I said it before and I'm gonna say it now: even if tunneling is a strategy, is not good because you're making another player not able to play the game and that's just a bad experience.

I'll say it before and I'll say it again: Survivors are not owed a minimum play time or fun value before they can be removed.

I've also said this before and I'll say it again: If you think being removed in a PvP game where one side's goal to remove you is a flaw; You are playing the wrong game.

I still have to wonder if you'd be fine with old bnps being brought back based on this logic lol

  • "Goal is usually to antagonize the Killer for their own amusement" ... it's not that deep

Ultimate question. See how the killer hater would play killer and see how they'd play.

Would a killer hater think sb and lithe should be nerfed O_O

    I just want to ask.

What u will do if in one match u have 4 survivors with BNP and they complete 2 to 4 gens in 50s or 60s?

U will play nice, give up or try tunnel/camping to at least have 1 or 2 kills?

I would tunnel, what's your point? I said playing nice should become more effective on top of that

  • @Maperson said:

I mean, survivors don't go to another gen when the one they are working on reaches 50%, so why would you?

Cuz killers don't repair gens silly :P

It can still be used near a pallet to basically guarantee either a successful dead hard, or a pallet drop.

even then you're not always gonna be able to make sure you're at a pallet, and even if u do the killer can swing w timing to down u in between the dh and the pallet drop, which ive found to be way more realistic than i had thought tbh

  • @pigslittlepet said:

I'm playing for the win most of the time. If I can win by spreading hooks I will but if I see easy targets or gens fly I will do what needs to be done to secure that win. If they gen rush hard then I'll do my objective hard to keep up. I used to try and play nice but too many gg ez baby killers put me off careing what the other side thinks. When I play survivor it's the other way. I'll leave teammates for a extra hook state or Evan to die if it means finishing the gens. It sucks but the game makes you be ruthless if you want to win anymore.

    Sadly, you would be correct

I don't go out of my way to stop, or start tunneling. I don't tunnel, but if I'm 25 meters from the hook and someone unhooks you and disappears... I'm not just going to go right past you just to look for a healthy survivor in a jungle gym. That's ridiculous, but I'm also not just going to be like "ooh, injured survivor is easier than healthy survivor" That's ridiculous.

Fax happened to me a billion times w a myc challenge 😮‍💨

  • @Reinami said:

If a survivor successfully uses dead hard, and just straight holds w in in a straight line, and doesn't use pallets or windows, they gain 14.4 meters of distance during the killer hit cooldown. The lunge distance on a killer is 6 meters, this means they need to close a gap of 8.4 meters. The killer moves at 4.6 (average) survivor moves at 4.0. This means that the killer gains 0.6 meters per second when chasing. This means to close the gap of 8.4 meters, it will take the killer 14 seconds. So, ok, i was off by one second. But nobody swings at max 6 meters anyway because of reaction time.

So even in the absolute perfectly timed scenario, it adds a minimum of 14 seconds.

    What was your point again?

That is IF it's a successful dead hard , which is not guaranteed. So to say that's the bare minimum dh gives you in general is just, nah

  • Haddonfield is like one of the dumbest maps ever lol, you got like the main house which is pretty good, 2-3 houses with God windows where you basically can't chase if you don't have a chase power, and the rest of the map is a dead zone. My guess is that this map can be very frustrating for either side but if u know what you're doing you can do really well

  • @IWasLeft2Die said:

I typically get called a tunneler if I go back to a spot someone was unhooked and I find the unhooked survivor self caring right by where i unhooked them (like under the hook or behind a rock right by the hook). Instances like that I have no sympathy for since you actively didn't try to be safe and made a bad decision. Other times when I come back I have the unhooked survivor either intentionally or unintentionally running into me when im hunting for other survivors so I naturally hit them. If these are both "tunneling" then it's 100% the survivors fault.

For camping, if I hook someone and see the entire team (or most of the team) around the person I just hooked and they aren't trying to lure me away then that's also 100% on the survivor. Trying to loop me around the hook is just a bad idea and I'm sorry I don't just look at a wall and give a free unhook.

I know most people agree these are fine, but terms like "tunneling" and "camping" get thrown around a bit too much without analyzing the specific situations.

I can't be bothered to get into specifics atm cuz I'm lazy sry lol but I agree w what u saying I just mean like hard tunneling when a surv is trying to avoid it and camping just to secure stages or wtv idk basically just the stuff most ppl would agree is nasty ykyk¿

  • @That_One_Friend said:

ikr. I refuse to tunnel, I always try to 12 hook everybody. Whats sad is that I know that if I tunneled or camped, I could have easily won with a 4-3k instead of a 3 man out, since 12-hooking generally allows survivors to somewhat reset if you're not constantly downing people.

It's happened to me unintentionally so many times, I'm at 2 hooks on everyone and about to lose and it's just like damn I shoulda just played for money

Yeah there is a possibility of this. I'd maybe throw in a basekit slightly weaker sprint burst to the unhooked survivor so they can actually get away

Maybe but I worry a survivor would still use it to body block purposefully, which would suck. I had thought maybe you straight up can't hit a survivor but idk that's a BIT cray

  • @FFirebrandd said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3423459#Comment_3423459

Sure, but against most killers it does have counterplay. Playing around hook grabs is possible.

So then it becomes a question of how do you make Bubba, Trickster, and maybe a few others worse at camping without messing things up for anyone else? Or for people attempting to play those killers without camping?

I don't have an answer, and I doubt the devs do either.

Someone named vampire toothy has this big ass document on how to fix a lot of things. In that document there's a suggestion for a "territorial zone." I don't agree with all aspects of it but I like the idea in general, basically it's a zone around the hook that changes a lot throughout the match to prevent it from being abused or unfair and the idea is that some killers/perks have specific hindrances while within the zone. Look up like vampire toothy twitter and it's prolly pinned

  • Something I worry about with this is if the survivor is right inside the killer, will the killer just immediately hit them the moment they tap m1? I agree with the intention 100000% tho

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3423459#Comment_3423459

Yeah bubba is obnoxious and I don't think anyone would really argue against that. I don't think I have had many hardcore campers in some time though, including bubbas. STBFL and deadlock are fine to me (well..maybe deadlock could be tweaked) but you and I have already disagreed on those in the past so no need to dive into those again. I don't think camping is really all that effective but that's because I don't consider a game a good unless I get a 3k and it's prior to all gens being completed. Some killers consider even a 1k a victory which is lame and I just don't see the fun in standing by a hook the entire game

Stbfl may be fine but stbfl for camping def is not (imo that is !)

  • Variability in playstyle could be cool but I think both camping/tunneling should be made less effective AND not doing so be made more effective, not just one or the other. I think this bc I don't think camping should be as effective as spreading hooks for example bc there should be a reason not just to take the easy way out, and it's even worse how it is now where spreading hooks is both bad and very bad relative to other play styles

  • Should old bnp and old moris be brought back because neither side should dictate how the other should win? And so if I want to insta complete a gen I should be allowed to because killers shouldn't dictate how I win? Can we be serious here?

  • @IWasLeft2Die said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3423377#Comment_3423377

Well there lies the issue where there isn't much remaining for gen defense that's very beneficial or even interesting as the killer. If these got buffed I could see more variability in playstyle. I don't love the idea of dictating that players can't play a particular playstlye as a whole. I don't think nerfing a playstyle as a whole is the way to encourage change but maybe making other playstyle more appealing in a positive way is the way to go.

I don't really think camping should be straight up removed just bc that just doesn't make much sense. I just think it shouldn't be as effective as it currently is/can be, for example with bubba or stbfl or deadlock etc.

    @FFirebrandd said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3423377#Comment_3423377

    So... here's the thing.

I do think that the game should not be encouraging camping and tunneling nearly as much as it does. Pop and DS both desperately need to be buffed.

However making those strats not an option is also not a good idea simply because the end game exists the way it does. At that stage of the game, the gens are done so defending them isn't an option. Exit gates go too fast to be defended vs more than 1 survivor and can't really be changed because of the post hatch stomp situation. So what's left? Defending a hook if you've got one.

That's why camping has to stay at least semi viable. It is literally the only card left for a killer to play in the end game. The game should never get to a point where the killer might as well open the gate and stand in the corner/basement once gens are done because they have no chance once that happens.

I'm fine with that but it should always have counterplay, but with again bubba as an example, it just doesn't

Or Survivors like you being entitled enough to think you decide how and when the Killer tries to win.

See, I keep turning your insipid little comments back on you. The only difference is that I'm right.

Thinking camping should be a viable strategy is not right good try tho lmao

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3423368#Comment_3423368

Most people here want the gane to have more fun playstyles for bith sides, but simply making killers unable to defend hooks is not the way. Yes it would be more fun for survivors but it would be absolutely miserable for killers.

You are projecting a lot in this 1ettuce. I recommend not assuming everyone is a lazy killer just because they think having hooks essentially teleport right away is a bad idea.

Making killers less able to defend hooks and more able to defend gens is the way IMO, I'm not saying I agree w this exact idea but to say that camping should straight up be a viable strategy...I wish we'd just get real sometimes

  • Wanting the game to change to promote fun playstyles doesn't mean I think I dictate the way a player plays.

If you think punishing camping is healthy for the game then strange take since the devs have said otherwise. But good for you, but you're just wrong and it's not even a conversation.

But we get it; you don't want the Killer to win.

The devs are wrong, crazy idea ik. Also I do want the killer to win just in a way that actually takes effort =) but of course that means not winning for someone like u!

By which you mean 'Healthy for Survivors winning more'. 👍️

Look at all that not developing DBD you've done; You don't get to decide what's 'healthy'. I've also noticed whiny Survivors always claim punching Killers in the crotch with massive nerfs is 'healthy for the game':

    • Removing Killers they hate.
    • Removing perks they hate.
    • Removing/Punishing camping.
    • Removing/Punishing tunneling.
    • Removing/Punishing slugging.

All these, somehow, are 'healthy for the game'. Almost as if your average Survivor main has 0 clue how game balance & game design work, and simply want easier wins.

As long as Survivors can focus gens from 0-100%, Killers can focus kills. Deal with it.

If you think camping being viable is healthy for the game then yeah strange af take good for u and ur just wrong it's not even a conversation lmao, but we got it u don't want kills to take actual effort

  • @NoHookDC said:

    No.

Accept that the Killer gets to try winning as hard as Survivors, or stop playing.

Tired of Survivors pitching temper tantrums and demanding Killers get punished for winning.

Nobody would have a problem w that if the meta tactic was actually fun or interesting. It's not about the killers that try to win it's about the devs not nerfing tunneling

  • Go ahead and put words in my mouth I really do not care lol, camping not being viable would indeed be healthy for the game whether u like it or not 👍

Why the hell should camping be punished?

Accept that the Killer is trying to win as much as the Survivors. You don't get to decide how or when. End of story.

Because it's a lazy boring strat? Accept that the game wouldn't reward laziness if it was good, but it's like some of y'all don't want the game to be good 😛

  • @Reinami said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/373107/so-instead-of-deadhard-everyone-is-just-using-sprint-burst-now

If you are looking at a looping aspect, sprint burst doesn't really gain much value, other than making it take slightly longer to catch up. In a shift + w scenario, sprint burst adds a grand total of 4.2 meters of distance extra if you both are holding w. Do you know how short 4.2 meters is? That lunge distance of a killer is 6 meters. "catching up" this extra 4.2 meters, adds a grand total of 7 extra seconds to a chase. This is nothing compared to dead hard giving a bare minimum of 15 seconds extra chase time, and that isn't even accounting for the fact that it extends a chase at the END of a chase, rather than at the beginning where the killer hasn't already invested a ton of time into the chase.

    "Bare minimum 15s" SKILL ISSUEEE

  • @pigslittlepet said:

Than punish the other side too. If killer can't do his objective fast neither should survivors. Punish people who gen rush as well. Bnp, prove thyself, and ignoring heals to sit on gens. All things survivors use to speed there objective up to give them a easier game. Punish them for those and then go ahead and punish the killers who do their objective too fast and annoy poor little survivors.

If they're ignoring heals to sit on gens they're punished by the threat of going down in one hit lol

  • @pigslittlepet said:

Well then we should definitely tunnel and camp. Nobody cares about you trying to escape.

You wouldn't tunnel and camp if doing so was punished would u?

  • @Viktor1853 said:

The killer should not be punish for doing his objective

Tunneling only progresses the objective as it is, if it was punished they wouldn't really be doing their objective would they?

  • Agreed and killers should also be rewarded for not tunneling and not punished. Both need to happen or else the game could turn into a mess, but I'd also prefer them happening at different times as opposed to never

  • That'd be cool, I had thought it could work like being undetectable at the start of the match and after hooking someone up until hitting a survivor, would have to prevent that from being used for camping tho

  • @NoHookDC said:

Or accept that sometimes the Killer has to camp, and he decides when to do so?

Plus people have pointed out why it could be abused by Killers. Not to mention Survivors could run the Killer, force a hook change, then a teammate gets a free unhook.

So tired of these 'Punish Killers for doing something I don't personally approve of' threads. Accept that your opponent is trying to win as much as you are.

Why the hell should camping instead be rewarded?

First I would say blight is the strongest by now. Second yes some of blights addons need reworks. Another point DH alone would counter the Addon change, because if you rlly want to 12 hook you need 24 hits with Dh the number increase to freaken 36. So giving the survivors +50% of chase time isnt overpowert.

Decisive Strike had many in my opinion healthy changes preventing certain situations that could be abused by survivors. However even tho Decisive Strike can save you from certain killers or give you at least a little bit of precious time punishing tunneling, there are some that will remain unbothered. Of course, the two main examples are nurse and blight. That's why I wanted to propose a certain solution that would be a negative status effect on a killer. I made this status effect for one of my killer concepts and probably something same or similar could be made by somebody else. I called it the Amnesia status effect.

Amnesia status effect would work that way: When a killer is under that status effect he can't use his abilities ( Power and Special abilities ). It doesn't stop the ability that is already in use ( like Bubba chainsaw ) and this also doesn't disable killer abilities he already used or placed ( like trapper traps).

I think 5 seconds of Amnesia status effect for a killer hit by Decisive Strike at the third level of that perk would be pretty reasonable.

I'm eager to hear your opinion and your personal balance adjustments to that case.

I honestly just think revert everything except the conspicuous action change

It’s funny how people who absolutely needed DH reveal themselves. They always come with the “Well, it wasn’t even that bad, SB and Lithe are like, so much worse”.

you can keep saying that til your blue in the face, the absolute fact is DH was by far the most used perk in the game, by a landslide. That doesn’t happen because the perk is so terrible but fun. DH was a pocketable health state that could be used well in so many situations, no other exhaustion had its versatility. Its use literally extended some chases by 15-30 seconds for free, and you had to go in with the assumption everyone had it otherwise it got free value at least once per match(per survivor if you just didn’t assume everyone brought it, which they often did anyway.

SB is literally just run away from a gen really fast. You can’t overly coordinate it, sometimes you will be at an open gen where it does nothing for you because there is no loops around and the killer can just zone you. It’s also easily countered by perks like fear monger, blood echo, etc. and also severely capsized by stealth killers and perks (since it’s best used when you can get maximum initial distance from the killer, which is dampened if they start chase 8 meters away from you)

And lithe? Even at its most annoying it was never a problem. This is easily countered by all kinds of on-hit exhaustion perks, just like DH, but also requires a decent window set up (some don’t allow for a great deal of distance gain, such as a window leading into a building) so you have to use it in the right space. It’s also a lot more obvious when someone has it, because they will typically force a vault situation when you are close, regardless of health state. You aren’t 100% in control on when and where you can use it, and some maps just don’t have great vaults outside of safe pallets. There’s a lot of ways to counter/deal with lithe, and it’s almost a guarantee not everyone will be running this, even in a SWF, because if they got a map that is sub-optimal for vaults, the whole team would be handicapped.

bottom line period, no one who generally prefers to play as a killer is sad that DH is nerfed. Typically that comes from “le killer mains”

It's more funny that ppl like you are incapable of tolerating other ppls opinions without assuming they're just lying. Some ppl just find sb/lithe more annoying than dh was and they're allowed to feel that way, it's not rocket science

ok but that's not what I'm talking about, is it?

a successful killer game uses tons of different strategies depending on what you're up against and hit & runs is one of them. if a killer hard commits to a hit & run strat, they're going to lose unless your team is severely low rank.

    it's a non-issue.

depends on the situation. if you're all grouped up then yes, hitting multiple survivors is optimal but committing to one person unless you can't is the next step.

there's really nothing wrong with it as a playstyle though and I can't believe there's a complaint thread about it

I disagree. It's an effortless play style that only works well against solos
