The Hillbilly

I'll try to be respectful with this: the change to Hillbilly is one of the most unnecessary killer changes.

The developer update states that the devs were happy with how Hillbilly performed. If this is true, then why was he changed?

There's no good reason for Hillbilly to get this nerf. The developer update says it's to make him require more skill, and be more punishing for misusing his power. The question is, what determines skill? WHO determines skill? It's very hard to determine skill in this game because there are so many different variables. Like maps, perks, how good the survivors are, swf, among other things. Making a killer harder and less easy to use, especially one of the (debatably) most balanced killers, is not the way to go about improving the health of the game.

Many of his add-ons are also disappointments. Neither of his ultra-rares are deserving of the rarity, and his best add-ons are brown and yellow. The developers seem to be afraid of making strong add-ons. Which I kind of get, we do have iridescent head which is stupidly strong with infantry belt. But there's just been this trend of ultra-rare add-ons making the killer worse, or not being very strong. Just look at Oni with Renjiro's bloody glove. Or Deathslinger with Iridescent coin. If an add-on is ultra rare, it needs to make the killer stronger, and this is not the case with Hillbilly's add-ons.

First iridescent: Lopro chains; allows you to continue sprinting after breaking a pallet. On paper, this sounds good and somewhat scary to go against. But when you think about how pallets are used and placed in maps, you realize that this add-on isn't actually very helpful. When you do break a pallet, the survivor that threw it down has already turned out of the way of your chainsaw sprint, stopping you from hitting them, so it's better to just break the pallet and stop using your power, since now it can overheat. And then it's also got a speed limiter on it, which makes no sense. The ability it gives you is not strong enough to justify taking away his insta down. The add-on would be okay if it didn't have such a huge downside.

Change: remove the speed limiter. There's no reason for this add-on to have a downside.

Second iridescent: Iridescent Brick; you gain the undetectable status effect after chainsawing for 5 seconds. Chainsawing moves you across the map, very fast. And 5 seconds is a long time to be chainsawing. There are very few maps where you could actually chainsaw for that long, without running into something or running out of room and having to stop. In fact, several maps were recently made smaller. And, the survivors can still hear the chainsaw while you're sprinting, unless you happen to be running the add-on that makes his chainsaw silent to survivors outside his terror radius. Any survivor who's at least slightly attentive, will not be fooled by this add-on.

Change: decrease the required sprint time from 5 seconds to 2.5 or 3 seconds. 5 seconds is just too long.

I don't know what was going through the minds of the developers when they decided that these were good changes to make. My best guess is that since giving the doctor's ability a cooldown worked, it would work with Hillbilly. (seriously it seems like someone at behavior is obsessed with cooldowns) But it really doesn't work very well, just like with the Nurse. That's kind of what this is, the nurse nerf all over again. A basekit change that makes playing them even harder, and iridescent add-ons that don't deserve to be iridescent.

I know that the ptb just came out. And it could be too early to say that the Hillbilly change shouldn't be implemented. Before the ptb came out I tried to be optimistic about it, thinking it wouldn't be too big of a deal. But that's exactly what happened with the Nurse nerf, and look what happened. She's even harder to play and is (probably) one of the least played killers.

Not trying to be disrespectful, but your wasting your breath! The way the devs actions have been lately these past few killer nerfs, I doubt they'll consider any changes, listen to any feedback, or think about the impact Billys changes has on the killer community.

I really don't understand why BHVR is nerfing him, as community the only thing we can do is just let DE do as they please and whenever one sides queue times are like 30 minutes to an hour+ long, they'll realize their mistakes and by the time they try to undo it, it'll be too late because they refused to listen to their community. Veteran players at least!

  • If you really want the devs to read this then put it in the place specifically for ptb feedback.

  • Yeah... the characters with simple powers of mobility are regarded as top teir. Just able to Travers the map is all it takes to be hated.

But its also easy to use unlike everything else.

    Freddy

Sleep is passive and gen teliport requires no setup and snares are massive and have no limit on placement.

    Spirt.

    Walk fast hehe

  • “I think I speak for the majority of this community when I say, this Hillbilly change is one of the worst ideas conjured by the developers.”

No, not really. You don’t speak for anywhere near the majority of the community, most of whom just play the game without posting on forums, so please don’t presume to speak for everyone.

  • Its sad that people still want to misinterpretate everything devs say, and dont want to understand the most obvious arguments.

  • No offense, you don't speak for anyone. The forums are not representative of the whole community. I know it, you know it, the devs know it.

  • @Midori_21 @emptyCups @MigrantTheGreat so many posts like these, essentially the nature of these posts is a request for information. Better to think on these things:

    1) They don't owe you, or anyone, an explanation.

    2) They are not going to come onto the forums and verbally joust with people like they need to justify their decisions, it's their game.

    3) Asymmetrical games need to be thought of like a large sliding scale of balance between survivor and killer. I'm sure the needle did not start in the exact middle and as years come and go and new content is made they continually adjust that needle as they see fit. They look at the big picture, we often look with biased eyes.

    4) The quicker you can mentally and emotionally come to grips with #'s 1-3 the less stress and more enjoyable this .... and many other things in life will be.

(EDIT) also change your title, its just bad, it does not say anything about its content and is just attempted clickbait for the devs.

"I'll try to be respectful with this: I think I speak for the majority of this community when I say, this Hillbilly change is one of the worst ideas conjured by the developers."

You most def do not speak for the majority of this community so there is that and one of the worst ideas conjured by the devs is hardly being respectful now is it?

    As for your actually post:

You question statements but then make questionable statements of your own "what determines skill?" vs your own "one of the most balanced killers". The reason was: they were looking at Bubba and picked Hillbilly (as a fellow chainsaw enthousiast) to look at while they were at it, and apparently they found some stuff they did not really like about how he preformed.

Im not going to go into addons, I firmly believe all addons should be removed completely, then killer should be rebalanced to be viable stock, then addons can be added back but they are no longer straight buffs, instead they CHANGE the way things work, give and take, better in some ways, worse in others.

The Nurse rework is pretty fantastic and I guess indeed you nailed it with the comparison, the problem is that these killers can just willynilly use their power whenever they please and they do, they can use them for mobility and downs. That non-stop powerusage is what makes them questionable especially in the Nurse case.

But dont get it twisted, a good nurse who just waits to get both her blinks back, which honestly does not take long, will destroy a team still.

This is going to be the same for billy, you have to make a choice where to use your chainsaw and with what purpose, you can't just brainlessly use it all the time, that is where the requirement of skill comes in.

Now im not saying they did not go a tad overboard with the changes, but that is something that can just be tweaked, its just numbers, but the core idea is fine imo.

I completely disagree with your assessment on Nurse. Using a power "willynilly" doesn't do anything but use your power and move you.

If you're just spamming it randomly and without skill you're only going to get reward if survivors literally walk in front of you. I ######### hate this argument.

How is a rework good if there's even less usable addons than before it and now 2 of them are pretty much mandatory to run if you want to have even a remotely good time?

  • Keep in mind that they achieved the exact opposite of "more skill" because they cutted his curving ability (which requires a lot of skill) and just made him weaker.

The point is that you should not and currently are not really able to.

You could use the Nurse to first, get to a gen fast and then immediately attack a survivor with it as well without and need to consider things.

That is currently different, when you have blinked to a gen, you now have to assess more then before whether or not you should wait a bit and get your blinks back or go for the attack with only one blink, that requires more from the player now then it did before, that is a good thing.

And with new billy its the same thing, you have to make a choice a bit between the mobility or the instadown function, you dont just have both but you have the options available.

Personally I dont care much for add ons, I never use them on anyone.

You're someone who's clearly never played Nurse, or at least not for a long time.

Nothing the cooldown did made anything more skillful. It just made it more aggravating and annoying than anything else. Everything I had to do before the changes I still have to do now. Only change is I have to let them run away for longer before I can do anything useful.

And you imply that this has raised her skill ceiling, when in fact it actually lowered it and raised her skill floor.

  • funny how they say, they make smal changes, while they changed all of his add ons and his power. lol.

  • There aren't enough Spirits.

    They want more Spirit players.

  • you do NOT speak for most of the community, on the contrary, it's safe to assume that most of the community will be absolutely okay with hillbillynerfs seeing as hillbillyplayers are a minority among a minority (actual killer mains) among a minority (redranks, people who play this game with ridiculous hours) and among THAT minority you're a minority of people who watch billyplayers or participate on the forums.

Im merely saying its harder to play her now, you cant just spam your abilities non stop, there are moments where you have to wait.

When to do that, to assess the current situation, that is where a bit of skill comes in, you just cant spam your ability borderline mindlessly until you get someone, you have to be more deliberate with your blinks, you have to know when its better to wait.

It is not skillful to instantly analyze an area upon landing there with your blink and in that 1.5 second blink window be able to accurately charge the right distance and aim it correctly to secure a blink?

That seems a lot more skillful than just having to sit still for 3 seconds before you can play again.

1-2. Your right! But every action has a consequence, or the law of unintended consequences happens than your left wondering "What did I do when?"

    3. BHVR is no where near looking at the bigger picture, there taking smaller pictures and fitting it into the bigger picture just to realize months later the smaller picture doesn't fit in! For example they didn't see how much of an impact nerfing Ruin had on the killer community, so they did a band-aid fix and the problem was still there so now they are planning on adding a early game collapse because of their failure to look at the bigger picture!

    4. That's why I've been playing Dbd less and less, so that I'm not stressing about it, because killer is becoming more stressful due to DE making killers use more skill, while survivor is becoming more boring to me simply because it's not as interactive or skillful as killer!

Statistically only 0-1% of players should complain about the billy nerfs. But DBD is on fire right now, says a lot about it when even survivor mains and people who shouldnt care about it, care about it ;)

  • lol I actually do miss the days of "Juking billies". Kind of funny tbh. Same with Demogorgon. The nerfs are more or less going to be for content creators. Since this game draws attention for "joke videos" that get posted online of players abusing certain killers.

  • I would of just been happy if the ability to 'feather' the chainsaw so Hillbilly walks around with it aloft was removed, and then added his perk updates.

I mean I bought the game before they hated the killer role.

I give honest feedback every ptb that I participate in

The balance or no, changes or no, there "right" to do whatever "changes" they want. I'm always as a player going to tell them when I'm having fun or not. And when I'm in forums I'm going to discuss

why I like things or Why I don't

Because that 1-5 stars end match doesn't tell them what isnt working.

I've studied game design in college for a year now. And being here with this toxic community has really helped me learn alot about how to and how not to make a game.
