  • Can.a dev or a mod tell me what I need to do? I am still getting the same initialization error on my PS4 and PS5. I even have a Nintendo switch that has DBD and can't get the game to fully load there either. I'm not having any issues with any other online game I play on any of those systems.

  • No luck deleting and reinstalling. Any other suggestions would be appreciated

Whenever I've gotten this issue on my Xbox, and restarting the game several times like you tried didn't fix it, uninstalling & reinstalling the game and the restarting the Xbox usually fixed it for me.

I've deleted on the PS5 and reinstalling. Hopefully that does the trick.

  • It is pretty sad that this is the way a new mechanic was chosen to be added to the game. Regardless of the official branding weaving spiders is 100% a killer perk.

I don’t see nearly the amount of tunneling/camping most people do while playing way more than most. I think there are a lot of matches where people blame camping or tunneling when in reality it was them making lots of mistakes, the killer capitalizing, and them taking no accountability. I see this from random teammates in solo queue after chat all the time. Not saying it doesn’t happen a lot, just way over exaggerated as an excuse when smarter decisions or playing better would have changed what happened.

As a survivor main I agree with you. Far too often you see survivors performing unsafe hook rescues. If other survivors are pulling you off the hook while the killer is still relatively close you can't blame the killer for taking the gift dropped in their lap by other survivors doing stupid things.

Maybe the end result is tunneling, but to me there's a major difference between a killer intentionally tunneling and tunneling created by survivors playing with zero strategy.

  • As a survivor main I just wish I got paired with the survivors that make this killer build necessary. In the majority of my matches the survivors I'm paired with wouldn't make even one gen regression perk necessary.

I play to get saves and memes so gens aren't part of my game loop. You doing gens and not getting downed ruins my game loop so you need to start playing competently for my playstyle.

Translation: this person intentionally plays in a way they know sabotages the other survivors and doesn't care

  • @TieBreaker said:

The role of survivor is the most volatile role in the game. There are so many things that can go wrong purely because you need everyone to pull their own weight to win. Survivors need to work as a team, but the game does everything it can to stop survivors from coordinating. The matchmaking fails to match survivors with teammates of equal experience. This is why survivor matches fall apart so much. I sometimes see killers wishing they had teammates, but that feeling would soon go away after they had lost their tenth match in a row because of their teammates screwing things up for them.

It's not surprising that survivors are so prone to giving up. Unless they are in a full SWF, there is no consistency. The game punishes them for bad matchmaking and when their teammates screw up. Try playing well, but losing several matches in a row because your teammates were inept. See how it affects your mood and your willingness to play through matches that start of poorly.

People can get mad at survivors for not having enough mental fortitude to stick it out, but at some point will have to realise that the game's systems set survivors up for failure. The only way to avoid that is to go outside of the game's systems, and that is a terrible solution for the problems that the game itself creates.

Yes. Especially this portion of what you said:

"This is why survivor matches fall apart so much. I sometimes see killers wishing they had teammates, but that feeling would soon go away after they had lost their tenth match in a row because of their teammates screwing things up for them."

That is the reason I cringe so much every time I see a killer main on these forums give some variation of the argument "if the team didn't accomplish their objectives you deserved to lose". When I say I cringe when I hear that it's not even because it's not true. On a strictly technical level it's a true statement, but it fails to take one hugely important factor into account. As a survivor this is a team game in name only. Almost every single match you are going to be paired with at least one, if not more than one, survivors that are either intentionally or unintentionally a detriment to accomplishing goals. Being paired with 3 other survivors that are all not only actively trying to accomplish the goals, but doing so with some semblance of strategy and intelligence is extremely rare.

  • I think a better way to say it is the basement is the most easily defended part of the map.

The moment a survivor is hooked in the basement it can easily become the most dangerous place on the map if the killer wants to make it so.

  • @xltechno said:

This problem will not be resolved unless there is a change in consciousness on the part of survivors.

People who look forward to chases but complain about the lack of safe loops aren't really enjoying chases in the first place. As survivors, the best part of chases is figuring out how to interact with the killer in unsafe loops. If survivors throw it away, there's no way he's enjoying the chase.

Most of the people who say they can't completing gen haven't even touched gen properly. People who criticize tunnels don't use tactics to force the killer into difficult situations beforehand, and only complain after they get into trouble.

It's okay to aim for the flashlight, but you don't realize that it's a mistake to waste time endlessly chasing the killer's ass without touching the gen at all.

Even though it is possible to try not to crowd 3 gens even in soloQ, they try to complete the gen in front of they without thinking about it.

These "basic tactics" are the minimum requirements and must be possessed in order to call self an expert. But anyone can pretend to be an expert by talking about the premise as if it never existed in the first place.

What about this forum? Certain people leave the topic when it comes to theoretical topics, and when they discover a new topic that is more advantageous to them, they jump on it and say, ``As an expert survivor, I advise a killer to be considerate of a novice''

I don't know how many times I've said it all over this forum, but I'll say it again. I hate sophistry.

As a survivor main I agree with everyone you said in this comment

Killers absolutely are more skillful than survivors on average. The primary reason for this is that killers are the reactionary role. The survivor has to learn how to loop, the killer has to learn how to counter it through mindgames and other tricks. If the survivor has no idea how to loop in a part of the map then the killer basically hooks them for free. Now consider that there is no training room in this game, no option for the survivor to really learn the loops, and that they're only going to be getting chased 1/4 of the time in their matches and most of them are naturally going to be terrible at the game. This also means that the killer is going to have an easier time learning how to play through public matches, as they get to observe what survivors do and try to counter it, but survivors have to first have all of this tile-chaining map knowledge from the get-go. It's kind of like a fighting game without a training room.

I absolutely agree with you. If you took the percentage of skilled killers versus the percentage of skilled survivors I think the killer side would have a much larger number. That is exactly why I think survivors are their own worst enemies, and often times the best perk any killer could have.

  • As a survivor main there was a time I would do that. As with all things though there are people that will take advantage of it. I had one too many times where I let a killer hit me only to have them hit exposed right before hitting me and then taking me to hang me. I don't mind playing casual, but trying to play nice in this game game...... nope. There are way too many people that see it as nothing but an invitation to take advantage of you.

  • The killer try hards that I don't get are the ones that will slug the 3rd survivor to go find the 4th when there are still 4 or 5 gens left. That isn't to say it's wrong. I'm not saying it shouldn't be done. I do understand the last survivor might get the hatch. It's just a level of sweaty I don't think I am capable of understanding.

  • @Nebula said:

You gotta have a slight ego problem if you think that your sole performances with a killer that's played by thousands of people worldwide are going to be the reason they get nerfed...

I thought pretty much the same thing when I was watching this guy, but I wouldn't doubt in the least that there are a lot of both survivors and killers that think they are doing something when they do these things

  • I wouldn't doubt in the least that is happening. I saw a ghostface main on tiktok awhile back that specifically said he farms every few matches and will frequently give the last survivor the hatch because he doesn't want the data to make it look like ghostface needs to be nerfed. If there are killers doing things in an effort to intentionally skew the data there is no doubt in my mind there are survivors doing the same thing.

  • I don't know what you'd call it but there is one perk I would play every match as a survivor if it existed.

Anytime any survivor blows a skill check, including myself, their aura is revealed for the next 10 seconds to the killer while all other survivors have their auras, scratch marks, and noises hidden for the same duration.

I get so tired of watching survivors blow skill checks and someone else pays because they happen to be in the area. Maybe if blowing skill checks had major consequences for the person that blew them more survivors would actually learn to hit skill checks consistently.

  • The recent updates to Blight and Billy have resulted in a lot of very similar matches for me. If you get paired with even one survivor that is new, goofing off, or just not good against one of them it's nearly impossible to win. Get paired with more than one and the match was over before it began.

  • I know not everyone agrees on this topic but as a survivor main there are times I intentionally die on the first hook, or at least try. Was in a match just a little bit ago where I was the first survivor chased. I gave the killer a decent run. During that time none of the other 3 survivors touched a gen, a totem, or anything. One of the others actually ran around behind the killer while he was chasing me. When the killer finally took me down that survivor ran away.

You better believe in that situation I am going to very intentionally try to die on the first hook, and it's the exact reason I wouldn't want to see there be any sort of punitive action for it. There are far too many matches where I get paired with survivors that simply aren't playing to actually escape. That's their choice, but I'm glad I have the choice to intentionally die on the first hook and move on to the next match where hopefully I'll find myself paired with people that are at least trying to escape.

  • Therein lies the reason it's impossible to give this game balance. There's such a huge difference between a 4 person SWF team and solo survivor that any attempt at balance is going to leave one group at a disadvantage. Make killers only strong enough to compete with solo survivors and they are at a distinct disadvantage against SWF teams. Make killers strong enough to compete with SWF teams and solo survivors are are a distinct disadvantage.

The latest changes to Billy are a perfect example. As a survivor main I've played in matches against the new Billy both as SWF and solo. The SWF matches have been very competitive and lots of fun. The majority of the solo matches haven't even been a contest. Put Billy up against solo survivors and he's pretty much guaranteed a win before the match starts.

  • The first thing I would say is there are two types of stealth players. There are those that play selfish and those that don't. It has been my experience I am much more likely to escape as a survivor if I get paired with teammates with different styles of play unless one of those is the selfish stealth player that is just waiting for everyone else to die.

While the survivor side of DBD is designed to be a team game it would be a misnomer to say it is not also an individual game. Nearly everyone plays with a certain degree of selfishness. I won't even attempt to say I don't play with a certain degree of selfishness, and anyone that has played this game for any length of time as a survivor knows if you don't come in with a 4 man SWF team the chances of getting paired with survivors that will either intentionally sandbag the rest of their team the whole game or just play horrible are greater than the chances of getting paired with a truly good team. In other words I'm not going to play a completely selfish loadout, but I'm also not going to play a 100% team based loadout when I know the other people on my team are more likely to screw me over than they are to work as a team to try to escape.

I play distortion nearly every match as a survivor not because I want to see others tunneled out, but because I know I am going to have more games where it's beneficial than not due to the fact that my chances of getting paired with a bad team are much greater than getting paired with a good team.

  • It's the same problem this game has always had. Balance. However, I don't think the issue with balance is between killer and survivors as much as it is just among survivors. All it takes is one bad or selfish survivor to make a match a guaranteed loss for all survivors. That goes double against a killer as powerful as Billy is now.

That's my biggest issue with this game. The matchmaking system is horrible. I don't know if it's impossible to create a good matchmaking system or bhvr just doesn't care about doing so, but as a survivor main the amount of fun I have and the chance I have to escape are directly proportional to the skill level of the survivors on my team.

That's been my experience so far with the new version of Billy. The matches where I've been paired with 3 other survivors with experience that are trying to win and the match is competitive. The matches where I get paired with even one bad survivor and this version of Billy is killer on zero challenge mode.

  • Survivor has become increasingly more miserable for me. I don't put the time into this game that so many others do.

That means when the game experiences a change to make things more balanced it's going to be a net negative for me because they aren't balancing for the person that plays just a few matches per week. They're balancing for the person that plays this game a lot. They're the people that are more likely to purchase add ons, outfits, etc.

I understand that's who bhvr is trying to appease with changes. So I live with the changes and make the best of it because I know someone like me isn't where they're making their money.

  • I would love to see something done with matchmaking. It's my biggest gripe about this game. As a survivor main the difference between a good game and a horrible game comes down to teammates.

Get paired with decent teammates and you'll have a fun game with at least a chance of escaping.

Get paired with bad teammates and it will be a bad game that was over before it even started.

I would happily wait a little longer in a lobby to get paired with survivors that have some experience and at least attempt to do objectives, but too often I get paired with people that are relative newbs and avoid doing gens like gens are the killer.

  • My thoughts on that are this:

It's amazing how so many people whether killer mains or survivor mains think anything that helps their side is needed and if you don't agree you're wrong and just need to learn to play better. Anything that hurts their side was unfair and if you don't agree you're wrong and just want an easy win.

Don't get me wrong. Not everyone does that. There are so many on these forums though whom NEVER think they just need to learn to play better or think their side just wants an easy win, but somehow the other side is always guilty of those things

In other words the most ridiculous thing on this forum is the cognitive dissonance that is always on display. I will admit I find it entertaining though.

  • @Gastongard said:

This wont change unless BHVR acknowledge that killer games should be more about hooks and not kills. If the game gives you 30-40k BP for tunnelling and doing 4-5 hooks and gives you 15-25k BP for doing 12hooks, then of course killers will choose the easy way, because the game rewards you for doing that. But its not the same for survivors, survivors that only do gens, sneak the killer, and almost dont do altruistic actions, but they do escape, then you will get 10-18k BP tops and maybe 1 pip.

So the game its unbalanced from the get go. This even happens with tomes, survivor challenges can throw a game, but for killer its the opposite, the objective is always do something that is already an objective in a common game. So this also incentives horrible teammates

    Yes. This.

As a survivor main I won't try to analyze points on the killer side. But as a survivor I can do a totem, or pull someone off the hook in a fraction of time that it takes to complete a generator. Yet I'll get roughly the same amount of points for any of those actions.

I firmly believe that's why you see so many survivors in solo queue that will grief their teammates and ignore gens. As a survivor you can intentionally sandbag a teammate and be rewarded for it by pulling that same teammate off the hook. Whereas doing a gen will give the same reward for something that is less exciting and takes way more time.

In other words the way points are awarded on the survivor side makes selfish survivor play rewarding. So I'm not surprised to hear that the way killer points are awarded rewards tunneling and camping.

  • DS is the one perk that most people find very strong that has simply always been a negative for me. I've tried many times just because I constantly see people talking about how great it is.

Almost every single time I've used it it's led to being tunneled out of the game immediately. While other people obviously have much better luck than I do with it for me DS may as well be called the game over perk.

  • I wish I got paired with the survivors you see in your games. As a survivor main I'm rarely in a match where I don't see other survivors blow skill checks at least a couple times.

I would even go so far as to say in just my personal experience that missed skill checks are the most costly mistakes I see survivors make on a regular basis. Having to stop working a gen that would have otherwise been completed or not be able to finish healing someone can make a huge difference in the outcome of a match.

EDIT : Sorry to say but it's not fixed. First match same problem.

Would have been nice. Been disconnected once myself tonight

  • Here's the way I look at it. When I'm playing this game as a survivor I'm playing to escape. Period.

If someone else is not playing with the goal of escaping that's their right. However, that means they don't care that they're working against me and anyone else trying to escape.

So if people that aren't playing to escape have no problem basically sabotaging those of us that are then I have zero problem bailing on the first hook and not helping them with their objective either.

  • @OrangeBear said:

Yep i've had this issue for like 2 weeks. I've tried everything on my end including resetting my PC. They have not acknowledged it... this is very frustrating.

I agree. It would be frustrating enough if I was just being kicked out of matches. It makes the frustration all that much worse though when the game itself tells me it's the dedicated server and I still get penalties.

  • @Mooks said:

funnily enough I do get this error quite often as well - though without penalty whatsoever. Just had it twice, one at end of match, one after loading into the match directly..

Thanks for the response. It's frustrating to get matchmaking bans from BHVR for something that's their fault

  • @saintjimmy456 said:

A lot of Survivors aren't playing against Sadako correctly.

    That's my experience lately.

As a survivor main I concur with this completely. At least 75% of the time survivors are their own worst enemy. Survivors lose far more often because of their own mistakes than they do because of how well the killer played.

  • Someone mistakenly unplugged my router while I was in the middle of a match not too long ago. When I loaded back in it told me I had a 24 hour matchmaking ban. I thought that seemed weird since I never DC. I just rebooted my system. When everything loaded back up there was no ban. Not sure what caused the original penalty, but a reboot got rid of it for me.

Who said it was going to be easy? Also, I would play ranked if I wanted a challenge against top tier players otherwise, I'll play casual if the ranked matches are too much and by too much I mean "not fun anymore". Ranked and Unranked has worked for many many games why not this one?

It may not be easy. I'm just thinking there will be lots of people that would play casual because they would think it will be easier.

    in MMR Comment by satx3241
  • I like the idea of having two different modes in theory, but I can't see it working in practice. You would just end up with both survivors and killers that would constantly play casual mode with no intention of being casual because they would view it as an easy win.

    in MMR Comment by satx3241
  • It honestly seems to me that tunneling isn't necessarily a strategy most killers "choose" as much as one that survivors throw in their lap. I haven't been playing this game nearly as long as most on this forum, but from what I've seen tunneling is so effective because a high percentage of the time someone gets hooked another survivor is going to run up and pull them off the hook nearly immediately.

If the killer is barely 5 steps away and someone is going to go yank the hooked survivor down why wouldn't the killer turn around and go after a survivor that has already been hooked once. They didn't ask the other survivor to perform an unsafe hook rescue, but they aren't likely ignore their good fortune. They can eliminate a survivor quicker by going after the one that's already one hook down. Plus they can pretty much be guaranteed the survivor that played hero the first time is going to do it again. That means he has at least 2 survivors that aren't even attempting to do objectives.

Maybe that will change as I play this game more and get paired with higher rank survivors, but for now it seems to me tunneling isn't so much a killer strategy as a gift survivors willingly give to killers. It just always amazes me to see a survivor get mad a killer tunneled when they are the one to blame for it. It would be like going out to play basketball and giving the ball to opposite team every time you got it and then being mad they took it and scored.

  • 100% agree. That isn't to say that there aren't styles of play that I dislike.

I HATE playing against a killer that slugs the third survivor to get the 4k. For me personally it makes for a very boring match. However, I don't recall other players signing a contract when I bought the game saying they would never slug the 3rd survivor for the 4k when they go against me.

I LOATHE playing with other survivors that aren't playing to escape. Yet, they are under no obligation to change the way they play because I don't like it.

For me the bottom line is there are 3 styles of play that are not acceptable: Hacking, a killer and survivor working together, or survivors intentionally sabotaging the rest of the team even if they aren't necessarily working directly with the killer. Other than those things everyone gets to play how they want regardless of anyone else's personal feelings about it.

OH I HAD A MATCH EXACTLY LIKE THAT A FEW YEARS AGO BEFORE BASEKIT BT AND NEITHER OF THEM HAD BT

And what made me go from annoyed to angry is one of those buffoons decided to send me a xbox message insulting me because I was a claudette that escaped through hatch even though me and my friend were doing gens until those two got themselves out of the game which my friend decided the best play was to go for hatch and sacrificed himself people like that is why I hate survivors who decide to go for chases over doing the f ing objective

Yep. If other survivors want to play in a way that guarantees they aren't escaping that's their prerogative, but I'm not participating. I would rather try to knock out 5 gens by myself than do that. I'm still probably going to lose, but I'm going to lose trying to accomplish the supposed objective of being a survivor.

This should be the mindset to have but unfortunately a lot of survivor players want to be oh ho I want to be chased f the objective and my fellow survivors oh no i got down teice let me rage quit literally cannot play soloq anymore without having multiple of these types of players on the team

I completely understand. The matches that confound me the most are when 2 survivors basically take turns running up and taking each other off the hook the moment the killer gets someone on there. They both end up eliminated quickly and have done literally nothing but take turns getting hooked. The best ones though are the ones that do that and then send angry messages to me after they are eliminated telling me how bad I play the game.

  • I play almost exclusively survivor. When I play I'm playing to escape. I'm going to do anything I can to accomplish that goal. If that means I knock out gens while others rush to unhook I will do it. If I escape I consider it a successful match whether I pipped up or not. I've had matches where I got a +2 on pip, but didn't escape and for me that is not a win. I'm more likely to be annoyed if I'm playing with other survivors who do not have escape as their primary objective.

However, that doesn't mean everyone else has to play with the same objective as me. I very much prefer being on a team with other survivors that prioritize escape, but my approval is not required for them to prioritize something else. I can assure you I don't care at all what anyone else thinks about the way I play and I don't expect anyone else to care about what I think of the way they play.

You can record from a ps4. Like, after the game if the settings are right.

Does the ps5 not do that?

It probably does. I may have to look it up.

  • I've run into similar situations a lot recently. Seen this one more than once. Killer slugs a survivor. That survivor keeps their head pointed in the direction of another survivor. No matter where the survivor being targeted goes the slugged survivor would keep their head pointed in their direction. I have observed after being taken out. Once the other 3 survivors are killed the killer picks this person up and gives them the hatch. Sometimes they even let them knock out a gen and drop some pallets on them.

I don't know how to send video of this from a PS5 or I would happily report all of these people as I think they should be banned.

  • Generally I figure another body for the killer to have to pay attention to is a good thing. I think it's funny how singularly focused they can be. I got stuck in a farming match the other day. One of the players quit early on. I don't particularly like farming matches either, but I figure I will just knock out gens and get out the door. I decided to remain injured because I had resilience equipped. Figured the speed boost would help me finish the gens quicker. The bot in the match followed me around and tried to heal me for a long time every time I paused for half a second. Would not stop. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing. He did help me with gens, but he wasn't giving up on healing me.

  • I have run into a lot of that stuff lately. Survivors that fast vault through windows for no reason when they can plainly see other survivors near doing gens is frequent. But the one I am seeing the most often is simply survivors working with killers. It's been way too common recently. I actually had a killer send me a gloating message after having one of the survivors that helped him with every kill. While I found their actions wrong I couldn't help but laugh at someone that actually gloats after winning by cheating. Having said that I personally think any survivor that is found to be working with a killer and any killer that is found working with a survivor should have their accounts banned immediately and permanently. There should be a zero tolerance policy for that. I don't care if they have thousands of hours invested in the game.
