It is unfortunately low on their priority list, which is why its so frustrating to see them waste so much time and effort on things that don't even pass a whiff test before PTBs, then get scrapped and amount to an unknown amount of time and resources wasted. Its very much an ounce of prevention kind of consideration, and since every new piece of content added makes the work involved just a bit more time consuming, its also an issue that gets less approachable the more it gets ignored.
I think that's a big reason why things take so long. They do preach about their work practices whenever given the opportunity and I do think it's a good thing, but with bad time management in addition to that nothing ever seems to get done.
-
It makes me think of when they got rid of Maurice just because. They might add the screams back in, but since he's licensed who knows. They did claim that things will be reverted if the outcry is loud enough.

So they balance based on kill rate then change things if it goes wrong. There's literally not a single video game in history with constant perfect balance. Things are always getting rebalanced. You're also cherry picking. There's plenty of examples of buffs going right.
The stats mean nothing, in my opinion.
Well your opinion is irrelevant. There's literally a dev telling you they target 60-65% kill rate.
Umm, I don't actually care.

More changes no one asked for. Thank u BHVR ☺️

Kill rate is one major factor they consider when balancing killers. It might always be the largest factor, but it still largely impacts their decision-making. They specifically mentioned in this video that they target a 60-65% kill rate.
And yet they also claim that they will pull things if they receive enough backlash. 2025 was the biggest example of that. The stats mean nothing, in my opinion.
-
Any time there's a game mode or event where the Killer feels at a disadvantage, they just have to resort to camping/tunneling/slugging. We see it consistently and it almost always bails them out of any real challenge.

There is already hazzard on nostromo for the killer with the ice pipes, he gets slowed like by 50%.
Another hazzard can be counted like breakable walls when you break them as killer than can make some loops weaker but I not their big fan they cost you too much time for not that big advantage and on maps like dead dawng in main you must break them or you cant run chase in main if you killer doesnt have power to counter these windows like dracula, ghoul or wraith with action break/vault speed addons.
Those are for Killer. For Survivor I would expect much worse.

In the example I posted where all 4 survivors dc at the start, it could arguely be considered as nullified match depending on why they DCed. Though, that's an extreme case. The more common scenario is there's 1-2 survivors left and they all DC because they've already lost. In this scenario, it's just a matter of walking around to pick up the survivors or finishing off the 1 bot. Considering this as an escape has negative implications for balancing as discussed earlier:
The problem is inaccurate stats. As I said, realistically the killer could have killed all the bots if they were bothered. BHVR is probably also using the same inaccurate stats. If they're balancing with the assumption that killer abandon = escape, they're heavily underestimating the kill rate, which will lead to them overbuffing killers.
I don't know why we care so much about the stats. I don't think they've ever been particularly correct and even if they are we have to assume BHVR is making the right moves based on what they're telling us, which they've already claimed is not the most important factor when it comes to changes.

So getting tunneled means they're bad? lmao

It's probably what the glitch was, I'm assuming.

It's literally an anti-tunnel perk. How is the Survivor playing poorly? 😵

when? i have played since the game first came out and i have never come across anyone being banned for literally doing the objective lol
I guess you weren't playing in the middle of June last year then.
-
No offense, but I find it so baffling how many people want Survivor to have the most convoluted, unfun gameplay imaginable while also refusing to play against bots. I really don't get it.
-
There's a challenge that does this for you, so it's more than possible. But I don't see them doing it because it would hurt the hype for the game mode. Not that I agree with that logic.

you think they would auto ban players escaping instead of unhooking? or doing gens instead of healing? i really dont think so.
Yes. Players were getting auto-banned for doing gens and not healing. 😵
-
It would 100% be really miserable on Survivor, I feel. I don't believe any of the hazards would be very helpful toward regular play, but would probably help a lot with tunneling.
-
Why should it be a win? All 5 of you chose to forfeit the trial. It's just a nullified trial, which has an incredibly low impact on anything.

which proves another point i have been making for months…. its how we play that matters. Cant win via conventional means like SWF with comms? maybe its time to adapt and change the way we play in solo. If someone is doing ok in solo playing the way they usually play in SWF then great but my point of changing how we play is directed to the ones that struggle and then complain but refuse to change how they play.
The last time players made that many selfish plays, an entire playstyle was gutted and the game implemented an auto-ban. 😵 I really don't think you're arguing in your own best interest.
-
I think you underestimate how many people on the forum don't play the game.

hang on, i thought SWF doesnt make bad players good? You have just proven the very argument i have been making for months….SWF with comms have advantages and no amount of "Wheel" for solo will ever compare to that…comms is whats needed. So your answer is not to provide soloq with comms so they can handle the "cheese" like SWF could but to get rid of the cheese which would make SWF even stronger? Is this why SWF players struggle in solo? do they rely too much on comms and call outs to combat the "cheese"? My guess would be yes being as im a regular solo player and dont really have issues like this.
Because you don't play like most solos, which you've admitted.
-
Survivors have been goaded to get better at the game for years now and it seems like they have. Now it's your turn.
-
Steam charts seem to prove that most people prefer licensed characters across the board. But to be totally honest, even people that have been around for years like myself aren't that interested in the newer content either. I still default to (most of) the older characters and perks.

Sooo, are you suggesting that if a survivor has just been hooked and there's another survivor circling the hook in plain sight, willing to go for the unhook, the killer should just walk away and watch the unhook happen from across half the map?
I'm over-exaggerating a bit here, but the situation where a survivor is kind of close to the hook and the killer is "forced" to stay/be in the hook's proximity, are not non-existent at all. "forced" as in, has no actual intention to camp, but ignoring a survivor who's nearby is plain stupid, so they stay in the area for reasons that are unrelated to the presence of the hooked survivor nearby (for the killer at least).
Your suggestion punishes killers for being killers in the very possible scenarios when they are not there to camp. Suggesting punishing killers for other survivors' actions instead of giving an additional request for a better (and probably obligatory) tutorial is not even funny anymore.
The Survivor has been hooked. One state has been removed. If the Killer targets another Survivor in the area, they have engaged in a new chase with that second Survivor. Even if Killer stands at the hook and does nothing, the Survivor on hook is not moving until the bar is filled. And even then, the unhooked Survivor is still susceptible to being tunneled after the fact.
If my proposal were to go through, the unhooked Survivor wouldn't be guaranteed any escape. It only decides that the person at the mercy of both the Killer and their teammates is the least punished, as they should be. A perceived imbalance toward a Killer who refuses to let go of a hook after it has already happened is just that—perceived.

It's designed to be killer sided. And i think the fact that everyone agrees that levelling the playing field requires 4 people on comms (which aren't even a part of the base game) with coordinating perks, in order to beat out 1 person playing alone (and even then, it's not a guarantee), shows that killer is successfully the stronger role as designed.
Exactly this. Honestly, boiling it down to SWF is even misleading because it requires a group that's more than just a couple of friends horsing around. And realistically, anyone that cracked should be difficult to go against.

Wouldn't surprise me either to be honest. I just find it oddly convenient that the most marketable option is first and two of the other options are hidden from view by default. Especially when The Killer page has three portraits side by side without the need for any scrolling. They definitely could've fit all four into view at once or at least told us that there were more if we scrolled.
Even if the poll was designed better, I still think she'd be the most popular pick but it'd be at least nice to give the others a fair chance lol
For real. It's almost been 3 years since they've released an original Survivor that wasn't a girl too. 😵

@OnryosTapeRentals said:
They should fix the page and redo the vote. Having two of the options hidden from view and not telling us they are there is going to massively skew the results. Both myself and my duo thought there were only two options and after seeing all four of them we'd both have voted differently.
As it stands right now it's basically rigged so that option 1 will win, which a small part of me thinks might be intentional tbh.
Honestly given how the polls have coincided with releases in the past, I wouldn't be very surprised if the decision has already been made and the poll is just the illusion of choice. 😭
-
Without the bug reports on the forum anymore, it can effectively be cast off. The mods have the ability to "pass things along" but they also historically have a habit of excessively purging people from here so they don't even get the opportunity to share their feedback to begin with. Truly, look through any thread posted in the past and you'll find the majority of posters in that thread are no longer here. That's not to comment on why those decisions were made, but it does paint the picture that this forum has never been a top priority and now it has seemingly no reason to exist anymore. Hence why it feels like a ghost town.
-
I caught a thread being pulled a while back asking for a new original male Survivor since we've gone without one since Gabriel almost 3 years ago. Which honestly says a lot to me about how BHVR as a company likely feels about that idea.
Personally I don't really play the girls much, so the chapter is likely to be another pass for me.

I play survivor more than I play killer. I think 40% escape rate is perfectly fair. I’m making this judgment based on almost 3,000 hours playing both sides. Escaping 40% of the time feels fine to me. 60% kill rate also feels fine to me.
I remember when average kill rates were lower, closer to 50%, and the game felt pretty miserable on the killer side unless you were playing S-tier killers with the sweatiest builds. Survivor queue times were super long because killer sucked to play. I was playing with a friend tonight and he, oddly enough, made a comment about how nice it is that survivor queue times during the evening when we play are only a few minutes instead of the 10-15 minutes that they used to be.Killer players need to feel like the game is fair too, because otherwise we just go back to the time of super long survivor queues. Most of the complaints on this forum about the game being “unfair” are coming from survivor players who don’t play killer at all or don’t play killer very much, certainly not enough to consistently go against skilled survivors.
This narrative holds no water, in my opinion. The game has never been in such a bad state for Killer as 6.1.0 was for Survivor, and that was only the start of it. Roughly 6 months ago, we had a patch that was doling out DC penalties and locking Survivors out of the game because they hopped on a gen too close to the Killer after being unhooked. That patch lasted for an entire week. A patch dedicated to improving the Survivor experience was pulled from the PTB after 2 days.
At what point do we just admit that the game was fine before, but that there were pain points for everyone? Otherwise we have to believe that anything outside of the 4k is unacceptable and that Killer is in a bad state as long as they have to focus on macro play or really have to be inconvenienced at all.
-
The experience doesn't only feel like it's gotten worse, it has gotten worse. At this point, it's very hard to argue that anything that could significantly improve the Survivor experience isn't off the table. BHVR is very keen on keeping the game exactly where it is. In fact, they seem proud of it. Pardon my attitude, but God forbid that Killer has to deal with getting less than the 4k every trial.

For so long that the meter maxes out?
-
I don't think any tips will help. Either they enjoy the game enough to stay or they don't and it's a hard game to get into even if you do like it. DBD for years now has felt like a game that actively rejects you as you try to play and most people feel that early on.

If I can go 2 trials without someone being camped/tunneled/slugged excessively. Otherwise I close the game.

If the survivor makes mistake to jump in before meter fills up, I don't think killer should be punished.
Punished for standing next to the hook and not engaging in gameplay? I think the feature being turned off in endgame is more than enough, in my opinion.

@Aven_Fallen said:
I mean, yeah, the Map is full of strong Pallets, but once one of those Pallets is gone, the area is mostly a deadzone. There is not much to work with outside of Pallets. Does that make the gameplay super boring for both sides? Yes. Does it make the map incredible unbalanced? Not really. It is just bad for Killer first and once the Pallet is broken, it is bad for Survivor.
If they would want to change that, they would need to heavily rework the Map, because they cannot just remove Pallets and then the Map is fine (I mean, they would probably just do that, given their trackrecord). They would need to remove safe Pallets and add Windows and unsafe Pallets to make the map less of an issue for Killer (while the God Pallet is up) or Survivor (when the God Pallet is broken). Would also make the gameplay more interesting.
But clearly not a high priority.
That's my concern too. Is that a rebalancing attempt would very likely take it from "frustrating for Killer" to "frustrating for Survivor" and that wouldn't solve any issues overall. The last thing we need is for another map to swoop in and take Haddonfield's place. At least as is, it sucks for both parties at a certain point.
-
Or they could remove that caveat from anti-fc. Or even change it so the hook timer pauses when a Survivor is close ala Comraderie. If the Killer has been standing there long enough to fill the bar, why are we going to reward them further by punishing Survivor?

Most are easily ignored, on Survivor at least. It's rare that you see more than 5 or so perks post-Felix being used in any given trial.

It would be the best thing to happen to the game.
The one caveat to anti tunnel that isn't actually hard, but they would need to do a soft MMR reset if they ever decide to actually do anything.
But genuinely, this one issue being meaningfully addressed for the first time ever would fix a lot.
Killers, despite their angry and loud insistence otherwise, would actually adapt to other play styles and actually try other strategies for once. And, assuming they MMR reset, it wouldn't drastically lower kill rates except for the few killers who might actually need help.
We can finally address the killers who need help individually.
And, most people who are dedicated to "tunnel life 4 ever" would realize that playing against opponents actually at your skill level means far less sweaty games, and you'll still kill about 60% of the survivors. You'll just not be constantly boosted at the maximum of your personal skill all the time (which isn't necessarily max MMR).
You can actually have chill games and demonstrate all of that skill, game sense, and game knowledge by getting away from "the first thing you try at 0 hours being the only strategy you ever need for the next 10,000 hours".
(Edit: forgot the best part: that when you actually give more than 1 survivor something to do they aren't on gens. So discovering map pressure would also reduce "gen rushing" by simply not leaving survivors alone and then being shocked that they are doing gens instead of totems and chests)
Unfortunately, BHVR appears to only make changes based on being loud, regardless of how good those changes would be for the game, or how wrong those people are that they think they can't adapt, but would actually be just fine in the long run.
So the devs will never actually fix this issue, no matter how beneficial it would actually be for the game.
It's one of those things where Survivor has to continue to adapt to the worst changes being made to the game and they do. That's partially why slowdowns, basekit or otherwise, never work forever. But there's an insistence that that is how it's supposed to be—the weaker role should adapt to macro play with the highest amount of responsibility. It's totally ass-backwards. I agree that finally addressing these issues after a decade is certainly much better than continuing to do nothing at all.
-
Why should DBD operate like Pretty Pretty Princess? The random nature means it's random. Sometimes you're going to be disadvantaged.

difference is no matter what happens there is always a way for the survivor to escape, thats the point to the hatch so no reason to give up other than laziness….
Now turn around and apply that to the Killer. No matter what happens, there's always a way for the Killer to win, so no reason to tunnel other than laziness.
That's precisely why I equate excessive camping/tunneling/slugging to giving up. You've given up on a fair trial and are solely focused on ruining the game for others. The only issue is that that is not only accepted but in many cases applauded, while giving up on Survivor has always been met with this frankly bizarre moral conundrum. As if you have to repent to the Entity for having the audacity to see the writing on the wall. 😵

Why would should listen to what people say? Well..Because actions are not the whole picture or what may come next.
They do go hand in hand, although I think this case is different because of how long it's gone on for. Often times, I think the narrative shifts toward us treating both BHVR and the game itself as if we're only about 4 years deep. But we're not. It's been a decade worth of these things and especially after what 2025 was proposed to be, it's all unacceptable. Actions matter most (in my opinion). If they can't deliver, then I'm not interested.
