When survivor in chase takes killer right to hook
-
I'm not currently a PH main or even user but there was a period where I used him a lot about 1-2 years ago. Basically, he's as good as the survivors you're up against. When playing against a team that's clearly not used to facing him, he absolutely stomps. But against an experienced team he is useless. There appears to be very little middle ground with him.

You're fixating on one point and ignoring the rest. You know what the best incentive is? Making weaker killers better to play as. If you have to try and bribe people then there is a fundamental problem that has to be fixed, and this isn't doing that, its a bandaid solution at best. People will play what they want to unless that reward is substancial, BP arent that important for most, Rift fragments are whatever, you get more than enough playing the game anyway and they arent going to give out substantial shards as that means less money.
The goal should be to make people want to play the killers naturally. Incentives to play killers i never want to play ever because they are either weak or feel awful (most of the roster) or i just dont like how they play are meaningless.
And you're fixating on the idea that the implementation of my idea has to be revolutionary and dramatically improve the game for killers. My suggestion is not that in any way.
Buffing/nerfing killers is something that BHVR has done a lot in the past and many players on both sides always have an issue with it.
If you buff weaker killers, then this harms low MMR players as weak killers are far more prevalent in low MMR matches.
My idea, in my opinion has no weakness. It's a nice little bonus that nobody has to comply to. The only criticism you have of it is that it doesn't revolutionise the issue you personally have with weaker killers.
Just to make it clear, you wouldn't have to comply with the weekly killer incentives if you don't want to play that killer. Just the same as there are many killer-based incentives in quests/rifts but for me they remain untouched as I don't play killer.

I'd just like to see them bring the dailies back in some way. Maybe for rift fragments, if BP isn't a good enough reward.
I don't think Killer variety is all that bad in mid MMR. You can be matched with pretty much any Killer since they are all viable. But it really suffers at the extremes of low and high MMR. Certain Killers over perform at low MMR but struggle against stronger opposition and in high MMR only a handful of Killers can actually compete. Low MMR Survivors are as tired of seeing Ghost Face and Legion in every other game as high MMR Survivors are at versing Blight and Nurse.
There are also some Killers that are difficult to play on controller and will probably never be very appealing without offering an incentive.
Granted, I did ignore the dailies for characters that I really didn't want to play. But I also played a lot of Killers for a daily that I sucked with but I haven't touched since they were removed (like Xeno, for example). A reward helped to soften the sting of an inevitable loss. So I think it probably has made variety a little bit worse overall.
Yeah I agree with most of what you say. I'm probably mid MMR and only play Solo Q survivor. There is a decent variety of killers that I see, but many of them I never see at all. I can't think of the last time I saw a Ghostface except for the 8v2 mode.
Also, rift shards/etc instead of BP is fine too...just an added incentive without breaking the game.
My suggestion isn't game breaking, nor does it massively improve the game, but I think it would be a nice addition to the game without harming it at all.

counter argument: If I get killers I think are boring or insufferable to play as such as Knight or Trickster (not my types of killers) I am just going to play something completely different until I get someone fun to play
Sorry, but why? Why would this suggestion force you off the game? Makes no sense to me.

You're doing this backwards, theres a reason certain killers are played far more. If you want more killer variety then you buff the weaker killers to naturally increase their play rate rather than using incentives to artificially do so as that just masks problems. I highly doubt people are going to put themselves through characters they wouldnt be play otherwise for the sake of BP, especially if they are awful to play. I certainly wouldnt, i didnt bother with the old killer dailies.
Why would it mask problems? The only thing I can think of is skewing data, but anybody with a modicum of knowledge about data analysis can see this wouldn't be an issue. It would be pretty obvious that certain killer use rates would go up significantly when there are incentives. I don't really see a significant weakness. Maybe you could argue it wouldn't improve things much, but it wouldn't do much harm at all.
-
Sorry, ignore this. Didn't realise there was a different setting between survivor and killer so I was only toggling the axis setting for survivor the whole time.
-
Yeah, this is so annoying in solo q!
-
BHVR appears to have a hiring policy where they want to give people a chance who lack critical experience in their respective fields. Whilst it's great to give people a chance who otherwise wouldn't get that chance elsewhere, it's best for everybody that they're paired up with people who are experienced, so there is someone to learn from. At the moment it just seems that the inexperienced people simply given a chance have been thrown in the deep end with no assistance and it's showing.
-
Thanks everybody, these are very helpful responses and helps me understand better. I reckon I have a fairly average MMR so I guess I just struggle against certain killers more than the high MMR players and Comms would be useful, but it's unfortunately something I'm not able to do.

Do you play solo queue or SWF? This is a serious question.
Solo 100% of the time. I have no friends who play DBD.

Personally, whilst there are flaws with the game, I'm not obsessed with winning enough to care that deeply. Yes, I want to escape every trial, or get a 3/4k but I'm not that bothered if it doesn't happen. I only get a bit frustrated if I get tunnelled by a Nurse/Blight/etc because I'm likely to be killed out the trial within a few minutes. I think the core gameplay is fun in general. If you're obsessed with winning, then I think most games multiplayer games won't be fun for you. In most games with an MMR ranking system, you'll be expected to win/lose about 50% of your games unless you're one of the best/worst players in the world.
-
As survivor my all time escape rate is 38.29%. Last 30 days it's 28.87% from 97 matches. I keep hearing that killer has become harder but this is not happening in my matches.
-
I rarely play killer but when I do it's Doctor
-
Sorry, but who is Jeryl?

Do you swap between these survivors often or could it be that maybe you were using different survivors during different patches?
I unlocked every survivor and then played with them until they got P3. So I would have played with most survivors in a singular period of time, so it's possible a certain patch made me perform better/worse than others. I also used to switch when daily objectives required you using a specific survivor

I do not play the game anymore BECAUSE I did not enjoy Killer anymore. I did not play Survivor much, so not a part of this go next thing you seem to be so set on.
Telling people, "if you don't like it, play something else," is extremely poor advice. Especially when you insist that the people not having fun getting tunneled, gen rushed, BM'd or whatever else are the issue and NOT the fact that those things are so prevalent and problematic.
If you want an ultra-toxic unfun mess that you feel forced to play, maybe you should consider going back to CS2 or League and stop trying to bring that sentiment here.
Well done on correctly using quotation marks this time and accurately responding to something I said. I still maintain that your last response was total trash BS.
As for this response, I respect it more, though I do disagree.
First of all, why are you playing a game that you don't enjoy? Genuine question. I can understand certain things annoy you about the game, but I genuinely don't understand the concept of playing a game you don't enjoy. It suggests to me that the game has become an addiction, which is not healthy.
Besides, what do the devs use when deciding on what changes to make to the game? By far, the biggest factor is player count. If people who dislike the direction the game is going in continue playing, and thus continue keeping the player count high, then the devs will think everything's fine.
Joining a game and going next within a few minutes is just such a selfish thing to do for people who are playing the game to have fun, and it doesn't serve any purpose. I saw a video of a guy on Youtube who is just mindlessly joining games and quitting immediately game after game. His facial expression never changed and he didn't say anything the whole time. It was weird af. It's just weird to join a game you pre-emptively are going to dislike and quit as soon as you're triggered.
I don't know what CS2 is, but if you feel the game is toxic and want that to change, keeping the game's user counts high is going to do little to change that.

"It's fine that the game is unfun for others as long as it's fun for me"
Like jeez, didn't think I'd have anyone arguing AGAINST making the game better but here we are.
At no point did I even remotely suggest any part of what you said. There is nothing I said that could even be remotely interpreted that way. You actually had to blatantly misquote me to try and somehow prove your point.
What I quite clearly suggested is that if you don't enjoy the game, play a different game. This game isn't for you if you don't find it fun.
It is totally fine to complain about the game being fun because you want it to be fun. It is totally not fun to make the game unfun for others (referring to your misquotation of my comment) by joining and quitting games ruining the experience for those that do find the game fun as it is.

"I don't believe it because it goes against what I want to believe"
We've known that KR's have been an issue since before this latest epidemic. 60% is far too high and doesn't include DC's.
Perhaps we should look into making the game more enjoyable for everyone?
I hate this concept of "Well it's not fun so I'm going to quit". It's such childish behaviour. Stop chasing your specific requirements for a "fun" match. Not all matches have to be fun. The whole point of having a fun match is that it's more fun than other matches. If every game was "fun", then the things you find fun become not fun, but monotonous instead. To enjoy things, you have to sometimes not have fun. Fun is only a comparison to things that are not fun.
If you're not having fun, don't just quit, uninstall the game.
Then I'm sure you'll find fun somewhere else. Go play Lego Harry Potter. You'll win every time and I'm sure you'll have lots of fun.

I disagree, the proposal of the mode is precisely that, chaos. Just as survivors can get useless perks, the killers can too.
This isn't just a useless perk, it is a compromising perk where it is actually better to not have it. There is no killer perk that is like this.
-
Honestly, I used to do this, as the items are consumable. In many other games I play, I have a tendency of hoarding my consumable items unless there's an easy way of replenishing them. In my early DBD days, I wasn't sure how easy it was to replenish all my consumables, so I would hoard them. I now know that it is easy to re-stock everything, and getting bloodpoints is far easier now than it was when I started playing, so I always go in with a full load out now.

I played killer all day and it started out casual, winning kinda effortlessly no tunneling or nothing needed. As the day went on my mmr or something hit a point where the game was like "thats it no more fun for you, bring in the swat teams and bully squads" and for the rest of the day 3 or 4 generators would pop before i could hook 2 people so im forced to tunnel alredy because i wont get anything if i follow the rule book like an average game. And eventually ur playing that way just to make ends meet and then that killers mmr has a brain fart and gives them a casual group who just logged on to get a few bloodpoints and they get obliterated. Meanwhile if u play survivor u just end up getring tunneled or at maximum 30k while the killer still gets 40-50k even if everyone escaped. I managed to get 8 prestiges in 1 day just playing killer, but yea those generatoe speeds are forcing tunneling, and then those killers either get someone playing a guitar or the round is going too fast so they end up farming.
"It started out casual" - Translation: You were up against low-MMR survivors who don't know how to bully/sweat. They probably thought you were a bully/sweaty killer.
"thats it no more fun for you, bring in the swat teams and bully squads" - Translation: You came up against high-MMR survivors who played at a much higher level than the survivors you faced earlier in the day. They were much more efficient and better at looping so now you feel they're bullying/sweating.
Listen, if you are winning a good portion of your matches in a ranked game, any game in or outside of DBD, you should always be in a position where you're generally winning/losing 50% of your matches, unless you're in the top/bottom 5% of players skill-wise in the game. If you are on a winning streak, then you will have to be prepared to go on a losing streak soon enough, because you'll eventually face players who did what was needed to win their matches, just the same as you did. If you go on a losing streak, then you'll get back to winning ways soon enough. If you're generally winning about 50% of your games and every game is a close match, then you're at your correct MMR ranking, and you'll probably stay that way until you go on a winning/losing streak.
-
All I know is that the nerf is good enough that I'm only now facing him once or twice every ten games rather two out of every three.
-
Yes, it was very early on in my DBD life. I only really played survivor and I think this was only my 2nd or 3rd game playing as killer. I was trying out Huntress and couldn't get a single throw on target (I'm on controller and never play FPS games, so my aim is awful) so I just gave up throwing hatchets and ended up trying to chase normally and get normal hits. One survivor was too good at looping me to hit him so I then just went for other survivors. But that first survivor who I gave up on just kept following me everywhere, getting pallet saves, flashlight saves and protection hits. And I finally got him down when he went for a protection hit whilst injured, but he was under a pallet. I chased off the other survivor nearby so they wouldn't get the pallet save, but when I then finally picked up that infuriating survivor, he only had Power Struggle and pallet saved himself!
I am able to speak in such detail about this because it really was the most traumatic experience in my gaming life and I have never tried playing huntress or any other killer which requires you to aim, ever again!
-
For a balanced queue time, you always need 80% of players wanting to play survivor and 20% wanting to play killer.
At the moment, many players want to play killer as the Ghoul has just released, and this is normal every time a new killer is released.
However, this is compounded by the fact that survivors don't like the new killer and too many matches are against this same killer, so they've stopped playing until either the Ghoul gets nerfed or people slow down in using him as killer all the time.
And if you're trying to log onto the normal game as killer, the queue times are compounded by the fact that maybe half the survivors are playing the Blood Moon event, whilst killers are sticking to the normal game, because the Blood Moon event just doesn't have many benefits for the killers, so even though half the survivors are off playing Blood Moon, maybe only 10% killers are playing Blood Moon.
So in summary, you have a huge surge of killers playing in the normal game, and very few survivors, which is unbalancing the match queue times.
-
Thanks all for the reponse!

I literally have not played a single match yet, mostly because I keep hearing that the state of the game isn't great at the moment due to the Ghoul being overpowered (?) and how frequent players are up against that killer. I'm not sure if I should wait until the Ghoul gets some changes?
I've leveled up Dwight's and Kate's bloodweb a bit as I've heard their perks are fairly good and alright for beginners. What other survivor perks should I get?
I've heard about the Blood Moon event that's currently going on, unsure if I should give that a go or just play normal matches? It seems complicated, probably because I'm very new to the game haha
Any other general advice for starting out would be greatly appreciated! <3
Play both survivor and killer so that you understand each role more effectively. Eventually you'll lean to one side more than the other, but you should still play the other side from time to time to gain a better perspective of what you're up against.

The love of looping and view of it being the only skill thing with survivor isn't restricted to content creators at all. It's insane how many matches I have that regular players say this post match as killer and survivor. I often ask why didn't they do gens and they almost always respond with "because it's boring". As survivor I do gens because soloq is awful due to so many people refusing to touch gens, I play stealth just fine, I pre run, lose line of sight when possible and I don't get tunneled anywhere near as much as most people.
Fair enough. I'm a console player so I don't see end game chats, but I appreciate that it's not just content creators who love looping. But I would argue against the idea that it's the majority of survivors who loves looping.
In my SoloQ games as survivor, I don't seem to notice that much of a problem with other survivors doing gens. Every so often I do see that the other three survivors are doing nothing for an extended period of time, but that's kinda rare. Sometimes you do have that one survivor who is chasing the chase, so they can either take chase for themselves, or are trying to set up for a flashlight/pallet/sabotage save, but again, it's not that common in my games.
I have a group of DBD friends that I've known for years and used to SWF with, but a lot of them have dropped out of the game or at least barely play it because of the loopfest situation. We were casuals who played a lot of different games together, and DBD was just one of them, but now they have no interest in it. That's just my personal observations. Perhaps it's an MMR thing. Maybe higher-tier survivors are more likely to want to get involved in a chase, and you probably see what you do because you're probably a higher level than me. I dunno, just speculating.

but the majority of survivors openly admit to chases and looping being the only fun part of survivor and the only skillful action. With this being the case, survivors seem to like and want to be chased but when they get caught they say "ok now I don't want to be chased". But it's the only fun and skilful part for a survivor. they love being tunneled if they can loop forever to give the team time to do gens that's exactly what many survivors want, to do that 1 thing all match but they suddenly don't like it if they get hooked. Seems a bit wishy washy to me.
I don't think you're right. The majority of high-MMR survivors enjoy chase and looping, especially the survivor Youtubers, who constantly say that anything that's not chase related is boring as survivor. But that's just for content. WATCHING survivor gameplay on Youtube/etc is boring if they're just sat on gens all game, but playing the game is different. Playing as killer is very much about being in constant action, and the people who enter a match as killer do so for this reason, whereas a lot of survivors want to play survivor as it's a lot more chill. But with the current state of the game, most survivors are having to enter a chase every couple minutes. Some might like it, but I personally just hate that side of things, and a lot of people I speak to, that are not high level players, think the same way.
Being chased is part of the game as survivor, but the constant chasing is just a bit much. Killers almost always enter with at least 1 or 2 aura perks, but survivor stealth perks like Distortion gets nerfed. The survivors who enjoyed the stealth element of the game back in the day are playing much less or not at all, hence the massive increase in killer queue times over the last couple years, and the almost non-existent queue times for survivors.
-
I like the concept, but think this should be a new perk. Maybe call the perk "C4" or something similar. Works similar to flashbang where to have to do some progress on a gen, jump in a locker, and then you can set the C4 anywhere on the map. When the killer is near the C4, then you can manually detonate it, and if the killer is within 10 metres of the C4 at the time of detonation, then it stuns/blinds the killer. This would be vaguely useful but not at all OP as the survivor using it would almost need to constantly have line of sight on the area where they placed the C4 to know when to detonate it.
-
Killer queues are now longer than I've ever noticed them (except for the 2v8 periods). And going into survivor matches is almost instantaneous now. Again, except for 2v8 periods, these queue times have never been so far apart from each other. Goes to show that more people are desperate to play killer and survivors are just not logging on because of the current state of the game. I'd rather go back to the day 1 Skull Merchant or day 1 Knight times than this rubbish.
As survivor, I'm sick of coming up against the same OP killer than obliterates me and my team every game. But if I want to play as killer, as Doctor, I have to wait 10 minutes in the queue. It's just not fun for me either way.
-
I think everybody enjoyed DBD a lot more back in the days of stealth and search. I think the game would be better on both sides if aura perks on both sides were massively nerfed, or otherwise completely removed, and gens increased to 2 minutes. I don't enjoy the loopfest meme game that this once stealth horror game has become.
-
I preferred DBD when it was more of a stealth horror game. Now it's just a loopfest meme game. I get a lot of people enjoy the chase, both as killer and survivor, but I just don't enjoy it personally.

Just get better as a survivor.
I admit, I'm not amazing as survivor, but when I watch high level survivors on Youtube, even they have problems coming up against Nurse. Nurse definitely needs a big nerf because she's been OP since she was released. As a killer, I generally get a 3k/4k about 50%-60% of my games. But when I play as Nurse, I get a 4k in at least 90% of my games, with maybe 5% 3k. I almost never have a game as Nurse where I get less than 2 kills.
I'd like to see more M1 killers with low map mobility get a buff.

What does "set point of 15" mean?

@Reinami said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/441022/new-game-mode-idea-perk-points
This has been suggested before by content creators as a way to balance certain killers and perks. For example by allowing killers like nurse to only have a few points whereas trapper might have a lot, so you can't take that many really good perks as nurse and can take a bunch as trapper.
Here is the problem with such an idea.
BHVR already can't properly balance perks or killers, so why would you add another element to the game that they will probably get wrong? Usage rate are not a good way of doing it either because some regions for example have an entirely different meta where self care is a perk that all 4 survivors take and they all self care in corners of the map.
Just to make clear that I wouldn't suggest to implement this into the main game, just as a side game mode.
I wouldn't differentiate the number of perk points between killers, just that the perk rankings per killer would vary, but each killer would still have the same number of 5-point perks and 1 point perks, etc.
Of course, different people see perks differently. Every content creator has done a perk tier list at some point, and each creator has a slightly different tier list based on their opinion. So Initially the perk points should be based on player usage rates, and then over time the points each perk has been valued at can be amended.
Using your example of self care, this is definitely a top 10 perk in terms of usage rate, therefore it will be a 5-point perk in my suggestion. So people who see self care as meta may still want to spend their points on bringing it to the match, and the ones who don't will just simply not ever choose it. So I'm not sure what the problem is there.

His suggestion is actually really close to my suggestion.
I'm not saying this suggestion should be implemented into the main game, but as a side game mode, like with 2v8 or chaos shuffle. BHVR could introduce it for 2 weeks and see how it plays out. If it flops, it flops. But then we would just simply never see it again. I can't imagine it would require too much effort in creating a system like this for a one-off game mode, but I think a lot of people (like myself) would really enjoy customising our perk builds to suit the system, and I'd enjoy seeing what the other players' builds would be in the end game screen.

This idea comes up every now and then. I think the biggest problem, presuming coding wasn't even an issue, would be on the killer side. The strength of certain perks really varies based on the killer so if we're going off usage rates a perk a killer who can make use of the less used perks would be in an incredibly strong position.
Good point. Maybe for the killer side the perk ranking could be based on each unique killer's usage rate for the perks rather than the overall killer usage rate?
-
Jonah! The first character I unlocked almost 3 years ago! Have used Overcome in almost every match ever since!
-
Yeah, as long as killer aura reading was removed, then I'd be all for it. The kindred perk itself would become almost useless, as killers don't camp anymore. So if the basekit proposal was implemented, then perhaps the kindred perk could be buffed to see survivor's auras when another survivor has been downed which might help with slugging.
-
I'm not sure what the point of this would be aside from a gimmick. It doesn't matter where you move the gens as the killer has permanent aura reading on them.
But an idea for a future survivor perk could be that the survivor could move a gen at a very slow rate, but the generator's aura at its original location would still appear to the killer. So if the killer goes to the gen based on the aura, it wouldn't be there. But because moving the gen would be so slow, the killer will know the gen is nearby anyway. If the survivor has moved it to a location quite far from its original location, then that would be a waste of time for the survivor as they might as well spent that time repairing the gen anyway. It would mostly be a gimmick perk, but could be useful in very specific situations, like maybe helping stretch the distance of a 3-gen.

When you play killer as a beginner, you only need to spend some time learning one killer's power and then eventually start go into a game knowing exactly how you play, because there is no difference in the survivors, except the perks. Within 50 hours, you will be close to an expert level killer if you stick to one killer.
As a new survivor, you have to learn the powers of all 35 killers as well as the perks, and you won't be able to learn any of them consistently, because it's a different killer every time. You will be an expert level survivor after about 2000 hours.
