  • It's this new perk called kindred. I rarely see anyone run this in solo q. No it should not be basekit. If survivors fail to run it, then basement bubba will get his 4k.

  • Sit 1: I have left my item for killers as like a "gg" or if it's obvious they let me escape. Or as a "I'm sorry the other survivors are #########". depends. Just a gesture of good will towards the killer. I'm on console so i can't chat after the match to say anything.

Sit 2: Idk, I'm just dumb sometimes and think why not?

Sit 3: It's a ritual to summon the swf gods into a solo q game

Sit 4: I can't say i've done this one. I would guess a tome challenge or new-ish survivors that don't understand the BP game yet.

  • I think it's BHVR way of trying to incentivize players to switch to killer at least 1 game each day to help manage que times.

  • camping/tunneling has always been a thing. i see the problem as the MMR on survivor side. if i play solo q and get a potato team i'm not going to escape. If this happens so many games in a row then my MMR keeps dropping and the cycle continues. I only raise my MMR when i play swf again. i honestly believe this game has so much technical debt that it couldn't handle actually measuring skill and incorporating those numbers into matchmaking. that is why we don't have SBMM by each killer or actual SBMM for survivor side. kills/escapes only is horrible.

  • It is sad b/c as soon as a new killer play style emerges, the devs add a new perk to kill it. hit & run became popular on M1 killers and the self care boon showed up. I see that in every game now whether i play surv or killer. I try to be competitive when i play killer but there isn't any point. I just play for a challenge or BP and call it a day.

I have noticed the queue time for survivor in the evenings have about doubled. This is whether i'm solo q or swf. So i would say yes, the killer population has dropped somewhat.

To be fair i'm sure it's up right now b/c of the artist release. It may only be temporary.

  • "She's a killer who requires some intelligence to go against, not just running around pallets."

You're 100% right that the artist requires more gameplay than "throw pallet & tbag". I enjoy the new killer powers and learning how to play against them. it's always rough at first until i work it out. Sadly i expect a nerf sometime in the next few weeks b/c most survivors don't want to change up their playstyle. The devs will prob cave b/c their "data" will say she's too strong.

  • 100% agree that the 3 month new content cycle is too much. They don't have the resources to put into QoL or general game enhancements and bug fixes. I'd be fine with a 6 month new content release and in between every 3 months they work on these updates.

  • I agree with Otz' video. The introduction of boon totems did mess up some killer play styles (most notably hit & run). But besides some minor tweaks to how those skills work i think it's ok & didn't ruin the meta too much. Which is the problem. Of all the perks introduced over the years, there are only about a half dozen that are used on either side which give you a chance to "win". Sure you can have fun with some meme builds but you won't "win" with those.

My main issue is map balance. Maps are not rebalanced often enough. Personally I'd rather have 3 month updates include rebalancing & general game updates instead of new chapters introduced. Move the new characters to a 6 month release. It's weird that as a killer I see maps with multiple god pallets or infinite loops then as survivor i get maps that have huge dead zones with a pallet which is completely unsafe, not even able to mind game. I understand it's hard to balance a map however if the dev team put more resources into improving the game outside of introducing new characters with perks the game could be in a healthier state overall.

  • Huntress, Nemesis, Blight, Pinhead. Not in that order but i do typically only see those 4.

  • I think the problem is the SBMM awards too many points for the escape on survivor side. So yeah, potatoes can escape b/c of hatch or just dumb luck after hiding all game and then they move up and screw the better players out of a what should be a good team. On the other side, if i'm on a solo Q team of crap players and die to a good killer, well it becomes a spiral.

And additionally the SBMM seems to match based on average scores sometimes. So you'll get one or two top players with 2-3 potatoes. And it's worse than the previous system b/c it is basically escape based match making not skill based.

  • This was predicted by any player that enjoys playing killer. Unbalanced maps, perk changes/additions that make gen defense impossible on almost all killers, balancing the game around casual play, and more, you'll only see top tier killers at higher ranks. And those killer players will be the best of the best. It reduces replay value from the game as a survivor b/c you don't see anything but meta perks on meta killers.

I swear survivors do this because they expect tunneling to be some type of illegal maneuver.

I've had quite a few games where someone instantly unhooks a survivor 1 second after I turn around. Then they either ditch the survivor they unhooked, or expect them to tank a hit with BT and for me to leave them alone after that, and in either case will complain about tunneling if I don't let the unhooked live.

But to anyone who actually does this and reads this, know that that hook was my map pressure to peel you off generators and you took it away instantly.

You also just removed 45 seconds of hook timer that I'd otherwise need to kill that person entirely. That 45 second hook time you wasted counteracts the time I'll waste eating a DS if they have it, and will also force you or others to save them or be a man down permanently, meaning less people on generators.

So unless you make yourself REALLY damn appealing, I'm tunneling the heck out of the person you just rescued while I'm still in the area.

    ---

Moral of the story: Unhook intelligently or don't unhook at all.

Tunneling is okay in my books, and I will do it if you give me the option.

Yup, i do not blame the killer for taking advantage of greedy/incompetent survivor plays. A good killer can easily turn this play into 2 down survivors for free hooks. High MMR doesn't do this unless it's EGC or there is coordination from the other 2 players for body blocks

  • This is what bhvr wants. Honestly bhvr doing this should be insulting to survivor mains b/c they think you're incompetent gamers to give so many advantages.

If you want bhvr to "fix" camping/tunneling then they need to return the killer to the power role at average level gameplay. Allow survivor mains to win by skill not by holding W or M1 through the match.

  • Honestly the maps and tiles need balancing first. Meta perks wouldn't be so meta if there wasn't a safe vault or god pallet every 15 meters.

  • Looks like a mistype, pretty sure you meant "buffed". I'd be shocked if BHVR nerfed this perk being so survivor sided based on the "data". I agree with others here that shadow step is way better. Honestly it shouldn't hide both your scratch marks and aura from the killer. That should be split into two boon totem perks.

  • The new patch results just solidify my belief that this game has too much technical debt and BHVR commits 99% of their resources into producing content and not enough into QA. With so much technical debt, each patch will have more game breaking bugs. But as always, if the players keep buying they won't change.

  • My frame rate drops do seems to have gotten better. The hit validation always goes against me whichever side i play. that tells me that it's hardware related not just ping.

  • @PalletsAndHooks said:

Hexes should outclass Blessed. Hexes should only be cleansed and should not be overwritten by Blessed. The Killer should have priority over dull bones, but alas, the devs didn't feel that way.

100% agree. killer hex totems should only be a cleanse option for survivors. idk if it does but hex perks that activate under certain conditions should overwrite bless totems too.

Is it really that bad on ps4? I have it on xbox series x and it does run smoother.

to be fair there was some improvements at the mid chapter update. But killers are hit or miss still. Frame rates will drop when survivors dead hard and unhook, gens pop, not to mention some killer powers cause it on activation. idk about you but i've noticed the hit rollback at pallets always go against me no matter which side lol my PS4 is hard wired in my router so i know it isn't my ping. must just be the hardware.

  • I've stopped purchasing even basic things like the rift pass. My last purchase was the RE chapter. As a PS4 player the game has had serious frame rate drop issues since then. I asked for a refund after a couple weeks without a fix but was denied. So no more spending for me until this is fixed on PS4

  • Holding forward is only ineffective if the other 3 aren't on gens. In other words, at low mmr games this doesn't work. If the killer takes that chase against average-high mmr, super effective strategy.

  • I feel you. I haven't played much killer except to complete challenges since RE launch. the balance is terrible once you hit above average skill. It didn't help that i play on ps4 which bhvr still hasn't fixed the frame rate drop issues. That makes killer 10x worse to play. i started playing back 4 blood. haven't jumped into pvp yet but the pve has been fun.

  • Honestly idk if getting kills from noed would harm novice killers anymore than the previous matchmaking system. As soon as i hit green rank as a killer i started being matched with red rank sweat squads and when the teams were solo they were miles above me in survivor skill vs my killer skill. noed is a 50/50 second chance perk anyway just like any hex perk. even when it pops survivors might see it right away and cleanse. to sum up this small rant, i understand your point. but i do feel it's about the same as the previous matchmaking when trying to compare new killers.

  • Killers must run some type of gen defense to have a chance of "winning". Whatever winning might mean to you. To the devs clearly winning is getting kills/escapes. Nothing else seems to matter based on the last Q&A stream. This explains why MMR killers employ all these tactics.

Now on the bright side, good or bad i guess, pin head power does create a secondary objective for the survivors to complete. If we don't solve the box we can't even do gen work for the duration. Personally i feel this is a good power for the game. the killer can run less gen defense perks than others and the survivors have a fair chance to prevent the chain event.

For the killer this means they are chasing one survivor, one survivor is going for the box, 2 survivors max are on a gen. The killer has a chance to keep multiple survivors occupied at the same time which slows gen progress. As a survivor ( I play majority survivor b/c on console the frame rate drops are so bad killer is broken), this gives me more opportunities for blood points. i only care to escape if i'm doing a challenge. other than that i'm in it for BP and to help others escape.

  • Cleary the best killer on console is the dev team. We still suffer from frame rate drops that got worse with the RE chapter.

  • There hasn't nearly been the attention given to the console issues. they've been worse since RE launch. It is hard to find bug reports or threads on it. When i do see a bug report i try to add my comments. But the responses from support is pretty generic. this is very disappointing as a console player who does enjoy the game and i want it to work properly.

  • And the killer point system is worse b/c they give diminishing returns on kills. To me this just confirms the devs consider 2 kills, 2 escape as their goal for a balanced match. I agree the emblem system was a better sbmm than putting so much weight on escapes/kills only.

  • I agree, this is a mixed bag of changes. If boon totems become meta as they are then i see killers dropping hex perks entirely. Prob change gameplay to slug fest as a way to slow down gen progress against above average teams. BHVR most likely will make minimal changes if any after PTB and instead opt to wait 6+ months to see how the changes perform live.

IMO the only changes boons need is they shouldn't be able to wipe a killer hex totem & if the killer stomps them out, it breaks the totem. Besides that i don't mind their addition to the game.

  • smh lol another tome challenge where they force the killer to throw the game for a chance to complete.

They are more concerned with selling cosmetics and DLC than fix this game. Could ps4 players file a class action in court. Anyone interested?

I'm down. I really wish Sony would take this issue up with BHVR. I had an online chat a couple times after RE trying to get a refund but no luck. They said they noted the problems but who knows.

  • These killer challenges basically mean you need to throw the games. But w/e, just turn chat off and get it done. This is how the company wants killers to play their game.

  • Each of those perks can be managed as the killer, even combined. The problem i see as killer is the poor map balancing. There are too many safe pallets that must be broken by the killer, or jungle gym into jungle gym tile combos (looking at you macmillen). This allows low skill survivors to tee bag their way out the gates (assuming the team is working on gens). Playing killer takes 10x more skill than survivor.

  • Oh and I'm looking forward to B4B too next month. I played the Beta and really enjoyed it. It isn't the same as DBD obviously but everything worked as advertised even on my 10 year old PS4.

  • We do deserve better as gamers/customers. Sadly nothing will change b/c most customers buy cosmetics no matter what. It's the same problem for all EA games too. I 100% agree we deserve better but until the community wakes up and stops spending the game companies won't change. They focus on pumping out new content instead of fixing current issues b/c their customers will buy.

  • PS4 is still busted. FPS drops when anyone is unhooked, gens are complete, any exhaustion perk activates. Killer side is 10x worse and really unplayable even with crossplay off. 2 months of this.......

  • Can't play killer with a real expectation to get more than 1k on ps4 due to all the freezing when exhaust perks activate. I've been on the bug report section and see this multiple times. the response is "please give logs" sure let's play dumb like no one knows this has been a thing for over 2 months now.

  • I would only b/c the RNG of totem spawns is bad. the perk should cover all totems & make all totems appear to be dull for the time frame.

  • PS4 and all exhaustion perks cause the game to stutter as a survivor. As killer it stutters every time a survivor uses one which means i lose track of them & lose chases. This has been an issue since RE launch which was temp fixed in mid-chapter release. But it's back with a vengeance. the frustration is real on console killer side. it doesn't seem BHVR cares enough about this problem to fix it. Based on their responses they are just hoping the next chapter update will fix it.

  • I'm on PS4 and as a survivor i've seen the invisible Demo. The red stain appears and terror radius works just fine. But until the Demo used a portal to travel I wasn't able to see him

  • This happens to me all the time on PS4 on the survivor side whenever an exhaustion perk activates. I experience a second or two of latency. Killer side too, whenever survivors activate an exhaust perk latency then they're gone b/c i lost them while the game was stuck.

  • Tbh season 3 of ST was the worst one yet. I'm not looking forward to 4 at all. With them taking 2 years to finish the 4th season they should've kept this license going at least for marketing purposes.

  • Yup, killer is not playable if you're playing to win (whatever that means to you in DBD). Can barely play to get some challenges done. Survivor is manageable but still rough. It's sad when a player vaults and as killer you lose 1-2 seconds in a freeze. not even a DH involved. RIP

  • I think this is one of DBD's biggest problems. There is no definite win condition for either side. Killer can 4K but down rank and get 10k BP. Killer can get zero kills but rank up and have 30k BPs. Survivor have equally weird situations on their side.

I am fine with the MMR calculations being a secret. It makes sense so players won't figure out how to abuse the match making. However I'm not confident the devs really have a solid answer for what a win condition is for the game.

So who knows. At the end of the day the joke is on us when we play ultra-competitively b/c winning is subjective in DBD.

  • I'm All Ears. Helps a lot in chase after a fast vault plus you can see survivors from far away when they Q&Q into a locker or over a vault.

  • At the least i hope I can dead hard properly again. I haven't even bothered with this perk since the release.

  • The report feature is totally useless b/c BHVR doesn't review them. When they do they demand video which means any console players are just sol b/c we can't submit video or type comments in the report. You would think at least for those platforms where they can provide the detail BHVR would review their internal DB logs of the match in question. But who knows what goes on. I get the impression they have like 2 people working that department part time. It isn't worth the resource investment to the devs no matter how horrible an entire block of the community is.

  • My boycott will end up being switching to back 4 blood in Oct 2021 when it launches. This recent failure of the RE chapter (which i was hyped to get) and BHVR response finally turned me off. Sad to see another game developer care more about launching content that isn't ready just to get $. Cyberpunk, Fallout 76, DBD. These companies decided to use launch as a beta test instead of getting it through proper QA. Here's hoping back 4 blood will be everything i remember from left 4 dead and more.

  • No instant down but I'm a fan of removing the heal factor when cleansing. Personally i feel that is her biggest downside.

  • B/c red rank survivors are try hards and as a killer matching against them you need to try harder. It's 4v1 and killer is way harder at that level if you want to stay in those ranks. Keep in mind too that normally as killer once you hit like rank 9 you start getting red rank survivor teams on the regular. so by the time these killers get into rank 1-4 they are crazy good.

  • Play Spirit all you want. She actually requires more skill to go against than the typical *throw pallet, tea bag* moves. She is a beatable killer. IMO the survivor community has just psyched themselves into this "Spirit has no counter, DC" mentality.
