The return of a good thing
Moving to a kill/escape scoring system was by far the worst idea they had for game health they have ever had.
-if all that mattered was kills, it didn't matter how you got it.
-if escape is all that mattered, the survival of your team really didn't matter.
Returning to a system that uses the entirety of the match is good and honestly I missed it.
I am also somewhat sad these last few years with the current system feels like a waste. Not because it was good, but if we had kept the emblem system and were tweaking it over the past few years we would have gotten a better idea of a real balance in the game
Thank you behavior

Classical choice of development from BHVR. Doing something totally useless, that everbody agrred on being trash, but just pushing it through for no reason. Its actually a big wonder that they finally came to the conclusion to change it again. After several YEARS of everyones hatred. Still dont think they will go through with this. Would be too much of an acknowledgment that they screwed up big time.
It's like the hillbilly rework all over again.
For those who thought the emblem system was completely scrapped, this is a huge change; for those who knew MMR was built on top of emblems all along, it’s business as usual.
I'm honestly a bit bummed about it because I usually don't really play to win and even regularly help Survivors get a few dumb achievements that are nearly impossible to get normally. I usually hooked everyone twice and then turned friendly unless I felt otherwise, am going for an achievement/challenge or the Survivors were a bully squad.
With this change, farming/not sweating & 8-hooking will rocket up the MMR, where I just won't have fun anymore since no one wants to chill at higher MMR and I ain't 8-hooking with 0 kills pros with Nemesis. This applies to every Killer Players that are chill, or at least wanted to be chill.
Side-note. Making it so kills & escape aren't the main components will lock team-slugging Killers (no hooks, absolutely miserable experience) with casual/new players since even if they bleed everyone out every games they won't go up the MMR ladder which means they will never end up against players that will be able to deal with it. Making the new player experience even worse than before.
Hopefully my worries end up being unfounded though, or maybe I'll just have to accept that the days of 8 hooks & 0 kills are over.
I always thought the emblem system was actually quite good and just needed refinement.
Honestly yes. I agree with that. It needed refinement. But they decided a different path for some reason
If you run the killer for 5 gens but still don't escape, was it a skillful play in the first place?
Completely reasonable worries on the slugging end, I'd rather good twins players or snowball heavy killers with Infectious Fright like Plague, Oni etc. not get put into seal clubber territory. As far as what they've said though, it will be comparative on the 'scoring' end to determine who gains MMR between the end tallies for each side, so if its a genuinely one sided match the slugging killer should still get MMR if I'm understanding correctly? I really wish they'd give us more details, because my perceptions are coloured pretty heavily by how other games work, and they could have a wildly different system than what I expect based on the little info slides they've put out.
.... Yes?
Evading a killer is more skillful then just escaping by doing the bare minimum and escaping?
This will mean that as a killer you will be rewarded with low mmr, if you slug survivors without hooking so slug builds getting huge buff, since hooks and match points will make your mmr high, and killing wont matter as much as anymore.
On other hand this further nerf the survivors as if you did few hook saves or did a gen, with few chases, but you died you still be pushed up to face the highest tier killers like nurse blight hillbilly, who can still afford to play for hooks, this will mean that you wont ever escape for most part.
You've perfectly summed up my concerns as well. It's a good direction to make your actions in a trial have greater weight in calculating MMR, but I hope that kills and escapes are still the most important deciding factor when it comes to sorting us all into MMR bands.
I worry that it will be possible to play just about well enough to get trapped into an MMR bracket where you never escape or get any kills, yet your match-making rank never goes down. So you'd be stuck in a bracket that you don't really belong in. And as you point out, it won't accurately place Killers that are slugging the entire team to win their trials.
That said, in practice I don't think the new system will feel any different to the old one. It will still pull in players of all skill levels just to fill a lobby so the queue times stay reasonable (just like it does at the moment).
the emblem era was terrible and just let to burnout since after a while you only saw the same people since skill didn't matter nust doing a checklist.
i'd rather have a kill/escape system than go back to that especially with this mmr you at least have a variety of matches
Do we have any evidence or reason to suspect that running the killer all game and dying still won't be a loss of MMR?
The examples they gave still have a survivor that does a bunch of different stuff. The hypothetical run for 5 gens and die still could be an MMR loss.
That said, in practice I don't think the new system will feel any different to the old one. This is what I suspect as well.
Hmm if we are going by the old emblem system honestly probably not.
But there is also evidence of you potentially keeping current MMR
Old Emblem system up to like Red(irric) rank is rather loose, but it still required some spread of effort(between chase, gens, and other stuff)
I'm not sure where people got the idea that this was going back to the emblem system. Not only do we have Mandy saying its not in another thread, I think the livestream and images made it more clear they were making minor adjustments to the current system instead of a larger overhaul.
They were quoting from an infamous dev stream / Q&A a couple of years ago where a former lead game designer made the comparison between DBD and hockey. In that Q&A, said designer spoke the now immortal words quoted above in defense of the new MMR system. Nobody liked that.
We dont talk about bruno
My boy has a spotless history and was always a great killer. Right?
