It's odd because I like to have purchases made in order to ensure ownership and prevent loss of progress/purchase. I hope the team reconsiders and adds the dlc on all platforms.
Additionally, some players have access to the character without having spent shards? Is the new character meant as a gift or is this a bug?

I'm happy because it means i can buy the character with shards instead of having to feel like i need the dlc so i dont miss out on the exclusive item. But i'd also be fine with dlcs if they didn't have exclusive items.
Well good thing I have shards saved up but would have bought it as a DLC too but hope this is not something that is going to be a norm as I still prefer buying new content in the DLC's through Steam.
this release was very strange, it felt underwhelming, the legendary skin got far more attention than the actual new content, which is the survivor, and even though he could be more interesting (his whole gig is dating the oposite s… 3… x… and being an ai bro), he should've gotten a proper release, mina also is just a skin, some of us thought she would release with a new legendary skin system, but no, she's just and expensive skin, with a mori that reuses her pallet break animation and looks at the camera, i thought there would be a community stream as well, and i didn't see anything, map is gorgeos
Well that certainly is strange. I wonder if this is a new precedent moving forward or just a one-off since it's just a new Survivor this time.
It's almost certainly because he is part of an already existing original chapter that's already bundled on store fronts so making another DLC for him alone is kinda redundant .
Something about this seems fishy to me. BHVR's experiments with their DLC sale stuff has always been kind of sketchy imo.
Like forcefully bundling cosmetics in to jack up the prices (Nic cage + Alien chapter for example) in order to force people to buy auric cells for the cheaper price. Not having it on the store at all when literally every other chapter, even solo survivors with no maps are/were there.
Call it a hunch, but something tells me the underlying reason for this is going to be something to do with increasing the DLC prices on steam or something to do with pricing in general; they've already tweaked it as of Feb this year.
Maybe I'm just being pessimistic but when a change is not clearly communicated, there's usually a bad reason for it. If it were the case that because Trickster is in a bundle, they didn't want this chapter to be standalone (Despite it being treated as a standalone chapter) then why not just say that?
I hate this change. It would mean a normal Chapter with a survivor and killer will be 10 € with cells instead of the normal 8 € that it is in the steam store etc where you also get a bonus outfit or charm. Please don't do this again with future chapters regardless of if they are original or not, just to earn yourself 2 €. Also many people would love to have proof of their purchase in case something happens to your account, you don't have to from buying with cells.
Not going to lie - this is a disappointing, non-sensical change. The fact that I didn’t read or spot this anywhere in the patch notes and that the 1st I’ve found out about this is through a random post is frustrating.
I’ve bought all my DLC for around the last 8 years exclusively through the PSN store. I like to buy things with actual money and it’s nice having the whole add-on history there in one place and makes it easier for re-downloading etc. Occasionally you’d get a bonus badge / banner / cosmetic for doing so too.
I spent all last night refreshing the store and checking on the PSN app waiting for the update to drop instead of what I should’ve been doing - enjoying the new chapter.
I can only imagine that this change coincidentally has been implemented with the increase of the price of auric cells.
I know it’s petty, (I have around 700k shards just so you know, but I’d still always buy the chapter with money) I could literally buy every original chapter for free for the rest of the life of the game - but you can count me out of future DLC (original or licensed) if this isn’t reversed.
Please feel free to share any feedback here so we can communicate it to the team!
The only issue I have with that, is, that there is no gift shop. I would like to have a way to gift characters (and cosmnetics) to my friends. I would understand if it was only possible to gift with auric cells.
Please feel free to share any feedback here so we can communicate it to the team!
Not releasing a dlc, but still making us pay when there are past dlcs that were just base game feels extremely greedy. People have been begging for a free chapter for a while and this would have been the perfect time to do it since there was no plan to release a dlc. That's my opinion.
Edit: For further clarification, yes iri shards may be free but they take countless hours to obtain, 9k shards may have been completely free to obtain, but it did cost your time and energy to get. So even if it's not a monetary fee, there was still a fee for it.
Welp they did it again with Shane. He is also in-game store only with no telling why. Even with all the negative feedback they did it again and people seem even more annoyed this time on the steam forum and reddit.

this is the last time I get a character that's exclusive to the in game store. Removing choice from players is a terrible move
Not really sure why people are freaking out over this, the character is buyable with shards so I don't really see this being part of any kind of agenda. People are just being paranoid.
I don't think I've ever bought a DLC off of steam it's always been off the in game store and in 10 years I've never had any issues when it comes to characters I've bought.

You lose out of proof of purchase with the in-game store, nor do you get
a bonus cosmetic or charm like with other dlc's, you can't familiy share among other things.
Just see all the issues with people losing out of their coins and stuff atm.

Or people would want to support the game but don't want to use money in the ingame store.

Oh, I mean I don't care about any of those things so that's fine. Also BHVR has made you be able to receive bonus cosmetics from in store purchases before which leads me to believe they simply didn't make any for Shane. Also nobody really owns anything in DBD even if you buy off steam. The second severs shut down it's all lost anyway or if you get banned it's also lost but you kinda know that going in.
I think they did it to get more money. My family and I play dbd on ps5. With the family sharing the main account bought the dlc and all other family members were able to play that character. Since it isn't a dlc anymore every family member has to buy the character now.

If you for some reason lose your dlc through ingame store you can't prove you have it. You can on steam by showing the purchase history. But it is okay you don't care, but seems like a loooot of people actually do care a lot about this and the consumer side of it all.

there is zero issue with people having options in where they buy characters at. All your doing is defending a corporation in taking away people's choice.

Nothing in particular I just don't get why it's a big deal but it is very funny to have people tell me I'm defending a corporation because of that as if this is the biggest problem they have rn and it's some moral outrage although that is very in character for the community.

Well you don't have to understand. People want different things. I myself would prefer buying the characters from Steam as i want to support the game by using real money. I don't myself like using ingame currencies as I never saw any point in those. Still yeah they should have not done the corporation statement.
I'm not sure how they are expecting to make more money off the chapter when they are forcing more people to resort to shards rather than pay for it. Can still get auric cells but why would anyone use that when thr character itself is cheaper in shards than a cosmetic

This is what I dont understand, I used to buy DLCs, sometimes they came with like a extra generic stuff (remember one in Jonah release)

Really odd they rather players use iri shards.
Infact i had a couple games in the steam cart waiting for shane's dlc to buy it all in one go. And then... he just shows up in the games store for free.. so i got him and half his outfits for shards. Its like the one game where we're like "why didn't you make me pay for it?"
A very odd decision. This was not advertised as being a game store exclusive during the anniversary stream. In fact, when the "dlc released" the dbd website had dead links to store pages. At minimum we deserve communication on if this is the new norm. But I sense that players are generally unhappy with this decision.

That's… new.

Perhaps they thought he wouldn't sell that well, so decided not to pay whatever the fee is for DLC add-ons and just keep him in the in-game store
Please feel free to share any feedback here so we can communicate it to the team!
To me it's mainly a question of why you chose to not release him on storefronts. At the very least, it breaks the convention.
So.. why not?

I hate this. I always buy the DLC from the store for the exclusive cosmetic, and then generally get DLC for a friend who I know can't afford it.
Just going to skip this until the DLC is properly in the Steam store.

doubt it's just because it's only a new survivor. Since Steady Pulse was also just a survivor and has a proper DLC page
It's almost certainly because he is part of an already existing original chapter that's already bundled on store fronts so making another DLC for him alone is kinda redundant .
Who cares? It doesnt mean anything and it doesnt change anything.

Does that mean the twitch exclusive shirt is actually his steam store purchase bonus lmao

Yeah, it's a negative Steam review from me until the DLC is available there as it should be. There's a pricing change stink looming over this.
Yeah I don't like it either. Mikaela and Orela were/are available on stores as originals as Mid chapters. This shouldn't be chapter 39 but 38.5.
Please make dlc, will not buy without it. i would like the security of owning it

He ain't even got the Steam Achievements available.
I won't buy and play that guy until I can do his Adept and whatever the side achievement will be.
So wait how do you get the "Dark Bomber" jacket then? Says "Currently Unavailable" for me.
This is not obtainable at this time!
Ah okay, actually just saw that apparently creators that got codes for him have it funny enough.
