  • As someone who actually plays a ton of skull merchant those kill rates should not be taken as a representation of her strength. They are very misleading. I would say I get survivors killing themselves on hook, just running up to me because they want out, or dc’ing once every 3 games, maybe even every other game sometimes. So those kill rates are extremely skewed.

  • Compared to most killers she’s one of the weaker ones for early game with all pallets still up. You’d also get faster condemn stacking spending that time differently. Also running ring drawing means you’re giving up bloody fingernail which is an unreasonable drop to me. Also allowing them to cleanse that extra condemn even faster than normal at the start since they’ve already got the tapes in hand counteracting the extra spread you got from ring drawing, even if you do get those early downs. Just so much more negative here with so much more risk for probably not more return and definitely less return when we realize the addon slot given up for all this.

I think the auras are straight up not necessary. There is a visual effect that shows the radius of the TVs. The auras are just on top of it. They should not be there.

    In terms of addons:

I proposed an addon pass months ago. Two times to be exact. The addons, where the TVs give oblivious and blindness (seasoaked cloth and rickety pinwheel) should just be reworked. Sadako is demanifested 90% of a match. Oblivious is completely useless on her.

In terms of purples, the tape editing deck is incredibly strong in the right hands and combined with ring drawing. With all the others, I absolutely agree. They are horrible and should have been reworked months ago.

What makes you like Tape Editing Deck?

To me it’s just making the survivors take less time to remove stacks since you’ve saved them an extra step. So you’re essentially taking a negative, just to see auras for a little on tape drop off. Just sounds meh to me. I’d rather just run remote control for better info with no negative.

  • The TVs being shown to survivors is kind of a double edged sword too. I like that it helps new players find TVs, but it ruins surprise teleports completely where you would’ve caught them off guard.

Most the addons that apply a status effect in a range are too short. Bump them up to 12 meters.

    Her purples are all bad.

    Iri tape is just awful.

Her passive effects of manifested/demanifested are also so insignificant that you could almost bake all those addons into it at base and give something new to them. This would make the disappearing/reappearing a little more reliable as anti loop.

  • Yes. It’s already common now. This will just incentivize it even more.

Personally I currently side with @radiantHero23.

I believe Sadako is not far away from the Pig currently, and only edged out really by the nastiness that Pig exerts with scream builds for head pops. As such Sadako maaaaybe is a little on the weaker side comparatively, but it wouldn't take much to push her into overpowered/obnoxious territory, so one has to be very careful suggesting buffs for her.

I'm not 100% sure she needs a buff, but if she does, she doens't need a big one.

If we're looking at addding back a passive condemn build up on her tapes, this would porbably help a lot of players… but I wouldn't have add it and leave it as strong as it used to be (1 condemn every 25s) in conjunction with the global TV condemn. Some buffs I would support on her:

    • Tape retrieve/insert time upped from 1s to 1.5-2s.
    • Passive condemn brought back onto tapes at 1 condemn every 30s (originally 1 condemn on pickup and 1 condemn every 25s).
    • Buffs to several add-ons, notably Welstone, VCR, Tape Editing Deck, but a genereal add-on tune up wouldn't be a bad move.

With additions of passive condemn back to video tapes, when combined with global condemn it becomes too strong. As such I would introduce these additional changes: -

    • Teleports to a TV will afflict any survivor within 16m range of that TV with 0.5 condemn directly.
    • Teleports to a TV will afflict any survivor within 16m range of any powered TV with 0.5 condemn globally. This is in addition to the condemn granted by the direct teleport.
    • Survivors on different elevations to the powered TV will not be affected by the global TV 0.5 condemn.

This would make her condemn a little less punishing vs. newbies not grabbing tapes, but more rewarding for good Sadako teleports, while also introducing a risk vs. reward element to grabbing tapes. If you grab a tape you must be sure to deal with it… when combined with the lock in condemn effect, this would all be quite potently rewarding for good Sadako play.

I’d rather not passive condemn as that’s being given for free. I’d rather something that rewards skillful play. So destruction of tape on hit again. This only gives me value if I’m able to play well and land a hit. A condemn stack on successful tape destruction to give some danger of just sitting on a tape. Currently there’s no down side.

Also to keep incentivizing hooking instead of slugging I feel Ring Drawing should be base kit. Given the above change just make it on hooks period since they wouldn’t have a tape now.

"To me if a killer doesn’t have an equally “fair” chance of winning against a 4 man sweat squad on coms I view them as bad."

Ok, then most killers in this game are bad at your standarts. Your absolutely entitled to your opinion, but I personally disagree heavily.

I know that wins dont tell a story, but then lets take a look at singularity. A killer that is considered to be pretty strong overall. Public matches however tell an entirely different story. According to the majority of players, singularity is pretty bad and needs buffs and quality of life improvements.

In regards to Sadako, the only thing I can provide is my experience playing her for literally thousands of hours. Thats what I base my opinions on.

Yes I would say most killers are bad. I don’t care about winning against bad players, I care about having a fair chance against equally good people on coms since that’s what you run into much more common at higher mmr.
I disagree about Singularity. Most people think he is very strong, which he is. What most people want is heavy QoL because of his clunkyness, not necessarily buffs.

    A killer that:

    • is downright busted on one map
    • can kill survivors without hooking them
    • has one of the best map mobilities in the game
    • has weak but sometimes effective anti-loop
    • can ignore body blocks
    • has slowdown build in
    • is one of the best m1 killers (small, dark and quiet)
    • can negate her red stain in chase
    • has amazing synergy with good perks in the game

Is not trash for me. I win most of my taches as her. I play her since she came out and fought for a second rework after the defeat that Sadako 2.0 was.

I think this comes down to what your strandarts and expectations are when playing a killer. If your standart is something at the strenght like Wesker, surely Sadako is a little underwhelming.

Im a Pig main. I love Sadako for her unique gameplay and the strategic character of her power. I absolutely that learning her is not for everyone, because it involves less mechanical and more strategic skill. But calling her unplayably bad is downright wrong.

I would love to share footage of how I play her, but since some people here on the forum have gotten downright nasty towards me doing this, i will not do it again. Its not worth it just to be jelled at or insulted.

Either you take my word for it as someone that has played her since release and was 4th on public leaderboards on steam (right now 20th spot because I refused to play Sadako 2.0). Or you dont.

I never called her unplayable bad. As far as comparing to Wesker yeah than we agree she is underwhelming. Most people would put Wesker in A tier. In dbd anything below A tier is generally bad as even B tier requires the survivors to make many mistakes for you to win, regardless of how well you play. Anything that relies on survivors making mistakes I view as underwhelming. To me if a killer doesn’t have an equally “fair” chance of winning against a 4 man sweat squad on coms I view them as bad. Sadako does have some pluses to her, I just feel like you make them sound better than they are. Her “anti loop” in most cases does not work against good players for example. Quietest is also a large stretch as her being around is extremely telegraphed by sound. “Can kill survivors without hooking them”, yeah if they ignore your mechanics. Pigs party hats are gonna kill them too if they just sit on a gen with it ticking down because they don’t know what’s going on. I just feel like a lot of this is making something sound way better on paper than it is in reality. I can tell I’m not going to change your mind though and that’s okay.

You can do well on her in most games, I’m not saying otherwise. What I am saying is that it’s usually because most people are just playing bad on average or don’t understand her mechanics still. Like even though I went on 100 win streak with Pig I’m not under the delusion that Pig is “good”. Wins don’t tell the whole story.

  • I've always thought they have been missing serious potential not tapping into more monsters as well. It would open up lots more licenses as well.

Yeah a theory I have is that people do in fact believe they are being tunneled a lot but they actually don't fully understand what tunneling is. They aren't lying or anything, they just don't really know better.

Yeah I agree with this. They don't understand what tunneling actually is.

  • Worst? Definitely not.

    Pretty bad though? Yeah.

Everyones definition of "bad" in DBD is different though.

  • Make it 30 second cd on Oppression.

Thrilling give it no cooldown and the block needs to last longer.

Personally I'd rather move away from skill check type perks. They do the opposite of design we want. They punish newer players harder and are useless against good players.

Instead rework Oppression. Make it equalize the progress between all remaining gens. So if you kick a gen at 80 seconds progress it evenly splits the progress between that gen and the remaining ones. So it doesn't actually do any regressing per say.

I felt the fact I was being hyperbolic when I said "free" was pretty clear so I guess we're even.

Getting back on topic, I will once again reiterate that I agree that Sadako's power is underwhelming- as I have already said. I just think the statement that OP and others have made - that they think the power is not functioning - comes from an expectation that the power ought to reliably be usable to bypass the core mechanic of hook states, which I think is unhealthy for the game. Furthermore, I think the assertion that her power "doesn't function" is equally hyperbolic to my saying that people want a "free" mori. I can only speculate why you objected to my use of hyperbole and not the OP's

"that the power ought to reliably be usable to bypass the core mechanic of hook states, which I think is unhealthy for the game"

I fundamentally disagree. That's what makes playing as and against her actually feel like a unique experience. Far too many killers are nearly the same with a different coat of paint thrown on. It's so different playing Onryo from anything else.

" Furthermore, I think the assertion that her power "doesn't function" is
equally hyperbolic to my saying that people want a "free" mori. I can
only speculate why you objected to my use of hyperbole and not the OP's"

    That's an easy answer.

"Free" is just objective hyperbole with no merit.

"Power not functioning", while full of hyperbole as well, actually has "some" merit. That merit being you're generally never getting Condemn unless they're already dead on hook or just playing really, really badly.

The point being "free" doesn't have a point because it's never the case, while "power not functioning" has one, even if it's exaggerated, because the core point behind it, is that the power is weak. Which it is.

  • If you accept defeat, submit, and give yourself to me. I'll give hatch. So come to me + drop your item if you have it. If you're running from me and looking for hatch that's a hook.

I'll also give hatch if they had an early dc or someone gave up.

Also swf or styptic/syringe is a no hatch as well since it wasn't a fair game to begin with.

I'm also less likely to give hatch if I'm on a low tier killer since I feel like if I won I definitely deserve my kills.

I mean yeah it's not great but its better than a lot of people give it credit for & I think the only reason it seems so bad is people want the condemn to = a free mori at 0 hooks

No, they want a mori that doesn't require 2 hooks, as at that point the mori is irrelevant. Also, the word "free" is disingenuous. You know it's not free.

  • @ratcoffee said:

If you think of only the potential that condemn has as an offensive weapon and ignore the passive slowdown, maybe.

Also a global tp isn't bad

A mediocre passive slow down and a tp that survivors can control. That's it.

Does that sound good to you? Or fun for that matter.

  • @ratcoffee said:

The devs clearly don't want moris that bypass hook stages to be a weapon Killers use, they want it to be a punishment for survivors that mess up royally. Current tombstone nonwithstanding, they've been actively trying to prevent play styles based around giving people fewer hooks to work with without giving survivors meaningful ways of preventing it. Honestly I agree with that philosophy. The game was made with 3 hook states in mind, a mori at 0-1 hook states bypasses this core balance consideration

The problem is she has nothing else.

I'm sorry to say this, but what you keep saying is still false-

They removed the cool down on Condemn gain shortly after her rework and you can 100% spam Condemn on the survivors. I had a friend help me test it and he got fully Condemned right away at the start of a custom game just by me spamming TVs.

Also she has basekit anti-loop with pallets. Due to the fact that she can bloodlust while Demanifested again where she has stun immunity from pallets and Head On she can safely chase you around pallets without any care at all and, ever since her semi-recent buff, she doesn't suffer any penalty for doing this now since she no longer becomes slower than a survivor while she is in the middle of Manifesting. In other words, she has base-kit anti-loop.

You are correct though about her stealth just being plain bad. Her lullaby isn't always the most noticeable of things unless you have a very good headset and cranked your game volume up pretty high, but with the Visual Terror Radius being in the game her stealth just gets completely destroyed into pieces then thrown out the window because a lot of people play with that setting on now and even if you can't hear her lullaby you'll just see the Visual Terror Radius pop up the instant you're in her lullaby range. If they were to swap out the Blindness effect on Mindbreaker with the Deafened status effect instead then this problem would be fixed by that perk(which is a decent perk for stealth killers anyways) since Deafened makes it to where all audio is muted essentially which, theoretically, should bypass the Visual Terror Radius setting and would just mute her lullaby.

Calling her Demanifest anti loop..is a stretch at best. Base kit Endurance isn't anti loop and that's also ignoring the fact that you still need to Manifest, it's not just break the pallet and hit. If you're bloodlusting at loops you're losing already. You can't afford chases long enough to where you're bloodlusting. Her Demanifest "anti loop" is F tier if you were comparing it. I would say for us to even call it anti loop is a bit disingenuous, it's that bad.

  • Being told the killer is seeing your aura defeats a large point of seeing your aura in the first place. This would stop most people from even using aura perks.

You should want killers to use aura perks. Making your change would just make everyone stack more gen slow down. The game needs to make non gen related perks for killer look more lucrative so we can steer away from gen slow down stacking. Your change is going the total opposite direction.

  • If you’d like to elaborate why we can go into examples. I see that above you put her in C tier, C tier in dbd is trash tier. I’d argue C tier is generous anyway though.

  • I wish they'd shrink it a bit, but also spread the gens better so they aren't as stacked. Like stick a couple more over on the theater side.

Well the system itself that puts together people of similar skill is flawed because of it works with soft cap to mmr, therefore creating uneven matches often times, considering backfilling and max queue times and such. That thing could be better but is hardly possible due to way too long queue times and what not being the result.

However to only take escapes and deaths into account is way too flat. You could loop the killer for 5 gens, get hooked right next to Noed and did there, you would still lose mmr despite carrying the whole game. There are just so many factors that make a good player that are ignored in benefit of this easier system, which makes it so that in conclusion:

    A. High mmr does not really mean anything because of the soft cap enabling players of a wider mmr range to get matched

    B. Deaths or escapes are way too flat of a measurement to determine skill, especially in this type of game.

    C. Skill does not necessarily mean that you have a high mmr, the best players in the game don't really use the regular matchmaking but play scrims most of the time. And on the other hand having a high mmr does not mean you are good at the game. (ofc the question is how high, if you are nearing the hard cap that not even cheater bots could get over you are probably doing something right, but no human gets there anyway so whatever)

    D. Items, addons, perks, maps and offerings and the killer choice are not taken into account at all, invalidating the death or escape result even more.

    E. Skill =/= high mmr, as mmr in this game is not able to properly determine skill

The closest thing we have to determine in this game to know whether or not a player is skilled are 1v1 scrims, however the mmr system is mostly useless for that purpose. In the 1v1 setting the conditions for everyone are roughly the same, different map rng excluded, as this cannot be fixed. So the data we get through that is somewhat more reliable compared to what the mmr system does.

This entire post is just pointing out why mmr in flawed in DBD. Yes, I know mmr is flawed in DBD. As I said in my last post, that doesn't detract from my point. Just because it is heavily flawed doesn't mean it "generally speaking" doesn't work. It does, even with all the flaws. I'd totally love to do away with mmr and I think we could make the matchmaking way better with changes but that doesn't change the point as well.

    Skill = High MMR

Even though it's flawed, a skilled player will on average still be reaching high mmr.

Just because the best comp players mainly do scrims doesn't mean there isn't a majority of high tier sweat squads on coms in high mmr. There are many, many players as good as comp players that just simply don't do comp because they don't like it.

  • @Archol123 said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3697647#Comment_3697647

Thats what it should be but not what it is... People who are good at the game usually want to get chased and therefore oftentimes end up dead to Noed or bad teammates. As everybody knows the mmr system is unable to properly tell skill by just looking at kills or escapes, so your assumption is wishful thinking at best.

Saying it's flawed and that it doesn't work at all are two different statements. I think you're conflating the two.

  • @AbsolutGrndZer0 said:

I did it, but I think it was kind of bare bones… You got the right idea with that one question of bodyblocking with endurance but… as someone who plays both sides, I can't tell you how many times I've been accused of tunneling when I just happened to run across the same survivor 30 seconds later on a generator…. Is that really tunneling? Am I supposed to go "Oh, well you just got off hook, so I will let you finish that generator."

    This ^ x100

People scream tunneling way, way more than it's actually happening. Coincidentally running into the same person isn't tunneling.

  • good = skill =higher mmr

Through enough experience you know what levels of skill look like.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3696896#Comment_3696896

How would you know it is like that? We don't have any data about it... That's just guessing. Nobody knows what's their mmr and with backfilling and so on you can never know the mmr of the people you have, especially with the soft cap.

Wishful thinking, but I don't think it works like that.

Because after 10k+ hours I have a pretty good measurement of who's good and who's not. That's about as good as you're going to get with sample sizes.

The first and third point wouldn‘t work together, but yes shure.

"Just make it work when you hook a survivor period."

  • It's not your imagination. Her last rework left her in garbage tier. The Condemn in its current state is near useless bar a little bit of slow down. While at the same time having no anti loop, not a real stealth killer and the survivors control her map mobility. It's bad.

  • My pet peeve as well. They always go to the main building gen first and hurt us all.

  • They've already said for technical reasons that they cannot have more than 2 zombies.

  • We don't need to be buffing a perk that's already in the top 10 used perks. It's still extremely good.

  • I do like the idea of more skill expression in the game or simply the knowledge of "techs" you can do to your advantage, my only issue is the lack of counter play. If there was realistic counter play to this I'd be totally fine with it.

  • I wish they'd stop nerfing stuff and focus more on buffing all the bad perks.

  • Well even ignoring the multitude of anti slug perks that could have made a serious difference in this, y'all made many mistakes.

  • They really need to killswitch OTR till this is fixed. More and more people are finding out about this and I'm starting to see it abused in multiple games.

  • Totally agree.

    Changes to fix her:

    1. Ring Drawing base kit - This rewards and incentivizes hooking. Just make it work when you hook a survivor period.
    2. Unlimited lock in - If they're greedy they should be punished for it
    3. Destroy tapes on hit - This has dual purpose. One it prevents the scenario in the video above where they deposit the tape in your face and it also creates dynamic and skilled game play as now after you break someones tape you'll have to make immediate decisions. Should I continue chase because I built his condemn high and I want to lock him in or should I go for that other guy to break his tape because I don't want him to drop stacks. This raises the skill ceiling.

This isn't even going into her addons that are a total mess but she at least needs this other stuff for her base kit to function.

  • This would be an apocalypse if it was removed. Not exaggerating. Everyone would leave over even the slightest inconvenience, killer they didn't like, or just as soon as they started to lose. Why not? Nothing to lose. People don't like playing with bots either.

This would be a complete disaster. I literally cannot see even a single positive coming from this.

  • It is super annoying when this happens and has no real counter play.

  • @ProudRinMain said:

@Blueberry i want some of her add-ons buffed and some qol changes like :

1- The chase music starts dying down when reaching halfway through the power activation part where she does the twitchy hands thing and as a result, by the time she fully charges her power, the chase music is gone. I hope i conveyed what i wanted to say right 😅

2- She should see her own passive phasing just like how survs see her so she can kind of use that for mind gaming purposes.

    Add-on buffs/rework examples:

    1- Mother’s glasses ( rework )

    2- kintsugi teacup ( buff )

3- Uchiwa ( rework ) as it’s heavily dependent on the survivors for it work , they can just pre drop pallets and make it useless

4- Dried cherry blossom ( rework , very uninteresting add-on ) and work on creating accessibility options for both sides without giving more advantage to players with normal hearing , just something that hard of hearing players can work with.

    5- Wakizashi saya ( rework )

6- revert the changes made to duration add-ons, super unnecessary -_-

Also, omg hiii!!! My fav blueberry 🫐😂

    Haha hey buddy!

I agree with most your thoughts here, especially the issues related to phase duration and recovery. I've always thought since her release that she should see her own phasing to give more potentials for mind games. This isn't something most Spirits would be able to utilize but would increase her skill ceiling for players looking to put the time in.

She definitely has a few addons post rework that you've kind of pointed towards that are kind of gimmiky and not quite practical that could use some improvements. I've always disliked Cherry Blossom. I understand the need for accessibility so I don't know how they'd get around this, but it's current form is typically used to just remove all skill from playing her.

I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I liked how her old version had survivors baiting sound to mislead her and make her react incorrectly. That's just not a thing anymore. I used to love facing her as it required higher skill levels, but now it's just super basic and requires very, very little.

But while even a top tier survivor playing solo will not get 3 other top tier survivors when queueing you as the killer have it in your hands to become a top tier pub stomped... Because matchmaking won't find people on your level… she is more than strong enough for pub games.

My argument was that if she performs that well under the comp circumstances she will perform even better in pub games, so none of those she is weak arguments fit. I didn't advocate for her in a comp setting... I just said she is strong enough that if you know what you are doing you can basically 4k almost every match, because a. She is a strong killer and b. Matchmaking is God awful. And will not give you players of equal or similar skill once you ve reached a certain level.

I never said Spirit was weak.

The options aren’t comp or solo queue. You can be in regular pub matches with your 3-4 mans on coms. That’s the most common matches at high mmr. While mmr does throw random potatoes here and there it is “generally” still giving you high tier players and mostly swf at high tiers.

  • Yeah I feel like they are removing a lot of uniqueness in killers and trying to homogenize them too much. Too many killers are played against exactly the same.

A lot of killers have too low of skill ceilings as well for how much return you get.

  • It’s balanced as a 1v1v1v1v1 but in reality it’s a 1v4, hence where all the balance problems come from. It needs to be balanced as a 1v4.

  • @Archol123 said:

However it means when you play killer you play more consistently than with 3 strangers that can be all over the place from the perspective of skill.

I dont know about that recovery thing... Debatable at best.

Except it’s not strangers, you pick your 4 man on coms, because remember you were talking top tier best vs best, not average solo queue games. That’s the balance metric you wanted.

  • I haven’t seen a 4K at 5 gens in hundreds of games of solo queue. Quite rare. This sounds like the matchmaking just may have been off. To not even get one gen before a 4K when in most games it’s 2-3 gens completed before 1 hook, those survivors had to be playing way, way worse than the killer.

From that standpoint the restrictions are necessary to somewhat balance it out.

Wreckers is still an overall decent map... Debateable if it favors killers, it has great loops and some of them lead nicely into shack creating strong setups.

Spirits power is mostly about chase, especially basekit, sure you can run speed and recharge/duration to use it more for map mobility but then you suffer quite a big cooldown, which usually is not worth it unless used in short bursts.

You as killer player are the sole person on your side of the team, which makes it so you can get better, you are not relying on matchmaking to give you decent teammates... Spirit is the 3rd best killer in the game and if you want to buff her just because you don't want to put time in her then I see no reason for that... Even if you are not a comp level spirit, if you spend some time learning her with how bad matchmaking is you will win the majority of your games.

I never said I’d buff Spirit..

Also just because the killer is solo and the survivors are four doesn’t change the fact that it’s a 1v4 game, not a 1v1v1v1v1. You can’t control your teammates but that’s irrelevant. The game is balanced around your team making mistakes. The survivors are able to recover from many more mistakes than killers are.

It indicates her maximum potential, it is more about what she does in chase and not about her map mobility.

Spirit is a killer with a lot of potential you just need to put in the effort to get good with her. And if you don't want to do that, that is kind of your choice, but don't complain that the killer is weak then when she clearly is not.

Also I would not call maps like Wreckers yard or so extremely killer favored... And restrictions limit both sides.

That’s disingenuous as there’s “significantly” more restrictions placed on the survivors and wreckers yard “is” one of the most favorable killer maps in the roster. Saying it’s about chase and not map mobility is also inaccurate as map pressure plays a huge part in whether they’re good or not.

If we really wanna talk only maximum potential and getting better at the game then that’s opening a whole other can worms. If we’re gonna use that frame of reference then swf is completely imbalanced and 95% of the killer roster needs massive buffs. By this frame we wouldn’t be caring about solo queue nor the average player.

    That is fair.

Though I do have to admit there are some killers I have to laugh at the thought of them getting stuck with bots as they kinda deserve it.

Like today my first game was a Spirit that camped the first survivor then tunnelled them at 5 gens, so I just let them hook me and went next while everyone else DC'd so they were left in the game with 3 bots lol.

I mean I’m sure there’s scenarios like that. I play a good bit of SM and I don’t think it’s fair to punish someone because of the killer they chose to play, that’s not fair to them. I don’t even tunnel or camp at all and I only run 1 slow down. So I play pretty dang nice.

If you play against a good spirit you are not looping her, you can drop God pallets and loop those, but everything else will result in her getting the hit... We have seen this in many comp games. She is one of the strongest killers in the game and is completely fine as she is.

So comp Spirit on an extremely killer favored map with survivor perk restrictions and just tunneling someone out asap is representative of most matches against Spirit or Spirits balance as a whole?
