  • She is indeed amazing, if your opponent is bad at the game. Good survivors will know how to deny your power by triggering traps forcing you to resent them and lose chase pressure. Better survivors will know how to use the camera spin to their advantage do that even at loops traps are unconsecuential.

She is 110% so without traps she is just a joke at any loop that is not the new borgo tree tile.

Finally the totem thing you mentioned is very easy to counter as survivor, you trigger the trap and prerun, so the hag has to go back to the totem, while she does that you can do gens or reset if she gets some cheeky hits during the match. Point being she is NOT getting hooks if you are keeping her busy protecting the totem so devour doesnt get to be into play.

You can also bait her into taking a chase while another player does the totem and if she doesnt have the iri addon by the time she arrives the totem should be gone.

The only scenario were hag is actually obnoxious and I would consider actually very strong is a basement camping hag, that thing is an abomination to play against.

There is a video made by excize, a comp player, that gives the checks pot for it, so it is safe when you do that... I can look for it if you want...

Would appreciate it, and if he has evidence of reliable checkspots then yes I would agree its safe if the player its good.

  • @Halloulle said:

You do realise you don't have to finish every chase you start, right? Why do you let yourself be guided across the whole map from pallet to pallet?

With Nemo I don't really care about pallets soon enough - but with other killers I generally do some bouncing around, get injures, get pallets out of the way, push survs off gens regularly so the pallets go faster than the gens. Except for coordinated pre-leaving swf (who don't need to drop the safety-pallet close to the gen) it usually works pretty well. More makro gaming and less chase gaming but that's one of the oddities of that map.

If pallets go faster than gens on gideon the survivors are either doing a challenge, trying to throw the game or have no idea what they are doing. The map provides enough safe pallets for gens to be done against any m1 killer.

Fully depends on the loop, there is this corner pallet in Lery which has check spots in the sense of vault when killer goes there and it is super easy to mess up, playing that right is actually quite hard...

Yes, thats why I am discussing gideons map layout, because unlike other maps gideon makes almost every checkspot easy to play.

Also that pallet you are talking about I would not classify as safe, because the killer can get a hit on it without breaking the pallet.

Looping correctly requires mechanical skill for timings and tight looping, as well as general map awareness, while coinflips only require luck: you either guessed right or you didn't, nothing else you can do.

How is holding a checkspot at a safe loop more skillfull than actually playing a tile where your opponent can outplay you?. Like you know you are 100 % safe, the only requirement you have to not get hit is have functional eyes and br able to react to what your eyes see. While on mindgameable tiles you need to look out for the red stain, know when to bait a vault or a double back, when to actually vault or double back.

One is literally playing a flow chart where you are guaranteed success unless you make a MASSIVE blunder or you are playing against a nurse and the other one actually requires you to do something that is not directly obvious.

I flipped a coin and guessed right! I can live another 5 seconds! And now I flipped another coin and this time I didin't guess right, so I lose a health state. Wow, much skill, such counterplay!

So the correct and fun way to play is: predrop pallet→ rotate to safe corner of the loop→ hold the checkspot→ wait until the killer breaks the pallet or continue looping, you are not gonna get hit anyways if you have eyes→ find another pallet (its gideon there are safe pallets everywhere dont worry)→ repeat until gens are done. If gens are not done and you wasted all pallets your team is made up of either AI( and even the bots repair gens) or they were throwing on purpose.

Idk how this is any interesting aside from just having the fun of getting the W.

  • @Junylar said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3740572#Comment_3740572

Breaking them is the counterplay. Or you want every pallet be by a piece of rock you can just lunge around? How are survivors supposed to survive then?

So the counterplay is breaking the 20 safe pallets by which time any team with a collective iq over 40 should have 4 or 5 gens done?

I get its fun to practically have loops were you cannot under any circumstance get hit (aside from nurse) but this map has horrible gameplay.

Only way this map is not BS is if you play an m2 killer, it baffles me people who get 4k by plagues, legions or pigs in that map, like they should be professional footballers with those throwing skills, its like a blight losing on midwhich, you require effort to lose that match.

OP, we had a winter event where snowmen were overpowered for survivor. How come you never mentioned that event?

Do not tell them about the portals from the halloween event, their narrative couldnt handle such a thing.

  • @Xernoton said:

No. Blight is still a lot stronger. Hillbilly is definitely a very powerful killer and he has an addon (LoPro Chains), that now pushes him too far but Blight is still better. The main difference between Blight and Hillbilly is, that a Blight can always readjust. Billy on the other hand cannot. He misses you and you are safe for a while. Billy is also more predicatable then Blight and needs more set up for his power work in chase.

I see that the "showcase" that Hens did a while ago was brought up in this thread and I find it funny, that the we take this video without even the least bit of salt.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-zw3TipZqU

Not only does the Hillbilly have a stronger loadout, the survivors also play pretty terrible. These are comp players and yet, they don't know that the syn car is incredibly unsafe against the new Hillbilly and try to loop that of all tiles on the map? Pre drop the pallet and leave like you'd do with any other loop (except maybe shack). Or how about the Nea on Thompson House, that walks in a dead zone, so the killer has an easier time back revving her instead of using her Sprint Burst to get away. Survivors in public lobbies play a lot better than that. This looks like paid actors.

If this is the best they can do, then that's embarrassing.

You point to this showcase when exposed to this argument but if we discard this showcase and take into account the recent tourneys were people are already used to new billy and it is still a general concensus he is incredibly good, even better than blight then how do we do it? Shall we ignore how billy is dominating better than blight even in comp environments because a showcase months ago was not done right? Have you seen dbdleague recently? Billy went from being a joke to a literal beast, even I who personally always believed him to be a meme killer have to admit, new billy is a force to be reckon with.

Yep, I do. If not, I'd rather have them decrease his cooldowns a bit instead of having his abilities be too strong.

On the other hand, when it comes to FoTD, I am not sure if I think any nerf is necessary. But when it comes to Mage Hand, again, I think even after the nerf he will still be viable. And I do believe he will be viable even if FoTD can't be spawned on top of survivors anymore. It's still gong to be good at denying vaults.

If Fotd loses its insta hit, vecna loses his only complex mechanical skill. Not only that but he loses the point of playing him entirely because a lot of other killers can just deny vaults/pallets while having good mobility.

It just makes people go back to the already used killers and leave vecna to dnd fans or people who strongly main him. But tbf he is not that special so that might be a good thing.

Players can't always just "get better". The difference between average MMR and high MMR isn't just time and effort. There are so many reasons why some people will permanently be in average MMR, which includes things like personal dexterity, reaction times, hardware limitations, personal eyesight, personal hearing, ability to multitask, how much the player is willing to leverage killer strategies that might be unfun for survivors, whether or not the player actually wants to push their MMR, etc.

In reality, many players are stuck in diminishing returns, and some get stuck at average MMR and some get stuck somewhere at high MMR. It feels like you are claiming that average MMR player experiences aren't important, and should be ignored because it's "the player's fault" they are in average MMR.

If this were a fighting game or another type of game that required a lot of skill I would agree but its dbd, the only reason you do not get better at it is either you have no interest to do so or you suffer from a physiological pathology that heavily hinders your senses.

So, just to be clear: I'm not saying "I already disproved that because I think what I'm saying is right". I'm directing you to the fact that I've already laid out a response to the thing you're saying. It's not that I'm saying it's 100% fact, it's that those are my reasonings and you're not actually responding to them.

You haven't added anything to this discussion. You're just repeating the claims I made this post to counter. You're acting like all there is to her is zoning out survivors with mid-chase drones, and ignoring any attempt I make at pointing out that this isn't true. You even tried to duck out of the conversation entirely when I confronted you on that directly.

I am more than open to debating my points. That just requires acknowledging my points and trying to counter them. You think some of the arguments I laid out are outright wrong? Make that case! I'm more than down for discussing it. You just aren't doing that.

You have done exactly the same when people showed you why the skill ceiling with SM is so low and the argument of her requiring very few skill is true to a lot of people. You just refuse to acknowledge that she requires by many orders of magnitude very low skill in order to get results effectively.

You just repeat your point like its 100% fact when way more people have showed you why its not. Hell I even played some skull merchant after pixelbushs guide to discover her apparent skill ceiling, she is still one if not the easiest killer to master.

Because all the macro she requires all killer need to master too, so its not intrinsic to her, her techs are minimal and incredibly easy to master at that, using drones at an elevation to allow double floor scans just requires you to know its possible and be able to click m2, laser tagging is just as easy too.

And looping with her is just place drone at a loop and either go after them when they leave or continue looping until they get slowed and its a free down or they crouch and stand still and you get m1s.

You did not place a drone at a loop? How you are using m1 gameplay, which is not exclusive to SM and any m1 killer does. You are using her drones in the entrance to main building or inbetween chain tiles for clutch scans? Wow you needed to know where to places are and press m2, how difficult.

You complain people who undermine SM do not listen to your arguments however you yourself are incapable of accepting an argument that does not support your previous views.

But people say that the pub stomping is just for content. This I dont get. Who wants to watch a comp player stomp people that play casually, bm them and trash talk them without any provocation?

    I certainly do not.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3737291#Comment_3737291

Those guys I genuinly enjoy watching as well. I dopnt get why some comp - content creators deem it necessary to make bm'ing their content.

Im gonna comment on why I like to see comp players play against pub players as content, and thats because they can do flashy plays.

For example a comp team will never get huntress/unknown/slinger sniped, because they know how to position themselves, but pub players will let you get snipes through all of the match, good players wont.

So you can essentially see a good player be able to pull off incredible plays that wont work against decent players.

Its like watching a speedrun, you are seeing what the best players can do in an uncontrolled environment.

Also comp players in pubs are more entertainining (and here I will side with comp players) because a large mayority of pub players believe they are gods at the game for using strong items/addons/offerings, and seeing an actual good player give them a reality check is amazing.

I disagree, at close range it's too hard to dodge in between for the ability to be fair if the crouch counterplay got removed.

Have you ever baited an artist crow? You can do it incredibly close and its not really that hard.

Im not avocating for removing the crouch but even if it got removed moving in between them is still viable and very easy on top.

But how often killers throw games themself going for 8 hooks etc when they could just tunneled or they make bad decisions and mistakes. How much better you say average killer is compared to average survivor? Kill rates surely would be lot higher if killers played more optionally and not for fun etc.

I also think the average pub killer is not good at dbd, a lot of them rely wayyy too much on stacking slowdown, they do not use techs nor have optimal pathing in chase.

However I think this is what makes the game quite balanced because pub players be it survivors or killer tend to use obnoxious perks/offerings to overcompensate the lack of skill, so you will have matches with the killer using op addons while survivor use a map offering and obnoxious perks it cancels it out.

If we were to make thing balanced without BS item/offering/addons, the game would die because making the game rely on skill when the majority of the playerbase has very few skill will make any match feel like BS or just boring. Only comp players enjoy this type of matches as thats what they do.

Now directly to the question I think its more probable to find a high skilled killer in pubs than a high skill team merely because as killer YOU need to get good, but as survivor you have to avoid weak link meaning you need 4 people to get good at the game, which is 4 times the effort.

Its like any team game, you can be the best player out there if your team has that goldfish iq they will make you lose.

You're putting your thumb on the scale there by specifying MECHANICAL skill expression, though. Sure, she and a few other killers have much less of that - although not none, "lasertagging" is legitimately quite hard - but that's not what they're geared around so it doesn't matter as much.

After pixelbush did his guide I played some SM as lasertagging was quite interesting to me, it took me two matches to learn how to do it consistently.

Yes me being a slinger player might have affected that learning curve but if lasertagging is one of her biggest skill plays, you can learn it in about two trials.

  • @hermitkermit said:

I'm so confused haha. I haven't survived once on the new map, and maybe twice have one or so other people survived on it. In my experience the killer only has to stay either above or below, as the gens are easy to patrol, and the ones up the top are in corners which means there's only 2 points of exit, and since there's no windows once those pallets are gone it's a dead zone in a corner.

There is a literal infinite portal chain loop, if the killer chases you near main building you can force them to drop chase unless they are nurse/blight.

  • @jesterkind said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3736662#Comment_3736662

Oh, they edited it after I responded, I see.

Nope. Skull Merchant's skill expression can't be waved away, it's just there and it's not substantially less than a lot of other killers. If you don't find it compelling, that's perfectly fine, but it can't be dismissed for the sake of convenience in argument.

not it cant be dismissed, she does have some skill expression, however if you compare her to any killer that has mechanical skill expression, even only a little bit. She falls off, truth is while skull merchant haters love to sell the fact that she takes no skill, skull merchant defenders incredibly exagerate how much skill expression she has. Just getting one unknown bounce down takes about 1000 times more skill SM will ever take.

And thats why people tend to call her no skill, because the skill she does require its so easy to obtain you don't even take it into account.

TLDR she has skill its just that every killer has that level of skill to them at the very minimum.

  • They explained it, it technically requires some skill but its such a minimal amount you should not be proud of.

Its like beating a toddler at chess, you technically have to know how the game is played and have some skill to win, but its so laughable easy.

  • @hermitkermit said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3735979#Comment_3735979

In your opinion, what are killers that "cannot win"? It's very confusing to see as many killers who are deemed "weak/trash" have some of the highest kill rates in the game, like Onryo, Freddy, Myers etc. (not saying they don't deserve some qol changes and thigns but they are successfull) The lowest kill rate (doctor) is still winning 50% of the time. Even kill streaks are obtainable with some of these killers, like Twins has like a 800 something win streak as well. So which killers are you referring to that survivors want to go against that cannot win?

Most of those killrates are due to the average pub player being incredibly bad at the game tho. If you and your team are good at the game a killer like trapper should NEVER get anything over a 2k and im talking this 2k is done by the best trapper there is on a good map and prob camping basement.

However you will see some soloQ teamates go down like flies against trapper. As a way to see it, dividing numbers is NOT hard, its incredibly easy but if you judge how hard it is based on the results kindergardeners get when they try to divide you will conclude its something incredibly difficult.

Versing most m1 killers is a free win IF and its a big IF the team is good.

Which should not be an issue since most maps have clutter that can block UVX and getting rid of weakened is incredibly easy.

  • Cant you just keep running between the gaps of flight of the damned tho? Unless vecna spawn them directly inside your hitbox you can move slightly to position yourself in the gaps if you dont wanna crouch.

Absolutely not true. In the ptb, Vecna had to endure a massive slowdown after using Mage Hand, none of that is being reverted.

At my MMR, there's a 90% chance that Vecna will use Mage Hand. Whether it's to block the pallet, or lift it. I can still run him for a decent amount of time, I just feel like there isn't enough counterplay surrounding the usage of pallets.

I see Vecna casting Mage Hand, so I throw the pallet to buy a little time, but the Pallet is lifted almost as soon as the animation to throw it has finished. Hopefully this small nerf will change that. If not, guess I'll just have to figure out which loops I can greed and which ones I can't when playing against Vecna.

This new change makes mage hand worst that the ptb version, so you should not even worry about it existing in the first place after the update.

Nope but I do now. I still think its annoying that pallets seem to become increasingly less valuable the longer this game goes on. When you play against Trapper, ghost face or the Spirit for example you really see the value of pallets. As far as ranged attacks go, I really don't like them. I think in a game where a survivors main thing against the killer is to run that distance should always offer value. I don't think any ability should be able to down you from range except for Huntress.

Aside from spirit your post just shows you like to loop m1 killers, which is fun tbh a power trip is always fun but the fact new killers arent as useless as trapper or gf prob does annoy people who enjoy dunking on m1 meme killers.

With that said I have defended his presence in the game because dbd is literally the only game where all genres of horror converge, leaving fantasy horror outside is just dumb.

Also people saying he doesnt fit literally made me chuckle, like he doesnt fit in a game where a giant rabbit, a pink elefant, a teddy bear and so on can chase you?

Project W you mean the chapter based on one of the best survival horror games of all time featuring 2 of the most popular characters from said survival horror franchise? Okay

Incredible showcase of cluelessness, anyone who is familiar with the RE franchise would know that RE 5 and RE 6 are far from survival horror. The RE community has a debate between survival horror purists hating those games for not being survival horror like every week on the RE subreddit. Literally zero clue of the IP you are refering to. Wesker is one of the goofiest villains in the saga thanks to RE 5, not only that people who think RE is just pure survival horror have either only played the remakes or never played an RE game to begin with.

What is the best RE game of all time? While the debate is still ongoing, majority of the playerbase will have one answer, RE4 which is also the goofiest of the bunch. Trying to paint resident evil as this survival horror beyond bounds that is always serious is incredibly ignorant of the ip, without the bingos, bounder punching, one liners it eouldnt be RE. And taking into account dbd second RE chapter is based on the fifth entry which has as much survival horro as a COD campaign is just funny people try to paint it as a pure horror experience.

I mean we just got an entire chapter dedicated to a fantasy roleplaying game so…and its about everything and what people have been saying in regards to DBD. Adding in a fantastical wizard who's only form of 'horror' being a gory mori is still a bad decision that strays extremely far from what DBD has and should be. If having a gory mori is all it takes to be classified as horror adjacent then throw in Mortal Kombat while we're at it and make every survivor have to win a 1v1 fighting game stage against the killer💀

Bottom line is this about a collective things and the direction DBD is going in is just not good for the actual fanbase it has and is quickly becoming just another 'throw anything in it just for money' type game

Vecna is miles more scary than characters we already have in-game. I still laugh when skull metchant chases me, when she released she looked like an apex legends character.

Exploring different types of horror is what dbd does best, if we stuck with slashers the game would be stale af, then we got some supernatural killers, which was fine for a time, the it got boring. Thr devs explored killers of mythological origin and past times, slinger, oni plague and knight. Then they tried scifi which they mostly nailed if we discard skull merchant.

Hell I consider knight, plague, skull merchant, trickster and chucky funny characters not scary at all . Yes the game is horror themed but as a game that welcomes all types of horror, some of it may not be of your liking by mere probability.

I kinda wish BHVR focused on original killers and survivors more. What's the point of adding Sadako and then literally pissing on her through nerfs? Also, seeing Leon, Jill, or Ash reduced to "survivors who just run away from killers and get hooked" has always felt odd to me.

I'm not saying they shouldn't use licensed killers at all (I really like the Onryo even though I only play her in custom trials now), but I'll forever find some of the decisions weird. Fantasy horror is an interesting horror vector to explore, but I'm on the fence about BHVR deciding to use Vecna and the elves for this instead of coming up with their own ideas and concepts. Alas, the masses have been allergic to any originality for a long while.

"The masses" that play dbd have seen both sides of thr spectrum, amazing original chapters such as blight or dreadful ones such as skull merchant. Now if I keep a track record of original chapters we will have: knight, skull merchant, singularity and unknown. Two horrible chapters, one forgetable and one thats on the line of forgetable even tho its execution and concept was not only creative but amazing horror wise.

Why on earth would people want original chapters when you look at that track record? I say this as someone who loves the unknown and does play a lot of singularity too. While chucky and alien were not wesker, they were not a disaster of the likes of chess merchant or knight.

Sad reality for a lot of people is, dbd would be dead without their collabs, most new players come for the pop culture icons they see on the game, they play them and then get invested in the game.

this entire post for Oni can be just replaced with Blight everywhere.

Why on earth did the devs remove the only skill ceiling blight has?

I have no idea and disagree with the devs solution tho, I think hug tech should not have been removed, it took depth out of blight. Blight needed his addons gutted not to be made dumber to play, and I say this as someone who lacks the skill to play blight. Same with chucky, taking away his flicks made him one of the most boring and shallow characters in the game. thats why I am against them doing the same to oni.

Please provide the evidence that I’m wrong and I’ll concede to this argument.

Took me my damn time but I found it. While this CC does mention the lookup in his initial clips you can see its possible. Take a close look at the maria getting downed in fathers campell map. Looking up makes it wayy more manageable and easier to control but its not necesary if you have high anough DPI.

While yes doing the look up makes it leagues easier, it is not required for oni to flick.

Aside from that I still remain convinced, removing oni flicks just makes him a worse billy on all aspects. Hell he already is a worse billy thx to the billy buffs.

Its still the same killer and there is no new counterplay.

Yes, but the counterplay is still very easy, it was just that when a killer is new people over-estimate their worth. And I am saying this as someone who loves to play the unknown.

His only real power is the tp as his proyectile is the easiest to dodge in the game, only to be dethroned by vecnas skeletons next patch.

  • Ahh yes, because some people need to doesnt mean its necesary, its been shown that you can do it without looking up.

The skill ceiling you’re taking about is looking up with high sensitivity and moving your mouse left or right if you don’t see them in front of you.

Stop saying it’s a skill ceiling. It’s detrimental, and I’m not trying to be rude. You know what a skill ceiling is? Huntress crossmaps, orbitals, Unknown bounces. If you want flicks that actually require ‘skill’ to use then look at Wesker flicks. You can control which direction you throw someone and can extend the area at which you can grab someone ever so slightly.

The Oni flick is a 180 that’s impossible to dodge. The way you described it is literally the farthest from the truth. He’s right next you. You’re essentially arguing he should not be restricted from downing you at all. The point of Oni’s power is that he’s a powerhouse with all the tools to help you get a down. 180s completely overblow it with minimal effort.

Saying flicking requires you to look up just showed the amount of cluelessness you have on the topic, you dont even need to do that.

  • Saying you cant counter oni flicks shows a misunderstanding of them, yes they will hit you if you hug the corner, but you can juke him before that.

Bad onis are a joke because of that, his power is literally just a timer for you to go into corners while in chase and you will not get hit by it because well... They are bad and cannot flick.

Now playing against a good oni is scary af because they can actually make blood fury scary and you have to thing how to approach a chase, should you use a corner? Should you fake the window? Use collision to make him miss or a checkspot to avoid getting hit?

Why on earth should devs remove the only skill ceiling oni has?

I've gone against streamer SWFs doing clock call outs a few times and do still fine (one of them I was on Myers so don't tell me m1 killers can't do well). If you want to know what to do it's just be good in chase, no amount of efficiency can counter short chase times. Also SWFs may be more efficient but they also tend to be more altruistic which can be taken advantage of. If you just expect the flashlight every time you can't be surprised by one and get a few free hits.

My point exactly regarding information, if a swf can do clock callouts they have a lot of information. However they got downed fast by a myers, a myers lmao .Showing even with a lot of information being bad at the game will make a team lose. Literally zero excuse to not loop a myers until the fnaf chapter is out if he doesnt have tombstone.

Information cannot correct skill, you can know everything that happening but if you are unable to act accordingly you will still lose.

Literally all of them if you bring NOED and camp. Really I'm not joking, as long as you can get one person on hook you can probably get at least a three kill.

This doesnt work as long as survivors have an iq over 40, as if the totem is not next to the hook they can just get rid of noed and if they dont any decent team will just get thr 3 man escape.

survivor bodyblocking sbtfl is basically free gen defence for unknown. in fact, it is arguably more powerful then any gen defence perk. his ranged projectile can mostly ignore bodyblockers. if the obsession so cocky to the point of unhooking then you can machine gun slug them for free slug pressure. I think it is pretty underrated for him to be able to m2→m1→m2 and down someone in <10 seconds. It is just getting initial m1 hit is rough for him. that is my take on him. The look to disable power is survivor mechanic. it should be killer mechanic that killer can profit from.

His powers cooldown is 12 seconds so its literally imposible to what you just said. And this is coming from someone who thinks unknown is better than what people on here believe. But for a down to be that quick you have to be playing against babies first dbd match or people using 4 different types of hallucinogenic substances.
