It's actually if you wave your arms you are being camped
I've never understood this one...if the killer is looking at you and you're waving your arms to signal camping, the camping killer will go "Oh, he's signaling, let me hide and camp." If you're staying still to signal camping, the killer doesn't know if you're signaling or not, and waving your arms when he's (apparently) not around doesn't let the killer know that you're signaling.
It doesn't matter to me, because it's obviously not standard practice one way or another, but I've always found the "wave your arms if you're being camped" to seem backwards.
I usually use my waving to type in Morse Code, but I don't think most people speak it so it's not helpful. :(

I love this killer. He's got a great style and seems like a fun power, but best of all is he's upsetting so many problematic and toxic players. If he can get them to quit playing, he's immediately the hero of the game.

Thank you for the response I love this game...nobody want to be bullied.
I know this isn't the first of these types of posts but feel it needs to be said
Would part of your definition of bullying be a killer "shaking their head" at a survivor they just knocked down sprinting for a window?

Why would making the game more positive and less toxic be a bad thing...would that not make more people play because of good matchmaking which means more money for them and a better player base away from bullies. For the second point yeah I cant speak for all new players obviously just what happened to my friends but can you honestly say that any new player has fair matchmaking when playing as killer especially from about 6pm to 10pm?
I'm sorry, I want to be clear that I'm not saying your ideals are wrong.
To your specific point in this post, I agree that matchmaking is a mess. I've seen rank 15 killers matched with rank 1-8 survivors, and I've seen rank 10-ish players matched with a rank 1 killer. Assuming rank correlates to skill (which I've seen debated, but I don't know the inner workings), I don't think that's good. And I believe I'm on record as saying that the matchmaking is very unfair for players.

First what do I get from lying and second imagine how many new players go through this same scenario
First, you make your opinion seem more valid and popular and can draw financial loss potential into it, which could give hope that BHVR will be pressured into making changes that you'd agree with.
Second, I don't imagine most new players in groups of five get the game and play the same day at the same time and not at least try playing in a few matches together while learning the game. I would wager that situation has only happened to the five people you described.

The only counter I can think of is Detective's Hunch, Iron Will, Calm Spirit, and Wake Up on a Blendette. And even then, you're still likely #########. What are people supposed to do against this??
It'll just lengthen the time of the game as survivors cleanse more totems if these perks are used often enough. You have nothing helping find survivors quickly in game (Rancor probably isn't enough, but I might be wrong), or catching them if you do, and you have to hook them. It's already the case that there's often one person who goes unhooked because they're the stealth build character, so you'd likely see that increase, especially since the HUD shows who has been hooked and who hasn't.
I'd rather see that build any day than BBQ and Ruin, though, if my goal is to survive. But I like the idea of DBD being more about stealth, personally.
It'll be annoying because if all it's doing is making the game take longer, not making it more interesting though.
I think there's some fun to be had with No Way Out and Remember Me together, but I think you need two perks other than NoEd and Rancor.

Didn't expect you to actually bite, good.
This is a decent idea, one I've been in favour of for a while. Giving solo Comms and then balancing kill around it.
Emotes would be good, especially since we have 10 numbers they can be hotkeyed to.
I want it to be like this too, balanced for everyone
Real quick back-to-old-habits post though, I am against anything a developer controls that makes the PC substantially different from Console. So I wouldn't recommend the NumPad for emotes because a controller doesn't have one.

But if there were five of them and you, why wouldn't they do Kill Your Friends to learn the game? There's the perfect number and they're all playing at the same time. I'm just saying, this is a weird story.

Yeah, yeah, call me a basement dweller or say "get a life" or crap like that, but I want to play this game, and I want to have something adjacent to fun.
I like this game. It's the only game I own that's actually worth playing, or that I can talk about to anyone.
But I hate being bullied 24/7 by people who think that they're objectively better than me in every way. People who just want to make fun of me because it's easy. Because I'm not able to hurt them, regardless of how upset they make me.
I'm not going to buy Civ 6 just to play a game I don't want. I'm not going to waste the one hour of video game time I get per day playing with entitled pricks.
If they want to be toxic, I am going punish them as much as I can. If they want to piss me off, I promise you,

It's not just to make me happy, as such. The alternative is to give basic proximity chat and kindred basekit to allow for more communication, but buff killer some more. To allow for the gap between swf and killer and solo to lessen. It would be removing the edge of swf information spread and allowing them to balance according.
But yes, disabling mics probably isn't the best idea.
The condescending tone of a person with no views or realistic ideals just wishes is quite remarkably ironic. You haven't given anything to the table except saying that others suggestions wouldn't work. My question to you is, other than the suggestion I've displayed above, how would you balance swf.
All I've seen of you is going against others points (not just in this post, I've checked the others ) and you are ill informed in most things you try and comment on, as is shown by your brief comments that are vague and bring nothing to a discussion.
So please, if you don't hold a position of your own, don't try and attack others for theirs with condescending tones. It's just downright rude.
"My question to you is, other than the suggestion I've displayed above, how would you balance swf."
Well, I'm unconvinced that SWF is specifically unbalanced, but admittedly, the game is way more fun SWF than Solo on the survivor side. So spitballing ideas (which is pointless because it will just lead to responses about why they won't work, because I know they won't work, because I'm not a DBD game designer, but I guess I need to post to avoid accusations like this)...
I'm coming at this purely from addressing the issue of "A killer who can easily beat solo players usually loses to SWF, which is unbalanced." Not worrying about anything else like theming right now.
One solution is add voice communication built into the game for those who want to use it with strangers. Additional emotes even would help beyond "point" and "come here" could work as well, though at a certain point that penalizes console players even more than they're currently penalized, so you're probably limited to four emotes.
More creatively, let the survivors not just be different skins of each other. Give them unique powers like the killer has so that roles are more obvious to a team. Let Claudette be really good at healing that no other survivor can replicate so that when solo players queue, they can recognize that their team already has a healer. Immediately upon joining a player can see how the team fits together, even without chatting.
Perks could be far more interesting, and bundle information along with an ability. Perks could exist to share that information as well. Kindred is one of those weird perks that's really good, but it's best when the one with it doesn't get to play the game (is hooked). That's just weird for solo play. Let kindred or an ability like it work for everyone much easier.
And while we're at it, let survivors see what perks each person is bringing (or couple this with the "make survivors roles unique" above). And not just with pictures. There are too many pictures that limit all but diehard players from recognizing a perk. Use words or something to be clear so that players can say "Oh, I know that's Empathy, they're playing the healer." (This is a suggestion I think needs to happen for killers as well).
Once all that is done, solo play and SWFs becomes much more similar. From there, you'd have to see what problems the killer side faces. One big thing on the killer side that I think needs reworking is the perks as well, because in my experience, there are maybe ten or so perks that winning killers run, and that's far too few to be healthy for the game. I can't blame the Corrupt Intervention/Nurse's Calling/BBQ/Pop build, because it's undoubtedly "the best," but I would like to see more variety. But like I said, I'm limiting this to how to equalize SWF and Solo play, knowing that stopping SWF is impossible, so it's mainly how to buff solo play to SWF level. Beyond that, if that's too one sided, you'd need to look into how to get a killer to a SWF level, which is another post entirely.
If you'd like to read it, let me know. :)

Hi, sorry for making my first post rather negative but i thought i'd share this.
So just last night i was playing some survivor, we got Coldwind Farm and i brought a rainbow map with the crystal bead and one of the range addons, turns out the killer was afk so i decided to take out the totems just incase it was some incredibly sinister endgame plot. However, one totem was in a corner and a rank 4 Nea found me cleansing the totem, trapped me in and refused to leave until i gave her my item, she had two afk crows while waiting and was constantly pointing at me.
Once i gave her my item she left and the last gen popped so i went to the exit gate and left, i reported the player after the game but unfortunately i didn't record the match.
Once again sorry for making my first post negative but i just thought i'd share it. Has anyone else had a similar experience with a player?
I am genuinely sorry that happened to you, losing rare items isn't fun. On the positive side, since Add-ons are lost anyway, the only thing you lost is the rainbow map itself.
...but from an outside point of view, that is so funny. Just pointing and standing still, completely silent, until you give them your item. I wish there was video of that.

So you seriously think that Survivors would stay still for at least one minute so that the Killer cannot hit them? Despite the fact that they are doing nothing even if the Killer is not nearby? And when they are nearby, they have ~60 seconds to find and hit the Survivor, who is doing nothing?
At this point I dont know anymore, lol.
Yeah, the survivors could take the game hostage if the killer couldn't hurt them (and from what I can tell removing collision with characters is the same as whether they can take damage or not).

I'm sorry, I know I'm going to get harassed and dogpiled on over this, but almost every single game I play now a days ends up with the killer camping in some extent or another. I can not stand it any more. I get enough time to play 3 matches with my friends a day and every single match ends up with a camper.
I know it is a 'viable strategy' but they are boring matches, frustrating matches, and not fun. They are not rewarding, you get no blood points if you get camped.
Me and my two friends brought bloodyparty streamers each, so 3 of them, get camped. Match ends with all of us getting undfer 20k blood points due to it, which yielded less then a match w/o streamers would have yielded.
The devs need to ######### do something about this.
The 'if the killer is nearby the hook they lose points' does not work, it does nothing to mitigate the frustration this style of gameplay causes.
Yeah yeah, I know, I know qq git gud, but its unfun matches that make players not want to play, causes loss of players, and causes the horendous wait times for matchs that we see.
The game is poorly designed, and if one side or another wants to make the match not fun, that's a thing that can happen, far too easily.
That's part of why the community of players is in such a sorry state.
The devs seem to find things like this funny as well, and a lot of the players of the game are in it "for the memes."
But were you talking to your friends when you all brought those offerings? Because if you're being camped, the best way to counter it is to stay alive as long as possible and get gens done fast. One of you dies, but if two or three of you get out you can laugh at the killer for losing the game. That's usually good for some fun.
Also, be careful about judging campers too quickly. I've had some that are just as frustrated with the game, and just want one kill to feel better.

You can actually. The only thing you can't physically disable is the microphone or base software. However you can just not let it run if social media is active on either the browser. Or you can mute the microphone , something that games can do. And if they refuse, don't let them play.
Part of why I said "ethically."
But good luck disabling Discord, Skype, Zoom, Facebook phone calls, Windows Live, Google talk, shared Twitch streams (btw, your coding probably shouldn't disable Twitch, since it's earned media for BHVR)...
And all of that can be easily ignored by simply owning a smartphone, so that's a lot of work and angry companies to make (checks notes) ilovedbd123 happy.

You remember how animations caused desync issues?
Well the foundations are written on poorly written and rushed code. It links things together that shouldn't affect each other, and is overall an ineffective way of writing code. This is why every patch comes out with loads of bugs. It's adding a piece of spaghetti to a bowl of it. It's all a mess. They are all tangled and messed up. Things that shouldn't effect each other Do. It sucks but that's how it is. Unless they rewrite all the code this is how it's going to be.
So due to poor coding and foundations, they have difficulty adding different features. For example, have you noticed very few new features have been added like totem and obsession, because it takes a long time to write a code that would work.
To create the code that would stop discord or any social media from functioning when using the app (they could still use a different device to get over this), they would have to add something completely new, and therefore can't do this.
Haha, yes, believe me, I agree that DBD is not very well made.
But I think you don't understand (maybe you do, you kind of get to it at the end), you cannot stop comms by coding. You can't (ethically speaking at least) program a game to disable a hundred other programs. Not to mention telephones exist.

You know what helps efficiency?
Communication.
If you get chased and find a totem, that totems dead if your in a swf. They call it out and someone goes and gets rid of it in case of devour.
And you can only communicate so much in emotes such as pointing. And that's if the survivor is willing to listen.
If you can communicate with them to direct who's closest to hook to save them, and the other two can stay on gens knowing the killer will go back and you can communicate other perks such as sloppy, bamboozle and other situational perks.
If they intended it to be in game, then they would've balanced for it. It's not supposed to be used, and due to poor foundations of coding they can't stop it. That's why it could be classed as cheating.
The issue is when survivors can make descriptive call outs to others who they aren't visible too, and can give lots of information to other people in the swf, whilst most killers are balanced to solo queue survivors, they can't keep up.
"If they intended it to be in game, then they would've balanced for it. It's not supposed to be used, and due to poor foundations of coding they can't stop it. That's why it could be classed as cheating."
Wait, hold on, I'm not saying that DBD doesn't have terrible coding, but what does that have to do with stopping SWF?

So you're using Steam and Twitch (each third party software) to gain a competitive advantage?
I do completely agree with your earlier post that the game should have voice communication built in, as it's impossible to balance without it.

You were rude first but here you go.
Its simple Dead hard when used out in the open to dodge a hit is totally fair if it works on you because it takes timing and skill to avoid that hit ,but when a survivor uses it to get distance to a pallet its unfair because you would've downed that survivor but they have a perk to get away and that just doesn't sit right with me.
360ing is so easy to counter that it only works on people who are frustrated or are new and don't know how to counter it stand there watch them spin around wake me up and you whack the #########
You can be rude if you'd like, all I ask is a good faith argument.
I'm afraid that you haven't explained why, let's say, dodging a chainsaw from Billy is not free, while Dead Hard is free. It seems to me that dodging a chainsaw is more free because doing so doesn't take a perk slot and doesn't cause exhaustion. But perhaps you're wiser than I am.
Now I think (but please tell me if this is not what you're saying) that your big problem is that Dead Hard lets you "gain distance," or you could say move faster. Is it worse than Sprint Burst?
-
@panernaners said:

dodging a chainsaw from a hillbilly, 360ing a killer, using dead hard to dodge a hit and not for distance, predicting a killer correctly. There are so many its ridiculous that you even say that.
Hold on, my boy, hold on...no need to get snippy if you're speaking in good faith! If you're operating in bad faith, well I guess there's no need to respond.
What is the difference between each of those and using Dead Hard? Why is using dead hard one way not free, but another way is free?
And for bonus points: what do you say to those who claim 360ing is not an intended or healthy mechanic, to the point that the devs (I hear) actually removed it from the game (at least for a bit)?

Since they are nerfing ds some people want dead hard next and I wanted to have serious discussion because a lot of people make that post then the comments all say something like "What next do you want them to remove all loops dirty killer main" because I think dead hard is really unhealthy for the game.
Think of a perk that lets a survivor waste a lot more of the killers time for no risk to the survivor. You were probably thinking of the first iteration of ds ,but the same exact logic can apply to dead hard. There are so many times as killer where I was about down someone and they dead hard to a pallet and now they get a free escape and I am closer to losing the game. Perks shouldn't be allowed to do this and the devs agree with that and that's why ds is getting changed or was changed in the first place. Dead hard just doesn't feel fair when it is used that way so that's why they should rework the perk to be more fair for both sides.
Do you agree or disagree? let me know in the comments.
"...now they get a free escape and I am closer to losing the game. Perks shouldn't be allowed to do this."
Imagine being so entitled as to say perks shouldn't be allowed to make me lose the game.

Okay I'm gonna get a lot of hate for this but for the sake of the discussion topic I will admit that my swf group is on comms a lot. Not to bully the killer but to hangout and chat. Inevitably that leads to us giving each other pertinent information like shouting "Oh sh*t he's after me" or the occasional "I'm coming to save you"/"I got the save" as they come up in conversation. Hard to not talk about what you're doing right that second.
I will also admit this is cheating. I'm in no denial about that.
Personally I'd prefer it there was an unranked mode or something like that where me and my two friends could go to not mess with people who want to play the game as it was intended to be played but there isn't so when I want to play with friends that's where we end up.
That being said swf sweat squads suck. It's one thing to have a team actively cooperate against you and do well and another to have them seemingly being guided by the hand of God to counter everything you do so I get where this persons coming from. Its frustrating, unfair, and gets rid of any of the advantages killers get with information denial perks since they can just communicate everything that's going on. It also means they don't have to use perks or add-ons for extra information. Gives them the opportunity to use other perks that they'd otherwise not have room for if they wanted to use information gathering perks. So yeah its cheating and understandable to not want to play against those people who are also often rude, taunt the killer, and think that their own skill and not the massive advantage comms gives is the reason they destroyed the killer during the match. Plus it's kinda hard to tell if they're using comms till the game starts and you're penalized for leaving if you do realize that's the case mid game so you're often just stuck grinding through it.
"I will also admit this is cheating."

Quick question. Have you every actually played killer against a 4 SWF in red ranks? Have you ever played killer for more than a week? Solo queue for survivors could be a death sentence but a SWF that are communicating and actually working together is annoying as hell. I feel like survivors are allowed to bring the most OP thing and I'm a survivor main just turning to killer because I wanna understand the other side.
I honestly feel like survivors will complain if a killer brings something OP. But don't see it wrong if they bring a brand new part, key, or map. You complain about sweaty killers but it's one person against four. I can't ######### split myself into 3 and chase everyone. It takes a 3 minutes for the game to turn. If survivors play sweaty the killer should too. Cut the crap with this Survivor god mentality. Play killer. Understand BOTH sides and stop being rude. It's fRaGilE.
I play both survivor and killer to red ranks.* I wouldn't call either a main. Thank you for asking.
I don't believe I complained about anyone in this thread except the OP's attitude, because while "victim blaming" in Dead by Daylight isn't exactly a huge deal, letting that attitude go unchecked can have real world consequences.
Of course, I'm starting to think that noctis129 was right and that this is a troll topic.
ETA: Rather I should say I try to play them equally to red ranks. I don't stay there with both simultaneously.

You got to be joking... How am I being a jerk? Because I am making the game harder for you as a survivor? Sounds Fragile.
I don't tunnel or hook camp but even if I would is that me being a jerk because it makes the game sad for you? Sounds Fragile.
I use a build to counter bully squads like probably yourself... So please tell me how jerk I am and how fragile I am, because all I can read is a fragile survivor that can't bully a killer.
The bad faith post always comes after the poster realizes they were wrong. :)

SFW. Specifically, SWF on comms. As someone who enjoys playing Ghostface quite a lot (especially DH Ghostface), SWF ruins the killer experience for me. Survivors know that I'm coming before I've even fully left where I was, and by the time I get where I'm going another gen has gone off behind me.
I can deal with Brand New Parts. I can deal with the occasional multi-survivor hatch escape (as long as it's not all four). But I can't stand SWF players using 3rd party software to gain an advantage in a game that isn't balanced for that.
So, I'll be going back to checking Steam profiles before the start of every game and lobby dodging SWF. And if the queue times get too long, then I'll just quit again.
Because using 3rd party software that provides an in-game benefit over the opposition is the definition of cheating.

Have you ever played against 4 survs using the same cosmetic? Have you ever played against 4 toolboxes with gloves? Have you ever got an entity displeased because of a full SWF with a Skeleton key that chose the map? Are you really trying to make a point and say that those things arent toxic? And you know my friend you may be right, who I am to say anything? I am just a killer main.
Using the same cosmetic...who cares? Why is that a problem? Does it make the game harder for you? Sounds fragile.
Four toolboxes with gloves? Why is that a problem? Does it make the game harder for you? Sounds fragile.
SWF bring a key and map offering? Why is that a problem? Does it make the game harder for you? Sounds fragile.
All I'm hearing is, "Why does the opposing team try to make things harder for me?" And to be honest, the "same cosmetic" and "too many toolboxes" one is weak sauce. Having a key and planning to use it for everyone is much more difficult to deal with, but since you know it in advance, you can play for it.
But to say that bringing a key justifies being jerk? Sounds fragile.

Friends are fine. The ones having a laugh and probably know each other irl from the same country.
Strangers from a large group on steam based around dbd and dishing out information in an organised way with clear intentions isn't as easy to justify.

I started playing DBD because of the killers and Played with all of them... I started with the wraith, I loved the "fake" stealth but as I got to better and better ranks, survs just started getting more and more toxic, constant flash clicks, constant teabag, and constant sabosquads... So I had to adapt, started with the doctor and everything was fun again... you gonna body block to unhook? I will shock you to oblivion, gonna flash stun after a pallet? shock, gonna tried to save your teabagger friend? blast and hit. But once again I got to even higher ranks and I started getting constant SWF with map offerings and keys, SWFs with the same clothes, and once again I adapted, I got around playing Freddy, and now? I am dirty Infinite Freddy main with Mori in almost every match...
Before you downvote and judge me... Think... Are you creating the toxic killers that you complain about so much?
You may think that it is childish and toxic to the game and maybe you are right. But I just got tired of getting spammed with toxicity, I got tired.
Have yourself a good day, and may our paths never cross on the trials because you will be here complaining about me.
PistolaHextec: "Are you creating the toxic killers..."
Also PistolaHextec: "I'm sorry I hit you, but you made me do it!"
It sounds like you were the toxic one from the beginning.
And my goodness, using things in the game like cosmetics, keys, and map offerings is toxic? I've never seen such a fragile killer.

Everyone has fun in their own way. Everyone judges whats a win and what isn't.
Some people are competitive and others just want to play the game and have a laugh.
We can't possibly decide what is a win and what isn't. We can only make our own personal decision as to what counts as a win.
I totally get what you're saying, I just think this is such a funny POV for a game. I'm going to try it next time I'm playing poker. "A full house beats a pair? Well that's just, like, your opinion, man."

Hey guys,
so I just finished another game of DBD playing Pig on Swamp. I played normally, found the first survivor and went to hook him in the basement. Meanwhile I had 3 survivors following me with flashlights ( they brought 4) down into the cellar trying to blind me and bodyblock me. I downed 2 before they could get the unhook and then the last 2 after the unhook. So basically the game was over at that point.
Endgame chat was as u expected. Basically telling me I didnt understand the game and thats not how u are supposed to play, I should have left after the first hook etc.
And this discussion is basically happening for me every 5-6 matches nowadays. That survivors tell me I played that wrongly and should have done that differently and bla bla bla.
Now maybe I'm not understanding how this game is supposed to work but when I play survivor I'm actually happy when I do stupid plays and the killer uses that against me. Thats I feel the only way to improve at this game. Make plays that are not optimal or just plain dumb and learn by having that used against u. I feel theres a lot of situations where players, both survivors and killers do some stupid plays and are expecting u to act like u have 1 IQ point.
Like yeah u just got unhooked but that doesnt mean u can just finish a gen even though I'm literary right next to u as killer. Or yeah I anticipated what hook u will go to and saboed it, that is no reason to go batshit and facecamp me even though ur game went fine up to that point. And like the list of those things goes on and on. Just honestly try to see where ur mistake was and play it better next game.
Haha, they were trolling you from the beginning, friend.
