Killer main here. While I don't think it's perfect I overall like this patch.
Lots of niche perk buffs which is always good. Regardless of their competitive quality, the new addons for the various killers are more interesting compared to the original ones, which is good as those kinds of addons play more into the strengths of the addons system in general compared to stat boosts.
But lets talk about the boon totems for a second, because while they aren't perfect they are a LOT healthier than a lot of the playbase gives them credit for.
Lets assume 2 things for a second. 1: BHVR pushes these perks in with no changes, I'm not evaluating some hypothetical change they could do to them. 2: Killers never break boon totems, it isn't clear how easy or worthwhile breaking a boon totem will be, so I'll just assume the worst case scenario.
There are 2 boon perks, Circle of Healing and Shadow Step.
First of all Shadow Step. It disables scratchmarks and it disables aura reading. The thing about this perk is that it's a stealth perk, and more specifically it's a stealth perk that is disabling artificial tracking (aka: not iron will). That kind of effect is AWESOME, because aura reading and scratchmarks are both terrible mechanics just in general.
I get that this is very subjective, but if a meta Survivor perk is an anti-scratchmarks perk then I see that as a huge win. Survivors aren't taking yet another second chance perk, chases are more likely to end in an outright escape rather than being dragged on forever and I as a Killer am being more tested on my ability to track Survivors through sound, context and mind games. All of this is exactly why I'm playing this game in the first place. I'm all for this perk being as OP as possible.
The second one is Circle of Healing. This perk is literally just a conditional medkit. Basically just a better pharmacy (the perk even specifically says so), which is good because pharmacy isn't very good outside of farming games. The first time you heal with this perk it takes 30 seconds (14 seconds cleansing, 16 seconds healing), and every additional time you must head back to the effected area and then you have 16 second heals. If I instead just brought a good medkit I could avoid the initial 14 second investment, avoid the travel time on future uses and also I would have had another perk slot. Plus again, every perk slot spent on healing perks is a perk slot not spent on a second chance perk.
Whenever a perk like this is added to the game you really just have to ask yourself. Would I rather a Survivor run this perk, or DS/DH/BT/UB? The answer is basically always the new perk, at the time MoM was a rare exception.
Plus worst case scenario I already have plague as one of my main Killers, and she bypasses both of these boons. More specifically she cancels out healing entirely, and her sickness is also a great audio tracking tool which is not stopped by any perks.
My REAL main is Ghostface (who I'm glad is getting basekit buffs, his CD with addons is only 1 second worse and I can live with that), but when I'm not playing him I also play Spirit (who has new addons to try out, but rip her basekit), Plague (who is massively buffed) and Demogorgon (rip).
I dont think having to avoid playing all killers besides plague because of boon totems is a good thing.

When I first started years back, flailing arms WAS the universal signal. But somewhere along the line it became 'come save me'. Even kindred isn't always effective. I never leave home without it, and yet people still do the lemming dance around the hook while the killers nose is practically touching mine.
I've lost count of the many many times I've yelled "For christ sake just go do gens!" ineffectively at my tv screen.
Yep,I think some survivors just hate doing gens and look for any excuse to not do them.

As a survivor that couldn't survive my way out of a paper bag, boon totems have potential to help me, at least. I want super self care and no scratch marks... With these, maybe, just maybe, I might last longer than I do in bed.
Hahahah,that made me laugh so hard 😂 good one!

true. ok maybe not 95%, but from what ive seen the majority likes the addition of boon totems. As you said, it shouldnt be in the game at the first place.
Probably because the majority mostly play survivor,probably with friends and I dont blame them,who would play killer in the current state of the game.

They do but not nearly as much as you think, it just seems that way.
There are plenty of people who are really upset with these changes.
I don't even main killer and these changes are just garbage. I don't know why survivors would like these changes, the game is already too damn easy as survivor, even solo que survivor is easy especially thanks to MMR.
Also I agree,survivors being easier can make them think they deserve everything handed to them,thus creating toxicity when something doesn't go their way.

no, even alot of killer mains like it. I mean, look at popular DBD streamers and what they have to say to it. These people influence the playerbase alot.
They influence it,but they're not the majority of the playerbase.

@SirGando said:
I agree, but 95% of the playerbase likes these changes so why wont BHVR go live with it?? Theres nothing we can do. We have to sit and watch. History will tell us if we were right or wrong...
Assuming 95% of the playerbase are survivors?I cant see how killer will like this change.

If that day would come its years too late lmao. Game lasted 5 years and probably 1 or 2 years more in the tank which isn't bad for a new ip.
BHVR is the prime example of getting away with unbalance stuff. Took them years to fix what I said and took them 5 years for trapper to have 2 traps in his inventory lul.
You saying they'll lose all their players someday is like me saying someday people will pass on lmao.
I agree with that but it might be also because they had no real competition,players had no option but to deal with it.
When that's gonna change,I doubt it will be the case anymore.

Sure mate. Hear it every time over the years.
Game is dying. Killers are quitting. blah blah.
I mean if you agree that boon totems are dumb,might as well agree,the day will come when this will actually happen.
You cant get away with stuff like this forever without having to deal with the damage done.
-
@Myla said:
I agree that Boon totems are dumb and doesn't need another objective for the killer already but they'll live.
If they can survive Insta heals, Gen rush tool boxes, 4 meta perks of apocalypse, infinites. They'll be fine.
Well gl waiting 10 minutes for a killer,because that's what's gonna happen.
-
Yes SWF exist,most survivors I go againts lately been SWF,and there's a lot of sneaky cheaters that its literally impossible to tell if they cheat or not.
How can you tell if someone is using wallhacks,how can you tell if someone is using an extra perk you cant know about?
-
Its not the fact I dont want something new,its the fact they do it in a way that give survivors and especially swf a huge boost.
-
It doesn't matter if boon totems will be nerfed to oblivion,they will still be bad for the game no matter how you look at it.
They give survivors another advantage and killers a new objective to deal with,like they didn't have enough,while survivors have even more chances to finish gens and escape.
And to top all of it,boon totems will give the most advantages to swf,the ones that BHVR should have tried to nerf,not buff.
At this point I just think the guys at BHVR like to play SWF together and they we're like,hey lets give survivors boon totems,its all about swf fun,who cares about soloq or killers and balance.
The second this game will have real competition,people wont put up with stuff like this anymore.

VHS still looks a lot better though, most of this update is band aids.
Spirit already has half her nerf dropped. Deathslinger is now getting nerfed heavier than her? Plague is good idea executed horribly, not sure why anyone would want a Killer that removes both Stealth and Healing/Altruism from the match to be made stronger. Plague is just a horrible design. Trapper got a small buff that could of been done ages ago.
Keys and hatch got nerfed, but it's rather small scale for how long it took for them to do it. If this was the idea, this could of been done back when Moris got their nerf. We were told it's cause they had something bigger planned and yet we got this simple change instead.
ANd now Boon Totems,,the bad always outweight the good in Dead by Daylight.
-
Its funny that everyone complained about killer not being fun to play?And what do they do,they implement a new mechanic that make killer even less fun to play,lol.
-
@Mandy said:
If the killer snuffs out the Boon Totem, it turns the totem back into a dull one. The Survivor can then choose to rebless that totem or another one.
Also, whilst they have a Boon Totem blessed, if they choose to bless another one - then they can, and it will remove from the original blessed totem onto the new one.
(edited as I keep writing Boom instead of boon!)
So this pretty much means infinite boon totems,also meaning survivors have no reason to cleanse dull totems anymore.

Maybe dont blindly do gens without preventing that situation?
Tell that to my teammates.
-
@VonCrow said:
This is one of the problems of rushing gens without thinking.
If you leave the last 3 gens that are together, its your entirely fault.
If the killer forces the situation, it's up to you to drag him out. A killer can't guard 3 gens at same time, even if they are close. If you all start working on the 3 gens at same time, he is done.
Its especially hard in soloq where your teammates wont listen,and just repair whatever gen they find first.

And he's saying (quite rightly) that if you get into that position in the first place it's because you screwed up. Many killers Trapper most notably will try to force you into that and its on you to recognise and work to prevent it.
I was referring to when killers wont do anything else but defend their 3 gen the whole match,so I dont think this is a matter of survivors screwing up.

If killer is left with 3 gens on one side it's survivors fault not his. And making mistakes and blaming wrong side won't help u.
Split up and do gens on each side, not a single killer can chase all 4 survivors same time.
I'm saying even if you waited until you complete other gens,you still cant complete a 3gen one if the killer guards it and wont leave.
-
@R2k said:
Damn u are right. Killer should be gentle and move away, and it would be even better if he opens gate and let's u go
Not sure what you're referring to since I never said that.

This mid-chapter update with half of it's content already looks better than most of the recent full chapter updates y'all been pushing out.
Trapper changes
Spirit changes
No longer using vague descriptors and instead just using numbers
Addon passes for a lot of killers
Perk changes
A kill switch to disable aspects of the game without pushing out an update.
This is too good to be true. What did you guys do with the real BHVR? This good of an update? Even better, half of a good update? You guys acting suspicious.
VHS,that's what happened.

I think as killer you are put under more pressure to perform well. As a result killer players tend to learn how to improve quickly. As survivor because it's 4v1 you can win a match without ever being found. If your in a swf and there's that 1 person who is a god looper then you don't need to learn how to loop, mind game, juke. You can just hold M1 and progress. As killer because you are by yourself there is no one to hold your hand. If you succeed or fail it's all on you(and the quality of the survivors your facing, and the map, and rng) :P
So what's the point to play if that's what you're gonna do the whole game,just hold m1 on a gen,sounds fun.

@Shroompy said:
Because most people quit before they can improve
majority of the player base are new players
That kinda sucks for those who dont.

I really hope they get rid of the map permanently. I love it in RE2 but it's too complex and big to be in dbd. They should stick with outdoor maps.
This map just makes the game worse for me,I do not wont to play on this map ever,its not a map that suits Dead by Daylight at all

Can't wait for an entire gen to not be workable or a room cannot be entered
I'm beginning to doubt Dead by Daylight more and more,why a map that's this horrible for this game has been released in the first place...
-
I really hope there's a twist,because the last thing killers need,is more objectives.
