  • This is beyond annoying..it was very annoying before, but now? with the "new and improved" one, it's unbearable. So, you're telling me it's gonna do that obnoxious sound AND the long animation ALL THE WAY TO 100?!? Who designed this? that guy needs to be put in charge of the broom at BHVR.

Remove this obvious marketing ploy to get you to feel "rewarded" when accessing it, and reminded of all the "goodies"..it's gonna make ppl not want to even go there to collect rewards.

Ruin appeared in the shrine the week it got nerfed. I don't think it's random at all.

and DS is in there this week, so it gives some reason for joy and to play the game for survivors who didn't buy the DLC during one of the worst times to be a survivor in the entirety of DbDs history; the Shrine is 100% not random and they can tweak it and add what they want. Whomever actually believes they wouldn't do that is just being childish and has no clue how the real world works.

  • I don't hurt the ones I love!

  • Man, I wish someone paid me money on 3 or 4 different fronts to play my game and then politely asked for me to double the arbitrary currency of said game, which wouldn't cost me any money but would instead garner a little bit of good will with the populace..only for me to laugh in his face and say: "NO! You get NOTHING and like it!" and end it with: "Now buy more of my overpriced skins, lackluster tomes and DLCs!"

I'd love to be able to give BHVR praise but I keep getting disappointed over and over again.

It has something to do with that "strategic investment" that NetEase made in BHVR. It's bringing those sweet Chinese money-making mechanics to the West.

  • Only reason to play the game imo; aquire skins, disregard currency!

1 mil is not enough bp; it only gets you to ~level 40 and that's if you pick cheap nodes.

  • People DC to spite the killer so the killer should get ALL the bp from the person who dc'ed, in order to dissuade them!

  • I like how @op asked us to basically stop whining and give examples of how to improve the SWF situation, so we can discuss them..and then proceeded TO NOT RESPOND TO ANY OF IT and keep quiet.

You should be in politics, mate! You're very efficient and up front about things! I'm sure people would 100% vote a survivor main to political office, you guys seem to get the job done!

  • Clown

    • limit amount of items and tools that can be brought into a trial, depending on the SWF size (2 items/ tools for a 4 man, 1 item/ tool for 3 and 2 man SWFs)
    • limit the amount and type of exhaustion perks allowed in a SWF (easier to do) or nerf all exhaustion and 2nd chance perks for SWFs (harder to do and probably not feasible)
    • allow killers to opt-in for playing against SWFs (I shouldn't be forced to play against organized teams of people, if I don't want to - to hell with how it affects matchmaking; if you care about affecting matchmaking, don't allow SWFs anymore and the issue goes away).
    • have matchmaking always put a killer that's of higher or at the very least, equal MMR to the highest MMR survivor in the SWF (no more bullying new killers by getting a buddy on a 20 survivor account, alongside you and your other rank 1s)
    • lock-in survivor loadouts and survivor character after a SWF queues up but allow the killer to change his accordingly, once he sees what he's up against.
    • mark all SWF configurations (not needed if the opt-in feature is added, which it probably won't because reasons)

..off the top of my head; some suggestions might suck, some might be very good but SOMETHING needs to happen.

That's what I'm afraid of tbh. Like that the way they're determining "skill" with certain killers is just super shallow. Like if it goes off your Lvl with that killer then I guess I'm great at Nurse! (I am not great at Nurse)

If it's based off Devotion Lvl I got most of that by playing Surv, so that means nothing.

Like I'm just honestly worried that this is going to fix nothing in the long run. Just a pretty band-aid to make it look like the problem's gone away when it really hasn't.

The power of placebos is incredible.

I remember seeing many threads on here after they launched the system on xbox and people who were playing on pc thought it was active on pc as well and started making threads about how great the new system is and how they noticed a real change after a few games with the "new" system.

All the while nothing was changed, it was just the way their brain worked and the placebo they got from thinking it was active.

  • I'm willing to bet it's nothing special - it probably just counts how many games you had with that killer total, how many you won (3+ kills) and how many you lost (>2 kills), quality of badges earned at different tiers of the rank system (for instance how many iridescent at rank 1 games), your devotion level..probably it also has some coefficient for games where you used addons and moris and that's about it.

They won't explain the new system. They will say it's to make sure it doesn't get abused but probably the explanation is that the new system makes extensive use of the old system and as such, not much has changed, other than giving it a PR spin.

The philosophy of ultra rare addons that I personally like is to add some new aspect of gameplay rather than just being a flat power spike. They should change the expected gameplay of the character, like Judith's Tombstone (spending the game stalking rather than doing normal chases) or Plague's Iridescent Seal (gives shorter corrupt purge when generators are completed).

That's one thing I appreciated about Nurse's addon reworks - there were a lot of addons that changed how she could play and use new tactics. The problem is that most people just prefer to stick to and use flat power spikes with what they know rather than experimenting with "weird" addons. Balancing something being interesting but not breaking a character is hard to do when it can create an entirely new strategy on its own.

I would love to be able to try things out and enjoy quirky stuff like that, if not for the fact that if I play the tombstone (to use your own example) and try something different on Myers, against competent survivors, I would lose 4 gens by the time the addon activates since all they would do is hide and/ or deny me stalk while they feed eachother information on where I am and what I'm doing.

Also, the "quirky" and game altering addons are few and far between, with a lot of them being actually harmful to your chances of winning or downright annoying like the Waterlogged Shoe, Rules Set no.2, Renjiro's Bloody Glove etc.

Glad Billy got an addon rework (which for all intent and purpose has made his addons worse) whilst a killer like Demogorgon still has a brown addon be her most useful and powerful one.

Well, yeah, I'd definitely want the game reworked to where the big rare add-ons offered more interesting and varied tactics rather than just popping gens in 40 seconds or killing everyone after one hook. Some of them absolutely do, but a lot do not. It feels like flaming the fuels rather than fixing a more systemic issue to have items like Mori in the game (at least the iridescent one, the one that allows you to murder the final survivor is within what I consider the expected power range of add-ons) because it just completely wrecks the balance of the game. We talk about how this perk or that perk is overpowered, but you can literally bring an item that quadruples the chances of you winning the game, all on its own, with no extra skill or thought required. I think that's the most boring solution to what could be really interesting tools.

And I definitely think survivors have too many second chances. You already start the game with 3 lives, baseline, with unlimited free heals from teammates (when I first started I legit thought you needed to have a medkit to heal others) and items you can find on the map, if you start without one. It all just feels built in such a way that the whole thing starts to come across as wonky and weird, I wish I could describe it better. The more you know and the better you get, the more "off" it all seems. At least, that's been my experience.

Small correction there - you don't win anything as killer, if you mori all the survivors; you actually "lose" because the entity will be displeased you did not sacrifice them. So if you use the mori you basically lose yourself the game, whereas if you bring a key or a map, you ensure everyone gets out and not only "win" but also pip more consistently.

This situation is very indicative of the way the developers and especially the "balance team" see things.

Unfortunately I think you're right. If Survivors have fun, they'll recommend the game to their friends so they can play together which results in more game sales and more potential cosmetics purchases. Me and my friends all bought DBD to play survivor together and we each started playing killer after already playing survivor. It'll be really disappointing if that really is the devs plan for this game.

"if that really is the devs plan for this game"?

There is no "if" man, that is 100% the plan. Remember the latest couple of polls BHVR ran? regarding your gaming habits/ how you learned about DbD/ what your current experience is with the game/ time spent/ what you enjoy or don't enjoy about the game? Ye?

Give this a read (same concepts apply) - https://medium.com/@danschoenbaum/keep-them-hooked-the-3-steps-to-increasing-player-retention-in-online-gaming-37a7b05bc282

  • Not necessarily adding to the discussion regarding addons but killers aren't supposed to make the game enjoyable for survivors.

The way the game works currently pushes killers towards a toxic game style if they want to win. If you want to not have to deal with Moris, then ask the developers to remove all the 2nd chance perks the survivors get, ask them to balance said perks, ask them to remove the hatch and keys..and to start balancing the game for SWF or remove SWF from the normal matchmaking pool and just leave it for solo players.

I hardly ever use a Mori but I will use one when I see what looks to be a SWF using keys/ maps/ a flashlight on every member or gen rushing toolkits. More often than not (90% of cases) it turns out I was right and they are the tbagging, clickyclicky boys who talk trash in post-game chat regardless if they won or lost. So far, that behaviour is encouraged by BHVR with no sign of curtailing it. How about killer fun? are SWFs worried about killer fun?

  • I had some time to think on this, after everything was said and done (by BHVR) and again - I used my cynical business filter when looking at this.

Honestly, I think it was done to boost DLC sales. Billy and Nurse were the only killers in the free roster which were considered S tier, with all the other ones coming from DLCs that you either have to pay $ to get (Freddy and arguably Ghostface) or you have to grind an ungodly amount of hours in-game for shards (Oni, Spirit, Hag).

What did they do? They 1st nerfed Nurse so that only the top players who were beyond godly with her can still be somewhat godly still, whilst the regular player avoids her like crazy because she's just not that fun to play and the return for playing her is garbage compared to literally any other killer (again, talking about average players and even some upper bracket ones), Playing Nurse feels like you are subjecting yourself to torture and frustration, just for the sake of it - which is why not even the best killers in the game, the people with thousands upon thousands of hours, the streamers, the Fog Whisperers, play her or main her.

After Nurse was done and dusted, the next big S tier killer that was left in the free roster was Billy - great mobility (which actually is the main factor for a killer being considered S tier), lethality in the form of a skill one shot mechanic, addons that complemented his playstyle and a basic kit that in itself, would allow you to play him successfully (if at a lower degree of "feel good" factor but still usable).

Sure, everything I just said meant that Billy mains in the top echelon of players would be absolute monsters with him but how many players does that actually mean would be superhuman with him? probably not a lot but still, the dev team decided to "balance" him for that population instead of the bulk of their playerbase. Why? Because those players will just either move to a new main and still own or they would just adapt to Billy and be successful despite being gimped by these changes - because instead of them deleting a 4man team and slug them down in 30sec - they can now just kill 2 or 3 and then wait a bit before getting the 4th.

The survivor population (which are ecstatic about these billy nerfs) will be shown once again that they have big daddy BHVR to protect them and their DS, DH, Unbreakable, Soul Guard, Sprint Burst, hatch, gen rush, keys, SWF pro M1 gamer plays. Only people truly impacted by these changes are the killer players who bought the game thinking they can enjoy and compete, even though they didn't have DLCs or any other killer apart from the ones on the free roster (which is not free since you need to pay for the game to begin with but that's a whole other discussion).

BHVR did a business gamer move and with one fell swoop managed to back their biggest cosmetic purchasers (survivors) happy, make new players that only had Billy to help them compete at higher levels - either buy some DLCs to get some more "power" or just stop playing or play underpowered killers whose kits will never be addressed because the status quo must stay. So the fallout from such a move is minimal, whilst the monetary gain is incredible since those players already bought the game so it doesn't matter what they do next, if they quit - the money was already spent and if they chose to buy more DLCs - that's just free moolah in the coffers of BHVR.

As long as they balance the game around increasing profits, the ash in mouth feel will continue to be there for killers. I'm regretting more and more that I started playing DbD and the money I put into it. I wish I knew what I know now, would have saved me a lot of frustration and money.

  • If the most OP killer in the whole game, that NEEDED to be nerfed into the ground, including addons and basekit - CANNOT contain this issue, then what hope do we mere mortals have?

Also, as I am not linking a tru3ta1ent clip, but one of the Saviour - I'm sure people will now focus on the issue being presented and NOT on the person who presents it, right? RIGHT?

New Matchmaking addresses this issue. Probably will be out today.

Damn, glad you had a crystal ball and used it to tell the future. Thank you!

  • I made a long ass reply to this but when I hit "post" it said it's going for "moderation" first. Cool system!

  • Everyone I see lately uses the excuse that "the new MMR will (hopefully) fix it" but usually, people who say this have no clue how an MMR system should work. In order for the system to work, it must first rely on the game being reasonably well balanced, up to a point where even minute skillful plays can be tracked and attributed correctly. It then needs decent representation on all tiers of play, so natural upward progression in terms of skill can occur (aka a lot of ppl playing).

DbD is currently anything but balanced, with broken mechanics and abusable things that can be done to completely tilt a game in a certain direction. By the very nature of the game - you can "lose" by doing things correctly (like how you can kill 3 people as killer and only safety-pip or mori them and get "entity displeased" even though your job is to kill them and on the other side of the coin, survivors can use the key to open the hatch and let everyone out and it's still considered a "win") and you can "win" by just playing enough in that trial (hello, survivors).

At peak time, there are around 30-40k playing during the weekend and 15-25k during the week peak hours, meaning that outside of those times, even fewer people play and depending on those people's particular skill level, the matchmaking will attempt to provide "balanced" games. It's like being dealt a trash hand to play in the game of life, it's bad but it's all you've got so you have to play it as best you can - this is the MMR system they are trying to implement.

On top of all of this is the fact that you have to assume the system being put in is decently thought up and tested, which from what I've seen of BHVR - they have a poor track record of achieving.

All in all, I want to be proven wrong so much because I really like the game, but I think the "new" MMR system won't do much to alleviate these issues and is currently just being used as a scapegoat to justify peoples opinions. That won't be the case forever though but it will still buy BHVR many many more months of not actually doing anything impactful, under the guise of tweaking the fledgling MMR system (it's already been, what? like 7-8-9 months of hearing this MMR excuse any time someone complains of horrible matchmaking - my first thread on this forum was made out of frustration caused by the atrocious matchmaking I encountered when I was just starting out and I've seen people there posting the same things as here).

    We'll wait and see, meanwhile..

  • @SloppyKnockout said:

It has one already. You can only use it once, and then you have a perk slot that isn't being used.

like Ruin which can dissapear in 20sec at the START of a game, instead of having no outplay like Unbreakable.

  • It's not a problem, it's by design.

You are playing an asymmetric 1v4 game. When you escape, you should be getting just as much as the killer, if it was a balanced non-depip game for the survivors who escaped and if everyone escaped, then you would be getting more than the killer.

What's the incentive to play killer? good survivors just bully the living hell out of you, regardless of the skill level the killer has - take the group FunGoose runs with..they would bully any killer out there, be it Otz, Scorpionz, etc. SWF groups already farm way faster and better than a killer can, just by virtue of faster queues. Survivors also have WGLF to match BBQ&Chilli though granted it's harder to get stacks from since a competent SWF gets the job done way before the counter can get to max but still.

If anything, the game needs a boost to killer BP gain or perhaps IRI shard gain, in order to incentivize more killers to play which would lead to faster queues for everyone and a better matchmaking system. The game currently keeps killer players on life support, just barely enough to keep them playing (though more and more are either playing survivor nowadays or straight up quitting/ taking a break due to the questionable balance decisions lately).

So, no..survivors don't need MORE bloodpoints for doing gens. They need a limit on the amount of exhaustion perks a SWF can bring into a trial, they need a limit on the amount of items a SWF can bring into the trial, they need to be locked in just like the killer is before a trail starts and things like DS and Unbreakable need a revision and a nerf since jumping into a locker and then DSing the killer should not count as the killer "tunneling" you (etc, etc).

  • I'm not even gay but I would 100% shell out some hard earned real world currency to be able to play a Bill wearing pink woman's lingerie. I think it would capture the feel of playing survivor very well.

  • Because if you lose them, you need to play more to get them back. 200iq play from the Devs!

  • The Killers are the real heroes of this game, not the survivors, is all I'm gonna say on the matter.

  • Hook him in the basement, if the basement is near, for extra points. If not, then just hook him at the closest hook.

    Survivors don't deserve any mercy!

  • There are plenty of advantages for SWF already. I don't think 360 degree view and 2 or more sets of eyes is really needed. If anything, once a survivor dies, he should not be able to watch the game anymore until the game ends.
