Really now?
It's not impossible to do well as M1 killers if you just put your mind to it.
You just need to think outside the box, and not run the universal meta all the time.I didn't say it's impossible, it's just 10x harder and way more stressful. I'm an M1 killer main (Myers) so I know it's not impossible to do well, however I can have a much easier and relaxed time playing blight.
Fact remains, the gameplay has become faster and as a result faster killers are being played more than slower ones, faster killers are being introduced to the game (ghoul and Krause).
-
While looping can be effective, it can also be pointless in soloq if your team are not doing gens. I play stealth. Do gens, avoid the killer, avoid chases unless I absolutely have to run. That way I'm working towards the goal of doing gens to escape instead of going in circles with a killer for ages while my team fart about in the basement or whatever they are doing.
-
100% agree. The pace is too fast, gens fly too fast, killers need to have speed to keep up. It leaves slower killer like Myers and trapper in the dust while people usually go blight or ghoul so we get a very stale repetitive game with the same killers over and over and we get tunneling to get someone out fast.
The reason it has come to this is partly due to people saying they hate doing gens so the the Devs won't slow them down and partly due to people saying they want "interaction" and always in the action. The result is we have fast paced matches where it's more like an action game than a horror game.
I would prefer it way more if the game was slowed down, had more tension and suspense, more stealth, all killers had the feeling of being lethal not just the top tiers while the lower tiers are mocked and literally ran circles around a pallet. If there was any alternative to DBD I would drop DBD in a shot but it's the only option available unfortunately.

I've lost count of the number of matches with P40+ survivors will crouch everywhere, not do generators, not unhook anyone, try to harass the killer, lead the killer to the rest of their team, or just generally refuse to partake in actual survivor goals. Every time I get one of those matches, the end game always shows P40s and up. P100s in particular seem to give up immediately the second they lose a health state, immediately making the game a 3v1 and all but guaranteeing a loss unless the Killer takes pity on the rest of the team.
I don't have anyone above P6, so is there something about being a high prestige level that makes you play this way? Or are these people just bored and figure ruining the game for everyone else is the best use of their time?Possibly boredom, might have played the game long enough they don't find it fun so they find other means of enjoyment.
Possibly killer mains thats still pretty new to survivor role. P100 is not a reflection of skill or anything it's just how much BP they throw at that one character. I can P100 several survivors while only playing killer just by throwing BP on the survivors.
Possibly because they have enough experience to predict how a match is going to go so they don't bother wasting time in a futile match.
Possibly they are trying to do adepts or other challenges like stun the killer or blinds and when they know it's a killer like nurse that bypasses pallets and much harder to stun than someone like trapper they just don't bother and try their luck in the next match.
Possibly because it's simply how they play, sometimes playing selfishly, not saving a useless team mate and avoiding getting into chases helps to be the last survivor remaining for hatch.
I have found it's not high prestige players that do this, globes/console players seem to be the frequent culprits in my matches.

thats fair, and dont get me wrong i know ist strong, but i personally dont like it and find other perks more worthwhile. im not a huge lean into the meta type of killer main
As Myers main I never use it, the 1 and only gen perk I use is deadlock. It usually delays all gens getting done just long enough to pick up a 3 or 4k by the end
-
@TropesDaMan said:
i lowkey hate using this perk, i dont feel satisfied using it, and barely feel the value. could just be me, i prefer to use perks like Eruption, Surge, Pop Goes The Weasle. i feel its a little restricting, what are your thoughts on it
Pain Res is pretty much meta for high mobility killers. Fast to get hooks then fast to get another hook to trigger it multiple times. It's a nightmare perk for soloq players because so many times I have been on a gen that will never get done because someone got hooked. I get it back to 90% and then someone else gets hooked, I get it to 95% and 3rd person gets hooked and not 1 gen is done because the only person doing a gen keeps having the gen pushed back. It's especially effective when combined with gen blocking perks.
Pain Res is only a wasted perk if the killer is too slow to move around the map and slow to get downs or if the killer camps and tunnels or survivors are good enough to not go down so fast. I tried it with Myers and it was useless but on blight it's very good.
-
He left possibly due to licence for the new hellraiser game due out. That's just a guess but it seems a bit sus that dbd loses pinhead around the time a new hellraiser game is being developed. Probably the same with the Halloween licence.
I have seen a few pinhead mains but not many, I just know he's a pain to go against soloq but swf can demolish him.
-
It's interesting that skill seems to be a requirement. Is it skillful to sit on a gen (which is the survivors objective)? No, should we make it so gens actually require some sort of skill instead of pressing a button now and then? Is it skillful for swf on on comms to say "Myers is heading to you meg, hide"? No, should we remove swf from the game so it requires skill to play v a slow stealth killer? Does it require skill to run from pallet to pallet? In most cases no.
My point is who cares about skill level and what takes skill or not, it's not about being the most skilled or the best. It's about fun even if it takes 0 skill. Or are people finally saying that DBD is a competitive game and skill is a requirement? Because for years people have been saying DBD is a casual game.
That being said, Krasue and ghoul are boring to play as and against imo. It has nothing to do with skill expression, I just simply don't like high mobility killers especially as they are way too common these days. Play against the same killer multiple times in a row and they get boring fast regardless of how who it is.

If there is a 2V8 Killer poster boy, it's probably Wesker. It's not an exaggeration to say he is in at least 50% of my 2V8 games. And I'll be honest here and get this out of the way, I intensely dislike this Killer and I always have. There's nothing BHVR could really do to make him more enjoyable for me to face except maybe take away his third dash or make his dashes slower and I know that's never gonna happen. He's a golden goose to BHVR.
I mean no disrespect to his mains when I say this because I know there are impressive things that you can do with the character, but I do feel like Wesker is baby's first A-tier Killer. What I mean is that he seems to be one of the easiest strong Killers to get results with. His power is not as difficult or as punishing to learn as Spirit, Nurse or Blight, he doesn't get screwed over by indoor maps like Billy (and his power is better in loops), he doesn't have an awkward transition between powers like Dracula to break the flow of his gameplay. Oni has a comparatively slow start. He also has some slow down and info built into his power, which can feel necessary in such a fast paced mode like 2V8 (I think this is also the reason why Nemi is a popular choice, despite not really getting any crazy buffs to his active power).
Trapper, Huntress and Wraith are fairly well represented (I suspect because they are free). Ghostie is popular as a simple, easy to play choice for the more casual Killers playing. But Pyramid Head and Chucky may as well not be in the mode for how rare they seem to be. Whenever you do get one of these other Killers, they're often paired with a Wesker anyway. There's almost no escaping the guy.
So what can be done to challenge the Wesker supremacy? Can the other Killers be buffed at all to make them more appealing and to promote variety?
I can't make suggestions for Killers that I don't play. But I think Chucky could use a quicker dash. They could rebuff his turn rate to get Drift King Billy back into the mode and make him more fun. I do quite well with these Killers and they're by no means bad. But I think players are looking for a different experience to what they get in 1V4 from their Killer of choice (hence why 3 dash Wesker/Dracula are so popular). Most Killers as they currently stand in 2V8 don't offer that experience to the same extent. Chucky has 1 extra long mega dash but that's about it and Billy feels not much different to play than his 1V4 version to me. Since Legion's expulsion (who did tick the different experience box), I've been without a Killer for 2V8.
We've seen how an extremely popular Killer in 2V8 can disproportionately negatively affect the experience (especially so if you hate them). It's the reason why Legion was removed. And the problem is only magnified since 2V8 already suffers from a lack of variety to begin with. Even if you like this Killer, it's got to be stale seeing the same guy over and over and over again.
I felt this issue would improve over time as more Killers were added, but now that BHVR don't have the goal to add as many Killers as possible, I don't see an obvious, easy solution to this. Repeat prevention is out of the question with the queues as long as they are and Wesker enjoyers are still likely to queue up to play as him, no matter what. Wesker is close to the ideal 2V8 Killer (a simple strong power with some slow down).
I'm just so tired of seeing this guy and it's killing 2V8 for me. Am I alone in feeling this way? For all I know, everyone else loves playing against this Killer and can't get enough of him. But when I'm onto my third Wesker in a row, I'm pretty much done with 2V8 for the day.
TL;DR: Wesker is in too many 2V8 trials and I think this is a problem when Killer variety is already very poor. Can/should anything be done to change this? Or does everyone else enjoy back to back Wesker matches and this is more of a "me" problem..?
This is the result of meta. It's the same in 1 v 4 which is why there are so many s tier killers around and low tiers are few and far between. The only way of dealing with it is to make all killers equally viable so there is no tier list making all killers equal. That is impossible due to the wide range of powers and how different killers are.

You can goof around in the survivor match but in your original comment you where saying people are giving up and going next using play as you wait.
which they should not be clicking play as you wait to do. no matter how frustrated they are with wait times also if they are going next and get penalty by chance they are going to loose there spot in que and have to wait even longer to play the role they want.
This feature would be a boon for getting people to switch between roles more, I just don't think we should not add it because some killers are ruining the feature because they are upset with ques. That's what I mean, goof around to waste the time then after a few min go next to play killer. As always with this game, people that abuse things prevent things from being added. I wish I could say bhvr would punish the people abusing these things but the fact comes down to you can't enforce what you can't prove. You can't prove if someone has gone next due to wanting to play killer or if they just performed poorly which is why the go next system is highly flawed and easy to work around. DCing is easy to prove and people do get punished for it but going next is way too easy to manipulate and it can't be stricter because then it leads to punishing people that have just died fast due to tunneling.
I think we should be working on dealing with current issues in the game and current pain points before we go giving people yet another way to abuse things and make the game worse for others. Switching from killer to survivor is not an issue, if it's not broken don't fix it

play as you wait is better as ive listed before and nobody is forcing them to play survivor, they are choocing to play then deciding to grief.
I personally will play signifyingly less killer if this feature goes away, but I see no reason to add it to the game. if people are abusing it punish them rather then taking away the feature.
I didn't say people are forced they are pushed... encouraged, being between a rock and a hard place. Opting to play a role they don't want to play might be better than sitting in a long q but it has consequences on the people that do want to play survivor as a side effect.
Personally if I want to play killer I will q for killer, if I want to play survivor I will back out of the killer q and join survivor q which does not require a play while you wait feature. The only real benefit is for when q times are long so it reserves your q space but then we are back to the choice of wait it out in a lobby doing nothing or join survivor to goof about for a while to pass the time.

I have not see this happen at all personally. I've seen nothing but wholesome interaction.
But I think people who are playing like this are going to play regardless of if this feature is a thing and these sound like More so killer mains who are only using the feature because of que times, not because they enjoy switching roles.
When 2v8 leaves que times will not be as long so killers who are queing as survivor just to throw while waiting for killer match wont have any reason to do that as they are going to potentially spend longer then just waiting in que.If q times are short then it might be ok but at the moment it is a case of killer mains pushed into a playing a role they don't want to play. But why not just swap to survivor if people want to play survivor like they do usually. Play killer match then swap to survivor, no need for play while you wait.
-
I'm not a fan. For 2 reasons.
- People can play for revenge whether it be an ex killer is on the team and the team decide to not help them because they killed them all in the previous match or could be killers target someone that didn't save them in a previous match.
- It has lead to an increase in people giving up and going next because killers play survivor to waste time playing a role the don't want to play while waiting in the q. First chance they get they are out of the match to play the role they actually want to play while leaving survivors deal with a 3 v 1 match.
both of which I have seen happen

I'm curious what you think of Meg's intent in this clip. Do you think she just didn't know any better? Would you really suspect that she was trying to get the Killer's attention? What else could this be but intentionally griefing?
https://www.twitch.tv/cryptgirl1981/clip/SquareTriangularBeaverAllenHuhu-eq_BQYSQ7fuxnNYx
Obviously it appears to be griefing because they are not trying to go next or throw themselves at the killer or gain the killers attention so can't be interpreted as "oops didn't see the killer there" or "I was locker spamming to get the killers attention so I can lead him on 5 Gen chase for the team. the This sort of griefing is not common. Try proving intent when there could be another reason for the actions such as "I just can't loop... That's the way it goes, oh well next match"

I do feel like there are instances when it’s very clear someone is just throwing. I’ve had a player do nothing but run around the entire match and throw all the pallets down just to grief. Players that spam lockers or windows the entire time till they get downed.
There is a difference between a selfish survivor player and one that is intentionally griefing. And while I understand people not always having fun in a match, you can’t just quit without punishment. Crows exist to stop players from just standing there, the anti-go next system to discourage people from going next, they even stopped self unhooks on the first hook to discourage just throwing the match even if you’re unhappy.
Cheaters intentionally ruin people’s games and rightfully get punishments and bans, players that intentionally ruin your games shouldn’t get a pass just because they’re not using cheats.I agree but proving intent is pretty much impossible. Are they They made the go next penalty system stricter ages ago and people were getting punished for looking for hex totems so they relaxed it to prevent false flags. Spamming windows and lockers could be seen as a distraction tactic to try get the killers attention, it can be seen as wanting to go next. Intent is very difficult to prove.
Technically you can quit a match without punishment via abandon.... Get downed twice and recovered twice then you can abandon. Refuse to help the team, wait for them to get downed or hooked then get yourself downed and you can abandon. The abandon set a dangerous precedent for the game, created a whole new loop hole which the Devs still refuse to see

@Tamo said:
I'm a little tilted right now but here's a suggestion for 2v8 in the future, can you give us an option to get ourselves off the cage if we're just getting abandoned by 7 OTHER PEOPLE IN THE LOBBY! Like a timer or something, because it's insane getting left after running a killer for 2 gens or at least a decent portion of such only to be abandoned from your first cage unable to contribute anything else to the game. It's fine for the killers & not their problem, survivors just don't go for uncages sometimes though & in those situations you wonder with so many heads in the lobby why can't any of them bash them together & decide to save someone who's just dying?
Either a timed self uncage or just program the cages to spawn nearer to AN available teammate. Not asking for cages to spawn so saves are always guaranteed but all the way away from anyone so you just easily get left to die is horrible in these moments.
Rant over, good luck in the fog everyone.
SURVIVORS SAVE YOUR TEAMMATES
Why stop at 2 v 8? Extend it to 1 v 4 because 3 other people didn't save the 1 on hook.

Yeah, I 100% agree that false bans would be a nightmare and I don’t want inexperienced players punished either. What I’m talking about is the really clear pattern stuff – the people who load in, instantly give up, sandbag, or throw multiple games in a row on purpose. I was new too once. I didn’t behave like this.
There’s a big difference between someone playing badly or learning the game and someone actively ruining match after match for their teammates. I think there should be some kind of system focused on repeat, obvious griefing, not one-off bad games, so that new or struggling players aren’t touched but the constant throwers can’t keep doing it with zero consequences.Such a system can never exist. Reasons being:
1. it's impossible to tell if it's a pattern of toxicity or a pattern of inexperience. You basically have to prove intent. "Oh I got grabbed off a gen again" did I not see the killer coming or did I intentionally remain on the gen to get grabbed?
2. It even says in-game that survivors have a choice, work as a team or go at it alone. If a survivor is going at it alone and not working as a team they shouldn't get punished for playing the game their way in accordance with the rules.
3. People want to have fun. Going against ghoul 6/10 matches is not fun so I can see why they would want out of the match asap to try their luck in the next match. Forcing people to play a match they don't enjoy won't go down well.

Sure, it should be consistent, but this person specifically said tunneling and slugging will get you punished on the forum which isn't true, unless "punished" means you'll get clapback. Which, yes, you will.
Also, being banned from the forum and being punished in the actual game are pretty different. The two things have little to do with each other. Codes of conducts would vary between two completely different platforms.
They can get you banned if the mod sees fit to ban them for it and then label it as "promoting unsportsmanlike behaviour". It has been done in the past... people have been banned when they didn't even post a single comment.
The forums and the game have a lot to do with eachother. Forums are here to discuss the game. However, discussion is limited when we can't discuss something that's perfectly fine in the game but gets you banned on the forums. This is why there is confusion on what the rules are and this is why we still have issues with the game....they can't be discussed. Maybe if people were able to explain what they do, how they get around certain things then we could fix the game. Personally if I had someone telling me exactly how they are getting around something with a technicality then I would take what they say onboard to prevent it not ban them from the forums and allow it to continue in the game. I know this from experience lol
-
@cogsturning said:

There is nothing in the forum rules against promoting tunneling and slugging. They are specifically listed as non-reportable in-game, and don't fall under unsportsmanlike conduct, even if much of the community disagrees. You don't get punished for advocating for these things here. We have some people that do little else.
Promoting or admitting to throwing, however, can get you banned.
It is possible to be non reportable in game and banable on the forums.unsporstmanlike behaviour can cover many things. Just like throwing....non reportable in game but banable on the forums. They should have consistency in the rules between game and forums but they don't and it's often up to the mod who's online at the time on the forums and if they see fit to ban someone
-

Technically tunneling and camping arent against the rules either, but just like on this forum and on reddit, if you do it, you'll be punished lol.
Punished how? With downvotes?
They made their stance when they bent the knee to the survivor rulebook.
You mean when they cancelled every single thing to help with these issues without even letting them run their course on the ptb?
I dont feel sorry for players when they get bad teammates anymore. Killers need to have fun too
On a scale of 1 to 10, how bad do you have to be at the killer role to need throws or bad matchmaking to have fun?
Down votes are not the only punishment. What's acceptable in the game is not acceptable in the forums. Doing it in the game is fine but promoting "unsportsmanlike" gameplay is against the forum rules and can result in a ban from forums.

I agree, the experience has been awful for a long time but that's the game the Devs are going for.... Casual, non competitive, any thing can happen, unlimited experiences. Which obviously this is unobtainable but will the Devs listen? Hell no.

Firstly this issue has got worse since the play while you wait. Lots have openly said "just wasting time while I'm in the killer q"
This is the primary reason I don't want pwyw to be permanent. I have no doubt hard killer mains load into 2v8 as surv just to farm a few blood points while not caring about the outcome or their teammates. That's fine for stupid mode but keep that out of 1v4 please.
To be fair the Devs have repeatedly said they want a party game where the results don't matter. They want focus to be on the "experience" rather than the outcome.

So I got a response from support today about a report I sent in, and honestly it just feels really discouraging as a survivor player.
I had a match where two teammates (an Ace and a Cheryl) basically refused to participate. They threw themselves at the killer, didn’t do gens, didn’t go for saves, and were clearly just wasting time while the rest of us actually tried to play.
I submitted video proof, explained what happened… and the official response was basically: “We’re not taking action because this behavior is not against the rules.”
I get that not everything can be bannable, but when players can openly refuse to participate and drag down an entire match with zero consequences, it makes solo queue feel miserable. It’s not “just one bad game” when this keeps happening and the message from support is that “it’s fine.”
If AFKing, griefing, or refusing to participate is considered acceptable behavior, what are we supposed to do as survivors besides eat the loss and move on? At some point it stops feeling like “just RNG” and more like…well that’s just how the cookie crumbles.I’d really like BHVR to reconsider where they draw the line on this stuff, because right now it feels like survivors are completely unprotected from teammates who want to throw.
This is the reply I got from support..I just wanted to rant, show my thoughts, express my feelings. Thanks for listening 👂 everyone.

Firstly this issue has got worse since the play while you wait. Lots have openly said "just wasting time while I'm in the killer q"
Secondly, as the response said, it's not against the rules.
Thirdly, as cogs mentioned, people would be unfairly reported because others have simply not seen the contribution to the team. Things like doing gens stealthily or leading killer on a chase without actually triggering the chase mechanic (easily done by shack).
-
I actually like the map, it's great for stealth killer like Myers. The spawn points can be a bit annoying but generally it's not too bad. It's nice to get map for stealth killers for a change, we only have Gideon, Hawkins, midwitch and lerys and now tricksters map.

I don't want to pop your bubble but if your counterargument is that everybody in solo q should run minimum one exhaustion and read eachother minds to cooridinate chains of body blocks in every game. We are playing different games.
As a side note: Take your freaking extra pallets and give me back good loops and structures.Clearly we are playing different games. There are 2 possible scenarios here. 1. Soloq survivors are individually running meta perks and have similar load outs and intervene on their own accord which is possible especially as we can now see eachothers perks in the match. Or 2. There are far more swf teams that people like to admit.
This constant body blocking situation is a common occurrence in my killer matches so am I getting skilled soloq players that know how to delay a down effectively or am I going against sweaty swf that coordinate?
Like it or not there is a meta for both sides perk wise... If you don't bring meta and your opponent does then don't expect to win.
As for the loops .. going in a circle scooby doo style is just as boring as going from pallet to pallet imo.

-
This is no different to regular 1 v 4. Why play trapper when people can play blight? Why play PH when people can play oni? Both modes there are killers that just can't keep up with the pace of the game, too slow to traverse the map which is why we have repetitive matches with the same killers over and over, it's why people DC or go next so fast which ruins it for all survivors in the match. That's dbd for you.

Genuinely S-tier killers are deathly boring when I play them unironically. If I ever play ghoul (And the match is not super close) then I'll just 2 hook everyone and then just let them all go cuz yes. I don't even have a main but I have played springle trump the most.
I agree, I can't stand playing s tiers. I went blight for a while but it got boring fast (no pun intended). Myers is my guy and swf teams are a nightmare to deal with on certain maps. But I enjoy the killer and I can see if they are swf in lobby as it's mostly obvious so i decide then if I want to go through with the match or give my space in the q to another killer 😊 makes things less stressful and more fun. Recently I been using lethal, pwyf, friends till the end and dead lock with vanity mirror and tuft of hair add ons.

I feel like everybody and their mother have something to give survivors exposed, why?
On top of it feels lazy, there is fewer good pallets and even less tall wall loops with windowsSimply put.... because the amount of 2nd chances survivors get these days is crazy. A lot is now basekit but I'm finding a lot with dead hard so if 4 people have dead hard it can take multiple hits to get 1 down. An example of this is when multiple people have dead hard, 1 hit to injure, someone uses dead hard to tank 2nd hit, then another survivor body blocks and tanks a hit, then they use dead hard to take another hit.... Then killer downs them that's 5 hits to get 1 down while 2 others are sitting on gens
Low tier killers can struggle to get 1 hit on some maps so having a situation where a killer has to get 5 hits to get 1 down is a bit much.
There might be fewer good loops but loops are not needed anymore because there are so many pallets. Just hop from pallet to pallet all match

In my experience survivors dodge way more than killers. I have been in lobbies for 10min while survivors dodge eachother because they don't like globes or there is a sable in the lobby or some other weird reason.
It will never change because apparently bhvr want to make the game less competitive and more party game which is why they are reworking the matchmaking later in the year.... Is it ok to punish someone from leaving a lobby in a party game that's not supposed to be taken seriously? Maybe... maybe not. I mean people are punished for DCing which isn't very party game friendly so who knows....

As others have said, best option really is to use S tier killers because low tier killers are harmless v a good team no matter what perks you use. Pallets, maps, spawn locations seem highly in the survivors favour recently unless your a blight, nurse, billy, ghoul....they seem to be the killers that don't get slapped about so much.
Also don't be afraid to play dirty lol a few times I have acted like a "friendly killer" then used noed at the end and downed them all when they are busy squatting around me

The problem is when we ban people for not hooking we have to then look into banning people that don't unhook. Being slugged is no different to being on hook, you can't get yourself back into the game without the aid of someone else, you are stuck in that situation until you die or someone helps.
If you are on hook and 3 random people each think someone else will go for the unhook and no one does then should survivors be banned for leaving you in a position where you cant do anything until you die?
It sounds like you have an issue with the core concept of a survivor being prevented from playing the match which both slugging and hooks both do.
Also we have tried the whole "pick themselves up" many times and survivors abused it by making it impossible to hook them.
I recently had a match where 3 people had full anti hook builds, I didn't want to slug but they forced my hand..... Slugged the lot of them

100% pallets are insane recently. I get why. They are needed for going against high mobility killers but as a result the majority of the roster suffers. As Myers main, I'm finding that even with full pallet smash build and 15% haste from pwyf, people are still able to drop pallet and run to the next, and the next, and the next. That's how close together these pallets are. As survivor I have no worries regarding wasting pallets or saving them for my team because there are so many they will last all much and have many left over. Don't need to loop, don't need to greed a pallet, I can drop and run all match.
