I'm going to play normally since I was not at all impressed about Demogorgon gameplay on PTR. I think he is too weak and I will wait for first round of buffs.
-
Maybe part of the issue is the matchmaker that repeatedly puts me against people that top me by 10+ ranks and have all the perks/items while Im playing a lvl <10 killer; but thinking about Demo analytically I just don't see much any good points. What does it have, that is better than what other killers have? The answer is pretty much nothing.
I don't think I've even noticed there is some stealth thing going on after using portal, since a SWF group will always see/hear me coming. Are Its heavy footsteps audible during stealth period? Or maybe its just because It is a huge white monkey.
The portals go down in moments everywhere so I can't really benefit from the abyss-radar (which lets me detect survivors near activated portals) - and even if I did successfully detect survivors somewhere on the map, they can destroy the portal before I have chance to get there. The travel is so goddamn slow.
I already uninstalled PTB since Demo is just an exercise in frustration.

Im a ps4 player so I don't have access to the PTB. And curious as to how Demogorgon is shaping up I saw some gameplay with cool chase music. Design wise he seems really cool, but how is the killer himself preforming in terms of viability?
D is terrible. I hope devs buff it before release.

Demogorgon is garbage. See further details at the PTB thread. I bet doubleposting is somehow wrong.

This.
IS.
NOT
REWORK
-
As a killer main I wanted Legion reworked in order to make the matches more fun. Instead the devs nerfed everything to the ground and replaced it with nothing. A M1 killer with special ability "handicap yourself", why would you play this? This must be one of the most mind-bogglingly stupid changes Ive seen in video gaming during the 24 years Ive played them.
I understood the frustration the survivors had, but I also wanted to play Legion because of their looks and cosmetics. I am not going to.
-
This "rework" looks completely astounding. Like they made Legion a blank killer with no ability? Why would use the ability at all? I wanted them to rework Legion so I could enjoy playing them with the different cosmetics, but this.... doesn't look like a rework. Sure the ability may have been a mistake in the first place, but at least replace it with something other than "you can shoot yourself in the foot during chase".
On top of this the recent score changes seem to have changed something for the worse. Im now consistently not pipping with 3 sacrifices at R15.
On top of this the absolutely stupid Spirit (my main killer) sound change which makes no sense what so ever.
On top of this DBD crashed while starting a match. Rare occurrence.
I think its about time to put DBD away for a while.

Just when I thought I saw everything, a Bill player started jumping into the hatch and suddenly stopped when they heard me go for the grab which turned it into a basic strike allowing him to jump in freebie.
Maybe they happened to have a lag spike at that exact moment? I don't think it can be anything else. The bug mentioned above shouldn't do anything since striking the jumping survivor doesnt interrupt the jump..

Basically in order to make designs that encourage skillful play I need to know what that even means. In order to do that I need to know in a broad sense what exactly makes a good player better than a bad (but not stupid) player. Since none of the individual actions are particularly hard to do it isn't really obvious.
I personally consider mind games to be the best kind of pvp conflict, since mechanical precision based gameplay means there is a point where you can win regardless of what the other player does, whereas with mind games there is always an action to counter any other action thus requiring predictions.
Strategy is a bit different but is generally the same idea but on a larger scale.
However none of these are obviously emphasized across the board, especially for survivors. Some killers have different emphasis (Spirit = Mind games, Trapper/Hag = Strategy, Nurse/Huntress = Mechanical Precision. Not saying these killers exclusively do these things, just that they emphasize them) but for example a killer like Freddy or Wraith I'm not sure how you would go about improving.
And survivors just seem to be: Find gen, hold M1 until the killer comes to you or hooks someone, if the killer finds you run in loops, if someone is hooked save them if no one else is and if the killer is gone.
None of that is particularly hard outside of mindgames in a chase and the initial map memorization
Every killer and survivor benefits from mindgames. Even the pallet loop is a form of mindgame since killer can change direction. Some killers get better rewards from succeeding at mindgame though, namely nurse and Spirit. Both have ultra-strong movement abilities which can nearly always net you a hit if you can just predict where the survivor will run when they are out of sight.
This ability to predict survivor movements is what I consider the most important skill for killers. Same applies in reverse, if survivor can predict killer they can escape. Sure playing nurse involves mechanical skill and experience by knowing exactly how long you need to hold the blink and how far you need to blink in order to land between specific obstacles etc. But its the prediction thats important imo.
Èven nurse vs survivor in open space can be a mindgame, survivor can run toward the nurse when they notice nurse charging blink, and nurse can blink at the ground, in place, and net a hit. Or they can guess the others going to do that and do the opposite.. So on and so forth.
Whenever a killer mindgame exists, the survivor can succeed in it as well by predicting what the killer will do.

You meant: "Fix your matchmaking system".
Ranking system is fine.
Also: I'd imagine the issue is "survive with friends". (It always is)
Nothing preventing a high-rank survivor teaming up with their low-rank friend.
-
The problem is not whether its a 4K, or whether a survivor can escape. The problem is that the standoff is a lose-lose situation for the killer. Either I do the staredown and we just stand there forever, or I SURRENDER and let them escape. The mechanic needs to be changed in a way that removes the STANDOFF.
If there is a hatch and the survivor is there, if you hit the survivor (as you are theoretically supposed to do) you lose and the survivor escapes. Its just mind-bogglingly stupid how this has persisted so long. Please devs, help us out.
ps. Sorry for derailing the thread.
-
Spirit is not a crappy version of nurse.
Ultimately I see two options: a stealthy killer (like the Pig) or a movement ability killer (like the nurse, Billy etc).
I guess possibility exists to have both in one (like the spirit). I really wish its going to be a movement ability killer as those are top tier almost always.
-
I haven't used NOED in ages with my main killers. When I did use it, it was as a crutch perk against gen rushing in order to get some hooks at all. Since killer situation and game balance has improved tremendously since then, I don't feel the need to run NOED at all.
-
When I don't feel like participating in the stupid hatch standoff, I just patrol away from the hatch until they go in.
-
Im torn between the nurse and the spirit. Both for similar reasons:
- spooky, supernatural girls
- Movement power and way to break the loop
- surprise grabs/hits
- mind games
-
I normally don't give any sort of mercy... But there was one time, where the survivor team was so grandmother-level clueless that I took pity on them. I carried the last survivor to the hatch and dropped them on it.
-
As a killer main, I'm seeing a lot of disconnections these days indeed (Im playing spirit). Usually from someone who first tries to use every cheese in the book, and when that fails, they DC. :/ Sometimes they don't DC but suicide on the hook.
Since I get bonus points from someone DCing, I dont mind. Its enough to be noticeable, but not enough to be disruptive. Must look different from survivor standpoint though.
Im confused though: how is killer gameplay "awful"? I thought survivors were fed up with all the nerfs and killers being OP and stuff. Yet it seems that there is no shortage of survivors. Personally I've never had as easy time playing killer as I do these days.
-
"2.) The teaser has the killer's torso covered by smoke. They could've just had the arm protruding from the edge of the photo and the smoke going inwards but a choice was made to cover the body with the smoke."
Maybe its the "Thing" from Addams family and its just a hand xD
ps. Also: Smoking kills XD
-
What is the context of the question? Did someone say this game is difficult? Are you referring the difficulty levels in the killers profiles? What?
This is a PVP game where you play against other human beings. Therefore the difficulty is directly proportional to the skill of the person on the other side. You may have easier time because you yourself are that much more skilled than your opponent..

My problem is not the hatch.
My issue is the stalemate.
I cannot find the survivor at lvl 1 because the lack of tracking perks.
I cannot quit the game without losing my progress to get tracking perks.
All I can do is either stand on the hatch or patrol the gen/map and hope to find the last survivor, only to be tbagged at the hatch, because now that he has found the hatch, the survivor don't simply leaves, but wants to tease me.
It's just overall frustrating and time wasting.
If I at least can say, ok. you win, I let you go. Don't waste my time anymore, just give me my points and I can move on. If you want to immerse yourself further into hiding and stalling the game. all power to you, but I have enough.
I don't like the hatch, no question and I won't lie. But there is not much I can do against it. But at least let me go without losing points.
I got my 3k. I am not crying for a 4k. But if you have a hatch mechanic in play that handholds and enables a lost game for a survivor to escape, let me as the killer just end the game on my terms.
It just sucks to wait until the survivor has the grace to come forth and take the hatch.
At least give me the aura of the survivor so we really have a run for the hatch and not stalling around.
(Why is the quote white so you can't see the text? Why is it not dark background like the rest of the forum)
The thing is, whenever a survivor can sit next to the escape route you can be sure they will wait for the killer and teabag. Killer knows there is nothing they can do about it. In the case of hatch they can even take two hits to go fully dying state because they can escape regardless.
I'm not opposed to survivors having the option to escape via the hatch, what annoys me is that there is no way to prevent the lameness surrounding it. The game should always be fun, engaging and exciting, instead of an exercise in frustration.

That would be copycatting the nurse and I don't think it is happening.
What if the smoke from the censer could obscure the map and turn gens/some other stuff fully invisible to a survivor instead of just negating aura reading perks?
-
More like, they hate wasting any time slowplaying, looking for totems and ****.

Completely forgot the other teaser, this chapter is apparently called "Demise of the faithful". And the continuation to "In time of darkness some look for a light to follow" was "But nothing will help them, not even faith".
Both of these things hint towards Valac imo. Valac originally appears in texts from 1500s so that would satisfy the "oldest by a long shot" claim.
-
Here is the picture I took from the teaser:
That is indeed a censer. Also notice how the chain is wrapped around the hand. And there is some fancy rings in those fingers.
There was a guesswork vid I just watched from a fog whisperer whose name just escapes me this moment, and he had an idea I'm starting to believe.
He implied that the killer might be based on the public domain version of the demon Valac, who is a demon that preys upon the faithful. That is, the same demon as in the movie Conjuring 2 and the Nun, only that this would not be the Nun and instead have an original appearance in order to avoid copyright issues. Valac itself is really old and thus public domain.
-
To answer the topic question: To show that no matter how strong you are, you are still fodder to the killers.
-
The hatch standoff is the biggest grieve I have with the game right now. Its got nothing to do with new player experience indeed and is the exact same regardless of your rank. Its also inherently STUPID.
I personally just let the survivor escape if I can't get an easy 4th kill. I also can't be bothered to spend much effort for that fourth kill by slugging the third survivor. I just want to move on.
