Bleeding out is 4 minutes. During that time you can only crawl, slower than the killer can walk.

EGC is 2 minutes, and during that time the killer can go kick pallets, earn BP, go force survivors out of the match, and, most importantly force errors to secure additional kills.

All of those options are base kit for killer. Survivors are told to "just use perks that work once" to avoid being slugged.

And that doesn't even include things like blood warden, where the win condition relies on survivirs being in the match while the gates are open.

I don't think that's the point they're making. The point is that the condition will eventually be met where you leave the trial. I wouldn't have used bleeding out as the comparison personally because it's pretty loaded here but...

The game will end in both situations with a high likelihood of you losing, so what's wrong with just hurrying that last bit along in a way that saves some face, so to speak?

  • The monkey's paw curls. Survivors and killers that previously could can no longer crouch and both roles can only move in the direction they are currently facing.

  • I'd play survivor, get wrecked by the "usual suspects" then play against a baby killer and feel bad for them. Repeat.

Playing killer, similar story. I'd play a few games and get absolutely humbled then slaughter a bunch of survivors who panic the second they hear the terror radius. Repeat.

I haven't had a truly close game in a long time, it's just constant "stomp or be stomped" and that's exhausting, at least for me.

  • This is true because Deerstalker isn't like other aura read perks. You're not applying aura read in the same way you would with Lethal, instead you're giving the survivor aura read on you. Since it's the survivor seeing you that triggers Deerstalker, it still only lasts as long as they can read your aura.

  • They should make a 3K count as "Merciless Killer" for the sake of making adepts reasonable when (or if at this point, let's be honest) they finally tighten MMR up and actually go through with some form of anti-tunnel.

  • I think, though not 100% sure, that you might be able to get adept even with a hatch escape. Either way though, I fully agree with you. If a 3K is a "win", then a 3K should award the achievements.

Yes the Host can pick, but that defeats the offerings as a surprise by another player. We like a gambling style. Where we pick a map offering of OUR LIKING and see who gets it. And so far. The 20% negates three offerings. And goes random. But yes the host can choose. And as said. The HOST controls it. Like this 20% deal.

Ah, I see what you mean now. It would be cool they'd let you select more than one map in customs so you'd still have some level of randomness but again, that would require negotiating with the host and ruin the surprise element.

  • The host can choose the map in customs in the "match management" section next to your inbox.

  • Likely a mix of both but I'd put money on the community's "passionate response" being the main motivator.

  • Whilst I agree with the sentiment, as others have pointed out, you cannot generalise your experience with the overall state of the game. Well intentioned or not, you are gaming the system and creating a very different balance of power than a player who is playing to win would experience.

I'm not going to shame you for it, despite having an MMR system, the devs seem to be doing everything in their power to avoid making DbD a fair competitive experience anyway. I'd just advise against using your experience as an example of how the game should be.

  • Whilst I'm still enjoying the game, I respect anyone that walks away when they're not having a good time.

You said "I don't think they inherently favour one side overall" I think people just disagree it's not that deep, if I agree with you i'll upvote.. I often get 15 upvotes for one comment and -15 in the next

honestly I think they've been oddly biased in favor of killers since 2022, this whole sequence of events with: ghoul, clown, fog vials and anti tunnel PTB is the perfect example. They fix killer issues asap for the most part, they only take one side seriously, they just don't care unless popular killer main streamers start crying about something

Oh yeah, I'm not cut up or anything about whether or not what I say gets up votes or down votes, it's just an observation.

The pendulum has certainly swung in the balance department, although survivors have been getting things during that time too (ignoring fog vials which were handled way too heavy handed IMO). The problem is that it doesn't matter what you give survivors when Blight, Nurse and now Ghoul exist and see as much play as they do. Even the anti-tunnel stuff on the PTB wouldn't be able to prevent these killers dominating the regular survivor base. I don't envy BHVR, trying to find solutions that don't disproportionately impact certain players whilst reining in overperformers is not a job I'd want.

I didn't touch on Clown because it seemed as though pretty much everyone, survivors, killers and BP mains alike agreed it was a bad idea. Maybe in a world where they commited to removing haste stacking but that's another topic altogether.

Tone is notoriously difficult to ascertain over text.

Personally, I usually give people the benefit of the doubt and take what they say at face value UNLESS I know them.

As to your comment, realistically, its because of the money. Ghoul is insanely popular and likely a huge sale driver. They aren't going to be quick to nerf him.

100% with you on tone being hard to gauge, I usually use tone tags online (/s for sarcasm, /jk for just kidding, etc.)

On John Ghoul, I don't want to agree with you but I do. As I said in my response to Cogsturning just now, I don't want to attribute malice towards decision making but when it comes to things like Ghoul, overtuned DLC perks and such, I have to really jump through some mental hoops to come up with any other justification that isn't simply "money".

Communication, I feel, has consistently been an issue especially when it comes to survivor and lower strength killers' issues.

Yeah the tone thing isn't 100%. Depends on the topic. But there are some people who are consistently diplomatic who usually land upvotes. Then they're are those who are always spicy who will consistently get downvotes, even from people who might have agreed with them if they knew how to phrase things reasonably.

Your comment is, indeed, pretty soft, but people probably don't like that first sentence. They're determined to believe one side is favored over the other.

Yeah, I'm just hesitant to attribute malice towards BHVR's decision making. I don't think they've ever made changes with the express interest in making one side, one killer, etc. miserable to play. Even Skull Merchant's nerfs I feel were more about removing an issue more than deliberately messing her player base around.

Are they perfect? God no. Are the changes they make always for the better? See last answer. That doesn't mean they hate people who play certain roles or characters though.

  • My stance on go-next prevention has changed quite a bit since I joined the forums. (I lurk a lot, don't judge my post count)

I don't think the process should be automated. Make it reportable and actioned upon through reports sure, but there are too many situations where people who aren't trying to go-next get hit with the punishments.

Maybe it's time to retire the luck offerings? I dunno, some people really like the Kobe chance but at the same time, going next was mostly solved by removing base kit self unhook. People intentionally circumventing that with luck offerings , whilst uncommon, isn't good for the game.

I don't necessarily agree that killers are over represented on the forums, most of the big prominent names I think of here make mostly survivor inclined takes (many of which I agree with) and looking at the voting (which, admittedly is flawed) you often see killer takes, including ones with a great point, get downvoted whilst survivor takes tend to have more upvotes- even if all they've said amounts to "killers bad".

I wouldn't base much on the voting. I'm positive there are people who will downvote someone because they see a name they generally don't agree with and just autoclick down. Same for the other way around, seeing a friend or someone you usually agree with and voting up, regardless of the content. A lot of people don't seem to engage with the voting at all, so you're not getting a genuine overall opinion on a view. I've also noticed that the tone of your post can dicate how people react more than what it actually says or what side it favors.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4000278#Comment_4000278

I don't think they balance the game around upvotes and downvotes on the forum.

Yeah, for sure re. people just auto deciding based on a username. I'm not sure about the tone part though. I don't think I've said anything remotely controversial in this thread nor phrased anything in an inflammatory way and yet I've nearly 3X as many down votes to up votes on my first comment.

Or.. "fixing" ghoul makes his value proposition lower and him being new means more money. We see this with new killers all the time.

But the killer side is heavly favored but is it because of killers or people who play the role? Killers are over represented on the forms and as streamers And in groups of long term players that "prefer" the role.

So there is a lot of incentive for these big loud groups to "gate keep" or fight back against anything that takes a inch from them or a perk that is inconvenient. It really is a shame because issues on survivor sides are severely under reported which is why it takes literal ages for fixes or balance changes to come see camping tunneling slugging 3 gening and other issues.

Or.. "fixing" ghoul makes his value proposition lower and him being new means more money. We see this with new killers all the time.

Yup, that's what I said at the start of my paragraph.

When it comes to media though, oh boy, I strongly agree with you. I really tried to find any video talking positively about the anti-tunnel and slugging stuff and the closest I got was Scott Jund. Even creators who I had watched in the past for survivor content were negative.

  • I don't think they inherently favour one side overall.

The cynic in me could buy that Ghoul was left as is for so long because of licensing but then why are they only just getting to reworking Myers? We also have Pig, Ghost Face and Onryo who aren't in a great spot either. The only line of thinking that makes sense and doesn't attribute malice to BHVR's intentions is that fixing the Ghoul is more complicated than we think it is.

I like the idea of the LoS change to camping and I can't see much wrong with it. There's no way you could *accidentally* trigger it long enough for it to hurt killers who aren't actively camping.

I will say that ever since the PTB with the anti-tunnel and anti-slugging changes was announced, I've experienced vastly more tunnelling and slugging from killers. Like it was already bad, now it's a miracle to go a single game without one or the other happening.

Which suffice to say is not improving my general sentiment towards the devs decisions at the moment.

Always seems to happen when they put a large nerf on the PTB. I remember when Dead Hard was getting reworked, suddenly it appeared on every survivor load out. It's like people feel the need to capitalise on something "before it's gone".

That being said, I've also noticed an increase in BMing behaviour from some killers, not just the use of a strategy, but the humping and hitting on hook. Not much that can be done about it though.

Except in reality the killer que is super unhealthy right now. You have close to a 50/50 split of killers to survivors playing when you need 25/75 half of you could quit and the game would literally be in a better spot... Why do you think they are rolling out play while you wait? I've never had to wait as a survivor games que basically instantly while it does seem bad waiting 3-5 mins for a killer game is really really bad and points to a dying game. But you can clearly see it's not the player base is still huge. But to many people are giving up on survivor game play especially when playing alone.

What server do you play on? I'm on EU servers and quite often during peak times (late afternoon/evenings) killer has a BP incentive (excluding 2v8 where survivor always has the 5X).

Maybe it's different where you're at but queue times have never been an issue for me, I wait longer to find a match in Overwatch than DbD.

  • Its almost impressive how many inaccurate statements you managed to cram into one post.

half used or not, if they dont want to use it. fine. and if they do, congratulations everyone is happy.

Ok, let's say they do add comms, that is undeniably a huge buff for survivors. In response, survivors would almost definitely receive compensatory nerfs or killers pretty much across the board will get buffed...

Now as time goes on, more issues come up with people being toxic so more and more people just opt out of using the voice chat. However, because it's still part of the game, the survivor nerfs/killer buffs remain, even though many people aren't going to be using VC so for those people, the game will undeniably become more difficult.

I'm also European, we have many people who speak different languages on our servers. That's not an issue for DbD right now, but if we add VC with the expectation of it being a buff for non-grouped survivor play, it won't end up working. So even if everyone in the region were dedicated, non-toxic and effective at communicating in their language, it wouldn't benefit us. We would just be stuck with whatever balancing changes they'd make as a result of VC and the once in a blue moon match where people actually understand each other.

  • Been feeling the same way but about both roles tbh. Matchmaking just seems to not work at all.

  • I really hope the MMR rework does something for the quality of my games. I've been having a miserable time on both roles.

  • You're right was how that post was meant to start, mobile seems to have deleted the second word, apologies

  • You're, there are also plenty of killers who just give up and wait by an exit gate to end the game. That's also an issue I hope gets addressed. I also hope lobby dodging, perk switching and such also get addressed but that's not what this thread was about.

As for the "I must know" thing, obviously I can't know, just like you can't know that they're doing it for completely reasonable reasons. Maybe trapper is an unfun killer, but still, I can't see it warranting several games in which the first survivor goes next, unless almost every game has a survivor with some emergency going on in the background.

So yeah, hope that covers your whataboutism adequately so we can go back to the actual topic.

So then 75% of the playerbase is entitled children, so we are doomed regardless in your view.

It does surprise me just how little compassion and how deeply tribalism has taken hold. "It MUST be that the other side is out to get me, there's no other possible explanation."

Likewise, imagine how little compassion someone must have as an individual to queue up to a game knowing that if they don't like the killer or if they get found first, or any other reason, they'll ruin it for the other four people.

You added an entire second paragraph. You can check your original post because I quoted it when I responded to you in this message:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3940976#Comment_3940976

You are adding a tired and disproven killer talking point that survivors give up because of non-game related, immature reasons. This is simply just not true for the majority of cases. If you would have had that in your post originally, I would have talked about it. But in editing afterwards, my response will now be taken out of context. Thankfully, I noticed.

I'm only going to speak from my own experience because that's all I can do. I've had people give up instantly because either I've found them first, they don't like the killer I was playing or the wind blew the wrong way. How do I know this? Because they didn't give me the opportunity to even think about camping, tunneling or whatever. Must be because I play a meta killer then, right? No. It's happened to me as one perk Trapper, as no slowdown Wraith, Billy despite constantly bonking into walls (seriously, I suck as Billy).

To argue that "survives give up because non-game related, immature reasons" has been in any way disproven implies that you know the mentality of every single person who has ever "gone next" and that none of them have ever done so out of non-game related, immature reasons. Somehow I doubt that to be the case.

  • @I_Cant_Loop said:

So what is the point here? If the kill rate is artificially high due to going next, that means that the kill rate in “real” matches where survivors actually try is lower than the 60% reported average. So to keep the target 60% kill rate, killers would need to be buffed and/or survivors nerfed. That would seem to go against the preferred narrative for a lot of folks here…

I think that's the insinuation, yes.

  • I recently started again, no teachables or anything and have been slowly going through every character in order. People will literally give up on first hook against anything that slightly inconveniences them, whether it's agitation only Trapper or adept Wraith attempts.

Frankly if the game is that unbearable to play that even objectively weak killers with little to no perks are reason enough to "go next", maybe it's time that the people who are routinely giving up move on and find something else to play.
