If you need to play the strongest killers to do well in DBD either you're not very good or you refuse to learn different play styles.
Imagine seriously saying Billy, Huntress, Hag and Freddy are a joke
I'm fairly sure I play at higher ranks than you do
-
Killers with the exception of nurse and spirit are the joke role in dbd, fact!

I could agree if the player base was much larger than it currently is.
Your position is understandable, still something needs to be done.
I'm back playing f13 because of red ranks, it isn't a good business decision on bhvr

I think as the one guy said, extend ranking levels to like 25-30, spread out the skill levels a bit wider, might give more scope for matchmaking too. also the idea of games that are specifically done on player level is great
I agree that was an excellent idea indeed

It works well for me now but only because dbd isn't my number 1 game anymore. I'm happy to play other stuff. Wouldn't have been the case a year or so ago when it was all I wanted to play...
Yes I agree I just bought world war z ps4 as an alternative.
Still I think it's bad business for bhvr as I am a high spending customer who is essentially forced away from the game by a frustrating experience
-
@Rex_Huin said:
Normally when I reach a killer rank that I find too sweaty I don't play for a month or so and enjoy playing in the lower ranks again when I come back to it.
That's just what works best for me. I do agree with you OP, the killer experience just becomes frustrating and stressful at a certain point.
Yes that's also what I am planning to do.
Although I find it hard to believe that a company like bhvr isn't doing much to allow people to play more of the game.
They should try to make the experience better rather than forcing us to stop playing because red ranks are frustrating
-
@NullSp3c said:
They should just increase the number of ranks to 50, so people who really tryhard can get to rank 1 and people who are good at the game, but just play for fun don't reach rank 15 or below. It's really painful how it is now.
This would also solve the problem of the people who purposely depip to destroy newcomers.
You start at rank 50 with 2 pips per rank. When you reach rank 40 you are UNABLE to come back, even with rank reset. People who ended at rank 40 would still be on rank 40. People who ended at rank 30 would go to between 38-40 depending on the number of pips they had.
I'll make a general idea of how I would put ranks:
- 50-41: 2 pips per rank, you can't get back to these ranks the moment you reach the next ranks.
- 40- 31:3 pips per rank.
- 30-16:4 pips per rank.
- 15- 4 :5 pips per rank.
- 3-1: 2 pips per rank, but each depip would result in resetting back to rank 3 with no pips.
This way, people who wanted to have fun, could have their fun without bothering with tryharders and toxic swf. People who want to be the best at the game, could get a challenge and try to reach rank 1.
No, it wouldn't make the game more competitive making a more complex ranking system, because it would make the player's skill/fun factor more precise and, having no rewards for ranking up, you wouldn't need to rush to rank 1 and make the game even more frustrating than it is.
The emblems should be reviewed to go on par with these changes. People at rank 50-41 would need, FOR EXAMPLE, only 2 silvers and 2 golds to double pip. This would be really good, and the matchmaking would have a better time finding people to matchmake. They should be on the same color.
This is a great idea, I think it would help a lot :)

@cetruzzo said:
You no longer lose 2 pips for DC?
unfortunately no :( previously I could play 6 games averaging 3-4 pips and do a couple of dcs to stay at my rank but now it is not possible anymore :(
@Mookywolf @Mr_K I did essentially farm, or better I usually play a normal game until everyone has been double hooked then I stop trying (this is when I am winning obviously) and let everyone escape BUT YOU STILL pip until purple ranks give or take.
I should have been more careful but my queues as killer were so long during the BH than I was trying my best to make points and sometimes I ended up killing people to maximise my sacrifice gain.
In hindsight it was a mistake!
Still I find it odd that if I play a video game, the way it is supposed to be played I end up punished in the nasty ranks
@Dreamnomad I don't know what to say about wait times on ps4, in my experience it takes time to create a lobby, time to have it filled and sometimes (2/10 times) I only have 3 survivors with the 4th not showing up for minutes. It is frustrating, if lobbies were faster I would simply play and lose 3 times in a row but this would require at least 40 minutes wasted each day, I do not have this luxury :(

@Awakey said:
I really don't know what to tell you, other than try to stay out of red ranks. I understand your frustrations completely. I'm in purple ranks for both Survivor and Killer, because I've been playing considerably less.
On the flip side, the people you're facing are using legitimate builds and strategies to ensure their own victory. To some, fun and victory are synonymous, and they'll go to any length to achieve this. When I was in red ranks with Spirit, it took me all I have to stay there. Prayer Beads, meta perks, other strong add-ons.
My point is, you're right, just think about the killers.
I agree with you, each match both survivor and killer feels very tense and I am not really enjoying them at all.
I would rather have some more casual games where I can relax a bit more.
How do you manage to stay out of the red ranks? I essentially need to play a max of 3 games per day to stay out 100% but I would like to play way more but if the punishment is red ranks then I won't play
-
@altruistic said:
Red Rank Survivor feels like a punishment.
I hate it, but I am enjoying playing the game again. I just wish it was harder to rank up so I could stay in the green rank area.
Oh my gosh you are SO RIGHT!
Green ranks are the best ranks, unfortunately it is so easy to get out of green ranks :(

@Gemaniacal said:
Yes. I've been floating around Killer purple ranks for the past couple of weeks. And I'd say about every 3 out of 5 matches, I'll get all red rank survivors. Usually with at least one or two rank 1's.
I initially thought it was just due to me playing during later (early morning) hours, with a natural lack of more Killer players. But I've been playing earlier in the day the past week, and the problem still persist.
Confident in saying, there is a severe lack of red rank Killers on PS4.
Because being a red rank killer is a complete punishment.
I am in the red ranks on ps4 right now because I played a lot during the blood hunt and now I don't want to play anymore.
Every mstch is sweat and try hard, it's not funny it's miserable.
I cannot wait for rank reset, but even then I'll need to play less and less to avoid ending up in the red ranks

I’m in red ranks for only 2nd time and I absolutely hate it. Once the season restarts, I never want to go back. It’s just not fun. Most matches every team is annihilated and the only one who earns decent BP is the killer. Bear in mind this is solo survivor on PS4.
That's true, dbd has a big issue because it basically prevents people from playing a lot because if you do you are punished by ending up in the red ranks which is a real torture.
I played a lot during the bh and now I have both killer and survivor in the red ranks which is frankly annoying

They did not freeze Ultima Online for months on end.
Also, we are never going to agree on the merits of that game, seeing as how I would argue that the existence of Trammel fundamentally destroyed it.
They didn't change much and the game was stable nothing compared to the bug factory thst dbd is.
As for trammel yes, but I understand why they did it, it wouldn't have grown to those numbers with just Fel.
The last year if guild wars before gw2 was also pretty stable and the experience improved a lot with plenty of bugs being fixed.

With those addons, they could tell what addons i was using right away. Red brush starts everyone off asleep, and since their asleep, they immediately see the icon for swingchain's slowdown. One of em DCed before I even had control of my character.
That said they are not really enjoyable add ons.
I also dislike a mstch where I need to sit on a gen forever. The devs need to make gen repairs more dynamic, these builds are a torture.
But I understand why you use a build like that in red ranks

You can't expect to have fun in a game where your opponent needs to squash you to win.
That's thr nature of asymmetric and that's why it is so toxic

Cite one example where what you're describing has happened. Final Fantasy XIV doesn't count, since that was functionally rebooted as an entirely different game.
Ultima online up until AOS we had 18 months of just bug fixing and the game was SOOO GOOD, then AOS came and changed the game completely having most vets leaving the game but it worked like a charm

New bugs get found with every patch. Taking a 6 month break isnt going to stop more bugs from surfacing later. Even stuff that wasnt broken or even TOUCHED during a patch somehow gets a bug. Wakeup wasnt touched at all when somehow after being in the game for a year...it got a bug.
I mean if they can't improve the game in six months, not perfrct but improving then I think they need a different career.
It is possible to freeze a game and make it more effective

i dont bother deranking (on purpose), and instead just beat red ranks. It DOES kinda suck when trying to learn a killer I'm not proficient at yet though.
Yes I see your point, although I'm not really interested in wins but more in fun games and that doesn't happen at Red ranks for me.
Each game is really sweaty and I need to focus hard.
This doesn't happen at green ranks for me where I can play a gateau, double hook everyone and let everyone escape ( bar thr t baggers/loppers /360sers) and gain 25k plus point each match.
I don't enjoy red ranks in both roles, but since they removed the - 2 pips for dc I find very hard to go back to better ranks.
This forces me to play dbd less :(

Maybe stop and it’s time to change priorities?
The game doesn’t need more dlc’s, there are more than enough stuff the most part of which still waiting for any attention. Rly..
And add some features which will improve the game by itself? Like survivors uniqueness, more game mods, etc.
I agree, but first of all the game needs to have a six months break to be made fully playable.
Bugs to remove, maps to fix, loops to shorten. The game is borderline unplayable with all of this bugs

Dedicated servers are terrible

He should go with spirit, pass through the pain of learning but then having a real killer that is not loopable.
The real secret to this game is to control gens while not wasting time chasing survivors.
Spirit has both, good mobility, she removes loops put of the equation and once he will learn her he will be able to verse even strong survivors.
M1 killers are a waste of time

That, shouldn't be possible. Either you (and maybe me) got paired to the wrong server, or the servers just suck.
Getting 100+ pings for either of us for having the servers so close shouldn't really happen. I just did a fast ping test and me (in WV) pinging California only just broke 100ms over 2 different servers and 2 different programs. Connecting to Virginia should show pings MUCH smaller than the 140ms. You should be seeing extremely smaller pings than me being just about next door to the freaking server.
I don't know why. Just that something isn't working. And Iv been saying it wasn't going to work since the first PTB, who shown the more or less the SAME THING how ever long ago that ######### thing was.
Eh I don't know how to explain this but that's how it is :(

@Chewy102 said:
To give my personal example what how servers are compared to P2P after finally giving myself some time to play.
I attempt to be a good P2P host and often am. Survivors in my lobbies always had pings of 80-100ms with the oddball going up to 150 or so. If someone had 200+, Id dodge the lobby as that would make for poor gameplay. DbD doesn't work well when a ping gets over 200 so Id rather just not. But in 5 out of 6 games, my lobbies would have nothing but good pings so I thought I was a good host.
On dedicated servers, my ping is 140ms. Don't know what pings the Survivors are getting, but if Im getting 140ms where I live then ANYTHING they are getting is going to make our combined pings well over 200ms! By the time someone sees me coming, Im already landing the hit. That isn't fair and it is clear to see in gameplay with Survivors not reacting to anything or simply walking into me from weak sauce mind games.
I live in the middle of West Virginia, and according to the only server list I could find the nearest server to me is in upper Virginia. Not even a state away and Im getting a ping of 140ms. Going from 80ms games that most would call good/great connections to playing something I called unplayable. Crap to say the least and I feel bad for playing with such poor connections after going through the time/effort/money to make certain for that NOT to happen!
Dedicated servers are not worth the effort. Not unless you put a server in every state to keep to the same low ping standards we are used to from P2P. And that's just for the US! You have to have a LOT more than that for the rest of the world.
Is DbD playable. Yes.
Is it up to the standards are already had? Hell no.
There's supposed to be a dedicated server in London.
I live in Central London and my ping is 120-140 ms each game. It's absolutely terrible

@DBDbuildsYT Extremely doubtful. As a corporation, they are invested in the Dedicated Severs now. They might get delayed yet again before release sometime in the Fall, but one way or another they are coming.
It wouldn't be in their best interested to have two different builds: Dedicated Servers on Switch, and P2P on the other three platforms. They're going to want build consistency across all platforms.
Oh gosh... I am very worried about the future of the game, like VERY worried.
What I saw with the dedicated servers scares me deeply

Eh you have a point, although this is a losing project, they may kero them for the switch and remove them from the other machines
-
Dedicated servers need to ho, they are not good for the game.
LET'S scrap them
-
@Irvin said:
I do not think they should give up on dedicated servers, yes there is issues and I have experienced most of what you have listed. Especially Dead Hard not working but still being exhausted and being hit when I shouldn't of been hit. However the whole reason they are testing them is so we can provide feedback, with that feedback the devs will know what they need to work on.
I am really zero confident on bhvr's capacity to improve them, this sounds to me the equivalent of the infamous "Legion buff" that was actually a nerf
-
@Carpemortum said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/736193#Comment_736193
Which Is EXACTLY why they do testing. So that if (as we see here) issues occur they can fix them and give us decent dedicated servers. Or would you really rather the rampant dcs, killer side hosting and plethora of other things dedicated servers can help alleviate, continue to happen?
Jesus christ this community survives on salt and instant gratification.
I have zero trust that dedicated servers will solve dbd problems, they have been sold as a panacea but I absolutely don't believe they will improve my gaming experience. Scrapping them is the right call
-
@rNine_ said:
Honestly they should have put their work on dedicated servers to just improving the P2P networking to the best of their abilities, and implementing lockouts and punishments for DC's.
I'm sure with time they will get the servers to a decent place, but you're still going to experience things that feel terrible on both sides no matter what they try to do to fix it as long as the servers get the final say in what is taking place. I don't really understand why everyone wanted dedicated servers so badly to begin with to be honest. They were never going to "fix" the game, really the only thing that it fixes are the outlier cases of lagswitching while at the same time introducing more noticeable problems in every other department. I understand how important it is that they get tested, but leaving them implemented over the weekend was a really bad decision.
After dealing with the frustration on both sides of the game for the majority of my matches, I've just decided to take a break from playing until they are turned off.
eh you have a point, I agree with your ideas. Hopefully this misery will end soon

Lets be honest here - would yyou play PTB if it was ONLY dedicated servers?
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/736203#Comment_736203
*testing intenfifies*, they will be disabled that's for sure. My guess its either end of this week or the day they activated them (Wednesday)
Sorry maybe I didn't explain my line of thinking properly, I shall try again.
I played the servers three times, during two ptb and now live.
In every instance they were bad, much worse than ptp.
So I'm really wondering if they are worth the effort and my answer seems to be no.
I don't see the point in investing time and monet in a project that will possibly be a downgrade, nor I believe too much in bhvr coding capacity to improve the service.
I think this game needs complete focus on bugs and balance and the fabled ds are not bringing this to the table.
At this point, unless they will improve drastically they should be scrapped and the resources moved to actual game balance

I agree, they need to bin the idea once and for all

Not even close.
Yes I understand, after the blood hunt ended I mostly played my dailies and that's about it.
I am playing world war Z instead of dbd, I need a break from the sweat and the offences of this game :(

@Kilmeran said:
@DBDbuildsYT Sadly, the matchmaking isn't broken. This is now working as intended. If the matchmaker cannot find you a match near your ranks in what it considers a reasonable amount of time, it now expands parameters to a hard cap of -6/+6 ranks.
Meaning as a Rank 9, the OP can now legitimately face survivors across a range of Rank 15 through Rank 3.
Behavior went on record with that this past Wednesday. It is now the intended design: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/92295/developer-update-september-2019#latest
The fact that he's faced Red Ranks, meaning the MM went into an expanded search above his rank, doesn't shock me. For the past week, I have regularly been facing survivors +5 or +6 ranks above me as a mere Rank 15 killer. And this after waiting 10 or more minutes for a match in the first place.
And this is on PC, east coast region, U.S.
Sadly, I had to uninstall the game a day or so ago. Waiting that long for a match, to consistently get people way above my skill level, is simply not fun. And I'm not interested in playing DbD as a sweaty-tryhard game.
I understand and thank you for pointing that out.
I also understand your idea of un installing, between the matchmaking and the difficulty in deranking I am also not in the mood of playing killer, I just want some fun not a miserable try hard experience

@Rydog said:
Yep, super idiotic.
First, you escaped, which should realistically be a pip no matter what else you did, because that is the central goal.
Second, the pip thresholds should be flat across all ranks, 20-1. The efficiency demands beyond green ranks are completely unrealistic. And, preemptively for people who are like BUT BUT BUT CHALLENGE, the challenge comes from having higher rank opponents when you yourself are higher rank.
it makes so mad to play a good game and not being rewarded

Maybe the person was downed just off the hook when they dced at the last hook, I didn't pay attention as I was doing a gen

Completly ignore the Ranking System, it is not working or anything. Imagine you run the Killer for 5 Gens and then die at the end? You will probably get blackpip at best, while you deserve double.

yes you are right, I am simply angry because I really enjoyed the match and really thought I deserved a pip and when I saw nothing I got frustrated. Thank you :)

@twistedmonkey said:
I agree and have never enjoyed the emblem system.
I dislike the pip being out of your own hands and dependent on how the others all play. If no one gets caught it's a depip. If someone farms the other quickly you can depip. If they don't let you heal them you can depip. There is too much reliance on others which can make how well you play seem worthless.
You should have pipped and been close to a double pip with this game.
thank you for the empathy, I am so angry...

I didn't do any unsafe unhooks, I didn't do any unhooks I just healed one person and that's it for benevolent, this is because I was either doing gens in the first part of the trial hence the 8k in gatekeeper. And I was running the killer for the last two gens and hence the 8k in boldness.
I then proceeded to open the door and escape, this was a high quality match not getting a pip is a scandal. I maxed 3 categories out of 4
