I feel you. Last night I had a game where I did 2 gets and got one unhook, plus opened the door. We kinda destroyed the killer. Game was over in like 5 minutes and I didn't get chased once. I feel like I pulled my weight that game and escaped yet still lost a pip.

    So bad :(

I did miss the point slightly, yes, my apologies. But the idea remains the same. The system was designed to promote variety in survivor and killer actions (and interactivity between the two) throughout each game. And it does that well in most scenarios. There are oddities on a case-by-case basis, like the game you had where you fulfilled the survivors' objective as indicated by lore.

From a gameplay perspective though, the system deems you "unworthy". We can tie some lore to this, perhaps it's the entity that demands to be entertained, and you and your crew, as well as the killer, failed to entertain the entity, and therefore there was no bread at the campfire that night. Outside of lore, you simply didn't fulfill enough interactions in the game to safety pip. It's annoying, yes, but the intention behind the system is to push both roles out of their respective comfort zones and do things they normally wouldn't do if they want to succeed.

There is no real way for the game to tell the difference between a game that didn't provide opportunity for a safety pip (because one of the roles didn't play on par with the other), or a freeloader survivor hiding in a corner and escaping without risk of getting deranked. If escaping guaranteed at least a safety pip no matter what, or killing would grant at least a safety pip no matter what, players who "succeeded" but, from a gameplay perspective, performed poorly all things considered, wouldn't be punished for it.

I hope this makes sense, I'm trying to explain as best I can think of!

It's an unfortunate circumstance in which you've wound up in, but you should see it as a necessary evil, is what I'm trying to say. Luckily, oddities like these don't happen often (from my personal experience), so you won't encounter this "issue" often.

Yes what you said does make sense, and I mostly agree with your points.

The only part that I dispute is thst even a freeloader who manages to avoid the killer the whole match should safety pip if he escapes.

It is true that the emblem system should stimulate interactions between players, and I am OK with that, simply a punishment for the goal is wrong.

At the end of the day an escape or 3 kills for a killer is a victory which c deserves at least not to be punished

@DBDbuildsYT Another great example of depiping even if you escaped.

Let me sum up the game: we spawned a saw ruin, cleansed it did a gen, cleansed another 2 totem. Did another gen. By the time Myers got to tier 3 once and never even hit another survivor. While I was cleansing another totem, last gen poped and gates powered. I opened one of the gates. Then Myers got to tier 3 again and killed someone with tombstone piece. Then others left.

So most of you here saying it is my fault not to chase down killer to have boldness points for emblem?

Ridiculous, the pipping system is arbitrary and frankly silly.

  • @xZeroStrike said:

The pip system may not make much sense in some scenarios like this one, but it works well for the majority of the time.

There are 2 points of view you can have on this: your personal point of view, in which the system is flawed, or the point of view the devs went with: the one that promotes gameplay and interaction.

The system currently works for the second point of view and that's to keep the gameplay fun and add variety in each game. It may not make much sense to escape and depip, but from the view the devs had and how they intended the system to operate, it does.

It's frustrating at times, but imagine if the system would reward simply escaping or simply killing. There would be survivors who do gens and nothing else. It would promote hatch-camping once more. It would encourage killers to bring Ebony Mori's, because all they need to do is kill.

It would make more sense, but it would arguably drain the fun out of the game rather quickly. It'd be unhealthy for the game in the long run, which is why I think the current system, despite its quirks during the occasional round, is a good system that works the way it should.

I think you missed the point, we are not talking about pipping we are talking about NOT depiping when you do your job.

No matter how you slice it, achieving my victory conditions must give me a black pip

They're out on switch right now and live build tests on pc begin in october according to the servers delay blog post.

They'll be here before ya know it. Technically on live servers next month if you count the tests.

IF they work, IF they are an actual improvement.

I played them quite a lot and they are a big downgrade, so I'm not sure what they will be able to do.

Currently they are abysmal in performance, let's see

They are working in providing dedicated servers which in my opinion will greatly reduce waiting time.. But don't know when they will be available.

Did you try the dedicated servers on the ptb?

They were an abomination, so don't hold your breath for them.

The code of dbd, is dubious at best.

Nothing will change because they are just kicking the can down the road rather stopping everything and fix the game

  • Same, survivors was fine and fast until this morning now it is 4-5 mins and the three man lobbies are back.

Killer is 7-8 minutes plus 1-2 fir the game to start.

Overall a terrible update, lots of errors when swf and still the devs are refusing to stop the production and address these bugs and unbalances before adding new content.

well. If I left when I had games like these consecutively, I wouldn't play this game at all.

Especially with the event, everyone plays like crazy. Killers extra sweaty campy, survivors extra YOLO.

3 in a row now I encountered Mori tunneling killers. Died at different times of the game still earned less than 10k in all of them. All red rank matches, side note.

I am in a place where I don't give a ######### at this point. Pips mean nothing, rank means nothing. And I got double even I leave with 300 points. So here I am. onward to the next camping killer.

    Sorry to hear that :(

  • @antgnstea said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/720195#Comment_720195

kind of disagree. Yeas DS can save your life, but if killer persist on you and you already used it there is not much you could have done.

For example just got out of a game where 5 blink Nurse downed me, hooked me and my rank 2 teammate saved me while she was breaking gen behind me without bt and moried me where I lay. So I got out 6k points and -1 points for 3 min game. Yeah lets move on to others. So much more fun to have.

If that's the case you lose, but I hardly doubt that this happens often.

I play dbd on both ps4 and pc and those killers are not common.

If it happens go and eat a sandwich

  • @PiedPiper365 said:

Its funny how since this double Bloodpoints event has started that there has not been any mercy shown by me as a killer, and when I play as a surv cuz the matchmaking as killer sucks at the moment, I've notice alot more campers and no mercy shown😂

The reason I find this funny is cuz I would usually let atleast one person go if no one dc, but all I've been doing is grinding day and night before this ends,

So this question is for the killers. Since the event started have u shown any mercy?

And this one is for the survs. Have y'all had the same problem as me with the increase of campers?

I mostly let everybody go after double hooking, this is if I am winning.

I'll kill only two baggers or heavy loppers.

I'll play normally until its time to kill them, at that point I'll just slug and move to the next target to maximise my BP.

After a while survivors will understand you don't want to kill them and everyone scores more than 25k.

So maybe you looped or the bagged or flashlight spam?

  • @antgnstea said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/720161#Comment_720161

Just a question. How should I play with people with bt? Should I ask whenever I am in a lobby?

It is simple impossible for solo survivors to know that. You just hope your teammate has some common sense and save you appropriately. Which is frustrating tbh.

Eh if you need to play solo then used ds and dh to reach a safe loop.

Also, rank up because its less likely to find bad team mates at Red ranks

  • @Aikanaro said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/720117#Comment_720117

The lame strategy is hook, go away for 15 seconds, go back as soon someone is unhooked and down him/her to get a free hook, very little chases and you have 27k.

    So its camp in disguise.

If you experience that regularly you need to equip ds and dh,and play with people with bt.

If that's the tendency of the killer rush the gens and save after adrenaline has popped.

It's not fun but that's something that happens

  • @Aikanaro said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/720095#Comment_720095

IDK how they measure camping, but with this blood hunt event all the tryhards hook someone, then go away for 10 seconds and then they are back to get a free hook again, so its still camping but they get like 27k doing crappy games like that and Im pretty sure they Pip.

Depending on your rank, but as a general rule you don't pip after green ranks if you camp.

Also you don't really score 27k by camping. If you do you won't score many points in sacrifice and deviousness ( unless Bubba).

All in all camping is a silly strategy for both pipping and BP.

  • @AngryFluffy said:

I had the same thing yesterday. It was a really quick game, the killer found me first and I ran him around for 3 gens (which were very fast done since he got no hex:ruin). I got hooked, unhooked and healed, did a gen the other gen popped and I got out. No one else got hooked or injured and I lost a pip.

I mean I can understand if you don't pip when there was not enough done, but if they handle it like that, they should also compare the amount of things that were done while you were getting chased. Running the killer around for 3 gens should not be something that gets punished, I mean, what else should I do in a situation like that? You should always safety pip if you did something and escaped.

Also as killer you should get at least a safety pip if you get a 4k. It should not be a thing to loose a pip if you reached your main goal.

    I agree with everything.

Winning g conditions for survivors : escape

Winning conditions for killers : 3 kills or more

    AT LEAST a safety pip

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/719841#Comment_719841

The same goes for you. Maybe you’ll learn how to play the game the way that it was designed to be played, or maybe you won’t. If you don’t, I’m sure we’ll see you complaining about it in the forums. BTW, you might try understanding my post instead of replying blindly. It is very apparent to everyone else that the OP was not painting an accurate picture. The emblems he shows are proof of that.

What does the emblem system show?

I did gens, doors and totems

Escaped as the obsession and made points there

Won one chase and lost one

And I made a unsafe unhook, granted that it was a mistake because I was awake and then freddy hit me and nullified my borrowed time. That's the penalty.

I ended up this game with 20700 BP and a wglf stack for the protection hit while unhooking

    Anything else are wrong assumptions

  • @Regionlock said:

Funniest part about all of this is if the killer is too good, trolling with mori, or your teammates are bad, you are likely to depip as well. Basically, the survivor needs to hope the killer is above average and not sweating with beads/ try hard addons to make up for lack of skill.

The survivor needs to have all sorts of circumstances that need to happen, but the killer just needs a few to play out correctly. There are a few things out of his control like DC, but for the most part he is in control of his PIPS.

The main reason survivors Gen rush is because that truly is the only objective. It's not a survivors job to go couch infron of the killer then proceed to be called a Toxic T-bagger. The killer is suppose to find the survivor and there are plenty of perks to aid in that regard.

For example, when ever I face a wraith, clown or w/e killer, I'm sitting on that gen at the same pace as if it's a Omega Nurse or Bead spirit. Why do I have to hold the killers hand? I already got to hold 3 other survivors hands while I play. You think every unhook is safe? and every survivors unhook on me is a smart play?

It's so rare to get those circumstances where you get a team that plays smart versus for example a spirit/nurse. I've beaten Omega nurses and bead spirits many times only because the RNG graces were on my side for that match. Don't get me wrong the ratio is way in favor of the killer, but it's possible in a few matches, and we take what we can get.

Funny thing is I've depip from playing an Omega Nurse who couldn't find anyone on the map. I don't even think they found anyone the entire match. I had a full closet, corner hugging team ready to troll this Nurse, and not give them any chases. The depip was worth the time invested sitting behind objects, but that match took way too long. This was in Springwood.

Also, a killer is in control of how fast a 4k happens, so don't blame a depip on that. Multiple times I could of ended a game super early, but I let people wiggle. Don't pretend like your not in control of the match.

Truth to be told, I didn't even gen rush.

I removed ruin and another totem and opened a chest.

But the killer kept chasing the Jake so what else could I do besides gens?

  • @Mister_xD said:

thats just as ridiculous as the killer killing 3 or more survivors and depiping.

you clearly won at that point, so you should at least get a safety pip!

  • @Kasaki said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/719047#Comment_719047

So someone shouldn't get a pip because the killer was so terrible he couldn't catch anyone ? What kinda logic is that? So the survivor has an excellent game and nobody gets caught because they play right but we better depip those bastards for wrecking the killer so bad eh? Lol

    Odd system indeed

  • @BlockBite said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/718518#Comment_718518

yeah, do you think able to see other survivor auras for few seconds breaks the balance?

The balance is already broken, survivors are op. So killers needs to be buffed first then you can Buff wglf

  • That's an arbitrary choice of the devs, the goal of my team was to escape and I contributed by doing two gens and one door ( the only door opened). That's something that saved my team and allowed the escape

  • @ImmortalReaver said:

You lost a pip because you didn't help your team at all. Notice the lack of an emblem there.

To which I don't agree, I did 40% of the objective plus I opened a door.

So I'd say that doing roughly half of the objective permitting my team to escape is helping my team.

  • @Rizzo said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/719104#Comment_719104

With that mentality, doing gens and hiding the entire match, without interacting with the killer or your teammates, gets rewarded, which wouldn't be good for the game.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/719083#Comment_719083

It's up to the killer to decide who to chase, I know it sucks and it's boring, but if the killer decides to tunnel, they create an uneventful game for three people, which can bring to these situations.

On top of that, if you check the screenshot, they were one point away from blackpipping, which would've happened if the unhook they did was a safe one, but it wasn't, so the system punished them for not helping their team.

So in conclusion, that was an uneventful match with a mistake that didn't guarantee the blackpip.

And thst doesn't make it fair nevertheless

  • @Rizzo said:

That's what I'm saying, the game didn't have more to offer, those games happen.

The emblem system has issues, for sure, but in this case it did its work well, at least in my opinion.

Simply escaping should grant a safety pip, it doesn't seem that difficult.

My job was to survive, which I did

  • @Rizzo said:

I didn't say 21k and escaping, I said escaping has never guaranteed a pip.

Judging by the emblems, you barely saw the killer, probably repaired a couple of gens and escaped, also you got 0 points in benevolent, so who got hooked didn't get saved properly.

If the match had nothing more to offer, there's not much to say.

I'm not asking for a pip, I'm asking not to depip when escaping. I didn't want to pip I just wanted not to lose a pip while doing my job to survive.

The killer chased a jake for almost five gens. I did two gens, I unhooked jake but forgot about bt not activating so get went down. I run the killer a bit but got downed and hooked.

I got unhooked, won the chase and opened the door and escaped.

All in all my objective was done, a safety pip should be granted on a successful escape.

I can't choose if the killer ignores me

  • @Skylanxer said:

That is far from enough to pip, even in the 15-20 ranks. This is what'll pip you easy: be at least average at chases, do gens, at least 1 gen is fine but just work on the others if you can, make a save or 2. Done. It works everytime to break even at the very least.

Well not much I can do if the killer ignores me most of the match, I did my gens, won a chase, lost one and opened a door and the match was over. A safety pip should be granted, but I depipped and that's silly

  • @Rizzo said:

Escaping doesn't guarantee you a pip, it has never done it, not even when the system was bloodpoints based.

Not true, 21k and escaping you have never lost a pip until the new system

  • @TAG said:

I think the emblem system by itself is just not a good way to determine pips.

I agree considering I scored 21k BP that match

  • @lynelmane said:

Sure it sucks that you lose a pip for escaping, when you shouldnt. But you also didn't distribute your emblems enough (healing, helping others) so you didn't get enough points to pip.

Eh it was a quick game, freddy was only able to hook a person and then myself with the exit doors open.

Still I did my goal which was escaping, it should grant me at least a safety pip being the most important part

  • They should just revert to the point where you had to create the lobby each time.

Like this we keep getting errors and losing mstches

  • If you are patient nurse is very powerful, but maybe spirit is better to start with

Survivors need many more bps that's UNDISPUTABLE

  • @RakimSockem said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/718523#Comment_718523

I wasn't attempting to throw shade at killers or say that anything should be changed about them. I think I said something to that effect in my original post, but yeah.

Survivors need some kind of boost to BP and it's crazy to escape a match and come out with like 17-18k (which is like a bad game for a killer)

    Agreed

  • I agree to an extent, but don't put killers into the equation.

Survivors and killers should have a higher total cap for each category, like 10k each category for a total max of 40k per trial.

Survivors who escape should never score less than 20k points.

Escaping should grant a 10k bonus, basically the whole survival score event.

A typical good game for a survivor should be around 23-25k with an escape, a couple of gens and saves and running the killer a bit.

Also, I think that depending on what role has been played the most at a particular time , the other role should get a 10-20% BP increase to push people to play that role to shorten queues

  • @BlockBite said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/717345#Comment_717345

but... still, We are gonna live forever not such powerful, as BBQ and Chili

Killer's have four perks and survivors 16, how can you even think it would be fair?

  • @riotangel said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/718419#Comment_718419

And how the game mechanics actually encourage killers to tunnel (even when not camping) for tactical edge.

Yes you stand fully correct :)

Tunnelling and slugging help a lot in many circumstances.

I think this comes down to the fact that the devs are trying to balance chases for one vs one in a 4 vs 1 game leading to killers having to waste massive times that should be used insp pressure.

All in all the devs lack of understanding of high level games leads to lots of mistakes with map balance being a terrible one

  • @riotangel said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/717756#Comment_717756

Exactly. The fundamental core of the game with its map and obstacle design, is primarily about the chase loop. In one old stream broadcast, the developers even talk about the mathematics behind the loopability of various object clusters.

This game cannot be a Metal Gear Solid stealth game.

I don't think the devs have a y clear idea about how to play their game at high levels. That's why they design maps which are terrible, like hawkings.

Some areas are borderline unplayable for a killer and some areas are terrible for a survivor.

    Unplayable map

  • @TragicSolitude said:

I think it's because they can lose so much time to one person looping. It's frustrating for the killer, and the survivor is the only one they can take that frustration out on.

Personally, I just find looping boring. If a survivor goes to a second loop, I ditch. I've had survivors message me that their match was boring 'cause I didn't chase them, but whatever, not my problem. I need to pressure gens (or if the match is really unfun, go afk and get a snack); I don't have time to run in circles.

We should all do this, when someone starts heavy lopping just leave and kick gens

I'm not a streamer but I've seen someone with Clown do fine at red ranks plus he can stop loops expose with the right add ons and slow the game down completely

Then I suggest you to try and see why these strategies are largely unviable, unless your skill level trumps the survivors skill level. This is often the case with top tier streamers like tofu.

But this doesn't mean the killer is viable, it means they are better players

That kind of attitude is the reason this community is so toxic. I brought in three new friends to play the game with, and simply because im showing them the ropes that is bullying? Bullying is ussually 3 red ranks with flashlights and t-bagging and running the killer around for ages. I usually stay in the background and just come in when im really needed.
