Is there any realistic reason to play Deathslinger over Huntress now?

Let's compare what they have:

  • Huntress has 5 hatchets, and the effects of the power can be buffed directly with various add-ons, Slinger has only 1 shot that injures and deep wounds and has to reload after every shot, and his add-ons don't modify his power wind up.
  • Deathslinger has a max range of 18 meters, Huntress has an infinite range and the shots can cross hills and various obstacles.
  • Deathslinger can be bodyblocked quite hard, and basically nullify the the effect of iridescent coin, Huntress is very hard to bodyblock in all cases.
  • Deathslinger is very weak at camping, Huntress is a monster at camping, especially the basement or hills or open areas, and slugging in open areas.
  • If you miss a shot with Huntress you don't lose much distance, if you miss with Deathslinger it's a massive shift W for the survivors.
  • If you hit a long range hit with deathslinger most likely you won't get the hit because the chain will break, if you hit a long range distance with Huntress it's a guaranteed down.
  • Max charged Huntress' hatchets go at the same speed of Deathslinger shots, and have a bigger hitbox.
  • Huntress' hatchets have a harder hitbox to dodge, Deathslinger shots are much easier to dodge.

huntress can hit over pallets, deathslinger can't when they're injured.

  • Deathslinger is forced to break very tall and long safe loops when dropped, huntress can try to play around them.
  • Huntress has stronger add-ons in general and one that can instadown consistently if you know what you are doing, one that causes exhaustion to counter Dead hard, Deathslinger doesn't have any of that.
  • If you miss a deathslinger shot due to Dead hard it can be a massive shift W, if you miss a shot due with Huntress on average you just wasted a hatchet.
  • With Deathslinger you have a bigger terror radius but no lullaby, Huntress has a 45 meters lullaby.
  • If you have good reaction time you can dodge a Deathslinger shot with DH, same with Huntress but she has 5 hatchets.
  • Staying injured against Deathslinger is much more profitable, staying injured against Huntress can be deadly.
  • Huntress can try to outplay god pallets throwing over them, Deathslinger cannot.
  • Huntress moves just a bit slower than Deathslinger when charging a hatchet, but can move faster right before throwing a hatchet, Deathslinger slows down.
  • Very good Huntresses can throw shots to stop gens with Dead Man's Switch or injure across the map, Deathslinger can not.

The things at which Deathslinger is better are very few, for example he can reel chains through walls, and play a bit hit and run, (which doesn't matter if they have circle of healing or strong medkits), but then what?

Comments

  • Huntress doesn't have a gun

  • I’ve actually been playing deathslinger, even though his nerf hurt him pretty bad he’s still pretty good to use. I think his zoning is still just as strong cause if you ADS since you move so fast you can actually just follow them while ADS the whole time. But he’s really not that bad. Everyone makes him out to be the weakest killer now. But he’s not

  • because you like him more??!! really isnt that deep tbh

  • If you have more fun with Deathslinger, play Deathslinger.

Otherwise, we could ask the question "Is there any realistic reason to play any Killer over Nurse?".

  • Not really no. Which is why I dropped him completely after 2 games of testing his nerfs.

Yes, if for example everyone is using flashbangs that burn you out of power, or they stealth your corrupt intervention, that's it, you're slower at hunting survivors out of stealth, and not that good at camping. You suffer Dead hard.

With Plague you can use Blood Echo with add-ons to make the infection last 40+20+30 seconds on the gens, and either force everyone to be injured or wait a massive amount of time, and if they all get injured you deny any Dead Hards, and at that point where everyone is injured you're a camping monster.

  • honestly fun purposes I find deathslinger to still be pretty fun was his strength weakened? Yeah definitely

  • Deathslinger is currently the weakest killer in the game so the only reason to play him over any other killer is only for fun

  • What happened to Deathslinger was a crime against humanity. RIP zombie cowboy, the world is a darker place without you.

  • "Is there any realistic reason to play Deathslinger over Huntress now?"

    Because you want to.

  • It'd make him a bit more intimidating if the environment couldn't break the chain. That and make his range like 20ishm instead.

  • He has a multitude of advantages over Huntress. I’ll try to explain:

    1. He deals with “Hold W” survivors better. Being able to M2 cancel quicker mid-chase is an underrated advantage. Plus many survivors will attempt to dodge M2 fakes. This was actually a buff within a nerf for him.
    2. He does not have to break chase to reload.
    3. He shoots way quicker than huntress. Huntress does throw beach balls, but she has to wind up, then charge if you want a hit. DS, once you get used to the ADS timing, can be quite rapid in his shots.
    4. He utilizes STBFL better than Huntress. His M1, M2, M1 can be as quick a double tap as Huntress can achieve.
    5. He does not have a lullaby. He can utilize terror radius perks that Huntress cannot. Tinkerer, Hysteria, M&A all work better on DS and make sense on him.

If it’s not obvious, I like playing DS way more than Huntress. She is a slow moving tank. He’s a killer that just runs down survivors. I find his chase a more aggressive playstyle which fits me better.

  • Because they don't play even slightly alike and never have? The only thing they have in common is a ranged component.

If it's about who's the strongest, then why play Huntress when you could play Nurse or Blight or Spirit? If it's about the strongest ranged killer, then sure, but there's no reason to highlight Deathslinger specifically when Huntress is and always has been the strongest ranged killer period.

    Yes, pain.

Some like sting, degradation, the humiliation or so I'm told

  • Deathslinger can reel in survivors who decide to stick around the gate. Huntress can't reel them in once they reach the safety net.

My point is, if we start analyzing every aspect of a Killer, we end up on: "Why not play Nurse?"

People should play the Killers they like, but also dont expect a 4K every time when they play a Killer who might be weaker than others.

  • Is there any reason to play Dbd over hollow knight (or perhaps valorant, happy now @TheGannMan?) right now?

    no.

Every day more killers are asking themselves this question

Are you sure he's the weakest? Remember that he can use Starstruck and other instadown perks very well

  • He doesn’t have to go to lockers to reload and you can use basic attack/Exposed perks on him pretty well. You can also get the injure by just landing a shot in some situations huntress wouldn’t be able to, even if you can’t reel them in. And even though his TR is 32m, that still isn’t a 45m lullaby.

There’s no question that Huntress is the stronger killer though.

who gives a #########? not everyone is as sweaty as blight/nurse mains. i think some of you guys are trapped in the mindset of having to win every single match, uwu i have to slug for 4k :), that you'd ask this question.

I strongly believe, as a matter of a fact it is always possible to reduce the difference between killers with buffs and nerfs and changes to the game.

    Yeah but that takes effort

the truth is there is none and it needs to be fixed, lol

  • I disagree. For example, you see that Clown is weaker than Doctor and below the 50% kill rate against very strong players? You buff the speed that the yellow bottles give you, you buff the hindred effect of purple bottles by 5%, you give him an extra bottle. Sometimes just a direct buff makes a killer massively better and fun to play

This is why you don't bring a gun to a hatchet fight. Hatchets have always been the stronger, faster, more reliable weapons in hunting.

    Perhaps so...

  • Huntress isn't a cowboy.

  • Expose Slinger has been working out for me. Helps make those shots feel more decisive.

  • @Aven_Fallen said:

Probably because nurse's camera makes some people dizzy and the next best thing which is blight can make people dizzy too, but if you are talking about your skill actually mattering in a match there is no reason to play anything but nurse/blight/spirit, spirit being the most fun of those imo.

  • Deathslinger has a top hat

I remember my first match as Deathslinger after his nerf against a pretty good swf and I was still able to pull off good shots because I ADS a bit earlier than normal. Now it feels like an actual range killer that requires some effort in aiming. Before, you just look at the survivor, and BOOM... reel them in.

  • There is Deathslingers chase music, which is pretty much a banger. And I like Slinger style and visuals. But all this are pretty weak and soft reasons..
