BHVR wouldn't dare gut a popular character no matter how good they are but if the character doesn't many players they're completely fine with it sooooo
-
no hate but the game is genuinely in a very balanced state, the issues comes from unsolvable things like SWF's with full voice comm which is always gonna be strong, weaker killers DEFINITELY need buffs cause they're way behind and there's god awful maps that could use changes or shrinkage (cough cough greenville). But otherwise the game is MOSTLY fine right now, there's no boring braindead slop meta like with CoB + Overcharge meta or old Circle of Healing.
-
i would like unironically love pointless items that only exist as a cosmetic/to look nice, i would actually spend money on that jafdnjnadjvnjvadn. like whenever i do white glyph challenges i always just the little mirror in my hand for the whole match even when it's not necessary. Like people would probably love a Sable mug item that just exists to be cute, you can then maybe repurpose the item button to let the survivor drink from it as an example.
-
if it's only in bot games then they should definitely add it, otherwise i get why they don't want to do that, otherwise people would just only play custom games with friends and not have to buy anything.
-
there’s a lot of factors here.
first of all, his teleport requires setting up and also setting up is a little awkward. It’s not an on command go wherever teleport. Also hallucinating are very vulnerable, they can be destroyed quite quickly.Second, he needs to hit you TWICE until he can injure you and he has to get those 2 hits quite quickly in a lot of scenarios because of how easy his infection is to cleanse. In most chase scenarios, if he hits you with the first uvx but misses the second then you’ll probably have had enough time to get rid of the infection.
Huntress meanwhile can just wind up her hatchet within like a second and get an immediate free injury in a lot scenarios from a lot of distances. -

"Improve the trapping playstyle" This would be so hot omg. I loved the haste but if they somehow replaced the haste with something to trap better and be more lethal I think (as long as its effective) I would LOVE that too. What draws me to SM is the area denial/trap set up playstyle
i would LOVE trap focused skull merchant so much, i want them to focus on it cause it works with her lore wise and it’s so sexy pulling it off
-
The most ironic thing is that people are still probably gonna hookicide against her for the dumbest reasons even though she’s a worse legion with these changes. Genuinely she’s a bottom 5 killer now, arguably like worst killer in the game cause she doesn’t have insane map pressure cause the drones are ALWAYS active so they’re super visible
-
@ReverseVelocity said:
Undo the scanline nerf and she'll be fine I think.
i think that and also give her another small compensation and she’ll be fine.
Since the hinder is only 5% and she has no more haste, she’s just legion but worse. Give her some better stealth or improve the trapping playstyle in some way.
-
@WolfyWood said:
Everyone cheered.
I expect them to walk back the nerfs, but until then, good riddance
you do realise how painful this feels for the innocent skull merchant mains right, imagine Huntress mains got to hear she only gets 2 hatchets now and throwing hatchets now has 15 second cooldown before she could throw another. And the reason for those changes would be that she has a high kill rate or winrate.
Let us cope in peace without some “Ermmmm, me and the gang all hate on skull merchant this is deserved. 🤓” statement thank you.
Not all of us are chess gamers that enjoy the suffering of others
-
@KidDope25 said:
I don’t see why this would hinder you in anyway….walk away from the hook? Bruh
Twins and Artist get giga screwed by it, not being able to switch to victor in time or having to crow snipe around 4 seconds later is extremely hindering on those killers (whom i play often)
-
@Crowman said:
Even though the survivor is dead on hook, the game doesn't considered them dead until the animation is finished.
Although with the anti-facecamping mechanic some killer powers that turn off around hook aren't really needed imo. I think lockers being blocked for dredge is fine, but Artist not being able to place birds really isn't needed.
I get that the survivor isn’t considered dead by the game but this would literally require like 2 minutes of coding to solve, why does a killer get punished for getting a kill.
(also i feel like pyramidhead could really use that feature tbh)
-
The map feels awful to play on both sides ngl, on killer it feels atrocious because there’s so much empty extra space you may need to walk around in because of how big it is (the very large size of the main building also doesn’t help with this), finding people on this map is an absolute nightmare.
meanwhile as survivor, the gen spawns make it feel atrocious because they all feel bunched up together. In a circle around the middle, the main building could genuinely use a second gen spawn cause the building is so big, a second gen inside or right next to it outside would help flow a lot better.
i think it’s slightly favoured for survivor though cause there’s a very good consistency of loops, my first try on the map i got a 75-ish second loop against a decently skilled unknown with me having zero chase perks. Only going down because i though a certain tile still had a pallet up. (And also bigger maps are just in general better for survivors.
the map could definitely use a size decrease, that is my suggestion, it genuinely feels like playing old (the bigger) mother’s dwelling (which was probably my least favourite map as killer ever) but instead of it being shaped like a square, it’s an awkwardly shaped rectangle.
The map is beautiful but i feel despite what was said about gameplay coming before visuals, this map feels like visuals came before gameplay, way too much open dead space.
-
I agree with this it’s so helpful and nice, it helps me spot a vault out of the corner of my eye, but there are still annoying people that i’ve seen dislike this cause it “removes skill” which is an odd statement.

Pretty Survivor = Popular Survivor
More people willing to buy skins and mix and match
Uglier Survivor = Non-Popular Survivor
Less people willing to buy skins, let alone even play the character
Sable was literally made to be pretty and sell skins. The 'goth' theme is pretty popular, I literally haven't seen fewer than 3 Sable Wards per lobby yet. Haddie is, objectively, an uglier survivor, and despite BHVR's best efforts, people just don't want to play as her. Why wouldn't BHVR learn this lesson and keep making skins for characters that aren't being used? They have the stats anyway, they know who is popular and who isn't.
It sucks but it is what it is. You call it 'bias' but it's just a business model.
I agree with this statement, what i probably could’ve explained better is their release bias (cause Bias post release doesn’t exist cause sales are sales).
Vittorio and Sable get greens and 2 purples day one. Lyra siblings and Gabriel get one purple each with no greens
-
@ImWinston said:
I would like to remind you that BHVR is not a charity, but a normal company.
Haddie, despite the good number of skins, continues to not be used by anyone... and the few haddies I see in game are always with the default skin or the old rift skin or the Christmas sweater. Many Vittorios in my lobbies have skins from the shop... in short, the sales of "shirtless vittorio" pay the developers to make skins that are not purchased by anyone. If you want to support a character... buy his skins!!!
Tbh i do agree with this statement i can’t lie, i stand by this and agree but a character not having their first post launch skin for 10.5 months i find a bit odd. What i also find odd is how BHVR gives certain characters nicer treatment on release than others, which kinda makes it seem like half the survivors made today aren’t meant to be interesting but genetically created to make funds, meanwhile characters with interesting backstories get pushed aside or BHVR makes extremely bad outfits for them (cough cough Gabriel)
my main question with this post is to ask why Sable and Vittorio got special treatment but Gabriel and the Lyras didn’t. (Which i won’t lie, i probably could’ve descripted better).
-
i rarely even see skull merchant, even when i do i usually get pretty chill ones.
I mostly play Merchant and when i do i either run meme builds or i play her like a glorified trapper, if people DC or give up, i let the few who still try to play normally go and escape, it’s cute and sad seeing 2 survs just barely trying meanwhile these 2 other players who are looping me well and actually doing gens, working their asses off so i feel bad and let them go, one time even this Nea let me kill her after she did all the gens with a Jake because she respected my kindness.
Idk maybe it’s an NA thing cause i’m EU so idk

@MrMori said:
Skull Merchant has a super high killrate, no doubt due to many survivors giving up or not taking the game seriously against her. But I think part of this isn't just her reputation as a 3 gen killer. It's also because a lot of her power feels very oppressive, or straight up unfair, especially for solos who can't play around her tracking or stealth very effectively. You can get screwed over by things that are completely outside of your control, and she can put you in lose/lose scenarios quite often. Her counterplay also feels lacking in many different areas.
Some tweaks to make her less frustrating to play against:
- Hacking a drone removes the ability to recall it for 10 seconds. The fact that she can just instantly recall a drone as soon as it is hacked makes the counterplay feel meaningless, especially if she's patrolling nearby. It doesn't have to be something crazy like 30 seconds, but just 10 seconds would mean SM has to commit some time if she wants to replace a drone, instead of just recalling it instantly and replacing it on the fly, maybe even mid chase.
- Hacking a drone now removes 1 stack of Locked On. Right now, there are currently no ways to remove Lock On progress, which feels awful. Once you're at 2 stacks, you're just 1 little mistake away from being broken. I know you could say "that's the survivors mistake", and I agree, but that doesn't make it feel fair to go against.
- Skull Merchant only gains speedboost from survivors within 24m of her. This one is a big one. It feels really bad to chase vs a Skull Merchant when 1 or 2 survivors are locked on. Perhaps someone gets locked on across the map mid chase, and suddenly SM moves faster. It feels like you're punished by your teammates mistakes, even when your teammates aren't anywhere near you.
- Reduce drone count to 5. Another pain point is how enormous her web of drones can become, especially if she manages to coax the survivors into a 3 gen scenario. This might be a little overkill, but I think it's worth considering.
Some other ideas that may or may not be good, would be to reduce locked on duration, or make it possible to reduce it by hacking drones. And maybe reducing the Hindered strength. Though I would be careful with nerfing her in too many ways at once to ensure she doesn't feel underwhelming to play as.
Either way, I actually like her current power. A little stealth, some drones, some chase and some info. I think with better counterplay, she could go from being absolutely hated to being at least tolerated. I'm not saying you should implement every single change at once, and killrates don't tell the whole picture, especially not with someone as unpopular as SM. Maybe she's more balanced than we think, and people are just giving up too easily against her. Or maybe the hook suicides are a symptom of another problem, like mentioned. Any thoughts?
i get wanting to make her less frustrating to play against but these changes would make her abysmal to play, i agree with the Recall prevention and Lock-on removal changes, but the rest of these are just unnecessary nerfs to a perfectly average killer.
i already run meme builds on her just so i hope the survivors can atleast have a bit of fun because i enjoy playing her and i want others to have fun too despite how despised she is.
here’s some suggestions i have though:
Increase the haste boosts she gets from detecting people (maybe doubling it). BUT, she doesn’t get the speed boost near a surv (around 12-24M) so that she gets some actual map pressure that she completely lost with her rework while not giving her perma bloodlust in chase.
also here’s an ACTUAL change she needs: give drone rotation direction changing a cooldown, cause literally, the one important counterplay she would have in chase (dodging the beams) is nullified because she can just keep rotating it back and forth so you can’t crouch to avoid it.
also this a personal thing: i feel like if she’s in chase the drones should start in recon mode because otherwise it’s awkward trying to aim the slow ass drone.
-
slowdowns have been the best perks for a while now, reason being is because it’s consistent on all killers and the killer side doesn’t exactly have many perks that help in chase. The best one being STBFL but that got nerfed (I get why but still says a lot since that was like really the only good consistent one).
Killers get perks that give them 5% haste for 10 seconds (2,7 of those seconds get wasted cause of attack cooldown) in exchange for losing bloodlust (can be a big debuff depending on the map), survivor side gets a 50% haste for 3 seconds by doing very miniscule things (not trying to say these survivor perks are OP just comparing them).
It’s pretty obvious why someone would prefer running grim embrace over something like a teeny tiny haste boost despite how unfun it is with all builds being slowdown.

@Firellius said:
Fix? In what way is it broken?
it isn’t broken but it’s kind of an unhealthy/controversial perk. It just makes weaker aura read perks even weaker but the actually good aura read perks kinda just chomp through it (Nowhere to hide is the biggest example, UW also doesn’t work with distortion).
-
@Gabe_Soma said:
"it would let people with actual game knowledge and skill get rewarded"
Of course, because kicking gens / opening lockers / starting the trial and on are an actual skill rewarded to get an aura reading instead, right?
never said UW or Nowhere to Hide are fair!!! Those perks are overtuned too. Distortion just kinda makes most other aura perk’s MUCH weaker because none trigger as frequently as those 2.
As for Lethal pursuer i get it stings to get revealed at the beginning but i feel changing that perk is a bit hard as it is mainly useful on already overtuned killers. So that perks fault lies more in the killers rather than it’s own strengths. (Since stronger killers don’t need to run much if at all any gen defence).
-
@NerfDHalready said:
this would also balance the hook states shared across distortion users and the rest. no chase for distortion gamer, then their auras start getting revealed. they get chased, but then they regain the tokens and can hide. i'd add gen progression as a requirement to token regeneration as a survivor player (at least they should be useful if they refuse to take aggro) but as a killer player chase time only seems tempting. in return the time required for a token should get lowered though.
such changes to the perk would be healthy, but if bhvr feels lazy they should AT LEAST make it not regain tokens both in terror radius and in chase, i think it currently does. it would make its working requirement match with stake out.
i like this gen progress idea actually, would encourage players using it to hide less and i guess still make it valuable to those stealth players. also yes i agree if it were only chase time the time required for each token would be reduced (cause in general chases already hardly function plus it’s a harder requirement).
also yes you are correct the perk can recharge currently both in and out of chase as long as it’s in the TR.
-
before they added the 1 hour match i had 3 matches i remember fondly going over an hour long.
Once i was playing plague and the survs were litterally allergic (pun unintended) to gens i kept patrolling for minutes upon minutes, it took atleast 75+ MINS.
another match i was playing dead dawg saloon (dont remember as who, and these 2 clauds were just hiding most of the match, over 60 mins passed.
NOW THIS NEXT MATCH, this was legit around 90 mins long, it was on the game and i was Artist. I said ######### it around after 20 mind and went on DBD mobile, completed 2 FULL MATCHES on there and after that, i patrol shortly and the survs did half of 1 gen…
this game desperately needs an anti-hide feature bad.

Any Means is about resetting loops, Alert is about knowing where the killer is, and Windows is about knowing what pallets haven't been thrown down or destroyed. I don't use MFT, so can't speak on that combo, but I think the sudden popularity of WoO has more to do with solo queue getting harder to tolerate and players feeling like they can only really rely on themselves now. I've been playing for 3 years and for 2.5 of those years I never even considered WoO as part of my build. It had zero appeal to me. It's recently become a staple, I use it often. I can't say exactly what has changed, as after 2.5 years I've got alot of map knowledge up my sleeve already so it's not about that.
I've also theorised before that the recent cutting down of pallets in map reworks may be playing a role too. When there aren't alot of pallets to begin with, and alot more dead zones, people want to know in advance exactly what they have to work with.
Any means and Alert also tell you if a pallet has been thrown down though (any means shows dropped pallet aura’s, Alert gives a sound queue and aura for a pallet or a gen is kicked). WoO is just an easier to use, less effective alternative but it’s not an awful choice, especially with your point about the map reworks, it’s kinda the better option currently with how much they keep changing maps right now lol

and here we go... they buff something for the sake of variety and now we start molding over BACKGROUND PLAYER. of all exhaustion perks... I think that at this point some people will only be happy when the game has no perks and you instantly spawn with all survivors sacrified as killer and at the exit gate as survivor.
I want variety as much as the next person but i find being able to guarentee a pallet save from over 20 meters away slightly ridiculous. I genuinely think instead if they made the duration like 10 seconds or something you could buff it without it being atrocious to play against.
-
@[Deleted User] said:
I never see anyone use this exhaustion perk over the others. I don't think a small buff to the speed will change that.
Well the reason people didn’t use it over the others is because of how extremely niche it was, now with it giving you double speed it can lead to the lower tier killers being bullied while the perk still does nothing against the better killers.
Could just be doom saying and overreacting tho.

He isn’t a failed killer design, he’s just ridiculously difficult for the average players. So while you wont see him much he is decently well designed.
-
No tbh, i think the reason people haven’t been enjoying it is cause they’ve played it too much. Taking a small break or playing something else really helps with your overall enjoyment (personally have done the same).
i also think some people have refused to adapt cause people have just gotten better at the game over time.
-
@ReverseVelocity said:
Yeah, same honestly. I really like playing her (and not in a way that makes the game last for an hour).
I hope they lean more into buffing the info/chase aspect of her while toning down her 3 gen potential. Drones could end up being a means to get Claw Traps onto Survivors primarily, which would buff her Chase power significantly and give her tracking.
However, currently, the Claw Traps aren't good enough to warrant a flat nerf to her Drones. She will really need counterbuffs, which I hope will be included with her rework.
Also they should give her voice lines.
Skull Merchant is probably the original killer that could benefit from voice lines the most. She could have the most perfect ######### talking and cheesy reference lines (since she’s basically a weeb). Like her voice line potential is insane.
also indeed hoping they focus on her chase more, but then again, i’m also praying they don’t freddy her and all of her old playstyle and kit is gone and she’s just only an anti-loop character.
-
killer’s with actual anti-loops and fun brain plays while in chase. I’d rather go against a god tier Nurse cause atleast she’ll stick chase (and the match will end quickly).
idc if I get a million Weskers because Wesker is fun I want to think smart and predict in chases, hence I’m usually not a fan of a lot of M1’s (not all of them)

Not really simply because the idea of "its boring" doesn't stack up as a reason for change.
"Boring" is about the worst qualifier to justify something changing in game. Why? well its completely subjective and because Wraith mechanically chases, hits and downs survivors like pretty much any other killer has to, then the entire game must be boring for him to be boring while doing it.
Apparently hit and run tactics are boring now too,
So lets re-cap on boring according to the forums in general,
- Camping is boring
- Tunneling is boring
- 3 -gens are boring
- Hit and run is boring
- Most killer powers are boring
- Addons are boring
That covers just about everything gameplay wise, I think its time for all these bored players to find another game. All the fruitless complaining about boredom is getting... well... boring.
this community is whiny yes, but how is hit and run not widely considered boring though? Everyone agrees chases are the most fun part right?
i don’t think a single person wants a hit and run meta to exist. Otherwise we‘ll get an even worse 3 gen meta with everyone just healing for half the match (although considering how long COH existed, I’m not surprised people will be okay with that).
i don’t even hate that many killers. There’s only like 5 killers I even partly dislike and spirit is the only killer I think needs to just be eradicated from existence (because why the ######### would they make such an accessibility nightmare).

tbh, I feel like a beginner killer should have a power that encourages chasing and learning it and not disincourage it.

I disagree. His rework is the best example of a rework done right. All his add-ons have their own uses. He's strong enough to win games if you know what you're doing and use proper slow down. And I don't think he's boring either I actually find him really fun to go against. People complain about tunneling with any killer but the way I look at it if you're being tunneled If you are better in chase than the killer you can waste so much of their time they just lose chasing you which is a win for you. Chasing is also one of the funnest parts of the game. The hit and run playstyle with wraith has been heavily buffed ever since the sloppy butcher buff and healing changes. But it's not impossible to counterplay Like I said earlier with good positioning and game awareness.
chases are the most fun part yet Wraith is one of the most anti-chasing gameplay characters in the game.
Hit and Run makes the game stale.
people will tunnel no matter what, no matter if the survivors is bad or good. with Wraith it’s just so much more abnoxious because he can just follow you in stealth and wait out the timer.
-
@HR_Helios said:
Wraith is in a good spot. But I'd like to see his kick addon (to a weaker extent) be made base and then nerf the add-ons slightly (so that the purple shadow dance would be the same strength) wraith has counterplay and if you're attentive and have game sense you know what his points of interest are (which Gens he's likely to patrol after a hook, where he last seen survs, etc) which allows you to pre leave to tiles. Wraith is pretty bad in chase. He's loopable like any other M1 just have to be mindful of his post cloak speed. If he has shadow dance drop pallet and slow vault it and keep vaulting until he fully uncloaks or at the very least wastes more of his time.
i didn’t say he was OP by any stretch. He’s just so dry and boring to play against because it’s the same every match against him.
part of the reason he is boring is because he is on the weaker side but outright buffing him would also lead to issue because his power is terribly designed.
-
@Pepsidot said:
Hit and run IMO is one of the most boring things to face. This includes any killer that can do so well, but Wraith is prob the best at it. I don't like vsing ghostface on lerys or even 'spooky' myers for the same reason.
this FR, we need more encouragement for killers to stay in chase, hit and run is extremely boring.
this would be difficult to do without just outright giving killers chasing buffs (which ngl wouldn’t be good).
but, i think what they could do is make all gen regression in the game based on downs and hooks and just a little stronger. But that’s still not perfect so dunno.

I feel like you don't know how many addons you just complained about. He has several tiers of addons that do the same thing but with varying degrees. Wraith is also a stealth killer, so it's pretty understandable he would focus on surprise attacks as much as possible.
oh I’m very aware of the amount of add-ons I complained about. He honestly needs an add-on pass because of how many overlapping things he has.
yes, stealth killers focus on surprise attacks, nothing against it. My point is because of how painfully his power is designed, every match against him feels the same because his power only rewards a very specific playstyle while other stealth killers can be rewarded in different manners or do other things.
he honestly needs a mini rework.

You know that all contracts aren’t the same right? There are many examples and instances the IP holders hold the right to pull their property at any point. Skull merchant is either a failed licensed chapter which would explain why she felt so rushed and terribly designed, or they legitimately spent time with on her and she still ended up being hot garbage. It doesn’t matter at the end of the day, SM is still terribly designed and thought of.
if BHVR actually went for a contract like that then it would’ve been ridiculously stupid on their part.
NTM, why did Alien not get pulled but Predator did???
even it was a failed license, it could’ve only been early in development and wouldn’t have damaged her development severely.

They don’t do gore like that and never have. They don’t want their game pulled for censoring purposes.
idk, a spine pull is possible, BHVR did confirm part of the reason is gore isn’t super high is from technical limitations on the survivor models.
depends on how certain countries would react to a spine but otherwise ignoring laws it’s possible since a spine pull wouldn’t require tampering with the model and just summoning a separate prop.
-
okay, this just feels like unnecessary hate.
her power is god awful yes, but nothing is even rlly that bad about her besides a wonky wall break anim and a “lackluster” Mori (despite it being lore perfect). there’s effort put into her, just not smart effort.

Her mori definitely seems like it was supposed to be planned for Predator. It seems to me like he was supposed to come out of his camouflage and that's the reason the survivor has no clue she's behind them. Her current mori makes no sense and seems extremely rushed.
Her mori is meant to be lore fitting, in her lore she’s known for placing her victims in elaborate scenario’s and planning out everything weeks in advance.
her mori doesn’t make sense in DBD but in lore it’s perfect as it’s an accurate way of her killing someone; oblivious and quickly.

How does this confirm anything lol? For all you know it is a failed chapter and they needed more time to work the details of the license out. Billy is Leatherface before they got the rights, Legion is practically Ghostface before they got the rights, who's to say Skull Merchant wasn't originally intended to be Predator?
this argument is so bad lmao. they’re not going to work on a chapter (or atleast very minimally) until they secured the license. No way they’d have to make her completely similar to Predator just cause of that.
yes hillbilly is definitely inspired by Leatherface (truth), but that’s still like over a year and a half before hand that he was added. Ntm leatherface was a rushed mess 🤷

Controversial: Skull Merchant.
I enjoy playing as her a lot because her tracking is extremely satisfying and she helps me chill as killer because i’m able to tell where everyone is. (And no, i don’t 3 gen).
also her tome made her a really cool character and made her a lot more intimidating.
