[Devs do something] Taken hostage on Thompson House by a spirit.

I've was playing a game with my SwF the map was Thompson. when a friend was downed the spirit picked him up then put him at top of thompson house then go away. I told my team that i go save him and then once i've saved him the spirit came back and block the stairs. With no way to escape we had to DC's.

I've reported him i hope you will do something about and fix the bad map design with it too.

  • That was not taking the game hostage.

You could've just go back and do gens with your friends. At a point she would have to chose to either hook the one on the ground and camp to get at least one kill, or go after you guys.

She was using your downed friend as bait but she was not preventing the game to finish

You weren’t taken hostage, you fell for the bait. Your team could have just rushes the gens, which are very easy to do now, and let your friend die for the sake of the team.

Holding the game hostage is when the killer prevents you from doing anything and you can’t complete objectives. An example of being held hostage is getting body blocked in a room or corner by the killer and the only option you have for the game to end is to DC.

If your friend was slugged, they would have bled out. If they were on the hook, they would have died, therefore the match wasn’t held hostage.

Does it suck that they camped, yea, but devs set the rules, and with how fast the game goes these days, I can’t blame killers who choose to.

  • I really wish there was a vault point to get off the balcony.

  • Were there other people still alive who weren't being held hostage and were able to do generators?

I may be misinterpreting OP, but it seems like spirit stood on the stairs preventing them from leaving the house. Which is the same as body blocking someone in a room.

  • If other people were alive then the game could end, so it wasn’t holding the game hostage.

  • Yah, that's not holding the game hostage.

If the other survivors finished the gens and triggered the End Game Collapse, Spirit would still get 2 kills out of it

Spirit's points would be crap though.

That being said, it's probably not a bad idea for the devs to break one of the railings at the stairs to give survivors another way out in case of situations like that. I wouldn't put a vault point off the balcony to the field, that would make the house WAY too safe.

There isn’t enough information. We’re they both slugged? Was there a gen upstairs that he could have worked on?

If one was on the hook, and the other slugged, they weren’t held hostage. They were bait. They would have died eventually and the game would have ended.

If they both were not slugged, or hooked, and they had no way out of the second floor, then they were held hostage.

Most likely at least one was hooked, and the rescuer got slugged.

Um, he said he made the save, then killer stood on the stairs. Sounds like they were both standing, and killer body blocked the stairs. The stairs are literally the only way out of the house.

Thanks for pointing that out. But still, not enough info. Was there a gen they could have worked on? After making the save, did they remain unharmed when they got blocked in or did the killer slug them and hook one again? Was there an uncompleted gen they could have worked on?

Im not siding with the killer, I’m just pointing out what holding the game hostage is, and that we need more information.

They were both standing at the top of the stairs with the killer blocking them but there were other survivors in the game that were not in the house.

The other survivors is the reason this scenario isn't considered holding the game hostage as they can do gens and activated egc which would end the game.

  • Yes, but the question is were they the last 2 people on the map. If the answer is yes - then that is certainly holding the game hostage and reportible.

However, if there there was anybody else on the map free to d gens and open a gate - that triggers the end game collapse and the game is forced close - ergo, the game itself is not being held hostage.

It's a ######### way to play, but since technically it allows the spirit to get a couple kills out of it, they're working toward the objective of the killer and thus are not holding the game hostage.

That being said, I believe there needs to be a gap added to the railings of the stairs to allow survivors a second exit to prevent this as it is a ######### way to play.

It is because my two others teammate escape with a key so no EGC.

  • Note to self, crawl out of house if ever dragged up there by a killer.

It's not technically bodyblocking or game hostage. It's a dirty tactic she baited and you fell for. She forced a easy 2k because of the situation. Both you and the other survivor were able to do stuff the option was limited, but it was available. As long as the game can physically end without either playing DCing then the rules state it's not holding the game hostage. 2 other survivors were able to complete and finish the gens and leave which would start EGC.

You could of forced a hit and both of you left the house by angering the Spirit, but you decided to DC which oddly enough is the only reportable offense from the information provided.

  • Then you need video evidence since that is reportable.

"once i've saved him the spirit came back and block the stairs."

I mean, even if the other 2 complete every gen, these 2 are doomed to, at the very least, egc death. Guaranteeing a 2k for the killer just standing there. At the very least, it is an exploit, and exemplifies the necessity of at least one alternative method for leaving the house. Even if it's just a vault point that puts you down next to the stairs.

  • Shouldn't you be more annoyed that your team mates left you with a key when they could be doing gens for free.

Edit: wait...all the gens are done, why didn't your friends just open the gates?

  • Then that's holding the game hostage and definitely against the rules. If I were you, I'd edit your original post using the gear in the upper right to reflect this so their's no question in people's mind what happened.

  • While the Game might end, it is not really cool to stay there for several minutes without escaping. Even if you block one Survivor in the Corner at the start of the game, it would not be considered taking the game hostage, because the game will end eventually. Still it is griefing, at least.

Killers should lose collision when not moving for a certain amount of time. There is also not really a tactical reason to do that, even if this would have resulted in a 2k, it would be a very bad game and no real motivation behind it, other than to give a bad experience to the other side.

On a side note: This Hook upstairs should be moved to the ground of the House (the "Main Hall"). It is basically another Basement Hook. This would also not make the upper Part of Thompsons House safe, because there is nothing to work with for a Survivor, no Pallets and an unsafe Window.

So moving the Hook downstairs would remove the unneccessary strength of it, while still making it hard for Survivors to get down without getting hit, when they get caught on the Gen.

That is actually a really bad idea. When the game was released, there was never a hook up there and survivors used to climb to the chest corner of the house to get downed so the killer couldn't hook them.

I can only get behind removing the top hook under the following two conditions

    1) Top hook can only disappear if the basement is present in the house.

    2) An additional gap must be opened in the stairwell to allow the killer a shorter path downstairs (this also gives survivors another escape path to prevent what we're talking about above

Until that happens, that suggestion is a no-go

I wrote that there is a Hook in the "Main Hall" of the House. This is directly below the stairs in the House. Every Killer should be able to carry a Survivor to this place.

(I also think that this Hook should be present when the Basement is there)

  • Playing with their swf. They had a team.

They TOLD THE TEAM if they went to save theyd be caught.

    They were.

That means THE TEAM (the other 2) are still out of the house. Able to do gens. Prompt EGC. And the 2 "hostages" die to EGC. That's not hostage taking. Scummy, yes, but the game CAN end.

I have never seen that hook on the main floor myself. No, seriously - I've never seen it spawn ever. So I'm a bit shocked by this revelation.

Regardless, they still need to break the rail next to the lockers in the stairwell. That would fix so many issues with that upstairs area.

It does not spawn there. But instead of spawning on the upper Floor, it should spawn in the Main Part. So just move it down one Floor.

  • Look at all the people falling all over themselves to defend this killer. So bizarre. Regardless of whether or not it's technically taking the game hostage, this type of stuff is not what the devs intend to happen. Why do you think they changed the basement stairs after they added the EGC? Exactly for this reason.

There's no reason the upper floor shouldn't have a drop point.

  • So how many survivors did she block at the stairs and how many were alive elsewhere?

Except you now have to travel through a door, past the rubble in the center room, past the rail guards to get to the stairs so it's quite possible to lose a hook very easily that way. If a survivor is smart enough they can force this into a endless loop.

So how is this solution any different then the one the TC experienced? Because now the killer can leave? It would just result in this more frequently among lower rank killers.

  • If you have video evidence of what happened, first you will need to have reported the killer in the post-game scoring screen. If you didn't do that, unfortunately there's nothing the devs can do about it this time.

If you did, the next step is to send a ticket to Support with the evidence. You will also need the killer's player ID so that the team can find them and punish them appropriately. Here is the link to submit your ticket: https://support.deadbydaylight.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=191426

No, it wouldn't, because the hatch is never going to close as long as the killer continues to bodyblock the last two survivors inside the house.

Right, but when hatch closes it should trigger EGC. Unless it just doesnt in the one situation confusing keys instead of a killer closing it? Which seems unlikely.

Still. The 2 that left are in swf as far as the op said, and could/should have opened the doors to trigger it at least BEFORE taking hatch.

If I'm in a full group, and the other 2 leave without triggering EGC (hatch issue, dc, etc) I'm definitely blaming them and not the killer.

The killer is still being scummy, but it's not entirely in their hands at that point.

No, it wouldn't, because the hatch is never going to close as long as the killer continues to bodyblock the last two survivors inside the house.

If a key opens a hatch, it auto closes. Does it not? That's why the achievement is harder. Because if a teammate opens it, and you're not there, it closes and you're still in game.

Also, the hatch wouldnt open without a key unless all but 1 were dead. So a key had to be used.

You're correct, the hatch does automatically close after 30 seconds if it is opened with a key. I was mistaken in saying that it will remain open permanently. However, this does not trigger the EGC, so the scenario OP is describing is still a hostage situation.
