  • Absolutely not. SoloQ is worse than it was, the HUD changes improved life about 0.00%. If you are having fun with other games, there is zero reason to waste your time on DBD.

  • I played Pig with Brutal, Corrupt, STBFL and Dead Lock, survivors got Red Forest. Solid players all around, looped and worked on gens efficiently. 6 hooks 1 sacrifice.

Second match I got sent to Eeyrie with 4 toolboxes so I set aside my usual no tunneling rule and played as sweaty as possible. First 4 gen flew past, but with one survivor dead, the match came to a halt and ended up 4king. In these two matches I swung every single time whether or not they could have had Dead Hard. Ate only one. At this point I think it's more efficient to risk it and occasionally take the L.

I'm not even considering touching survivor with the pre-patch SBMM adjustments potentially still being around. SoloQ escape rate might actually drop to sub 1%.

  • Hag is the most overrated Killer.

Versing a good curving Billy isn't fun because you just die anyway as if it was a Blight.

Plague is the worst designed Killer. Eliminating a quarter of your gameplay is a horrible way to handle things.

    Coal Tower is not balanced.

Current NOED is still very much a free win the game perk in a lot of situations and is a far more unhealthy perk than DH ever was.

SWFs should have to repair an extra gen and 4 SoloQ randos should have one less generator, but unironically.

  • I'm both glad that other people seem to have the same experience as I do and I'm not going crazy, and of course also sad, because it confirms my suspicions that something really wonky is going on with MMR and this time around it doesn't seem to be fixing itself which is highly worrisome.

Ever since SBMM was introduced, every month there would be 2-4 days where my survivor games were utterly hopeless, very experienced killers who are all on top of their game and mechanics while my teammates are literally bush crouching Claudettes hiding the MOMENT they hear a heartbeat and conversely, the survivors I faced as Killer were significantly more often in a SWF than usual (there are only so many Hex: sex joke names out there for them to be in the same lobby with no repeat, plus Steam friend list) and would genrush the hell out of me. One particularly sad moment stands out when I saw 4 toolboxes and 4 hook offerings, hoping that it would be one of those insanely fun meme matches where a sabo squad would completely throw the game just to have fun. 4 BNPS and 4 hooks, balanced like all things should be.

For the past two years this random MMR anomaly would go away and my matches would become significantly less frustrating for the rest of the month. But two weeks ago it started again and this time it doesn't seem to be going away. Last week I played 76 SoloQ matches for 1, that is 1 out of 76, escape. Ludicrous even by Dead by Hockey standards and more than double my worst loss streak up to that point. I stopped playing the game altogether yesterday . Killer games are equally as bad, maybe one match out of ten I 3k, the rest is 6-8 hooks and everyone is out (although I don't tunnel so some of those matches are in principle perfectly winnable and as such the killer side of things isn't very reliable as far as percentage is concerned). But SoloQ has never been this horrendous, not even close and it has been gradually getting worse every patch since SBMM was introduced though I really didn't think we could hit the point of single digit escape rates because 10k hour Nurse mains need to go up against 60 hour Claudettes so that the people who are most vocal about killers not owing survivors chill games can have chill games themselves. Beyond parody.

  • I'm not entirely certain if it's the time in particular. There has been something incredibly wonky going on with matchmaking for almost a week where the skill discrepancy was ten times worse than usual (76 soloq games for one single escape, nobody can be that bad at survivor, not even me), but it seemed to be go back to just the usual yesterday morning.

  • I sometimes run across survivors who'll "thank" me in the endgame chat for playing nice, not tunneling, camping etc, even if I do end up winning. I've also went up against a lovely twitch streamer a few months back (ain't that a nice change of pace) who pointed out during the match that I was really respecting hooks and admonishing her teammate for bodyblocking with Borrowed Time. It is of course the exception not the rule.

  • I'll also go with Myers, very slow early game and with no perks or addons even his T3 isn't that impressive. No antiloop, no mobility, nada.Even Trapper can, if nothing else, shut down a god loop and force the survivor to go somewhere less safe.

  • I've played a couple of Billy rounds as of late and noticed that far more often than with any other killer, survivors will wave me over, what I assume is a desire for a chase. They don't t-bag or clicky click nearly as much and are very wholesome in the endgame chat.

  • The 6 months prior to the release of eScape Based MatchMaking. I was finally getting decent at the game and while SoloQ could be a massive pain in the back, there were so many fun matches even when you hit Iri 1. It's been all downhill since then.

  • I try to, but it's not like I'm some altruistic Bill main that will go for impossible saves or a friendly Bubba that will never sacrifice you.

  • Oh wow, yet another humblebrag thread about how good someone is, how original! Can you link your stream of 4k-ing 99 out of 100 matches with Wrath using no perks and addons? I want to learn from the gods themselves!

  • You either put in the hours to learn Blight/Nurse to where you can dunk on anyone that's not a tourney team, or you don't. There's a reason you don't see Pigs and Wraiths in serious tournaments, the game is not balanced around the basic M1 killer performance. You can be literally the best mindgame god on the planet, but you aren't going to win against four survivors who are focused and well coordinated if you are playing some D tier killer.

  • I'm sure you are now going to link your stream where you played one hundred SoloQ survivor matches in a row and got 4 escapes every single time, proving us how good you are and how bad we are! Surely, it isn't possible you aren't going to do that and make it seem like you are talking out of the place where the fog doesn't shine.

  • That's...actually almost perfect! Dead Hard will still remain a top tier meta perk, but now if you go for all four survivors you can guarantee four chases without a third health state, good for chill killers, sucks for sweaty ones.

I'm curious to see how the gen defense nerf will affect the general balancing though. Still, a wonderful job on listening to the feedback, it's much appreciated!

  • As survivor:

    • Pinhead box sound effect playing
    • Nurse blinking
    • Seeing a Blight
    • Seeing a Knight
    • Seeing a DC Merchant

    As killer:

    • Garden of Pain, Misery and Suffering
    • Game
    • Haddonfield
    • Decimated Borgo
    • Swamp
    • Shelter Woods
    • Bird Lady Map
    • CORN
    • Gas heaven
    • RPD
    • Cluster Forest
    • Ormond
    • Springwood
    • Asylum

  • It's ridiciously how much less stressful it is being killer when I'm not one pip away from reaching a new grade. Haddonfield offering? No need to doge anymore. Please BHVR, kill it like you killed SoloQ.

  • On the one hand, that's what you get when you watch people making a living out of sealclubbing people with 1/10th or 1/100th their experience instead of playing against similarly skilled folks.

But on the other, if even normally calm and collected individuals that aren't prone to doomposting are being concerned, maybe we should listen?

  • Does anyone have the link to Supaalf's video about how much more busted slugging Nurse is going to be? Would make a nice companion piece to that pic.

  • Can we just please delete the map entirely?

I really dislike the bright, sunny maps.

Way too easy to hold a 3 gen, almost impossible to beat a Knight/DC Merchant.

If you are playing nice, you'll be looped forever as a killer.

    Nobody is happy.

  • Just remove depipping unless you DC as a survivor (killer shouldn't count with all the hackers and DDOSing...I mean random internet crashes that only happen when you are playing killer and performing well, not when you are doing poorly or playing survivor).

Outdated mechanic that only makes the game a frustrating experience.

  • They didn't think it through.

    No, seriously, it's that easy.

  • Thanks for the update, I'm still using a VPN just to make sure that I don't "accidentally crash my internet for no apparent reason just when I'm winning as killer which funnily enough never happens while playing survivor, how peculiar".

The midchapter update was suspiciously well timed to get attention off this issue, I'm glad some people are keeping it alive, this needs fixing instead of being swept under the rug like in previous years.

  • Sad to see that not only will the devs not fix a major security vulnerability they have known about for years and just sweep it under the rug like every single instance before, but a portion of the playerbase will assist with that.

Oh well, good thing VPNs are widely available.

  • Never, it's so obvious that it is a perfectly balanced perk that doesn't give killers unearned kills thereby inflating their MMR so they come here and declare all survivors to be SWFs =)

  • SWF is going to be easy. SoloQ will be hit with yet another major nerf, so killrates are going to spike against solos and maybe drop against SWFs.

Man, I would really love to see some reliable charts about MMR, SWF/Solo killrate etc.

  • I do dislike the overuse of that term, not every group of survivor that are confident and play well are bullies. But yeah, there are tons of people who think sending themselves to Garden of Pain with 4 BNPs and then calling the killer names and sending them messages are okay and a display of their superiority, so I'm afraid it's here to stay.

  • That's the really sad part. So many claims flying around and nobody can be trusted.

If someone's internet went offline while they were streaming on Twitch after BHVR's announcement, we would at least have a clue. But it looks like everyone is just going to pretend the problem went away. Quite depressing to be honest. I'd love to ditch my VPN.

  • The problem is that matchmaking can't be fixed and will not be fixed.

In order for a true matchmaking to exist, there would need to be some semblance of balance in the game. Maps, addons, killers, SWFs, playstyles etc all change the formula. Only if there is balance can you create proper matchmaking. Until the game is decided in the lobby with which killer you picked, nothing can be done.

  • I have been patiently waiting for BHVR to nerf Blight's addons. And Spirit's addons.

    Waiting.

    Patiently.

  • Normally, I would be all out cheering and eating popcorn, but yet another bunch of nerfs to SoloQ after the escape rate dropped below 20% just reminds me how much more miserable this game is going to be in the future, so I can't quite enjoy the drama.

  • At least I'm finally willing to use all my rare medkits while they are worth something! Take that compulsory gathering.

  • Oh great, can't wait to feel like I'm back at grade 20 after all these years watching everyone walk everywhere to keep their SB ready.

How is it possible that BHVR constantly finds new ways to nerf SoloQ? DH will still be a huge annoyance for killers facing SWFs that can coordinate the saves.

  • The complaining isn't because the meta is shifting. It's because they are nuking a lot of fundamental elements all at once and completely.

They should have removed DH/NOED last year with the first meta shake-up instead of buffing all killers. Just see how much difference that makes and THEN you can have all the changes in the world.

Imagine if you are trying to balance a fighting game and you take six random characters from the roster and buff/nerf them like crazy. The entire balance of the game is going to be whack. You always change one variable at a time and see how that affects the overall health and balance. They can take DH. They can nerf healing. But do it rationally, not just nuking everything.

  • SoloQ survival rate will now consistently drop into the single digits, so they finally managed to kill that gamemode, pretty good job so far!

SWFs are still going to absolutely annihilate anything but the tippy toppy killers.

Tippy toppy killers will be even more oppressive.

The meta shake-up is supposed to bring a little fun and spice into the game. Instead they made the game an even worse experience for anyone except the top killers who already dominated anyways and the strong SWFs. Talk about swing and miss.

  • Corrupt, Deadlock, NWO, Jolt/Sloppy.

    Adrenalin, PTS, Resilience, SB

  • The best technique that worked for me was to come up with my own goal instead of winning the game.

Take a sticky note and write something like: 2 hook every single survivor before sacrificing anyone. Stick it onto the side of your monitor and click that ready button. Keep focusing on the paper so that you don't lose focus when a survivor T-bags or clicks. Don't care that gens are flying by, flashlight saves are happening, you aren't playing the same game as them, you have your own objectives.

Disable end game chat, that's a potentially horrendous source of anxiety. It feels bad not to say gg to a friendly group of survivors, but too many people will be toxic for the hell of it.

  • My prediction is that boons are dead in the water until they introduce a boon totem that gives 5% gen repair speed to generators in their range.

  • Okay, so you know how there is this meme that the devs don't understand their own game? Which is a perfectly fine thing, very few devs actually do play their own games to understand all the intricacies and nuances. What good dev teams do however, is take feedback from the people who do play their game at a high level.

    So.

BHVR doesn't understand its own game.

  • The fact that they killed Dead Hard means that on average there are 12 less health states to go through. Tunneling is going to be EVEN MORE effective if that's somehow possible. 5-10% average killrate increase at least.

  • They said that Killers will also get accessibility changes, but those are taking longer and will be release once they are done.

  • Who's gonna get the first 100 sacrificed in a row in SoloQ achievement? Can't wait!

  • They are making the same mistake as last time, changing a lot of interconnected variables without examining the chain reaction that it sparks.

Dead Hard definitely deserved the gutting and COH needed a nerf, but the global healing nerf was too much. Also, once again its SoloQ that's going to suffer the most, since SWFs can just coordinate the heals. I don't know why they want single digit escape rates, but I guess the devs really just don't give a ######### about their paying customers.

    Billy nerf is hilarious.

  • "I'm getting DDOSed!"

"No, your internet is just bad."

"I'm now using a VPN that should make my unstable connection even worse, but I'm not having any issues."

"See? I told you it was just a bad internet!"

I love it when the DbD forum is YouTube Subscription feed. (not)

Yeah, Scott is on the Bad Faith Interpretations Train. Even though what he says it says, isn't what it says. It makes YouTube Money.

I'd like to know how Scott knows the IP leaks happened through DbD? There are many ways to get someone's IP.

It doesn't matter how many sentences you insert into a text that doesn't contain those sentences, they won't magically come into existence. This isn't art or literature where we are interpreting and theorizing about what the authors intentions were. BHVR stated that they saw no evidence of a DDOS-ing issue. No yet, buts, ifs, anythings.

Now if you advocate for more people to send in logs I fully support that.

  • @ImprobableCarny said:

Giving BHVR a data log when reporting an issue is not "jumping through hoops" it's standard procedure when investigating problems. You guys have a completely cartoonish understanding of the way the world works. I've never said the issue is in no way related to BHVR, but they're not going to hold your hand and call your ISP for you.

Some random on twitter does not have "more credibility" than BHVR. I could go on there now and make a tweet about how Cote broke into my house and put his fingers in my peanut butter jars and half the playerbase would believe it because they've primed themselves to believe anything that supports their base emotional kneejerks. You are all just frustrated and taking that frustration out in the easiest way you can without actually examining the situation you're in, and it's making you shortsighted. The frustration is understandable but we are presumably all adults here and capable of working with people to solve problems instead of just expecting them to solve themselves.

Also if the issue IS with Steam Networking like... yes, turning it off is the quickest easiest way you can protect yourself, and for many people who have posted about it in these very forums, it has helped. Why you WOULDN'T flip a switch to make your life easier is beyond me.

"Some random on twitter does not have "more credibility" than BHVR."

Yes, they have. Even Otz himself gives him credibility and I doubt he would believe some random person on the internet, I don't agree with him on a lot of things but I'll accept his judgement or inner knowledge on this issue.

As far as BHVR is concerned, what exactly did they do when the Artist PTB was out and the DDOS-ing issue surfaced? They issued a warning on the forum and then...nothing. Weeks went by, months went by, years went by. I remember Pebsie advertising a VPN service after like a year where everyone long completely dropped the issue. None of the big name streamers brought it up and everyone on BHVR's side was absolutely silent, sweeping it under the rug. You had a thread asking about the DDOS situation every odd month or so. No information whatsoever, official or otherwise.

It was never addressed whether or not THAT particular leak was fixed. Or if they even admit that actually existed in the first place. They literally ignored the problem until it came back to bite them in the back. Peanits himself could reply to this post and tell us details instead of the usual corporate response of 'taking the issue very seriously' and I wouldn't believe a single word. No offense to anyone on the dev team personally, at this point I fully believe the solution is strictly hindered by a monetary problem that is not approved from the higher ups. The devs are powerless to do anything, so they are hoping that the problem will go away when people get bored of paying money for the DDOS farms since streamers are mostly protected with VPN/preferential matchmaking.

  • Okay, so which content creator that cares so deeply about the community is going to stream without a VPN on Steam to bait out being DDOSed? I'm sorry, I meant bait out random crashing?

I cannot fathom that the solution is this simple. Would be tremendously hilarious though.

  • Actually planning on doing a 50 Demogorgon games to test the accuracy of the SBMM system, so it would be a nice practice run on keeping tally on important bits of information.

Quick question, how are we going to define tunneling? If I hook a Mikaela, start a chase with a Kate, down her, hear that Mikaela is unhooked, hook the Kate and then immediately go for Mikaela, that's technically not hooking the same person twice, but I can hardly imagine her agreeing that she isn't being tunneled.

  • I think legally speaking they can claim you are using a third party software if they want to ban you for something, but considering the fact that streamers openly use and advocate for VPN, I highly doubt anyone actually would get banned for it. I don't use custom perk icons because that's technically modifying the game files, but even that hasn't resulted in a single confirmed ban.

I've personally been playing with a VPN exclusively since the Artist PTB, admitted it on the forums multiple times and haven't even received a warning.

  • It's fixed in the sense that now it's a 3gen heaven for killers, especially if you start at shack. If you play optimally, SM and Knight should basically be impossible to defeat.

Obviously it still has strong loops so against competent teams with an M1 killer you won't be able to do much. Now it's just miserable potentially for both sides.

Honest question, can you really prove preferential matchmaking? Obviously a content creator won't put up games that go down the shitter as half the time those aren't fun to watch. It happens though, even to streamers and other content creators. Half of the time, we only see their best games.

Pig vs Hens33 and his squad would probably go sour because Hens is a great player, and Pig is a mostly ######### killer. Saying "I bet it'd go different if my Trapper with moderate addons went against 4 P-100 survivors with 8k hours or Eyre of Crows" isn't saying much, and that mostly highlights a problem with the killer's strength, map imbalance, etc. Those matches don't happen all the time, and hey, a match can start with the odds against anyone on both sides.

I don't have the game's sour code sadly, but I'm fairly sure one of the main streamers said in a Twitter thread that content creators got preferential matchmaking when they all dropped their "can't play because too many hackers" videos in quick succesion. So BHVR added some rules like X hours of game time so brand new hacking accounts can't be matched with them. This solved the problem in the sense that now the average players get them exclusively. That being said, I have no proof that their MMR is also lowered, but people like Otz, Scott Jund and OhTofu have thousands upon thousands of hours where they played killer. You could theoretically go watch everything and see how often did they play against 4 BNPs, had survivors that had not the faintest clue of how to loop etc. If I had the time, I'd definitely do it and see how they hold up, I bet we could learn all sorts of useful things from that.

As to the second part of your post, you are just proving my point. My original contention was that drawing vast conclusion from someone incredibly good at the game, playing against weak teams was a mistake because there are too many variables. Now if Otz and Hens&Co got together and Otz went through all killers without tunneling (map RNG, no fixed balanced maps) that would be incredible to watch and we could actually learn a lot.

I brought up Hens because he does tournament stuff which is actually fairly balanced, but Otz played against some random SWF on Ormond a couple of weeks/months ago and got like 1 kill? There are plenty of strong SWFs that should be matched up against the best of the best, because giving them 400 hour Megheads is not very balanced.

1 … 6 7 8 9 10 … 16
