhere near unlimited BP... just ######### and noone ever asked for permanent Ruin (I hope so at least)

https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2661589#Comment_2661589
Yes and No. It would lower the range of possible outcomes thats true. But it would most likely attack only the extreme edge cases primarily. I don't want an insane killer snowball or Survivor snowball. Not to mention that RNG would still be at play. It would just be more "standardized"
Problem is this just doesn't work for indoor maps.
This would create either ######### tons of deadzones, or OP setup for survivors.
