  • Okay, now how about someone do this after him WITHOUT the preferential matchmaking?

Don't get me wrong, I'm in absolute awe at the raw skill displayed at clubbing baby seals with barely 4-500 hours that run into walls because they don't look ahead of themselves and don't work on gens because they are too busy being the next JRM/Ayrun/etc and can't even run in a straight line to efficiently chain strong loops and abuse infinites, etc.

Why do I feel like playing Pig on Red Forest against Hens333 and his squad would yield vastly different results?

Nothing personal against Otz by the way, he is a really cool guy and a pillar of the community we should all aspire to be, but this should not be used to gleam some sort of significant insight. The only thing it actually shows is that SBMM doesn't work and the tippity top MMR killers are regularly fed baby survivors who have absolutely zero business in being the same lobby as them.

If you think Wraith is a perfectly viable Killer show me a single tournament where he 4k-ed, I'll be waiting.

  • Because BVHR doesn't balance the game at all so we have to for ourselves. We can't balance SoloQ, only Killer.

Oh, I go against the same survivors that someone like top 1% Nurse/Blight/Spirit does? Wow, that's really sweet BHVR, too bad I'm nowhere near as good as them and I don't play the broken Killers and I don't tunnel so do the math please.

Oh, what is that? I'm an M1 Killer and the 4 TTV survivors send me to Garden of Pain with each of them starting the trial with a styptic agent? Cute.

And the list goes on and on and on. People love to assume that people want easy games, but I for one want winnable games. I'm perfectly fine losing, but I'm tired of people trying to bully other people when they stacked the deck so far in their favor, it was almost impossible to lose. I never wanted to be high MMR and I absolutely ######### loathe every minute of it, but thanks to how SBMM works (and I use the word work very, very loosely) I'm propelled back the moment I go up against one of those teams that on a stream people would call paid actors. Five to six games of one or two hooks then a 4k. Very fun.

Give us a proper matchmaking and people will dodge a whole lot less.

  • I can't always tell if the survivor just misjudged the time it takes to get out, but occasionally I do have some survivors dying to the EGC. Funnily enough I have personally been given more mercy kills than hatch.

  • Fantastic news, more accessibility is always welcome!

  • The same exact thing that has been done in the past years.

Absolutely nothing and ignoring the problem until it goes away on its own.

Considering the fact that the BHVR dev team has known about this security vulnerability since 2019 and they still haven't patched it out, I don't see this as ever being fixed.

  • Unfortunately, I don't know the technical details of the security leak, only that it is something to do with Steam. Theoretically speaking, it might be possible for you to join a lobby where another player is on Steam and then have your IP address leaked that way. The safest setup would be epic only players in a lobby.

Been using a VPN since the Artist came out and the six occasions on which the servers went down mid-match were all during the time I was playing a killer and winning, never during survivor which I play somewhat more, so...

  • I would love to say that they care about the game...but it looks like they just saw the data with the plummeting active playerbase, the killrates of SM and realized this is not one of the hundreds of issues they can just ignore. So I don't feel like patting them on the back for not jumping off into a cliff.

    • Solving the DDOSing issue that's been in the game since 2019 and every single time it is brought up they sweep it under the rug
    • Implementing working anti-cheating/hacking measures
    • Balancing all killers so that all of them are roughly the same strength
    • Introducing SBMM that turned SoloQ from a frustrating but occasionally awesome experience into a complete misery fest that makes me want to have my wisdom teeth removed again except without anesthesia this rime around
    • Learning from past mistakes and introducing maps that don't have a ridicious amount of easy to chain god tier loops that force M1 killers to break pallets until the gens are done and hope survivors don't abuse infinites
    • Nerfing anti-tunneling perks and introducing killer bullying perks so that both soloq players and low/mid level killers are miserable to the same extent
    • Encouraging 3 genning so that matches boil down to who gets tired first and not who is the more skillful player
  • That would be nice. Instead of:

Nurse, Nurse, Nurse, Blight, Nurse, Nurse, Spirit, Plague, Nurse, Nurse Blight

    We can play against

Nurse, Blight, Nurse, Blight, Nurse, Plague, Nurse, Spirit.

But on a more serious note as long as it's not overdone, a simple no same killer twice would be good. I faced 11 SMs out of my 13 SoloQ games on Monday and only 2 of those progressed to the exit gates being powered. I fully support the notion.

  • God I hope not. The finisher mori idea was one of the worst ones BHVR had and I really do hope they completely scratch that entire concept completely and forever.

  • Pray do tell, why are we pretending in the year of our Lord 2023 that eScape Based MatchMaking is anywhere even close to functional?

I really hate how every month there's a different aspect that people latch onto as to why the games are so ridiculously lopsided. If a system works 0% of the time then it's not [temporary problem] that's causing the issue, but the design of the entire system. Even if you had a magic wand that ensured every single trial was between people with the same exact magical random numerical "skill" value, the end result would be laughably borked.

SBMM doesn't account for: killer, swf/soloq, playstyle (on both ends), perks, items, addons, maps, resource spawn RNG. Literally the most important aspects! Tournaments are basically played on the same 3 maps with incredibly severe restrictions because otherwise even the best Legion player in the world would maybe get 2 hooks if he is lucky.

The numbers don't mean anything and even if they did, which again, they don't, the system just ignores it altogether because the dwindling playerbase can't support 10 second matchmaking.

SBMM doesn't work, it has never worked and will never work, no matter how much people want to blame Killers for not playing Nurse with 10k hours and tunneling the first survivor at five gens with four slowdown perks.

  • Okay, so it's apparently worse than many of us thought.

This is a Steam exclusively security vulnerability that existed since 2019 and the BHVR devs were even told what it is and how it obtains the IP addresses. The company hasn't patched this in 4 years and now they are saying they don't know how it is being done. Which seems to suggest that they don't have the money or the resources to fix it. I guess DBD is now a VPN only game.

    Pretty.

    Good.

    Job.

  • Oh yeah! Like how BHVR nerfed Nurse into the ground because people complained about her!

Or how they nerfed Blight into the ground because people complained about her!

Or nerfed Spirit into the ground because people complained about her!

Or nerfed kill rate to 60% because survivors complained about not escaping often!

Man, those survivor sides folks at BHVR!

  • Killer is like ten times more fun than SoloQ and I'm high enough MMR that I get killsquads rather often and since I don't tunnel or play Nurse/Blight, those matches are a complete loss. But at least there's something you can do, you can chase the amazing survivors to learn their patterns and improve your own mindgames. Getting blinked on by a tunneling Nurse or watching a 3 genning SM while your teammates are throwing themselves on the hook to go next removes pretty much all interactivity and fun.

The two are just really not in the same ballpark, but it is true that some SoloQ matches can be really chill when the high MMR monster is running the baby Bubba for fives gens and this rarely exists for killer since there's always something to do.

  • Pipping up build until Iri 4:

    • Kindred: To know what's happening
    • Decisive Strike: To waste the killer's time as much as possible
    • Off The Record: ^
    • Lithe: ^^

    BP farming build afterwards:

    • Kindred: To know what's happening
    • Prove Thyself: Sweet, sweet objective value
    • We'll Make It: Sweet, sweet altruism value
    • B:COH: Sweet, sweet boldness and potentially survival value

I'm having a horrible day and I just want to escape once:

    • Distortion: First to be found gets tunneled out
    • Plunderer's Instinct: Need that key!
    • Left Behind: For hatch
    • Wake Up: When all else fails

  • Imagine the salt if they brought back old Dead Hard! I mean it's a valid strategy to use strong perks right? Surely, you wouldn't complain about the other side doing the same exact thing you are accusing them of!

  • This has been an ongoing issue since at least the Artist PTB, BHVR never patched the vulnerability, despite them saying almost the same exact thing back then. But I guess content creators will just get an even more unique preferential matchmaking and they can pretend the issue went away.

    Pretty

    Good.

    Job.

  • I actually have, after going up against 8 SM in a row I threw it on to see how useful it would be. The time it takes to set up, the necessary cooperation in SoloQ and losing the perk upon a hit makes it almost completely useless. I managed to finish the last gen exactly one time with it because she committed to a death hook survivor and I had another survivor with Prove so we cranked it out, but the Cheryl even needed to take a hit so that we would have enough time.

I would say that in SoloQ SM is just a go next killer. You waste 20-30 minutes of your life just to hope that your random teammates will understand what you are doing and work together.

  • I have played in ever single possible time, middle of the night, morning, early afternoon, late afternoon, evening and currently have 2.5k hours under my belt. I have not noticed any consistency between times and the difficulty of matches. If anything, it seems periodic. For days I can stomp both killers and survivors with whatever I pick and then nothing works. It's not my MMR either because it's always in tandem with the other side as well, if my killer matches are sweaty, my survivor games are Nurse/Blight exclusive shows.

  • As long as the developers refuse to balance the game or create a matchmaking that is not the most horrendously incapable tool of matching you with others there's no slack from me. Oh and the cheaters too, there's another infestation at the moment and the game is barely playable.

  • It's already a top tier killer bully perk for SWFs, there's literally no reason to buff it any further.

  • Ah sealclubbing, the good old days.

  • It's actually horrendous. In case you are playing an M1 killer with no real antiloop like Wraith or Legion you are stuck with bloodlust 3 M1s. Half a dozen safe pallets and windows to chain together and waste your time. I'd rather play around Garden of Pain main building.

  • Oh, a thread where people don't just mindlessly call SoloQ OP because of the HUD changes. How refreshing. Maybe one day we will be able to acknowledge that the problem with SoloQ has always been and shall always be...

    ...say it with me:

    A skill issue.

  • Survivor:

    • More than 1 flashlight in the lobby. 9 out of 10 games it's just a couple of wannabe juicers that tail the killer and go down when the killer actually looks around before picking up.
    • Salty names like OnlyNoobsTunnel. These people had some very rough matches in the past couple of hours and will probably DC/Give up on hook even when it is absolutely uncalled for.
    • 2 or more people leave the lobby. Matchmaking is going to be complete whack and I'm not interested in watching a 10k hour killer tunnel my 10 hour teammate.
    • No levels on core characters. At 2.5k hours I don't see the reason why my teammates shouldn't have at least one level on Meg, Dwight etc.

    Killer:.

    • P100(s). They are either hackers or SWF a lot. Not interested in either.
    • 4 TTVs with flashlights. Too toxic, not interested, they can have the cracked Blight/Nurse mains that don't care about Garden of Pain.
  • Game's been incredibly unstable since around the Knight was released. Spaghetti code probably.

  • Good to know BHVR considers something with zero counterplay to it to not be thoroughly game breaking. Explains some of the changes they have made to the "balance" of the game.

  • Those killers aren't viable at high MMR.

"But my favorite content creator 4ks all the time with no perk/addon Legion!"

    Yeppp.

  • Ever wonder why BHVR didn't fix the IP address leak that has been common knowledge since the Artist came out? The Killer is still pretty much the host, dedicated servers just act as arbiters between matches rather than actual servers. Significantly cheaper that way with one hundredth the traffic per match. But can't fix the IP leaking, since everyone needs to connect to the killer.

  • Stop.

    Pretending.

    SBMM.

    Exists.

    Thank you.

  • Just finished playing on the EU server 14:00-17:00. Both Survivor and Killer matches are the same as they have been for the past few weeks. Either a complete sweatfeast where no gens/hooks are made or a complete stomp where the killer/survivors mop the floor with the opposition. I don't think I've seen a 2-3 men out in these 3 hours.

  • COH: 1500 Boldness per blessing.

Prove Thyself: 2 gens coop and you have max Objective

Deliverance: 1500 Survival if you can get it to activate.

We'll Make It: Can easily max out your Altruism quickly if you get safe rescues and patch them up in mere seconds.

No One Left Behind is completely worthless in SoloQ, don't use it.

  • I have moderate social anxiety so I turn down all friend requests and as such I never actually made a friend.

I did play with a random Felix one day who was doing a Hatch escape challenge like I was and after being put together for the second consecutive game, we coordinated our perks and items in the lobby. We managed to escape and complete our challenge and it was nice to see what it is like to have an actual teammate rather than just a random player on the same team. Also, sorry to the Adam we left on hook, nothing personal!

  • IIRC there is one person in charge of the MMR math, so it might not be a team per se. Anyways, MMR is utterly worthless for anything, since it doesn't do what people claim it does (separate beginners with 10 hour in the game from the 10k hour monsters that never miss a blink or a rush). People need to treat SBMM like a functional thing and just accept it as placebo.

  • Cut Loose will be an absolute nightmare on competent loopers and I'm hoping I can make some use of it as well.

Blood Rush will be yet another "officially anti-tunnel perk but in reality a bullying the killer perk". Useless if you are being tunneled, extremely good with in a SWF against a killer that respects hook states.

Everything else is super niche and maybe will only equip them for challenge build synergy.

  • What truly scares me, is that as bad as Killer is currently (make no mistake, it's a very frustrating experience if you are not a pro Nurse/Blight/Spirit player), it doesn't even come close to the utter misery that is SoloQ. And with the constant barrage against the HUD change (that didn't even increase survival rate by a single percent mind you) I can all too easily imagine the devs doing something so disastrous like adding another gen to finish, which would bump the current 80%+ kill rate to well above 95. Maybe the game would actually die then?

  • OmG, KiLlEr so hard you guys!

    20230208074748_1.jpg

Seriously, how does anyone even enjoy playing killer anymore?

    20230208193154_1.jpg

Every single lobby is a complete sweatfest with these HUD changes too!

    20230209080020_1.jpg

I just want to chill and have some fun but they genrush me in one chase, so unfair!

    20230209094515_1.jpg

When will the Devs make Killer playable again?

    20230209174230_1.jpg

Just give killers that instadown all survivors at the start of the match so we have a fighting chance against these SoloQ killsquads!

    20230211143825_1.jpg

I'm kidding of course. Just play one ######### SoloQ match before you complain about the health state of killer gameplay. Because it's not even in the same ballpark as the actual unplayable game mode. The killer entitlement is even worse than the survivor one and that's a HUGE achievement. Pretty good job so far folks.

  • I actually gave her a couple of matches again, but she is still ridiculously RNG based where half the match survivors don't make grunt noises let alone footstep sounds. I thought I was just unlucky and people were running really good perks to counter her, but only one survivor had Off The Record. Everyone else just magically avoided making noises when injured during a large portion of the matches. BHVR coding at its finest.

  • I actually played him a lot when I unlocked him so I maxed out my MMR, only absolute sweatfests where everyone plays very optimally against him.

  • Probably nerf self-heal to self-care speed. Still gives it to the entire team but now you either need someone to heal you or you waste a lot of time.

  • 9 out of 10 games I'd rather my survivor teammate get hatch than risk both of us going down. I don't think in all my 3k hours I've ever had a match turn around when it came to that point. It's so demoralizing when I see my rando SoloQ partner just stand there in the open or throw themselves at the killer and t-bag without even looking for the hatch. So soulcrushing. You ever run into me, feel free to hide if I'm on death hook and get downed.

  • And despite all these "buffs" the overall killrate for all games is still 70%+, unchanged since the Killer patch. How curious. Can't be a skill issue, I'm sure.

  • I'm not interested in sweatfests. The 4 TTV P100 6 second switch RPD lobby can get a 10k hour Nurse or Blight instead. Have fun!

  • The treatment of the Twins should answer any and all questions you might have regarding the chapter.

  • A couple of weeks ago I started to see a huge uptick in disconnects, even when it makes absolutely no sense. Killer has two hooks, only 2 gens are left and both are at a pretty respectable progress, a person who wasn't been downed just DCs. A person, supposedly working on a gen, while I'm chasing a Nea for five gens on Borgo without taking a single health state DCs. Survivor goes through the dying animation on hook and then a few seconds later DC.

Also, the DC where both the killer and one survivor DCs at the same exact moment.

I've been playing this game since 2020 and while I did occasionally experience random crashed to desktop, they would usually only occur about once every 2 to 3 months. Now every single week I'm crashing at least once.

  • It's so funny to see how low MMR some people are when they don't go up against survivors absolutely abusing RPD God loops to their greatest extent.

  • I really don't think we need to push the 80% killrate even higher.

  • Shocking discovery, people on the internet treat each other badly, especially in a game where they are competing against one another.

  • I guess I do judge them in the way of:

Wow, here is a smart person that is not playing the complete garbage, borderline unsupported game mode that is SoloQ, which is in its most miserable state ever. Despite the whinefest about the HUD, SoloQ games are just as unplayable as they have been since the Killer patch+MMR tweak combo completely wrecked what little fun there was left.

If I didn't have certain real life circumstances limiting my gaming experience, I would never touch Survivor without a SWF.

  • I'm not entirely sure how you can tunnel more than 10 out of 10 games, but whatever you say Killer mains, we know that the only reason you play the way you do is because you are forced to. You most certainly wouldn't tunnel just for the hell of it if the game was easier, wink, wink.

1 … 7 8 9 10 11 … 16
