  • I think the caliber of survivors (and killers) is just getting better and better.

People memorize totem locations, ideal loops, best perks, and strategies for specific killers. There are more perks and add ons than ever.

In a word, experience, it separates the vets from the noobs.

  • @InfinyMage I enjoy playing him more than most killers; the challenge is map pressure and mobility. Good survivors won’t travel together and will use windows a lot. Catching two out in the open is rare but hilarious!

i hope they rework his add ons one day, they seem like an afterthought at the moment. The ones that speed up his rev time are my favorite. So many of them just do nothing.

  • @UlvenDagoth who cares, it’s not a secret he’s weak.

The gen across the map, the one in the rift room 2nd floor as a killer you have to go into the room up the stairs and across the top. Surv just drop down a hole next to the gen and have multiple halls to choose from.

i like to know what’s up with the double/triple pallet hallways.

The catwalks make you chase surv up there (or give up) then they got a quick vault that slows you down. Seen a lot of BL abused here. Reminds me of Haddonfield.

  • Just got ran around haddonfield, played 5 games prior to that and was 4K every game. Haddonfield they all got away.

They knew what they were doing, they used the Haddonfield offering, 3 of them had balanced landing and it was just a bunch of window jumping and running up stairs and vaulting. Rise and repeat.

Told them once this map gets reworked they would need to get a lot better at this game and they just freaked out.

    I'm rank 6.

  • Give the killers three friends that can spectate the match fly around little invisible eyes and report back to the killer:

    "he's going for your hex"

"two survivors on gen near shack"

  • @Sairek said it best:

"If killers for example, were allowed to queue up with 3 other friends who got to spectate around the map to see where the other survivors and could use third party communications to tell the killer where said survivors are, what they're doing, and what perks they're running, I'm pretty sure survivors would complain."

    @savevatznick said it 2nd best:

"You may tell me, Of course four good players should outweigh one good player, every time! What is the point of high ranks, then? So a single good killer gets turned into a toy for good survivors to play with? That's how it feels, most of the time. It feels like you're a toy for good survivors. You're a person who voluntarily got suckered into being Monkey in the Middle for 10 or so minutes, you're not even hoping for a 2k, just enough hooks that they don't laugh at you in postgame. It sucks queueing into a game knowing you're going to lose."

  • It might not be cheating per the devs but it is in no way balanced.

The argument of "yikes, you against friends playing together man?!" is a tad myopic.

Seems like all these friends are ranked 2, 3, 4, and 16. Strange how they get that rank 16 friend and strange how they know to make them queue up.

  • @Zagrid variety is great for us players, but something big from a developer stand-point is risky.

These are the mature profitable years for this niche game, you have most of the people that are ever going to play it consistently playing it already. It's not going to have some new golden era ever again.

They know the defection rates for new players, it has to be pretty high. Its a repetitive competitive game with a known toxic community.

Their goal now has to be = extract as much money from existing players as possible (in finance we call this ROI, return on investment). This means making skins that cost almost nothing but are sheer profit. It means designing new killers/survivors off of existing code from other ones. Steady as she goes, don't make waves.

Along the way you fix bugs, balance constantly, and always always give the promise of great amazing things on the horizon. Spread to other platforms so new pockets of people that might want to play this niche game can be tapped.

In honesty though, most developers just try their best to keep up releases with the whims of their main base of players.

  • @GrootDude it's because you're "teh pwn" dude, show us the pics. I know you got them; chainsawing 5 survivors at once, 32K BP like its yo jooooooooooob!

  • 2nd question, the scenario:

You're chasing the survivor, almost got them, you start your chainsaw rev which slows you down (for some reason but anyways) you activate, you spring forward closing in for the take down.....

They run through a pallet and drop it on your face, sorry brah, time to rev it up again and cut that pallet up (which is the same speed as just breaking it with your foot).

Didn't you know that an active chainsaw isn't as powerful as a freshly revved one? Especially against those pesky wooden pallets.

    GG

  • @GrootDude = self-appointed "leatherface is good with the right person playing him, like me" forum fanboi. Seems like you cut/paste that every thread LF is mentioned.

  • The "skillz" in this game are a bit arbitrary. After so long its just muscle memory. You pick up how to moonwalk, you know basically where the survivors are going to run to, you realize which perks are optimal for both sides.

Sometimes I make the right call and have great games and sometimes things fall a part and I play like hot garbage.

At the end of the day, LF still has to haul his little butt across the map and my hag is teleporting around sowing chaos, using ruin, and terrorizing folks.

  • @NoShinyPony I totally do! Throw in a Hex: Thrill of the hunt and they practically fall over themselves running away from the totem. nice easy kills.

  • I played leatherface and huntress to P3 and never got past rank 11.

Bought hag and used ruin .... instantly went to rank 6, almost 5 now....

    It matters.

  • I would chase the unhooked person, but not to hit but to sprinkle some fairy dust on them and shower them with hugs. Spend at least 60 secs there.

Then I would spent the next 3 minutes breaking 15 pallets as I slowly chased a P3 Claudette around. Don't forget your DS, balanced landing, sprint burst, and insta heal kids!

If I place them on the hook and know someone is really close by, I always try to run to the farthest corner of the map and stand in a corner and count to 10.

It's in the survivors guide, come on people, read much?!

  • Been using hex:ruin, hex: thrill of the hunt, hex: huntress lullaby, and hex: noed (would switch it for hex: haunted ground but dont have it)

This seems to mess with survivors a lot. They are looking for hex:ruin but thrill and lullaby adds more complexity into the game.

  • @Carpemortum @Rydog

I made the comments about my friends (rank 20’s) who quit and we’re matched with a rank 15 killer.

Those numbers, 15 vs. 20 don’t paint the true picture. Neither does the P3.

It’s like this, rank reset just happened so the killer was probably rank 12. As hillybilly he had BBQ&C and hex:ruin, forget the other perks. And he was P3.

This let me know this wasn’t some novice, the killer had played a lot, new the maps cold, had leveled up other killers to get their perks, and had spent hours leveling up billy three times.

someone of that caliber should not be put with someone with less than 10 hours inn game, unless your objective is to drive most people away.

  • Had three friends that got me into the game, played about 20-30 hours and quit. They said:

    1) being tunneled repeatedly in multiple back to back games was dumb.

    2) rankings seem broken, getting games with P3 rank 15 killers at survivor rank 19 seems like a huge gap.

    3) grinding for perks to have optimal build was tedious.

my beef is surv queue is measured in seconds, as killer i’ll wait 5 minutes on average.

  • Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in awhile.

i had a match where I was leatherface and I just found people without bbq left and right, won every mind game and ended chases quit. Killed all 4 without camping, closed the hatch. They called me god tier, it was simply a really fortunate game.

  • @ClogWench it’s not about downing survivors with their power but rather about the strength or perceived strength of the power. Also the ability to use that power efficiently and in more situations either makes them m1 or not.

i.e. Nurse can use her power anytime to counter most survivor escape tactics without much drawback, it also gives great mobility. Same for spirit.

Trapper requires you to get the trap, place it, not step in it yourself (drawback of the power) and then the survivor has to step in it.

same for leatherface, it’s an instant down but you can’t touch other terrain (drawback) and you have to get right on the survivor to use it. Promotes camping of hooks.

    make sense?

  • @GrootDude yes, your punishment is you are not getting a down, your second punishment is you lose your most valuable in game commodity, time.

should Ghostface get stunned for not landing an exposed hit? Maybe just a 2 sec one not 5 seconds ?

should huntress get stunned for missing a hatchet?

if nurse’s blink would be illegal or off the map does she lose the charge?

maybe the clowns vials should hinder him if he goes into it? Or maybe if he just misses since he failed.

my point is any power that punishes you for using it dilutes the killer down to m1 low tier status. Trapper is another example.

  • @GrootDude I get the chainsaw takes practice, I am P3 with him and decent with it.

It is a power that punishes you for failure; like huntress getting stunned for missing a hatchet. Hit boxes on terrain are .... complicated in this game.

not being able to pre-rev at a pallet needs looked at. If you rev you slow down, if you slow down smart survivors just loop you around again.

  • I managed to get 1-2 multiple downs not on the hook since writing this but honesty they were not playing attention while healing and should have seen me coming.

windows end a chainsaw for LF, it would be cool if he could bust through the window (making it a door) on a few spots on each map if he’s in a chainsaw swing.

also, after looking over his add ones man there really are only like 3-4 okay ones. I usually pick ones that reduce my rev time and/or cool down and that’s it.

the ones that reduce noise are silly as is the one that doesn’t make the surv dying and the one that reduces tantrum duration.

  • If you don't enjoy being hazed and tormented then maybe online games are not for you! <sarcasm>

One year later "News: DbD playerbase is 95% gone, remaining toxic players wonder where everyone went!"

  • In before "get gud" or folks justifying how some tier 3 killer is good "in the right hands" or how "smart play" can beat tryhard swf with comms every time.

  • I think he said you only tantrum of you miss a pallet or survivor?

  • Well when I created this post I wanted to have a nice discussion on the topic. I don't think his primary ability needs completely tossed but there are some revamps that are needed.

Whomever said that the chainsaw rev needs looked at is SPOT ON. You slow down when you rev, any smart survivor at a pallet will just loop you again. Because of this you really cant start your rev until the pallet has been dropped, this process takes about as long as just breaking the thing.

Changes I want to see with LF: chainsaw rev does not slow you down, also if you are actively swinging the saw trying to hit someone it should cut right through pallets that are down or being dropped on you. This second thing here is the equivalent of having the "spirit fury" perk at all time but it's a nice enhancement without making him OP. I think this would bring him up to mid-tier killer.

His add ons are almost an afterthought with precious few of them actually doing much.

His power is punishing if you hit anything as well. Trying to think what other killer's power actively punishes you with a 5 sec delay?

  • Disagree, all the top killers have one thing in common .... mobility/map pressure. I am talking about nurse, spirit, billy, and maybe hag.

Heck even look at the rework they did to freddy, the ability to jump to a generator. Travel time across these big maps is the bane of the T3 killers plain and simple.

Bubba's chainsaw is only good for downing the occasional survivor. If you have ever downed two survivors at one time that were not going for the hook save its a christmas miracle.

Pallet break speed with chainsaw is slow too, I would say its no faster than just breaking it the normal way.

  • I'm a new rank 12 killer. Just played a match against a 13, another 13, a 2 and a 4. Totally balanced! The rank 2 and 4 just played with me like I was irrelevant.

Going to go work on "getting gud" now....

  • It will never happen but if the survivor pressed crouch more than twice within 2 seconds within 30m of the exit gate they are automatically sacrificed. Would be funny.

  • @birdmanowo They need to come up with something, like an average minus 2 or something. Someone scared off by a rank 18 doctor sounds like they just didn't have the heart to play this game.

  • What do people think about:

    1) penalizing quitters with a 5 minute cool down before they can search for a lobby?

    2) Having player stats above their head in lobby, like # of DC's last 50 games, hours played, etc?

    3) Ranking system that if your buddy is rank 18 and you and your friends are 2, 4, and 7 you get a rank 2-5 killer?

  • Just played a match at rank 12 against a 19, 4, 5, and 7. Why not pair SWF games against the lowest ranked player?

  • A small minor change I would like to see in the game is if a killer has someone and is at the hook they are able to hook them no mater if another survivor is blocking.

  • Just seems like there should be queue with SWF or perhaps give the killer an edge based on how many in the group are queued together. Whether that is more perks as well or something I don't know.

I just know I'm solo as killer and don't have the benefit of having 3 other people constantly triangulating my position and discussing strategy.
