Hmmm... this is going to get interesting.
-
I'm 47 and I never see a time where I stop gaming, it has brought me joy throughout my life. This is one of the best horror games out there and it is aimed at adults. I've never cared about the ages of players in games, only how they play in the game.
-
Yep playing against a talented Doctor is an ordeal. It sometimes feel like there is no time to just relax and get a gen done with the Doc. He would be my pick also.
-
As a survivor I've been killed ten times in a row, and about half that when it comes to escapes in a row.
-
How is the solo experience in this game?
There is a way to make the game more fun for everyone, and I try to follow that rule. It is don't be an #########. Meaning don't drop the killer on other players, lead the killer away from those doing gens, or someone on the hook. And try save that person on the hook before they get to the second stage. It is also about not being an ######### to the killer, there is no need to use exploits to try last longer or win.
Most of the games I play are fun, some of the best ones are thrilling. The frustrating games involve players who seem to know how to play the game but are playing for reasons I don't know, like to annoy the killer or troll other survivors, I have found that last one to be rare. I don't mind losing if I am teamed with new players, we were all new once and it is a tricky game to learn. In fact I'm still learning all the time in it.
Overall solo is enjoyable, games that I am teamed with other solo survivors who play similar to me, as in get the gens done and try get everyone out alive, those games stand out. Even against really good killers who pretty much massacre the whole team promptly, there is nothing you can do when you are outplayed, perhaps try and figure out mistakes you can improve on.
-
I used to buy lots of games a year, now I buy far fewer. The main reason is that some games I keep returning to and new games just don't match the level of fun. Dead by Daylight is one that I keep coming back to, and it's simply because I love it. There is a thrill in this one that other games just don't offer.
-
I play rather a lot, it depends on how much time I have for gaming each week. At the moment I'd say I spend about 80% of it with DBD. I take breaks from the game, sometime for a few months. Every time I return I'm reminded why I love it.
-
I love 10 Cloverfield Lane. I've watched it a few times and it is just fantastic. The music is great, characters are well crafted and believable. I will not spoil it for those who haven't seen it, but it delivered for me on the horror front.
-
They are my fave killers to play as at the moment. I don't have to try that hard to well. Although I haven't played against teams working together yet. It is fun chasing someone towards Victor and then switching to him.
-
The Trickster looks crazy and Yun-Jin Lee looks resilient, I love both appearances. This is the chapter I've been most excited for since Silent Hill. At the moment I'm pretty busy but I should be able to get a few hours play in.
-
I mentioned in another thread how I am a fan of the creative people who make this game. I find these original chapters just as fun as the licensed ones. I've been thoroughly enjoying playing as the Twins. And Elodie is amongst my fave three survivors, currently she is the only one I'm playing as until Yun-Jin.
Other people on the forum are hoping for some major license to be revealed for the anniversary of this game. I'd be just as happy with a new map and original killer and survivor.

These should work.

Love the look of both Trickster and Yun-Jin, can't wait to try them out.
Both attires are very well crafted, the characters themselves look phenomenal, they totally fit into the atmosphere of the game. Whoever designed them, great work!
The only thing lacking is some neon filled cityscape map, but I understand the whole map design is busy with updating what we already have.
-
Fave killer is the Twins, I've had a lot of fun with them today.
Fave survivor at the moment is Elodie. But I am really looking forward to playing as Yun-Jin next week or whenever.
-
Cheers. I found as a survivor that I really enjoy facing the Twins, that is part of the motivation to get good with them. Thanks for the tips.

Thank you. That's perfect.

Certain horror movies have this almost mythical status for me. I recall walking by a cinema when I was young and older sisters talking about the movie Nightmare on Elm Street. This was the poster:
The whole concept of the film terrified me. When I eventually watched it on video when it was released, it lived up to expectations.
Then there is Halloween, this movie scared the life out of me. I remember finding part two more unnerving.
Scream was brilliant, it was clever and funny with a nice amount of scares.
Now I love remakes, I'm usually attracted to the latest version of a story, there are some exceptions. Anyway I love the remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre (and there is a new remake on the way). The cast was pretty good, as were the special effects and the gore. A fantastic horror with Jessica Biel as a kickass final girl.
Saw is a bit too torture pornish for me. Although I do adore the whole puzzle aspect and the choice people are forced to make.
I consider the Trapper to be Jason, so I'm going to mention the remake of Friday the 13th, it stars the wonderful Danielle Panabaker, Killer Frost from the Flash and Jared Padalecki, one half of the Supernatural boys. A well made movie and it felt like a good roller coaster of horror.
And while I know it's not a movie, Stranger Things is phenomenal. It's like that expression capturing lighting in a bottle.
My fave movie associated with Dead by Daylight is Silent Hill, I found the games too nerve-wrecking, so I never got into them. I recall seeing this in the cinema and not knowing what to expect. I avoid trailers and spoilers. It was an okay start, sometimes it's tough to tell which way a horror is going to go just from the beginning. By the time a handcuffed Rosa Da Silva is running through the misty streets of Silent Hill I was transfixed. The movie at it's core is about motherhood, the lengths a woman will go to save her daughter, recklessly throwing herself into harms way. The first time the siren went off and the streets changed into this hellish otherworld, rusty fences and demon children and then changes back to the weird normality of the abandoned town, it's masterful. Then there is Pyramid Head, creepy people in makeshift hazmat suits, countless flesh eating bugs. Not to mention the other monstrosities or the cult or the witch child. The odds stacked against Rosa just seem impossible to overcome. I won't go on in case someone hasn't see it. Most of the special effects still hold up today. The pacing is not as good as some of the others mentioned and there are bits I'd change, nonetheless for what it attempts to achieve and the originality; top marks.

Well that would most likely be the best way of handling anythings. Since it would allow everyone to have their own way of handling things and let it be true, in their personal cannon. Since to point to disney star wars, alot of shippers were not very happy with the way Rei and Klyo were handle. They sort of got what they wanted but not in the way they wanted. While leaving it up to everyone own mind, would allow them to picture it the way they desire 100%. Which is much better than other ideas in this thread that are more or less akin to burn the witch and shove their point of view down everyone's throat.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1726236#Comment_1726236
Well I seen alot of war and action genre focus pieces of media. That lack any romance, yet logically these characters had to come from some where. It seems like yes straight people exist, even if they don't say it in the story or show it. Since well a story focus on war, will sometimes purely focus on the front line fighting. Yet it wouldn't make much sense, for us to go with they didn't show it, so it doesn't exist. Since these people had to be born somehow and these pieces of media are base on our own world. Since everything else is like our world, in the case of these stories base on our own reality. It would only make sense, to think everything else works the same as our own world. Since a story only has so much time like in the case of a movie or even in other pieces of media, only has so much spot light it can focus on, it needs to leave things that are not important out, since a car I think everyone knows how it works and doesn't need it to be explained to them, when it could be used on more important story elements. Which something that is on going like dead by daylight and with the way the rifts work, they can always make sure everyone gets their own focus. That and when it comes to repsentation, to truly repsentation people. You need more than they are just gay. Since there is a slice of life show I watch, which has a gay couple. They act like a real couple, they are not just gay. They have disagreements, they get into trouble. They raise a child. They act like real people. Which is often what representation demands forget. The reason people relate to others, is due to who they are. Not what they are. People are not robots or part of some human mind that all act the same. That and I could add in a gay character to something, doesn't make it better. Same for a straight character, their sexually doesn't make something better. You have to put effort into it, to truly make it better. Otherwise any character who is straight would be beloved as Peter Parker or Like Luke Skywalker used to be before disney got their hands on him. Yet characters like Kirito are hated by alot of folk, due to their lack of effort or quality in the writing behind them. IF you truly want to represent someone. Do what all great classic characters did before them, flesh them out and make them feel like a real life person. For all humans are more than just gay or straight, they have a favorite drink, a meal they enjoy, things they like and dislike, not just their sexually.
Which also your final statement, conflicts it's self. You say it will make the game better but than go it has no effect on gameplay. Unless you meant story wise than fair point.
Thank you for the response, I shall address your last point first.
Yes it is only in regards to the story that having a gay character could improve the game. But it is subjective, meaning it is personal feelings that are correct here rather than some fact that is true for everyone. So if someone hated gay people, then the game will have just gotten worse for them. But for most people there is the potential to improve the story of the game by having one or more lgbt characters.
Regarding the war genre, it is a good example. Movies from the last century rarely featured homosexual story lines, despite there being gay soldiers who fought in those wars. Often the heterosexuality of those in the war zone is established by longing looks at a photo of their sweetheart back at home, or scenes where they leave their loved one or return after the war. As you mentioned even where their heterosexuality is not explicitly shown, then it is just assumed that everyone involved is straight. Since the majority of people live heterosexual lives, then it is a safe assumption. This is part of the reason there is a desire to come out. Otherwise there would be very little by way of representation of gay people in society. And this it is important to mention that homosexuality has only been legalized over the last fifty years, and equality is a process that is still ongoing. The word gay is used in a pejorative way by some, meaning that it is meant to refer to something that is bad. This is the type of issues that positive representation tackles. If the hero fighting the war is a lesbian or gay person, then the word gay will have this other meaning.
But to bring this back to this game. Another question that should be asked is, is it the duty of the makers of Dead by Daylight to include gay characters? No, as I see it they should mainly be concerned with making money, creating something they are proud of and entertaining the majority of the players.
Final point, I totally agree with you about the representation being meaningful, like the show you watch, having well rounded characters who happen to be gay is the goal here. Since the story aspect of this game is expanding and becoming richer, then the opportunity for the inclusion of homosexual characters increase. Does it matter to most players? I wouldn't think so. Should it be done just to fulfill a representation quota? Again I don't think so. I feel that it should be added when one of the game makers/writers gets inspired to include it, whether it is a new character or something revealed about already existing character, it doesn't matter.
Anyway I think that's pretty much everything I have to say on it, thanks again for the reply.
-
The reason it matters is because representation matters. Does Ellie's sexuality in The Last of Us matter? The game mechanics wouldn't be any different if she was attracted to males, and you could argue that her being a heterosexual young woman wouldn't even change the narrative that much. The problem, as I see it, is if every game is absent of homosexual characters. Then it is as if gay people do not exist in these game worlds, this straight-washing of societies, even if they are imagined, leaves people without representation regarding their sexuality.
Representation done well can help bring down barriers, it can help prevent bigotry, demystify and nomalize something that people have no choice in. Would Dead by Daylight be a better game if it reflected sexualities? Yes. Will it help me be beeter at escaping the Killer? Sadly it won't.
-
I took a break for a good few months. When I returned to playing I found the game to be vastly improved. I mostly just play survivor, so that is the only side of the game I can have an informed opinion on.
-
Is what top tier players think fun the same as what the average player finds fun? I noticed a few of the most successful survivors I've played with play a very patient game. Whereas there is a much more reckless style with the majority who make up the player base. So I don't see how catering for a minority who like to play the game a certain way is meant to improve the game for everyone.
-
I've only encountered two clear hackers in the last few hundred matches I've played, one was a survivor and the other was a combination of survivor and killer. Neither hacks I care to mention here. Either you are just really unlucky or you're mistaking the way some people play as some sort of hack. Also I play on ps4, but I do have cross play on so, maybe the hackers you come across play pc only?
-
As a lot of others have mentioned, Kindred. It is crucial to have when playing solo. It gives you the ability to coordinate somewhat with the others, you see where everyone is instantly and you can gauge what type of players you are with. I'm starting play other characters to unlock their teachable perks and until I get the ability to do Kindred it is really like playing blind at times.
-
This has happened a few times before, and again earlier today. I'm first hooked soon to the start of the game, freed and recaptured. I figure my game is over, either I'll die on the hook or get caught again without much chance to play and have fun. I get freed and for whatever reason I run into the Killer again, I'm not that good at escaping when chased. But instead of pursuing me and getting an easy kill. They ignore me and start hunting the others. I'm still stuck in a nerve-wracking game, nonetheless it is a heartwarming moment.
I don't even think it is because I respect the Killers during the games, I'm hardly in those games long enough for them to get to know my playstyle and that I try to be fair. Instead it is them just showing good sportswomanship or sportsmanship. Anyway the kindness is much appreciated.

Depends on what you mean by "losing". If you mean not escaping, that's an ongoing tally on my main account. Currently lasting several months.
You choose not to escape?

Meg, there is something very heroic about her.

I don't loop. I try to evade the killer by using other tactics. More often than not I get caught. If I found looping enjoyable I would do it no matter what others thought about it on this forum.
-
Why not make it a year long celebration?
-
Both the Gideon Meat Plant and the Underground Complex. I do like playing them as a solo survivor, however the other people I'm with have to be good or I have to get lucky in order to make it out alive. I figure my playstyle doesn't suit those maps.

Nope, the list isn't up to date.
she's in one in of the top tiers though.
Cool. And it would make for a pretty great movie with all these survivors in one of the Saw films.
-
Cheryl not in this?
-
The people who cheat like that are in the minority, only a tiny fraction of the player base, at least from my experience.
-
The killer is playing the bad guy. If it's within the rules it's fine.
-
I play a solo survivor and there are some games, not many, maybe one is every twenty or thirty, where the killer is really good. Playing fair and given us a chance. My team mates are very decent too. From what I see no one is doing crap like teabagging or taunting. The game becomes a performance between two sides, and it doesn't matter who wins in the end. The whole event is just brilliant fun, tense and terrifying at times, like the end of a really good horror. Those moments, those games are the reason I play so much. Me and three other strangers working in tune against a very talented competitor.
-
I get them too, I think it's pretty cool.
-
1. Jason is a given, he is the main slasher we're missing. I am sure if it is doable he will join the killers. However he wouldn't be that different to what already is in the game, still I'd like to have the full set of them.
2. I would love to see a vampire themed killer. I'm not too bother which movie he or she comes from. Thinking about it, it might be pretty cool having a female vampire, since so many of the other killers are male.
3. Pinhead, I enjoyed the movies. He would fit well into the game.
4. The Tall Man from Phantasm. He uses these metal spheres, bigger than a fist.
5 Candyman, he could be entertaining to have.
I've never really considered Alien before a few people mentioned it on this forum. The possibilities are intriguing, getting a face hugger attached to a survivor could be quite the dilemma.

What I want added:
I think what might be interesting is a vampire, say Dracula from Bram Stoker's Dracula (90s movie). At first it does not seem to be that good but actually BHVR could go pretty nuts with his powers. They could go to actually use lighting in a meaningfull way either he starts with full power and loses it the more gens are completed and also they could maybe vary the powers having diffrent effects in diffrent stages of the trial.
This would ofc come with a survivor either good old van helsing or mina.
What I dont want added:
FNAF : I am just unable to find anything positive in it.
Dracula would be pretty great. He is one of the most iconic supernatural villains of all time. I'm pretty sure that if the character is based on the book, rather than a film adaptation, there would be no need to pay a license.

Maybe do two survivors like Stranger Things
That would be cool. And to be honest I would just love to have a vampire themed dlc, regardless of where it comes from, even have a fan copetition to help design it.
-
I love vampire movies. My suggestion is 30 Days of Night, it was a comic and 2007 horror.
The level map could be pretty much all snow covered.
The killer could be the head vampire from the film or inspired by their general creepiness.
Actor: Danny Huston
And the survivor could be either of the main heroes
Actors: Melissa George and Josh Hartnett

The only time I've escaped from his harpoon was when a talented team mate ran into the harpoon wire after he skewered me.

They have a million ways to make the game more tense, mainly adding real dangers instead of having a sound scratching your eardrums for a 80 seconds to complete a task.
I recall when I first played that all in-game sounds done that to me. They agitated my hearing and that brought on anxiety, the audio is pretty well designed in the game. This recently added car-engine-turning-over stands out because we are so used to the other sounds that they just fade into the background and have little effect on us trying to survive.
-
Fixing generators in this game should be tense, if the new sound helps with that, then that is a good thing.

Dude are you for real, I hope it's the story from SH2 so Pyramid Head can get mad screen time.
Silent Hill movie director Christophe Gans has announced he's making not one but two new video game-themed movies - one based on the foggy town of Silent Hill, and another featuring the unsettling Japanese horror series, Fatal Frame/Project Zero. That article also mentions the new game in the works.

Silent Hill *the first one
This would be my pick also. I recall sitting in the cinema watching it and being astounded by every part of it. I was never that much of a fan of the games, but after seeing that film I feel in love with that universe. Apparently there is another movie in the works.
This Halloween I'm going to rewatch it with a few others mentioned in this thread.
-
The Doctor, he is relentless and creepy as hell. Games against players who are good with him are such an ordeal.
-
Cheryl Mason. I play her as someone altruistic but not stupid. Meaning I will risk a lot save others, especially when against her nemesis, Pyramid Head. But I won't die for a lost cause. Also I'm not brave in real life, so playing a daring and sefless character is a real thrill.
And I always play solo, so having the perk Blood Pact gives me a connection to the killer's Obsession, I never feel that alone in the game.
-
I like the community. I love horror movies, so playing games with others who share a similar passion is thoroughly entertainment. There is an element of toxicity, but that is to be expected with anything online.
-
Glad you are only taking a break.
