The Judgement's Mori does NOT fit what was voted for.

The Chorus of Sin chapter is finally on early access and a lot of stuff look really cool. But I have to ask: is the Mori animation still unfinished? Because the best part of the concept that was voted is missing. And I dare to say, it's such a brutal and noteworthy part and so different from any mori already in the game, that I think it's probably the main reason why this mori concept got voted over the other one.

For anyone who doesn't remember, the voted concept was this:

image.png

This got 79.14% of all votes. Almost 80% of voters chose this over the other mori option, that ended with a beheading. And must I ask: did people vote this because they liked the idea of the Judgement making the survivor float in the air with their power?

Well, I don't think so, I think people voted for this because they wanted to see the survivor being ripped in half! THAT was the main seeling point of this mori concept!

But it doesn't happen on the mori available on early access. The only similarity is the floating part. Sure, the survivor is toasted, but that happened in the other option too, so it was not the reason why people voted for this one. The animation of the killer's head and eye look awesome and all, but that's in place of the third panel, it doesn't justify removing the MOST IMPORTANT part of the mori the community VOTED for, which is the one on the last panel.

Comments

  • No splitting the bodies in half 😭

  • that concept art goes pretty hard! what did they do to it?

  • The current mori is neat but yeah, not exactly what the community voted for. BHVR should fix it. Please and thank you :)

  • Oh, and before someone say there was a technical limitation or something, the survivor's model gets replaced with a generic "scorched person" model during the animation, so it shouldn't suffer the same restraint as the usual survivor models do. It should be possible for the same reason there was a beheading on the other option. And if some technical limitations still make this mori impossible, well, than it shouldn't have been promised in a voting option to begin with. People voted this because of how cool and unique the ripping in half looked.

  • Yeah I wanna see that last panel
mori for anyone who has not seen.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3Zq-HVtGaE
  • Yeah i voted that because splitting a surv in half looked cool. I hope they don't skimp on that.

  • The whole community voted chapter was a bunch of "here's cool concepts to vote on" followed up by "oh this is actually technically challenging so we did something else instead".

BHVR should have had a better understanding of their own limitations before asking us to vote on concepts they couldn't deliver on.

  • This content has been removed.
  • Yeah I voted on it for that exact reason, right now the end of the mori kind of feels like the mori we just got with Jason: it just kind ends with a charred corpse. Also don't know if it's a glitch, but for some reason the charred corpse disappears, reappears for a second, and then disappears again. If it's not unintentional, I hate to say it but it just looks janky.

The rest of the mori looks super sick, but I really hope they fix the ending to be closer to what we voted on.

  • I noticed this as well. Quite disappointing, tbh. Why give us a concept to vote on and then just … ignore what was voted on?

  • I'm overall dissapointed from the chapter. Visually it looks awesome but, perks got voted and they are lackluster… They want to home in on diverse meta but keep releasing awfull perks.

    Judgment:

Obsession perk - probably the best one while still not so good. Perk shows obsession if further than 40m, otherwise someone furtherst become obsession. Perk can show obsession every 30s without any range requirement and still be mid.

Gen perk - for each charge it has it regresses 2 % faster, meaning gen with 70 charges will regress 240 % with a cooldown. But unless you hold some gens it won't matter as survivors will stop it asap so why run it over ruin, eruption, overcharge or whatever? If they just make that each 10 % completed on gen will result in 2 % more damage = 50 % done gens would immidiately lose 20 charges the perk might see some use, but over other gens perks that are meta non contender at all.

Hex: haste - got buffed from 25 % to 15 % while this is fine it's hex anyway and with vigil and sb nerf it will give way less value as lithe forces killers to go around window alrady losing distance. This doesn't count to haste after being hit btw for some reason.

    Aurora:

Chase perk - if you start chase you see other players for 3s and they see you and killer for 5s (what is this perk?) Quick gambit which is already underused perk reveals players all the time, give them gen boost. This perk needs gigabuffs to be at least nieche. When you start chase you see other survivors aura for 12s and they see yours and killers aura for 10s

Gen perk - done perk gives token each token = 5 % haste for 2s and 20 % healing progress… just worse adrenaline that gives you something in the mid game but it's not worth over tens of much better healing and distance perks. They can probably leave it as is but this perk won't be popular either it will be in "come and get me" class where the perk has it's value but won't result in anything else than nieche scenarios where you finish healing when killer tunneles you from gen, then someone pops last gen you get healed again and people will complain like it was with old adrenaline. The most bizare scenarios will be extremely frustrating for the killer while the perk would still be okish at best.

Boon: waste your time - set a boon to repair 10 % faster and make gen regress 50 % slower… mamma mia, this result in 9s less gen time if you work uninterrupted + 12s blessing a totem. Just run deja vu and you will do better without wasting time while also preventing three gens. This boon is a joke even when combined with illumination. The perk supposed to remove permanent progress, that's what community voted for and we got boon: waste your time to get slightly better repair speed Such a shame, we haven't got good boon since Jonah and only two boons were added and they both suck.

Mori - dissapointed, not what we voted for.

Cosmetic - dissapointed not what we voted for.

On top of that killer looks so hard to play that she will most likely result in under 1 % pick rate very soon. Poor god girl.

  • I'm very disappointed with the results. It feels so underwhelming to me. If they knew that they couldn't split the survivor in half, why include it in the storyboard? I feel lied to.

  • Ill also make mention that the death animation of dieing in the hopless exile is also just as underwhelming as Trapper's mori.

  • Makes you wonder if they are just wanting to push the chapter out as fast as possible and forget about it after

  • True. Splitting the survivor in half way the main reason why I voted for the mori since it gave it the final impact of this cool mori. Now the end feels a bit underwhelming - still a cool mori but we know that it was supposed to be

  • It is disappointing; it would be nice if they at least gave me an explanation, but we're not even getting that, and I'd say the skin problem is more serious.

Because as they stated they did not know it would not work. Like you don't always know until you try to make it.

I only saw it by chance - I hate that transparency only happens when we ask them and then they only response in the random comments with a random nothing-burger. There was enough time tell us that the winner mori needs to be turned down a bit due to reason xy.

I also don't understand what they mean with that. Krasue's mori is much more disgusting than the mori winner and still, they needed to turn it down.

  • I feel like BHVR underestimated how much players have no idea how projects like these work. Having to make changes like this happens all the time either due to limitations, time crunch, etc but most people don't know that so when all these changes have to happen people are going to feel like the votes didn't mean anything when in reality they did it's just the community thought they were voting for the exact chapter when in reality we were more like consultants.

It was mentioned in the linked comment, but this was a new process for the team, which came with lots of really valuable learnings. Given how many pieces come together to form the whole of a chapter (and a Killer, in this case), these different pieces all impact production timelines by different degrees, whether you're looking at the Killer design, UI elements, VFX, etc.

Because of that, sometimes changes need to be made to the plans or intentions we have for individual pieces of the puzzle during development to ensure the whole is as strong as can be.

That said, whether it's learnings on the development side or learnings on the side of how we share details/changes about this process (as folks have shared here), they're equally important things we're taking to heart.

It's understandable that things need to be changed due to reasons or you cannot do promised stuff but for the future, it would be nice when you could tell us these things before we find them out by ourselves. There was enough time and chances to tell us "hey we need to change the mori a little bit because of xy". I know it's bad to share bad news but it's much better than this situation.

my question is why have us vote at all if you’re not going to deliver on what was voted for. This is a community voted for chapter right? But it doesn’t feel like it at all. If things needed more time in the oven to deliver what we voted for then you should’ve delayed the chapter.

The killer looks terrible to play and apart from getting her adept i’m not going to play her. Pretty good job so far.

I feel like if something that was voted for couldn't be achieved, it should have been put up for a vote again. It feels like nearly every aspect of the killer ended up facing challenges and this meant that anything we voted for got scrapped so it doesn't even feel like a community chapter. The power (both the active beam and passive sin/artifact parts), mori, killer appearance, the boon perk, Even the music has been dialed back.

It just isn't really a community chapter if everything the community wanted is disregarded in favour of what is easier to make, especially you guys gave us those things as options.

Well, I'll start my comment by thanking you for taking your time and giving us answers. However…

I must say, this still doesn't feel acceptable at all. One thing is when a feature from a cosmetic from the community contest can't be made accurately because of technical limitations the PLAYER who designed it wasn't aware of. The other is when the DEVS themselves put under vote something that already seems very bold and hard to do compared to most animations already in the game and, after the far majority votes for it, THEN you say it's not possible to do it due to technical limitations.

After ten years, we expect the devs to know the extent of the game's technical limitations. But mainly, when the devs put something under vote as part of a chapter that is advertised as being MADE BY THE COMMUNITY, we assume they are sure they can do that, that they confirmed it before putting it under vote. When an option is given for the players to DECIDE how a feature from the chapter will be and in the end it's different, we feel lied to. In effect, something was promised but not delivered.

My first thought is that something similar should have been tested before it was made into a vote option, specially since the grimoire was already going for many months before the mori vote. But if testing something like that would not be viable, then maybe, knowing the game always had technical limitations, don't give us such bold and ambitious promises in the vote options if nobody knew for sure if they could be made.

Like, seriously, even us players are by now used to the fact that certain forms of brutality are not possible in the moris due to technical limitations, so the devs must have known that ripping a survivor in half was a HUGE leap that could be impossible. But the moment when it showed up on an option for vote made available by the devs themselves, we thought they had figured it out just like they did with Krasue. Afterall, they wouldn't give us the oportunity to pick something they couldn't deliver, right?

Another option would be to reopen the Grimoire to choose a mori again once the devs realized the already voted one was simply impossible. I understand it's not the best advertisement to say "I know you already voted this, but we are opening the vote again because we couldn't deliver the last one", but it's still better than suddenly getting a third option nobody voted for. Seriously, I doubt the mori we are getting with the chapter would have won a vote over the beheading option. A lot of people would have voted that second mori option if the first one didn't have the split in half thing.

Hell, now I think that, if the second option had won the vote, the actual mori would have ended up being more accurate to the original concept, even if the head had to explode like it happens in the Krasue mori (instead of falling off like in the Grimoire's concept). That would be something. The one we are getting doesn't have anything close to the most brutal part of its original concept.

Honestly, by the responses they gave, it's not fully clear if the split-in-half part of the mori was impossible to do or if it was impossible only within the time they had. And if it would be possible to do it with more time, then yeah, I wish they had delayed the chapter instead of giving us something different from what was voted.

Or even better, I hope they still take time to try to bring that mori to life. Because if they COULD do it with more time and chose not to do it, that's a huge letdown.

Kinda makes sense that the current mori was easier and faster to do since they already had the survivor model. Jason's mori already has the burnt survivor model, so transferring it over rather than making a split in half model is alot easier.
